Pt3 of the Danny is the 99th attempted clone Tim made of Kon. Kon learns about Danny.
Relevant info: Kon was dead closer to a year and a half in this au, and this happens a few months after his revival.
[Pt2: here] [Pt4: here]
So Tim has admittedly been putting off meeting up with the Titans. Everyone has settled back into the new normal. Too much has happened for it to look anything like before, but the other 3 Titans have been hanging out semi-regularly, and Tim turns down their invites 3 of 4 times. He knows it's starting to hurt their feelings, and he hates that.
But... he's scared to admit he's a father now. A father to a clone of one of them. He's not sure how to bring it up. Cassie never asked if he was successful, probably just assumed he failed because there isn't a third Superboy flying around. Jokes on her. Danny isn't going to be a Superboy. He's not allowed to even think about being a hero or vigilante until he's 14 at the earliest, and Tim is going to help him find his own name if he chooses that path. He won't be a Robin or Superboy. He won't live in the shadow of those legacies if Tim can help it.
None of that is relevant for the here and now, though. Tim got Jason to babysit Danny and finally agreed to a hang out with the Titans. He asked Danny for his opinion first before making his decision and got the go ahead. So, Tim is finally going to come clean.
Tim barely makes it into the tower when he's tackled by his friends.
"Tim! You're here!" Bart cheers.
"Yeah, it's good to see you guys too. Sorry I haven't been very present." Tim fidgets. "I've been busy... I also haven't been honest..."
"Tim?" Cassie sounds concerned. And Tim just can't. He extracts himself from the puppy pile. He can't make himself give eye contact. He's sure his guilt and shame are written all over his body language.
"Tim, you can tell us anything." Kon sounds super genuine. Tim takes a deep grounding breath.
"Okay, let's do this like a bandaid." Tim finally looks at them, focusing mostly on Kon. "I have a son. He's technically Kon's, too."
He gets the dubious pleasure of watching his three idiots look at his abdomen, as if he gave birth.
"Why-? Kon, we never fucked!? What the fuck guys??" He sputters, waving his hands in front of him.
"Then how-" Cassie realizes. "Oh!"
"Oh?? What do you mean??" Bart is looking between them and vibrating in confusion. Kon is just looking like a confused and concerned puppy.
"Okay, so, I may have had a breakdown with everyone dying or going missing." Tim grimaces. "And while I was fully aware that even if I succeeded, it wouldn't be Kon, I still tried to clone him. And, um, I did manage to succeed in the end."
"Fuck, Tim.." Kon starts.
"Look, I was in a really fucking dark place and needed even just a piece of good I lost." Tim hugs himself, self loathing burning him from the inside out. "Everyone was turning their back on me, I just needed something, anything, to keep going."
"Fuck, I should have helped..." Cassie bites her lip, chewing on her guilty conscious.
"It's fine. No one was listening. Don't beat yourself up over it. You were in a bad spot, too." Tim gives a humorless laugh. "Danny was my 99th attempt. And my last attempt, if I'm honest. I could feel myself breaking more with each failure. On a fucking whim, I decided to make the 99th attempt a baby instead of trying for a teenager, and it worked. I fucked up a bit, I forgot to adjust the knowledge download to that of a 1 year old, but he was alive. He's the best thing to ever happen to me. I was scared to tell you. I'm sorry-"
"Tim.." Kon cuts him off, and Tim snaps his mouth shut. "I.. I'm honestly not sure how to feel about you cloning me, but I'd like to meet him. What's his name?"
Tim rapidly blinks back tears. "Aedan Drake, he prefers being called Danny. I.. I didn't add Kent because I don't trust Clark with him or give him an El name, I wanted him to understand kryptonian language and culture first. I... I also wanted Danny to be old enough to make the decision over his name himself. I don't want him to be treated like you were. The house of El were so awful to you."
"I understand, Tim." Kon steps towards Tim, "Can.. Can I hug you?"
Tim nods and is swept into a tight hug. He feels something give emotionally, and he sobs into his shoulder. "I fucking love him so much."
"Tell me about him." Kon says softly. He can feel Bart and Cassie hoving, unsure what to do, but unwilling to leave.
"He's physically around 3 now. He loves ghosts and space and named the wolf plushy I bought him on his first day alive Wulf." There's some chuckles over that. "He's sassy and petty, but insanely sweet and tries to help out with any and all tasks. I see so much of both of us in him. Nature vs Nurture is a messy bitch. You remember what I said my start as Robin was like?"
"How you had to babysit a grown ass man and force him into better habits?" Cassie snarks.
"Karma's a funny bitch. Danny started doing the same shit to me as soon as he figured out how to walk." Tim giggles. "Anytime we weren't in danger, he'd force me to take care of injuries and to eat and sleep. And I'd do it because what kind of monster denies a baby trying to be helpful... plus he gets really stressed and depressed if he can't help."
Tim grips the back of Kon's shirt. "I don't understand how he developed my people pleaser tendencies so early on. We were stuck on LoA bases when he first started doing everything in his power to help me. I was purposely being a little shit to our "hosts" at the time. So it wasn't a surprise that he developed a Robin's need to troll, but he only saw me be nice to him."
"The LoA??" Kon asks in alarm.
"It was a rough year..." Tim scowls. "And if I see Ra's again, I'm gutting him. B's rules be damned."
"What happened?" Cassie asks, suddenly a lot closer.
"He's a creep, a pedo, and a child abuser." Kon rubs Tim's suddenly very stiff back and shoulders. "I could handle him being creepy towards me. While gross and awful to have a disgusting 300 or something year old man trying to wife me-"
"Excuse me???"
"He WHAT?"
"-I'm more pissed I couldn't protect Danny. I don't know what that piece of shit did when I couldn't take Danny with me, but Danny is linked to the pit now. He luckily doesn't have pit rage like Jason, but he can calm Jason's pit and apparently glows according to Duke." Tim sobs. "I should have killed the man when I had a chance. I don't know what he did to Danny!"
"It's not your fault, Tim." Kon hugs Tim tightly, it's almost painful. "You were in a tough spot and doing your best to keep you both alive."
"Just focus on healing and moving on." Bart says while running a hand through Tim's hair. Cassie rubs both Tim and Kon's backs as Tim gets himself under control.
"Can.. can I meet him?" Kon whispers.
"I'd love for you to meet him." Tim sniffles. "He was nervous you'd hate him for existing. I apparently passed on my stupid anxiety. I couldn't quite get him to believe me when I told him he wouldn't be who you'd be mad at if you got mad. He wants to meet you, but I accidentally made the most jaded baby in the world."
"A Super raised by a Bat is going to be terrifying." Bart giggles. "We'll have to make sure he doesn't become a supervillain."
"Meh. He's too cute. If he goes evil, all he has to do is pout and he'll instantly win." Tim jokes, wiggling out of the hug. "Want to see pictures?"
There's a very strong positive response. The next 3 hours finds Tim showing off pictures and explaining the stories behind them, his team melting at how cute his son is. Tim feels the lightest he's felt in a while. He does have to promise Bart and Cassie to bring Danny over once Kon and Danny meet one on one first.
What Tim doesn't know is Kon is absolutely obsessed with and slightly horny over this parental side of Tim. He's fully daydreaming of the 3 of them living together and being disgustingly domestic the whole time Tim is showing off Danny. Cassie can tell what Kon is thinking about and is amused.
Once Tim leaves, the Titans go to the training room and fuck up some bots because of the rage they feel on Tim and Danny's behalf. They all agree to be as petty as possible to any LoA members they come across and to murder Ra's the moment there's an opportunity to do so without the JL knowing. Tim isn't the only unhinged one on this team. That's why they work so well together.

young, just us?! (again &. again au)
ft. yandere young justice 98 x gn! reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
reblogs and interactions are encouraged and appreciated.
— masterlist !
off-topic, but i've been hyperfixating so much on the young justice (98 vers), that i've been thinking of another timeline where the entire team falls in love with you during one of their trips to the manor. i mean, who wouldn't? they want to know more about your unshakeable, yet warm presence, but they couldn't due to their teammate's indifference towards the first biological child, you.
so someone assertive like cassie slaps some sense into tim drake for his obvious negligence of you whenever you try to talk to him in front of the team, with her harsh tone and squinted glare, just to make it hurt more, that it just leads you finally catching his eyes—
whilst you're unaware of everything happening in the background scene.
cue his interest being piqued regarding you, his obsessive research that spirals into the need to be a constant in your life, and his attempts at bonding with you before it's too late; but with his team of course, because it's now he realizes just how lonely you truly are, with the lack of friends and hobbies only done by yourself, for yourself, in the ghostly manor— whilst all your siblings are out there fighting crime, socializing, with so many adventures that no normal person could comprehend.
tim is familiar with what it's like living in an empty house, before he became robin.
he trusts his teammates, his friends with his life, so it wouldn't be a problem if you were to be acquainted with them; it would be a problem, though, if he soon doesn't quench their thirst to meet with you yet again.
so imagine, one day, you're just out there gardening, humming tunes as always like routine, the next you're being dragged in impulse's arms of all heroes, his hold on you too intimate for a stranger you met once. tim's voice echoes through intangible earphones, lightly threatening the speedster to keep you safe through your fast travel. you're sped from the manor to places unknown, kissed by the air cutting through your body, until you're at their secret cave, surrounded by his teammates, dumbly looking around until a girl rips you away from impulse's arm to hug you tightly.
she acts as a cushion for you to lay your head on, dizzy from the motion enough to make you nearly vomit. but all she does is coo at your swaying head and push her palm on your nape to have you stabilize in hold.
"you okay, sweetie? i swear, if bart got you sick, i'm going to punch him so hard right now."
you're quite unsure how to reply, mind too numb to register the speedster voicing his complaints, or the disgruntled sigh from your brother who shakes his head, commenting under his breath about "keeping affection to a low, for now."
you've never been held this tightly for years, but she beats you through your disoriented tears right after a moment's beat. through your speechless squeaks, she offers you a soft and warm, "welcome, buddy!" her blonde hair glimmers under the light compared to yours.
she calls herself arrowette, suzanne king-jones her personal identity, but insists just as quickly that you call her cissie with your sweet little voice, you nod hazily. everything's happening at a hasty pace that you couldn't even question why nobody's batting an eye at the identity reveal to a civilian, a stranger that is you.
but just as quickly as she introduces herself, your attention is dragged to an all-too familiar, handsome face, his infamous sunglasses resting on his nose, piercings on his eyebrows, and raven sidepart as he shakes your hands and blows you a kiss. a batarang slices through the air and nearly misses his head, you could tell your brother's seething by now.
it doesn't take much for everyone else to introduce themselves after the awkward tension from superboy telling you to call him "baby".
but your mind is still spinning either way, from the daze of impulse's speed, or all the names being thrown into your head, while they all repeatedly shower you with compliments that has you reeling from the foreign domain of affection you've stepped foot on.
just like that, the team takes advantage of your timidness, your eyes plastered on the ground as your face flushes with blazing heat, fighting each other with verbal insults whilst praising themselves in front of you in a battle to assert who's better. it's tim taking your arms and dragging you off to another room that makes for a perfect distraction, apologizing for the sudden intrusion in your life, and how he's willing to make up for the negligence he's caused you from every since he came to the manor— that these people are going to be your new friends.
he says it all so assertively, like he's done his research and the data he's received are all correct, as if he's sure this is the greatest course of action for your life.
the transition from silence to a room filled with chatters, words all directed to you, rather than from a passing glance, their efforts to communicate with someone inept at socializing yet never giving up... well, you couldn't quite comprehend it yet, but tim could see how your face flushes with warmth and the jitters of your fingers from excitement at the implication of new and better... friends.
the taste of the word feeling so distant yet welcomed, he watches the smile slowly plastered on your face and brings his hesitant palms to pat the crown of your head still turned down, tangling his fingers in each strand to ruffle your hair.
it's totally not a way for him to memorize every detail of your being.
"let's, uh... turn our backs away from the past alright, (name)?" he says with an awkward lilt to his voice. you look up through your lashes, and find his pale face incredulously red while his eyes dart around the room. suddenly, you don't feel so trapped right now, and feel yourself giggling at his unsure words and stooping posture.
he panics and gulps, scratching the back of his neck. his eyes still refuse to stare straight at yours.
"— shit, sorry, 'm still not used to this comforting jig, but i'm serious about all this, about making it up to you while it's still early. so, uhm, i hope my friends aren't too... overwhelming for you. they're too excited, that's it."
it's finally at the end of his sentence that his eyes crinkle at the sight of you. you're still standing awkwardly, hesitant to open up yet still willing to make an effort if what he's saying is true.
there's still a shadow of doubt in your head, that this was all a dream, but everything feels so real. his touch feels so real.
it takes a split second for you to reply, still taking in the events that happened to you.
"it's... alright, maybe i'll learn to... forgive you, tim." your whisper sliced through the silent air, breathless, fiddling with your fingers, stepping closer to your brother. he hesitates, but brings his hands to rest on both sides of your shoulder.
his palms eventually made their way to hover on your face, you don't flinch, but you don't bring them closer to you either. it's an air of neutral comfort you're threading on.
"i'm... real grateful that you're willing to put up an effort for me..." it's as if you couldn't fathom that someone so talented, so important as tim drake could notice you and even apologize wholly without excuses. it doesn't take away the years, all the times he turned his back on you, and even mistakenly calling out the wrong name and flat out ignoring you, but if someone like him was willing to try— to even go as far as to have his friends become your friends.
well... who's to say you could deny the slight flutter in your chest at the sweet gestures?
it was you who initiated the hug, burying your head in his slumped shoulders, tears dampening his costume. your brother pats your back, and awkwardly cradles your body in the silent expanse of the room.
you don't feel the haste of his heartbeats, nor the goosebumps pervading his skin.
"thank you..." you mutter, relinquishing the fear that this was all a sick prank your mind has put you through, and embrace the sounds of the door suddenly slamming while your head still rests on the crook of your brother's neck, giggling through tears from bart's high-pitched squeals, the ghostly sounds of greta's overdramatic gasps and cassie's complaints of tim taking all your attention for himself.
from there on out, your presence kind of becomes a staple for the chaotic atmosphere of the team, a voice of reason whenever tim or cassie is too unhinged to deal with the others, they always kept their arguments light for the sake of your happiness. they like to treat you, finding your praises for each individual refreshing and sweet. you're unaware of just how much they truly loved you from the moment their eyes laid on the shadows of your form in the manor.
and you'd rather it stay that way, too invested in the never flitting feeling of being loved.
there's a saying, ignorance is bliss. you're in a state of happiness because this was the first time you had spent your time with someone you could call your brother. you had friends, welcoming from the start, unafraid to display their affection for you. hugs, cuddle piles, pats on your head, kisses on your cheeks, a target for kon's adorable flirting, bart's endless mumblings, even sitting beside your brother is enjoyable as he sifts through the big monitors in front of you, because at least now there's a hand you could fiddle with every time you become too bored.
how could you want to leave them after all this?
at least, in this timeline, you've willingly stepped into your own cage.
Tumblr media
a/n: i'm this 🤏 close to disappearing off of tumblr for a year or two again because of my writer's block despite me posting more and more lately. the lack of motivation to write, and forcing yourself to write out the ideas you have in your head bec you're afraid of forgetting is such a shitty feeling. i'm on the verge of a hiatus, my imposter syndrome is at an all time high and i feel as if my writing has been lacking lately. so apologies, i might just quit if i can't get rid of this feeling. otherwise, i think we need more young justice (not the tv show) content, they're like my favorite hero team. i don't know what to feel about this drabble.

How is Conner as your boyfriend?
Content you’ll see here: Gn!reader, 90’s Conner Kent, nsfw
English it’s not my first language so please be patient
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let me tell you something, everyone thinks Conner is the fuck boy who doesn’t care about you and would only want you for a night, he isn’t.
I see this man having to develop a deep relation with someone for him to let his guard down
Like seriously, Conner is someone with a big ego but at the same time he’s a insecure boy so you have to wait for him to stop his whole act.
He’s a yearner, a hopeless romantic even if he doesn’t show it much.
His love language? Words of affection, but not the “u r pretty” nah, this man is giving you nice words about how smart you are, do you care about strength? He’s pointing it out every time he has the chance, you work out? He’s already telling you how good you do, seriously, he would tell you he wouldn’t take you in a fight even if he can.
That means he enjoys when his partner tells him something nice, his appearance is fine, he would accept being called handsome with a big smile
He also enjoys to give his partner gifts or do something from them, I can see him giving you a rock from another country only because you said you liked the culture
I know what you are thinking, yes, he loves your touch, I see him having a hand on you all the time, either holding yours or hugging your shoulders.
I don’t see him caring about your appearance, maybe he loves a partner that can fit on his arms but if you don’t, he would be more than happy to fit in your arms!
He doesn’t forgive anything, older? Hell yeah, he loves it, younger? That’s his little cutie pie! Feminine? He’s drooling for your delicate figure, masculine? He is holding you tightly so you can’t see how his heart is beating faster than ever.
Speaking of heartbeat, he has yours memorized by now, not in the weird way
It happened one night, he’s paying attention to you even if he’s away and suddenly he started tapping his feet at the rhythm of your heartbeat
You know what that implies, if your heart is going faster than before he would text you to see if you are okay, you don’t answer? He’s flying to you,
I see him cuddling, he’s a yearner so when he’s feeling too tired he’s laying his head on your chest, hearing your heartbeat like it’s his drug
You need put your hands on his ears, oh god how you need to do it, that’s literally being trapped on his favorite sound over and over again.
He texts you, so much you are surprised when the new notification isn’t a text from him
He would send you pics of whatever he is doing, he’s fighting crime? That’s a selfie of him with a criminal. He also sends you pictures of the sky wherever he is always with “it’s beautiful like you <3”
Speaking of pics, he is active on social media, he has a instagram profile where he used to post photos of him but once he started dating you that became your profile
His pfp? A childhood photo of you, every highlight are photos or dates with you or just you looking cute
He does post selfies or photos of him, he likes doing it but every since, there is a small text mentioning you like “Damn, does (Reader) eat all this?” Or “ready to marry (Reader)”
You are private, well, that is what he says but at this point everyone knows he is your man, he would be mad if someone doesn’t know it!
His friends started to joke how dumb if for you, and him? He nods with a smile, Tim once asked him if he would put a collar for you and he accepted it with a smile.
He is a good boy, he does it for you, I’m not lying
He would be play fighting with Bart and he would absolutely stop if you are around.
I see him calling you his woman/man, like, “my woman/man and I went to this place” he isn’t ashamed, why doesn’t he call you his girl/boy? Damn no, that would mean he just wants you for a moment, he wants you for eternity.
He is the type of boyfriend that shivers whenever you call him “Conner” don’t get him wrong, he enjoys when you call him but it’s usually “love” or “Kon” but his full name? God no, that’s not him.
NSFW minors do not interact
Don’t mind me but this man doesn’t fuck you, he does love, seriously, it’s almost disgusting how his voice changed when he tells you to “make love”
You see him as a fuck boy, he is not, he can be with whoever he wants but you are the only person he would hug and kiss
He hugs you, he does, he can’t do it if he isn’t touching you in a intimate way, at least he needs to be holding your hand or he is stopping everything.
I see him telling you how cute you look and how good you are for him, if he isn’t telling you sweet words that is not him.
You know that moment where he is so close he can’t think? He’s whispering “I love you” like a mantra.
He doesn’t see sex as a important thing, he used to have a lot of partners before you but if you don’t bring the topic he wouldn’t even know he is in celibate for you
But if you are active, damn that man is on his knees for just a little of you.
He fucks until he is dumb, when he can only remember your name and no more, that’s when he knows he did good

Perpeptual
Some of Young justice are teleported/isekai'd during one of their battles to an underdeveloped world barely out of the iron age.
The planet confuses them, perpeptual night but the climate is warm and the flora abundant regardless of the missing sunlight. It has a single yellowy green moon that is stuck in orbit at the same point in the sky as the stars move around it.
Some of the locals have accepted them into their small village, their language is close to spanish; esperanto Wally says. Atleast they can somewhat communicate now. The people are unsettingly human with only slight changes to their body; lighter skin, pointed ears and glowing eyes.
They spend a little over two weeks helping the locals with their building some kind of stage for a festival. A large corridor of metal, spires of green crystal that Connor says make him woozy on top of his already low solar energy from the weeks stranded here and thick braided cord wound around the bases of the spires and inlayed into an intricate pattern winding their way to the corridor of metal.
The chief, Degelinta Stellumo, is happy to say the festival can begin early. When asked about the festival they cant translate much other than it's to thank their god for keeping them safe. About how thousands of years ago the day god Rox tried to consume their world, the night god Phan covered their world in protective night to protect it from Rox's anger.
The team is perplexed as the festivities begin, rhythmic chanting fills the air as one of their young men, that Megan recognizes as Stelo, walks forward dressed in furs and a iron crown upong their head. He steps into the corridor, the crystals glow brightening as he does so, almost alive in the perpeptual moonlight and the chanting getting faster and faster. Duh-duh-duh-duh-da-duh-duh-da-duh-da~.
There is a massive flare of light coming from the corridor, the crystals shatter and fly everywhere and the people cheer. Stelo steps, no floats from the now blackened corridor changed; his body glows in a pale white light, hair once black now pure white while his eyes are toxic green from his previously white and a cloak of stars floats behind him in an invisible wind.
He looks around confused, tired, until his eyes settle on the young superheroes going from Connor's house of El crest to Miss Martians skin to Robins stylized R.
Everyone is shocked as the being speaks to them in echoy but clear english, "You lot are a long ways from home, arent you?"
"Uhm, yes... sir," Tim hesitantly asks hesitantly unsure how to address this being? God? Entity?
"Right, well not to belittle your situation but we're holding up the festivities I'm certain the Sheo'lp people have been working on for some time. Let us celebrate a bit then we can talk about your situation."
"What are you," Megan blurts out, confused, "Stelo stepped into that corridor and his mind is gone and now theres just static."
"I suppose i can answer that easily enough. My name was/is Danny and I dont know what I am anymore. Once the festival ends, Stelo will return to himself. I promise."
The now named Danny stops floating and walks over to the tribespeople, stopping to hug and greet everyone by name and accepting food and drink happily. He cries as he eats the food and drink, thanking the people in esperanto repeatedly as he does so, this goes on for several hours before the partying starts to die down and Danny takes the group over to a dying bonfire.
"Right, I suppose you have questions but I would like some verification."
"Verification?"
"Yup, just need to know if you are who I think you are. It's been forever since I've been around earth but you look familiar.
He points at Miss Martian, "M'gann M'orzz?"
Pointing to kid flash, "Bart? No... Wally West."
Points to Robin, "Damian Wayne."
Points to Superboy, "and that would make you Jon Kent."
They partially confused, partial perturbed that this entity knows some of their names. Tim looks him square in the eyes, studying him, thinking about protocols for what to do when a godlike entity just namedrops your baby brother like its no big deal.
"Its just Robin as I am," Tim says, eyes never leaving Danny's.
"Shit right, apologies I forgot about superhero 101, no names. Its been a while since I had to worry about names, time is blurry these days to me. Now! What about those questions?"
"Can you get us home," Tim asks straight forwardedly. "We've been missing from earth for a few weeks now."
"Sure," he says nonchalantly, surprising the team, "Well yes and no. *I* can get you home but I know something who can but you need to Promise me that you'll follow my directions once you go home. Deal?" He holds out his hand to Tim, who looks at it before shaking it.
"So long as it doesnt endanger those i care about then Deal."
Danny nods before taking a deep breath and holding out a hand, a small crack running through the seam of reality as green light fills the area, from the crack a scroll flies through at high speeds as he catches it. "Hello old friend," he says tiredly, seeming to have dimmed greatly from that stunt.
"A scroll," Connor asks incredulously.
"A map," Danny corrects, "of everything. Take hold of each other before taking the Map, once you do take the map and say where you want to go." He looks at connor briefly, "it wont be a pleasant trip for Jon but it is nessesary for you to get home. Hopefully this trip should innoculate your biology against ecton radiation."
"Wait radiation," wally yelps.
"Its harmless to humans, mostly. Its the fastest way to get back to Earth, youre on the other side of the universe kids. Now, once you're back on earth tell the Map to return home and let go. So take the map, i need to go speak to the chief for a bit. Thank you for being here and letting me help." Danny groans as he slowly gets up and walks over to the chief's tent.
"Do you think he's okay," Megan asks the group as Tim looks the rolled up map over.
Connor watches as Danny leaves, "He's low on energy. Like how Kryptonians are without yellow sunlight."
"Unfortunately we cant focus that right now, grab hands its time to go." They each take the others hand as Tim holds up the map, "take us to the Justice Leagues Watchtower on Earth." The map unfurls as a blue energy grows over the group as they begin floating and the scroll begins to drag them across the sky, a similar crack as before opens before them and swallows them up and the next couple of seconds are filled with blurred visions of vast green voids, purple doors and massive beasts lurking in the distance, the eyes following the team as the fly past.
As quickly as it began its over as a final crack tosses them out at a fast speed into the Justice Leagues cafeteria, scattering on impact and flinging food everywhere as the security systems begin to screech as the team sigh in relief.
"We're home..."

"So you mean to tell us you've been trapped on another planet for all this time," Barry asks as the members of young justice sit at the conference table with the other adult members of the justice league.
"Yes sir."
Batman is pensive as hes thinking, "and this entity called you by your names?"
"Mostly, he thought Kon el and I were our younger counterparts."
"Hnn."
Kid Flash leans over to Megan and whispers, "that's bat for I dont like this." Barry cuffs him over the head.
"So should I return the map to Danny?"
"Did someone say my name," a chipper young voice says as he sticks his head through the table, familiar glowing green eyes and white hair who freezes at the sight of the map, "how do you have that? B What's going on?"
"The young justice team has been stranded on a distant planet for several weeks, they just got back with the help of this artifact. Do you recognise it?"
"Course I do, don't know how you have it because its supposed to be with FB in the zone."
"Wait a second," megan exclaims, suddenly recognizing the static she was getting from him "You're Danny! What happened to Stelo?"
"Who?" That takes the wind out of her sails, "oh... i get whats going on here. Classic time travel, don't tell me anything. If you have the map then FB or I gave it to you for a reason. You should send it back."
"Do as he says Robin," Batman says nodding in understanding.
Tim takes the map in his hand, "go back home, uh... map?" He drops it as it unfurls and zooms off through another green crack. "What's all this about?"
"Dunno," Danny says as he leans back as he floats through the table, "hasn't happened yet."

Little more detail on what happened between the gods in the Sheo'lp's tale. Their sun was going supernova and Phantom in a last ditch effort to save the planet wrapped his being around the planet as the sun exploded around them. His ice core cooling the suns now explosive heat, his body giving them stars to look at and his core to give them light. Their planet is essentially a terrarium surrounded by a critical nuclear reactor. Due to time dialation from earth to there hes been holding back the sun for over a thousands of years by the point YJ arrive.
The festival is a recreation of the fenton portal that they offer one of their own for Phantom to overshadow to partake in their food and drink as thanks. Once he runs out of energy from the crystals his overshadow breaks and he returns to his duty leaving the host with memories to later become the chief and lead their people with their knowledge.

i think there's an act for thinking that the batkids lie, making up stories all because Dick told the Teen Titans when they were kids that Bruce Wayne is Batman. so when they tell the truth, the others think they are straight up lying.
Dick: Little Wing is back! He's Red Hood.
Donna: Here we go again.
Gar: Nice one, Dick. But nah.
Wally, pouts and hugs him: Hey, I know you miss your brother. It's okay, Dick.
Dick returns the hug regardless.
Roy: Nah, cus Red Hood is built like a brick. By the way, I have to say it, he's hot as fuck.
Dick: Heyy, that's my brother you're talking about!
Donna: The last time we saw Jason, he was tiny and so adorable.
Raven: And he wasn't violent at all.
Dick, whines: I know but trust me, Red Hood is Jason.
Kory touches Dick's forehead to check if he has a fever after he hit his head during a mission.
---
Jason: I'm living with Roy and I'm going to adopt Lian.
Artemis: Really? The Big, Bad Red Hood?
Bizarro: You and Roy? You adopting little girl?
Kory shakes her head, patting Jason's head.
Jason: Why are you all looking at me like I'm making up bullshit?
Roy: We're getting married, live with it!
---
Tim: I'm missing my spleen.
Cassie: That's crap!
Bart: Ha, not funny, Rob. That's not crash.
Kon: Really? How come you're alive then?
Tim, rolls his eyes: Cus it's just my spleen.
Cassie, Bart and Kon look at each other and laugh.
Cassie: Reminds me of that time when you told us you're straight.
Kon: That was funnier though.
---
Cass: I killed.
Steph stops eating.
Babs stops typing on her computer.
Steph: We're waiting for the punch line, babe.
Cass: Not a joke.
Steph and Babs exchange looks, before shrugging and continuing their tasks.
Steph: I could kiss you right now, but I'll do it after I'm eating.
Cass rolls her eyes, but she's smiling.
---
Duke: I'm a meta.
Daxton: Whaaat?
Duke: You heard me.
Izzy: How come you never told me about this?
Riko: Cus he's obviously lying.
Izzy: Besides, doesn't Batman only have human kids or?
Duke: Doesn't mean me being a meta isn't true.
Daxton: Uh, anyways... Let's get some burgers!
Duke is getting ready to show his powers, when Izzy holds his hand and he just shuts up on cue.
---
Damian: I'm gonna call my dragon bat.
Jon: DRAGON BAT????
Damian: We need back up. And he's the best one.
Jon: Why didn't you tell me you have a dragon bat???
Damian tts.
Jon: Don't tell me you have a dragon rat too.
Damian: Do they exist is the question.
Jon: You're so funny, Dames.
Damian: I wasn't telling a joke, Jonathan.

The clock ticks loudly in the empty apartment, but that is how Bart wants it to be.
Tic... tok.... tic... it stops.
"Took you long enough," Bart spoke into the darkness, a smile on his lips as he gave the other time to shift to a form that wouldn't blind him, "Was worried you got lost." he teased, earning a tongue click from the divine being, "Cute. Real cute." Bart heard the man plop down beside him on his bed. "It's safe now." His eyes flutter open, getting used to the dark, and he sees him in the dim glow.
Kon smiled at him with those pointy fangs, "Hi." Bart couldn't help but rush in for a hug, which was accepted instantly.
"Whoa there, bun. You're going to throw us off the bed." He laughed, and the human raised his head to pinch his lover's cheeks. You dummy, six weeks! I have my rights." the glare held no heat. How could it?
His angel (with so many disorders pfft) was back!
Big black wings encase them, "Yeah, yeah, Jon and Damian had a meeting, they... killed someone Dick loved and need to find him. Like, all hands on deck. I am on Earth duty and alllll yours." Kon nuzzles the wild mess of hair of his lover, "Wonderful!"
"What did you say someone killed Wally-"

Idk if I’ll ever write this but I love the fics where one of the robins is brought to the future to see the modern fam but often times they don’t get to meet the adult version of themselves so this is what I think that would look like for them.
Let’s put Damian at about 14 here so it’s a fresh from the league, maybe a few months into living with Dick as Batman. He is enraged to find his older self so soft. He wastes his time on pointless things like painting, animals, and video games. (No he is not jealous, he is disgusted by how happy and relaxed he looks in the future, of course)
I imagine Tim’s mini popping up when he’s around his team. Cassie, Bart and Kon can’t stop gushing about how cute the baby Robin is. Red Robin Tim is trying to talk baby Tim out of a panic, because where is Batman? Why isn’t he with him? Who are these teenagers who keep trying to hug him and make comments about his bowl cut? (He can’t believe how self assured his older self is, or how comfortable he is with receiving attention. Or how obviously loved he becomes)
Steph’s Robin sees the spoiler costume and asks if they’re back to working on their own again. Steph smiles sadly and makes the kid a plate of waffles and tells her that she doesn’t need to be one of Bruce’s adoptees to be one of his kids. (She is a part of the family. Tiny Robin Steph is amazed by the confidence she injects into the words. They don’t sound like a mask anymore)
Jason Todd’s Robin finds himself in a dark living room at night. It’s clean and decorated. A little girl walks through holding a cup of water, she can’t be too much younger than he is. Lian sees him and calls for her dad(s- she hasn’t called Jason her dad yet but she considers him her other parent). Once both Jason’s figure out who the other is, both have very different internal monologues. Bitty jay is shocked by how domestic he gets to live, he gets to have a loving family and a home with a big bookcase, warm blankets and a full kitchen. (Older Jason is suddenly terrified because he does not remember being that tiny when he was that age. Lian is a couple years younger and they’re the same size.)
Dick Grayson sees his older self and thinks he went back in time. Why? Because that man looks like his Tati who is dead. It’s a heartbreaking realization for Dick who, despite having pictures of his parents, had no idea he looked so much like John Grayson. (It’s a difficult conversation, to explain to a child who just wants to see their dad one more time that you aren’t him)

It would be funny if even if reader didn't like her family she loved their friends
(Sorry I'm late; I've been under the weather, but I'm feeling a little better.)
Reade loves to hang out with the Batfamily's friends, whether it's their hero persona or just regular hanging out, and this makes the Batfam super jealous—like, super jealous! It's just not fair, you know? Bart can give you a hug, but Tim can't. That's just crazy! You'll let Wally carry you on his back, but not Dick? That's so unfair! You give Jon head pats but then ignore Damian? What is this, treason? He is clearly superior to the farm boy. Let Clark make you laugh, but you won't even let Bruce get within six feet of you, and Jason will never invite Roy to the manor again because you always run to him if you need a player two. I mean, Jason is right there!

I feel like whether Tim is on some level suicidal in RR #12 is very open to interpretation, which is part of what makes it fascinating!
because Tim's homecoming to Gotham is the culmination of an upward/self-actualization arc, after struggling through multiple low points/depression/an extended breakdown.
he finally got proof Bruce is alive. managed to claw Tam and himself out of the Cradle and away from the Council of Spiders/LoA by the skin of their teeth. thumbed his nose at Ra's and reaffirmed his own principles by blowing up all the LoA servers. finally kind of processed that Kon and Bart are both alive again - he just tackle-hugged Kon in RR #9 and told him, "when you found me in Paris, I was in a bad place. Now... Now I'm in a good place." he's full of renewed purpose and the realization that he doesn't, in fact, have to do things alone! (team-up Robin ftw!)
so probably not actively suicidal
but then in all of his frantic calculations to thwart Ra's and save each and every person Bruce loved - he doesn't factor himself in. he doesn't put himself on that list of loved ones and set up a contingency for preserving his own life (wtf Tim).
or does he??? that's where the ambiguity comes in for me, because we don't actually see him discussing the full details of his plan with anyone. and he doesn't mention it in his internal narration, either! because his internal narration is always super reliable..... hmmm.....
we know that Dick isn't aware of any other contingencies, or indeed the full details of the plot they were thwarting - after catching Tim, Dick has to ask him, "You want to tell me what that was all about?" and of course "How did you know I'd be there to save you?"
and as I've mentioned before, I don't think Tim had actually planned for Dick to save him, so his "You're my brother, Dick. You'll always be there for me," response is uh, both loving BS and a "genuinely felt expression of retrospective faith", as Silver put it (and which has been stuck in my mind in glowing cursive letters ever since, lol).
but. we do know that as part of his plan to thwart Ra's ninja-assassinate-Bruce's-loved-ones plot, Tim calls all three of his best friends into Gotham. (among all his other rallied allies.) his best friends who are various combinations of flight and/or superspeed capable. and who had each just smugly patched in via comm to confirm that their protection jobs were all successful, meaning Tim knew they were available if he potentially needed them.
the fact that the rest of the Core Four then twiddle their thumbs and let Tim keep fighting Ra's on his own after confirming Alfred/Selina/Barbara are safe, instead of zipping over to have his back (ie punch the jackass through a wall) almost has to be because of: (a) Tim's plan to deliberately stall so Lucius could file the WE paperwork (on the Watsonian level), (b) Yost allowing Tim to have his Final Showdown with the villain of the arc on his own, and also (c) Yost setting up the emotional climax/reconciliation of Dick catching Tim (both on the Doylist level).
like, Tim stalls Ra's for long enough that Dick is able to glide and grapple his way over from his own ninja-busting detail, we don't think the speedster or the Superboy could have gotten there in time?
Dick is the one who caught Tim because it was thematic, it's a motif in their relationship and the resolution of their 12-issue arc, and don't get me wrong I wouldn't change that moment for anything - but! he wasn't the only one around who could have done so.
and Iiiiii have to suspect Tim would know that? there's ambiguity and room for interpretation, of course, especially since Tim doesn't say anything at all or call out to anyone as he's actually falling.
but also. Kryptonian superhearing? Tim's comm which could very well still be connected? could he have been relying on allies listening/clue-ing in, whether or not he actually explicitly sketched out a back-up plan with anyone to come back him up, after Lucius was done transferring WE? all according to (dumbass improvised) keikaku??
idk! seems plausible to me, but it's all so open to interpretation, it makes my brain go BRRRRRR 😊 like you can make a compelling case/headcanon/fic any way you look at it!
anyway. Dick catching Tim is very much The Moment Ever Of All Time <3 but also the thought of Kon just hovering at the ready to grab Rob but spotting Dick!Bats swooping in and being like ":))) oh ok. they both need this." is v. hilarious to me

yj gets packed up!!!! red tornado you comfort that boy right now 😭😭😭😭
“‘zie?” he mumbles, then yawns into the folded-up pillow he’s . . . hugging, apparently, okay. He doesn’t remember doing that. It smells good too, though. He thinks it’s–oh, yeah, it’s Cassie’s shirt. And . . . also Cissie’s towel. And also Bart’s weird cowboy outfit, and a couple of Robin’s scent blockers. Not Suzie’s blanket, though–he ended up rolling that up into a pillow too, actually, ‘cuz he didn’t wanna bury it under all the blankets Red Tornado brought him, but that one his head’s on.
Oh. Hm. He guesses he pretty much was just hugging all of their stuff, wasn’t he. That’s . . .
“Um–hello, Superboy!” Suzie greets, smiling brightly down at him. “Red Tornado called me! He said you needed company! Everything in here smells so good, oh my goodness. Like bubbly sugar. Is this another boy thing?”

trick or treat!
treat! (aka a snippet fic i ended up writing on the bus about tim asking yj for advice re: the huntress/nightwing/oracle situation)
“So, wait, Nightwing is dating Huntress?” asks Cassie.
“I don’t know what they’re doing!” Tim replies. “That’s half the problem.”
“And do we like Huntress?” asks Cissie.
“Yes—no—it’s complicated,” Tim replies. He’s doing a lot of replying and he doesn’t entirely like it—more out of an instinctual avoidance of being on the interrogatee side of an interrogation than anything else—but he had been the one to ask for advice. Which, in hindsight, may have been a mistake, but it’s one he’s now committed to. “I do like her. But she struggles with following Batman’s rules. I mean, we all do, but she struggles with the no killing aspect of it specifically.”
“But has she, like, actually killed anyone?” Kon asks. He’s floating in the air, cross-legged, with one of Cassie’s pillows hugged to his chest. It’s kind of cute—especially with his oversized Superman t-shirt, because, thankfully, he doesn’t actually sleep in his costume.
Not that Tim would ever say it’s cute out loud.
“No, not since we started working together properly.”
Kon shrugs. “Then I don’t see the problem? Yeah, it’s majorly screwed that she’s killed but it also sounds like she’s changed." Tim might be imagining it, but he almost sounds wistful? "And being able to stand up to the bat seems like a point in her favour more than anything.” He pauses. “Plus, based on the picture you have of her, she’s a total babe.”
Tim just knew visual aids would be a mistake. This is on him for not being able to resist a corkboard. Cassie, acting on behalf of the team, throws a pillow at Kon. It does smack him in the face—he still needs to practice his catches—but before it can fall to the ground his TTK catches it and now he’s hugging two pillows and maybe that backfired slightly.
Tim puts his corkboard face-down on principle. Huntress probably doesn’t even know he has the photo—her foot in the middle of kicking a bad guy’s face, her fist breaking the jaw of another. He doesn’t have much time for photography anymore, but sometimes he just itches to go out and capture Gotham and its heroes.  The photo of Nightwing, meanwhile, is him shoving his face full of pizza, a hand reaching out to try, in vain, to block the camera lens.
Oracle, of course, is represented by her icon. He still hasn’t started thinking of her as Barbara.
“It’s not all about looks,” says Cassie. “Even if she is really hot.” She pauses. “Like, really hot.”
“Okay!” interrupts Tim. “That’s enough of that.” He did not need his friends calling his co-worker hot.
“Yeah, it really doesn’t matter,” agrees Cissie, and of course he can count on her to have his back. “Especially since Nightwing is way hotter than her.”
A part of Tim dies inside. Just shrivels up and expires, there and then.
“Okay, but Nightwing is hotter than, like, everyone,” points out Kon. That part of Tim is currently being cremated. “And cooler, and more badass. Or whatever.”
“Most documentaries on 20th-21st century heroes talk about Nightwing’s attractiveness at least once,” says Bart offhandedly from the corner where he’s playing Polyp-mon. It’s one of his first contributions to the conversation. The part of Tim that died earlier is now having a funeral held in its honour. Suzie, at least, is still absorbed in the game. She’s spent the conversation peering over Bart’s shoulder, occasionally asking him to catch a specific polyp-mon. Though he doubts her additions would be worse than what is currently passing for advice.
“Guys, please,” Tim says, desperately trying to course-correct the conversation. God, it’s so much worse having them talk about how hot this co-worker is. “Stay focused on the problem.”
“Is that you like Oracle more?” asks Cissie.
Tim hesitates. Oracle is one of the most impressive people he knows, and getting to actually spend time with her—especially when it’s her teaching him about tech—is awesome, and she’s saved his life more times than he count or probably even knows about. But he’s only known her face-to-face for a short time, while he’s been fighting side-by-side with Huntress almost as long as he’s been acting properly as Robin.
“That’s not what’s important,” he deflects. “What’s important is what’s best for Nightwing.”
“Right,” says Cissie.
“What if they all just dated each other?” asks Bart
“You can do that?” asks Kon, at the same time as Tim says, “I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t fix it. In fact, I’m pretty sure that would make it worse.”
The silence stretches.
“Well, good luck with that!” declares Cassie. “Now, who wants to watch Xena?”
Tim sighs, but let’s the hang-out move on. What’s happening with Nightwing, Huntress and Oracle is such a mess that there’s no way a bunch of teenagers are going to be able to untangle it, especially when most of them don’t have much experience in romance or life or both. Tim certainly doesn’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to having non-messy relationships. He’s sure Dick will figure it out. Eventually.
Kon floats down next to him as Cassie and Cissie go looking for the VHS, with that grin on his face that Tim just knows means he’s come up with some terrible joke. “Look on the brightside! When the divorce happens, you’ll have not one, not two, but three Christmases. Not four, because I’m pretty sure Batman doesn’t celebrate, but three is still pretty good.”
“Yay,” says Tim, voice as flat as he can make it.

Nonna Rosa fixes it
[Now on AO3!] Okayyy, it's officially not the weekend anymore, but only for like five minutes, so technically I'm on time! This got totally away from me, and I had to actually force myself to end it where I did. Nonna Rosa took the narrative from my hands and said 'I'll take it from here', and good for her. Not to be dramatic but I love her. Anyway, if any Italian-speaking people read this: I AM SO SORRY. This is all Collins dictionary or Google Translate, I don't speak a word of Italian and I'll be very glad to correct any mistakes you might notice ♥ I hope you guys enjoy it! if you want to know more about Nonna Rosa, send me an ask, I have looots of headcanons for her (and Tommy's childhood). Here you go:
A week after breaking up with Evan, Tommy is still feeling like shit. He can barely sleep, anything he tries to eat tastes like sawdust, and he feels like he’s living on autopilot. He goes to work, he comes back home, he tries to eat, he tries to sleep, rinse and repeat. Nothing else matters, there’s nothing else he feels like doing. He doesn’t answer Howie’s texts asking how he’s doing (he answered the first one, telling Howie not to worry about him, but can’t do more than that); he completely ignores Eddie’s invitation for Muay Thai and basketball, and he comes up with an excuse as to why he can’t make karaoke bar that Thursday. And yet, there’s one thing he can’t put off, as much as he wishes to: talking to his Nonna.
Tommy calls his grandmother at least once a week; she still lives in Indiana, in the same house he spent most of his childhood in, and he knows his uncle Bart visits often. But he likes to hear from her himself. Visiting her was a rare occasion, and the last time he was able to was about four months ago. The minute he had stepped in, Nonna had asked him if he was ‘innamorato’, because he was looking so much happier than usual.
And he knows she’ll perceive his sadness just as quick, if not quicker. The woman has always been able to read him like an open book. She’s probably the only person alive who can; he’s always made sure to keep his layers hidden from everyone else, even from…
Well. Doesn’t matter now, does it?
Fact is, that if he misses his call with Nonna, it’ll be even worse. She’ll know something’s up, and he doesn’t put past her to fly across the country to check on him (he’s always been the favorite grandson and everyone knows it). So it’s best to get it over with. With a heavy sigh, he sits down on his couch (and tries not to think about how empty it feels when it’s just him in there) and rings her up, bracing himself.
“Pronto? Tommasino?” She answers the call, as always with the camera too close to her face, and that at least brings a smile to his face.
“Nonna, you need to stretch your arm a little. Remember, like Charlie showed you?” He asks with a chuckle; Charlie being his cousin’s daughter, Charlotte, who taught Nonna how to FaceTime so she could ‘see Tommasino’s pretty face more often’, in her own words.
She stretches her arm and Tommy gets a good look at her. Nonna looks the same as always, sharp blue eyes in a soft face that’s wrinkled both from age and from a lifetime of smiles. Her hair is wrapped in hair rollers and tucked safely behind a red bandana. Tommy misses her fiercely, and wishes more than ever that he could get wrapped in one of her hugs.
They always did wonders for him when he was a little boy who used to climb trees and get scrapes and bruises; when he was a scared eleven-year-old missing his mother (and as a grown-up he can appreciate Nonna was hurting at least as much as him, having lost her daughter, but still never let it show) and dealing with an angry abusive father; when he was a scared eighteen-year-old, before leaving the only home he’d ever known to join the Army. And when he was a scared 33-year-old man, coming out as gay to his 75 year-old-grandmother, afraid of being rejected by the one person alive who truly loved him, and Nonna had stood on her tiptoes, pulled him into one of those hugs, and told him all she ever wanted for Tommy was to see him happy, and that she would always love him.
A hug from his grandmother had always made Tommy feel like the world was an easier place to be faced, and right now, that’s exactly what he needs. And his longing must show in his face, because she’s frowning at him, her eyes full of concern.
“Oh, Tommasino” She says softly. “What’s wrong, bambino mio? You look so sad” She asks, and to Tommy’s horror, he finds his eyes filling up. Nonna has that way of bringing out every emotion he tries to repress.
“Everything’s wrong, Nonna, and it’s all my fault” He blurts out before he can stop himself, and the look on his grandmother’s face tells Tommy she’d be placing a sizable plate of cake and a cup of strong coffee in front of him if she could.
“You have a habit of saying things are your fault even when they aren't, so I'm afraid I'll need the entire story, my boy” She says gently, and Tommy watches as she sits down by her kitchen table (the same kitchen table where he did most of his school homework, the same kitchen table from where he always used to steal a biscotti while they were still warm), supporting her face in her hand and turning those sharp blue eyes at the phone screen. Tommy swears he can feel them pierce through his very soul. “What happened? Is it your Evanino?”
The question sends a knife right through Tommy's chest as he imagines what could have been. Gosh, Nonna would have loved Evan (who doesn't love Evan, you idiot?, he tells himself), and he knows deep in his heart Evan would have loved her as well. Every time Tommy would talk about her (which he did fairly often; he was a grandma's boy and had no shame about it), Evan would get a wistful expression on his face and tell Tommy that she sounded awesome.
He had been planning on taking Evan with him next time he managed to visit her, not wanting to introduce them through the phone. Now it's for the best he didn't; at least Nonna won't have to miss him like Tommy does.
“He… he's not mine anymore, Nonna,” He admits, his voice thick with emotion. “We broke up”
“What?! Ma comme?! You were so happy last time we talked!” She asked, and of course Tommy was happy; it was the day before their six month anniversary, and he had been so full of excitement. “Was he not happy? Is that why you're blaming yourself, Tomasino?”
A smile as bright as sunshine crosses Tommy's mind. A smile that only started to fade once Tommy told him he knew how it ended. A smile that had become his personal beacon of light in the past six months. A smile he misses like a lost limb.
“He… he was happy” He says, because that much he knows to be true; Evan was happy with him, Tommy made sure of that. His grandmother frowns at that, and Tommy doesn't blame her; the story seems convoluted, feels convoluted, even to himself, and he lived it.
“Thomas, you have to help your old grandmother, because I cannot understand what is the problem. If you were happy and he was happy, then why are you not together anymore?”
“Because he asked me to move in with him” Tommy says, and that doesn't seem to clear the situation for her. If anything, her frown deepens, and she reaches for a piece of bread, fiddling with it; Nonna could never keep her hands still, especially when she was nervous, and Tommy had inherited that from her.
“Does that mean something different when it’s two men?” She asks, completely genuine, and that earns a surprised chuckle from Tommy.
“No, Nonna” Tommy says, and all of a sudden the urge to laugh is gone again; it never lasts long, not after Evan. “It… It means the same”
“Very well, and you said no? That’s why he ended things?” She asks, and Tommy sighs brokenly, the memories of the night no less painful than when it happened.
“No. I… I broke up with him, Nonna. He asked me to move in with him, and I didn’t just say no. I… I broke up with him," Tommy admits with a heavy heart.
“Tesoro, you do realize you are not making any sense? You and your boy were happy; he asked you to move in with him, and instead you broke up with him. Then you show up looking like your heart was broken and tell me it is your fault. What am I missing, bambino?”
“I have a house, Nonna!” He snaps, finally being able to voice the things that have been stewing in his heart and mind since that night. “I have a house, and he lives in a rented loft, and it makes no sense for me to move in with him!”
Nonna doesn’t answer right away. She chews thoughtfully on her bread, letting a small silence fall between the pair of them before she eventually sighs and answers him.
“Benne, you have a point, it wouldn’t make sense. But that isn’t the whole problem, is it, Tommasino?” Nonna adds shrewdly. “You could have talked it out, explained that to him. So what made you walk out of the best thing that happened to you in years?”
Tommy can always trust Nonna to lay things down exactly as they are, no matter how painful it sounds. She’s right, he did walk out of the best thing that happened to him in years, maybe ever, and it’s getting harder and harder to justify that decision to himself.
“N-Nonna, I was… I was falling so in love with him” He tells her, and feels tears starting to prickle the corner of his eyes.
“Yes, I’ve known that since last time you were here” Nonna says impatiently. “That’s not a reason to leave, Thomas; that’s a reason to stay”
“Only if he loved me back” He says automatically, and Nonna crosses her arms, unimpressed.
“And who says he doesn’t? Did you ask him?” She asks sharply, and Tommy sighs. This conversation is taking a completely different route than what he expected.
“I didn’t have to, Nonna. I… I just know it, okay? I was his first relationship with a man. I cannot be the last, that’s not how it works. And I… I thought I was okay with it, that I could enjoy it while it lasted, but… But I didn’t expect to love him this much” He admits, as much to himself as to her. It’s all his fault, really, for falling so deeply, flying too close to the Sun. “I-it’s safer to break my own heart now than to let him do it when I’m way too deep to recover. N-not that I’m recovering all too well, but… could be worse” He finishes, already wiping the few tears that inconveniently decided to rush down his cheeks.
If Tommy expects his grandmother to nod sympathetically at that and coo at him (he kinda does; she has a habit of doing that when he cries), he has another thing coming. Nonna scoffs loudly, hitting the table with her hand, strong from decades of kneading bread. The noise is enough to startle Tommy out of tears.
“Thomas Domenico Kinard, I didn’t know me and your dear Mamma, may God have her soul, had raised an estupido vigliacco!” She exclaims, her hand flailing loudly to emphasize her words.
Tommy will be the first to admit his Italian is rusty, but he’s pretty sure she just called him a stupid coward. And. Ouch.
“Nonna!” He exclaims back, but she isn’t dissuaded. She tuts him with a sharp ‘Silenzio!’ and a raised finger, and Tommy shuts up right away. He knows that when Nonna starts, the best he can do is take the scolding, so he leans back on his couch, trying his best not to look like a chided boy who got caught stealing fruit from the neighbor’s orchard.
“You are my grandson, and I love you more than anything in this world. You are a good man with a wonderful heart, but you have one big problem, Tommaso. You always assume you know people’s feelings better than they do, and then you make your own decisions based on that without actually asking anyone. Remember when you decided I should move to California because you thought I was lonely here?” She asks, raising an eyebrow, and Tommy nods sheepishly. “Do you remember what I told you?”
“That if and when you wanted to move to California, you would let me know, but you were perfectly capable of making your own decisions” He mumbles back, the epic scolding from five years ago still fresh on his mind.
“Esattamente. Now, I think your Evanino deserves the same courtesy. He is not a silly child, Thomas. If he wants you to be his last, if he loves you, who do you think you are to decide that he doesn’t?”
“But he never said he did,” Tommy replies stubbornly. “He… He never even told me he loved me, he just asked me to move in with him. It’s like… It’s like he wanted to prove a point, Nonna. That he could be… committed, or queer, or whatever, I don’t know. But he never said he loved me”
“Did you say it to him?” Nonna asks, and Tommy stares at her with his mouth agape. Damn this woman and her ability to ask the most uncomfortable questions.
“N-no” He admits. “I… I was too afraid of him not saying it back”
“Hmmm” Nonna hums thoughtfully. “That’s your other problem, bambino mio. You think you don’t deserve to be loved. I blame that man for that” Nonna says with a scoff, and they both know exactly who she’s talking about; there’s no lost love between Rosa Lucciola and her ex-son-in-law, Brian Kinard, and the way he treated Tommy and his mother before she passed is the sole reason for it.
“Well, that’s neither here nor there, Nonna” He says with a shrug, always uncomfortable when his father becomes even a small topic of conversation, but she tuts disapprovingly.
“Ah, isn’t it? Has it never occurred to you that maybe your Evanino could have the same problem? That he was as afraid as you to show his heart and have it broken?”
Tommy desperately wants to say that he thought about it, that it occurred to him; but it hasn’t. Evan is such a sunshine of a man, always so prone to smiles and loving gestures towards anyone he cares about, that Tommy never thought there could be insecurities there. Now it makes him feel selfish and stupid (or estupido as Nonna had so accurately called him).
“Nonna…” Tommy says, his mind catching up to everything she said and a horrifying realization dawns on him. “What if he did love me back? Oh my God, did I fuck this up?!” He asks before he can stop himself.
“Language! Do not take the Signore’s name and swear in the same sentence!” She chides him, and Tommy mutters ‘sorry’, but her look is impossibly fond. “But, well. Maybe you did; maybe you didn’t. Are you going to sit around and mope or try to find out?” Nonna challenges him.
“W-what if he never loved me, Nonna? Or what if he did, but me walking out made him stop?” Tommy asks, not knowing which possibility scares him the most.
“What if he still does, Thomas?” Nonna counteracts. “What if he loves you and is too afraid to reach out because you already rejected him once, hm? Someone has to be brave, and he already was when he asked you to move in, bambino. Maybe it was a little impulsive, but his heart was in the right place; it was in your future together”
Tommy realizes Nonna is right. He can’t expect Evan to reach out (he realizes he was at some level, and he would have rushed to it; one call from Evan and Tommy would be right back to his life, ready to reheal his own heart when things inevitably went wrong, just for another glimpse of Evan Buckley’s personal sunshine); it’s his turn to fight for them. It’s his turn to be brave.
“Ah, you finally realized it, hm?” Nonna says; something must be showing on his face, because there’s a satisfied smile on her face. “Fight for that boy, Thomas. Fight for your happiness, tesoro. Prove to your Nonna you are not estupido”
“Nonna, you are most definitely the best person on the planet, and I promise you didn’t raise a estupido. I’ll do right by Evan. By… By me. By both of us” Tommy promises to her, promises to himself. He blows a kiss to the screen of his cellphone, desperately wishing he could kiss her cheek in person. “Ti amo, Nonnina” (I love you, granny)
“Ti amo, nipotini del mio cuore” (I love you, grandson of my heart) She tells him back, and a mischievous smirk appears on her face. “You better bring that boy here to try my rondelli before the year is over, you hear?”
“Dio, I hope so, Nonna” He tells her, and they say their goodbyes before hanging up. Tommy already misses her.
He holds his cellphone close to his heart, wondering if he should text Evan, but decides against it. This is too big for a text, too big for a call. He’ll go over in the morning, probably with a bouquet of flowers or whatever other extravagant gift he can come up with, ready to grovel and explain himself and beg for a second chance, even if it’s only to hear a ‘no’. Even if it’s only to let Evan yell at him and get the closure he deserves. Even if it’s only to get his already shattered heart broken into even more pieces. Tommy has to be brave.
After all, nonna and mamma didn’t raise a coward.
(Evan doesn’t say no. And when Tommy explains, after several rounds of make-up sex, what made him change his mind, he promises to send Nonna a present. The present ends up being him and Tommy, because they go to Indiana for Christmas, and Evan falls in love with Nonna and her rondelli. Just like Tommy knew he would)

Can I request a dcpool buddy whose in season 2 of young justice and nothing about them has changed expect them being brutal as usual in combat and jokes while still being his crazy usual self who loves driving people and new recruits insane and the leaguer as well and who knows developing his own teams of killing machine who fight crimes and kick ass.
DCpool has returned!
Hope you enjoy!
DCpool in Season 2
SFW, Platonic, Mention of injuries, Hinted Familial, Mutant reader
YJ
Shortly after the League was found after being missing for 16 hours, DCpool had casually mentioned about going solo soon.
Something that had taken the entire team off guard.
DC makes sure to clarify that this was something they had been thinking about for a while.
It might be something they need after all of what happened.
There isn’t much the others could do, so they helped him get situated.
DCpool is in front of the Zeta Tube with his bags ready. The team is standing by his side. M’gann gives him yet another hug. M’gann: “Are you sure you have to go?” DCpool hugs her back. DCpool: “Oh c’mon M’gann. You’re acting like I’m leaving forever. I’ll still be around.” DCpool finishes the hug before pulling out some burner phones and passing them to the team. Connor: “What are these for?” DCpool: “Just a way you can get a hold of me. If you guys ever need an extra hand in something, I’m just a phone call away.” Robin: “I could find you faster.” DCpool ruffles his hair. Robin swats it affectionately. DCpool: “I know you can, but I am not going to be waking up at 3 in the morning to see you eating my food.” Artemis: “That would be Wally.” Wally: “Hey—You know what that’s accurate.” DCpool laughs before giving everyone one last hug. Kaldur: “You will be missed my friend. May your journey be safe.” DCpool: “Speaking like I go looking for trouble Nemo? Don’t worry about me! See ya later or whenever the author decides to put me back in the team!”
DCpool was scares to find after he left the cave.
Staying true to his word as to stay on a low profile and only coming when needed.
So far, the only person who seemed to have tags on him was Dick.
DC was the first one he called after moving to Bludhaven after the fight with Bruce.
DC had originally gone to Gotham afterwards to stick it to the Bat, but plans of vengeance changed after meeting someone.
Someone by the name of Jason Todd.
Any of Batman’s ‘No Meta human rule’ means nothing to DCpool when it comes to Dick and Jason.
He would eventually give DCpool a free pass into the city after Jason…
DCpool climbs up Jason’s room. DCpool: “Hey Jay, you know that burner phone only for emergencies, right? I don’t think a plant funeral counts.” Jason: “But you always said that if I needed to hide the body to always call you first.” DCpool crosses his arms. DCpool: “You’re really twisting my arm on this one kiddo.” Jason: “I just need to get rid of it before Bruce finds out.” DCpool: “… Give me 5 minutes to dig the hole, I have a shovel in the car.” Bruce kicks down the door. Jason jumps up in surprise, holding a dead plant. DC immediately tosses Jason over his shoulder and jumps out the window. DCpool: “FREEDOM!” DCpool is running on the lawn with a laughing Jason in his arms. Bruce is grabbing an emergency grappling hook and swinging down to catch them. Bruce: “DCpool! Give me my son back!” DCpool: “No! He’s my son now! I just need to get the Batadoption papers you have and sign Dick and Jay as my kids!” Bruce: “DCPOOL!” Meanwhile in Bludhaven… Dick: “…Something just happened… and I don’t know how to feel about it…”
Timeskip to season 2…
DCpool came back to the team in an unexpected way.
He would have eventually come back, but someone sped up the progress.
Thanks to one time traveling speedster, Bart Allen.
The speedster had been messing around with this weird looking thing that was in Wally’s bag.
Most of the old team had decided to do a reunion and were talking about boring mission things.
Unbeknownst to him, he accidentally pressed the silent SOS button.
It was 1 in the morning where DCpool was when he received the SOS.
He immediately puts the suit on and goes to Wally’s last known location.
Good news for him, its in the cave.
Getting into the cave was the easy part… besides accidentally setting off the caves new silent alarm.
The team is spread out and ready to face whatever intruder came in. Tim is with Cassie, Jaime, Lagan and Bart. Bart: “I still don’t know why I can’t just go speeding around and nab the guy. It’ll be done in less than a minute!” Jaime shushes him. Jaime: “Not with your ankle like that.” Cassie: “Shh! I think I hear something.” All the teens stand on guard ready to face the corner. Lagan: “I’m ready when you are Robin.” Tim looks over before he gets a foot to the stomach and sent onto his back. A sword is pointed straight at his face. Cassie, Jaime, Lagan and Bart: “Robin!” Tim looks up at his attacker… a very familiar attacker… Tim: “DC?” DCpool squints before lowering his sword. DCpool: “Timbers? What in the—Oh I know that high caffeine smell from anywhere!” DC helps Tim onto his feet before giving him a noogie. DCpool: “It’s been forever! How’s everything in old dark and broody Gotham?” Tim: “DC! We’ve talked about this!” DC just laughs before turning to the new teens. DC: “Huh?” Tim: “DCpool, meet Wondergirl, Blue Beetle, Lagoon Boy and Impulse. We are some of the new recruits to the Young Justice.” DCpool: “Good to know, but I’m kinda looking for Walls right now. I got an SOS on the burner and…” The senior team rounds the corner. Team: “DC!” DCpool: “You’re alive!” DCpool launches himself at the closest person, which just so happened to be M’gann. La’gan: “M’gann! Let my girlfriend go land lover!” DC’s neck turns so quickly at M’gann in his arms and Connor. DCpool: “…What in the name of Magneto’s helmet happened when I left!?”
After the surprising reunion, DCpool makes it clear that he would be staying to help the new recruits out.
Plus, he wanted to know what these new heroes had.
The recruits were not prepared for the storm known as DCpool.
…Well, Tim had some preparations.
He was more exposed to DC’s strange methods and often acted like a mini translator to the others.
Though that didn’t stop the other from expressing their distaste to the senior team members.
All complaints that could be summed down to one sentence.
That’s how he shows he cares.
The others aren’t convinced… until a certain event that happened on the Watch Tower.
Random new Leaguer: “Do we really need a bunch of children running around doing our jobs? I mean, look at them! They are messing up more than the villains and giving us more work than—” SHINK! CLANK! A knife was lodged right beside the Leaguers head. DCpool is glaring at him with another knife in his hand. DCpool: “Talk about my team like that again, I Dare You.” Random Leaguer: “How dare YOU even think on pulling that stunt! Do you know who I am!?” DCpool: “No. Who are you?” Random Leaguer: “I’m—” DCpool looks down, like they were searching for something on the floor. Random Leaguer: “Umm?” DCpool: “Don’t worry, I’m just looking for who cares. Hmm… There seems that one here does. Not even the Author wanted to give you a proper name, how sad.” Random Leaguer: “Now you listen—” DCpool: “No. You listen here!” DCpool steps to the Leaguer until he has cornered them. DCpool: “Talk like that about my team again and that knife will permanently replace your sternum. Got that?”
That talk was supposed to be an in-Watch Tower incident.
Too bad Batman filmed the entire thing and sent it to Nightwing.
The team saw it.
DCpool is a bit surprised seeing how much the new recruits started acting towards him, but doen’t ask many questions.
Much like the old team, DCpool is quite protective of this team as well.
He is not going to let anything happen to them as long as he is there.
No matter what kind of injury they have to recover from.
Speaking of injuries, the first time he got injured badly in front of the new team, it was certainly a day.
DCpool had just been torn in half by a huge icicle. Cassie: “DC!” The new recruits surround the body of the red vigilante. Jaime: “No…” Bart: “This can’t… But…” Tim looks sick. Dcpool’s lenses widen a bit. DCpool: “Ow… this is going to hurt in the morning. Oh. Hey kids—” Recruits: “AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” DCpool: “Calm down. Can someone pass me my legs, I kinda can’t feel them right now.” Back at the cave… Tim is sitting with Nightwing. Tim: “How do you work with this guy?” Nightwing has several flashbacks to the team and his personal adventures with DCpool. Nightwing: “You’ll get used to it eventually.”

Shortest
Sacred Spaces masterlist, Heart Pirates reader-insert
Being the shortest in the crew has its perks and drawbacks.
Tumblr media
Being the shortest came with its fair share of trouble with life on the Polar Tang.
For a submarine, the Polar Tang was built almost luxuriously. But the caveat was that it was built with height in mind. It was a blessing for many of your crew, those like Jean Bart and Shosai being able to navigate the halls comfortably for the most part (though the size of the navigation seats couldn’t be helped). It was a curse for shorter members like you, especially when you needed to get something from the kitchen cabinets.
‘Sugar’ glinted mockingly down at you in blocky letters, the container somehow set atop the uppermost shelf. Grumbling, you glanced around to make sure nobody was there before gingerly climbing atop the counter. Your fingers trembled as they fell a few scant inches short of the container.
How Risso managed to navigate the kitchen despite only being taller than you by a bit always stumped you.
Before you could do something drastic, a weight pressed into your back, pressing all the air out of you as someone invaded your space. Red strands of hair fluttered into your vision, and you muttered a curse as Shachi’s familiar voice rang in your ears. “Aw, does our wittol Taiwor need some help to get something from up high?”
“Shut up!” You barked, trying to shake off the redhead’s bulk, lunging for the sugar, but too late as tanned fingers swooped them from the shelf.
The man stepped back for you to hop down, and you did, whirling around to face him. Though he was the shortest of the Swallow Island quartet, he was still tall enough to easily keep the tin out of your reach as you reached.
“I just wanted some goddamn tea!”
“What’s the magic word?”
Incensed, you jumped at him, making sure your boots landed on his toes. “I’ll make a pincushion out of your ass, Shachi!”
***
Being the shortest did really come with its fair share of teasing.
You ducked, avoiding the arm that Hakugan was throwing over you, ready to use you as an armrest. “Oi!”
The helmsman yipped, toppling over as he couldn’t correct himself in time. “Hey!”
His arm latched onto the back of your suit, bringing you down with him. You both landed on the navigation room floor with a thud, immediately breaking into a half-hearted squabble as the two of you wrestled on the floor.
“You idiot! Why’d you pull me down!”
“I was falling!”
Your fist bonked onto the forehead of his mask, not enough to damage anything, but strong enough for him to feel your ire. “I told you that you needed to stop putting your arm on my head!”
“But you’re so convenient as a table! Just the right height!”
“Shut up, Hakugan!” You gritted, one hand pushing back his own as you fought him from palming your face. “You’re not even that much taller than me!”
You were ready to grapple him until a winner emerged, but a metaphorical rope was thrown your way when you saw the wobbly top point of a familiar hood. Muscles straining, you froze, pushing back Hakugan’s hands as you quickly hatched up a plan.
“Helmsman on the floor!” You yelled, scrambling off of him as some of the crew honed in on the sight.
It had the exact result you wanted.
“Dogpile Hakugan!” Clione yelled, diving on top of the already downed pirate.
That prompted a chain reaction for some of the other members present, Ikkaku and Shachi following suit. The masked man let out a weak wheeze underneath everyone that quickly turned to terror as thumping footsteps approached. The crew screamed as Bepo’s shadow fell over them.
“Bepo, no!”
“Please stop!”
“I’m gonna die!!!”
You scuttled away before the navigator could turn on you.
***
Being the shortest meant that Bepo’s hugs enveloped you completely, even more so than any of your other crew members. There were many a time when you’d startled someone hidden in the depths of Bepo’s fur by responding to something. You often used that to your advantage, hiding within the safe confines of his bulk to de-stress
A questioning call of your name roused you from where you lay, swallowed up by Bepo’s fluff. After a moment of contemplation, you poked your head up. “Yeah?”
Tanaka screamed, a high-pitched note that rivaled Mozart’s, startling Bepo beneath you. He pushed his glasses up nervously and cleared his throat as you two leveled an unimpressed look at him. “Ahem. Sorry. Can you help fix my cap?”
A second look showed that he was wringing said brown cap in his hands, his jaw-length locks swaying free. From where you were, you could see the frayed threads, something that would most likely mean a painstaking session bent over your table. But despite your aching back, duty called. You sighed and began to struggle up from where you were lying. “Alright, let me s—”
The rest of your sentence was cut off by a yelp as Bepo’s arms latched around your midriff, pulling you back. He rolled to the side, locking you underneath hid arms. “No, sorry. Rest time.”
“B-But I’m the ship’s tailor!” You protested.
“Captain’s orders. If it’s not major, then you’re not working,” Bepo murmured, nuzzling his head atop of yours. “Tanaka repair your own things. Sorry.”
~~~
Sometimes your height was useful to the crew in more serious ways.
Law handed you a slip of paper, a rough map drawn on it. A bar’s name was written and marked on top of everything, and you already knew what to expect. “Tailor-ya, think you can scout out this place for me?”
“Sure thing. The usual?”
“Yes. Dress down, and try not to interact with anything too much.”
You took the paper, scanning over the map before pocketing it for disposal later. “Got it, Captain.”
“Uni and some of the younger crew members will be on the island for supplies restocking, but they might not be around when you set out, so expect to be on your own.”
“Yes, sir.”
While the crew prepared their pre-docking procedures, you made your way back into your workshop, digging out an outfit in preparation for those going onto the island. It was during times like these that Law’s strict modus operandi came in handy. No unnecessary, garish, attention-seeking skirmishes, uniforms to blend in with each other as much as possible, and a fair amount of time being underwater ensured that the Heart Pirates’ individual identity still remained in a gray area. That, along with your height, made you especially unnoticeable compared to the other members. So once you took off the distinctive uniform and the more distinctive sunhat you wore out, you were the perfect person to move about unnoticed.
You were rummaging for a shirt when the overhead intercom system crackled to life, Law’s low voice filtering through. “Everyone, we’ve arrived.”
Ditching your current task, you followed your nakama up the metal stairs to the entrance doors. Uni, Clione, and the newer members (though not too new, since they’ve been with you all for a few months already) were readying to leave, the hooded man jumping and rushing over when he saw you.
The blonde shoved a small dagger into your hand, patting the appendage. “I heard you’re going out later. It’s nothing big but just in case.”
“Thank you,” you said gratefully, squeezing Clione’s hand before he pulled away to vault over the railing to the dock below (to Law’s loud chastising for him to ‘stop doing that goddamnit you’re gonna break your ankle!’).
You and Law watched the merry band head off, you waving, while Law was as stoic as ever. When the group disappeared around the corner, the man turned to head back into the submarine, and you followed suit.
“Do you need anything before you head out later, Tailor-ya?”
“No. I’ve got everything prepared. Should I join the crew to help with our post-docking procedures?”
Law exhaled through his nose. “I told you already. You don’t have to do that whenever I send you out for surveillance. Just rest up. I need you to be sharp for tonight.”
You gave him a joking salute and split off to head to your workshop. “Got it, Cap’n!”
Your workspace did need some tidying, so you puttered around in the little room until the sky outside the porthole got dark, shucking off your boiler suit and pulling on your outfit for the night. Something nondescript, darker to blend into the area, but not so that you’d look suspicious. One final glance at the map Law gave you confirmed where you were going before you shredded the paper and left.
Ikkaku poked her head out to say a quick goodbye as you breezed past, Risso following suit with a reminder to come back in time for dinner.
“I’m making the Captain’s favorite tonight!”
The thought of his warm food got you drooling. “Got it!”
The night air was gentle on your face as you stepped out of the submarine. Law was already on deck, and he turned to greet you. “Do you have everything?”
You nodded, patting your waistband where you hid Clione’s knife. “I have the dagger Clione left me.”
“Good.” Law tossed a rope ladder over the submarine side, and you began climbing down. “Don’t be reckless.”
Your boots hit the wood below you. “I won’t.”
The map was burned into your mind’s eye as you navigated deeper into the little island town. Even with the encroaching night, a few establishments remained lit. However, the number of souls on the street decreased as you headed closer to the bar of interest.
Noise slammed into you the moment you opened the doors, a disorienting contrast from the quiet outside. However, the chaos was an advantage as you slipped in without drawing any attention, eyes skimming over the area. Your ears caught the murmuring of a familiar moniker.
Bingo. Law’s information was true as always.
You slipped into the bar seat nearest to your target, ordering a lighter drink and settling down.
There were always a few things you kept a lookout for. Movements of other powerhouses, mentions, and bounties relating to the Heart Pirates. But the main one was anything relating to Doflamingo. It was a given, with your Captain’s past hanging over the crew. There was no one other than that man who everyone kept such vigilant eyes and ears out for, anything picked up relayed back to Law with haste. Depending on the nature of the information, it would set the course of your trip for the next few weeks, whether it be submerged deep below water or sailing at a breakneck speed to another place.
Their organizations, as well as any and all names the Donquixote leader went by, were long-memorized by you so that you could catch any and all information.
Your skin crawled at the mentions of slaves passed offhandedly between the men at the table. An auction, generously funded by Joker, on an island north of here. A rare commodity considering he never liked to dabble in this part of the Blue, so far away from his normal base of operations.
You stuck around for as long as you could, picking up the date and location passing between booze-loosened lips. Hearing enough, you paid for your drink and slid out of your seat, making your way to the bar exit. As you rounded the corners of the streets, you thought that everything went well enough, until the shuffle of footsteps fell in line behind you.
“Going somewhere so quickly? I’m surprised you didn’t stay for longer.”
You stilled, slowly pivoting to face the man behind you, feeling the way your body broke into a cold sweat. Though you didn’t show anything as you asked, “What are you talking about?”
“I thought we had a little rat listening to us. I just wanted to see what tidbits were swiped by greedy hands while my friends were discussing business.”
Resisting the urge to scoff at his cheesy words, you backed up, hand clasping over the hidden blade Clione forced into your hands earlier. Its handle was sturdy under your hands, but you didn’t have a chance to use it. Faster than you could react, he was in front of you. Pain exploded in your gut as he slammed a foot into it, sending you flying and hitting the wall of the opposing building and falling to the ground. You retched, stomach acid and spit coming up as you curled in to cradle your stomach. A shadow fell over your curled-over form, and you tensed, hand clenching the handle in your grip. Scuffed boots appeared at in your vision, and you struck, forcing battered muscles into overdrive as you swiped the dagger up, hoping it’d land.
The blade glanced harmlessly off him and the man slammed into you, vision exploding into stars before your air was cut off. You were dragged up, feet leaving the ground.
Oh no.
Though you haven’t been doing this for too long, you’d gotten careless at the ease in which the previous mission went.
You clawed at the vice-like grip around your neck, your borrowed dagger clattering to the ground as the man choking you out wretched your dominant hand to the side. The tips of your boots scrapped the ground beneath, barely making contact with the dirt. A glimpse of gleaming black on the limb holding you made you curse your luck.
Haki.
Damn him, you thought, baring your teeth in a desperate, animal display, ignoring the throbbing that came from the left side of your face. Even if you still had the knife in your grasp, you wouldn’t have escaped anyway. Someone with Uni’s stature or Moose’s strength could’ve handled it. But not you.
Jeering laughter echoed around you as you aimed weak kicks at the one holding you up.
“Who do you work for? Or are you just some nosy brat?” He asked, shaking you around like a rag doll.
Your eye bulged out of your head as he squeezed. The bones of your neck creaked like fragile butterfly wings within his hold. Against his size and abilities, you were helpless. A toy for the larger dogs to chew up. Your skin prickled as you felt eyes raking down your form, and you felt exposed without your usual thick, baggy boiler suit.
It shouldn’t have been like this.
Law was going to be upset.
“Hm, I could make you squeak. I’ll just have to take you back to my boys—”
“Let go of my nakama!”
The rest of his words were cut off by a grunt as something slammed into him. The world went sideways as you slipped from the man’s grasp, landing with a rough tumble as rocks and pebbles dug into your unprotected skin. Taking a few moments, you drew in wheezy gasps before trying to stand up.
Hands caught you as your legs crumpled, and you were scooped up into warm arms.
“H-Hang on,” Bowser’s voice reassured you. “Don’t worry! Uni and Penguin’s got it covered, and we’re going to bring you to the captain!”
You tried to speak, but all that sounded was a hoarse rattle, the ring of fire around your neck aching like a brand. Breathing was equally difficult, and you relented to force wheezing, whistling breaths through your windpipe, limp in your nakama’s hold all the way until you were laid out on the infirmary bed, back in the Polar Tang again.
Through the haze of pain, you forced a smile at the figures hovering above you, unable to discern anybody due to the light shining down. You knew it must’ve been an unpleasant sight, the blood vessels in your eyes no doubt ruptured from the trauma.
Your name was said alongside Law’s familiar honorific. “Don’t worry. I’ve got you.”
That was all the reassurance you needed as Law’s Room flickered on. The feeling of his fruit sectioning you apart was familiar at this point, and you closed your eyes. Your full trust laid in your captain’s abilities as you fell into darkness.
For others, it would’ve been terrifying to be on the receiving end of Law’s powers, but you and the Heart Pirates have never been led wrong by him.
By the time you awoke, you could breathe again. The deep inhale you did came with a dull ache, but nothing of the caliber that you felt before. Shuffling came from the side of your bed, and you glanced over to see your captain standing up from his chair.
“Don’t speak,” Law said brusquely, interrupting you before you could even begin. “You have two fractured ribs and severe bruising surrounding your neck and the facilities there. Luckily, nothing was broken. I did the best I could to realign everything, but there was not much I could do about the ruptured blood vessels. You’re on bed rest until you heal.”
You exhaled, the motion coming with a dull pain as the muscles around your jaws ached. Your captain didn’t meet your eyes, fussing with the various equipment on the bedside table next to you. A common sign of his guilt as he tried to act busy.
Reaching out, you grabbed the edge of his shirt sleeve and tugged, halting the man in his actions. You lifted a hand to mime writing something, which he understood right away. A pencil and paper were thrust into your hands, and you quickly got writing. When done, you shoved the pad at him.
‘Not your fault.’
Law huffed, passing the pad to you. He pressed a hand onto your head, pushing you down. “You’re literally in the infirmary bed right now. Because of a mission, I sent you on.”
‘I chose to go, I’m the best at it. It’s not like our lives are only full of sunshine and rainbows as pirates. And you fixed me up now, yeah?’
“You know better than to over-rely on me,” he scolded.
‘But you take care of us so well, Captain!’
Law scowled, tugging on his hat as he averted his gaze. You squinted, seeing a bit of pink flushing over his skin. “Whatever. Did you manage to gather anything important?”
At that reminder, you brightened, pencil flying across the paper. You wrote down all the information you heard from those men, ripping out the page and presenting it to Law with a flourish. He took it, scanning everything. Gold eyes widened as he comprehended the information written on it. He gingerly folded up the paper and tucked it into his pocket.
“Ah. I see. Thank you.”
Knocking echoed on the infirmary door, drawing your attention away. “Captain?” Bepo’s voice questioned through the door.
Law let out an aggrieved sigh. “The lot of you can come in. Tailor-ya’s awake.”
The door slammed open, and you jolted as a veritable pile of crewmates spilled in, with Bepo’s orange-bright suit in front. Law gave a final word of warning for them to be gentle before the group skidded to a stop in front of you. You smiled at them, ignoring the slight ache that bloomed where you got hit. You could see their hesitation and tilted your head.
“You had pretty bad bruising,” Law told you. “I removed most of the blood from the broken vessels, but the ones in your eyes are too delicate for me right now.”
He gritted his teeth, and you could see his silent decision being made. You could already see him looking for more medical texts the next time the Tang docked at an island.
“Are hugs allowed?” Somebody asked tentatively.
Law exhaled a sigh, lifting an arm to flap his hand dismissively. “Do whatever. It’s mostly cosmetic and very minor injuries left. But don’t be too rough, either way.”
That was all the approval you needed, and you opened your arms.
Bepo’s wrapped around you first, and you relaxed into the Mink, letting out a soft sigh as Law stepped back for more space. A hand landed on your head, ruffling your hair. Uni’s hand, based on the length of the fingers. More arms wormed beneath Bepo, over Bepo, but all of them wrapped around you. An offended squawk from the side signaled that even Law was roped into the mix.
Being the shortest in the crew had its drawbacks, sometimes serious ones. But you didn’t mind. You knew your nakama was there to support you.
