Miraculous Ladybug AU where, like in the deleted scene from the movie, Marinette only recently moved to Paris from China so she barely speaks any French. And all of Paris thinks Ladybug is this cold, calculating, silent badass cause she never speaks in interviews, leaving Chat Noir to do enough talking for both of them.

Until one day, Chat Noir is all like "My dear, dear, lady. We have been working together for so long, and I've come to believe we are close. But you never talk to me. You never respond to my jokes. You never consider my flirts. You never fill me in on your plans. Did I do something to upset you? Please, if so, let me atone. Let us be friends and partners, M'lady" And Ladybug just looks at him for a while before saying, in very broken French. "My... French... very bad..." and Chat Noir has to reconsider everything he thought he knew about Ladybug. Then they both realize they speak Mandarin Chinese and just start blabbering on and on to each other during fights and patrols.

Which then gives Adrien the idea to approach the weirdly quiet girl in his class to see if she maybe also doesn't know French. Blah blah, Adrien and Mari talk all the time and Marinette gets better at French cause of him.

Miraculous Ladybug Superhero Outfits Ranking

Since Season 6 is fast approaching, and we will get some much-needed redesigns for the main hero cast, I decided to review the main superhero outfits from the past seasons and rank them according to my opinion.

Small warning... there will be a lot of salt in some of this. and I will be using some of @zoe-oneesama 's designs for Scarlet Lady as a comparison.

Without further ado... time to start this mess of a list

24- Argos

Where do I even start...

Well, I can start by saying that... NOTHING in his design works. It's painful to just look at.

The shade of green chosen doesn't clash well with the blue of the peacock. The green hair and the blue skin so close to each other makes the combo even worse.

The saturation of the blue isn't good either. If they wanted something more formal to Felix, they should have gine with a darker blue, Like Mayuras, or, Scarlet Lady's Blue blood.

My biggest problem with this design is the green, though. The moss tone, instead of some more vibrant just makes the design weird to me.

Also, why do all the Peacock holders skin turn blue when they transform? This doesn't happen with any other miraculous.

If Felix kept his hair and eye color, used a mask instead of a hood, used darker blues, and, MAYBE, some brighter shades of green, the design would work.

But this?!

It's painful to even look at it.

23- Ryuko

... Can someone explain me how a hero that has a DRAGON theme look so boring?

Just like a good majority of miraculous holders, her outfit is just a tight jumpsuit with little characterization...

Ryuko's, however, is specially bad, because, due to having the same color pallete of Ladybug, it feels unoriginal.

So, besides it being a simple jumpsuit like many other outfits I don't like, it also feels uncreative, which makes it love some points.

Besides using SL!Ryuko as a reference to what it could be... I would like to talk about one of my favorite ryuko redesigns.

One created by my friend @natedogx15 . Like, he used the fact that she was basically a knight, and made her outfit look like armor. Look at how badass it is!

It's said that canon Ryuko's design is basically ladybug's color pallete with some details to try to make it different.

22- Ladybug

This one was pretty obvious.

The suit is way too basic, especially considering that the hero behind the mask is a fashion designer.

It's also way to tight and it feels inappropriate for a girl Marinette's age to use.

It gets even worse if we remember that she was inspired by Spider-Man...

Like, seriously, this feels like a weird pajama a kid would wear. And even then, the PJ kids had better designs.

21- Chat Noir

The same problems that I have with Ladybug's design are here.

Basic and overly tight suit, that feels innapropriate for Adrien's age. And, although I think the Bell it's silly... it's what helps to keep this design from being entirely bland.

And hey, the green eyes are interesting, at least...

Still, it's not a design I like. They could have gone with something similar to Black Panther or Batman. But, instead... they chose this.

20- Miss Hound

Behold, the most uninspired design of miraculous ever!

It's literally just Sabrina's civilian outfits with a few differences. It's only a bit higher on the list because, the outfit is indeed more creative IN COMPARISON with the other hero outfits, and I like the beret.

But, seriously, Miss Hound design shows how little the show cares about Sabrina.

Her first, and main akuma, doesn't have an actual design, the second is a bit ugly, and the hero outfit is basically the civilian outfit with a new texture.

As a Sabrina Stan, I have to say... the girl deserved more.

19- Bunnix

Fun fact about me: I am a BIG Alice in Wonderland Fan. I also love this shade of blue... and that's why Bunnix's canon's design is disappointing to me.

The outfit is generic, I can barely see anything that reminds me of Alix, it has no reference to any card suit...

It just feels unispired, specially considering how good it could have been.

If it is Alice in Wonderland inspired, Bunnix could have a top hat, a coat like the white rabbits... but, it's just... nothing. inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Bunnix could wear a top hat and a coat like the white rabbits, but... there is nothing.

18- Minotaurox

Minotaurox is... an interesting case for me.

Because, honestly, I kind of like the design. Speically when people draw it on 2D.

But, a problem that the show has it's the rendering of uniform with darker colors... especially this shade of blue and black.

This colors just feel... lifeless in a way. They don't shine, or captivate... they are just there...

I just hope that, with the new animation style, the darker colors on the heroes look better.

17- Multimouse

Man, I don't get the fandom's love for Multimouse. It's not a bad design, but... it isn't good either.

I like the use of the colors, the hairstyle, and yes, it looks more creative than Ladybug's, but that's not saying much.

But, I also understand that they couldn't complicate the design too much because of how many fusions there were in the episode.

That being said... Multimouse is an acceptable design. Not amazing, but, okay.

16- Purple Tigress

Although I don't think the design is bad... it suffers from a problem of similarity.

Similar to how Ryuko's uniform looks too much like Ladybug's, Purple Tigress's looks too much like Rena Rouge.

Like, it's a lighter tone in the front, the main color of the miraculous is on the sides and back, and the character, who has her hair down on the civillian form, gets a ponytail after transformation.

Although I understand that Ponytails are probably more practical in battles... Purple Tigress and Rena Rouge's look too much alike.

I do admit I like the stripes. But, besides that, it's very unoriginal.

Particularly speaking, I like the jacket that Zoe gave her with the power up look.

15- Rena Rouge

Although it's not the worst design on the show, it's probably one of the most disappointing.

It looks too much like Volpina, and, even if Volpina's design was supposed to look like a fox holder, it doesn't mean that Rena Rouge couldn't look a bit more different.

Like, Queen Bee and Vesperia are both bee heroes. But, they look nothing alike.

Particularly speaking, I would have replaced the weird corset thing with a reporter trench coat.

Imagine a Trench Coat like this with the fox tail at the end? And the hat with the ears? I just think it would be neat.

14- Flairmidable

Flairmidable's design is one that... I don't care about.

It's very similar to Chat Noir's, it's true, but the use of colors make it more interesting. And it doesn't look as tight as Chat's uniform.

And that's what I have to say about the design.

It's not bad, but, I don't care.

13- Polymouse

Although it is a pretty generic design, there are certail elements that I like.

The change on hair and eye color, the mask, the ears on the hoodie.

And, once again, Zoe's redesigns proved that the concept could have worked.

12- Canigirl

Honestly, it's kind of a good design.

I like how it uses the colors brown, black and white to create it's combo. The mask is adorable.

And I like the detail of the black spot at the beret.

Kind of sad that her design is more creative than the one of the official Dog Hero.

11- Pigella

From now on, the designs are actually good, in my opinion.

Pigella's design is great. It's different from the usual jumpsuits, it reflects Rose's nature, and the ballerina tutu is great touch.

My only issue with it is that it doesn't feel like a Pig themed superhero.

Either way, it's one of the best female designs on the show.

10- Aspik

Although many people complain on the whole "bald thing", I don't think Aspik is a bad design.

He looks like a snake, has some cool patterns and textures on the outfit, and I like the color pallete.

Like, yeah, it would probably look cooler if Adrien showed his hair, but, it's not all bad.

9- King Monkey

It's a good design. Definetely not a jumpsuit, it has good sources of inspiration, it looks like a monkey...

It's one of the best designs on the show. It just isn't higher due to personal taste.

8- Carapace

It's a good design as well. It fits Nino's aesthetic, it's an outfit that has a clear turtle theme, and the details like the boots, and the knee and the elbow pads.

In general, it's good as well.

7- Viperion

Like Aspik, Viperion's uniform has some cool patterns and textures. But, besides them matching Luka more, his hair is the same color of his outfit, which I think it's neat.

6- Queen Bee

This design is iconic, and it has it's reasons!

The way it uses stripes, the subtle but noticeable change on the ponytail.

Out of the five, in my opinion, she has the best design.

5- Pegasus

Man, they were creative with this one.

Although his name is Pegasus, his shoes are a reference to Hermes, his uniform looks a bit like an armor (which makes sense, because he is kind of a knight), and the horseshoe on his neck.

They put a lot of effort on his design.

4- Vesperia

I used to be a bit mean with this design... but I noticed that it wasn't the designs fault, but the animation.

Like, there are scenes where the outfit looks great, and others where it doesn't. But, it's mostly because of the rendering.

The uniform is actually very creative, and it's really cool how they manage to create something so different from Queen Bee.

MY only issues are the masks and the black streaks on her hair. They... don't look that good in the show.

3- Rooster Bold

This design is FIRE!

The way they manage to incorporate so many Rooster details, like the claw, the beak, the comb and the tail.

Besides, it's different from every single other hero. It almost looks like a carnival costume on the best way possible.

2- Scarabella

Behold, the best Ladybug holder design.

This one feels like it's inspired by Spiderman.

The upper part looking like a jacket, the use of black, the hair... it's all so creative.

It's one of the few canon designs I don't think that could be improved.

1- Caprikid

This design had no right of being this good. But, it is.

The white and black contrast, the zipper, the fur, the horn. Just like Rooster Bold, it is also way different than the jumpuit pattern.

I only wished that they played more with Nath's hairstyle. Like, his miraculous is a pair of hair clips, and they do nothing with his hair...

But, still, out of all miraculous heroes, he has the best suit... in my opinion, a least.

My First Social Interaction In 413 Years

(page 1040-1051)

THE AIMLESS RENEGADE SHOT AT WV AND PM. I’m furious over this. There will be no forgiveness. But it makes sense that since Jack Noir was recently introduced as a potential villain for the beta kids – certainly for John, as he’s imprisoning his dad – we are getting a villain for the future folks too.

I really like the nervousness between WV and PM (p.1044) which I’m sure could be interpreted as romantic, but I personally see it as the first motions towards truce between these two different sides of a war. This might be the first time either of them has interacted with someone from the other planet in a non-hostile way. They’ve also both been wandering the wasteland without meeting anyone else in person for potentially up to 413 years, so any social interaction is probably nervewracking under those conditions – it’s not like either of them were great at interacting with the kids. These first movements towards friendship between them are very sweet.

PM’s sword is back and so badass. I think real mail workers should also be allowed to carry a sword for self defense. I hope that worm with the mailbox in its jaws is gently holding it for PM and not about to take a chomp, otherwise it’s about to have a bad time.

Page 1041 is drawn in a full color, wide brush scribbly style that was also used on page 1007, but used here for a more landscapey page (plus Jade’s ‘==> cover!’) it looks like a hybrid between the cleaner future style and Jade’s note (p.1038), further blurring the boundaries between the present and the future, between Jade and WV. Although I’m not sure what the ‘<== hurry!’ is doing, as that seems directed to PM, who hasn’t looked at the note yet so can’t be following the order.

This update also introduces some Gender. Jade refers to PM as ‘Miss Mail Lady’, and has previously called WV ‘Mister Mayor’. I think it is a little strange that a chess piece construct has a gender but I respect people’s pronouns. Later, Jade thinks that the other Prospit moon tower only differs from hers as it’s ‘home to a young boy instead of a young girl’, though I’d say the clown presence and the inhabitant being asleep are more striking differences.

@tenaciouschronicler was so right to mention keeping an eye on dichotomies, and that’s definitely a theme I want to write lots about in the future, but I’m especially interested with how dichotomies are set up and then questioned or subverted. We’re seeing this with the art style, with the different timelines, possibly with the light and dark sides of the war, and hopefully with gender (although that could be my personal bias).

I actually forgot to even speculate who or what might be in the other tower, but John being there (in a matching golden outfit!) explains this earlier conversation.

I think that awake Jade had this conversation with John, because of the Jade inequality where waking Jade seems aware of dream Jade’s existence, but the reverse doesn’t seem true – dream Jade isn’t aware of the finger reminder system (p.777, 1050). Waking Jade wants to explain the difference between these two selves to John, but she thinks John won’t believe her, because John doesn’t know about this alternate version of himself. If the dream self represents the unconscious then perhaps now that he can see the graffiti in his waking room, he’ll be ready to realize this. This means that the previous conversations Jade has with John (p.169, p.293) happen while Jade is asleep – in fact, are presumably about to happen, because she’s about to message John to ask about his present (p.1051).

Which means that the explosion Jade describes on page 169 actually happens on Prospit, possibly as a consequence of the eclipse Jade is nervous about. It also means that there is a version of Bec somewhere on Prospit, as he warns her away from investigating between the two conversations (p.293). This all calls into question my sense that Jade likes to take control of conversations, dispensing information slowly as she knows more than her friends – if her dream self isn’t even aware of her waking self’s life, and if she’s dreaming during roughly half her conversations, her information is a lot more imperfect than I thought. That’s exciting to me, and makes it well worth rereading all of Jade’s conversations and trying to figure out which Jade is talking.

Clearly, John has been within the Medium since before he entered the Medium. How long has he been here, and how does that line up with how long John and Jade have been friends while awake? Did Jade see the kid in the other tower and decide to search for him while awake using some of her powers? Or did John talking to Jade online ‘infect’ him slightly with some of her abilities and pull him under Skaia’s will? Is the whole thing a total coincidence, or is it a “coincidence”, predetermined by Skaia? Which version of Jade – awake or dreaming – was talking to John the first time they met online?

And no shit John is having troubled dreams. There’s an imp on his bed. Specifically, a black chess piece, which is unexpected on Prospit. And his graffiti is also here, so it’s a fair guess he’s dreaming about clowns. I’m thinking about how Prospit is supposed to be the planet of goodness of light, working for the righteous cause of protecting Skaia, but Jade and John both go through some rough stuff. Even if it can’t extend to waking life, I’d expect a place like this to guard its wards from unpleasant dreams, and one single imp doll should not be able to overpower the entire planet. So what’s going on? What are the secret dark sides to this luminous planet?

Page 1051 (below) has to be one of the coolest visual panels so far. The white/blue to black/yellow transition, with Jade hovering bravely between the two planets bringing the colors from the bottom section into the top, and the geometric reflections of Prospit superimposed on the swirling clouds, are all stunning and make the eclipse feel like an important moment.

a quick meta on "femme fatale" lightning

lightning being dubbed a femme fatale makes me horny because they very much did not have to, and yet they designate the title to her explicitly, and that makes her unique among ff women. (to no degree are those other ladies going out slaughtering, threatening, and seducing men like lightning is canonically described and witnessed doing.)

the crux of why lightning makes this epithet so sexy is that she can operate under all the dark femininity it bestows while simultaneously living a heroic, stolid persona of toughness traditionally afforded to men, therefore reaching her unique brand of androgyny. 

her femme fatale journey starts with lightning initially being written in ffxiii with a more coy and sexy personality (“nice gun”), which they went back on to entertain less of the male gaze. she is no stranger to being a sexy badass, but where she fulfills femme fatale most is in her magnum opus, lightning returns. we’re made privy to the sins of phantom lightning, who is literally a siren-like figure that seduces and kills all hope’s scientists and lastly him. we get gothic lolita lumina. we get her hunting her sister’s ex-boyfriends. she gets a dainty little rapier called “femme fatale” which she uses to blasphemize her god-husband and save her boo brother-in-law. the weapon is so definitive of her character that it’s wielded with the outfit with the strongest narrative in her arc, and was ported to dissidia too. in ff tactics, the sword is described as especially holding “kings and kingdoms” at its whim. lightning is sexy in a man-slaughtering way that i’ll argue you can separate from the male gaze.

i love how lightning reincarnates this trope in both its historically biblical and film noir uses. lightning returns is very gothic, moody, isolationist, and film noir (hello “midnight eternal” ost). her presence in ff serves as a “stark contrast to the not-so-distant Victorian ideal of pliant femininity” and she refuses to play by society’s rules when pressed. serah is her “good woman” antithesis. where lightning deviates from the trope in film noir, is that instead of getting apprehended or killed to bring the world back to moral rights, she is in fact JESUS, and she LIVES to bring back the moral right. she is also more of a new-age femme fatale in that she’s presented as sympathetic, human, and the center of the story.

After it was confirmed that Adrien fell in love with Marinette during the embarrassing statue scene I saw a post celebrating it. Which, okay. Good for the shippers who are still on the boat.

Unfortunately, the post went on to say that Marinette should have punched Adrien in the face for pranking him, and that he would most definitely fallen DEEPER in love with her for it. Because he loves strong women.

Please can we not romanticize domestic abuse? It wasn't cute when Lady Noire called Mister Bug stupid and hit him with her staff. He seemed really upset about that.

Sorry. I just don't like the double standards. If it was a guy physically assaulting a girl, he would be villified but because it's Marinette manhandling Adrien, it's absolved.

I have to agree with you anon. Adrien loves badass women who could probably kick his ass, yeah, but that doesn't mean he wants them to do it. He doesn't like when Lady Noire hits him on the head in Refleckdoll, like you said. Honestly, the show actually tried pulling this in Glaciator 2 by having Ladybug toss Chat Noir in a trashcan, and it seemingly tried to paint it as some girlboss™ moment, but I just came out of it thinking that it was kinda... gross and awful? Because you just know that if Chat Noir had done it, everyone would be salting on him something fierce, and honestly? They would be right. I really dislike the double standards in play there, that it's somehow okay for Marinette to be physical with Adrien. It does seem like downplaying and kinda romanticizing that kind of physical violence to me, especially in the context of Adrien already being a victim of abuse.

Idk, maybe I'm just sensitive or something, but jokes about physically beating your partner make me uncomfortable. I don't mind a good "loves a woman who can kick his ass" joke, but there's a line, you know? It's just weird to me. Maybe it's just me, though, idk.

Huntlow Week Day 3: Prompt Nerds/Nature.

Willow liked Cosmic Frontier enough. At least that's what she'd told Hunter. She'd sat through all the movies and the TV series with Gus and Hunter.

She'd been happy enough to get him a bootleg version of the Cosmic Frontier Holiday Special that the creator had wanted buried forever as a gift for Bleeding Hearts Day.

But when it was announced that there would be a convention in the middle of Bonesborough that celebrated Human Realm pop-culture, Hunter was surprised when Willow suggested the two wear a "couple's costume."

"It shouldn't be a surprise, man!" Gus chuckled. "You two have been joined at the pinkies since that time at the Archives! You can go as O'Bailey and Willow can go as Hanako."

Hunter had considered it. But when it came right to it he wasn't sure it was right. After all, Willow liked Cosmic Frontier enough, but not as much as he did.

"Here's the thing." Hunter told Willow. "I wanna go with you! I wanna do the ... you know... couple's costume and stuff? B-but I know I like Cosmic Frontier more than you do?"

"Hmmmmmm. Astute as always, O'Bailey" Willow tapped Hunter's temple playfully. "So here we have a bit of a dilemma. We are both nerds. But what we need to find is that sweet spot where our nerdoms meet in that perfect intersection that the costume would work for both of us."

"Understood." Hunter nodded tersely. He pulled out a notebook and a pen. "Okay. I was thinking we could be Leia Organa and Han Solo..."

On the notebook, Hunter scratched out the words "Leia and Han."

"Oh! That's a good one." Willow cooed. "But one problem. Which one of us is Leia and which one is Han."

"That's a tough one." Hunter mused. "I mean, we're both badasses. And they're both badasses. And we could both rock those costumes."

"True." Willow nodded. "Our dual badassets transcend gender norms."

"But if we're gonna do a Star Wars costume, I kinda wana have a lightsaber, and Leia and Han don't use one in the Original Trilogy... and I don't wanna get into an argument with Jerbo about EU and Legends canon again, so maybe we should hold off on that." Hunter let out a grunt.

"Fair." Willow nodded. "We don't need you and Jerbo to go down that road again."

"We could do Chat Noir and ... you know..." Hunter offered.

"Even though she's not an actual Ladybug, I don't think I've got it in me." Willow bit her lip. "Sorry."

Hunter wrote down "Lady Bug and Chat Noir" and then promptly crossed it out.

"How about Rory Williams and Amy Pond?" Willow smiled. She extended a gentle finger to his nose and gave him a soft boop.

Hunter laughed, just a bit -- then his eyes grew real serious. Too serious. Silly serious. Running his fingers through his hair Hunter gave wink and something that Willow called "Duck Lips".

"You dork!" Willow snorted. "What are you doing!"

"I'm imagining the costume." Hunter raised his chin with confidence and gave double finger guns. "Yeah. I could totally rock a Roman Centurion look"

"Yeah you could." Willow giggled. She returned his wink and his finger guns, and flexed her bicep which made Hunter's smirk falter slightly. "But you know," Willow said hotly, "I'd be the one waiting for centuries to protect you."

With a moment Hunter's mask of confidence slipped. He felt his eyes grow soft. His ears heated up and he couldn't help but reach out to cup Willow's round face as if she was made of the very porcelain of a teacup. "I would protect you too." He murmured. "We could protect each other."

"Oooooohhhhhh." Willow gasped.

"Speechless, captain?" Hunter's smirk was back. "Because you know I would."

Willow released a breath. Fanning herself dramatically she took Hunter's arm and dropped a kiss right in the middle of his wrist. Right on that awful sigil -- and for a moment it almost felt as if his former life had dissolved under the soft brush of her lips.

"Who's speechless now?" Willow lilted.

In spite of the heat in his stomach, Hunter felt a bit of ice track down his spine. "Maaaaaaaybe we're not ready for those costumes just yet!" He laughed. "B-but we can put it on a list for a future con?"

Willow nodded slowly. "Sound's perfect." She agreed.

"So, we know what we're not gonna do." Hunter mused, "But we still need a costume. We all know Luz and Amity are -"

"Gonna be Azura and Hecate." Willow agreed.

"Classic." Hunter nodded. "But what's classic us?"

They looked at their hands. Fingers intertwined like lace. Like a tiny flame between them. And then? A small smile played upon Hunter's lips.

"Do you trust me?" He asked gently.

"Pfft. Yeah." Willow nodded. "With my everything, guy!"

Willow slipped into the long sea green dress. The sleeves were perfectly puffed at the top. Her neck fastened with smart buttons. Her boots tapped on the ground as she slipped out from behind the changing screen. Placing the round woven hat with a red ribbon on her head she strode out to meet her match.

And Hunter? He looked nothing less than pure magic. Leaning against Willow's dresser in long black slacks, a white gauze shirt and a pink and blue checkered cloak with a red lining. He wore a concealment stone on a rope on his neck that made his hair appear just a bit longer.

And when he rose to meet his witch? Hunter greeted her appropriately. He said, "There you are, sweetheart, sorry I'm late. I was looking everywhere for you."

a very official and unserious ranking of chinese mini-dramas I've watched. Mini-drama = 5-15 min episodes. Color coded "sets" that had same actor or writer.

1. Night of Love with You (2022) - the unbeatable. the ULTIMATE. villain 4 villain romance with a protagonist who knows she is in a manga series... but something has gone wrong, because how did she and the heroic female lead get switched this time?!

2. Provoke (2023) - Republican era noir revenge saga. Unresolved sexual tension. Glamour. Great lighting. Hot people in period costume giving VIBES. She married her mortal enemy as a concubine and keeps a murderboard. I'm in love w her.

3. The Deliberations of Love (2023) - Married consort of a prince dies with him due to the struggle for the throne. Then she wakes up in the past, only for this ambitious idiot to get them killed again! Receiving yet another chance after 2 awful deaths, she's determined to choose life over love and not marry into the royal family again. But it's not quite so simple... especially when the prince starts to feel echoes of their past life together. The romantic chemistry is what sells this lil tropey drama. She keeps subconsciously drifting back into acting like his familiar spouse and then he starts vibing too.

4. A Familiar Stranger (2022) - Like with Provoke, I think everyone's seen this one? Conniving prime ministers daughter face-switches an innocent girl who is searching for her sister and pining away for this hot general who saved her once. Wow what luck, the horrible marriage the prime minister's daughter wanted to escape is with her dream man. This all sounds very wtf but this director x screenwriter combo creates these moody pieces that have a certain dream logic.

5. Zhang Gong Zhu Zai Shong (2022) - The emperor's sister is tyrannical and keeps a stable of hot men. Political intrigue ensues. ngl this one is real choppy but is ranked high due to my bias for achingly hot leading ladies who step on a breathless delicate ML. 🔥 She makes me SWEAT.

6. The Killer is Also Romantic (2022) - Mr and Mrs Smith in costume drama imperial era china. It should be higher, but for an English speaker it's dragged down the list by terrible subs.

7. My Decoy Bride (2023) - Hidden identities, assassin marries her target in imperial era china. Same male actor as Deliberations of Love who builds good energy with his costars. But less budget, worse subs, choppy editing. Still fun. Probably ranked way too high but idc I was entertained.

8. Dong Lan Xue (2023) - 3 min episodes of broken Murder Couple ❤. The slighted 7th prince and his ex-prostitute maid who are out for blood & revenge. (It's that badass lady & her delicate suitor again. Love this webisode pair. love herrrrrrrrr)

9. Miss Mystery (2023) - Republican era revenge drama in a similar vein as Provoke but lacking it's elite lighting, sets, & cinematography. To her it's Fake Marriage but he agrees because he liiiiikes her. The couple has chemistry, gives good power-couple, and the FL is out for bloody revenge. It's a fun ride. But the writing isn't as strong as Provoke and the uneven acting of the supporting cast drags it down the list.

10. What's Wrong with My Princess (2023) - The standard reborn revenge tale played straight. Female general helped a prince fight for the throne, then he & her sister have her murdered when vulnerable and pregnant. Gasp! She wakes up years earlier on her wedding day to this other prince she'd married once, only to kill for her evil lover boy. Now she plots the downfall of lover boy & her sis, joining hands with the husband she betrayed the 1st time around. It's... exactly what it sounds like lol. Nothing stands out and the script is a string of tropes. But it delivers exactly what it promises.

11. Everlasting Bride (2023) - Republican era revenge with added spy games. Like Miss Mystery & Provoke, strong character intros & first meeting. They're mysterious and well-dressed and dangerous to know. More polished than Miss Mystery. The leads here are more filtered and more conventionally attractive. But I have to admit that there's a charm about how rough around the edges Miss Mystery is. And I like the lead actress in Miss Mystery a lot more. The first 3rd is pretty fire, then it lost steam for me.

12. Forever Love (2023) - It's that smoldering guy from Maid's Revenge (absent from this list because due to crap ending). Absolutely extra in every way, a tropey hormonal mess, to the point one can argue it circles back around to be ART. Female protagonists for 1-10 are all great & fun. Alas I can't say the same for #12. 💀

Haven't Finished:

Butterfly Lover (2023) - I have a serious hate for open-endings and I heard this has one, so I paused on it. It's from that amazing director&screenwriter combo, though (Provoke, Familiar Stranger, Killer is also Romantic...). So I know it's worth watching.

Romantic aka Love Strikes Back (2023) - I started this but stalled out. idk it wasn't compulsively watchable for me. Other people loved it.

Mlb S5 Plot musings

I know I'm probably a year late to the party, but from reading around, I'm remembering how people say T. A. meddled yet again in the writing of season 5, and now it's stinkingly obvious on the rewatch.

It's not just that what they said would happen didn't happen, or that they'd lied (because they didn't), it's that the foreshadowing couldn't be passed off as anything else. You can't get any more obvious than the villain declaring he'd use Marichat's feelings against each other in episode 9. Than the kwami talking about the end of the world happening if Lady Noir tell each other their identities, but reassuring with saying nothing would happen because Marinette is hopeless with love.... So the love happens (the cause), and then the effect (end of the world), but not the thing that makes it make sense.

What would've been especially cool, with Nathalie watching Emilie's videos in secret, is if it had led to more than her threatening Gabriel with a crossbow (which was badass but like, it's a kid's show, she's not going to murder him 😅) - it would be her finding out Adrien's identity and KEEPING IT from Gabriel, even if it's for her own means, instead of betraying him instantly with a phone call. It would have shown direct growth and her ability to defy him more obviously.

I wonder what she would have wanted to do with the miraculouses herself - would she have brought back Emilie but sacrificed Gabriel? Adrien wouldn't forgive her for that though, I guess.

I'm so utterly obsessed with this show because there's so much going on. The irony of its endless baiting makes it easy to ponder what used to fill in the gaps before they got yanked out. I could write endless what-ifs. It's eating away at my brain.

But i write these posts to gather my thoughts instead of searching tags, because I can't watch the london special or season 6 in my country, and I like getting to sort out my own opinions.

Wesley. We get more screentime of him, and while I do like me a sexy badass morally dubious lady, at the end of the day Lilah still stays on the side of the Senior Partners. Wesley's moral heart is always aimed in the right direction. Ultimately my preference for morally dubious characters is that they are still on the same general side as the 'heroes' (so to speak) or at least that their heart is in the right place. But I do still love Lilah.

Angel Season 1. Season 5 has some better stand out episodes (Lineage, Time Bomb and Origin are always rewatch staples for me) but Season 1 has better cohesion and hangs together better, and is the only season when the show as a whole holds up to it's initial promise of a noir-y/detective-y grown up version of Buffy.

Reading fanfiction, because it's easier and takes less work, but then you can't find that one fanfic you know needs to exist and then you have to write it and goddamnit... :rofl:

One of my guilty pleasures is watching popular shows AFTER the popularity is all gone. For example, I’m watching #Scandal. Like, THE OLIVIA POPE(!!!) for the first time ever. Don’t get me wrong, I know the outline. However, since there are no such thing as #spoilers (my opinion bc I’ve never “heard” a description that EVER does a film justice), something always gets left out. I have to see the story unfold for myself. I like to fill in my own blanks.

THIS SHOW IS GOOD!!!!

Wow. #OliviaAndFitz are actually the least interesting thing happening on this show lol. There’s always some unbelievable actual scandal going on. So far, I’ve made it into the second season and jeez! It’s free smoke for everybody. They be reading each other for fiiiiiilth!!!(I especially HATE how condescending and downright mean #Cyrus is to James). Also, is Olivia Pope a republican!?! Cuz, what!? But not surprising.

So far I really like Olivia and Cyrus’ odd couple friendship. Huck and Olivia are better friends tho. I can tell their relationship is more intimate, less transactional. lol Even when they’re pissed with each other, they’re still fiercely loyal. I hope he gets to be with his family again. The callous way Charlie tried to break him(#752 🥹), I hope he die real slow. Somebody gon have to pop his ass. I can’t believe I’m only on season 2. Speaking of which, I’ve just gotten to where Eli Pope reveals himself to Cyrus. Olivia doesn’t know…yet. Looking forward to that. Most importantly, it seems like everybody run the White House EXCEPT the president. Specifically, #Mellie, Olivia, and Cyrus.

This is def not everything I’ve noticed/seen BUT I am getting sleepy, finally(!). My sleep’s been better these past couple of nights. I guess political dramas lull me 😂😂😂. I’m glad to have another insomnia treatment.

Oh yeah, Fitz is a immature DICK. Even tho I’m only on S2, something tells me that will be consistent throughout the series.

Finally have made it to season 6. Lemme just once again say, THIS IS A GOOD ASS SHOW!!!!

First of all, so glad Olivia and Fitz did not get a happy ending. They didn’t deserve it. Cyrus really got what was coming to him and it was sad but also not really. Too much blood on his hands AND he’s a deadbeat/absentee father!!!! Like, he had no concern about Ella at all. Too busy scheming smh.

Abby is a dick. Lowkey, and now majorly highkey you can see how envious/resentful she is of Olivia. That can happen when you feel indebted to someone. Also, take Olivia off the pedestal lol cuz she def be fuxking up to. Fitz is painfully…MEDIOCRE. And also co-dependent. Like he can’t function without a women around men…managing him. I can’t believe how corrupt this firecr**ch ass bitch became. Also, tho if these the same people who have manage to (somewhat)muzzle Rowan, then I get it. The scary lady who’s name i don’t know, is the actress who plays the mom in #YoungSheldon lmao seeing Mary Cooper be a badass is sendiiiiing me 😂😂😂. “Ms. Majorie Ruland”, and ole boy really knew how to tap into Abby’s insecurities.

RIP HUCK!!!! 🥺😡🥺🥺 …..sike! That was a damn good plot twist. But my boy should stick to his guns. A lesson in trusting your instincts. Had Olivia not started questioning her most loyal friend, I don’t think this would’ve happen. But I knew that girl was a weirdo. And he did to. Of course tho, Olivia couldn’t see the forest for the trees. At least not when it comes to her father.

Mellie is president! And a damn good one. Quinn and Charlie being badass vigilante murderers, who make a kid 🥹🥹🥹>>>>>. That damn Cyrus ain’t NEVA leaving the White House. He should have his own wing atp. Seeing Olivia become Eli is cray. She don’t even wear white anymore!!! But Noir Olivia does have much better hair. Lol. I’m so glad Abby is back in the also(it’s lowkey still fuck her tho). I feel like Olivia is gonna snap. And I’m so ready.

Comic Log: Birds of Prey by Gail Simone

While Birds of Prey is not my absolute favorite thing I read this year, I think what makes it soar is Simone's character writing, as she really manages to reinvent or each character she puts her hands on. We get some of the best fleshing out of Barbara Gordon/Oracle as a protagonist, she gives Huntress an opportunity to shine and step out of Batman's shadow and also display some personality besides just being angry and pitifully needy, and Black Canary is made into a Grade-A badass rather than a secondary player or a supporting cast member. And even better, Simone brings them all into compelling relationships with one another. (Not to mention the incorporation of a roster of other great DC heroines, though I think their presence is not as consistently successful compared to these other three. But Big Barda is awesome!)

It's a bit cheesy in a variety of ways - the "Fabio"esque Savant and his stoic gay companion Creote feels incredibly 2000s, as well as the heavy reliance on "cheesecake" imagery in the covers and panels - but in that way it kind of evokes something like a very lightly elevated Charlie's Angels or Buffy. It's pulpy genre fiction (espionage, martial arts, noir) tethered together by a strong central cast. It's also comparable to something like Claremont's X-Men, where various plot and character points are gradually seeded in order to pay off later, so it feels like a mostly contiguous story.

That last sentence mostly describes the first two thirds of Simone's run, from #56-90. Then the series hits the DC editorial period of "One Year Later," a flash-forward paired with some interesting status quo shakeups. That starts out okay with an arc about Black Canary and Lady Shiva swapping positions for a time which is pretty fun. But after Black Canary leaves the team, the cast balloons in a way that feels rather claustrophobic (though there are some highlights like Big Barda), and some of the annoying horny stuff gets dialed up too much for my tastes (like Huntress and Catman having a thing, lol). The final two arcs also revolve around the extremely annoying antagonist of "Spy Smasher," a rival to Oracle who is very poorly characterized, and the resolution to that conflict is deeply unsatisfying. This last third is a bit of a letdown and feels quite overstuffed and rushed. but still an enjoyable ride!

Favorite arc/issue: "Sensei and Student," which sees Black Canary teamed up with Lady Shiva and (sort of) Cheshire, Oracle put into an incredibly tight spot as she's dogged by the American government, and Huntress being cool as hell. I also enjoyed "The Battle Within," a brief period where Huntress separates from the team to go after the Gotham mob while the other Birds surreptitiously maneuver to support her.
