A Recommendation

My first shopping preference is a small, family owned store.

Unfortunately, in my neighborhood the small, local photo retailer chain seems to have hired former PC network help desk employees to staff their ‘customer facing’ retail positions.

You remember, that condescending/smug combo platter schmuck, the type whose life I inevitability ended up threatening, leading to “unpleasantness” in the workplace.

Ahem. Moving on.

So bidding this latest crop of douchey-douchermen a not so fond farewell, I searched for an online alternative to Amazon, because fuck those people, too.

And, I found B&H. B&H Photo has an online store as well as a physical location in New York. They have friendly experts on staff. Quel concept as we say in France. They are untroubled by inquiries from photography novices like me, and they reply quickly to emails.

Their prices are good. Now, their shipping isn't free, but if you've dropping coin on a decent camera, is a few bucks for UPS gonna killya? Unlikely, and as I mentioned earlier, fuck Amazon Prime, because fuck ‘em.

These B&H folks are the real deal and I am a loyal customer. They are open for business every day except Saturday, in honor of their sabbath, which only makes me dig them even more.

'MAKE ART' -- Such a beautiful message. One that I try to live by! I recently started a new job right around the corner from B&H, which should help to explain all the street photography on 34th. It's a gift and a curse. Lol I have very little issues with practicing restraint, but I'm only human. Putting a photographer to work around the corner from B&H is like putting an addict to work in a hospital pharmacy! Lmao.

Aside from a handful of my recent rolls being developed and printed by 'New York Camera & Video' in PA (love you guys), B&H has been my go to for developing the prints I share with you on this blog! And I can't drop off my rolls without picking up some new ones, right? I mean, that wouldn't make any sense. And although this logic is burning a hole in my pocket, I absolutely Love it!! Lolol.

That was surely the case when I dropped off my last couple of rolls, I refused to walk away with an empty camera and so I opted for a roll of Fuji 400. [Confession: the camera wasn't empty, I was just making an excuse for buying more film!] Lmao New roll of film, but same ol program! I shot some of my favorite shots of the past month on this roll. Growing up I was a HUGE fan of 'Home Alone' so when I was leaving my house for work and came across the baby blue Ford Econoline Van, I instantly thought of Marv and Harry, the Wet Bandits! 🤣 Then there was the totaled BMW with the pristine Matte Black Benz behind it. You never know what you'll get with street photography, and that's what I love!

I also have an affinity for shooting addicts, as I feel I’ve mentioned before. I also got a handful of shots that I plan to put together for a particular project. Something that showcases old New York vs new New York. But more on that at a later date. Lol

All in all I had fun shooting this roll! Later on today I will be dropping off another roll to B&H to develop and print, and (looks around to see if anyone is listening) I just might buy another roll or two, who knows!? Lmao.

I already forgot all but one of what I shot on my latest roll but I’m sure you’re as excited as I am to see what I got! Lol
