✨NEW WRITEBLR TAG GAME JUST DROPPED✨
If you're struggling with breathing life into your OC's, try this funny yet stupidly simple trick/writeblr tag game I just came up with. I call it the 'Roast Your OCS and Like Michael Scott' tag game. 🤣
So, we've all seen the 'Boom, Roasted' scene from The Office, right? We all know it's not good to put down your characters, because they're like your babies and are in general very complicated beings.
For this exercise, throw all those principals out the window!
Gather all the juicy, mean shit out for this exercise and toss it al them! 😭 In this tag game, we're gonna be reducing all our OC's to the most hurtful, blunt, and callous roast that will render of them more screwed then they already are!
To Duke: "Duke, you’re like a Disney prince nobody asked for. You’re too good for this world, but not good enough to make it interesting. Chosen ones never have a choice? More like audiences never have a choice but to yawn when you talk. Boom! Roasted."
To Claire: "Claire, Master of Spirit? More like Master of Complaints. You’re not a badass; you’re a walking mood swing with a weapon. Your powers? Clairvoyance and foresight? Congratulations, you can see the future and still choose to spend yours rotting on the couch. Boom! Roasted."
To Butch: "Butch, your name sounds as gay as you try not to be. You’re not a character; you’re a mid-life crisis with legs. Everything about you screams ‘I peaked in high school,’ except nobody noticed when you peaked. If testosterone were a person, it would still be more sensitive than you. Boom! Roasted."
To Lucas: "Lucas, you’re like a background character that accidentally got a storyline. The only thing less convincing than your powers is your charisma. You’re like oatmeal — nobody hates you, but nobody wants you, either. Boom! Roasted."
To Andy: "Andy, you’re so boring even your own powers take naps. You’re the guy people forget is in the room until you cough. Your whole vibe is like a knock-off Matthew McConaughey who thinks he's in charge. Spoiler alert: you’re not. Boom! Roasted."
To Barry: "Barry, genuine question: are you serial killer? Seriously, nobody's that happy. You’re proof that comic relief doesn’t always work. Ironically, the relief comes when you leave the room. On the plus side, what you lack in humor, you also lack in intelligence. Matter of fact, spell dumbfounded . . . . . . . . . Boom! Roasted."
To Scott: "Scott, you’re basically a feral child someone dressed up and threw into society. You walk around like a raccoon in a trench coat trying to blend in. I never thought someone raised by animals could be so goddamn boring. In fact, you probably won’t even react to this roast because yawn, same energy. Boom! Roasted."
To Dawn: "Dawn, you’re Claire’s boyfriend, which means you spend your whole life dodging her tantrums. Honestly, it’s impressive how much nothing you’ve done with that position. ‘Boyfriend’ doesn’t mean you have to be the side dish nobody orders. Boom! Roasted."
For this tag game I'm gonna be tagging A LOT of people but mainly people who've interacted with me recently. Free to reblog if you see this on your dash, even if you're not tagged. I find this shit HILARIOUS and I would love to see what everyone manages to come up with! No pressure at all if you don't wanna participate, this is all just for fun. ❤️😊

Book haul at HPB
First, here's a pic of everything.
Tumblr media
Here, you can see each of the P. G. Wodehouse titles I got. Never bought Jeeves and Wooster books before, but this should be a great read. The BBC series was hilarious, what I recall seeing when I was a kid. Always adored Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry; in fact, I already have books written by them, too. Also got a couple Jane Austen titles and a Fyodor Dostoevsky that are part of a special edition series.
Tumblr media
Then I got a bunch of books in this gorgeous special edition collection by Chiltern Publishing. I already had Jane Eyre and a couple other titles in this series, so I hope I don't have any extra copies of anything. I don't think so, but I'll have to unbox my books to find out for sure. I'm a bit worried that I might already have a copy of Wuthering Heights....
Tumblr media
And then these books that are more random. I already had books 1 and 2 of Parasyte, so now I also have book 3. Then I already had Baking Yesteryear by B. Dylan Hollis, but this is a signed copy! The Philip Pullman book is a collection of his essays about the writing process. The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce is considered by some to be one of the 100 greatest masterpieces of American literature. And then Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the one book I actually went there for. 😅 Too bad they didn't have a pretty copy, but that's ok. Maybe Chiltern will release one later. 🤔

This was supposed to just be a rough sketch, but then I started getting really invested in it.
I hadn't initially intended to include so many picture book characters, but the nostalgia was overwhelming. Does anyone remember the animated short films produced by Weston Woods? My local library used to have a bunch of them on the Scholastic VHS tapes from the late 90s. (I know some shorts were released on the Children's Circle VHS tapes back in the 80s (🎶 Come on along! Come on along! Join the caravan!), and some were packaged in Sammy's Story Shop in 2008.)
Characters:
Max, from Where the Wild Things Are, written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak
Peter, from The Snowy Day, written and illustrated by Ezra Jack Keats
Brother Bear and Sister Bear, from The Berenstain Bears series, written and illustrated by Stan and Jan Berenstain
Pooh and Piglet, from the Winnie-the-Pooh books, by A. A. Milne, illustrated by E. H. Shepard
Owen, from Owen, written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes.
Mouse, from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, by Laura Joffe Numeroff, illustrated by Felicia Bond
Louis, from The Trumpet of the Swan, by E. B. White
Mr. Toad, from The Wind in the Willows, by Kenneth Grahame, based on the illustrations by E. H. Shepard
Mr. Tumnus, from The Chronicles of Narnia series, by C. S. Lewis
Pippi and Mr. Nilsson, from the Pippi Longstocking books, by Astrid Lindgren
Willy Wonka, from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl, based on the illustrations by Quentin Blake
Matilda, from Matilda, by Roald Dahl, based on the illustrations by Quentin Blake (with an homage to the Mara Wilson movie)
Peter Pan and Tinker Bell, from Peter Pan, by J. M. Barrie

Tin Woodman and Scarecrow, from the Land of Oz series, by L. Frank Baum, based on the illustrations by W. W. Denslow and John R. Neill
The Cat in the Hat, from The Cat in the Hat, written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss

Dawn of the Dead (2004) Review: a classic horror movie to watch again
Tumblr media
Adapted by James Gunn (Scooby Doo) from the original 1978 George A. Romero screenplay, Dawn of the Dead opens by allowing us to get briefly acquainted with the movies central protagonist, a pretty young nurse named Ana (Sarah Polley). But her safe suburban lifestyle is short lived, and a mysterious epidemic ensures that Ana is fleeing from ravenous zombies before the movie even hits the ten minute mark. She soon meets Kenneth (Ving Rhames), a tough-as-nails cop, and moments later they come across Michael (Jake Weber), a soft-spoken but natural leader, Andre (Mekhi Phifer), a man with a questionable past, and Luda (Inna Korobkina), Andres pregnant girlfriend.
They take refuge in a sprawling shopping mall, but quickly run afoul of the less-than-hospitable security guards C.J. (Michael Kelly), Bart (Michael Barry), and Terry (Kevin Zegers). More characters are added later, notably Steve (Ty Burrell), a smart-ass yuppie, and Andy (Bruce Bohne), the owner of a nearby gun shop. As the horrible infection spreads across the globe, and the situation becomes increasingly desperate, the characters come to realize that no help is coming from the outside. If they are to survive, they must take matters into their own hands. Luckily for us, that involves chainsaws, armor-reinforced parking shuttles, and propane tanks rigged into makeshift bombs.
The action comes fast and furious throughout, and director Zack Snyder (helming his first feature film) does a nice job of pacing and getting us right into the thick of things. He does tend to overuse the slow-motion effect whenever theres an explosion or cartridge ejected from a gun, but this can be forgiven because (a) its his freshman effort, and (b) it doesnt really take away from this particular story. Were also treated to some solid camera work, editing which maintains a fast pace but doesnt confuse the viewer, and excellent special effects with plenty of brains and blood to go around.
The soundtrack also plays a pivotal part in the film, adding an extra dimension to several key scenes. From Johnny Cashs When the Man Comes Around during the opening credits sequence (which, by the way, is better than many full-length zombie movies), to People Who Died by The Jim Carroll Band and a lounge version of Down With the Sickness by Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine, its beyond me why the studio chose not to release this soundtrack.
The acting is very strong for a film of this genre, and Jake Weber and Sarah Polley are particularly impressive in the roles of Michael and Ana. They both manage to bring a quiet sincerity to their roles, something not easily accomplished in a movie dominated by flesh-hungry ghouls and belching shotguns. The cast is much larger than the original, but each character is given a few moments to shine and let the audience identify with them. True, nobody is fleshed out to the extent of, say, George C. Scotts Patton or Denzels Malcolm X, but what do you expect from a horror movie? This isnt Biography, folks.
Fans of the original Dawn will be happy to see cameos by Ken Foree, Scott Reiniger, and Sex Machine Tom Savini. There are several other nods to the original movie scattered throughout, and one gets the sense that the filmmakers had a great affection for their predecessor. But make no mistake, this movie stands on its own with a different cast of characters, different climax, and completely different ending. Comparisons between the two are inevitable, but ultimately unfair to both pictures. Its like comparing the original Atari to the Xbox. Both are a blast, but one is simply hopelessly outdated when held up to modern standards.
It should also be noted that the movie continues through the end credits, so dont run off as soon as the lights start to come up. If you do, youll probably leave the theater with a much different idea of what happened than those who stayed behind.
Dawn of the Dead updates a classic and improves upon it along the way. The action is faster, the zombies are faster, and the overall product just looks better. Its a zombie movie for the modern generation and well worth the price of admission.

Blind Corner (Man In The Dark, 1964)
"You know what I hate most about being blind? I can't see my wife in the mornings without any makeup. With her hair in curlers. I can only remember her looking very beautiful. I want to see her looking ugly. I want to hate her, but I can't hate the woman I remember."
