Hello. I read online about Bengali kinship system having different terms for aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather and whatnot and being someone who grew up knowing Chinese, that kinship system reminds me a lot about our kinship system. It makes me wonder which kinship system between Chinese and Bengali do you consider more complicated to learn.
Considering I’ve had real-life experience memorizing the Bangladeshi one and absolutely no experience with the Chinese system, I can’t give you a fair assessment. I did make the post below if you want to check it out and compare. Keep in mind that Bangladeshi titles will be quite different from Indian ones, and they can also vary by region. The post I made is biased towards Bangladesh.

there's no language as sweet as bangla. simple words coated in sunshine and steeped in affection. dripping so generously with honey, even the saddest song becomes an ode to love. if french is the language of breathless romance, then bangla is the language of bottomless devotion. the language of tenderness so deep, you can't bear to speak of it. the language of returning home and being folded into a tight hug. warm, steadfast, and as easy as breathing.

I'm feeling weird so I'm going to teach my extensive audience how to insult someone in Bangla! Creative really.
Let's start of with my personal favourite:
বাল ফালাইসো। (Bāl fālāiso) — "[You] Cut your pubes". Used when someone told you about something they did which you give 0 shits about.
Continuing,
('tor māyer hæda) — "Your mom's asshole". Used when someone's pissing you off.
Next up we have:
বাজারের বেশ্যা। (Baajārer bæshshā) — "Whore [for sale]". Say this to your ex. Do it.
A bit more complicated one:
তরে বেচলে এইডার দাম হইবো? ('torε bechlε eidar ðām hoibo?) — "If I sell you will I get the price?" Used sarcastically in extremely specific situations. For example your friend told you they wants to buy something, you use this phrase to devaluate them. The cheaper the thing the better.
Now another one:
For men: কুদ্দুস (Kuddus) and for women: সকিনা (Sokina). That's it. They're named which many people associate with cringe people. Usually couples.
Alternatives to Kuddus and Sokina:
আবদুল আর মর্জিনা (Abdul and Morjina)
(Tutul and Tuktuki)
(Masud and Rubina)
(Jabed and Jorina)
That's all I can think of bye

What is the worst vacation you have ever been on?
a summer vacation to puri with my parents. the hotel was cheap, full of mosquitoes, food was horrible, the bed was full of bedbugs and we dropped our phone in the ocean and lost all the photos.

@bongboyblog thank you for making so many wonderful Bengali posts. You’ve been a great help and your content is so useful and practical and an absolute gift for Bengali learners. Your hard work fills a learning gap for people like me!
For those studying Bengali, this blog provides daily word posts, breaks down grammatical concepts and gives examples on how to use a word or concept in Bengali. Considering Bangla doesn’t have a whole lot of reliable/easy-to-understand resources, this is a gold mine! This blog is also wonderful for people who want to learn about Bengali culture in general as well.
Note: the author is West Bengali, so students of Bangladeshi Bangla should still cross reference if they wish to speak colloquial Bangladeshi Bangla. West Bengal Bengalis do speak closer to “standard”, so this will still be very useful if you wish to better understand Bengali literature, songs and film!

My great grandfather was so freaking coooooool
He knew English, Hindi, Urdu, Odia and possibly Arabic, along with Bangla!
And that's a big thing for someone coming from a tiny village in Midnapore (plus we're talking about pre-independent India!). It seems he'd call the wandering fakirs and beggars home, feed them, and ask them to teach him how to read and write the Arabic and Devanagari scripts. English was the then official language and Odia, I'm guessing he learned it from the locals (big Odia diaspora in western Bengal).
Never felt proud of my family like this before lmaoo
Guess I take after him heheh 😌
Edit: Oh wait, he knew some Sanskrit too!!! 'Cause he was a great fan of reading religious texts and stuff (another interest we both share lol)
