The batkids (and their partners/crushes/friends) with pride month hcs?
Tim: Lady. Gentleman. Bart. You are about to meet my boyfriend. Now remember, he doesn't know I'm Robin, so you need to act like human people. Can you do that?
Kon, Cassie, and Bart: Yes sir!
Bernard, entering: Hey, it's nice to meet you guys. I'm so glad we're going to Pride together.
Cassie: *lasso immediately falls out of her bag*
Kon: *lasers the ground at Bernard's feet*
Bart: Hi, I'm Impulse.
Tim: *facepalm*
Bart: What? We didn't give away YOUR identity.
âââââââ
Steph, running a food truck: Pride snacks! Get your Pride snacks hot 'n ready! Get two-for-one on the bi-rria tacos!
Margie: I bet you don't have anything for straight pride. You know, the rest of us normal people.
Steph: Yo Cass, one cishet sizzler!
Cass: *throws coffee in Margie's face*
Steph: That'll be $19.99.
Steph: *turns the screen around for tips*
âââââââ
Selina: *wears a shirt saying Free Mom Hugs*
Bruce: *wears a shirt saying Inclusive Dad Jokes*
Alfred: *wears a shirt saying Weird Grandpa Stories*
Kate: *wears a shirt saying I'm Just Gonna Tell You To Dump Them*
âââââââ
Harper: Since this is your first Pride, we're gonna show you the ropes.
Duke: Thanks, I appreciate it.
Harper: Over there we have the Batgirls food truck. Over there is Cullen's evil mafia boyfriend selling Uno cards. And over there is the Justice League in Justice League themed drag.
Cullen: And over there is the porta potty.
Duke: Only one?
Cullen: We ran over budget. But it's gender-neutral.
âââââââ
Renee: Kate's busy telling people to dump their partners. Mind if I hang out here?
Harley: Not a problem! Want a bi-rria taco?
Renee: Nah, but I'll take the les-beans if you don't want them.
Ivy: We were just about to start a game of Gay Uno.
Renee: Gay Uno?
Harley: It's like regular Uno except when you put down a +4 you have to kiss.
Renee: Deal me in.
âââââââ
Jason: You take the Main Street entrance. I'll cover Atlantic up to Washington. Rendezvous here in an hour.
Roy: And then we make out?
Jason, sighing: Sure.
Roy: Sloppy style?
Jason: This is a PG-13 post, Roy.
âââââââ
Dick: Of course I make people question their sexuality with a face like this.
Wally: Sure, your face...
Wally: *glances down*
Donna: You guys are exhausting. I'm joining Roy on patrol.
âââââââ
Barbara: Welcome to the annual conference of Sapphics Who Used To Date Dick Grayson. Helena, what's the first item on our agenda?
Helena: Discussing forming a polycule over dinner.
Bette: I already made a reservation.
Kory: I call braiding everyone's hair.
âââââââ
Luke: Thanks for giving me a hand with the fireworks.
Carrie: Of course. By the way, I have something to tell you. You're the first person I've told.
Luke: I accept you.
Carrie: Thanks, but I was actually gonna say that I scratched your car in the parking lot.
Luke: WHAT?!
Carrie: Also I go by she/they.
âââââââ
Lois: How on Earth did you burn your cape at a Pride festival?
Jon: Well...
[earlier]
Damian and Jon: *watching the fireworks*
Damian: I like that flower one.
Jon: *shoots into the sky to grab it*
Damian: *facepalm*
Tim, sitting nearby: You and me both.

Perpeptual
Some of Young justice are teleported/isekai'd during one of their battles to an underdeveloped world barely out of the iron age.
The planet confuses them, perpeptual night but the climate is warm and the flora abundant regardless of the missing sunlight. It has a single yellowy green moon that is stuck in orbit at the same point in the sky as the stars move around it.
Some of the locals have accepted them into their small village, their language is close to spanish; esperanto Wally says. Atleast they can somewhat communicate now. The people are unsettingly human with only slight changes to their body; lighter skin, pointed ears and glowing eyes.
They spend a little over two weeks helping the locals with their building some kind of stage for a festival. A large corridor of metal, spires of green crystal that Connor says make him woozy on top of his already low solar energy from the weeks stranded here and thick braided cord wound around the bases of the spires and inlayed into an intricate pattern winding their way to the corridor of metal.
The chief, Degelinta Stellumo, is happy to say the festival can begin early. When asked about the festival they cant translate much other than it's to thank their god for keeping them safe. About how thousands of years ago the day god Rox tried to consume their world, the night god Phan covered their world in protective night to protect it from Rox's anger.
The team is perplexed as the festivities begin, rhythmic chanting fills the air as one of their young men, that Megan recognizes as Stelo, walks forward dressed in furs and a iron crown upong their head. He steps into the corridor, the crystals glow brightening as he does so, almost alive in the perpeptual moonlight and the chanting getting faster and faster. Duh-duh-duh-duh-da-duh-duh-da-duh-da~.
There is a massive flare of light coming from the corridor, the crystals shatter and fly everywhere and the people cheer. Stelo steps, no floats from the now blackened corridor changed; his body glows in a pale white light, hair once black now pure white while his eyes are toxic green from his previously white and a cloak of stars floats behind him in an invisible wind.
He looks around confused, tired, until his eyes settle on the young superheroes going from Connor's house of El crest to Miss Martians skin to Robins stylized R.
Everyone is shocked as the being speaks to them in echoy but clear english, "You lot are a long ways from home, arent you?"
"Uhm, yes... sir," Tim hesitantly asks hesitantly unsure how to address this being? God? Entity?
"Right, well not to belittle your situation but we're holding up the festivities I'm certain the Sheo'lp people have been working on for some time. Let us celebrate a bit then we can talk about your situation."
"What are you," Megan blurts out, confused, "Stelo stepped into that corridor and his mind is gone and now theres just static."
"I suppose i can answer that easily enough. My name was/is Danny and I dont know what I am anymore. Once the festival ends, Stelo will return to himself. I promise."
The now named Danny stops floating and walks over to the tribespeople, stopping to hug and greet everyone by name and accepting food and drink happily. He cries as he eats the food and drink, thanking the people in esperanto repeatedly as he does so, this goes on for several hours before the partying starts to die down and Danny takes the group over to a dying bonfire.
"Right, I suppose you have questions but I would like some verification."
"Verification?"
"Yup, just need to know if you are who I think you are. It's been forever since I've been around earth but you look familiar.
He points at Miss Martian, "M'gann M'orzz?"
Pointing to kid flash, "Bart? No... Wally West."
Points to Robin, "Damian Wayne."
Points to Superboy, "and that would make you Jon Kent."
They partially confused, partial perturbed that this entity knows some of their names. Tim looks him square in the eyes, studying him, thinking about protocols for what to do when a godlike entity just namedrops your baby brother like its no big deal.
"Its just Robin as I am," Tim says, eyes never leaving Danny's.
"Shit right, apologies I forgot about superhero 101, no names. Its been a while since I had to worry about names, time is blurry these days to me. Now! What about those questions?"
"Can you get us home," Tim asks straight forwardedly. "We've been missing from earth for a few weeks now."
"Sure," he says nonchalantly, surprising the team, "Well yes and no. *I* can get you home but I know something who can but you need to Promise me that you'll follow my directions once you go home. Deal?" He holds out his hand to Tim, who looks at it before shaking it.
"So long as it doesnt endanger those i care about then Deal."
Danny nods before taking a deep breath and holding out a hand, a small crack running through the seam of reality as green light fills the area, from the crack a scroll flies through at high speeds as he catches it. "Hello old friend," he says tiredly, seeming to have dimmed greatly from that stunt.
"A scroll," Connor asks incredulously.
"A map," Danny corrects, "of everything. Take hold of each other before taking the Map, once you do take the map and say where you want to go." He looks at connor briefly, "it wont be a pleasant trip for Jon but it is nessesary for you to get home. Hopefully this trip should innoculate your biology against ecton radiation."
"Wait radiation," wally yelps.
"Its harmless to humans, mostly. Its the fastest way to get back to Earth, youre on the other side of the universe kids. Now, once you're back on earth tell the Map to return home and let go. So take the map, i need to go speak to the chief for a bit. Thank you for being here and letting me help." Danny groans as he slowly gets up and walks over to the chief's tent.
"Do you think he's okay," Megan asks the group as Tim looks the rolled up map over.
Connor watches as Danny leaves, "He's low on energy. Like how Kryptonians are without yellow sunlight."
"Unfortunately we cant focus that right now, grab hands its time to go." They each take the others hand as Tim holds up the map, "take us to the Justice Leagues Watchtower on Earth." The map unfurls as a blue energy grows over the group as they begin floating and the scroll begins to drag them across the sky, a similar crack as before opens before them and swallows them up and the next couple of seconds are filled with blurred visions of vast green voids, purple doors and massive beasts lurking in the distance, the eyes following the team as the fly past.
As quickly as it began its over as a final crack tosses them out at a fast speed into the Justice Leagues cafeteria, scattering on impact and flinging food everywhere as the security systems begin to screech as the team sigh in relief.
"We're home..."
***
"So you mean to tell us you've been trapped on another planet for all this time," Barry asks as the members of young justice sit at the conference table with the other adult members of the justice league.
"Yes sir."
Batman is pensive as hes thinking, "and this entity called you by your names?"
"Mostly, he thought Kon el and I were our younger counterparts."
"Hnn."
Kid Flash leans over to Megan and whispers, "that's bat for I dont like this." Barry cuffs him over the head.
"So should I return the map to Danny?"
"Did someone say my name," a chipper young voice says as he sticks his head through the table, familiar glowing green eyes and white hair who freezes at the sight of the map, "how do you have that? B What's going on?"
"The young justice team has been stranded on a distant planet for several weeks, they just got back with the help of this artifact. Do you recognise it?"
"Course I do, don't know how you have it because its supposed to be with FB in the zone."
"Wait a second," megan exclaims, suddenly recognizing the static she was getting from him "You're Danny! What happened to Stelo?"
"Who?" That takes the wind out of her sails, "oh... i get whats going on here. Classic time travel, don't tell me anything. If you have the map then FB or I gave it to you for a reason. You should send it back."
"Do as he says Robin," Batman says nodding in understanding.
Tim takes the map in his hand, "go back home, uh... map?" He drops it as it unfurls and zooms off through another green crack. "What's all this about?"
"Dunno," Danny says as he leans back as he floats through the table, "hasn't happened yet."

Authors note:
Little more detail on what happened between the gods in the Sheo'lp's tale. Their sun was going supernova and Phantom in a last ditch effort to save the planet wrapped his being around the planet as the sun exploded around them. His ice core cooling the suns now explosive heat, his body giving them stars to look at and his core to give them light. Their planet is essentially a terrarium surrounded by a critical nuclear reactor. Due to time dialation from earth to there hes been holding back the sun for over a thousands of years by the point YJ arrive.
The festival is a recreation of the fenton portal that they offer one of their own for Phantom to overshadow to partake in their food and drink as thanks. Once he runs out of energy from the crystals his overshadow breaks and he returns to his duty leaving the host with memories to later become the chief and lead their people with their knowledge.

i think there's an act for thinking that the batkids lie, making up stories all because Dick told the Teen Titans when they were kids that Bruce Wayne is Batman. so when they tell the truth, the others think they are straight up lying.
Dick: Little Wing is back! He's Red Hood.
Donna: Here we go again.
Gar: Nice one, Dick. But nah.
Wally, pouts and hugs him: Hey, I know you miss your brother. It's okay, Dick.
Dick returns the hug regardless.
Roy: Nah, cus Red Hood is built like a brick. By the way, I have to say it, he's hot as fuck.
Dick: Heyy, that's my brother you're talking about!
Donna: The last time we saw Jason, he was tiny and so adorable.
Raven: And he wasn't violent at all.
Dick, whines: I know but trust me, Red Hood is Jason.
Kory touches Dick's forehead to check if he has a fever after he hit his head during a mission.
---
Jason: I'm living with Roy and I'm going to adopt Lian.
Artemis: Really? The Big, Bad Red Hood?
Bizarro: You and Roy? You adopting little girl?
Kory shakes her head, patting Jason's head.
Jason: Why are you all looking at me like I'm making up bullshit?
Roy: We're getting married, live with it!
---
Tim: I'm missing my spleen.
Cassie: That's crap!
Bart: Ha, not funny, Rob. That's not crash.
Kon: Really? How come you're alive then?
Tim, rolls his eyes: Cus it's just my spleen.
Cassie, Bart and Kon look at each other and laugh.
Cassie: Reminds me of that time when you told us you're straight.
Kon: That was funnier though.
---
Cass: I killed.
Steph stops eating.
Babs stops typing on her computer.
Steph: We're waiting for the punch line, babe.
Cass: Not a joke.
Steph and Babs exchange looks, before shrugging and continuing their tasks.
Steph: I could kiss you right now, but I'll do it after I'm eating.
Cass rolls her eyes, but she's smiling.
---
Duke: I'm a meta.
Daxton: Whaaat?
Duke: You heard me.
Izzy: How come you never told me about this?
Riko: Cus he's obviously lying.
Izzy: Besides, doesn't Batman only have human kids or?
Duke: Doesn't mean me being a meta isn't true.
Daxton: Uh, anyways... Let's get some burgers!
Duke is getting ready to show his powers, when Izzy holds his hand and he just shuts up on cue.
---
Damian: I'm gonna call my dragon bat.
Jon: DRAGON BAT????
Damian: We need back up. And he's the best one.
Jon: Why didn't you tell me you have a dragon bat???
Damian tts.
Jon: Don't tell me you have a dragon rat too.
Damian: Do they exist is the question.
Jon: You're so funny, Dames.
Damian: I wasn't telling a joke, Jonathan.

Idk if Iâll ever write this but I love the fics where one of the robins is brought to the future to see the modern fam but often times they donât get to meet the adult version of themselves so this is what I think that would look like for them.
Letâs put Damian at about 14 here so itâs a fresh from the league, maybe a few months into living with Dick as Batman. He is enraged to find his older self so soft. He wastes his time on pointless things like painting, animals, and video games. (No he is not jealous, he is disgusted by how happy and relaxed he looks in the future, of course)
I imagine Timâs mini popping up when heâs around his team. Cassie, Bart and Kon canât stop gushing about how cute the baby Robin is. Red Robin Tim is trying to talk baby Tim out of a panic, because where is Batman? Why isnât he with him? Who are these teenagers who keep trying to hug him and make comments about his bowl cut? (He canât believe how self assured his older self is, or how comfortable he is with receiving attention. Or how obviously loved he becomes)
Stephâs Robin sees the spoiler costume and asks if theyâre back to working on their own again. Steph smiles sadly and makes the kid a plate of waffles and tells her that she doesnât need to be one of Bruceâs adoptees to be one of his kids. (She is a part of the family. Tiny Robin Steph is amazed by the confidence she injects into the words. They donât sound like a mask anymore)
Jason Toddâs Robin finds himself in a dark living room at night. Itâs clean and decorated. A little girl walks through holding a cup of water, she canât be too much younger than he is. Lian sees him and calls for her dad(s- she hasnât called Jason her dad yet but she considers him her other parent). Once both Jasonâs figure out who the other is, both have very different internal monologues. Bitty jay is shocked by how domestic he gets to live, he gets to have a loving family and a home with a big bookcase, warm blankets and a full kitchen. (Older Jason is suddenly terrified because he does not remember being that tiny when he was that age. Lian is a couple years younger and theyâre the same size.)
Dick Grayson sees his older self and thinks he went back in time. Why? Because that man looks like his Tati who is dead. Itâs a heartbreaking realization for Dick who, despite having pictures of his parents, had no idea he looked so much like John Grayson. (Itâs a difficult conversation, to explain to a child who just wants to see their dad one more time that you arenât him)
#Bruce obviously sobs when he sees his kids as babies again#he canât help it#their just all so tiny and cute#also I just have this image of my head of Tim holding the baby Tim in a hip carry#heâs so precious I canât#batman#robin#damian wayne#tim drake#stephanie brown#jason todd#dick grayson#red robin#red hood#nightwing#spoiler#batboys

I feel like whether Tim is on some level suicidal in RR #12 is very open to interpretation, which is part of what makes it fascinating!
because Tim's homecoming to Gotham is the culmination of an upward/self-actualization arc, after struggling through multiple low points/depression/an extended breakdown.
he finally got proof Bruce is alive. managed to claw Tam and himself out of the Cradle and away from the Council of Spiders/LoA by the skin of their teeth. thumbed his nose at Ra's and reaffirmed his own principles by blowing up all the LoA servers. finally kind of processed that Kon and Bart are both alive again - he just tackle-hugged Kon in RR #9 and told him, "when you found me in Paris, I was in a bad place. Now... Now I'm in a good place." he's full of renewed purpose and the realization that he doesn't, in fact, have to do things alone! (team-up Robin ftw!)
so probably not actively suicidal
but then in all of his frantic calculations to thwart Ra's and save each and every person Bruce loved - he doesn't factor himself in. he doesn't put himself on that list of loved ones and set up a contingency for preserving his own life (wtf Tim).
or does he??? that's where the ambiguity comes in for me, because we don't actually see him discussing the full details of his plan with anyone. and he doesn't mention it in his internal narration, either! because his internal narration is always super reliable..... hmmm.....
we know that Dick isn't aware of any other contingencies, or indeed the full details of the plot they were thwarting - after catching Tim, Dick has to ask him, "You want to tell me what that was all about?" and of course "How did you know I'd be there to save you?"
and as I've mentioned before, I don't think Tim had actually planned for Dick to save him, so his "You're my brother, Dick. You'll always be there for me," response is uh, both loving BS and a "genuinely felt expression of retroactive faith", as Silver put it (and which has been stuck in my mind in glowing cursive letters ever since, lol).
but. we do know that as part of his plan to thwart Ra's ninja-assassinate-Bruce's-loved-ones plot, Tim calls all three of his best friends into Gotham. (among all his other rallied allies.) his best friends who are various combinations of flight and/or superspeed capable. and who had each just smugly patched in via comm to confirm that their protection jobs were all successful, meaning Tim knew they were available if he potentially needed them.
the fact that the rest of the Core Four then twiddle their thumbs and let Tim keep fighting Ra's on his own after confirming Alfred/Selina/Barbara are safe, instead of zipping over to have his back (ie punch the jackass through a wall) almost has to be because of: (a) Tim's plan to deliberately stall so Lucius could file the WE paperwork (on the Watsonian level), (b) Yost allowing Tim to have his Final Showdown with the villain of the arc on his own, and also (c) Yost setting up the emotional climax/reconciliation of Dick catching Tim (both on the Doylist level).
like, Tim stalls Ra's for long enough that Dick is able to glide and grapple his way over from his own ninja-busting detail, we don't think the speedster or the Superboy could have gotten there in time?
Dick is the one who caught Tim because it was thematic, it's a motif in their relationship and the resolution of their 12-issue arc, and don't get me wrong I wouldn't change that moment for anything - but! he wasn't the only one around who could have done so.
and Iiiiii have to suspect Tim would know that? there's ambiguity and room for interpretation, of course, especially since Tim doesn't say anything at all or call out to anyone as he's actually falling.
but also. Kryptonian superhearing? Tim's comm which could very well still be connected? could he have been relying on allies listening/clue-ing in, whether or not he actually explicitly sketched out a back-up plan with anyone to come back him up, after Lucius was done transferring WE? all according to (dumbass improvised) keikaku??
idk! seems plausible to me, but it's all so open to interpretation, it makes my brain go BRRRRRR đ like you can make a compelling case/headcanon/fic any way you look at it!
anyway. Dick catching Tim is very much The Moment Ever Of All Time <3 but also the thought of Kon just hovering at the ready to grab Rob but spotting Dick!Bats swooping in and being like ":))) oh ok. they both need this." is v. hilarious to me

Nonna Rosa fixes it
[Now on AO3!] Okayyy, it's officially not the weekend anymore, but only for like five minutes, so technically I'm on time! This got totally away from me, and I had to actually force myself to end it where I did. Nonna Rosa took the narrative from my hands and said 'I'll take it from here', and good for her. Not to be dramatic but I love her. Anyway, if any Italian-speaking people read this: I AM SO SORRY. This is all Collins dictionary or Google Translate, I don't speak a word of Italian and I'll be very glad to correct any mistakes you might notice ⼠I hope you guys enjoy it! if you want to know more about Nonna Rosa, send me an ask, I have looots of headcanons for her (and Tommy's childhood). Here you go:
A week after breaking up with Evan, Tommy is still feeling like shit. He can barely sleep, anything he tries to eat tastes like sawdust, and he feels like heâs living on autopilot. He goes to work, he comes back home, he tries to eat, he tries to sleep, rinse and repeat. Nothing else matters, thereâs nothing else he feels like doing. He doesnât answer Howieâs texts asking how heâs doing (he answered the first one, telling Howie not to worry about him, but canât do more than that); he completely ignores Eddieâs invitation for Muay Thai and basketball, and he comes up with an excuse as to why he canât make karaoke bar that Thursday. And yet, thereâs one thing he canât put off, as much as he wishes to: talking to his Nonna.Â
Tommy calls his grandmother at least once a week; she still lives in Indiana, in the same house he spent most of his childhood in, and he knows his uncle Bart visits often. But he likes to hear from her himself. Visiting her was a rare occasion, and the last time he was able to was about four months ago. The minute he had stepped in, Nonna had asked him if he was âinnamoratoâ, because he was looking so much happier than usual.
And he knows sheâll perceive his sadness just as quick, if not quicker. The woman has always been able to read him like an open book. Sheâs probably the only person alive who can; heâs always made sure to keep his layers hidden from everyone else, even fromâŚÂ
Well. Doesnât matter now, does it?Â
Fact is, that if he misses his call with Nonna, itâll be even worse. Sheâll know somethingâs up, and he doesnât put past her to fly across the country to check on him (heâs always been the favorite grandson and everyone knows it). So itâs best to get it over with. With a heavy sigh, he sits down on his couch (and tries not to think about how empty it feels when itâs just him in there) and rings her up, bracing himself.
âPronto? Tommasino?â She answers the call, as always with the camera too close to her face, and that at least brings a smile to his face.
âNonna, you need to stretch your arm a little. Remember, like Charlie showed you?â He asks with a chuckle; Charlie being his cousinâs daughter, Charlotte, who taught Nonna how to FaceTime so she could âsee Tommasinoâs pretty face more oftenâ, in her own words.Â
She stretches her arm and Tommy gets a good look at her. Nonna looks the same as always, sharp blue eyes in a soft face thatâs wrinkled both from age and from a lifetime of smiles. Her hair is wrapped in hair rollers and tucked safely behind a red bandana. Tommy misses her fiercely, and wishes more than ever that he could get wrapped in one of her hugs.Â
They always did wonders for him when he was a little boy who used to climb trees and get scrapes and bruises; when he was a scared eleven-year-old missing his mother (and as a grown-up he can appreciate Nonna was hurting at least as much as him, having lost her daughter, but still never let it show) and dealing with an angry abusive father; when he was a scared eighteen-year-old, before leaving the only home heâd ever known to join the Army. And when he was a scared 33-year-old man, coming out as gay to his 75 year-old-grandmother, afraid of being rejected by the one person alive who truly loved him, and Nonna had stood on her tiptoes, pulled him into one of those hugs, and told him all she ever wanted for Tommy was to see him happy, and that she would always love him.Â
A hug from his grandmother had always made Tommy feel like the world was an easier place to be faced, and right now, thatâs exactly what he needs. And his longing must show in his face, because sheâs frowning at him, her eyes full of concern.Â
âOh, Tommasinoâ She says softly. âWhatâs wrong, bambino mio? You look so sadâ She asks, and to Tommyâs horror, he finds his eyes filling up. Nonna has that way of bringing out every emotion he tries to repress.
âEverythingâs wrong, Nonna, and itâs all my faultâ He blurts out before he can stop himself, and the look on his grandmotherâs face tells Tommy sheâd be placing a sizable plate of cake and a cup of strong coffee in front of him if she could.
âYou have a habit of saying things are your fault even when they aren't, so I'm afraid I'll need the entire story, my boyâ She says gently, and Tommy watches as she sits down by her kitchen table (the same kitchen table where he did most of his school homework, the same kitchen table from where he always used to steal a biscotti while they were still warm), supporting her face in her hand and turning those sharp blue eyes at the phone screen. Tommy swears he can feel them pierce through his very soul. âWhat happened? Is it your Evanino?â
The question sends a knife right through Tommy's chest as he imagines what could have been. Gosh, Nonna would have loved Evan (who doesn't love Evan, you idiot?, he tells himself), and he knows deep in his heart Evan would have loved her as well. Every time Tommy would talk about her (which he did fairly often; he was a grandma's boy and had no shame about it), Evan would get a wistful expression on his face and tell Tommy that she sounded awesome.
He had been planning on taking Evan with him next time he managed to visit her, not wanting to introduce them through the phone. Now it's for the best he didn't; at least Nonna won't have to miss him like Tommy does.
âHe⌠he's not mine anymore, Nonna,â He admits, his voice thick with emotion. âWe broke upâ
âWhat?! Ma comme?! You were so happy last time we talked!â She asked, and of course Tommy was happy; it was the day before their six month anniversary, and he had been so full of excitement. âWas he not happy? Is that why you're blaming yourself, Tomasino?â
A smile as bright as sunshine crosses Tommy's mind. A smile that only started to fade once Tommy told him he knew how it ended. A smile that had become his personal beacon of light in the past six months. A smile he misses like a lost limb.
âHe⌠he was happyâ He says, because that much he knows to be true; Evan was happy with him, Tommy made sure of that. His grandmother frowns at that, and Tommy doesn't blame her; the story seems convoluted, feels convoluted, even to himself, and he lived it.
âThomas, you have to help your old grandmother, because I cannot understand what is the problem. If you were happy and he was happy, then why are you not together anymore?â
âBecause he asked me to move in with himâ Tommy says, and that doesn't seem to clear the situation for her. If anything, her frown deepens, and she reaches for a piece of bread, fiddling with it; Nonna could never keep her hands still, especially when she was nervous, and Tommy had inherited that from her.Â
âDoes that mean something different when itâs two men?â She asks, completely genuine, and that earns a surprised chuckle from Tommy.Â
âNo, Nonnaâ Tommy says, and all of a sudden the urge to laugh is gone again; it never lasts long, not after Evan. âIt⌠It means the sameâ
âVery well, and you said no? Thatâs why he ended things?â She asks, and Tommy sighs brokenly, the memories of the night no less painful than when it happened.
âNo. I⌠I broke up with him, Nonna. He asked me to move in with him, and I didnât just say no. I⌠I broke up with him," Tommy admits with a heavy heart.Â
âTesoro, you do realize you are not making any sense? You and your boy were happy; he asked you to move in with him, and instead you broke up with him. Then you show up looking like your heart was broken and tell me it is your fault. What am I missing, bambino?â
âI have a house, Nonna!â He snaps, finally being able to voice the things that have been stewing in his heart and mind since that night. âI have a house, and he lives in a rented loft, and it makes no sense for me to move in with him!â
Nonna doesnât answer right away. She chews thoughtfully on her bread, letting a small silence fall between the pair of them before she eventually sighs and answers him.
âBenne, you have a point, it wouldnât make sense. But that isnât the whole problem, is it, Tommasino?â Nonna adds shrewdly. âYou could have talked it out, explained that to him. So what made you walk out of the best thing that happened to you in years?â
Tommy can always trust Nonna to lay things down exactly as they are, no matter how painful it sounds. Sheâs right, he did walk out of the best thing that happened to him in years, maybe ever, and itâs getting harder and harder to justify that decision to himself.Â
âN-Nonna, I was⌠I was falling so in love with himâ He tells her, and feels tears starting to prickle the corner of his eyes.
âYes, Iâve known that since last time you were hereâ Nonna says impatiently. âThatâs not a reason to leave, Thomas; thatâs a reason to stayâ
âOnly if he loved me backâ He says automatically, and Nonna crosses her arms, unimpressed.Â
âAnd who says he doesnât? Did you ask him?â She asks sharply, and Tommy sighs. This conversation is taking a completely different route than what he expected.Â
âI didnât have to, Nonna. I⌠I just know it, okay? I was his first relationship with a man. I cannot be the last, thatâs not how it works. And I⌠I thought I was okay with it, that I could enjoy it while it lasted, but⌠But I didnât expect to love him this muchâ He admits, as much to himself as to her. Itâs all his fault, really, for falling so deeply, flying too close to the Sun. âI-itâs safer to break my own heart now than to let him do it when Iâm way too deep to recover. N-not that Iâm recovering all too well, but⌠could be worseâ He finishes, already wiping the few tears that inconveniently decided to rush down his cheeks.Â
If Tommy expects his grandmother to nod sympathetically at that and coo at him (he kinda does; she has a habit of doing that when he cries), he has another thing coming. Nonna scoffs loudly, hitting the table with her hand, strong from decades of kneading bread. The noise is enough to startle Tommy out of tears.
âThomas Domenico Kinard, I didnât know me and your dear Mamma, may God have her soul, had raised an estupido vigliacco!â She exclaims, her hand flailing loudly to emphasize her words.Â
Tommy will be the first to admit his Italian is rusty, but heâs pretty sure she just called him a stupid coward. And. Ouch.
âNonna!â He exclaims back, but she isnât dissuaded. She tuts him with a sharp âSilenzio!â and a raised finger, and Tommy shuts up right away. He knows that when Nonna starts, the best he can do is take the scolding, so he leans back on his couch, trying his best not to look like a chided boy who got caught stealing fruit from the neighborâs orchard.
âYou are my grandson, and I love you more than anything in this world. You are a good man with a wonderful heart, but you have one big problem, Tommaso. You always assume you know peopleâs feelings better than they do, and then you make your own decisions based on that without actually asking anyone. Remember when you decided I should move to California because you thought I was lonely here?â She asks, raising an eyebrow, and Tommy nods sheepishly. âDo you remember what I told you?â
âThat if and when you wanted to move to California, you would let me know, but you were perfectly capable of making your own decisionsâ He mumbles back, the epic scolding from five years ago still fresh on his mind.Â
âEsattamente. Now, I think your Evanino deserves the same courtesy. He is not a silly child, Thomas. If he wants you to be his last, if he loves you, who do you think you are to decide that he doesnât?â
âBut he never said he did,â Tommy replies stubbornly. âHe⌠He never even told me he loved me, he just asked me to move in with him. Itâs like⌠Itâs like he wanted to prove a point, Nonna. That he could be⌠committed, or queer, or whatever, I donât know. But he never said he loved meâ
âDid you say it to him?â Nonna asks, and Tommy stares at her with his mouth agape. Damn this woman and her ability to ask the most uncomfortable questions.Â
âN-noâ He admits. âI⌠I was too afraid of him not saying it backâ
âHmmmâ Nonna hums thoughtfully. âThatâs your other problem, bambino mio. You think you donât deserve to be loved. I blame that man for thatâ Nonna says with a scoff, and they both know exactly who sheâs talking about; thereâs no lost love between Rosa Lucciola and her ex-son-in-law, Brian Kinard, and the way he treated Tommy and his mother before she passed is the sole reason for it.Â
âWell, thatâs neither here nor there, Nonnaâ He says with a shrug, always uncomfortable when his father becomes even a small topic of conversation, but she tuts disapprovingly.
âAh, isnât it? Has it never occurred to you that maybe your Evanino could have the same problem? That he was as afraid as you to show his heart and have it broken?â
Tommy desperately wants to say that he thought about it, that it occurred to him; but it hasnât. Evan is such a sunshine of a man, always so prone to smiles and loving gestures towards anyone he cares about, that Tommy never thought there could be insecurities there. Now it makes him feel selfish and stupid (or estupido as Nonna had so accurately called him).Â
âNonnaâŚâ Tommy says, his mind catching up to everything she said and a horrifying realization dawns on him. âWhat if he did love me back? Oh my God, did I fuck this up?!â He asks before he can stop himself.Â
âLanguage! Do not take the Signoreâs name and swear in the same sentence!â She chides him, and Tommy mutters âsorryâ, but her look is impossibly fond. âBut, well. Maybe you did; maybe you didnât. Are you going to sit around and mope or try to find out?â Nonna challenges him.Â
âW-what if he never loved me, Nonna? Or what if he did, but me walking out made him stop?â Tommy asks, not knowing which possibility scares him the most.
âWhat if he still does, Thomas?â Nonna counteracts. âWhat if he loves you and is too afraid to reach out because you already rejected him once, hm? Someone has to be brave, and he already was when he asked you to move in, bambino. Maybe it was a little impulsive, but his heart was in the right place; it was in your future togetherâ
Tommy realizes Nonna is right. He canât expect Evan to reach out (he realizes he was at some level, and he would have rushed to it; one call from Evan and Tommy would be right back to his life, ready to reheal his own heart when things inevitably went wrong, just for another glimpse of Evan Buckleyâs personal sunshine); itâs his turn to fight for them. Itâs his turn to be brave.Â
âAh, you finally realized it, hm?â Nonna says; something must be showing on his face, because thereâs a satisfied smile on her face. âFight for that boy, Thomas. Fight for your happiness, tesoro. Prove to your Nonna you are not estupidoâ
âNonna, you are most definitely the best person on the planet, and I promise you didnât raise a estupido. Iâll do right by Evan. By⌠By me. By both of usâ Tommy promises to her, promises to himself. He blows a kiss to the screen of his cellphone, desperately wishing he could kiss her cheek in person. âTi amo, Nonninaâ (I love you, granny)Â
âTi amo, nipotini del mio cuoreâ (I love you, grandson of my heart) She tells him back, and a mischievous smirk appears on her face. âYou better bring that boy here to try my rondelli before the year is over, you hear?â
âDio, I hope so, Nonnaâ He tells her, and they say their goodbyes before hanging up. Tommy already misses her.
He holds his cellphone close to his heart, wondering if he should text Evan, but decides against it. This is too big for a text, too big for a call. Heâll go over in the morning, probably with a bouquet of flowers or whatever other extravagant gift he can come up with, ready to grovel and explain himself and beg for a second chance, even if itâs only to hear a ânoâ. Even if itâs only to let Evan yell at him and get the closure he deserves. Even if itâs only to get his already shattered heart broken into even more pieces. Tommy has to be brave.
After all, nonna and mamma didnât raise a coward.Â
(Evan doesnât say no. And when Tommy explains, after several rounds of make-up sex, what made him change his mind, he promises to send Nonna a present. The present ends up being him and Tommy, because they go to Indiana for Christmas, and Evan falls in love with Nonna and her rondelli. Just like Tommy knew he would)

Reacting to you making/giving them a friendship bracelet. (Ace, Roger, Marco, Shanks, and Doflamingo)
AN- Here lately I've been making friendship bracelets and thought this would be a fun idea! I hope you enjoy and let me know if you'd like to see a part two with more characters! (Find part 2 with Zoro, Luffy, Sanji, Bart, Sabo and Law here)
Characters- Ace, Roger, Marco, Shanks, and Doflamingo.
Warnings/Content-Fluffy, Minor mentions of violence/blood, Very Suggestive/NSFW themes in Doffy and Shanks's part.
Ęâ˘á´Ľâ˘ĘďžâĄ More under the cut
Ace
đĽAce would in utter shock, saying something like âYou really made this for me???â đĽş
đĽAfter you confirm it is, be prepared to be pulled into the biggest most heartfelt hug youâll ever experience in your life (He couldn't help it, he was just so happy :)Â
đĽAs we all know Ace can be pretty crafty, so I feel he would learn how to make them so he could give you one too!
âY/N! Y/N!â Ace came running up to you with his signature wide smile painted on his face.
âHey Ace.â You return the smile as he catches his breath. "What's up?"
âClose your eyes and hold your hand out!â You do as Ace asked and feel something slip over your wrist. âAnd open!â You look down and see Ace had made you a bracelet. âAnd the best part.â He held his wrist up next to yours, showing off the bracelets you'd made for each other. âWe match now!âÂ
Totally didnât take him 100 different times to make it because he kept accidentally setting the twine on fire. With that being said, the poor Moby Dick almost caught on fire 100 different times.
(Thank you Marco for making sure that didnât happen.)
đ- You're welcome, yoi.
Roger (SFW)
đĄď¸-The king of the pirates absolutely lost his mind when you gave him the bracelet Â
đĄď¸-Thinks of it as a good luck charm (he would do something corny like kissing it before going into a fight)Â
đĄď¸-Shows it off to everyone and I mean everyone (especially enemies)
âLook at what my sweet Y/N made for me.â Roger held his wrist out to the confused pirate laying half dead at his feet.  Â
âWho cares, Itâs just a stupid bracelet.â Stupid???? The bracelet that you worked so hard on?
âAww he didnât mean that.â Roger cooes at the bracelet, causing the now even confused man below to quirk his bloody brow.Â
âAre you insane? Itâs just a-âÂ
 âDIVINE DEPARTURE!â
(âOh wow what a lovely bracelet!â-- Literally everyone who witnessed the scene above.)
âŹ~Smart ways to live~ ⏠~So many smart ways to live~âŹ
 Marco (SFW)
đ When you gave Marco the bracelet you didnât get much of a reaction because he was super busy doing paperwork
đ Heâd pull you down for a quick kiss before saying âI love it.â without even looking at it
đ But he didnât have to look at it to know he loved it, it already met the requirements because you made it.Â
âWake up sleepy head, I need you to sign off on this.â Thatch threw a report on Marcoâs desk, rudely waking up the blonde up from his much needed nap. âNice bracelet by the way.â Marco raised a brow hearing the man holding back laughs.Â
âYeah it is nice because Y/N made it for me.â Marco held his wrist up with a smirk, attempting to make the other man jealous.
âOh I know~â Thatch could no longer control his laughter as he pointed at the bracelet. âItâs pretty obvious she did.âÂ
âHuh?â Marco grabbed his glasses and took a closer look to see what had the chef doubled over in tears. âAre you serious?â His hand slams over his face after seeing what the beads on the bracelet spelled out. âI swear that girl is going to send me to an early grave.â He stood up and shoved the now signed paper into his friend's chest. âYou tell no one about this." Marco glared daggers at the laughing man. "Thatch.."
âOh don't worry, I wonât .â Thatch smiled innocently while slowly making his escape. âY/Nâs babygirl.âÂ
"THATCH!"
(Needless to say the entire Whitebeard crew knew within five minutes.)
 Shanks (NSFW)
â¤ď¸ He loves anything you give him, and I mean anyyything
â¤ď¸ You could give him a single grain of sand and he would go show it off to the whole world
â¤ď¸ So when you came up to him holding a bracelet that you had hand made, he was over the moon smitten.
 âShanks hold your hand out?â
 âWhich one?âÂ
 âŚ..
 âŚ..
âThat was funny and you know it was!â You roll your eyes as the red haired man starts laughing at his own joke.
âJust hold your one and only hand out for me please and thank you.â He's all smiles as you roll on the bracelet before adjusting it to fit snug against his wrist.
âAww you really made this for me?â His grin grows wider while taking a closer look at it. âUm, sweetheart this is real thoughtful and all, but does it really have to say #1 DILF?â He looks up at you with a raised brow.
âYes it does.â You hold out your hand to show off the bracelet wrapped around your wrist. âOtherwise we wonât match.âÂ
âDILF destroyer huh?â Shanks smirks. âIâm curious to see just what kind of âdestroyingâ you can do when I have you whimpering under me.â
(You literally cannot win with this man.)
Doffy (NSFW)
đŚŠHe looks down on the bracelet on his wrist with a rather displeased expressionÂ
đŚŠIn all honesty he found it quite adorable that you put time and effort into making something for him
đŚŠBut itâs what you called it that has him unamused
Â
âWhat did you just call this thing?â
 âItâs a friendship braceletâŚâ
  âHow ridiculous.âÂ
âYou don't like it?..â Doffy notices the dejected look on your face and with a flick of his wrist, pulls you into his lap.
âDonât get me wrong my sweet girl, I do appreciate it. But..â A wicked smirk forms on his face while large hands trail down your curves, slowly making their way under your skirt. âIâd say me and you areâŚ. a little more than âfriendsâ~, wouldnât you agree?â
(The same bracelet decorated hand found its way around your throat as he proved his point to you.)

Sherlock fandom.
Signs
They were subtle. You needed to pay close attention to see them. Most people didnât, but that was not important. The pair that mattered, when it came to perceiving these signs, had learned to read them as others read the newspaper.
***
It started not long after they met at Barts. They walked down Baker Street from the tube station. Sherlockâs expression soured when he saw the black door.
âWhat is it?â John asked, already fine-tuned to his flatmateâs moods.Â
They tended to have a ripple effect on how the rest of the day went.
âMy brother is here,â Sherlocks said darkly.
âHow do you know that?â John asked and looked up to see if anyone was standing by the window upstairs.Â
Nothing.
âLook. Observe!â Sherlock demanded.
âOh,â John said after a few seconds. âThe knocker is straight.â
âGood man,â Sherlock praised. âI always keep it askew to know when heâs here. He canât stand to see anything out of place.â
âSo, he always straightens it before he comes in,â John finished with a chuckle.
âIndeed,â Sherlock beamed. âKnew youâd get there.â
***
A cup of cold tea at the table beside his chair, or on the kitchen table, was another sign. Even if Sherlock forgot heâd asked for tea or said he wanted a cuppa when John asked him, John always provided them without fail. He never complained that Sherlock forgot.Â
Itâs alright. I know youâre busy, but I want you to know that Iâll make as many cups as youâll like. Because I care.
***
Hot baths when the weather was damp and cold, and theyâd been out solving crimes for far too long. Without even asking, Sherlock filled the tub with scolding hot water for John.
Here, Iâm proving that Iâm not a sociopath. I would be lost without you. Now, let this bath heal your old wound so youâll be fit to follow on my heels when a new adventure comes our way.
***
After a while, a sinister ploy almost forced them apart.
âRun, Sherlock! Save yourself. Iâm a soldier. Youâre not. Run, for Christâs sake. Save that brilliant brain of yours!â
Eyes locked. An entire conversation took place over a span of seconds.
Iâm not going anywhere. I will go to hell and back with you, John Watson.
âTold you you had a heart, Sherlock,â a sing-song voice echoed through the tiled room.
***
Frantic movements, thoughts of a loved oneâs demise if you werenât quick enough made hands tremble, heart racing, tears flowing. Finally, the parka with the bomb was torn off John and flung across the floor.
âAre you alright? Did he hurt you? Answer me, John!â
Hands roaming over a body heâd barely touched before.
âFine, Sherlock. Not hurt, just a bit shaken. Stop it! Breathe, Sherlock.â
A hug, so tight it made it hard to breathe for both of them.
âI thought Iâd lost you.â
âPeople will talk.âÂ
âI donât care!â
A tentative kiss, turning desperate.
I have loved you for so long. Please, donât let this scare you. I need you in my life. To function. To thrive. To feel whole.
***
At a crime scene. Deciding on the next cause of action. A nod, eyes meeting, a ghost of a smile showing off a dimple.
Ready? Always. Follow me, then. Right beside you.
***
The ripple effect of their extraordinary relationship reached far and wide. Every newspaper in the country at first. They told the story of a consulting detective and his loyal blogger, his doctor, his soldier. It didnât feel right to say one name without the other anymore. They were an item now, in every capacity of the word.Â
When there was a crime unsolvable to the police, the tall and handsome detective appeared like a whirlwind. By his side, the unassuming blogger, doctor, soldier radiated calmness. But by now everyone knew that hidden behind that collected façade, was a man ready to run after the mad detective, protecting him from harmâs way, kill if necessary.
News travel fast, and before long the entire world had heard of the great Sherlock Holmes and Doctor John Watson. A pair every criminal feared, and yet some of them always thought they could outwit them with their ingenious scheme. To date, no one has been successful in their endeavours.

Bart Allen's Life as a Carousel of Horrors, Loss, Ableism and Love
cw: ableism
LONG POST
You've been raised in a VR chamber for a possible relative 19 years, but it's only actually been 2 years, you're not really sure what time is, or what it means. The line between reality and virtual reality have blurred so seamlessly realness seems fake and hurts.
You've been told you're dying.
You'll be dead within 4 years if the scientists cannot cure you. Reality reminds you of this. You stay in VR because it's safe and nothing can hurt you there.
You're still dying.
Your grandmother shows up one day, you didn't know your grandmother was still alive. She's furious with the scientists but agrees you are in the best place you can be because you are dying.
She keeps visiting you every now and then, you can only interact with her in the real world. It makes the real world bearable because you can only hug her when you are unplugged from VR.
She is the first person who tells you they love you. You never felt love before.
You are still dying, and the scientists are starting to suddenly feel like they don't actually love you - because you know what kindness and love is supposed to look like and it's not that.
Your grandmother grabs you one day and kidnaps you from the only place you've known as home - you can tell it's for the best, you trust her, because she is the only person who has ever loved you. She says she's taking you to meet other family and everything will be better.
She lied.
But not intentionally.
You're ripped to an alien time where nothing make sense, rules don't make sense, people don't make sense, everything hurts, people don't know what to do with you, you don't know what to do with them either, but at least you are no longer dying.
Your cousin who you already admired from your studies is not the person you thought he'd be - it's for the best if you love each other from a distance even if you're not sure yet if this is love.
Your grandmother cannot keep you.
She has to love you from a distance. She says you will have to live with a man you don't know who never came up once in your history lessons. He is a stranger.
Max Mercury does not love you.
Max Mercury is there to fix you and everyone has reminded you that there is something deeply, deeply wrong with you.
You are no longer dying, but you still need to be fixed.
You make the most out of it because maybe this is just how things are, and there is no use getting upset or feeling bad because there is nothing you can do about it. Video games are like that too - you're just playing on hard mode and you need to practice to get better to clear the level - only no one really explained the rules, and it's up to you to figure out the controls.
You get yelled at when you press the wrong button.
You get yelled at when you press the wrong button.
You get yelled at when you press the wrong button.
You get yelled at when you press the wrong button.
You get yelled at when you press the wrong button, but they won't tell you what the correct button is, and sometimes that button will change entirely for no reason and they will still yell at you for pushing the wrong button.
You love Max Mercury anyway, it's a new sort of love and one that is difficult to explain but you love him and he loves you.
You meet your cousin one day, stranded from your birth-time and you never felt like someone just got you like she did. For one moment, everything feels just right, but she cannot stay with you.
Like your grandmother, and Wally, Jenni has to love you from a distance.
You say goodbye, you don't know if you will ever see her again and you hope your letter lives the thousand years to reach her just so you can make one permanent connection with her.
You don't get yelled at for pushing the wrong button one day, but you know you pushed the wrong button. Max refuses to talk to you, he says there is nothing more he can teach you, you're hopeless.
You're no longer dying, but you still need to be fixed.
Your mother shows up out of nowhere and you fall in love all over again. You are lavished in affection you haven't felt since the first time your grandmother came into your life.
She promises you there is a home of love waiting for you back in your birth-time.
You've said goodbye before, but not like this. You hug Max tight before you go, and you can feel there is love there, but it's not the love from your mother or grandmother. But it is still love.
Your mother cannot keep you.
You never knew what it was really like to be hated before now, and it's not fair that the villain of your story wins and gets to love your mother and you can't.
You start to realize that your story is when the bad-guy wins over and over again.
Like your grandmother, Wally, and your cousin Jenni, your mother has to love you from a distance.
You go back 'home' and there is no home to go back to. Your cousin Wally yells at you for coming back and you're reminded that you can only be loved from a distance.
It's not like you want to live with him either.
Max is the only stable home you've known of and he accepts you back in his life with his daughter Helen.
You like Helen. She doesn't yell at you when you push the wrong button. You can tell Max doesn't approve but it amuses you that there is someone he can't say 'no' to that is on your side.
You are no longer dying, and no one has mentioned that you needed to be fixed for a long, long time.
Your home isn't perfect, you don't feel the same sort of love that you did with your grandmother and mother, but there is still love and you wouldn't change it for anything because Max and Helen are everything to you.
No one gets you like them.
You are no longer dying, but Max is.
You try desperately to fix him because he spent so much time fixing you and it didn't matter if you still don't know what's wrong with you, he is everything to you and you love him and he loves you and you finally feel the same love for him that you do your mother and grandmother and it all goes away.
You've never felt so loved, then so hated all at once when your clone tries to take what you had. You can't hate him though, because he hates enough, and unlike you he was never loved.
You remember being unloved too.
You beg him to stay.
He doesn't.
You don't have time to mourn him, and what you could have had with him as a brother, because Max is still dying and you're the only one who can help fix him.
When Max is no longer dying and things return to normal you know you are loved and whatever everyone said was wrong with you was wrong. Max loves you like your mother loves you and Helen is no different.
You are no longer dying, and you are so very much loved.
Everything is perfect.
You have to say goodbye to your best friend, and it hurts more than when you said goodbye to your mother, because you don't understand the sort of love you had for her. Was it romantic love? Did it matter? You loved her and now your best friend is gone.
Like your grandmother, Wally, your cousin Jenni, and your mother, Carol has to love you from a distance.
One day you feel yourself die and you almost lost everything.
You feel like you are dying again, and it never stops. The event is so visceral it makes you question if you really need to be a superhero after all and you decide to stop.
One of your other best friends calls you a coward for it and you know she's wrong, but you swallow your disappointment and you leave. It's okay if she doesn't understand you - no one really does.
Your civilian friends, Helen and Max make you feel like you are safe again and it is all because of their love.
You find meaning and purpose again as a superhero.
You are no longer dying, and you know you are loved and accepted and everything is as good as it can be. It was a long journey, but you are content despite your grief because you are loved.
... ... ... ... ... ...
Max dies.
No, he doesn't just die, he's gone, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
You think he will be back any day now and it fills you with hope. You still have a home with Helen and all of your friends and you will wait for him because despite everything he is your dad.
The family that was supposed to be your family all along tell you that Helen cannot be your family anymore, and you have to move.
There's something still wrong with you and Helen cannot deal with it. You're an imposition to her. Max was the only thing keeping her home stable while you were there. You need someone to watch over you, not love you, love wasn't part of the equation.
Your grandmother denies there's something wrong with you and Helen, but she still won't take you in, she has someone else's child to love instead.
Your cousin still insists there is something wrong with you.
You know there is nothing wrong with you, and you think you finally get your cousin to understand and see you for the first time.
Nothing about this is fair - Helen's life isn't fair either, and you decide to help give her the life she deserves even if it breaks your heart.
You move, you lose everything again.
Like your grandmother, Wally, your cousin Jenni, your mother, and Carol, Helen has to love you from a distance.
You never lived in a house with a married couple before. They bond with you quickly and you love them, but you never forget Max and you love him from a distance.
You think your relationship with your cousin is mended but he reminds you that there is something wrong with you and it will never be fixed.
No amount of love, will ever save you, and you will always lose.

trick or treat!
treat! (aka a snippet fic i ended up writing on the bus about tim asking yj for advice re: the huntress/nightwing/oracle situation)
âSo, wait, Nightwing is dating Huntress?â asks Cassie.
âI donât know what theyâre doing!â Tim replies. âThatâs half the problem.â
âAnd do we like Huntress?â asks Cissie.
âYesânoâitâs complicated,â Tim replies. Heâs doing a lot of replying and he doesnât entirely like itâmore out of an instinctual avoidance of being on the interrogatee side of an interrogation than anything elseâbut he had been the one to ask for advice. Which, in hindsight, may have been a mistake, but itâs one heâs now committed to. âI do like her. But she struggles with following Batmanâs rules. I mean, we all do, but she struggles with the no killing aspect of it specifically.â
âBut has she, like, actually killed anyone?â Kon asks. Heâs floating in the air, cross-legged, with one of Cassieâs pillows hugged to his chest. Itâs kind of cuteâespecially with his oversized Superman t-shirt, because, thankfully, he doesnât actually sleep in his costume.
Not that Tim would ever say itâs cute out loud.Â
âNo, not since we started working together properly.â
Kon shrugs. âThen I donât see the problem? Yeah, itâs majorly screwed that sheâs killed but it also sounds like sheâs changed." Tim might be imagining it, but he almost sounds wistful? "And being able to stand up to the bat seems like a point in her favour more than anything.â He pauses. âPlus, based on the picture you have of her, sheâs a total babe.â
Tim just knew visual aids would be a mistake. This is on him for not being able to resist a corkboard. Cassie, acting on behalf of the team, throws a pillow at Kon. It does smack him in the faceâhe still needs to practice his catchesâbut before it can fall to the ground his TTK catches it and now heâs hugging two pillows and maybe that backfired slightly.Â
Tim puts his corkboard face-down on principle. Huntress probably doesnât even know he has the photoâher foot in the middle of kicking a bad guyâs face, her fist breaking the jaw of another. He doesnât have much time for photography anymore, but sometimes he just itches to go out and capture Gotham and its heroes. The photo of Nightwing, meanwhile, is him shoving his face full of pizza, a hand reaching out to try, in vain, to block the camera lens.Â
Oracle, of course, is represented by her icon. He still hasnât started thinking of her as Barbara.
âItâs not all about looks,â says Cassie. âEven if she is really hot.â She pauses. âLike, really hot.â
âOkay!â interrupts Tim. âThatâs enough of that.â He did not need his friends calling his co-worker hot.
âYeah, it really doesnât matter,â agrees Cissie, and of course he can count on her to have his back. âEspecially since Nightwing is way hotter than her.â
A part of Tim dies inside. Just shrivels up and expires, there and then.
âOkay, but Nightwing is hotter than, like, everyone,â points out Kon. That part of Tim is currently being cremated. âAnd cooler, and more badass. Or whatever.âÂ
âMost documentaries on 20th-21st century heroes talk about Nightwingâs attractiveness at least once,â says Bart offhandedly from the corner where heâs playing Polyp-mon. Itâs one of his first contributions to the conversation. The part of Tim that died earlier is now having a funeral held in its honour. Suzie, at least, is still absorbed in the game. Sheâs spent the conversation peering over Bartâs shoulder, occasionally asking him to catch a specific polyp-mon. Though he doubts her additions would be worse than what is currently passing for advice.
âGuys, please,â Tim says, desperately trying to course-correct the conversation. God, itâs so much worse having them talk about how hot this co-worker is. âStay focused on the problem.â
âIs that you like Oracle more?â asks Cissie.
Tim hesitates. Oracle is one of the most impressive people he knows, and getting to actually spend time with herâespecially when itâs her teaching him about techâis awesome, and sheâs saved his life more times than he count or probably even knows about. But heâs only known her face-to-face for a short time, while heâs been fighting side-by-side with Huntress almost as long as heâs been acting properly as Robin.Â
âThatâs not whatâs important,â he deflects. âWhatâs important is whatâs best for Nightwing.â
âRight,â says Cissie.Â
âWhat if they all just dated each other?â asks Bart
âYou can do that?â asks Kon, at the same time as Tim says, âIâm pretty sure that wouldnât fix it. In fact, Iâm pretty sure that would make it worse.â
The silence stretches.Â
âWell, good luck with that!â declares Cassie. âNow, who wants to watch Xena?â
Tim sighs, but letâs the hang-out move on. Whatâs happening with Nightwing, Huntress and Oracle is such a mess that thereâs no way a bunch of teenagers are going to be able to untangle it, especially when most of them donât have much experience in romance or life or both. Tim certainly doesnât have a leg to stand on when it comes to having non-messy relationships. Heâs sure Dick will figure it out. Eventually.
Kon floats down next to him as Cassie and Cissie go looking for the VHS, with that grin on his face that Tim just knows means heâs come up with some terrible joke. âLook on the brightside! When the divorce happens, youâll have not one, not two, but three Christmases. Not four, because Iâm pretty sure Batman doesnât celebrate, but three is still pretty good.âÂ
âYay,â says Tim, voice as flat as he can make it.
#yj98#young justice 1998#fic#batfamily#tim drake#idk if this fully works timeline wise? but im not stressing about it#this is some time post-nml#also i've only read some of the issues w/ the huntress/nightwing/oracle situation - the rest is secondhand from root#idk how aware of it tim actually was in canon#basically. please do not interrogate how canon-aligned this snippet fic is. please and thank you#also yes its no longer halloween but shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh#my stuff

Since I think about clones like Iâm getting paid for it, I've been rotating those alternate universe "what if Bart and Thad were actually raised together" scenarios in my brain, with Thad either post-redemption-arc or pre-villainy. Because adjusting Thad's character to fit an ally role while still keeping true to his core motives and personality is so so fascinating to me.
Like I think there's an immediate first instinct to slot Thad into a "bad" twin category: ie rebellious and prickly, doesn't get along with people, mean lil shit. And obviously it's not wrong bc we're outside the realm of canon, but the reading still feels a little left of center.
Because Thad is mean and prickly in canon. In the Impulse comics he belittles Bart and Bartâs friends/family constantly in his appearances. He loves to goad, and monologue about his own superiority and intelligence. Heâs very Not Nice, and he causes many problems, and he even does it on purpose.
But, I think itâs important to consider the context. From the jump Thad knows very little about anything except which team heâs on and who heâs playing for. He gets his orders from an unseen authority and he carries out his tasks because success means his team wins.
For all his self-aggrandizing talk, everything he does is in service of an end goal that doesn't actually center him. He's trying to get revenge for grievances he's never personally suffered, retribution for actions never committed against him. Everything he does is on someone else's behalf.
Thad sees in black and white, us or them. Up until the final few issues of Mercury Falling, Bart and co. are Thad's enemies, of course he's not going to be nice.
So Thad's motivation seems pretty simple: Thawne Supremacyâ˘.
But itâs in Mercury Falling where this starts to fall apart, and the real core of his motivation gets revealed. Thad pretends to be Bart and suddenly Helen is nice to him. Bartâs friends think heâs funny. Bartâs teachers are impressed with his grades. Max ruffles his hair and gives him hugs and tells him heâs done a good job.
If he was actually an inherently mean and standoffish character, if Thad actually had significant personal stake in the Thawne VS Allen conflict, the weight of such tiny acts of kindness wouldnât completely break him the way that it does in canon.
Thad thinks his goal is superiority and revenge and Thawne Supremacyâ˘, but he's chasing validation. Thad doesnât have a personal stake in the Thawne VS Allen conflict. He wouldn't get much satisfaction if he actually destroyed Bart and his family. Thad's personal victory would be the recognition after the fact: the praise and attention from the other Thawnes (a group of people he has literally never met) for his success.
He wants validation. That's basically it. And the fact that he gets it so easily from Bart's family and friends doesn't align with how he's told himself things are supposed to work.
Actually tangentially, Bart and Thadâs respective relationships to authority is so diametrically opposed and tbh kind of subversive in a superhero narrative. Where the hero is the one carving his own path without regard to social or societal rules, no fucks to give what anybody thinks of it. And the villain is a chronic people-pleaser.
Just based on Thadâs reaction to simple praise and affection from Max I really think Thadâs motivation has more to do with the response he gets than whatever the details are of any given task. He has no actual personal convictions beyond getting positive attention, and whatever he did have crumbled as soon as Bartâs friends laughed at his joke one time. Which of course leads into the core of his whole conflict at the end of Mercury Falling. He cares too much about Bartâs friends and family now, he doesnât want to kill them, but worse than that, heâs faced with the sudden realization that heâs on the wrong side.
The Allens gave Thad everything he actually wanted and needed, but his conception of himself is inexorably tied to the Thawnes: who gave him jack shit. These two facts are in opposition to each other, and he canât reconcile the reality of it.
Anyway all this to say, in an AU where Bart and Thad are raised together or Thad gets an actual redemption arc etc etc, I think my personal take on Thadâs personality whether it be pre-or-post-villainy would be one that is extremely socially conscious. He is much more of a people-person than Bart. Whether he's actually accurate in assessing people's feelings and how to respond to them can be hit or miss, but he wants to behave in a way that gets people to like him.
Pretending to be Bart isnât remarked upon as, like, a difficult task for Thad. In his internal monologue heâs literally bragging to himself about how easy it is. But whatâs especially notable to me is where his act differs from Bart's typical MO. Everyone notices, and lots of people comment, and presumably if Thad didnât have the excuse of Maxâs illness to âmotivateâ Bart to do better he wouldâve been found out immediately. And those things are, specifically: paying attention in class, doing his chores, staying on task, and being helpful around the house. The one thing about Bart he chooses not to emulate is Bartâs rebelliousness.
Thad wants to prove himself, constantly, to whatever authority he respects (probably Max in this scenario) and will do whatever it takes to make that happen. In contrast to Bart, who only listens to authority when the shit they're saying actually makes sense to him. Itâs excessively difficult to convince him to go against his own interests. (And I think a key part of that is Bartâs security in knowing that no matter how much he fucks up or doesnât listen, the people he loves will always love him back.)
Thadâs got the people-pleaser in him that has to deserve whatever heâs given. Itâs why heâs happiest when heâs given a clear goal or objective to complete, because it gives him an opening to prove himself.
All this to say that if we are quantifying Bart and Thad as a "good" or "bad" twin, in the eyes of every authority: Bart is the bad twin. Bart is the bad twin, Bart is the bad twin. Bart is the one who doesnât care about school and whose grades vary wildly depending on his personal interest. Heâs the one who goes off to do dangerous shit for fun and gets in trouble constantly and doesnât do his chores and is thoroughly unconvinced by any authority figure trying to sell him bullshit.Â
Thad is the one who needs to know all the rules just so he can experience the joy of following them. Relentlessly obedient. He'll put all his effort into doing all the right things thatâll endear him to whoever he wants to impress - meaning heâs the asshole who reminds the teacher about the assigned homework. Bart might be the most popular boy in school, but Thad is a pleasure to have in class.
Like Thad can (and should) still be high-strung and short-tempered and sarcastic and edgy and mean, because he is. But he canât be doing all that without rhyme or reason. Colouring every interaction has to be that one-zero binary of ally or enemy. He needs to have somebody heâs proving himself to: a team heâs on and a team heâs against. Heâs not an inherently rebellious character. He can go up against The Enemy, whoever he deems as such, but it has to be in service of a hypothetical future in which somebody eventually tells him he did a great job.
And in the interest of continuing to beat a dead horse, it connects to their respective upbringings. Thad and Bart were both raised in VR, but Bartâs experience had the side effect of basically hard-wiring him against insecurity. His world was a playground tailor-made for him, and he was never made to feel bad or insufficient about any aspect of himself. His first interaction with a real human person was Iris moving heaven and earth to save him, without him knowing her, without her knowing him, with no reasoning for the act needed beyond Being Her Grandson. Which is probably a significant factor in why Bart moves through the world with frankly atomic levels of autistic swag.
Thadâs VR upbringing installed self-consciousness in his psyche before any other personality trait. As in: he is immediately made conscious of himself and his relationship with everyone he will ever encounter. Heâs told two things: heâs a clone of someone else (inherently derivative, lesser) and that he was made to be superior (a status to achieve). Which is such an instant clarifier for Thadâs everything. Where superiority is a condition that everyone either has, or does not. Itâs the one-zero binary again: are they better than me or am I better than them. Being above others is mandatory, and if his superiority is ever challenged by hard evidence or god forbid nuance Thadâs brain physically cannot take it. He needs to be better, to be worse is unthinkable, and there is no other way to be.
And this status of better or worse is, crucially, not up to Thad to decide. He needs The Authority to validate him. Bart never tries to prove himself because he has nothing to prove. Thadâs entire identity hinges on the self-worth he gets from doing a Good Job.
It is such an inherent part of his motives in the Impulse comics canon, which is why it always feels a little off when heâs interpreted as a jackass indiscriminately.
Like I don't think he needs everyone to like him. But I do think he has either one person or a set of very particular people that he needs to like him. Everyone else is either in that circle or outside of it.
(Which is why Bart is such a great foil for Thad tbh. There is no set of words or behaviors thatâll change Bartâs opinion of Thad, because Bart is unaffected by obedience or charm. So ironically Bart is probably one of few people that Thad doesnât bother to put on even a little bit of an act for.)
While Bart goes with his instincts, his personal beliefs and convictions at all times, Thad is hyper-conscious of big-picture goals. They balance each other out that way. Thad's keeping track of whatever expectations he has placed on him, and how his actions reflect on him and the team beyond short-sighted solutions. He's a team player. AND he's an asshole.
#soapbox#dc#thad thawne#thaddeus thawne#inertia#bart allen#impulse#like he cannot be mean indiscriminately... u must interrogate WHY hes mean and to whom#if hes being raised with Max and Helen he would not intentionally do anything to make their lives more difficult#if hes being raised by Meloni same situation#he needs to be trying to get validation from SOMEWHERE u know#and of course he'll mess up and hurt the people he loves or wants to impress he is a human being#but while that can sometimes be the result#that is never the Goal u kno#not his Core Motivation#i feel like the more i talk about this the less sense im making

Wendolyn "Wendy" Jane
Here's a fic idea that I'll never be able to flesh out because I'm super burned out, but here's my take on a TimKon Clonebaby AU!!
***
So, when Tim was kicked out of the window, he didn't bother to call Kon because he thought the whole encounter he had with him was a hallucination. But, he's calm. And an extra thought he had as he fell was that his and Kon's clone-baby is secured with Martha Kent.
"I can't wait to meet you, Wendy," he says as he falls.
No one catches Tim.
Dick was too late.
Another family member he wasn't fast enough to catch.
***
Kon, Bart, Cassie and the rest of YJ had been devastated when they heard the news. Tim's body was going to be cremated, so chances of him being brought back to life by enemies would be nonexistent.
To comfort himself, Kon walks into the room Wendy had been lightly snoring in.
When Kon came back with Bart, he was surprised to see this baby in Ma's arms, wondering if he actually landed himself in an alternate dimension. But when Ma explained the circumstances of her birth, that Tim tried creating clones of him and Bart to bring them back into his life, Kon gently took the baby into his arms and wept. Then, he went to find Tim.
He didn't think Tim was crazy, but the whole time he was with him, Tim was definitely not in his right mind.
Now, Wendy won't know who her other dad was. Because Tim's gone.
But not completely gone.
Unlike Kon and Bart who left only memories of themselves, Tim left this child. She's not Tim, but she's made with all of his desperation and love.
Kon, after a few hours of mourning, vows to take care of her the best he could.
***
"Pa, why I haf two fiwst names?" Wendy asks one night as she's tucked into bed, after her first day of school. "An' why's my nickname Wendy?"
Kon chuckled. "Your nickname is Wendy because it's the name of my favorite character from my and your daddy's favorite show," he explained, also tucking in her favorite stuffed animal since she was a baby - a chubby, red duck called Mr. Duck. She immediately hugs it close to her and snuggles into its head. Mr. Duck gave out a hearty 'QUACK!' that sounds a lot like Tim's voice.
Kon's heart doesn't ache anymore. Just bursts with love.
Then, picking up the book, 'How to be a Pirate', Kon opens it and flips it to the bookmarked page, a new chapter of when Hiccup and the rest of the Hooligan boys discovers a coffin. This is the 19th time they're reading this book. And it will take 20 more times until they move on to the next book of the How to Train Your Dragon series.
"Your name 'Jane' is from your daddy's mom's name. Her name was 'Janet', and your dad was downright a mama's boy," he continued, causing Wendy to giggle.
"An' Daddy's name's Tim, wight?" she asked.
"Timothy, actually," said Kon. "Timothy Jackson Drake. He has a long name like you. But he likes being called Tim. Just Tim. Not Timmy. Not TJ. And definitely not Timberlina."
Wendy cackles loudly, kicking her legs up and repeating with her lisps Tim's funny 'Timberlina' nickname over and over.
Then, once she's done laughing, Kon starts reading.
The chapter isn't even over and his little girl, his and Tim's little girl, is already asleep.
***
There was a skateboard in the attic. It was right beside this box full of envelopes and journals handwritten by her late Dad, and it had some kind of engine at its base. It also had a whole bunch of scratches on its underside.
It's also one of the most beautiful things 12 years old Wendy had ever seen.
"Pa!" she shouts, running down the stairs to the kitchen, finding Aunt Pru and Aunt Cassie burning down her Pa's stove, like usual. She turns to her Pa who had his head in his hands, most likely trying to calculate how much he needs to buy himself a new stove. "Pa, can we buy me a skateboard?"
Aunt Pru smirks. "Tryin' ta' get cool with the boys, are we?"
Wendy rolls her eyes. Her? Getting cool with the boys? Not a chance. She couldn't fit in with anyone if she tried.
She's heard stories of her dad being able to become friends with anyone, from jocks to nerds. He wasn't popular, but people of all kinds just seem to be able to hang out with him with no trouble.
Not to mention, both of her dads looked unfairly handsome in their teens. It really wasn't fair when the beauty gene doesn't get passed down or genetically inputted into her. Ugh.
But, scratch that!
"Pa! Can we?? Buy a skateboard?"
Pa glanced to his stove. Then to Wendy.
It really wasn't a choice to begin with.
"Sure, I also know someone who could teach you," he said.
***
"YOU ACCIDENTALLY SENT MY DAUGHTER BACK TO THE PAST?!"
Bart rolled his eyes. "It wasn't an accident. She was meant to go for a little time-travel adventure!"
"Of course you'd know that," muttered Kon.
Away from them, Lizzie laughed. "I remember my time-travel adventure!" she said, ignoring Jon's deadpan stare towards her and Damian's completely subtle wince. "I got an A+ on my essay!!"
Kon ignored Lizzie and started pacing the floor. "Our timeline could be changing and we wouldn't even know it!"
"Thank you!" Jon said, throwing his hands up finally feeling validated.
Damian rolled his eyes. "We're fine, aren't we? The universe isn't getting destroyed or fading from existence. Additionally, Allan did mention she was meant to travel back in time."
Bart wiped a fake tear away from his eye. "Thanks, Dames."
Damian scoffed.
On Wendy's side, she was standing right in front of an abandoned warehouse in Paris. Or, to be more specific, an abandoned Lex Corp Cloning Facility.
She clutched the letter in her hand and stepped inside.
'I guess I'm illegally a Parisian,' thought Wendy as she walked through the creepy halls, further down into where the cloning tech could be.
Then, finally, she reached it, the big, green 'ATTEMPT 100 SUCCESS' glaring back at her.
Looking before the railings, she finds a familiar figure. One she's only seen in pictures. But, instead of the strong, smart and confident hero, she sees the most broken and saddest teenager in existence.
"Dad..." she calls, heartbroken.
Her dad's head snap's up, but he slowly stands protectively, clutching the bundle in his arms closer to his chest.
He takes one look at Wendy, and--
He...
He relaxes. He relaxes his hold. His stance. His everything.
He goes up to Wendy, a hand reaching out to gently caress her face.
"You have my mom's eyes," he said.
Wendy smiled back at him. "Yeah," she says, her voice almost a whisper.
"You have Kon's stupid smile, too."
Wendy rolls her eyes. "Pa keeps telling me it's your stupid smile, Dad."
Her Dad laughs. He's almost in disbelief. But.
"How are you here?" he asked.
Wendy opened her mouth, then carefully chose her words. "You left a letter for me. For my sixteenth birthday. I'm not going to get into detail what you wrote in it but, you said it was okay to tell you that you encouraged me to head to the past and--- here I am."
Her dad's brows scrunched together, the same way she saw in stolen pics how her own brows does.
"And you're okay to be in the same... vicinity as... your past self?" he asked.
Wendy nodded her head. "Uncle Damian told me so!"
Her dad laughed, bewildered. "Uncle Damian!?"
Wendy nodded. "He's an ass, but his heart is made of gold." She reached a hand out for her Dad to take. "I have so much family growing up, Dad. I... I have so much to tell you."
Nobody told Wendy how her Dad died. Or when he died. Just that he did.
So, lets her Dad take her to this apartment he rented. It was barely touched, there wasn't even the mess he was known for making. She guesses the mess was down at the clone labs.
But, once the both of them settled down, her dad changed into more comfortable clothing. And. It was almost like looking at a mirror.
Wendy's heart burst with emotion.
From there, they both exchanged stories of their lives until it turned morning.
She watched as how tenderly her Dad held her baby-self with the same love her Pa gave her. She longed for it. But. She couldn't stay any longer. She felt the timer Uncle Bart gave her vibrate in her pocket.
"I have to go back," she said.
Her dad nodded, gently laying her baby self in the middle of the bed. Then, he turned to her with his arms open wide.
Wendy took it. She hugged him back just as tightly.
Then, after a heartfelt goodbye, she left the apartment.
And then, she disappeared home.

Winner of the "đ§Žâ" poll, "be the person you needed when you were younger", aka "YJ accidental baby acquisition". (( chrono || non-chrono ))
âOur kid,â Kon corrects, and hugs Kenley tighter. Kenley loops their arms around his neck mechanically, clearly still not familiar with the process. Bruce is going to see that mechanical body language and see someone whoâs acting, Tim already knows. Not someone whoâs just learning something they werenât taught in development.Â
And they canât, actually, prove that assumption wrong. Not without getting a telepath or a truth spell involved, and even then, wellâKenley was being programmed as much as they were being educated, so who knows what might be in their head to deal with or work around things like that?Â
Bruce might be right, if he thinks Kenleyâs acting.Â
They donât like him or Cassie or Bart. They donât like Superman. They donât like Dick or Vic or Kori. They donât like anyone but the only other clone available, in fact, who just so happens to have one of the strongest possible superpower sets on the planetâone that has been visibly evolving into something stronger and stronger in the public eye for yearsâand also a very well-known affinity and sympathy for other clones, including literal supervillain ones, and also is dedicated to that sympathy up to the point where he has very publicly started shit with the government and other superheroes and the fucking Suicide Squad over it.Â
And if it only took fifteen seconds to make Kenleyâif the security system didnât trigger until specifically Kon was there and close enough to do something about it, even though the team had been clocked as breaking into the lab long before thatâ
Well. Thatâs definitely something that Bruce has thought of by now.
But it would make sense, though, for a newly-produced clone to trust the only other clone available more than anyone else. Especially for a child. Especially for a technical-newborn whoâd met that other clone before anyone else in the world. Especially after that other clone had saved them and carried them out of a burning lab wrapped up in his arms and his jacket and immediately declared them âoursâ and refused to turn them over to government custody or even let the government know they existed. Itâd make sense, for Kenley to trust the person whoâd done all that for them without a single momentâs hesitation and to ask that person for a name and to listen to that person above anyone else.Â
But they also knew to ask for mango.

INCOMING CALL: dick :3
you quickly looked up at bart, very nervous about why dick could be calling. "pick up before it goes to voicemail!" bart panicked.
"relax, there's no way we got caught," you tried to reassure him but your tone was dripping with anxiety.
"hey y/n, turns out barbara's not here. she texted saying she got an alert, is everything okay?" he asked.
this wasn't totally unexpected but nonetheless your heartbeat was speeding up. "oh uh, i can probably go down to the batcave and check?" you offered, hoping he wouldn't take you up on it.
"no that's okay, we're probably just gonna pick up some donuts and head back. they have blueberry icing, you really like that one don't you?" he suggested.
"yeah i do, you're the best," you said. saying that out loud made some of the guilt go away, because it reminded you why you were doing all of this.
"anything for you," he chuckled before hanging up. you were a little worried that your plan was going to lead to them having fights; but then that was sort of the point, wasn't it?
"what now?" bart asked you. you thought about it for a second, you couldn't just cause one small inconvenience and then move on to the next step of the plan. obviously you would need to cause several more for this part of the scheme to actually work.
"i think we should keep this up for at least like another week or so,â you told him. he nodded his head at you a little bit.
âwonât it seem suspicious if the problems just suddenly stop though?â he asked with slight concern.
ânot necessarily,â you said. âif we can make the problems seem subtle enough then it should just seem like they went through a little rough patch.â
âokay yeah, that makes sense,â he said. âbut what exactly are we gonna cause next?â he asked, still not totally clear on the plan. but, to be fair, neither were you as you still hadnât even perfected the plan yet.
âiâm not really sure yet,â you looked down as you thought about it. âoh!â an idea came to you. âshe works at the universityâs library, so we could pose some fake events there and convince her to work extra shifts to help out with it. the more time she spends at the library, the less time sheâll have with dick,â you proposed the idea and he looked at you in thought.
âi mean yeah, i donât see why that wouldnât work,â he said. âwe could also try convincing dick to spend some time going over some extra training with the titans. i know starfire really loves it when he comes back to visit and he seems to enjoy getting to help us out every once in a while.â
âthatâs perfect,â you smiled. âthen it wonât just be babs ditching dick, so it wonât be a ton of negativity just immediately dumped onto them.â you hugged him out of joy, you were so thrilled because it really seemed like things could actually work out and that you could actually get your brother back.
bart loved that you were hugging him, and he couldnât deny that being around you felt just a little bit more special every time. it was clear to him that he was falling for you, but it didnât bother him or freak him out. you had always been so perfect to him, even when he only saw you as a friend. it only made sense to him that he would start to catch romantic feelings for you as well.
however, he could tell that you hadnât caught onto his actual feelings yet. you just assumed that he was a flirt the same way his cousin was before he finally got a girlfriend. and while bart was a bit like wally in some ways, it was different with you and it always would be. the real question to him, however, was how you felt about him. he knew the feelings of closeness and trust were mutual but he wasnât sure you reciprocated the same feelings.
and, in a way, he was right. the same way you hadnât noticed the way that he liked you, you hadnât picked up on the subtle reasons that had led to you acting the way that you did. you werenât sure why you let it slip that you thought he was cute. you werenât sure why you felt bubbly when you tried to think about why you called him cute. you considered the possibility that you liked him, but you werenât sure if you were overreading your emotions or not. that, and you already had so much to worry about with dick that you didnât think you even had the time to really think much into it.
and so, you let it go. as special as bart was to you, you knew that you would have to work that out later. at that moment you had to worry about dick. it was a little heartwarming, however, to think about how you would never have to worry about bart. he would always be there for you, and for that you were so thankful.
âiâm sorry about your time machine,â you brought it up as your tone became faintly sorrowful. âi know going back home means a lot to you.â
âitâs okay,â he said. âthe longer i stay here the more reason i have not to leave.â you didnât know that he was referencing you, and he was maybe a little glad about that. you meant so much to him, that he would rather tease you about relationships as a friend then try one out when it wasnât meant to be and risk everything in the process. as long as he got to be around you, it didnât really matter to him what role he was playing.
his statement filled you with an odd feeling of joy, and still you werenât sure why. âstill, iâm always here for you too.â
then it was his turn to smile, âthank you y/n, that really does mean a lot.â but then his smile became more of a smirk, âso back to when you said âif we ever dateâ..â he trailed off.
you felt flustered, âoh my god you know what i meant!â but there was still that little voice in your head that wanted you to put more thought into it then, rather than later. because, did you know what you meant?â
âiâm just saying, fake dating is such a common trope that your brothers would never suspect it as part of a plan to rewrite the timeline,â he was doing a damn good job at selling you.
âi feel like we might just end up there with the grave iâve been digging for myself,â you warned him. âwhy do you want this so bad? is this your way of secretly getting me to fall madly in love with you,â you joked.
âmaybe it is, maybe it isn't,â he said with a goofy grin. he was so charming, you really were glad that the two of you became friendsâ even if it was under tragic circumstances. âi should probably get going before they all come back, though.â
you nodded, âiâll call you tonight?â he had taken a few steps back but was still looking at you.
âiâm looking forward to it birdie,â he winked, and then he sped off leaving you feeling flustered once again.
