I don't have an issue with the running gag that Shizuka is bad at the violin; there is obvious comedic potential to the concept that someone who performs pretty well at just about everything else she tries can be so terrible at something without realizing it. In the context of Fujiko F. Fujio's other works though, it does come across as a somewhat cheap way to give her a "flaw".
See, early in the Doraemon manga, there was no indication that Shizuka was bad at the violin at all.
Tumblr media
To my knowledge, the story that introduced this running gag was "鏡の中の世界" ("The World in the Mirror") in 1982.
Tumblr media
However, Shizuka was not the first Fujiko F. Fujio character to be given this trait. I know of at least two others who had it before her: Yumiko from Bakeru-kun (manga panels from 1975)...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and Miyoko in Kiteretsu Daihyakka (manga panels from 1976).
Tumblr media
Both of them also occupy similar narrative roles to Shizuka in being the primary love interest of the main character in their respective series. It thus seems probable that Shizuka's terrible violin playing was a trait recycled from the heroines in Fujio's shorter-lived series.

I regret to report that Bakeru is a huge disappointment
I was really excited when I saw the Bakeru trailer because I love love love Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon and the game really looked like it was trying to be a spiritual successor to MNSG. I put a few hours into it last night and… god, the game is just boring. No heart, no charm, nothing to make me laugh, forgettable gameplay, forgettable music.
it’s not interesting enough to even go into more detail, but my advice: if you were looking for a new Ganbare Goemon game, do not get Bakeru.

I am so excited to play this game call "BAKERU." It reminds me Mystic Ninja Goemon. The story is base on Japan but in a different world. It seem someone is trying to take over Japan using a evil festival. So I'm helping Sun and playing a Tanuki name BAKERU.

I played a demo for a little game called Bakeru, which is coming out VERY SOON. It's a very fun action platformer thing. I also love finding trivia-giver Scoop around the levels, even if his appearance is, uh....

The other day I finished Mameda no Bakeru. I enjoyed my time with it.
It isn’t mind-blowingly amazing but it also doesn’t do anything awful either. I was surprised with how many stages were in the game. When I didn’t know how many there were, I kept feeling the game was going to end a bit sooner than it actually did. You certainly do get a lot of gameplay out of it though. It's at it's best when seeking out all the goodies in each stage. The hidden tanukis in particular were pretty well hidden since they’re disguised as stage objects and decorations. The collectibles get you to really see the entirety of each stage.
The graphics and characters are all nicely done; colorful and reads well even in handheld mode. Bakeru is expressive like when he’s about to fall off a ledge or gets burnt on something really hot. I also enjoyed the cute and silly enemies, although their variety wore thin before the game ended.
The controls did the job and felt Mario-like especially with how you can do a sideways somersault in much the same way as he. They seemed to have spent time making Bakeru move nicely. I had read from someone else that you should buy the run speed up candy from the shops because Bakeru’s default walk speed is a bit slow, like that of Blinx the Time Sweeper. Very late into the game I realized you can parry projectiles back at enemies. The game isn’t punishingly hard at all but knowing that might’ve made taking out the more guard-heavy enemies faster.
The henge powers were okay but I only really used the fishing rod and gun ones to dispatch hordes of enemies much faster. It’s fun to go ham on everything like this but it also made combat very trivial. I wish there could have been just a bit more uses for them all. OH, and it has some giant robot battling. Always fun to watch.
I would like to see more games with these characters but I don't know how well the game has been doing since it launched. :C

Been playing Mameda Bakeru since I’ve been looking forward to it for a while and I’m having a pretty good time all things considered! I discovered a creechure called an Unchiku and I do indeed adore them
Tumblr media
They also tell you neat little facts! I did actually learn some things too. Apparently, June 1st is Milk Day, October 1st is Coffee day, and in the middle of them both, August 1st, is Café au Lait day. Definitely not something I’d think about often, but it’s always neat to learn something about culture.

been replaying mystical ninja starring goemon when i'm too baby bitch scared to continue in re7 and like. wow dude, this is such a well thought out great game. after watching a lot of segments from streamers that specialize in forgotten bad game bullshit, mystical ninja here fleshed out the perfect world with fun secrets and exploration that does make me feel like a ninja even for how limited the n64 was.
festival temple castle was still a bitch to do just as i remembered (so hard to keep track of which rooms you've cleared vs not?) but i can't find it in my heart to hate it between the sweet music and the accomplishment i felt as a kid beating the boss
