Art for the fic “Of Sinners and Sons” by @altocat, which is a beautiful long-winded character study surrounding Hojo and Sephiroth’s relationship as father and son across their canon-aligned journeys. Hojo, and his disturbed, twisted love for his greatest creation, is written with refreshing and unique nuance that can be rare to find in the FF7 fandom, but that still feels believable and in-character, while Sephiroth is written with the usual depth and complexity that Alto is always careful to base off of his canonical traits.

Just got caught up on TFS and YAAAAY baby Angeal!! Maybe baby Genesis in the future?? Also oh no Hojo…

I’m just kinda in shock and awe of how things have unfolded. I didn’t expect (i mean i kinda did cause its sephiroth) for the gatcha hell mobile chibi game to have me on the verge of tears. My sweet baby boy ;-; I don’t know if i can coherently say what i am thinking about chapters 7 and 8. I absolutely love how squenix is showing how much empathy Sephiroth feels but has a hard time expressing. We can really see his is truly trying his best to be the hero he never truly wanted to be after what happened in Rhadore. Or thats the vibe i got from his dialogue in chapter 8 and I think we will see more of that in episode 2 of TFS with Angeal now becoming his friend. Also Jenova having been influencing him since at least the Wutai War from what we have seen now and probably earlier with that new detail opens up a whole new part of the can of worms that is Sephiroth. Very excited to see what’s next and hopefully square keeps not fucking it up

Most children figure out the "ma" sound first, which is why we have "mama"/"mom"/etc. Babyroth's first sound he figured out was probably silence to avoid drawing attention. Maybe that's why Jenova clicks so well with him--she doesn't speak out loud, just like he learned not to.

Hojo definitely did some wire-mother/soft-mother shit with him and he cuddled with the soft mother until it was taken away. With all pleasant touch removed, he searches for other pleasantness. Imagine Babyroth with his heightened senses, turning towards sources of milk and happy, protective scents...but being blocked by Hojo.

Nobody plays peekaboo with him, but they do disappear when Hojo's displeased with them.

"Where Dr. Anna?"

"It doesn't matter. Perform the task.”

Toddler babyroth wants to show off his finds or skills to someone, but no one coos at him and it feels wrong, deep in his tiny, soft bones, but he has no idea how to not feel the wrongness, it’s been a stifling blanket over his whole life.

Jenova's a shapeshifter who eats planets, she can become big enough to hold him like a little baby like no one has before. Even if he knew about Lucrecia, she can't do that for him, the opportunity is gone. Hojo would support his head, but he wouldn't hold the baby in the crook of his arm nestled up to his breast, looking down at him lovingly. (Jenova has another bonus there, because of her booby-eye.)

Really, it’s no wonder he turns to her in the end.

Ah yes downloaded ffvii ever crisis gacha for the baby sephy so smol so dangerous must protecc, id adopt him for sure... Why is his story after the 3 new characters, can't even blaze through cuz they are kinda weak even with upgraded weapons grr so gotta grind for 5 yrs... And idk I wanna care about them, but it's kinda hard when that is not what I came for, but to be fair sephiroth's chapter just came out I think... Ah least I can lvl the baby out of story, could be biased, but he seems pretty strong already clearing to be the expected as the future hero of the Wu Tang war

I think it's safe to say that if we're getting all this content about Baby Sephiroth along with descriptions of him that include the adjectives "beautiful" and "pure," it's safe to assume that the Sephiroth we'll see in the next two Remake installments could be pretty complex with shades of gray. It's not common for a bog-standard villain to be built up like this, and I hope it's not because they want his fall to hurt that much more because I'm not a masochist. Sure, the fans who demand a two-dimensional, moustache-twirlingly evil Snidely Whiplash type will complain, but when do they ever not? They can simp for Hojo if they want a monster so badly.
