round one: cotton ball vs big boy kalong

The Honduran White Bat (Ectophylla alba) is a small puff ball of a bat with white fur and yellow skin, making it one of only six species of bat that is naturally solid white in color. These fruit eaters are so specialized that they only eat one type of fig.

The Malaysian Flying Fox or Kalong (Pteropus vampyrus) is the classic flying fox with its fur of varying shades of brown and black wings. Despite the reference to vampires in its scientific name, this bat species only eats fruit and nectar (though it favors nectar if the choice is present). It is a pollinator of durian and coconut trees, and it is also known to eat the fruits of rambutan, fig, and langsat trees, as well as mangoes and bananas.

Last couple months have been really bad! That's why I disappeared. I'm sorry but also like, had much more important things to focus on.

But here's a year in review of art. One piece per month. Some were really hard to choose! I was really prolific this year, honestly feel quite good about it. The Bad Things have maybe hopefully finally calmed down so I may be able to return to doing art stuff for myself in the new year.

bat of the year 2023 round one

Painted Bat (Kerivoula picta) is a distinctive bat of southeast Asia with orange and black markings. Often referred to as the Halloween bat due to its coloration, this bat is believed to use its bright colors as camouflage as it blends in with dried leaves and flowers as it roosts.

Honduran White bat (Ectophylla alba) are also known as Caribbean White tent-making bat, and can be found in Central America. As their name suggests, they make tents out of leaves to roost in. Their bright yellow skin is of interest to researchers to help understand and combat macular degeneration in humans.

personal 2023 highlights!!!!:

started teaching myself how to make a video game!!!!!

tho it still needs work, i started learning different line art techniques

did a whole week of kuukou art and i’m pretty proud of the final products lol

learned to make a simple ice cream from scratch

sonic frontiers the final horizon changed the trajectory of my entire life

met mito youhei from slam dunk 🫶

rhyme anima s2 depicted kuukou in a way that didn’t fill me with dread every week lmao

hypstage may have ended but it gave us one of the best lives this year, stage bb won their championship, i got my ideal 2nd drb finals thru them, and they kept putting out banger after banger with each rep live they were so powerful 😔🙏

found a goal to try and work on and started working full time hours to achieve it ✌️

Not to dwell on this too much longer but I cannot fucking believe that we conceptualized, organized, created, presold, produced, shipped, ran leftovers and shipped leftovers on a whole fanthology during the layout arrangement period of a different fanthology that I was assured would go to print in spring of last year. Holy shit.
