The worst part about reading in a genre where you have low expectations (in this case, Christian historical fiction) is that when a book impresses you, you have no idea if it's actually good or if you're just overly impressed because it was a fraction of a degree better than the usual garbage.

#basically lately anytime i read a christian fiction book that isn't romance-based i find myself surprised by the quality #i do think that some christian publishers are getting better #and trying to tell stories that dig deeper into real faith and messy issues #instead of making only vapid squeaky clean prayer-filled tropefests #but i'm not sure *how much* better #because anything above the low bar feels like great literature #the most recent is 'in a far-off land' by stephanie landsem #and let me tell you setting the prodigal son in 1930s hollywood is a genius concept #i have some issues with the history and the mystery #but the characters!#it has been a long time since i cried this hard over a book #several chapters of solid waterworks #(and i also have the issue of figuring out if it's actually that moving or if i'm just hormonal/sleep-deprived)#i keep thinking about this book but also i worry about recommending because what if it's actually terrible by normal book standards?#(also the author DOES NOT understand the seal of confession and i was SHOCKED to find that she's actually catholic)#but also looking at the reviews makes it clear that if most of christian fiction is vapid garbage it's these reviewers' fault #here you have something that's digging into sin and darkness and justice and mercy and these people are just #'how can it call itself christian fiction if it only mentions god at the end?'#are we reading the same book this WHOLE THING is about god! and humanity and our fallen nature and how this breaks relationships!#your pearl-clutching anytime someone tries to get even a tiny bit realistic is destroying this genre #i'm gonna run out of tags so i'll stop now

i played this game for? so many hours. its actually embarrassing how many hours i played today. its 3am. ok. goodnight

#12 hours........... ok.#as you can tell i was having fun #i took a break to watch the thing with my bf :) it was so scary we had so much fun!! we went in totally blind #neither of us had ever seen it before and we were way off base for what our guesses were lmao #all i knew was that? theres a dog. i thought maybe he'd have rabies... lmao... and he was like i think it's about a murder mystery??#very off base guesses but 10/10 movie would recommend its so fun. idk why this turned into a movie review #ANYWAYS datv is so much fun i had such a great time playing it today :D time for bed zzzzz #i was trying 2 play until i recruited emmrich and taash but im too tired zzzz my bed calls to me #ok now goodnight for real this time

Bruhmet Pasha- Dude, just CHILL.

While it is obviously impossible (YET) to outcompete Hurrem and Mahidevran at the "being your own worst enemy" game, HOT DAMN THIS MAN TRIES.

Besides being the biggest bigot in the palace (yet?) the guy is a constant source of fun at his own expenses because of a severe case of "just can't shut up."

One actually interesting thing about his character, btw, is how he reflects on Piri Pasha.

At this point, I'm convinced that the reason why Piri tolerates him constantly bad mouthing Ibrahim in his ears DURING THE FREAKING COUNCIL SESSIONS has to be that he actually shares his prejudice, and he's just too old, loyal, smart and attached to formality to act or talk on it, so basically letting Ahmet vent to him is an outlet.

Which makes it even more hilarious that Ahmet had NOT picked up on that and risked alienating the one person that tolerates his presence by mocking his son at the engagement party (btw lamest party ever, to the point that the Sultan himself was like "aight, this sucks, I'm changing party suckers").

I said this already, but the one sympathy factor he has is that it is unclear if Suleyman has yet picked up on his hate for Ibrahim, so it looks like he just gets bullied all the time for the wrong reasons.

Note, btw- Imho he would actually be the most handsome man on the cast (up to Episode 11 at least) on par with Matrakchi (bearded) if he didn't ruin it with his utter lack of class and constantly making himself the butt of the joke.

Also I got my essay exam back today. Full points!!! Which was a surprise bc my 4th essay was definitely lower quality than the other three (bc I rushed it), but still good enough to get full points!!!!

Makes me wonder what that other one I spied being a 1 was like 🤔🤔🤔 bro was NOT good at writing I guess.

#speculation nation #weird grading scale. each essay was rated 0 thru 3. 0 being Real Bad or just plain wrong.#1 being Okay. 2 being Good. and 3 being Excellent. according to what my professor explained.#and all the points for all 4 essays were totaled. so since i got 3s on all 4 i got 12/12 points.#but he also said it's not like percentage based for the grades. 3s earn As 2s earn Bs and 1s earn Cs. presumably.#so even if u got a 4/12 thats not failing. still not very good tho.#i realized when i was writing that it really has been a while since ive done a proper essay. im a techie not a literature student.#i do scientific reports so much more than fucking Essays.#i tried to dust off the old skills tho and i guess i did pretty good overall. tho i wonder. it feels like he was pretty lax in grading.#bc im being honest my last essay was Not Good in structure. i was rushing bigtime. i just wanted it done.#but i guess bc i answered all the questions and was generally good at diction (creative writing Does help with this)#it was still good enough to be a 3. which makes me So Curious how bad that person did to get a 1......#i only caught a peek when i was grabbing mine. couldnt look too in depth.#ALSO THO tuesday's presenter got a 7.6 As Opposed To my 8.6!!! professor gave them a 7 (as opposed to my 8)#which makes me feel a little better about how i did. (this scale out of 9 lol). bc like. i did better than them at least!!#felt a lil bad for today's presenter. she was clearly getting kind of frazzled. it rly is hard to present for an hour.#we write out critiques for every presentation. stuff we liked and stuff we didnt. unfortunately i had criticisms to give 😔#but i try to sandwich it with good things too. so it's not All bad things. i still feel bad critiquing them #but such is the review expectations. i try to at least be fair about it.#(to clarify. grades arent announced to the class. i just sit right up front near where he puts the papers and im Nosy lol)

Finished the Clear Color RG Sazabi i got at SD Comic Con, hes absolutely beautiful. The RG Sazabi is a great kit (even if the shoulders are a little funky, as ive heard other people say, and with my own experience) And the clear plastic is a *little* brittle, but otherwise the kit is fantastic, absolutely beautiful and being able to see the innerframe is fantastic

Queer film of the month #1: Boys don't cry

based on a true story which i didn't know until the credits. they also deadnamed brandon in the credits which is gross.

The movie felt insensitive and while it was made in the 1990s so i expected outdated language some of the language used was outdated even then and with the transphobia from the director this movie feels like a slap in the face to trans people :[
