This girl who's entering this top secret base could be thinking of 101 other things right now such as "omg I'm a spy now!!" Or "I wonder what the other spies are gonna be like?" Or pretty much ANYTHING else at all but her mind wanders to Cardan.

I've done one of these before, but I have thought of new options.

You are walking through the woods (as you do) when you encounter an unnaturally spindly and yet elegant 9 foot tall elven humanoid among the trees. They move slowly and smile pleasantly at you. The Fae have a reputation for being quite tricky,

their fickleness is often followed by a hickey.

To them, your body is a poem yet to be written,

To turn the tables, to make them stutter and blush,

trace those lovely pointed ears, it gives them a rush.

Their clever fingers always find a game to play,

usually those games lead to staying in bed all day.

Unless you are ready, do not give a Fae your name,

giving instead of telling is all they need to lay a claim.

Only do this when you both are ready to commit,

in a new relationship there is much a Fae will omit.

When you are both ready what an occasion it will be,

a ceremony with flowers everywhere the eye can see.

If you are seeking nothing more than a fling,

a Fae will still treasure you, even without a ring.

🐸 Good Faeries/ Bad Faeries by Brian Froud

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I meant to read Froud’s book “Faeries” first since that is his definitive collection of Faerie lore, but I acquired this one first and I was too impatient to wait. Anyway! This lovely and fun book is filled to the brim with Froud’s art and thoughtful descriptions as he brings life to the faeries around him, you, and me.

Particularly, I liked the Frog Queen the best, although I often see her counterpart- the Toad Queen- in my own yard.
