So, I finally got to writing out some probably shitty HCs for that hero AU. I hope these are enjoyable!

- Vinnie has gecko-based powers; sticky fingers and feet, nocturnal vision, lower body temperature, etc. He got these abilities when he was a child and got a parasite by drinking out of a puddle. Even after years of tests, there's no sure answer as to why his body reacted this way, or as to why none of the symptoms went away after said parasite was removed. 

- Sunil's powers are mostly just his magic tricks like disappearing and reappearing, short distance teleportation, cool shit like that. He originally wanted to use his skills for entertainment but used them for heroics when he finally realized that he had the potential. He also has small premonitions that appear at random and leave him drained, paranoid and confused, because they rarely give him any solid warnings. These cause him to have major migraines and nausea. 

- They first met while both chasing the same villain(Pepper lmao), who ended up escaping due to Vinnie's impulsiveness. Sunil originally rejected the idea of partnering with Vinnie until Russell convinced him that their strengths and weaknesses would likely balance out and be beneficial

- Related to the last HC, Russell and Sunil work together. Russell is kind of like a manager for him who keeps tabs on stuff. 

- Vinnie is more of an impulsive, physical fighter, where Sunil is more careful and uses more mental tactics. Depending on the situation, this combination is either amazing or horrible 

- Vinnie wanted a super cool alias, but no matter how hard he tried to introduce new names, people just kept calling him “that one lizard dude.” That was until some kid online referred to him as Repto-Guy, and it stuck. Not as cool as Vinnie hoped for, but better than “oh, that guy”. 

- Sunil's hero name is Blue Phantom, even though it sounds a bit… evil to him. Russell was the one to actually come up with it, because “it works with your powers and it's cool and easy to remember! Trust me on this!” and like always, Russell was right

- It doesn't take very long for Sunil, Vinnie and Russell to all become a mini hero squad with Russell forming plans and Vinnie and Sunil actually acting them out. It works for them, but it's absolute chaos. 

- Because of his abilities, Vinnie's eyes are very reptile like, and seeing the way that they dilate and constrict for night vision can be very unsettling if you aren't ready for it. Sunil was, of course, not prepared for it and thought that he had confronted a demon 

- Sunil eventually starts having a ton of visions of Vinnie being injured or killed, so he starts being on high alert at all times and even starts snapping at Vinnie for being reckless at times. He feels incredibly guilty about being so harsh on him, but he's not about to let his partner die because of a thoughtless move

- Vinnie definitely tries to hit on Sunil but it's always at the worst times. Like they'll be fighting off guys that 100% intend to kill them, and in the middle of nowhere Vinnie's just like “y'know, you're kinda hot when you're fighting-” and Sunil never registers it because he's, you know, trying not to die 😭

- Bonus from the previous HC: they definitely all have communication devices, so Russell can hear all of what Vinnie says. And he'll just sit there, dropping his head into his hands and sighing as he hears these awful attempts at completely unsubtle flirting.

How does Casey feel about Dr. Carrick? We know from canon that Ethan was her medical hero and the impact his book had on her. How does she feel about Tobias in a professional way? Does she still see Ethan as her mentor, or does that change? (I don’t remember if it’s mentioned in canon if Tobias is equally famous or if he’s a published author)

OK, we don't know too much from canon, so I've made my own HC about Dr. Carrick's professional career/reputation. But to flesh it out, let's explore how I see Ethan because that plays in.

Based on canon, I see Ethan as a superstar doctor. Not well-known to the public at large, but he is within the medical community. He's akin to a child prodigy in medicine. Naveen saw that, and that's why he wanted him under his wing. He is well published, and his texts can be found in most medical schools. He is known in medical circles worldwide. (Is it realistic at his age? Fuck no. But we're basing this off of PB, and if they can be ridiculous, so can we. lol) With his credentials, his success, and handsome appearance, he could be a mini-celeb in Boston if he wanted to, but he has zero interest. (He does later when Kaycee convinces him that it will help their charitable endeavors, but that's for later.)

Tobias was a star, but not a superstar. He is published, but not as widely. He has not written text. But he is brilliant and considered a top doctor in his field. He is willing to take more risks, and as a result, he is more innovative (but also has some significant failures). He's known in medical circles, but not to the extent Ethan is. For years, this was a thorn in Tobias's side. He knows he is more successful than most physicians could ever hope to be, but it never feels like enough because he's still trying to catch his rival.

But, he was a mini-celeb in the Boston social scene. He is an extremely rich (he made his own money and comes from a very wealthy family) handsome doctor who could charm a doorknob into opening. He also loves a good party and wants to be seen where it's important to be seen. He definitely had a "Playboy Doctor" rep.

Casey had read some of his journal articles but wasn't familiar with his entire body of work. Once she was in Boston, she became more familiar with his name/work, but not to the point that she was like, "OMG, Dr. Carrick," when they met. Once they began texting, she Googled him and was like, "Holy shit, that's who he is." She was very impressed with him.

I'm not sure if I am going to have Tobias work on the DT yet (though I probably will). I may have him come to Edenbrook as an attending or a director who will consult with the DT on occasion. In either case, Casey is excited about working with him (they are dating by that time). They work very well together, but they do butt heads at times as Casey takes a more conservative approach (not as conservative as Ethan's, but more than Tobias.) This can lead to some heated exchanges, but they are not too common.

While she gets frustrated with his approaches at first, she also learns from them immensely and credits him with making her a better physician as well.

Manga Master List: Recommendations and My Personal Wish List

Below is every manga from my amazon wishlist I would recommend(as of February 11 2021) with a picture and a 3-5 sentence explanation of what the manga is about. Underneath will also be the number of volumes I have read, the number I own, and it’s status of ongoing or complete and how many volumes it has. This way you can decide for yourself if you think I have read enough of it to give an accurate recommendation.

This list only includes manga you can purchase (including digital purchases) from the wishlist. I decided that I would in fact include my personal amazon manga wishlist here and at the bottom for people to buy THEMSELVES a copy of any of these manga they would like. Keep in mind many of these won’t have volume 1 in the list but you should be able to get to the series page from the list. If a manga shows up on the amazon list that I did not include in this one that is because I have not read enough of them(or any of them) to recommend. Ok? Cool, enjoy the list!!

1. The Girl from the Other side is about a little girl living with a gentleman monster. It is a supernatural mystery with beautiful art.

2. Pumpkin Scissors is a military fantasy about a War Veteran named Randal Oland who joins the pumpkin scissors core to help with war relief and uncover the deep corruption of the government. It is similar in themes to FMA in the sense it appears to be based on a World War, and corruption of government but it more focused on the power of the noble houses in government. There is also a fun science element but it is not as in focus as in FMA. The two but are very very different overall tho. Only 5 volumes were distributed in physical English copies as the publishing company went bankrupt, all others are only available digitally. (I couldn’t get the manga vol. 1 cover to work so the picture above is a poster for the anime)

3. Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun is a slice of life about a bunch of highschoolers. Nozaki is the mangaka of a popular Shoujo manga who uses his personal experiences with friends to create his monthly comic series. It is a fun gender stereotype reversal manga with a large cast of both male and female characters (one could be HC as genderfluid but she’s still canonically female at this time) The manga is one of the easiest to read as the panels are mostly in straight down rectangles so the pages are extremely easy to follow and is very funny.

Status: Ongoing at 12 volumes

4. Yu-Gi-Oh! is well known to be about the card game yu-gi-oh, using magic and myths to further the story, HOWEVER, Yu-gi-oh! is the “Season 0″ of the series it is much darker than to be expected and there is no card game. The Yu-gi-oh most are familiar with is Yu-gi-oh Duelist (just found this out myself) and is the Yu-gi-oh you probably already know. There is no overarching plot to this mini series it is just Yugi fucking shit up playing games and destroying some bullies. I have yet to read any of Duelist as of the creation of this post therefore I cannot recommend it :/

5. The Way of the House Husband is about a former yakuza who gets married and flips his script. He becomes a house husband for his working wife and carries on doing chores and errands while still looking and acting scary unintentionally and getting himself in trouble. It is a slice of life comedy with some adult jokes but is over all extremely funny and pleasant to read.

Status: Ongoing at 7 volumes

6. Hikaru no Go is about a highschool boy who finds a haunted Go board. He meets the ghost who once was a prolific Go player. Together they work to become a world class Go champion meeting new people along the way. This series was cut short due to legal issues with a real Go player and therefore will remain unfinished but the story that is there is golden. It is still one of the most popular manga in Japan.

Status: Complete at 23 Volumes

7. Zatch Bell! This manga is about a teenager named Kiyo who gets sent a young boy with amnesia named Zatch Bell who turns out to be an alien called a momodo. Now the two must battle other momodo in order to understand what happened to Zatch and to make Zatch the new king. Along the way they make many friends and save both the momodo and human worlds. This one is difficult because it is a classic that did not do well in America so the volumes are expensive and the series is unfinished in English. You can only buy 27 of the volumes in English and a few of them are almost impossible to find, however it is well worth the money if you can afford it and it is available online.

8. Fullmetal Alchemist is a cult classic most have read it, watched the series, or heard of it at the very least. This is one of the most popular Manga of all time and for good reason. The manga is about 2 brothers Alphonse and Edward on a journey to return their bodies to normal after committing the taboo of human transmutation. The manga has themes of racism, government corruption and manipulation of the military. The versions on my wishlist are the special Fullmetal Editions so they will have a different price point and volume number than the regular volumes or the omnibuses’

9. Princess Jellyfish is about a young woman who is sort of an outcast otaku living with 5 other otaku women. She has a deep love for jellyfish as they remind her of her late mother. She meets a beautiful woman who turns out to be a male college student and slowly comes out of her shell making new friends and growing with old ones as well. This manga is very sweet and I really don’t know what else to say haha.

10. !!!HUGE TW FOR EATING DISORDERS!!! In Clothes Called Fat is a, oneshot, non romanticizing story of an office woman trying to lose weight and developing several eating disorders in the process. She goes through hardships in relationships and bullying as well. It has a bittersweet ending and should be read with caution but it is beautifully done. Please do not read this if you are under the age 16 at the very youngest there are NSFW moments as well as just generally not being a topic for younger audiences.

11. My LOVE Story!! Is an adorable Slice of Life shojo about a highschooler named Takeo Gouda, his girlfriend Yamato, and his best friend and hear throb Suna. This series is rather refreshing as the relationship starts pretty much immediately, the best friend is very supportive, and it is focused on Takeo’s personality over looks as he is often compared in manga to a gorilla or bear. It is a generally heart warming story with some emotional side plots. The ending is sort of sudden but it’s really enjoyable.

12. Soul Eater is pretty popular but if you don’t know what it is about it is about a Weapon named Soul and his Meister Maka. They attend a school that teaches them how to defeat people before they turn into Demons, saving the world in the process. Once a weapon eats 100 evil souls and a witches soul they can become the new death Scythe! That is the plot presented, and it of course goes off into a much more complicated storyline. It is super fun and engaging with a fascinating plot near the end.

13. D. Gray-Man is a little complicated. Similarly to Soul Eater D. Gray-Man is a story based around defeating people turned demon and the saving of the world through an organization, however the plot gets very complicated very quickly. The art is some of the most interesting and beautifully fun art I’ve come across and the characters are (so far as I’ve read) all amazing. The story has a lot of christian influence and is one you have to really keep up with to understand but I recommend it regardless!

14. One-Punch Man is also very popular and is about a man who becomes so strong he only needs to punch you once to completely annihilate you, and it greatly annoys him. This manga greatly touches on the themes of self worth as Saitama becomes a hero that no one seems to want. The fights are fun and engaging, tho at times can be difficult to read. The art is gorgeous, with some of the most heavily detailed work I have ever seen.

15. The Boy and The Beast is the manga adaptation of the movie by the same name. This is a bittersweet story about a boy who finds a family in the land of the beasts and the repercussions of this intermixing. It is sweet and sad and there’s not much else to say, but that it is a beautifully crafted story.

Read: 1 (but I’ve seen the movie and read the light novel)

16. MAR is not a manga I should be recommending as I genuinely don’t think I have read enough of the story to do so but I love it so much I’m going to anyway. MAR is a classic Isekai Shonen, a kid goes through a door into another world and has to fight a war to save it, there is a super fun magic system and some wonderful story building with genuinely enjoyable characters and battles. I am recommending this more based off the anime than the manga itself because it was one of my absolute favorites when I was younger, so take from that what you will! This manga has the same issue Zatch Bell does however, the series did not do amazingly so the volumes can be expensive!

King Dedede is a famous crime ring leader, and insists he’s not a villain, even though he is a criminal. He’s not good at not getting caught, and always has a security detail with him even though he’s strong

King Dedede’s guard most commobly consists of Bandana Dee and Waddle Doo

B. Dee and S. Dee fight often because of their opposing loyalties, even though Meta and Dedede are relatively courteous with each other

As a hero, Meta Knight is expected to apprehend Dedede, but more often than not he just visits and rants to unwind from his stressful life; the two of them bicker a good amount and refuse to admit that they’re friends

Kirby stumbled accidentally into Dedede’s base when he was a child and the guards (Waddle Dee and Doo) fought him to try to get him out but Kirby was just too strong XD

Kirby discovered Meta Knight because Meta went undercover before making his public hero debut

Kirby’s got multiple quirks, including super-strength, floating, and copy ability. Meta tells Kirby to keep copy ability on the down-low as a trump card for the most part.

Meta Knight has 2 quirks, both relating to his cape: his wings, and his dimensional control. He uses neither of them unless it’s an emergency, preferring to fight with his sword

My KNY HC’s:

Kirby is the youngest pillar, beating out Tokitou at age 12; though technically unofficially because Meta Knight takes his place at Pillar meetings (Meta is more responsible, but Kirby is stronger)

Kirby and Meta collectively hold the titles of Star Pillars, because they have their own breathing, different from the Breath of the Sun

The Star Warriors were formed by the people who came up with the Breath of the Stars, and their descendants basically continued the group, creating a chain of inheritance for the Star Pillar position

Meta Knight was the most recent Star Pillar, leading the group, but they went into battle against the Upper Moons

Meta was the sole survivor of this battle, and temporarily retired from the Corps to rest

Meta found Kirby in a forest nearby and they shared the common quality of loving the sky and the stars, so Meta decided to train the child, who turned out to be a prodigy and picked up the entire style in half a year, to Meta’s amazement

When Kirby started going on missions, Meta came partially out of retirement to travel with and oversee his apprentice

When they were put on missions with other demon slayers, they discovered that Kirby, after seeing sword forms once, could use them and derive new skills from them, but usually only temporarily before he forgot the style. Meta started calling this the Copy Ability.

Kirby gained renown and became known as the User of 100 Breaths, and defeated a Moon when he was 12, gaining the Pillar position

He couldn’t quite sit still during the meeting, so Meta Knight came out of retirement to take his place

Kirby’s haori is a bit unconventional because he designed it himself; it has a star on the back. Meta helped him make it and bought the materials; the Star Estate was pretty rich and belonged solely to him now.

That’s about it for both! I might draw some of these but I have several projects going on right now including commissions, KNY pokemon AU, KNY swap au, and normal gikabi, so don’t expect too much (^^;) School is also taking its toll on my time and energy after all

I was asked about this topic recently, and, being bored out of my mind, I felt inspired to use it as a starting point for a new series! I hope to share my current headcanons about the personality types of the Digimon Adventure universe’s main characters, according to different personality systems: astrology, Enneagram, MBTI... feel free to suggest any other typologies you’d like me to explore in the future.

In this first post, I’ll try to explain which of the Sun Sign personality archetypes I find more likely and interesting for each character. Consider this this an update of my previous headcanons, post-tri. (and post LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna).

1: DIGIMON ADVENTURE + ZODIAC SIGNS

Note: Every single headcanon is highly subjective and even I will probably change my mind about it. This is only a PROPOSAL.

Canon Clues 

Although there are no official birthdays for the characters, several Adventure materials have provided “goalposts” where we can fit some characters’ birthdays. I strive to make my HCs as canon-compliant as possible, so it’s important for me to take this info into account.

Miyako is stated to be a Gemini in 02.

The official synopsis of tri. Indicates that Taichi is 17 years old during the series, suggesting the has an April-June birthday.

Sure, you’re free to ignore this little nugget if you prefer, but I personally like to think there’s a reason they mentioned Taichi’s age explicitly — something they never did before. They also never mentioned the explicit age of any of the other characters.

Funnily enough, the DALEK official website and novel lists the character’s ages during the events of the film. Since the film takes place in the summer of 2010, taking those numbers at face-value would require us to believe all 8 characters have birthdays in the first half of the year. 

This contradicts the explicit on-screen information about Jou’s age in the original series (see below). 

I’m proposing this should be interpreted as their “average” ages, rather than precise ages at this specific moment in time — after all, in Kizuna it’s more difficult to identify the characters by their school year, like they always did before.

Sora’s birthday is canonically before the events of Our War Game. The film takes place during the spring holidays, which typically begin around the third week of March.

Sora having a March birthday is so universally accepted by Japanese fans that it’s even on her Wikipedia page. I wouldn’t be surprised if more recent writers took that information into account, post-OWG, and portrayed her accordingly. 

Notice that Pisces is only the more likely option considering the canon timeline and Sora’s personality — Aries (late March) and Aquarius (mid-February) could fit as well. Hence why I consider this choice [semi-canon].

Jou, who is a 6th-grader, mentions he’s 11 years old during Adventure. This suggest his birthday would be after August 1.

Ken is supposed to be 9 years old in August 2000, when he’s in Year 3, suggesting he has an April-August birthday.

This is different from other guidebooks which only list the characters “average” ages, because this lists Ken’s precise age during a specific event.

I believe Ken being exactly 9 years old went to the Digital world is deliberate, since Osamu is stated to be 3 years older than Ken, hadn’t yet turned 12 when he died.

Again, except for Miyako, Sora, and Jou birthdays, I can understand why fans chose to ignore any of this.

Personal Notes

My method isn’t about finding a putative “Official / True Birthday” — that never existed, at least for the Adventure eight. It’s about finding birthdays that work within the limitations of canon (see previous section). 

My HCs are based on the personality / character archetypes represented by the the zodiac signs. In theory, any Chosen Child could be understood as representing a specific symbolical archetypes.

The problem is that the Adventure characters are quite complex and often deconstruct traditional archetypes. This explains why it’s so hard for fans to agree on which sign they are supposed to represent. I should also note that anime series seem to understand astrological archetypes slightly differently from the Western mainstream tradition, which explains why typical anime zodiac signs sometimes feel a bit “off”. 

Nevertheless, some archetypes are so strong that most of the fandom seems to have reached a consensus: Jou/Virgo and Koushirou/Aquarius, for example. Then you have textbook examples of archetypes like Gemini/Miyako (unsurprisingly canon), Taichi/Aries, and Hikari/Pisces. But even there is a lot of room for disagreement and subjective interpretation!

The 02 writers clearly intended Daisuke to symbolise Fire, Miyako Air, Iori Earth and, due to the Dark Ocean connection, Ken Water. In fact, it’s super easy to place those four characters into any traditional 4-group personality types, such as the four temperaments, Jung’s types, blood types, ABCD personality, etc. 

My HCs respect this, and ended up creating two polar opposites within the team: Daisuke/Miyako (mutable) and Ken/Iori (cardinal).

It’s tempting to ascribe 12 main characters = 12 signs, but post-tri. I’m inclined to do something different and not put myself into such a limiting framework.

For this reason I repeat some signs, and I don’t have any Taurus character (sorry!).

My MAIN innovative choice is that I suspect Taichi and Yamato might represent the same sun sign.

Now, I understand this is an extremely controversial opinion. It isn’t a possibility I thought about until quite recently.

But Taichi and Yamato being “different but the same / two sides of the same coin” is incredibly well represented if both of them correspond to the Aries personality archetype. 

After all, they’re the leaders, the heroes, the Knights in shining armor. This explains their incredible similarities, despite superficial differences. as well as their love-hate dynamic: the rivalry, the union, the way they complement and balance each other out in an almost instinctive way.

Here are some examples of the Aries/Aries dynamic from the literature... 

Both of you are independent individuals and you don’t like feeling “owned” by anyone. Neither of you can tolerate being dominated or bossed by anyone else, so you probably make your own decisions, and direct your own lives. You respect one another’s autonomy, and a relationship that is based on constant togetherness and dependency wouldn’t suit either of you. Sometimes, however, there is too much emphasis on individualism rather than on being close and nurturing the relationship. You both have proud egos, and are sensitive to criticism. Almost inevitably you will compete with each other, and in small doses this can be invigorating. But it easily becomes nasty, and one of you is likely to get hurt. If you’ve ever seen two rams locking horns, you know what I mean! You either respect one another immensely or detest one another – rarely anything in between. (X)

If your relationship has been built on the basis that you are equals, the fire element produces tremendous vision and industriousness. Your combined power and effort could well be a force to be reckoned with — but again, only if you both learn to subdue your own ego in the service of each other. Remember, you can’t always be right. You need to try hard to see things from each other’s perspective; this will help the two of you become a great partnership over time. (x)

When Mars clashes with Mars, the result can be full-scale war, with all flags flapping, bravely and colorfully. Occasional flare-ups are bound to occur when these two are thrown into close, daily proximity, without the relief of some separateness in their association. But there will also be some glorious Highs to offset these Lows. (...)  It's been said that Aries people have a way about them. They do. Their own way. Yet, despite that sometimes antagonistic Martian exterior, they'll sense each other's desperate need to be appreciated and liked. When they get together, they may struggle for leadership, but the experience will supply some well-needed lessons. The shock of living with someone - or being around some- one - as innocently thoughtless, selfish and aggressive as one's self, is sure to soften any battering Ram, although there may be a few scars to show for the les- sons in living thus mastered. Aries hearts always carry more scars than the Rams ever show, or openly discuss. (x)

Sounds familiar, doesn't it? The more you read, the more this pattern begins to make sense. Try to watch the Dark Masters arc, the Agumon-is-kidnapped mini arc, tri., and even Kizuna with this possibility in mind, and you’ll understand what I mean.

Sure, order to accept this theory, you have to understand Yamato as a more atypical reserved / sensitive Aries (influenced by a Cancer Moon, perhaps?) and Taichi as a more “pure” Arien type. Yamato is more like a baby lamb, right? (don’t tell it to his face).

You can make a very strong argument for Leo!Taichi (that was my initial HC as well) or Yamato as almost anything else. I wouldn’t disagree. But why not come up with a fresh perspective to explain these two? 

Oh, and in case you’re curious, their (canon) Japanese Zodiac is also the same: Dragon, the direct equivalent to Aries.

A note about tri.: typing Maki and Daigo seemed straightforward enough. Maki is the stereotypical Scorpio antagonist, and Goggle Boy Daigo’s partner evolved into a literal lion.

I couldn’t resist the idea of making Meiko a Libra, considering her digimon partner is literally the Libra and Meiko is the 9th member of the group. But  personality probably fits other signs better — it’s very tempting to type her a Virgo, the polar opposite of Hikari. She could also be the missing Taurus element (Mei as the literal May Queen). 

The truth is... I can’t decide!

Disclaimer: There is zero scientific evidence for astrology and, as far as I’m concerned, it’s only interesting as a tool to analyze fictional characters in symbolic /archetypal terms. My headcanons are based on extensive reading about astrology, its symbolism and psychological profiles; I’m happy to share my sources (they’re not from pop astrology). But I’m also aware of the Barnum effect. We are all biased; there are no right or wrong options. Everyone’s conflicting headcanons are equally valid.

Feel free to ask questions or request more in-depth explanations for my suggestions, but FFS don’t start arguing with me and insisting I’m “wrong” based on other people’s equally subjective and disputable headcanons.

GENERAL

Clyde is so sociable that he ends up talking to strangers on a whim and gets caught up in their stories. His disposition is very inviting and encouraging, willing to give people the space to be as weird or open as they want to be. He has no shame and will inject himself into strangers’ conversations or approach just about anyone.

He maintains an endless curiosity for the world and the cultures around him. The type of guy to go to the movies alone and not feel bad about it.

He’s a hard worker, his video and influencer hustle is strong. He’s always trying something new, watching trends, and pouring a great amount of passion into his work. Because of this, Clyde is often busy and on an adventure of his own.

He’s fine with playing the idiot and letting people think he’s a typical ex-highschool brainless jock when he’s actually got so much more going on under the hood. That isn’t to say he’s smart, he’s just stubborn, genuine, and passionate.

Has a weird and secret obsession with vampires; the stories, the myth, movies about them, etc. Read and watched the Twilight series in secret. TEAM EDWARD!

^ This is purely based on the superhero he made as a kid (Mosquito)… seems pretty sus he made a hero all about sucking blood and regaining health from it.

^ He also did it to try and understand why the ladies were into it and accidentally got swept into the fandom.

He also really really likes dinosaurs.

Blames himself for his mother’s death and has never gotten over it. It’s baggage he’ll likely carry for the rest of his life. He’s afraid of taking on other mother figures for the simple fact he may ‘kill’ them too.

Makes Lemon Bars at least once a year in honor of his mom, typically on her birthday. They’re dished out to friends since it’s upsetting to eat them. It’s a habit he can’t break even if it upsets him.

Kisses the homies goodnight, just makes sure to add “no homo” so it ain’t gay.

YT/TWITCH CHANNEL HC’S

At the beginning of freshman year in college (where his main verse currently is), Clyde’s channel has around 500K subscribers on Youtube & Twitch. He also maintains an active presence on his social media (Twitter, TikTok, etc.)

He got a camera for his birthday in 6th grade and immediately created a YouTube channel. It’s called ‘Cryde Donovan Vlogs’ (a typo) until he later rebrands to ‘Clyde Donovan’.

Starting with vlogs, he eventually branches out to more ambitious videos such as pranks, commentaries, documentaries, gameplay, and live streams. As his channel grows he takes on larger-scale projects and risks such as professionally shot (by him) mini-movies or music videos.

He has a natural eye and gut instinct for filming, photography, lighting, and framing. All of his videos have him behind the camera or heavily directing to maintain his artistic vision.

^ Similarly, while he wasn’t good at school work, he understands the intricacies of the internet. Analytics and how to review / gauge them, when to post and when not to post, what’s trending, etc. 

Always down to collab or showcase people from South Park on his channels. The town’s weirdness and the odd charm of the people who live there are the foundation of his vlogs. His friends and family are heavily featured on his channel unless they request to be left out.

^ There are conspiracy theories out there that SP is just TOO weird to be true and the people featured in his videos are actors.

Roger initially fights his son on making a career out of his channel and even forces him to attend college for business / gen ed. It’s not a lack of faith but more concern that it’s uncertain, taking over the shoe store is more stable. He eventually relents.

Future Clyde becomes a successful online influencer and media creator with his channel and goes on to make a merch line (possibly with the help of Bebe).

FAMILY

Roger

Their relationship is good, though strained and tested time and time again by his son’s stupidity.

He wants his son to take over the Shoe store but Clyde’s aspirations don’t match the sentiment.

He eventually forces his son to go to college for Gen Ed / Business in hopes it would put a stop to Clyde’s talk of making it big online. It doesn’t.

Betsy

Even though she was hard on him, and her final words were chastising herself for not being tougher on him, he loves her and misses her dearly.

Taught Clyde a little of the Dutch language and culture

Sister*

He has a sister, (my HC is that) she’s older than him by a few years.

She takes on the ‘mother figure’ role after Betsy passes away but Clyde rejects it out of fear that he may kill her accidentally too.

Likes to sing and is pretty damn good at it!

FRIENDS

Has gone over to Craig’s house so often since childhood he basically lets himself in now.

The two have a similar relationship dynamic to Kyle and Stan, just with less drama.

The friend that Clyde confides in the most, especially with in struggling with his closeted Bi thoughts.

Out of his friend group, Token is the one that Clyde hangs out with the most since Craig is dating Tweek and he doesn’t want to intrude.

The friend that Tweek goes to when he’s been up for days and can’t sleep. Clydes excited energy and busy-bee schedule usually wears him down so he can sleep

Jimmy gets featured on Clyde’s channel the most out of his friend group since he’s funny, witty, and the two have a good banter and dialogue.

His Queen bestie!! Would do anything for her.

Likes having self-care day or spa nights with her. They get to unwind, maybe drink a little, put on a face mask, and hang out. Sounds like a win to him.

If he needs fashion or general life advice, he typically goes to Bebe. She radiates an energy that gives him comfort in the answers she provides. She also has the Tarot and crystals to back her up.

Initially starts out bothering Pete during his graveyard shifts at the station but starts staying longer and longer since he enjoys his company.

Dad Variable- a couple of non-canon ideas for the question of ‘where is izuku’s dad in all of this’. its fun because it’s like Clue and none of the endings are ‘the right one’

Upcoming: I want to do a fic about the Hero Rank Reveals and that nice reporter the anime blessed us with so who knows when that will happen.

Learning Curve: Short story in which Aizawa and three students are kidnapped- follows both the kidnapping and flashbacks leading up to it, a meta on quirk science disguised as a story, lots of fun worried dadzawa. (Completed! 7/7) Fun Fact: I wrote this entire story in two days at thanksgiving break, when i was left alone in the apartment in silence and went a little crazy.

The Many Faces Of Midoriya Izuku: When Izuku punches the Zero Pointer, his whole appearance changes. Everyone scrambles to figure out if he’s always had a quirk without knowing it, or if OFA is just mutating in him. Again, i have a lot of plans for this, and it’ll have some really fun times around Kamino and Overhaul, but... :3 well. Izuku’s got to deal with a lot too, so therapy too baby! (2/?)

Voltron: Hero’s Attempt- just a oneshot toying with the idea- Tamaki, Aizawa, Hizashi are Alteans, and Black Paladin Toshinori is staying behind to give them time to get to voltron castle and flee before the Thousand Year TImeskip or whatever. Mirio and Nejire are also aliens and paladins, and Aizawa locks the three of them and Tenya in the cryopods while he and Hizashi watch over the castle. Much Later, Izuku, a human, finds the castle hidden on earth, Green Paladin izuku, Red Paladin Tenya, Black Paladin Mirio, Blue Paladin Tamaki, and Yellow Paladin Nejire end up being the lineup. if anyone wants to be inspired by this, please do.

Will and Ways of the Force- Star Wars AU, Phantom Menace style. 1/3 because no one is interested in it kjhjkjhjk

Play The Clock Backwards: Currently being rewritten and fleshed out, but there’s a mini story in the au posted if it interests you. Roleswap, Stain is 1a’s teacher, Aizawa’s a vigilante, there’s just a lot going on. Eri rewinds Dabi at the summercamp tho.

The Ageswap AU- Eri and Izuku’s age groups swap, the big three and the teacher’s age groups swap, and you’ll have to read The Kids Might Just Be Alright to learn the others. There will be more fics in this series eventually, including one all about Eri and Aizawa-senpai rescuing little Izuku from his captors. (dont worry, plenty of dadmight. and big-sis nana. :3)

“Wrist Soulmates” AU- where someone has a list of positive soulmates on one wrist and negative on another. and turns out izuku’s got a lot of negative, but no one knows: after all, how could a quirkless boy have one fated enemy, let alone so many? They must just be positive, strange as it sounds. (Spoiler: they aren’t.)

“The Roleswap For Gentry”- A story in which Touya stays with his family and becomes a hero, and Hawks is adopted by someone else instead of the HC, becoming a villain. But, Touya is given something to investigate to keep him away from the LOV Investigation by his father during Shoto’s first year, so he wants to solve that as fast as possible and get back on the mission he wants. Hawks, who he knows he should see as an enemy, complicates things, but he wants whoever is framing him off the streets too.

Y'all end up finding another All Might stan to confide in, as Deku rambles to you about some of the most recent events (trying not to bring any attention to himself), or some of his favorite trivia. And you're just leaning into your palm like I swear if I ever see you again I'm gonna marry you

So Deku takes his leave, and starts becoming a more dedicated/consistent customer. And as you get off work one day, you offer to go see a new hero documentary in theatres with him, or to go chill in a cafe, and he's just like... UHH, YEAH???

Fanfic Author Appreciation Fic Recs (Late)

I know this is late as hell, even considering I said I’d do it the day after appreciation day. I’m a gay disaster, don’t bully me. Also, peopole reasponded really positively to my post suggesting I might make a complication post every week and I really enjoyed doing this, so I probs will and will use the tag “weekly recs with kat” if you’re interested.

Here are an assortment of fanfics I’ve read and loved recently, including mini-reviews. I have a lot of respect for all of these authors/these fics and highly encourage you to read them. Here’s what I’ve been reading recently, organized sort of by topic and sort of by the dates read in my history. 

This got really long so (oops), so I’m putting it under a read more.

Piercings

Above the Eye. by alwayswriting: Dan gets his eyebrow pierced. Phil likes it too much.

Review: it’s a quick but super adorable read. i’m suddenly super invested in the idea of phil having a piercing kink. which leads me to the next rec...

Sunflowers by cruelbeauty: The truth is, Dan loved having something that was a total secret from their fans. He loved his fans and he liked sharing information about their lives but having this one small thing was so nice to think about. That this one small detail was something only Phil knew. His family didn't even know.He has a navel piercing.

Review: if you liked above the eye, you’ll like this. i love that it also includes this little take on their relationship, and dan’s relationship with their audience. it’s a nice addition to this fluffy little fic. 

Random Fluff:

drunk thoughts are sober words by @danhasacrushonphil: The opportunity of a life time comes in the form of Phil Lester actually showing up at a party, all tattoos and bright blue eyes. Dan's been crushing on him for far too long, so getting the chance to play Never Have I Ever with his crush? Yeah, he can't pass that one up. What could go wrong?

Review: literally my fav fic i’ve read this week. i’ve adored adrienne for ages but now she’s my personal hero. tbh i can’t even properly review this to the full extent i want to because i wanna reread it and really savor it this time.

Review: also one of my fave oneshots from this week. i love love love this take on them (and people in relationships in general) finding other people attractive. it’s such a nice break from jealous!phan fics and i think really shows how people who are comfortable and happy in their relationships are okay with admitting other poeple are hot

Coffee. by alwayswriting: Every morning there was a coffee on Phil's desk. Who kept putting it there? He was about to find out.

Review: i’ve been reading new fics that alwayswriting posts for a while now, but i kinda went on a stalking binge and read through their fics i hadn’t read yet. they’re all great. this one is freaking adorable. it’s a quick and easy oneshot that leaves you happy. also does anyone know if they have a tumblr i can tag?

Memories in Melbourne by @danandphilwhomst​: based off of the recent instagram stories in Melbourne :)

Review: you will feel so fucking warm after reading this fic. it’s soft, it’s sweet. the characterization and insight to their relationships are both golden.

Photoshoot by @auroraphilealis: Seeing Dan model his clothing for the new AmazingPhil merch proves to be too much for Phil, who can’t quite bring himself to care that they’re in public.

Review: okay this is more smut than fluff but i’m not making a separate heading for this one fic lol. it’s elizajane, the queen of smut. do i really need to say anything more to convince you to read it?

Depression:

The First Step by @melapplesphan: “Dan’s been gone for almost twelve hours this time, Mum.”Dan accidentally overhears an emotional conversation between Phil and his mother that forces him to question how he's been dealing with his depression. Is he finally ready to take that first terrifying step toward healing?

Review: look this is literally the best depression fic i’ve ever read. it’s perfect angsty, but with the right amount of hope in it. and it shows growth and healing in a realistic and positive light. 

if you’ve lost your way, i’ll leave the light on by @nihilismdan: He forgot when he was lost in his own head that there were people around him that cared for him, it was just telling them that was the problem. or Dan, a therapy session, and being kind to yourself.

Review: look i’ve been in a funk all week and suddenly hopeful depression fics have been my cup of tea. this one is warm and i particularly love phil in it.

WIPS i’m currently reading:

The pianist everyone is talking about... is my husband by @natigail : YouTuber pianist Daniel James Howell is thrown into mainstream media's awareness with the release of his first album. Phil works at BBC Radio 1, who increasingly play Dan's songs more and more often, and he couldn't be prouder of his husband. However, no one knows that Dan and Phil are married as they have chosen to keep their relationship private.By accident, Phil is thrust into his husband's fandom when his colleagues learn that he likes the pianist. Phil isn't sure how to tell everyone that he's actually married to the guy everyone is either praising or swooning over.

Review: look i’m fucking living for this fic okay? it’s a WIP but it’s 2/3 chapter rn. tbh i wish there were gonna be more chapters. i’m in love with this au and dan as a piano player. and phil is so uncomfortable and squirmy sometimes and it’s adorable.

the water might be lovely by @isleofbants: Dan, utterly fed up with uni, runs away to the Isle of Man.Seeking escape, he gets more than he bargained for when he rents a room out from happy-go-lucky, recent grad, Phil Lester.

Review: i’ve seen this floating around for a while now and been interested in reading it. and then elizajane set it to me for our little wips bookclub (of just us) and oh my god i wish i’d started back at the first chapter. but also i don’t because binging nine chapters was a great use of my life.

Salty Saturday | Buckle Up. | Accepting!

This is such a broad topic, that I feel like I should do a quick-fire round of mini-salts about characterization things I’ve seen this month that have given me a headache. I have a literal headache, so... Here we go!

The RAH 25th anniversary didn’t make radical changes to the traditional stage show. Go ahead and say you’re an ALW Erik, for the love of God, stop being pretentious because Ramin’s performance “influenced” your portrayal. His performance has influenced most Eriks, even unintentionally, since the release of the 25th anniversary production. 

On that note - wtf is this ‘headcanon influenced’ bullshit? EVERY RPER IS HC INFLUENCED. There are other ways to say your character is basically an OC without sounding redundant af.

If you don’t go HARD with Kay, don’t tell me you’re Kay based. I’d say “sorry I don’t make the rules” but I’m not sorry and I did not pour 13 years of my life into this garbage fanfiction to get my hopes up that other people give more than a cursory nod to Kay. You’re a mix of ALW and Leroux. Congratulations. Join the club. 

THERE IS NO SHAME IN BEING BASED OUT OF ANY PARTICULAR VERSION OF A STORY. Just... ya know... know which version you’re based on. And if you mix it, BE PROUD. 

There comes a point where you’ve just made a fucking OC. OWN IT. You’ll feel better. You really will. (This from a girl who is reworking a canon’s bio to an OCs).

OCs are the fucking best!!! .... as long as they’re well written. 

Seriously. I will take a well-written OC over a poorly written canon ANY DAY. Miss me with that elitism shit.

YES let villains be villains. ALSO let villains be human. It’s okay if they do nice things sometimes. It doesn’t automatically mean the writer is woobifying them. 

YES let your heroes be heroes. DO NOT let your heroes be perfect. It’s okay if they fuck up sometimes. It doesn’t mean they’re bad - it means they’re complicated. 

You can have the most eloquent metas and HCs in the world and I can still heartily disagree with your characterization. It doesn’t mean you suck. It doesn’t mean I’m a bitch. It just means we walked away from a text/film/show with different interpretations. I wish you well, but it’s okay for me to wish you well from a distance.

It’s possible to be friends with someone who characterizes the same canon as you, even if their portrayal is wildly different than yours. You both just have to be in a place of acceptance and open mindedness. Or agree on the same, weird, particular and petty shit. Your call. But BEING FRIENDS WITH DUPLICATES FEELS GOOD. 

A female character is not “weak” because she’s in a ship or wants romance. I can’t believe this still has to be said. Stop making people feel guilty for wanting romance arcs for their characters. 

DO SOME GODDAMN RESEARCH before you pick up a character. Or while you pick up a character. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WRITING HISTORICAL FICTION GDI. Or a character from another culture. Jfc.

YOUR FIRST OC IS GONNA BE SHITTY. THAT IS OKAY. My first OC was a teenage mutant who could turn into a fox, who quickly got replaced by her badass, slightly sadistic, mysterious part-alien squadron commander on a space station. They were all bad. BECAUSE I WAS LEARNING. So if you think you’re writing is shit, just remember - you learn as you go. IT GETS BETTER. 

YOUR FIRST CANON IS GONNA BE SHITTY. The first time I played Erik, he was high on opium ALL THE TIME and I had the symptoms very, very wrong. THAT IS OKAY. You get better with time.

THE POINT IS TO GET BETTER. It’s not about graduating to OCs or to canons. It’s not about getting followers. It’s about building a solid foundation of writing partners you can call friends, working to get better day by day, and having FUN. God. Everyone - myself included - acts like this is their 9 to 5. It’s not. It’s a hobby. As long as you’re having fun and making forward progress, you’re doing it right. STOP PANICKING. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHER PEOPLE. EVERYONE CHILL OUT. Your character will be the right one for someone. As long as you’ve got that small handful of writing partners who challenge you, have fun with you, and help you grow, you’re winning.
