It’s their first Valentine's Day as that sort of couple, and Aziraphale and Crowley are determined to do as humans do. Five times London finds a way to ruin their perfect night, and the one time a perfect night finds them.

When Crowley had snaked himself across the bar top, half purring, half snarling for Aziraphale to live a little, this wasn’t exactly what he meant by it. Not exclusively, anyway. If there was a list of possibilities, it may have been on there somewhere; scrawled as a hasty afterthought, perhaps under a subheading of Things That Would Surely Never Actually Happen. But the sight of Aziraphale lying naked and debauched in the middle of his black satin sheets was not something he was about to hesitate over. (If there was a second list, one surreptitiously scribbled on a napkin in the dark corner of a crowded bar, it would be titled Things Crowley Had No Right To Crave As Much As He Did, and it would start and end with this single bullet point)

It does make me laugh how Crowley, intending to tempt an Angel, persuaded Aziraphale to eat, watched him, realised suddenly that watching Aziraphale eat was absolutely ‘his thing’ and decided to spend the rest of his time on Earth watching Aziraphale eat.

Update, y'all. I didn't think there was a way to further refine this trope, but my eyes have been opened. Crowley is to be the bodyguard of known author Alistair (i.e. Aziraphale), and on his first day he happens to sit down to eat just outside the dining room window... :

"He nearly spat his food out when he heard the first moan coming from inside the house. As it was, he froze, his eyes wide, as the blush started to creep up his neck. He didn’t want to get up and leave, as then whoever was in what he had assumed was the dining room would be made aware of his presence, and that would get even more awkward."

The misunderstandings and Crowley's distress just spiral from there, and I swear I have been cackling about this scene for several minutes.

Do yourselves a favor and go read it! Here's the fic, and the scene is towards the end of chapter 3:

I live for the fanfic trope of Crowley basically fighting for his life while hearing Aziraphale making "almost pornografic" noises while eating. I have read fics where they eat and Aziraphale just enjoys it and it's not a Thing and Crowley is normal about it, and I'm always disappointed.

Sometimes i forget that Aziraphale literally said 'we can be together' and 'I need you' like holy shit we're talking about the same Aziraphale who constantly denied having 'their own side', who said he didn't need Crowley in s1. yes, Crowley was the one doing the confessing but so was Aziraphale. they both confessed that they want to be together, that they need each other, but the whole universe is conspiring against them. they both said 'i want to be with you' and yet...

I keep thinking about why Crowley was living in his car and why Aziraphale didn't invite him to move into the bookshop with him.

And it's the same problem as always with them:

They. Don't. Talk.

They just assume the other is thinking this and that way, and never ask real questions or give real answers huh?! After all, they've known each other for millennia, there's no need for all that communication nonsense!

Aziraphale didn't ask Crowley about moving in, because he assumed Crowley knew the doors were always open to him and if he wanted to move in he just Would. And of course Crowley didn't, because he would hate the bookshop and the life that came with it anyway, right?!

And Crowley didn't ask if he could move in, because he assumed that if Aziraphale wanted him to he would just invite him himself, right?! And of course Aziraphale didn't ask, he wouldn't want Crowley so close, aways around, for an indeterminate period of time.

And now everything is gone for Crowley. He doesn't have Aziraphale, he doesn't have the bookshop, he doesn't have his flat. All he has is his car and his plants, which is all he really always had anyway, right? Right.
