#back when i got into dgm it was one of the most popular manga of its time

Note
DGM is one of the best stories out there but the anime was a mixed bag and Hallow was a disaster. I feel like a lot of midtier or outright garbage get so much more hype because the manga gets lucky and gets a great anime adaptation that carries it to success while not bringing anything new or thoughr provoking to the table.
Oh man, yeah, definitely agreed.
like i don't even speciffically want to dig at those anime, but it's clear that dgm wasn't dealt a good hand on this one.
The first anime is really a mixed bag, i find it very hard to watch at time, the begining is a slog to get through and the amount of fillers are throwing the anime out of balance. There's very good elements in it, especially once the anime gets a better budget (i was rewatching Allen's "death" scene the other day and i still got chill from it), but it takes a lot to get through.
dgm is already a story that does starts a bit slowly, and i think the manga especially manages to pace it well because you're taken by the gothic atmosphere, and the anime slugs a bit on this regard.
dgm06 is still an old anime but yeah it doesn't hold as well as what other juggernaut of the time period who still had their fillers but managed to pace things differently at the time.
Then, of course, the fact it basically disappeared in 2010 basically had the original anime suffer from people not coming back to it in ways longer series have managed to keep a good legacy despite similar problems.
and then there's Hallow which is. really not good and it's really frustrating. It was kinda frustrating ngl to see the anime studio that gave us Hallow manage to do a really good reboot of Fruits Basket a few years later, and to see how FB is now getting its proper legacy back on track thanks to a good new version, while Hallow pretty much tanked the series by the skipping, rushing, and also by being inaccessible to newcomers.
And it's just. Sad. DGM was so influencial at the time, and even now (hell i mentioned the other day, but jjk's mangaka is a massive dgm fan (he namedropped Hoshino inside of his manga by quoting one of her dgm's author quote, calling her a genius), and so i would be willing to say the similitudes jjk shares with dgm are made on purpose. And it's bittersweet to see it's one of the most popular manga of our current time while dgm is barely even acknowledged these days), and it's just made very hard to access by how dated and clunky the anime is.
And don't get me started on how we have a massive problem regarding the translation of the manga that's. all over the place, at least as English fandom goes, in between the early censorship from the Viz translations to just how tricky dgm can be, it really makes dgm hard to access at time and it leaves us in such a weird situation.
It's just so sad.
And while i adore dgm i also don't want to build it up to anyone in ways that would get them too much expectations, or that would make the flaws more noticeable, so i don't want to say it's like this hidden flawless masterpiece, but it's also such a special manga that the fact it lost so much of his legacy with the years is genuinely tragic to me.
A good anime can really truly make or unmake the legacy of a manga, and dgm was dealt a very bad hand on this one, it's truly tragic. It's so sad.
At least the OST was a banger.......
#ichareply#anonymous#ichafantalks dgm#back when i got into dgm it was one of the most popular manga of its time#now all the big names that stood beside it are still remembered and dgm basically is getting forgotten and it's so.#so sad.

D.Gray-Man Chapter 231 Translation Notes
Hi DGMers! jeidafei from Kougeki Scans here. I’m a total newbie to scanlation and I’ve never made my own note before. However, I’ve read all THREE versions of the DGM translation for reference, (This just goes to show this fandom’s undying love for the subject matter) and noticed some discrepancies between scan groups...
Not to say who is wrong or right, as translators are also humans (unless AI got over its Google Translate phase and take over our jobs someday!) with different experiences and backgrounds, and as such there is no such thing as right or wrong in a translation.
So, in addition to my translation, I would also like to give readers the opportunity to interpret things freely without the language barrier as well, and maybe share some of my knowledge regarding Japan and the Japanese language accumulated from over a decade of learning Japanese (mostly through D.Gray-Man and Ghibli animes XD) and around three years of living, studying and working full-time in Japan.
1. “生々流転” (seiseiruten or shoujouruten)
The cover art is mind-blowingly beautiful this time. So much so that I’ve been secretly wondering whether Hoshino-sensei spent even more time on the cover than the actual content itself and that’s why we have 20 instead of, like, 40 pages.
Anyway, it also gives us this little conundrum...
@panthaleia has already done a marvelous analysis here and you should check it out! so I won’t be going into details much; I would just like to give you a definition and leave it to your imagination. I admit I’m pretty much stumped by this as it isn’t clear what exactly Hoshino-sensei is referring to by this concept.
Japanese culture and language takes heavy influence from Chinese since ancient times, and there are plenty of these four-letter Chinese idioms in daily use, called 四字熟語 (Yojijukugo), some of which can be challenging for non-native learnersーand even the Japanese themselvesーto fully grasp its concept, considering the wealth of yojijukugo-themed dictionaries and games published in Japan.
The Japanese definition of 生々流転 goes as follows:
すべての物は絶えず生まれては変化し、移り変わっていくこと。▽「生生」は物が次々と生まれ育つこと。「流転」は物事が止まることなく移り変わっていく意。「生生」は「しょうじょう」とも読む。 (source)
A compilative translation of the above and other versions in the source would be nothing is unchanging; all existence is born, constantly changes (and dies) in a cycle that repeats itself endlessly. The emphasis seems to be put on the term of “constant change” and the “neverending cycle” of all existence, rather than the birth and death of living beings, however, and thus I believe my own and Mangastream’s translation of it as “Circle of Life” may not be comprehensive of what Hoshino-sensei is trying to convey.
In my opinion, it could either be interpreted literally to mean the cycle and flow of energy and soul-force that Past!Allen had mentioned to Nea all those years ago, or considering the plot of the current chapter it can also refer to the story coming full circle and returning to the point of its birth, by taking Allen back to Eddystone...Edinston...Edinburgh...Edinsーargh dammit I give upーwhere his story began with his meeting with Mana Walker.
Speaking of which...
2. The Town Where Allen Began
Mangastream called it Eddingston. Starbuds called it Edinston. The D.Gray Wikia adopted Edinstown and that’s what I decided to go with for now.
However, the actual Japanese text is エディンストン, phonetically E-din-su-ton. Thus, the most phonetically accurate would probably be Starbuds’ Edinston. Edinstown can be transliterated back into Japanese as エディンスタウン, whereas Eddingston would probably be エッディングストン to the Japanese folk (I’ve highlighted the difference in spelling).
There you go! Now y’all can call it whichever way you want!
3. Why is Allen so alarmed?
Right after Mana said that he draws all those little “I am here”s like a street graffiti punk so God would be able to find him, Allen looked as if he had recalled something significant. Seeing as Allen is about to tell the tale of his beginnings, this would probably be clarified in the next chapter. However, in my opinion, Mana saying “so he would be able to find me” is reminiscent of this sentence back in Reverse: Lost Fragment of Snow:
Back when he still remembers Nea and his purpose of searching for him, Mana was taking every measure to make sure Nea recognizes him, as he now looks different from his 17-year-old self. Sure, Mana might actually be referring to God this time as he said it; we’d never know until the next chapter at the least, but the memory of Mana’s words back at the circus must have been what shook Allen to the core.
4. はじまり
The term はじまり (hajimari) or “the beginning” seems to be the central theme in this chapter; appearing on the cover page, the first page and the last page of last chapter, emphasizing the fact that both Allen and the plot has now come full circle and returned to where “Allen” began.
This cliffhanger freaks me out though, as I couldn’t see how Hoshino-sensei could tell Allen’s story without repeating Reverse: Lost Fragment of Snow, as that is stated to be the story of how Allen came to be:
Anyway, my fear and frustration of waiting-six-months-for-new-developments aside, hajimari is a very popular to the point of cliched concept in Japan, in my opinion. If you go to karaoke in Japan and type in hajimari in the machine, it would come up with a SH*T TON of songs containing hajimari in the song name, with hajimari no uta (The song of beginnings) and hajimari no basho (The place where it all began, which is also mentioned in this chapter) being some of the most repetitive.
As much as the cherry blossoms are a symbol of Japanese culture, the Japanese people themselves regard the month when the cherry blossoms bloom, April, and the season of Spring, as the marker of new beginnings, of significant turning points in life. The start of school term, start of fiscal year, start of working life and end of childhood, Your Lie in April , etc. all happen in April.
This phenomenon is especially remarkable in Japan. Being the country of uniformity, virtually every school and workplace throughout the country would start their activities in April.
In my experience, Japanese aesthetics revolve around the changing seasons and times a lot, and countless pop songs that are released around March-April would sing of the blooming cherry blossoms swaying to the wind and new beginnings for students graduating from high school or university. In the same manner, songs coming out in Winter would feature slower melodies and the distinctive, ringing, Christmas-ey chime from the likes of music boxes, glockenspiels, triangles or celestas, and songs released in Summer would usually be quicker, livelier with lyrics retelling a fun trip to the beach, firework shows and sunshine (-and bikinis, if you’re listening to AKB48!).
To someone who came from a tropical country with three pretty much indistinguishable, unpleasant seasons (Damn-you-Summer, Damn-you-Summer-with-Rain-and-Floods and Damn-you-Summer-with-Three-Days-of-Winter), the beauty of the Japanese seasons and how the Japanese culture and lifestyle intertwine so closely with it has always fascinated and charmed me.
5. The Gratitude Dilemma
In addition to the seiseiruten conundrum, this chapter also throws up some more challenges for translators. One notable example for me being how to accurately capture the essence of this panel:
Both Starbuds and Mangastream worded this bubble very differently, and I won’t say who is the most accurate, but I will explain my choice of wording the best I can (with a few tips to weary Japanese learners along the way, hopefully). The actual Japanese raw is below:
My atrocious highlighting skills aside, we can clearly see the emphasis given to the suffix てあげよう (te-ageyou) here.
Allen didn’t say it straight out that he’s pitying Kanda or the like, but he’s using the te-ageru form, which means “ [doing something] for your sake” .
The concept of gratitude is important in a strict, seniority-based society like Japan, and accordingly there are two verb suffixes just to show gratitude: when someone else does a favor for us: te-kureru, and when we receive a favor from someone else: te-morau.
Yes, there’s a difference. And this is one of the most troublesome head-scratchers and trick-question-subjects for intermediate learners of Japanese taking the JLPT test (and translators of Japanese songs and manga as well), as to make things worse the Japanese usually omits the subject and/or object of the sentence.
My tip for making sense of this is for te-kureru, the other person must be the subject of the sentence, whereas for te-morau, I/me must be the subject.
Starting to see now why so many of my classmates gave up on Japanese and why so many anime subs/manga translations are sometimes inaccurate?
We also get another instance here:
(watashi ha kami ni) mitsukete-moraeru you ni would literally mean something along the lines of so (I) could be found by (God) for my sake. I put parentheses here to show you how both the subject and object of this sentence is omitted, and why we must be extremely careful in cases when it is less clear than this who is doing what for whom. To learners, you MUST pay attention to the conjunctions.
For the sake of convenience and more natural speech I just used so God would be able to find me.
Back to Black Allen, te-ageru or its more casual/demeaning form te-yaru, on the other hand, is used for when we’re doing a favor for someone’s sake and should be used sparingly/carefully to people of the same status or lower, as it could sound patronizing depending on context. So Allen using it to Kanda is meant to be very cheeky and infuriating, as if he’s trying to emphasize that his giving up is more out of pity/sympathy for Kanda’s hapless persistence than his own being tired of or incapable of escaping.
Because in reality it is just as he personally admitted in the earlier page: he’s got no money and cannot elude the Order without Kanda’s help, and decided to just twiddle his thumbs and wait around for now.
But food and a man’s pride are everything to Allen...
That’s all for now. I hope you enjoyed our translations. See you in three months, fellow DGMers!

All the numbers for the salty ask meme XD
Anon, you seem to know I’m a Secret Salt Queen. XD
Also, this is ALL for DGM.
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
Honestly? I may hate a few ships, but I can see the appeal of them. Even certain crack ships. Like, just because I don’t find it appealing doesn’t mean I can’t see why others might like it.
2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
The only real BRoTP I have in DGM is Allen x Lavi x Krory. I think those three are adorable together in a platonic way.
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
ROFL, YEAH. There have been a couple over the years, and some were (at the time) considered good friends. There is at least one BNF who I no longer associate with because they couldn’t handle my anti-censorship/ship-and-let-ship stance, even though we’d been friends for years. (I’d supported this person emotionally and financially when they were in trouble, and even beta read for them/helped out with fan events/written a fic for them.) When the fandom drama got intense and antis started causing shit, I got more vocal about anti rhetoric not having a place in our fandom. This BNF couldn’t handle it and ‘broke off our friendship’. We haven’t talked in probably 2 years.
4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?
Whoops yeah. It’s Yullen. XD Though, I’m not so disgusted when I see the ship anymore, and I’ll even reblog art from time to time. But I don’t go out of my way to seek out content.
5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
ROFL, you mean Yullen again? Yeah. XD I’m trying to get over my hatred, but it’s a slow process.
6, Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
YUP! Fandom actually got me into Lucky and Poker Pair. I was not a fan of Tyki’s for the longest time (mostly because of OLD fandom portrayals of his character), but a few friends wrote some amazing fics with him and converted into a Tyki lover. XD
7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?
Not really. I’ve certainly lost interest in writing certain ships, but I’ve never really grown to hate any of them.
8. Have you received anon hate? What about?
Hahaha, yeah. Mostly antis being assholes because I don’t cower before them.
I’ve also gotten trolled on my fics on ff.net (one of the various reasons I won’t post there anymore). It was nonsensical sexual harassment, but still. It was gross.
9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?
Chaoji. Need I say more?
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
Speaking strictly in terms of the manga (because the anime went off on some ridiculous tangent arcs during hiatuses that I just can’t get into), the Mater Arc. It wasn’t bad per se, just… it didn’t interest me. It’s the first real arc for the manga. When I first read/watched it, I hated Kanda a LOT. (Love him now, though.)
And Allen was… not interesting to me. In the early chapters, he felt so flat and dull. The typical nice shounen main character, y’know? OBVIOUSLY Hoshino threw a 180 on that, and now he’s interesting as hell. But yeah, Mater bored me. XD
11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
I don’t think so?? Most of the unpopular characters are ones I don’t like either.
13. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
If there is a universally unpopular arc, I’m not aware of it. XD
13. Unpopular opinion about ______ character?
I’ll just choose a character I have an unpopular opinion about:
Lenalee
Whenever I see people who yell about others hating Lenalee, I’m confused. I never see this hate, or if I do, it’s so few and far between that it’s not even worth mentioning.
I think it’s a hold over from years back (DGM is like, 15 years old now) when older fandom channeled their internalized misogyny and projected it onto female characters. I lived those days, when a female characters only ‘got in the way’ of your gay ship. (Likely a visceral response to the blatant homophobia in fandom at the time as well, but that’s another story for another time.)
People defend Lenalee without batting an eye, but really? She’s done some shitty things and she’s a rather selfish character. I love her to bits, but she’s not the perfect angel people like to make her out to be.
14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?
We’re not the perfect fandom everyone thinks we are. Sure, we’re smaller, so problematic people/things crop up less often, but we still have plenty of issues. We’ve got antis, we’ve got homophonia, we’ve got racism. We’re not perfect.
15. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
Hallow was good. You’re all just mean. XD
16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
MORE LAVI!
17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…
Hooboy… What would I change…
OKAY–After the Ark Arc, I would’ve had Allen and Lavi interact more. I wanted to see the aftermath of that! Because before they had left China, Lavi and Lenalee thought Allen was DEAD. And Lavi was Not Okay™. They thought that all the way up until the fight in Edo, when he returns. They almost immediately get sucked into the Ark, and everyone starts dropping like flies after that.
And Lavi’s the last one to ‘die’ in the Ark. Allen watched him fall into the abyss with Chaoji. And he s c r e a m e d.
Yet we have no “I thought you were dead”/ “I thought YOU were dead” conversations. There’s no “I’m so happy you’re alive” conversation and I feel CHEATED.
18. Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or bised?
I give absolutely zero fucks about what’s popular to ship.
19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?
Everyone is a little too Precious™ about Hoshino. I love the woman and all, but some people act like guard dogs if anyone criticizes her on anything whatsoever.
Also, I’m perplexed by this “Don’t share spoilers” mentality lately? What else is fandom for but to share spoilers? People act like sharing the RAWS after the magazine comes out in Japan is somehow tantamount to treason.
Like, bitch. Do you know I’d have to wait 2+ years to see any official translations for the manga? I buy the books when they come out, and since Hoshino writes slow, I depend on our fan-translators to give us something to read before I can get my hands on official merch.
Fan-translations are how small fandoms like us survive when we’re not speaking the official language of the source material. Acting like you’re on a high horse because you buy the Japanese copy, then can’t read it because you have a 3 year old’s grasp of the language, is just dumb.
20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?
Laven, IMO. Fite me on it. XD
21. What are your thoughts on crack ships?
LOVE ‘EM!!! I’m so here for crack ships. You have no idea.
22. Popular character you hate?
I don’t think I currently hate any popular characters, but I used to hate Tyki and Kanda quite a bit. I love them now, though.
23. Unpopular character you love?
I don’t really have an unpopular character I love. XD I’m just boring like that.
24. Would you recommend DGM to a friend? Why or why not?
Absolutely. I think it’s an amazing manga.
25. How would you end DGM/Would you change the ending of DGM?
LOL WHAT END???
26. Most shippable character?
ROFL, Lavi. I ship that bitch with everyone. XD
27. Least shippable character?
Tiedoll. I’m sorry, I can only see him as the anime equivalent of Bob Ross, and we all know Bob Ross doesn’t fuck.

get to know the author?
I was tagged by @yaoyoroses despite me being totally MIA from tumblr and fandom in general recently, thank you!!!
1. How did you come up with your username and what does it mean?
I’m snowdrops on ao3 - I was having a bleach phase and had an obsession with the thirteenth division of the gotei 13 when i created my ao3 account. the snowdrop is the thirteenth division’s insignia! it signifies hope.
2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (bookmarks/subscriptions/hits/kudos).
bookmarks: red strings (dgm, lavilena + yullen, reincarnation au, 9.2k words)
subscriptions: wandering spirits online (bleach x sao x log horizon, vr mmorpg au, 4k words, abandoned multichap) || the fic with the next highest number of subscriptions is red strings, which is a oneshot. in fact, i only write oneshots, with the exception of a couple of story collections, so why i have fic subscriptions at all is a true mystery.
kudos: herding cats (bnha, todobaku, neighbours au, 1.5k words)
hits: red strings (dgm, lavilena + yullen, reincarnation au, 9.2k words)
i’d like to point out here that this is probably not an accurate representation of the quality of my fics because red strings has been up on ao3 since 2014, and some of my newer fics have much higher pick-up rates relative to time elapsed
3. What is your AO3 profile icon, and why did you choose it?
yato for my main (dgm) pseud, osamu for my hq pseud, sj13 for my kpop pseud and placeholders for the rest.
4. Do you have any regular/favourite commenters?
I have regular commenters depending on the fic I’m writing - for haikyuu it’s @aritzen @ennotanafuta @chamomilea @puffandhuff @sapphyrelily; for bnha it’s the tdbk server. but favourite commenters? anyone who comments and leaves encouragement for me to keep going, especially when I’m struggling with writing and myself, is a favourite for me! I also know who my regular readers are, and I’m always grateful for them even if they don’t leave comments!
5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?
here are some of the stories that have haunted me for a long time after i first read them, sorted by fandom:
bnha:
make my body say (monoshin, E, 7.3k words)
whatever it takes (todobaku, E, fake dating au, 20k words)
dgm:
staples of vocabulary (laviyuu, T, 33.5k words)
haikyuu:
city in the rearview (kuroyaku, G, 1.2k words)
lightning, unbidden (tsukinoya, G, soulmate au, 2.3k words)
midnight railway (kuroyaku, T, 4.6k words)
young, scrappy and hungry (ennonoya, G, 466 words)
parallel circuits (miyas, G, 833 words)
but his brother, sleep (miyas, T, 2k words)
finishing line. (kuroyaku, G, manga spoilers, 1.2k words)
rain, interrupted (oifuta, T, 13.9k words)
quicksilver lullabies (noyaken, M, 8.5k words)
6. How many stories are you subscribed to? How many do you have bookmarked?
33 subscriptions (most of which are complete/from old fandoms that I no longer read) and 541 bookmarks across all pseuds
7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most?
I mostly write canon universe, but in terms of au it’s definitely college au
8. How many people are subscribed and bookmarked to you in total? (you can view this on the stats page)
33 subscribers, 393 bookmarks. i’ve been casually tracking the increase in stats here on this twitter thread.
9. Is there something you’d like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)
friends with benefits with feelings au, probably? though I don’t really care if people judge me for what I’m writing, so I guess it’s my own personal hesitance that’s stopping me from actually writing it.
10. Is there anything you would like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc.
one thing that I learnt from creative writing class is that I suck at writing visual descriptions, so I wanna work on that. I also want to be better at replying comments!!!
11. Do you write rarepairs or popular ships more often?
i’m destined for rarepair hell
12. How many stories have you posted on AO3 to this day (finished and unfinished)?
78, 39 of which were published this year....--- wait WHAT
13. How many stories do you have saved in/with your writing program?
do you mean stories i half-started, or story ideas, or stories i’ve actually completed, or
14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?
I write them down on my phone, but more often than not they remain in that state lol
15. Have you ever co-authored a story?
nope, and I’m not sure I’d be able to. I’m incredibly picky and individualistic when I’m writing.
16. How did you discover AO3?
Gunny told me that lots of writers were posting fic on ao3 too, besides ffn, so I looked it up and started hanging around
17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author in your fandom(s) on AO3?
obviously not
18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?
what, no
19. Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write?
hmm there are fic writers who made me want to write like them - themorninglark, asofthaven, carafin, among others - and also book authors - tolkien, cassandra clare, neil gaiman.
20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?
keep writing. a little every day builds up to a lot in a year.
21. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?
it... depends on the story. I’ve plotted every single one of my Timeless AU fics thus far, as well as my longer fics, but for shorter fics I tend to let the story go where it wants to
22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do?
mmm I got flamed on one of my crossover fics when I was starting out on ffn, but it was only the one time. I was rly young back then so I shall not reveal what I did lmao
23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..)
smut, and physical scenes in general. writing them makes me uncomfortable
24. What story(s) are you working on now?
kacchako zine and supposedly hqss, except i haven’t started on hqss
25. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?
,,,looks at the story ideas and plots spilling out of my pockets, you see nothing
26. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?
not now, because i’m way too busy with rl responsibilities to commit to writing
27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started?
yes yes Y E S just look here, this is how a decade of writing looks like
28. What is your favorite story that you’ve written?
as of 13 dec 2017:
molten gold (ennonoya, G, manga spoilers, 791 words)
the weight of you (laviyuu, NR, 1k words)
29. What is your least favorite story that you’ve written?
my oldest works - the ones from my ffn that should never see the light of tumbr day
30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?
better, more daring, more experimental, and with yet more to learn
31. What is the easiest thing about writing?
knowing the concept or the mood that i want to achieve (like plotting, but not really)
32. What is the hardest thing about writing?
actually achieving/coming close to achieving that concept/mood (nearly impossible) & everything else, especially not falling back into cliches of my own writing
33. Why do you write?
because who else would write these stories for these ships if not me???

I'm so glad Kirishima is getting so much spotlight, he really deserves it!!!! And it looks like hes gonna get more, since hes in the main group along with Deku, Uraraka and Tsuyu. I;m so hyped!!!
Honestly!!!!!!!!!!! That’s one interesting group tbh, Kirishima and Tsuyu’s interactions are always incredibly adorable to watch and seeing Kirishima interact for so long with pure and good people is gonna be hard on my heart (I mean, you know I’m 100% a bakusquad fan but they’re all at least in part assholes and Kiri fits with them just right, he can be just like Sero and Kaminari and I love it, but then his interactions with Amajiki have been so pure can you imagine an arc filled with that I’m already crying)
I just hope my other faves won’t completely disappear through this arc haha sigh
Anon said: So which Kacchan quote do you like best "Die your bacteria fucks, dieee!" or "BRING YOUR DAMN TRASH TO ME"?
LMAO SORRY ANON BUT MY FAVE GOTTA BE
WHAT A GODDAMN DISASTER THIS BOY IS
Anon said:there's a terushima week. thought i might tell you bc i miss you drawing him ;3; might wanna join? :3
Anon said:Terushima week is this next week! (@terushimaweek) Might we maaaybe see some cute lil bokuroterus sometime soon? ;)
As I’ve already said, sadly I’ve found out about this too late to be part of it - I’m not completely ruling out the possibility of doodling something one of the days, but I didn’t have the time to plan anything and I’m still in the middle of working things through with the bakushima week and bakugou’s birthday so I don’t know - they 19th is Teru’s birthday so maybe I’ll draw something for it, but it’s also a super busy day for me so it really depends on how soon I’ll be able to finish everything else I’m working on orz I’m sorry guys I seriously had no clue about this till, like, five days ago o
Anon said: What are your thoughts on KiriDeku b/c I'm not even that into it but as soon as I saw art I was like "OMFG I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING SO PURE CHOULD EVER EXIST!!!" My following thought was that'd you may have something interesting to say (as you always do, I luv it), so here I am 😁 Also, I love the blog, your amazing art, and you!! I truly appreciate all you do ❤️❤️
Awwww thank you!!! And I dunno, as things are now my opinion on a possible ship might change soon enough because it looks like their interactions amount is about to skyrocket, so anything I say right now is just a temporary answer? But generally I find their friendship incredibly adorable, though as of now I don’t think I can see anything romantic between the two... mostly because even though I’ve seen them being friendly and supportive of each other I don’t think I’ve ever seen them actually connect over anything that wasn’t Bakugou?? Being friendly and supportive is just how they both are with everyone, before I can say I ship them I’m gonna need something more singular to their relationship
I might be totally biased here considering where my main shipping lies, though haha
Anon said:HOSHIHINA!!!! YESSSSS!!!! PLEASE!!!!!! Anon said:Aww the kiss. I know you posted it the other day, but it wouldn't load on my tablet. They're so cute, those two. 💜✌
*lays down forever* they are aren’t they those pure idiots !!!!
Anon said:I'm laughing so hard. Literally everyone that read the new chapter was like expectation vs reality. I love my idiots. Also yas to HoshiHina
HoshiHina is an A+ ship with A+ potential and I think I’m being slowly but surely swallowed by it - then again, what Hinata ship don’t I ship even ??? the mysteries
Anon said:To answer you question on what cheese sticks are, they're this disgusting processed cheese stick, also known as string cheese, and it's p much what it is, cheese in the form of a small stick that you can pull apart into strings and eat like that! (as you may have noticed, I'm not a fan hah) ((I don't know if you know the artist mookie, but she made a comic about bokuto eating a cheesestick whole before)
Anon said: cheese sticks = string cheese? D: they are delicious i promise
I’m seeing conflicting reports here (lol) but yes this might be a problem for me only because as I said I’m Italian but what I’m failing to see here is what kind of cheese are these things supposed to be ???
Anon said:Are you into Kuroken?
Only as very good friends, I don’t ship it romantically at all
Anon said:I love your bakushimas, SO SO SO MUCH. God, and with the latest chapter, I just can't wait for more interactions with them. God, seeing as I think Kirishima was filmed by the people that were there, I want to see Bakugou's reaction to his new move.
This took me long enough to answer that we now know Baku’s reaction was total and utter envy at how popular Kiri is LMAO - but yeah I still think Baku already knew about Kiri’s new move! After all he most probably came up with it as they trained for the license exam and I can’t believe he wouldn’t test it against Bakugou to make sure he actually turns unbreakable? Also proud-of-himself Kiri yelling at the squad to check out his new move is too much of a good image I can’t let that one go hahaha
Anon said:I started following you for Haikyuu but started boku no hero academia in order to understand what your other drawings were so I thank you (and blame you) for getting me hooked on another anime and manga :)
I’m!!!!!! HAPPY you ended up liking it???!!!! *O*
Anon said:I just wanted to tell you that you're my most fave artist here in tumblr istg i go to your page everyday just to go back at the fanart you drew if you didn't have any new, but when u have, my heart just swells and i fuss over it. God bless you because you opened my eyes for bakushimanari when i was just kiribaku back then.. God i love denki sfm right now bc of you, im sad bkk week is over though ahh and laven. Jfc i love your laven pls draw them more if u can 😘 i hope you'll have a great day!!
Don’t!!!! worry anon Laven has been my #1 otp since I was sixteen at this point it’s just not gonna leave me ever, I’ll definitely draw more of it in the future! And thank you??? so much?????? Oh man!!!!!
Anon said:Everyone in class 1-A: *trains as if they're gonna be in a battle royal and need to (literally) slaughter the competition* Competition: OBSTACLE RACE YAY
Well, the anime did change the training scenes a lot lol but LMAO anon they’re highschoolers what were you expecting hahahahaha it’s already savage enough as it is, I assure you lol
Anon said:Hi hello yes are you up for some angsty stuff because my brain turns even the sweetest moment to that, like what if kaminari saw bakushima's first kiss and he becomes so sad b/c he crushes on them both but he pretends not to and starts teasing 'em like a true bro while hiding his feelings and idk it's only if you want but yeah, how's your day been?
..........I would lie if I said I didn’t think about this while drawing that kiss R I P my multishipper heart is gonna kill me BUT IT’S OKAY I’m not one for unhappy endings so consider this - Denki sees them kiss, since he’s best bro and both Kirishima and Bakugou tend to wear their hearts on their sleeves he already knew this was gonna happen so he’s like, sad but resigned it hurts and he wishes he didn’t have to see it but he loves them both so much that he can’t help but being happy for how happy they are at the same time too (sure, being part of that happiness would be a dream coming true, but he’s used to never coming first he can deal with this hahahahaha r i p)
Meanwhile a bit after the kiss once Kiri is a hundred per cent sure Bakugou isn’t going to explode his head off if he mentions his very huge crush on Kaminari he does and Bakugou’s like, shit, it’s not like he’d mind it because Kaminari is, well, he’s Kaminari and Bakugou isn’t sure why but he’s comfortable to be around and easy to talk to and he’s stupidly pretty and like, yeah, okay, he might be into him too, maybe, he isn’t admitting anything here (not like he needs to, as stated already he’s pretty easy to read), but Kaminari’s also the no homo type of het so it’s not like they can do much about this threeway crush or whatever, and Kirishima’s like sure, I know, I just wanted to be open about this to avoid trouble, which is very sensible and will cut us on a lot of miscommunication angst this is getting out of hand let’s skip ahead I always forget how much fun I have writing this kind of bullshit
For however much Kaminari swore he could deal with it and how much he’s actually managing to deal with it he’s also the same brand of open book Baku and Kiri are and while it was easy to act like friends with no romantic feelings when everyone was doing the same, trying to hide from Bakugou and Kirishima while they’re openly in a relationship turns out to be more or less impossible, mostly because he can’t seem to avoid the longing stares and sad smiles and the I have to go I just remembered I have a thing to do bye’s when it becomes too much, and Kirishima might not be the brightest but he’s perfectly in tune with everyone’s feelings and Bakugou might stomp on people’s feelings more often than not but he is the brightest which means they notice and they’re like god fucking damn it - Bakugou in nature isn’t one to talk about problems until they burst out in fits of anger, but thank god he’s got Kirishima right there and they might not be 100% sure they got the reason for Kaminari’s weirdness right but they’re exasperated and they at least want their friend to stop being weird and avoiding them, they miss him (and Kaminari seriously misses them too he feels so stupid for how big of a deal he’s turning this into) SO they corner him and talk it out cause I’m a slut for open and honest communication and Kaminari straight out starts crying from happiness and relief before they’re even done talking and Kirishima starts crying right after him because sympathetic crier supreme and Bakugou’s like you know what I changed my mind fuck both of you emotional disasters I’m out
(spoiler he isn’t really)

What is fma?
FMA refers to FullMetal Alchemist, which i would say is one of my favorite manga in existence ahah
Written by Hiromu Arakawa between 2001 and 2010 and receiving two different anime adaptation, FMA follows the story of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, two alchemists on their journey to find the Philosophal Stone in order to recover.... something that was lost. I'm leaving it vague for you to see if you decide to check it out. In order to do so, the older brother joins the army and the two gets involved in a complex conspiracy linked to the history of their country. It is set in a fictional alternative world btw. I don't know how else to mention it.
The first anime adaptation, called simply "Fullmetal Alchemist" came out in 2003 before the manga was over, and therefore, quickly branches out into an original story that has very little to do with the manga. It remains a really interesting watch, though i would say it's my least favorite of the FMA stories.
The second anime adaptation, called "Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood" came out in 2009 and follows the manga pretty closely (like 98% close and it's just because i'm a manga purist and nippicker lol). It has been acclaimed as one of the best anime for a long time and with cause.
Though personally i'm someone who only swears by the Manga which is just a blast. The writing is seriously great. No element, no detail goes to waste, everything builds up to a satisfying conclusion and thrilling adventure with heavy themes and incredible characters, all while having a wonderful work with tones, blending humor, action and drama seamlessly in one lasting experience.
honestly it's a HUGE recommandation from me nonny if you ever want to try it out. I prefer the manga, but if you prefer anime i definitely recommend the Brotherhood adaptation for the full story, and the 03 version if you want to see what the alternative story ended up being.
hope it answers the question and i can enter into details if you want, but i truly recommend going into it as blind as possible (i'm already impressed you've never heard of it, better treasure this lack of knowledge for appreciating the story just as new). And I really, really recommend it, if my opinion on anything has any weights.
Leaving you on the first opening of Brotherhood, if it ever ends up making you curious:

#if it's because i complain about the posts i complain at the fact i got 170 notifications in less than an hour#and the fact i wrote this post 6 years ago and i cringe everytime because of the way i wrote it#i'm a different person than i was last year and DEFINITELY different than i was 6 years ago ahah#the content of the post are cool but i could have worded it better i didnt expect it'd GO VIRAL#crying#but yeah i cannot stress enough this is one of my favorite manga#and when i say 'one of' i mean 'my second favorite manga only because dgm has my heart on top'#that said i think that fma has more writing strengths and satisfaction in general#it really is just a gem imo#also this is. funny to me to hear that as someone who used to read the manga before BH came out#way back it was One Of The Most Popular Manga ever and everyone had heard of it#~~hell the problem was discussing how the anime differed from the manga before BH came out~~#since it ended it still has a very steady popularity from old fans and newcomers alike because it's really good#like it's not one of those manga that got ruined by its ending like so many of the popular manga of that period#it has kept a steady popularity online since then....#but it did make me feel old suddenly DLKJFDFL#the manga i was reading when i was 12 sitting in the best seller aisle of my library.....#ichareply#ichafantalks fma#anonymous

@norowarerumono replied to your post “@norowarerumono replied to your post “I was missing Lavi so much I...”
France has a pretty large fanbase for manga too, from what I gathred (probably better translations too given that). But that's impressive wow! It's really a shame what happened... It would be nice if they got translated :C But oh well, it's still clearly popular enough to be given special treatment at SQ Crown with all those color pages..
aaah yes indeed! So I don't know how true it is, but apparently France had been one of the first country to really export Japanese products like Manga. In the 80s, I know there was a woman called Dorothée who loved Manga and had a tons of them being exported, and she had to fight against some politicians who considered it "too adult for kids", but she prepared shows and all to get people to watch anime somehow. and I know the president we had in the 90s, who was also an important Minister in the 80s, actually Loved Japan (for good or for bad) so he actually really encouraged France/Japan inter exchange during this period among others.
It's not like, that much into the culture, but it had been encouraged for soo long, and in the last 15 years, it started to really bloom with stuff like conventions, and also shops starting to opening big Manga part in their shops. But from what I remember, at least in my city, it's been about 8 years that it takes a larger part into shops too. I worked for two weeks in a Comicshop when I was 15 and I was managing all the manga places ahah. Also when I was 15, a Manga Coffee opened up in the city, which is p dope.
But ye, therefore now i'm pretty sad because I know dgm was removed from most big stores (those who have limited Manga selections) and can still be found in Manga Coffees or shops with a huge varietee of Manga. But still though, I think the translations of the new volumes still get attention at least. It just faded a little away (I think also they started translating the 06 anime but stopped around episode 50 or 60 because it was less popular than the manga version somehow...)
But ye, all to say, about 8 years ago it was so popular it got a Guidebook translated, things that rarely happened back then, but now it faded a bit away :/, at least in France.
But i'm so, so glad that despite that, dgm still has this special treatment in the SQ Crown. Like, between the color pages and the bookmarks last issues, it really feels like dgm is still having a big enough fanbase in Japan (and with people buying the magazine) so that it keeps being well considered. I'll be forever grateful of that ;;-;;
