I flat out don't like the recent retcon concerning Nightcrawler's parentage, because it makes the details of his conception unnecessarily contrived, and it also throws Professor X under the bus, because the woman who threw her infant son off a cliff can't be the bad guy in this scenario, it has to be the guy in the wheelchair. Besides that however, the most annoying thing is all the arguments made by people defending the retcon while also making it clear they only have an entry level understanding of X-Men mythos:

"At least his father isn't a demon anymore" News Flash: Azazel is still his biological father, the only thing that changed was whose womb Kurt gestated in. Also Azazel isn't a demon, he's a mutant whose mutation makes him look like a demon, bet you think that Warren Worthington III is an actual angel too.

"Being the child of a lesbian couple forces Kurt to confront his prejudices as a catholic" Nightcrawler has never been depicted as homophobic, and if you think that him being catholic automatically means his is then your the one who needs to confront their prejudices.

"It was Chris Claremont's original plan for the comic that Mystique and Destiny were Nightcrawler's parents" and Nightcrawler's original creator, Dave Cockrum, wanted his father to be Nightmare; so if we're going to be honoring the creator's original intent, I think you should be prepared for that. Besides, Chris Claremont also wanted to have Shadowcat bombarded with cosmic rays, which would rewrite her DNA, turning her into the biological daughter of Storm and Black Panther, after which she'd change her name to "Shadow Panther", not everything he comes up with needs to go to print.

Today I will share with you my Supernatural Conspiracy Theory TM, which is John was possesed by the YED since the fire, brought to you by my lack of sleep

Proof? None

Doubts? Zero

So lets begin with how this started...

When the prequel was announced I made a post about how the story would only made sense if it went full circle with the ending being the fire and John looking up with yellow eyes. (I mean alternate universe also made sense, but I mantain my posture)

So anyways, afterwards I started to think about my theory and to me it kind of made sense so here is the "evidence" I gather

Evidence #1 Young John Winchester

So first we have the young version of John Winchester in the show (we are ignoring the prequel as a tecnichallity of them not being in the same universe) Here is the thing, Matt Cohen´s version of John and Jeffrey Dean Morgan´s are totally two different people. Hell, Cohen´s version would be the first to murder older John. And it could be pointed out that grief can change a person but to that degree, I dont think so. So something must have made him change to that degree, so my answer the Yellow Eye Demon

Evidence #2 Azazel

Alright, say the first evidence can be debunked quickly, and the grief changed John into a different person. Here is where I ask my question if you were a millenias-old-demon would you truly leave things occur by chance? Because lets be honest Sam could have died when he was younger due to John´s neglect and we know by the whole show that Sam was the favorite because he was Lucifer´s meat suit. So the demon´s best bet would have been to be close to the boys and who was closest than their dad.

And you might say but the others hunters could have notice. But how would they? Holy water was proven not to work with the YED nor any of the other tests (Also there is the fact that John was never close to catching the yellow eyed demon until it upped his game so )

Evidence #3 Favoritism towards Sam

Thinking that YED raised the boys it is any wonder that Sam was the golden boy. Because Jonh would have never accepted half the shit Sam pulled if it had been Dean doing it

Conclusion

I think John was possesed at least half the time and that is why he changed so much from his young version

During Winter 2023 the final seasonal lineup, I check out first season of Mairimashita! Iruma-kun anime adaptation based on its "shounen" manga and while animation itself isn't the best and cheapens the quality, it was rather engaging overall.

Immersive world building of Netherworld, intriuging lore involving secrets of all inhabitants, likable protagonist and cast of characters. They have everything in a great show...even some bad cons.

Obviously there is one complaint considered as a disgraceful omen in my eyes: Ｆ***ＫＩＮＧ ＡＭＥＲＩ ＡＺＡＺＥＬ.

Introduced as the student council president of Babyls Demon School. Strong-willed, ambitious, domineering, and beautiful. (Though not as elegantly beautiful as Asmodeus. Sorry not sorry) She is based of an exiled angel from showering humanity the forbidden knowledge during Hellenization. It made sense to the Azazels discovering our blue colored paper is human but what bothers me is how the series entitles itself on shoehorning Ameri in EVERY EPISODE OF HER hopelessly falling in an one-sided love with Iruma. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝗺, 𝗍𝗈 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝗉𝗈𝗂𝗇𝗍 𝗌𝗁𝖾 𝖻𝖾𝖼𝗈𝗆𝖾𝗌 𝗋𝖺𝗍𝗁𝖾𝗋 𝖼𝗈𝗇𝖼𝖾𝗋𝗇𝗂𝗇𝗀 𝖻𝗎𝗍 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Like the poor kid just wants friends and enjoy his highschool life without getting forced into romance and out of all the demons in Babyls, Asmodeus means it well as he was sensible enough to sacrifice his feelings for friendship. (I'm deducing that homophobic shounen editors are guilty here and not Nishi. If only this was given a treatment similar to Owl House or Steven Universe)

Kind of gives me feeling of what I called "Marie canon love interest syndrome" *shudders* They downgraded her as one of female love interests makes it kind of insulting.

From season 1, Ameri has really good moments without Iruma and she is awesome out there. However once I begin to watch season 2 in the future, they assassinated her strong personality. GOOD HEAVENS, WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO HER!? EDITORS EXPLAIN YOURSELVES.（╯‵□′）╯︵┴─┴

I mostly skip Ameri-centric episodes, because I never care much of girlboss queen being awfully weak for our good-hearted demon king. Strong girls downplayed into love interests is a pet peeve of mine. Butch Lesbians exists, alright!?

I never want to hate Ameri but character-wise, she is never a great female character.

Hello, I would like an order for Ror Yandere Hades, Poseidon, Loki and Apollo with Anubis female version with the personality of Helaena Targaryen and being super overprotected because she gets lost and is autistic with ADHD, please.

Yes, this request is interesting since Halaena Targargyn’s is one of my favs from HoTD, so I’ll try to make a good interpretation on these characters. I prob fucked up Poseidon… sorry. :(

Loki

This man would not let you out of his sight, he knows how naive you are.

When you do accidentally find his secret room and a doll that looks like you. Your mind couldn’t handle the thought of why he had that and as you tried to panic and leave, he even stopped you and refused you from leaving his palace.

He normally would shape shift into cats or other animals to stalk you whenever you’re reading or wandering around.

If someone tried to take your attention from him, even to ask you for your assistance in something, he would rudely dismiss them while you stand there puzzled and confused.

As you struggle with social interactions and being near others, Loki would always be the one to speak for you even if he says out of line phrases that you would never say.

You also have a huge habit of watching bugs in the garden and sometimes would accidentally wander too far in Odin’s garden before Loki could find you and bring you back. You had always wondered how he always finds you. Maybe he was nearby?

Apollo

Apollo normally appears as an extremely narcissistic individual who never was loyal to any of his lovers, until he first laid his eyes upon you as the goddess of funerals and burials. He had to nearly beg you to get to know him, even if you preferred to be alone and to be withdrawn from everyone.

Whenever others don’t fit his standards of beauty, he looks down on them even if you’re standing beside him as he berates some of the maids and or servants in the Olympus palace.

He would always act dramatic and rant to you about his long day arguing with his servants if they don’t do things his way, Apollo gets agitated. You tend to always listen and speak if you’re asked to.

Whenever he goes to have his baths, he always puts pressure on you to join him. You felt like you had no say in the matter and agreed to these occasional baths with him.

Whenever you tried to wander the palace alone, Apollo would scold you about leaving without telling him because of how easy it was to get lost in the palace. You could go days without seeing a single person sometimes. Apollo always told you to tell him if you were going somewhere so he would be the one to accompany you. This was something that made you weirded out at first but you never questioned him.

You preferred being in solitude without Apollo rambling nonsense about his day. He was too attached to your company to let you out of his sight. If he wants a bath, you’d have to join him. It was nearly impossible to get away from him at times. He even dropped the harem of girls because he was obsessed with you.

When Adamas tried to hurt you one evening while you got lost in the wrong wing of the palace, you had thought you were alone since you left Apollo’s room without telling him. However, Apollo was already quick to tell Adamas to leave and that he was sorry for disturbing him. Apollo wasn’t mad, but he doesn’t like the thought of someone trying to hurt you and he’s not there to protect you.

Hades

The King of the Netherworld wasn’t one to find a soulmate considering he was too busy ruling Helheim, until he saw you one day in the garden of Eve with Lucifer, Azazel and Samuel stealing apples which was forbidden, however, he didn’t care about that. He rarely goes to that place but something about you intrigued him and lured him. You? An Egyptian goddess of funerals hanging out with them? He wanted to scoff knowing you could do better, with someone like him.

He knew of you, but you rarely appeared during council meetings because of how sensitive the topics were. You didn’t like the thought of destroying entire species. You took care of the dead your own way.

You mostly kept to yourself and found the littlest things more amusing to you like ants on the ground. Hades had wondered why he watched you for so long.

The moment he finally caught your attention, you looked dumbfounded at his presence while the three angles were kneeling. You were socially distant from your interaction with the Netherworld king many times before. However, he quickly declared that you walk with him in Helheim.

As reluctant as you were, Hades saw how nervous and fidgety you were around him due to his status as a chief god. He quickly asked if you’d stay with him in his empty palace and promised you his protection. You quickly thought of saying no to that suggestion, however, how could you decline that? You had your own routine and duties as the goddess of funerals. Hades promised you’d continue your usual activities only if you’d accompany him whenever he wanted. Helheim was a dangerous place where demons dwell and he would kill any demon that tries to harm you.

Whenever, you tried to travel around his castle alone or the number of times you got lost finding your away around, Hades would quickly find you and tell you to stay with him in his room instead. He even offered his entire library to you if you wanted to read. Even if you’d rather be alone, his presence was enough to make you obey him.

Poseidon

This man rarely talks, and mostly glares at others. His cold exterior told you otherwise to just avoid him and to never interact with him. However, as you thought he had no emotions, you were completely wrong by this. He loves his brothers and even shows you respect by not calling you a bottom feeder like he does with other gods.

He saw how Zeus was being a pervert and was spying on you in the baths and scolded him which nearly pissed off the ocean tyrant because of his younger brother’s unpleasant nature of being a pervert.

You were just an outside guest of the Egyptian pantheon and were asked personally by Poseidon to accompany him in his hall. Which was a long table and he sat at one end. He questioned you, your intentions, why you were even at the Olympus palace and other things. You were incredibly nervous and thought you were going to die. He tried walking towards you as you were squeezing your eyes shut while fidgeting with your fingers.

You were something that interested you but he couldn’t put forth as to why. Was it your personality? Or how much you prefer to be alone like him? When Adamas tried to harm you, things didn’t end well for him. Let’s say he tried to attack Poseidon the same day as well nearly killing him.

He didn’t like how much you’d rather leave when you tried to dismiss yourself. He refused to let you leave and told you to stay with him for just a bit longer. This was the longest you ever heard him speak. He was definitely more quiet when he’s with his brothers.

Even as nervous as you seem to be, you were easy to obey him.

I love reading literally any text which dicusses Azazel so imma rant here a little.

Like Azazel has often been associated with Lucifer/Satan so theres a debate on if they’re the same being, such as the implication in the Apocalypse of Abraham where Azazel was the dragon/serpent who convinced adam and eve to eat the forbidden fruit (which was also a grape which i find funny). Theres also a debate on if it may have been implied they had a threesome as well lmao.

Also just generally the Apocalypse of Abraham is super interesting. It gives several different descriptions of Azazel with implications of them being essentially the fire of hell itself, a many headed serpent/dragon with 12 wings, an unclean bird (though its pretty explicit that this form is not their ‘true’ form).

There is the debate with Enoch if they were the leader of the watchers on par with Samyaza before or after their pact, as its possible they either fought for power and/or Azazel may have become the leader after their infamous acts. Some wonder if they were a Nephilim. Idk its just very interesting.

Like Azazil is also the previous name of Satan in Islam also.

One version of the Ars Goetia lists them as King of the East, though there's not much info overall on that.

Anyways back to the point since this all gives me some inspo for making their ‘true’ form. I need to make their satyr form but also their real angelic\demonic form. I needa find a way to combine a lot of these descriptions bc I have ideas for their lore. I have been reading sooo many theological essays.

Sam Winchester rant because he is my bbg

Sam probably didn't think he was deserving of Jessica because he never felt worthy of anything, so to have the beautiful, kind, and caring women care about HIM, the boy tainted with demon blood, he was probably pinching himself everyday to make sure it was real. Then she was killed by Azazel. She was killed because she was making Sam too "soft," she was killed because Sam had demon blood because he was tainted. He most definitely blamed himself for Jessica's death (even more than he already did). Not only that, but every good thing he ever had was ripped out of his hands. Any girl that he cared about was killed. He had to watch Dean die over and over again. His entire family was killed. His mom left him for the people who tortured him, and why wouldn't she? He was the boy with demon blood. He was tainted and hurt everything around him. Being in hell might have been one of the best points in his life because he was making amends with everyone he has ever hurt. He would finally never hurt anyone again, and he would spend the rest of his life making it up to them, using his pain to pay them back, and not a day went by where their faces didn't flash in his mind. Mom, dad, Dean, Jessica. Every single one. It was only when he finally made it to heaven that he realized that he was worthy of love. He was worthy of happiness, and none of the pain they endured was his fault.

Anyway, to sum up this whole rant, Sam blames himself for everything because he has demon blood, so obviously, he must be the cause of all this pain.

What was ur thought process into making or developing Samyaza?? Or all of the watchers..I’m like 50% into the book and he’s hypocritical to me like he makes these back handed remarks abt azazel having a man but like does it matter cause you all are sinners in the eyes of god and it seems he wants to get rid of everybody on earth so far

It seems like most of the watchers still hold some type of bias towards the “sinners” of Heaven for being a “whore” but you guys aren’t even in heaven (and won’t be treated the same when u return) and you guys are doing the same thing :/ even having tons of babies like did you guys even think abt this being a possibility???

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion but I kinda dislike Samyaza it seem like after everything that’s happened he still doesn’t try to see different view points on life on earth apart from his. He chalks up Armoni not particularly liking his wife (that he was practically forced to marry) as just Armoni being his usual distasteful self. :(

I may just have to reread a couple of pages to try and understand Samyaza or any of the the watchers. But I LOVE your works and I think they’re amazing and I didn’t want this to come off as passive aggressive I guess I’m just confused abt some of these characters since I don’t think like they do

Hello! I'm curious if your thoughts have changed since you sent this ask, but disliking Samyaza definitely isn't a minority opinion!

I think almost all my betas disliked Samyaza at the start, but they all liked him by the end. I think, for most readers, Samyaza is hypocritical, selfish, and etc., but the amount he suffers by end makes it so that.... well, yes, Samyaza might be a bit aggravating at times, he definitely didn't deserve any of what happens. And he does change as a person, at least I think so.

The story of Enoch sort of lends itself to the interpretation of a husky, tortured fallen angel who sweeps a beautiful woman off her feet and has to choose between her or God, his Father. I like to say this is the version of Samyaza that I would have been able to write if I wasn't as gay as I am, but my reasoning for not making him that is a little more complicated.

I like writing hypocrites, and I liked the idea of an angel that saw his struggle similar to a woman's, feeling a solidarity with her instead of just sexual attraction. One part of Enoch that always struck me is the passages about the Watchers crying and begging Enoch to talk to God for them. I thought the angels being unsure or not really knowing that this would make God as mad as it did was interesting. I liked the idea of him being an angel associated with water because of his role in the flood, so I made him a lesser angel of healing. I can go on and on.

In my original concepts of A&M (YEARS ago), I intended for Samyaza to be much more of a bad person, almost an antagonist to Azazel. But as I outlined, I started falling in love with this version of him.

Btw, it's okay if you dislike Samyaza and even dislike him after finishing the book. Not all characters have to be loved, and Samyaza would agree with you that he doesn't really deserve anyone's love or forgiveness after what he's done.

Tekken 8 storymode thoughts/rant/review

Obviously will contain spoilers

But I have to say that

Surprisingly, I really liked Tekken 8's story (which is something I really didn't expect. I was preparing to gaslight myself that I liked the story because I was expecting a mid plot. But I can definitely say that I genuinely enjoyed this installment's storymode)

I'm going to remove my kazujun stan lens for this review

Jin has always been an after thought to me. The only time I care about him is if it's connected either to Kazuya or Jun (as a kazujun shipper). But the way he was written in Tekken 8 added layers to him and developed his character well. Don't get me wrong though, IT WOULD NEVER REALLY ERASE THE FUCKED UP SHIT THEY DID WITH TK5-7, but Tekken 8 was sweeping up some of the garbage left behind.

I always joke about Jin and his war crimes. Obviously, waging war is bad irl, but this is fiction okay. Anyway, Tekken 8 somehow managed to make me really feel like Jin didn't want to wage war. It was more of a result of his own self deprecation. Add to this, he was already suicidal before he took over the Zaibatsu, but after Tk6, he just really sulked into the idea of having to carry his sins and let it define him for the rest of his life.

The way they turned Jin from this guy who's hopeless and is submerged in his own hatred towards his bloodline and himself to this guy who finally acknowledges that all of the bad things are a part of who he is, but it doesn't have to be who he completely is, was really really really written decently. This whole character development with Jin instantly makes Tekken 8 on par, if not equal to, Tekken 4 story writing. And I was really impressed and blown away with how they unfolded the development. Because I really didn't want the romanticization of all his past mistakes, and his allies just cheering him on. Instead, his allies actually acknowledge JIN AS A DEVIL literally and figuratively (e.g Hwoa saying Jin has those dope-ass powers, Leroy asking Jin who is he, Xiaoyu saying she isn't scared of Jin despite the devil look), but they all believed in the chance they gave him to atone for everything he's done wrong.

I wish we could've gotten more about the history of the devil gene. It's still a very vague concept, and I was kinda expecting Tekken 8 to answer most of the questions about it, but still no.

Although as a Jun stan, I'm upset she never really appeared in the real world, I have to say that I really like how they still kept going with Jun's persona as a mysterious woman. If you see a previous post of mine, I have always been scared that Tekken 8 would finally be the franchise who would ruin Jun's character, but they played safe with it. She's still as mysterious as ever, but they allowed her to show more of her kindheartedness.

Like I said, I really wish we could've gotten more. I wish we could've also got to explore Kazuya's perspective. It's been like 6 consecutive games, and we still haven't had a storymode that focuses on Kazuya's character (always the one sided villain). Although, I understand why they couldn't do it (maybe because of budget constraints, and it would really diminish and compress the quality of Jin's char dev if they're gonna focus on both of them). I'm assuming at least that we get Tekken 9 and have it shine a spotlight on Kaz.

Overall, I really liked it. It gets an 8/10 for me!

More things I kinda didn't like:

- Where the hell is Yoshimitsu???? He appears in the tournament and then goes Bye Felicia once Kazuya absorbed Azazel LMAOOOOO. His bio about investigating the Mishima bloodline and whatever didn't really reflect on the storymode :<<

- Nina and Steve.... Uhhh.... We already had them in Tk 7, and I was at least expecting that they would continue it in Tk 8

- The Asuka Kazama erasure.... She's just treated as another one of the side characters at this point. I fear she's just only in the game now because of Lili. She's very underdeveloped and underutilized and I feel so sad about it :<<

Tekken has a very interesting set of characters with amazing dynamics and chemistry with everyone else. It has a huge amount of lore to explore as well. And they could really do better by exploring and developing most of the characters. Here's to hoping we get a story expansion DLC not just for the main story, but also for the other beloved characters in the game.

Time for a rant on a beautiful au I found, I have escaped containment and none can stop me

@asleepyy's amazing Oopsie!Omens comic currently has me in a chokehold (in a good way) so now imma write a mini essay overanalyzing characterization and story points :] (go read it if you haven't it's right here)

The story they've crafted is incredible, and the view shift is a fascinating perspective. I recommend yall read it if you get the chance.

I just wanna go off about the potential endings that this entire story prompts. (This is WAAAAY far away in the comic, considering where they are in the plot currently, but this is about the end of S2 of the actual show, so beware spoilers)

If it goes according to how the show did, the Metatron is going to offer to return them both to Heaven, as well as restore Azazel's angelic form.

But my question now is, who is he going to ask? Many of the conversations had between characters, between the show and this comic, have been almost interchangeable between Azazel and Jophiel.

If he asks Jophiel, the answer is likely going to be 'I think the fuck not, don't ever talk to me again'.

By this point he's well aware of their manipulative tactics, and there's no way he would ever force himself or Azazel to go back to that.

But if that happened, I don't think Azazel would confess when Jophiel returns to the bookshop. Theyre too careful, too reserved. They like things as they are, and any thoughts to change that is awfully frightening. I don't think Aziraphale would have ever brought himself to confess first either, in the show. That's just not his style.

Conversely, (and in my opinion far more likely to happen,)

If he asks Azazel, and offers to restore their Angelic status and accept them back to Heaven (likely under the guise that some errors were found in paperwork or something, and that their good nature qualifies them to return), the situation becomes a bit more sensitive.

First of all, if that happened I'd be absolutely convinced that it was a trap,

And second, more importantly, Azazel loves God. They love Heaven. They still believe in kindness and goodness and wish for nothing more than a peaceful existence. If they had an opportunity to go back to that, I've no doubt they'd want to accept it, provided Jophiel came along.

"He said he could appoint me to be an angel. We could go back to Heaven and... and everything, like the old times. Only, even nicer."

Azazel has always been loyal to Heaven above all, it seems. They still believe in hope and love and all the things angels are meant to be. Of course they would jump at the chance to return to a place where they believe theyre cared about.

And it'd make Jophiel's refusal hurt that much worse. It would make Azazel's pleading that much more painful to bear. Because we know that heaven isn't as good as they want it to be. Jophiel knows it too. Azazel isn't naiive, theyre simply too kind for their own good. They look for the good in places where there's hardly any to be found. They always have.

"Well, obviously you said no to Hell, they're the bad guys. But Heaven... Well, it's the side of truth, of light, of good."

"When Heaven ends life here on Earth, it'll be just as dead as if Hell ended it.

Tell me you said no."

Jophiel would be pleading, begging Azazel to open their eyes, to see things as they are, and understand that Heaven isn't going to be what they want. It's still going to be cruel and cold and unforgiving, just like it was when they were Cast Out.

"Jophiel, come back! To Heaven! Work with me! We can be together! Angels...doing good!"

Isn't that what they always wanted? Theyve been burned (literally) by them, more times than can be counted, yet they still turn to God. They still retain Faith in the ones who abandoned them, truly trapped in this manipulative, abusive relationship.

"I dont think you understand what I'm offering you."

"I think I understand a whole lot better than you do."

And in the end...after the Kiss, at least if it's aligned with some of the other parallels in the comic, Azazel's last words to the angel will be

"...Forgive me."

(Not to mention, like i said before it's probably a trap, since it's been made clear that Heaven isn't a fan of Azazel anyway, if they go with them, Jophiel probably needs to come to their rescue afterward)

BUT THEN THERES ANOTHER POINT

Many theories are suggesting that, unseen to us, Metatron also threatened Crowley's soul, which is why Aziraphale was so desperate to have Crowley listen.

If we went with that direction,

Jophiel would be shocked when the Metatron says so. He would be afraid. He wouldn't know what to do. There wouldn't be much of another option, and he would be completely powerless to stop it from happening. In his mind he'd have no choice but to accept, and he'd likely be forced to submission in Heaven, unable to reveal the truth to Azazel, lest they be destroyed. The restored angel would be thrilled and so happy to be close to God again, and has no idea what kind of danger they're in, all riding on Jophiel's silence.

Azazel would be terrified. Jophiel was the first and likely only character to ever treat them like an equal. The idea of losing him would likely destroy them from the inside. They'd be more desperate than ever to have Jophiel join them, wanting to protect him like they've always tried to. Also, if this were the case they're likely wise to heaven's true intentions by now.

I dunno about you but I'm quite excited for my soul to be utterly s h a t t e r e d when that part happens

1.12 faith // cn discussion of 15.20 & dean's death //

am i going to wear out saying "my beloved" you bet your ass i am!!

but i mean look at him look at him look at him! sad because he's dying and he can't find a way to cheer his brother up! OH I COULD JUST ABOUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

faith is an episode that will drive you crazy with love. but if you watch it after the finale, it could destroy you.

in 1.06, we found dean declared legally dead. in 1.12 we find him actually dying. dean's impending death is a constant companion in supernatural. it stalks through faith, through devil's trap and in my time of dying. then through season two and three. resurrections don't stop it. it catches his scent. and it's for life.

i'm struggling not to just turn this into a finale post. because you could overlay dean's resigned, stoic attempts to make the best out of his death for sam over the cursed barn scene and nothing much would change. (except sam's attitude but that's a whole other conversation)

DEAN: Look, Sammy, what can I say, man, it's a dangerous gig. I drew the short straw. That's it, end of story.

unfortunately, the finale hunt also parallels this one. two siblings, trapped by a monster in the closet of a barn/basement. sam and dean find them and send them running off to safety. meanwhile dean...

and there is something so poignant about it being siblings they rescue both times.

but it's awful to watch dean's hopeless sunken eyes and know that even though he's saved this time, he will go through countless more deaths, countless more speeches about how that's all he's ever had waiting for him anyway and know he's right. that's it, end of story...

but i'll save the rest of the finale rant for its own post.

so let's move to another facet of dean's deaths, plural - his resurrections.

in faith, roy tells him the reason he picked dean is he saw "a young man with an important purpose. a job to do. and it isn't finished." so it begins - the condition of dean's resurrections. in 2.01, john sacrifices himself to azazel on the agreement he heal dean but not before john tells dean that it's his job to watch out for sam - and kill him if he has to. in 4.01, cas tells dean the reason he was brought back was because god has "work for you." in 6.11, though not technically resurrecting him from killing himself in that episode, death tells him, "you have use." in 13.05, billie resurrects him because? you guessed it: "you have work to do." the condition of dean's saved life is the labor others demand of him.

this brings us to another of dean's refrains - "why me?" in faith he asks roy what made him more important than the other people waiting to be healed (i will love you til the end of my days morals boy). in 2.20, he asks why he has to be responsible for saving everyone. in 4.01, he asks why an angel would rescue him from hell. in 4.02, he says "because why me? if there is a god out there, why would he give a crap about me?" in 4.15, he's arguing with cas that the people in the town deserve resurrection too, "you made an exception for me." cas says, "you're different."

"why me" communicates both dean's core belief that he's not special and yet he understands that for some reason he carries a huge amount of responsibility.

and this brings us to one of his other refrains, "pick someone else." dean says this to roy as soon as roy tries to beckon him onstage to be healed. after sam has pressured dean away from sitting in the back and chosen a seat much closer to the front. he doesn't want to be singled out - even if that means saving his life.

dean also says it in 4.16 after finding out he broke the first seal in hell and cas tells him it's his responsibility to stop the apocalypse. "find someone else. it's not me."

i think dean can feel the way the being singled out as special and the responsibility are all tied together. i think he feels he's being given second chances that other people deserve more for expectations he is never going to be able to meet.

he doesn't want to be saved like that.

so, at the end of the episode, when the reaper comes for him, he doesn't run. he knows layla is supposed to be getting healed that night. he lets the reaper painfully caress the side of his face. he falls to his knees.
