Important PSA/Caution for new Hellenists
(Before you read: This isn't slander to the people who made the statues I'm talking about, I'm just posting this cuz I see SO MANY posts of people being surprised by their size. And I nearly bought them myself, until I double-checked the reviews.)
Anyways!
I know a lot of us are hard at work trying to make pretty altars for our deities and so naturally a lot of us are going to amazon to find *those* statuettes to put on shrines and what not.
You might have searched for them before:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THESE guys. They're super cute but what they don't advertise too well is that they are 9cm (3.5 inches) tall. Like...smaller than a chess piece. If you check the reviews, a LOT of people are pissed lol
They're as much as $35 CAD (~$25 USD) for some of the gods too. So... Before you drop $60-70 on two little board game pieces. Please be warned that they are quite small!
If you're looking for pieces more suitable for an altar or shrine, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND finding a local antique/thrift store or checking Etsy for high-quality sculptures! That's where I've gotten most of mine and they are so lovely- and also cheaper (I have a vintage Aphrodite statue which I got for $20 USD just from a local business!)
Always read reviews folks!! And don't burn all your money for the sake of the gods- they'll understand! (Especially Hermes!)

Friendly reminder that you don’t need to be Greek or Mediterranean in your ethnicity or heritage to practice Hellenism! Religion and spirituality transcends anthropology and genetics, the gods will love anybody of any heritage, race, sexuality, or gender who wishes to revere them and learn about or partake in the practice of hellenism!

update; I have now officially dedicated my little after-shower ritual to Lady Aphrodite. I prayed, then simply talked with her, and I'm left feeling wonderful. I could really feel Her this time 🩷

intro
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hello tumblr! my name is salem and this is my digital grimoire sideblog ᡣ𐭩 see my list of tags here
i post anything related to my personal journey with spirituality and paganism / hellenistic polytheism!
i am a complete beginner, so my askbox is open for advice and tips rather than only questions.
Tumblr media
personally, i am interested in witchcraft, but i'm saving starting that for after i build connection with the deities i desire to work with.
i am starting with aphrodite and plan to work with tyche and nyx in the near future!
other than working with deities, my strongest interests are spell jars, crystals, and possibly tarot
Tumblr media
generally, i will block freely, but i want to make it clear that i do not want to interact with proshippers, radinclus, endogenic/tulpagenic systems & supporters, and anti-spiritualists.
and lastly, while im at it; a digital offering to the one and only goddess of love & beauty 🎀

Aphrodite Devotees y'all are NEVER gonna believe this
If you saw my previous post you'd know I went to an antique store where I found an Aphrodite sculpture as well as a little brass bowl with a dove and lamb engraved onto it. So that was kind of my first sign that I was being called to by Lady Aphrodite, so I went and bought those to keep on my altar.
Anyways, today shit got even weirder.
I was driving home when this bright white dove (!!!) flew RIGHT next to my car window on my side. I didn't get a pic cuz I was driving and in such disbelief (I don't think I had ever seen one irl before), then I watched it fly away. It was most definitely a dove, brightest white I've ever seen on a bird.
Fast forward, I've been home for a few hours when I remembered I put out a jar of water with a few rose quartzes in my backyard to charge in last night's full moon. So I went to go pick it up- except I stopped because this HARE was sleeping right next to it.
Tumblr media
So I was like 'wait...are hares sacred to a certain deity?' Checked Google and Theoi.com and yup! Sacred to Aphrodite just like the dove! Thank GOD I got a pic this time. I haven't gotten the jar back yet cuz he's still out there sleeping next to it, but I'll pick it up later when he leaves :) I guess I gotta go pick up something to make as an offering to Aphrodite cuz WOW.
If anyone has advice on what to offer/how to talk to her I'd really REALLY appreciate it! I'm a Dionysus and Hermes devotee so I really don't know what to expect lmao

For Hermes
(All these photos are mine)
I’ve not done one of these digital offerings yet, this one is my first! I know some people write poems or devotional messages to go along with these, but I feel like the biggest part of the offering was going out and having these experiences and taking these photos, so that’ll be all from me!
Unsure if I’ll post a bunch more of these, but hopefully it feels inspirational for someone \_(^^)_/

I’m a baby Hellenistic pagan and I need some help.
I am trying to form a relationship w Artemis and I think it’s going well? When I talk to her through my cards, she always seems much more confident about this than I am lol But that’s not of what I need help w rn
I was raised Christian and I’m struggling with the whole “thou shalt put no other gods before me” and “I am a jealous god” thing and all that. I’ve always believed in nymphs, dryads, river spirits, etc with no problem but now that I’m focusing more on Artemis, I’ve found myself attributing their beauty and power and even other Olympians’ domains (ex: rainstorm, sunset) to her even tho I know it’s wrong.
I know that’s not how Hellenism works and I would actually get in trouble if I didn’t acknowledge other gods but I can’t get out of the mindset that I can only acknowledge one god. Any advice?
