I don't know who needs to hear this*, but cooking doesn't destroy all antioxidants.
In fact, some antioxidants become more bio-avaliable after cooking.
Yes, antioxidants are lost to cooking water if you boil them and then drain off the water.
I suggest soup if you're really attached to boiling for some reason.
*actually I do, but I've already had enough arguments online today, and it's only 7am.

incredible to me that in the age of spending minimum $100 for groceries for one person every three weeks where i live, people are still online like "dairy is bad for you because it has a lot of calories". at this point im calculating calories per dollar at the grocery store and youre still stuck in "fat bad" mindset from 1980. you are an absurd person to me. laughable

bones im doing the math and a stellers jay cooked properly can feed like four cats. no wonder clan cats have so many rules about prey distribution birds are so full of nutrition you can just coast on it. bones i did the math and if they take down an eagle they could feed like a hundred cats oh god boar meat is so worth it isnt it

The average male boar is 440 pounds, which is 200 kilograms, 200,000 g x 5 = 1 million calories.
That will feed an entire Clan for months. All through the three months of winter. Boar meat is sososososo worth it, it's INSANE. ThunderClan should actually be The Fat Clan, these guys are partaking of the sweet fat of the hog and absolutely rolling in extra calories.
(This is actually why I draw a lot of my ThunderClan cats with bellies, like Lionblaze. This man finds himself in the path of food because his Clan has lots to offer lmao)

Ducks are a REALLY good target for Clans, also. Average mallard drake is 3.5 pounds, 1.5 kilos, 9,000 calories. One duck feeds the entire Clan for a day.
I will say though, EXTRA knowledge; remember that calories don't necessarily satiate hunger! A lot of factors do, but you can summarize them with weight in the context of cats. My cat's usually full around 85 grams, but I know some cats who can hoover a big can of food in a single sitting.
(long answer: protein, fiber, thickness, if you had a drink beforehand, eating slowly, etc. But we're talking about prey meat here)
So your stellar's jay example is usually about 100 to 120 grams (though since my guys are in England, they wouldn't encounter those), which would basically be a meal two cats share. If that's breakfast they'll have hit all their calories for the day, but they'll still feel hungry for lunch and dinner.

Not only do you get that boost from cooking the meat here, but the value is more evenly distributed through the whole dish, the weight of the broth languishes in the stomach to make you feel full, AND ALSO IT'S A CLEAN SOURCE OF HYDRATION. You BOILED the water and didn't even think about it. That 120g prey item is now nutrition for 3 cats, a whole meal for 6, plus an easy way to get more water into sick warriors who may not feel like eating.
Get yourself some mushrooms, a couple pieces of prey, whatever leftovers that would otherwise go to waste, and BAM you've got your whole Clan stuffed and happy, even if they didn't manage to hit the caloric minimum of the day.

my cousin might have given her 2 year old baby girl an eating disorder:)

#went to a baseball game for the first time in my life yesterday and it was actually really fun#saw cool plants at the conservatory#ate some very good vegan food#energy and overall wellbeing was in the absolute shitter today which was upsetting. bc i want to enjoy trip + spend time w family. but. ok#i guess it’s highlighting that i just have a lot to figure out in terms of … pacing? nutrition? discussing my ability levels w others?#i told my parents abt my health being increasingly poor etc (omitting the su*c*dality part)#but i don’t think they understand it at all#and it’s difficult to explain that i cannot do all the things i used to do#and that i’ve spent the past month basically bed-bound other than going to the gym and grocery store#pegasus speaks#idk i’m just sad about it#and achey and sick and i’m so bloated i look 6 months pregnant lol#i don’t want to be dealing with this and it sucks that i have to. that’s all#my face

the trouble with me, specifically, going to a con at this particular time, specifically, is that i cannot for the life of me tell if i feel like shit because of The Plague or because i have stressed based migraines and have both major surgery and the plague to be stressed about or because i over extended myself doing a big trip (during The Plague) or because i over extended myself doing a big trip (ten days before major surgery) or if i over extended myself doing a big trip (to a con, where i historically barely eat) or if i over extended myself doing a big trip (to a con, where i historically barely eat, while i am also currently on a liquid diet and cannot do my usual con thing of calorie bombs for dinner) or if--

#i know it sounds silly that im basically floored if i miss some measly vitamins but the last couple days it was so bad i couldnt#get off the couch#just lay and dozed on and off#but since i took them again and they've had time to kick in ive cleaned the flat and i still have enegery to do work#i should probs go get blood work done to officially see whats up but thats effort and spooky and this works#i also technically have qualifications in base level nutrition and i did a butt tone of research to find the best combo and type that works#im waffling again.. *sprays self in face with water* bad dog!

it always baffles me just how little the average person knows about muscle gain, weight gain and weight loss
#that tumblr post that goes like “gym muscles don't count i only like musvles built by mowing lawn” or something idk#like what? none of the shit that op mentioned builds muscle#you only build muscle by resistance training#cardio has zero resistance#also exercise doesn't make you lose weight#it's food that does#if you eat less calories than you burn you lose weight and vice versa#you can't really burn that many calories with exercise alone#i feel like basic nutrition and stuff should def be taught in schools

Started adding 40g extra protein to my diet a day and I've fallen asleep within an hour every night for almost a full week which I have never managed consistently my whole ass life
#being well rested makes me feel like I could fight god.#so much nutrition advice online is like 'it's basically impossible to not get enough protein so don't worry about it'#i think our household's combined issues with food texture (autism version)/allergies/eco concerns/budget make it pretty easy to miss.#and i think nutrition advice also assumes you're eating meat multiple meals a day. which uhhh I don't actually know many people who do that

Randomly thinking about Kotoko and food (so uh. Warning for possible ED stuff)
I like to think about her being the kinda person who really only sees food as sustenance. Who barely even tastes the flavor of her protein drink when she drinks it because of how numb she’s gotten to it. She could chug it all at once without a care if she really wanted to because the “experience” of eating means nothing anymore. (Even if she chugs it so fast it hurts).
She doesn’t go to restaurants because she can’t read the nutritional facts of each meal. Or if she does, she looked everything up online beforehand.
She would will and has stood in the middle of a store holding two brands of the same food in her hands comparing the nutritional facts, and then continues to buy that brand every time. However, every time she buys it she still checks to make sure they didn’t change the ingredients. And of course, flavor or texture or anything about it mean nothing. Even if she hates the flavor, she’ll eat it.
Just absolutely scarfing down that meal with dead inside miserable eyes. (Whenever she does eat, and not just taking supplements)

I think it’d be funny if Kotoko took Lucky to a conbini and let her pick out whatever she wanted as a snack, and when Lucky gets gummies or some shit Kotoko’s internally like “how inefficient 😐” but brushes it aside cuz yannow. The baby. And Kotoko of course doesn’t get anything for herself. But she kinda softens up about the gummies when seeing how happy Lucky is when eating them.
And then Lucky offers her one and she has to accept it because. The baby. <3.
But then Kotoko eats it so fast that she barely tasted it, and therefore has no response when Lucky asked if she liked it. Lucky’s like 😦 youre not supposed to eat it like that, eat this one more slowly. And she does! Yay she enjoys food for a moment!
