Appreciation Post for the unique Horseland Characters
I always had a soft spot for these characters. Since my childhood I know them and appreciate them. They show us that no one is perfect and how important true friends are as well as it is important to be kind and patient with your horse. Also Will and Jimber are such underrated characters in the show, I wish they had more screen time with the other characters, especially Will more with Sarah. 😉
Who was your favorite of these? Mine were always Sarah, Will and Nani.

Horseland Age Headcanons
Time for me to show up out of the weeds with my completely unsolicited headcannons and theories for obscure television series that I should be way too old for again lol. Today's victim:
Horseland
There seems to be a general consensus on the ages of the various human characters in Horseland. That fanon conclusion being that the main characters are all around 15 yrs old, with the exception of Will, who is slightly older at 16-17 years old. I disagree with this assessment.
First let's look at some direct quotes from some of the episodes.
Episodic Evidence
1) Episode: "You Can't Judge A Girl By Her Limo" (S1E1)
"You calmed Button down better than I could and I've been riding her for five years!" - Alma Rodriguez
This quote provides some clues about Alma's age, or at least the minimum age that Alma can be. Most riding instructors will take students at the age of 9, with some taking as young as 6 years of age. Being's that Alma's dad is the manager at Horseland, I think that Alma would have began riding at a very young age. By that logic, Alma is somewhere between 11-14 years old, unless she rode a different horse before Button.
https://horsesafetytips.com/2020/06/04/whats-the-best-age-to-start-horseback-riding-lessons/
2) Episode: "Fire, Fire, Burning Bright" (S1E5)
This episode has some interesting quotes that may give clues to the main character's ages, or at least the Stilton girls ages and Will's age.
"Let me get this straight, you got all the way to middle school without learning to swim?" - Molly Washington
Wouldn't it be odd that Molly specifically mentions Chloe and Zoey making it to middle school (11-14 yrs old, in Canada from Wikipedia) without having learned how to swim if they were high school aged (14-18 yrs old)? If they were in high school, she probably would've said that instead. Beings that the series likes to remind us that Chloe is older than Zoey, that would mean that Chloe is about 12-14, and Zoey is around 11-13 years old. Either that or they are twins, but that doesn't seem to be the case (I myself have a sister that is 1 and 1/2 yrs older than me, and I also had a close relationship to her growing up). The only evidence I have seen that points to them being twins as opposed to being siblings close in age is the names rhyming with each other (Although my mom's friend's four grandchildren all have names ending with the -en sound and I went to school with twins that had non-ryhming names so that isn't a very strong argument imo)
"But I was in charge of the trip. I am responsible for everyone." - Will Taggert
This one's a bit less obvious, but as a volunteer that has worked with minors on weekend retreats before, I know that organizations and schools typically require (often by law) at least one faculty chaperone to be 18+ yrs old and to have clearances stating that they have never abused a child or commited a crime (usually, they also want more than one adult chaperone per group as well, but we'll let this slide based on the fact that there are only 5 minors going on this trip). From this line and his role in this episode's plot, we can deduce that Will is the staff member from Horseland facilitating this overnight event, and thus is at least 18-19 years old. This makes sense. Will has a rather unique role in the series compared to the other characters. He is a sort of groundsman and riding instructor at Horseland, rather than a student. His aunt and uncle (Bailey's parents) are also his employers. Reasonably, if I had to pinpoint a narrow age range for Will, I would say that he is 18-21 years old, although I wouldn't discredit him even being as old as his mid twenties (at least in season 3), almost solely based on his demeanor and almost laid-back relationships with the other main characters. His behavior in this episode even supports this. I went through a similar predicament, albeit on a smaller scale, while acting as a hiking guide at the age of 20 on one such aforementioned retreat. I blamed myself for potentially endangering these students, even though they were told to follow my lead and instead went off trail at one of the more dangerous parts of the trail. Likewise, Will blamed himself for the forest fire, even though it was really Chloe and Zoey's actions that caused the fire, for the sole reason that he was the adult responsible for the trip and all the students he took on it and thus is immediately liable for anything bad that happens (Well more like Horseland would be liable, and Will would be at risk of losing his job and/or facing fines or criminal charges). From this episode and how Will progresses throughout the series, I'd say Will is in his early stages of leadership and that is why I chose an age range closer to the ages of majority in Canada (which depends on which province Horseland supposedly exists in). I know some of y'all may be thinking about this, so I'll address it while I'm still on Will. In several of the episodes featuring competitions, while we never actually see him compete, Will is on Jimber and wearing typical dressage wear as opposed to his jeans and t-shirt (See "Changing Spots"). Some may say that this proves that he is actually a student as well. It may be possible that he is a student as well, and simply tutors more ameteur riders in his free time, but this says nothing about his age, only that he would be more advanced than the other main characters. He also could be dressed like that just for show for the competition. Additionally, while I know very little about equestrian competitions, while I was in HS winter colorguard, my instructor (a college student) usually would compete with a different club in a different age category at the same competition. It may not be disimilar.
3) Episode: "Pepper's Pain" (S1E7) "Zoey, you guys have been together for years. Your dressage proves how well you've grown as a team." - Chloe Stilton
The information provided in this line from Chloe is ambiguous. However, the emphasis she puts on years implies that Zoey has been riding Pepper for like a really long time, although she may just be emphasizing this word as she's trying to make a point to Zoey. Regardless, it is safe to say that Zoey has been riding Pepper for at least 5 years. That would put her in the same minimum age range as Alma, 11 to 14 years old.
4) Episode: "The Competition" (S1E9)
"Oh my gosh, what a huge let-down. First off, his girlfriend was there, and they were both old! He was at least thirty." - Chloe Stilton
This ones a bit of a reach, but what teenager thinks that 30 is old? I certainly didn't (then again, I did grow up surrounded by family members that are elderly, so take my words with a grain of salt). Regardless, this statement solidifies the argument that Chloe is probably middle school aged, rather than high school aged. As we progress from childhood to adolescence into adulthood, the perception of "oldness" changes. Have you ever seen the vine where this little girl (likely kindergarten aged) famously says "I'm 16! I'm a grandmother!". If you were a middle schooler, you probably would consider 30 to be old. There are many articles that document this phenomenon:
5) Episode: "Heritage Day" (S03E10)
"Zoey, they eat mosquitoes, not teenage girls." - Nani Cloud
This line takes place after the girls are frightened by a group of bats sharing the cave they took shelter in from a storm. This line clearly states that at this point of the series, most if not all of the main girls are teenagers (ages 13-19). We can conclude one of two things, depending on how one percieves this show's timeline, since the line is said towards the end of the show's final season. A) The girls have always been teenagers or B) There is a time skip between season's 2 and 3. For me, B is plausible if we try to explain Bailey and Will's voice changes cannonically. But B is also not plausible considering Will is already an adult and would have already undergone a voice change. Thus I will say that the ages of the girls are constant through the series at the lower range of the teens, perhaps even preteens.
Plots and Storylines
Next, let's look at the plots of the episodes. A lot of the episodic plots support most of the main cast being preteens or in their very early teens. Molly getting her first cellphone, Alma getting her first crush, Chloe lying about being able to do an advanced jump to impress her peers, Sarah getting her first taste of death through the loss of a beloved pet, etc. Not to mention, many of the episodes are driven by some drama being stirred up (middle schoolers are notorious for being awful to each other). These are all typical problems that preteens face during this stage of their life. You may be inclined to think that all of the MCs are in middle school from this, but there is some evidence for some of the characters being slightly older than others. In the episode "The Best Loss", Molly is out with her friends at a pizza parlor with no parents in sight and has been able to take the public bus to and from Horseland on her own for the entire duration of the series. In the episode "Talk, Talk", she's even talking to her friend Amber about what she should wear to a party. This leads me to believe that Molly is slightly older than the other girls. Bailey also falls under this category. In the season 1 episode "Boss Bailey", Bailey is left in charge of Horseland for a day when his parents and Will have to go facilitate a parade. Even with Bailey being the owner's son, I think that they would not want to leave a middle schooler in charge of an entire riding school. Bailey is also used as an example during a lot of Will's lessons to the other MCs, demonstrating jumps, meaning he's probably more advanced than the other riders. He also does a lot of the groundwork and maintenance with Will (such as in "Pepper's Pain", "Fire, Fire Burning Bright", and "Wild Horses"). For these reasons, I think Bailey is a bit older than the girls.
Conclusion
I could go on and on, analyzing each character's behaviors one by one, but I'd essentially just be rewriting the show's script interspersed with my own interpretation. That is most of what this conclusion is, my interpretation of the characters based on my own life experiences and the collective characterizations the show provides across its three seasons. So with that being said, here are my guesses as to the ages of the characters.
Sarah Whitney -        13 Molly Washington -  14 Alma Rodriguez -     13 Chloe Stilton -           14 Zoey Stilton -            13 Bailey Handler -        15 Nani Cloud -              13 Will Taggert -            20
I chose most of the main characters to be so close in age to each other as they are all in the same "practices" at Horseland, as well as how they interact with each other.
So, what do y'all think? Do you agree with the ages I chose for each character? Why or why not?
*Side note - I know there are a fair deal of Sarah x Will shippers out there. I know that most of them do not support minors being in relationships with adults. Remember, there are no official ages for these fictional characters and this post is just my personal interpretations. While I myself do not ship these two characters, my intent is not to say that this fan population is wrong for supporting this ship. My purpose for writing and posting this is to share my thoughts on the Horseland characters ages based on my own observations and life experiences.

Penny is usually a chill lady. But popping off is something seen very often. So when Rex (Sarah's older brother) starts spouting off some colorful ideas, Penny blowing up, they saw it coming... Will threatening Rex, however? That was something never seen before.

I agree with you. Horseland was a big part of my childhood and with Spirit one of the reasons why I love horses til this day. I honestly wish there were more episodes and seasons and we also would get into more mature themes as the characters grew up. As you said the animation flows beautifully that’s very true and I like that it is 2d. It fits more the character designs, which are by the way very strong and in my opinion look very good. My only issue is that I would like the horses to be more like the ones from Spirit at least designwise. But I also think they did a good job with showing the feelings of the animals without making them overdone and unreal.
I miss this show ❤️
Tumblr media
Horseland.
This cartoon is an underrated gem.
It only got so many episodes but it tackled a lot of big problems. Things kids should be learning. And they do this perfectly in my opinion.
Each big issues that were addressed showed consequences of said issues. And they touched on a lot of them.
Gossip.
Judging people without getting to know them.
Death.
Being too overconfident.
Jealousy.
And even having an episode about dyslexia. Which, from the shows I've watched both kid and more adult, is a rarity. It's pretty much not even touched for TV. It made the episode a bit more special to me.
And and those are only some examples.
My favourite episode is Pepper's Pain. Though I've also heard it being called Added Weight. Possibly being different titles in other places, or the YouTube video with it decided to call it that? I'm not sure. But let's move on. So I'll be using it as my main example.
Ill try to mot spoil the episode too much.
In the episode some of the other horses tease a horse named Pepper about her weight. So to lose weight she stops eating. She even pushes herself to run instead of eating grass.
This topic has been touched upon in different ways on other shows but so far this ones my favourite. I just like how the story and the issue is presented. It feels really real to me. Like you could be the one standing there instead of Pepper.
And this was only my favourite episode.
Horseland does well on the other ones as well. Even the episode about dyslexia. How characters who don't understand believe something else. I like it because it shows it in a way for both sides. How hard it can be for those who suffer from mental disorder. And how people can react in cruel ways when they assume; the wrong thing about someone with mental disorders. While Autism seems like the mental illness to use I really like that they went with Dyslexia. It gives that mental disorder a bit more exposure to kids. Which is amazing! Even though I have autism and not Dyslexic, I still really enjoyed that a mental disorder that's rarely seen on TV was used. They made a good choice in doing that.
As im sure you can see the stories in the episodes are actually good. Yes they have some bad moments but what Tv show doesn't have bad moments? Its going to happen even in a story that is truly amazing. They really show consequences. Consequences about things like what might happen when you tease someone about their weight. Yes it does use a lot of friendship elements but it also uses other elements as well.
They even have used the needing to talk to each other instead of suspect things behind their back. Since it could be all a misunderstanding.
Even on how when you do something mean it can come back at you. No matter how hard you try to make sure others don't know about it.
And the characters are put in situations that address big issues that go along with their character traits. Like that when it happens to the character it feels like it's something that'd actually happen. If someone with that attitude was put in such a situation. Which is really clever.
So let's move on to characters.
Well we see a lot of the animals especially a dog named Shep, a cat named Angora, and a pig named Teeny, alongside the horses. Though the humans are also in there too though letting the horses have spotlight. Though both animals and humans get moments of dealing with the big issues being addressed.
There are things I like about the characters. I'll name a few.
They have a really kind rich girl, Sarah, who doesn't act like a spoiled child. She is really kind and has a good attitude to fit with the others. Shes often seen as one of the main characters to leap into action when something happens.
They also have two other rich girls. Chloe and Zoey. They aren't as nice as Sarah. But they still aren't completely horrible. Yes they can be mean and bullies. However in the show we see their care towards others, sometimes it's them who help to show others what they did wrong, and they have kinder sides that can be seen while watching. There was even one episode where Zoey joined a group that was for a good cause. The way they are portrayed as bullies but with good traits as well is awesome. It's not something you see in tv with the bully characters.
Will who is usually seen being the teacher to the other characters. He has a wise and understanding personality in my eyes. He definitely is the main one to act as the adult of the group. He and his horse get less screen time. Though they seem to make the most out of the time they do get on screen. The most mature and level headed of the group.
Of of course I can't forget some of the animals.
Shep is a character we often see talking about what happened or what's going on. He's like the narrator though he doesn't narrat the entire episode. He's also the main one to help out when it is needed. He looks out for everyone and has helped out in many different ways.
Angora is a character who is a slight bully at times. She's prideful, a little full of herself, loves to nap, likes to be lazy, and she can get sarcastic at times. She loves poking fun at others especially at the pig Teeny. Though she does show kindness and a good side to her at times. She has an attitude and sarcasm.
Teeny is the naive and innocent character. She is often the way for questions from the audience to be asked. As things happen she's usually the one to ask a question about the situation. Either asking what's going on or why it's going on. She is usually seen asking Shep the questions who provides answers. She is the way they can outright say what's going on and even that it's something mean. She tries to provide Humor as well though it's the more ditzy Humor. She's not a bad character. And the way they set up when and how these questions are asked and answered, works so well. They find the perfect moments to slip that in so it can be spoken directly at the intended audience. In order to teach them about what's going on or to explain what's going on.
Ill give the last character spot to Scarlet. She's one of the horses we see a lot in the show. She may be a part of a rich family but she has a heart of gold. In my favourite episode she's the one trying to get the others to stop their teasing. She even played a motherly role to two babies that were visiting. She is willing to take charge to try to help and to protect those that she cares about.
The other characters each have their own ups and downs. They show different sides to situations. Either being the one to tease, and those who extend a hand or hoof even as the others are being mean.
It also doesn't use songs to help through the issues. There's no musical numbers the characters would sing out of nowhere. None of that. Instead they just use the story, and Shep and Teeny narration, in place of the musical numbers other tv shows like to put into cartoons.
Ghe animation is also done beautifully. It really flows. From the movement of the characters to the movement of hair. I see details in the animation that makes it very nice to look at in my opinion. The characters are drawn well. You can tell that those who are competent with animation made this show. It really shows in the episodes.
Overall I'd suggest giving Horseland a watch. You might be surprised by how much you like it. It's a truly good show that I wish saw more episodes. Though what can you do?
Thanks for reading my rant/review. Have a great day!

Finally made myself into a horseland rider! 🌺 Their accent colour is black. 🌺 Wears fake piercings. But takes them off while riding for safety. 🌺 Works at a stable and is more focused on finding the right home for horses than riding. 🌺 Doesn't own a horse as of right now. 🌺 Owns Glacius Sisters Stables with the rest of her sisters. 🌺 They're great at dyeing and picking out colours that suit horses. 🌺 Horse care and stable-cleaning are part of their job. 🌺 The 4 horses you see are current and past horses raised with utmost care at Glacius Sisters Stables. If you would like to purchase any of the 3 horses that are listed as available, you can buy them here.

Horseland - an underrated Gem
I know this series since I was a little kid and rediscovered it recently. It was like meeting an old friend seeing all the characters again with their beautiful horses. The colors they chose for every rider and horse let them stand out and make them unique. They also let them feel connected.
But what really makes this series stand out from all other horse media is that they tackel some serious issues. Like grief, gossip, how dangerous fake news can be, jealousy, judging people without knowing them
This show also has some really cute ships and potential couples, I felt they had more plans with them but hadn’t enough seasons to tackel it. So they did it subtle but also show a really healthy relationship like with Will and Sarah and a bit of a toxic relationship like with Bailey and Chloe. They sadly never got together. But I think Will and Sarah got together off screen because they clearly had feelings for each other and would’ve deserved to be together. What they also really did well, was not telling us that these characters had feelings for each other, they actively showed us.
Now to the characters. I just introduce you to my favorite, because they are many including the horses and the pets of the ranch.
Sarah Whitney & Scarlet:
Sarah is a friendly girl and a really good role model. She’s selfless, kind, determined and has a strong bond towards horses through to her sensitive nature. Sarah always tries her best and wants everyone to feel welcome and accepted due to her first meeting with the Horseland gang as she was new. She’s like Will one of the more level headed characters and is the voice of reason in the group. She’s always ready to help her friends and is a clever girl. She firmly believes that "clothes are just clothes" and they are to be held at a lesser value than friendship, which earns her no respect from Chloe and Zoe.
Scarlet is just as her rider a kind horse. She always knows when Sarah’s upset or sad and is always there for her owner. The bond they share is the most explored and definitely the deepest. Scarlet is the lead mare of the Horseland herd. She’s with Sarah since she was was seven.
Will Taggert and Jimber
Will is Baileys Cousin and lives with his relatives since he was a little boy. Some fans speculate that his parents died in an accident and this is the reason why he lives on Horseland and never talks about his parents. It would also explain why he blames himself in one episode, due to feeling powerless when his parents died, it would also explain how he was the only who really understood Sarah when she lost Mosey. He‘s a very understanding and kind hearted person. For him the respectful treatment of horses as well as other humans is very important. He’s the oldest of the group and Sarah’s love interest and seems to have feelings for her too. He always is there for her as well as she’s always there for him. They stand up for each other and seem to have a deep connection due to their shared love for riding and horses.
His horse is Jimber, a powerful palomino gelding. Jimber is the oldest and wisest of the horses. He is the lead stallion and was in his early years a farm horse before he came to Will. There Releationship is not much showed but from what you can see is, that they have a deep understanding for each other.
Nani Cloud & Sunburst:
Nani is a Native American girl from the Cherokee tribe and is very proud of her roots. She’s smart and is a very talented rider. She loves the nature and loves open spaces. She’s the only one of the gang who rides bare back. Nani seems to be a free spirit and is a confindet young woman.
Sunburst is Nani’s beautiful paint horse stallion. He loves his freedom and is a calm and friendly horse.
Best episodes in my opinion and also my favorites:
Mosey
Fire, Fire, burning bright
The horse whisperer
The last drop
Wild Horses
You can’t judge a girl by her limo
The awful truth
Cry wolf
The competition
Heritage Days
The big parade
The Secret
No News is good News
Talk, Talk
Overall I can definitely recommend giving Horseland a chance. It might surprise you. Who else remembers Horseland or maybe watched it as a kid? I was really surprised how I can still relate to the messages presented in the show and I‘m an adult now and it’s still fun to watch. It’s not important for children to learn these lessons, adults also should take it more to their hearts.

Here is Wren’s completed profile for Alien Stage Season 40! @season40
Wren’s introduction containing some extra information can be found in this post and her preseason logs are here and here.
Personality: Outgoing, charismatic, perceptive, stubborn, and competitive
Voice/Singer claim: Halle Bailey
Notable Attributes
———
Wren has vitiligo on the left side of her face, her arms, and her legs.
Her hair is completely white due to a genetic mutation, similar to the stars in her irises.
Her braids reach to just below her shoulder blades.
She doesn’t remember how she got the large scar across her nose.
Has a resting bitch face like her twin sister, but is very friendly once you talk to her.
Minimal eye bags because of her regimented sleep schedule.
(More info below the cut!!)
Background/Lore
———
Wren was initially training to become an Alien Stage guard from the ages of 3 to 8 years old.
After her talent for singing was discovered by an officer, she was enrolled in Anakt Garden as a scholarship student.
She was a unique case at Anakt Garden because at the time of her arrival she didn’t have a guardian.
Wren was assigned a handler named Ra’eon, who took on most of the responsibilities of a guardian. For simplicity sake, Wren calls her “Guardian Ra”.
At the age of 18, Wren was recruited to ZYNE Entertainment, a talent agency specializing in pet-human singing groups. Spots in these agencies’ boot camps were highly sought after, and tryouts were almost as rigorous as auditions for Alien Stage.
Wren’s competitive nature thrived in this cutthroat environment, leading to her becoming one of the top performing recruits in both singing and dancing.
After graduating from Anakt Garden, Wren was “adopted” by the talent agency through a series of somewhat controversial loopholes. She still does not have a guardian/owner in the traditional sense.
Over the years at ZYNE, Wren would become a part of three pet-human girl groups in training. But for one reason or another, these groups never made it to debut.
Industry gossip circles each have a different reason for the groups falling apart: conflicting personalities, lack of a cohesive look, infighting, actual fighting, etc. Though ZYNE has denied all of these allegations.
Regardless of these setbacks, Wren had steadily grown a small but loyal fan base that have been hoping she’d go solo for years.
If she wins Season 40, Wren will debut as ZYNE’s first pet-human solo artist.
Wren’s brand is on her left hip (the same place as Luka’s). She was sedated for the procedure at Ra’eon’s request.

As the Family Expands so Does Our Table, Harvest Fest Feast!
Tumblr media
“So, how’s instructing going? Have you gotten many clients so far?” Eve asked her daughter as the family ate, deciding that ham was the option this year.
“It’s been slow going honestly, I might need to actually get a job… There’s not really a great way for me to monetize it yet.” Kira was feeling a bit deflated with her dream of being a yoga instructor. Maybe soon there will be a way to own her own studio and could make a living out of it…
“Are you doing alright financially? The farm makes enough money, I could-“
“No, I’m fine. I meant something to keep me busy, and feel like I’m contributing something to the world. I feel like yoga is more of a hobby than a way for me to build my life.” Kira cut her mother off before she could finish. She didn’t want her family’s money. She hasn’t even spent any of her family’s money except when she first moved out, that’s why she’s in a rental. She could have bought a fancy house like her brother, but the bungalow was perfect for her.
“Anything you do will contribute to the world, darling. Don’t sell yourself so short.” Eve smiled at her daughter. Kira forced a smile for her mother, did her mother truly have no idea how much neglect Kira felt growing up? She turned her attention to Goopy, who was animatedly telling a story to her brother and sister-in-law.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“… And when I turned around- BAM! I was right there, inches from Judith Ward. I was maybe I dunno seven maybe eight at the time? And she looked down at me with such disgust and said ‘excuse me, child’” Goopy held his nose with his fingers to imitate her accent. “And I just looked at her not moving- shitting my pants. Eventually she pushed me out of the way and I fell and the cameras went nuts taking photos! That night headlines were ‘Five Star Drama Queen Loses Patience w/ child star’ my parents loved it; my dad didn’t even get nominated for a Starlight Acolyte that year. Yet here he was all over the tabloids.” Goopy recounted one of the many times he had been to a red-carpet event with his famous family.
“No way, I remember that! That was you? I was a kid and I remember hating her. That’s crazy, so did she hold it against you all? I feel like that’s something she would do.” Marie was so interested in Goopy’s life growing up as the son of Thorne Bailey and Octavia Moon. That, and the fact that she was trying to hide the fact that her and Victor aren’t currently speaking to one another. The couple have been bickering a lot lately, mostly due to Victor working too hard with his own ranch. He was actively seeking a mare for Snow so he could breed the award-winning stallion which would add more to his plate. It seemed everyone in the house had his attention more than her- Snow, Demario, and even Brandy the barn cat they adopted. Marie voiced her feelings with him and he got defensive and blew up, that was last night.
“Oh, big time! All the handlers for the stars knew and tried to work hard to keep her away from our whole family. It was absolutely absurd the lengths everyone would go to just to keep her away from us.” Goopy laughed thinking back.
Tumblr media
“Thanks for having us, guys, it was really great to spend so much time in this place.” After dinner, surprisingly Kira and Goopy weren’t the first ones to leave. Marie had gone upstairs to gather the sleeping infant leaving Victor to his good byes with his parents.
“You guys can come over absolutely any time, my love.” Eve hugged her eldest tight; the legacy may have been a matriarchy but that didn’t mean Eve didn’t hold a special place in her heart for her only son.
“Everything alright, son? You and Marie seemed not yourselves.” Yoltic asked, he could see the tension between his son and daughter-in-law. It seemed those two were always flirting, or touching each other, but not today.
“Yeah, we just had a fight last night and we haven’t really made up yet. No biggie.” Victor reassured his father, but despite being unconvinced Yoltic didn’t press the issue farther.
Tumblr media
“Auntie Kira! Have you seen my ducky?” Marcella asks as she crawls onto the couch next to her.
“No baby, let me see!” Kira asked enthused, but Marcella’s hands were empty.
“I losted it, and uh it was- uhm.. it had. Uhm, It was in the baff wif me, but it’s not there!” Bruce bounced with excitement as he tried to spit out the words.
Tumblr media
“Brucey, you gotta slow down bud.” Kaylyn told her son with a laugh. “He’s so incredibly smart, but I think his brain moves too fast for his words to keep up sometimes.” Kaylyn shook her head.
“I can’t believe how much personality they each have. It’s incredible how the body and mind grow.” Kira felt more connected to her niece and nephew just then. Her whole life she had been so high maintenance, but these little sims made her think more about her own life and what she might want out of it. The idea of a family sounded more appealing, especially now with someone she might want to share it with…
Tumblr media
“It was so nice to have you come hang out with us, truly I wish we had more time together as kids. This was nice.” Kaylyn smiled as she hugged her sister tightly, they had a great relationship growing up, but they were never really that close.
“It actually was nice to be here, I enjoyed hanging out with Brucey and Cella.”
“Hey Kaylyn, I have a number I want to give you. One of my buddies has a studio in Del Sol Valley, and I told him you would be calling him. I told him he had to see you play, and he promised to give you a slot. I know you said you had to stay here, but I think you should really consider spending some time in Del Sol Valley. You’re way more talented than most of them.” Goopy had come around the corner from the restroom.
“Thanks, I appreciate it. I’ll give him a call, but I can’t actually stay in Del Sol Valley.” Kaylyn didn’t expect to call this guy, but took the number anyway.
“Just think about it, if my dad can win six acolytes for my mother’s words- you deserve an acolyte more than one.” Goopy gave her the contact info and the couple left.

Theories on Will's Parents
Man I love making up theories and headcannons for media intended for children and preteens. Why might you ask? Because often they leave out details on things kids might not understand and only hint at darker themes, leaving ample space for older fans and parents watching with their kids to gather the pieces to make hypotheses on what may be happening off-screen. As a side note, this is why I love the HTTYD franchise in particular, but that is not the victim of today's crazy theory post.
This post is about Will Taggert from Horseland. For those who don't know, Horseland was a show produced in 2006-2008 for children aged 6-12 that follows the life lessons and social skills that Sarah, Molly, Alma, Chloe, Zoey, Bailey, Nani, and Will (to a certain extent) as well as their horses (Scarlett, Calypso, Button, Chilli, Pepper, Aztec, Sunburst, and Jimber) and the animals around the farm (Shep the dog, Teeny the pig, and Angora the cat) learn through episodic stories.
There is a mystery that many fans of this show have explained in various ways surrounding the character of Will. What is up with Will's parents? Why does he never mention them? Why does he live at Horseland with his aunt, uncle, and his cousin Bailey?
As usual let's first look at the evidence the show presents.
Episodic Evidence
In the episodes "Talk, Talk" and "No News is Good News", we can clearly see that Will lives on the Horseland property and has his own bedroom in the ranch house. He is a riding instructor, coach, and grounds maintenance man at Horseland and often takes on responsibilities at the ranch such as special events, organizing and facilitating activities (such as the camping trip in "Fire, Fire Burning Bright", the early morning ride in "No News is Good News", and the Twilight Trek in "Molly and Chilli"), and advising students on proper care for their horses.
Throughout the series, Will never once mentions having parents or having any other family besides Bailey and his aunt and uncle (unless you count his grandfather in the episode "The Secret", who I am 90% sure is dead based on Will's use of the past tense when talking about him).
Okay so not much to work with. There is no hard evidence for his parents being dead or not. Remember, no mention of parents does not mean they are dead, especially with Will being removed from the other MCs (he's older and has a different relationship to them based on his status as a teacher) and only appearing briefly in most episodes or not at all. All we can say with 100% certainty is that if his parents are still in his life, he doesn't live with them and instead lives with his aunt and uncle. This opens the door for fan theories. I will present both common fan theories and theories I have come up with on my own.
Theory 1: Will's parents died and he was adopted by his aunt and uncle
From what I have seen, this is the quintessential fan theory regarding Will's parents. In this theory, Will's parents died when he was young and he was adopted by his extended family, ala his aunt and uncle. From there, he grew up at Horseland with Bailey as his adoptive brother and became part of the family business. I've seen fanfiction where they died in a car accident, they died in a storm while trail riding, etc. I've even read some where Will has siblings that he was seperated from when his parents died and who were adopted by other extended family members. Regardless, his parents are dead, potential siblings live elsewhere, and Will is an honorary member of the Handler household.
Personally, I think this theory is as popular as it is within the Horseland fandom because it readily presents an opportunity for both emotional angst and whumpfic. In fact, Disney is quite partial to using the dead parents card as a tragic backstory for its main characters. Will is an easy character in this fandom to apply this trope to as he is the only main character in Horseland whose parents are not accounted for. (That is, besides Alma's mother; she only ever mentions her father and grandparents). Now that I think about it, alot of these same theories could also fit her as well, except maybe Theory 2 and with the addition of divorce as another possibility. However, this observation does not discredit any validity this theory holds.
Theory 2: Will lives with his aunt and uncle as a job requirement to work at Horseland
In this theory, Will's parents are alive and well. So why does Will live at Horseland? Simple really. Will works with his extended family as onsite staff. Maybe Will's parents (and potential siblings) live far enough away that it makes more sense for him to just live at Horseland. They may even live in another state.
This is even more plausible if you are like me and consider Will to be over 18 yrs old (see my post about Horseland character ages).
In this, Will mostly interacts with his parents and any siblings over the phone and visits them for holidays, special events such as birthdays, graduations, weddings or funerals, or just whenever he has a large chunk of time I suppose. Just infrequent and distanced interaction may be why they are never mentioned.
Theory 3: Will has an estranged relationship with his biological parents
It's unfortunate, but some people just really don't get along well with their immediate family or aren't safe living with their biological parents for one reason or another. It could be anything from something as simple as personality differences or irreconcilable moral beliefs to horrible situations such as child abuse, alcoholism, and/or drug abuse. This can lead to one of two things. The first is the case of a child under the age of 18. In this case, if the home environment of a child is deemed unsafe, any children in the household are removed from the home by Child Protective Services (CPS), parents lose custody and/or go to jail, and the children are placed in the care of another family member or into foster care. This can also happen if the parent(s) are incarcerated for a completely unrelated reason. The other case is estranged adult children. In this case, the child becomes an adult without ever having CPS and the foster care system intervening for whatever reason and moves out, limiting or completely cutting off contact with their parent(s). If either of these is the case leading to the relationship Will has with his parents, then this may be why he lives at Horseland with his aunt and uncle and never mentions his biological parents around his "students".
Conclusion
Because of how little the show actually tells us about the state of the relationship Will has with his parents and any potential siblings, all three of these theories are equally plausible and one can make an argument for any of them. I think all three of them could easily be used in fanfiction as interesting plot devices, and I would be overjoyed to read any of them (although theory 1 is already beating out 2 and 3 in that scope). So now I open the floor to y'all. Which theory do you think is the most plausible? Did I miss any other possible explanations for why Will lives at Horseland and his immediate family is never mentioned?

DeFord Bailey (December 14, 1899 — July 2, 1982) a Country Music Pioneer was born in Carthage, Tennessee. Stricken with infantile paralysis at the age of three, he was given a harmonica. He never grew taller than four feet, ten inches. His skill with the harmonica and his musical talent gained him renown in country music.
He composed harmonica tunes based on the sound of rushing locomotives. A white storekeeper hired him to entertain customers with his harmonica. He moved to Nashville where he continued playing the harmonica for street audiences.
He won second place in a French harp contest on WDAD Radio. He played his rendition of “It Ain’t Gonna Rain No More.” He made his first appearance on Nashville’s WSM Radio, after overcoming some racial opposition from the station’s director. He was given the title “Harmonica Wizard.”
He recorded eight titles for the Brunswick label. He recorded for Victor Records during a Nashville session. “Ice Water Blues/Davidson County Blues” became so popular that the Victor label released it three times.
He toured the South with the leading stars of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1930s. He was well-received by country music fans, but racial segregation laws caused problems in hotels and restaurants. He had to pose as a baggage handler for the white performers.
His popularity peaked in the late 1930s. During one three-hour Grand Ole Opry show, he was allowed a notable twenty-five-minute performance. By 1941, he was off the Opry. For the next thirty years, he shined shoes at his small shop in Nashville. He reemerged as a performer in the mid-1960s, playing on local television. He made a rare concert appearance at Vanderbilt University. He had returned to the Grand Ole Opry and even celebrated his seventy-fifth birthday. His last performance at the Grand Ole Opry House was on April 3, 1982.
On June 23, 1983, the country music industry celebrated him as the first African-American star of the Grand Ole Opry. The mayor unveiled a plaque in his honor, and a monument was placed at his gravesite. His memorabilia was presented to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence
