Headcanons about the Egg Bosses because I want see more of them.

Axel's arms have more cybernetic implants than what he uses, he prefers to not rely on them to Eggman not stop seeing value on him

He's the first one to warn the other Egg Bosses of the risks when they reveal intent to betray the Egg Army... But he's not actively stopping them.

Tundra hides a LOT of scars under his parka, the oldman has faced many battles already...

He also hides a locket with a photo of his deceased wife and, to everyone's surprise, an updated photo of Rotor under there.

Akhlut was the first one to find out about the previous fact and uses that to tease his rivals everytime he can... He wouldn't reveal it to Eggman, though.

Besides Tundra, Akhlut hates work with Abyss because he doesn't think she takes that work or even the risk of being paralyzed for whole decades seriously.

When Eggman said to Maw he had to choice a cybernetic implant, he asked a few options, put them in a roulette wheel and drew...

He is the Egg Boss who shows more respect for the other Egg Bosses' cultures and traditions, what makes almost all of them look at him with suspicion.

Thunderbolt is actually more powerful and effective in battle without her mechsuit... But Eggman isn't complaing because he thinks he can measure how loyal she remains through the appreciation she shows to the suit.

She hates particularly Shadow... Even more than Sonic, Mighty or any hero who really got in her way.

Nephtys started to use masks out of shame to hide her face, but it eventually turned into a hobby and she has a collection of them now.

She is the one who most tries to convince the other Egg Bosses to give up when they show intent to betray the Egg Army.

Conquering Storm frequently points out defects and errors in Eggman's strategies as well as more effective takes, she's not afraid of what he can do because she knows he'll see she's right.

Nobody knows what's her birth name, it was long lost before even of her bow down to the Egg Army.

Clove's boots aren't only fancy parts of her attire, they are her cybernetics, literally her legs...

But she refuses to use their functions because Cassia would get starstruck and want something akin, plus she herself abhors these new legs

Cassia won't grow up any more because both her illness and cybernetics messed with the development of her body

Her cybernetics also covers communication functions, so she can call Clove or the Northamer Egg Army any time, this was the first thing Clove asked to Eggman after he had assured Cassia's condition was stabilized.

Battle Lord's cybernetics are all internal, they're to substitute some of his old organs that were failing after so many battles

His division of the army is the most well coordinated.

Abyss' Egg Army division is the most effective one, what surprises about half of other Egg Bosses given her relaxed positioning

Also, she omits a lot of locations of Eggman because she wants to explore these places without Eggman rushing her, thus enjoying the treasure hunting

Mordred hadn't legs or arms before join to the Egg Army, that are his cybernetics

Also, he is actually the last of his kind, the last of the mobian snakes...

History

Emira was born to two witches whose families wanted their bloodlines to blend.

Though not in love, her parents tried to make it work, eventually having Emira but once she was brought into it the relationship didn’t really last long.

Her mother never remarried, though she did meet a man that she became involved with

Emira came into her powers at a young age, her mother beginning to teach her and helping her to hone her powers.

Upon graduation (with two years of college already under her belt thanks to dual enrollment), Emira moved to Chicago to attend University of Chicago, earning her undergrad degree, grad degree, and her law degree. It was here that she met her eventual baby daddy, though things didn't end up working out, she's grateful that they stayed cordial for the sake of their son, Axel, whom they share 50/50 custody with. She also met Camila, someone she had known about from back home in her coven but never really actually spoke to. The two hit it off almost instantly and Camila has since become the one constant and important person in her life aside from Axel and Camila's daughter, Karina. Raising their kids alongside each other and opening their partner firm has been nothing less of a dream come true in her opinion.

A year later, Roxy met Jamie Carter after spending an entire day hunting down the man for robbing her small bakery.

About a year ago, Emira was caught by the OEA and sacrificed. Axel has remained in his father's custody and now that she's back, Emira is determined to get her son back as well as put an end to the OEA once and for all, to the point of throwing away her morals to do so.

Eggman Enterprises

Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik

Dr. Eggman is, in his own words, the greatest scientific genius in the world, though that has come into question in recent years-- after all, with all the aliens the world has come to know, perhaps it's more accurate to say he's the greatest genius in the universe! But, like any good scientist, he uses his mind for good. What's more virtuous a goal than a perfect, worldwide theme park wherein everything is under his own control? No lines, no hunger, no fear, no individual thought-- it would be a paradise! (Also available in Classic flavor!)

Metal Sonic

Metal Sonic is Dr. Eggman's right-hand 'bot, and the stoic enforcer of the Eggman Empire. Don't let his silence fool you, however, because underneath his metal shell is an introspective and determined robot, who constantly strives to improve himself. Sometimes that drive gets him in trouble with his creator-- there was that one time he tried to rule the world on his own-- but any rebellious intentions have long since been scrubbed from his programming, and now he is a perfect, cold, calculating, nigh-unstoppable menace to all he encounters. (Also available in Classic flavor!)

Sage

Sage is among the bad doctor's greatest creations, and is his dearest (and only) daughter. Though she was originally programmed as a mere invasive AI, she has developed into a very personable young girl. Dedicated to the protection of her father and the propogation of the Eggman Empire, she has been integrated into the EggNet, and commands the digital side of Eggman's evil escapades. This doesn't mean she's nonpresent, however, as she can project a hard-light hologram in the physical world nearly anywhere that has a connection point to the EggNet.

Orbot & Cubot

The mechanical Abbot and Costello of the Eggman Empire, these two serve as Dr. Eggman's bumbling personal assistants. Orbot tends to play straightman to Cubot's bumbling fool, but let it be known, neither are particularly competent. Not that they seek to impress in that regard anyway-- unless Metal or Sage are involved. They desperately wish to make good impressions on their "siblings", which tends to get them into even more trouble than when they don't try at all.

Thunderbolt the Chinchilla

Thunderbolt is the bad doctor's most dedicated general. Whether he likes it or not. Loyal to an obsessive degree, she will do anything to please the Eggman, no matter how heinous, vile, or inconvenient it is. Despite her appearance, she's no force to be underestimated. With electrical powers rivalling Surge and a mean streak to match, she can be deadly when caught in the wrong mood. Add onto that her custom battle armor, and she becomes someone that anyone would rather avoid than face head-on.

Axel the Water Buffalo

Boasting incredible strength and loyalty to his crew, even before being conscripted and cyberized by the Eggman, Axel is a great leader in his own right. For years he ran a gang in the Efrikan plains, with one major motto: You take care of the crew, and the crew takes care of you. His joining with the Eggman Empire was influenced by that creed. It was either that or watch their homeland be ravaged by industrialization. He still rides with his crew, with the goal of securing the Eggman Empire's grip over the region.

Clove the Pronghorn

Clove's partnership with the Eggman was not one born out of desire. When her sister, Cassia, contracted a rare and deadly disease known as N.I.D.S., Clove felt she had no other choice but to join the doctor's empire, in hopes he could develop a cure for her. With her serious demeanor and combat prowess, she rose through the ranks quickly, until she became the Egg Boss presiding over the region of Northamer, with her younger sister at her side the whole way through.

Cassia the Pronghorn

Much more playful than her older sister, the only real reason she ranks so high in the army is nepotism. Not that she minds. She loves having a whole army to boss around. Though she doesn't really grasp the gravity of her situation as well as her sister, she's more than capable of taking care of herself when needbe. Despite her naivete and youthful demeanor, however, she's fully aware of the seriousness of her illness, despite Clove's best efforts, and while it would inaccurate to call her demeanor a farce, much of it is a performance to make sure her sister doesn't lose faith.

Team Hooligans

Fang the Hunter

The brains behind Team Hooligans, Fang is cutthroat bounty hunter living in the Mirage Saloon Zone, not that he ever stays in one place for long. His jobs tend to take him all over the world, especially when he does work for the diabolical Dr. Eggman. Indeed, Fang will take most any job if it pays high enough. The man'd even sell out his own mother for a pretty ring.

Bark the Polar Bear

Bark is the brawn and the heart of Team Hooligans. He is a calming presence around his two fellow criminals, and though he is one of the most wanted men in the world thanks to his association with Bean, those who get to know him tend to feel he isn't that bad a guy, he's just fallen in with a bad crowd. Whether they're the right crowd for him or not, however, he is fiercely loyal to his team, and will fight to the last to keep them safe.

Bean the Dynamite

Some say he's a duck, others say he's a woodpecker. What does the man himself say? He's Bean! Beanaldo Remington Beaksworth IV, to be exact! Yes, Bean isn't a particularly stable person. In fact, some would go so far as to call him insane. Which makes him very dangerous when he uses his trademark bombs. It's unknown exactly how he creates those high explosives as if from nothing, but then, much of Bean's existence defies explanation. All anyone knows is that he's the Hooligans' wildcard, and he's better left avoided at all cost.

Battle Kukku Empire

Great Battle Kukku XV

Don't let the name of his army, or his swaggering steps fool you-- the Great Battle Kukku is more of a pirate captain than an imperial ruler. His crew? The Grand Battle Kukku Armada. He is the self-proclaimed ruler of the skies, and will raid any town, facility, or ruins to sustain that rule. He also has the ability to create bombs at his leisure, much like a certain Dynamite Duck...

Battle Kukku XVI / "Speedy"

Speedy is the second in command of the Battle Kukku Empire, and the son of the Great Battle Kukku. He prides himself on his fast flying, boosted even further when he wears a special flight suit developed by Kukku chief science officer Dr. Fukurokov. He believes the skies belong only to the birds-- even bats and bugs are lesser in his eyes. But the one being he truly hates is one Miles "Tails" Prower-- no wingless mammal is welcome in Speedy's skies!

Dr. Fukurokov

Dr. Fukurokov is the greatest mind the clouds have ever seen. It's arguable whether he rivals Dr. Eggman in intelligence, but he frankly doesn't give a hoot if he does or not. Eggman may have more powerful tech, but none can match the developmental potential of Fukurokov's machines! Ultimately, Dr. Fukurokov is a curious and inquisitive creature by nature. He is always ready to study, and always willing to adapt. Just...make sure you don't pronounce his name wrong.

Other

Surge the Tenrec

Suffering from psychosis, amnesia, various traumas, and a bad case of the old identity crisis, Surge is a cyborg created by the vile Dr. Starline to not just kill, but replace Sonic the Hedgehog. Ever since the dear doctor's death at the hands of Dr. Eggman and a particularly vengeful boulder, Surge and her companion have struck out on their own. Driven mad by hypnosis and months of psychological abuse, her only goal now is to burn the entire world down, sift through the ashes for the bodies of the ones she loathes the most, and hang them up on the wall as trophies for her grandest accomplishment.

Kitsunami the Fennec

Kit is the Tails to Surge's Sonic. To that end, he is endlessly devoted to her, even at the cost of his own personal safety and wellness. He will do anything she says with a polite "yes ma'am!", and without her has a tendency to shut down and shut the world out. Don't let his appearance and demeanor fool you, though. He is a living weapon just like his partner, and his control over ice and water makes him a very dangerous foe on the rare occasions he lets loose. He is prone to outbursts of hellish fury when he believes Surge to be hurt or worse, and would tear down the world itself to protect her.

Mr. Tinker

An alternate version of everyone's least favorite doctor, Mr. Tinker is everything Dr. Eggman is not. Kind, caring, humble, and beloved by his community. Though a mad scientist by the name of Dr. Starline tried to revert him to his old, evil self, somehow Tinker managed to survive the torture and conditioning and was rescued by Sonic and friends. Now, he seeks only a humble life helping to fix the gizmos and gadgets of those around him, with no sign of the Eggman ever returning. He has been having these awful nightmares of late, though...

Abyss: “Liar! I don’t even drink that crap!”

Thunderbolt: “Ok let’s not fight I broke it let me pay for it, Doctor.”

Eggman: “No! Who broke it?!”

Egg Bosses: “...”

Mordred: “Doc, Clove’s been awfully quiet.”

Clove: “REALLY?!”

Eggman (To Camera): “I broke it. It burned my hand so I punched it. I predict ten minutes from now they’ll be at each others throats with war paint on their faces and a pig head on a stick. Good. It was getting a little chummy around here.”

This started out as something fun I drew after watching Zootopia a few days ago, I originally just drew Vanitas and Ventus, but in the mind of ‘I need to do the entire set’, I’ve drawn all the trios (+Isa) as if they’ve just stepped into Zootopia to investigate the dark underbelly of the city. Some are used to having to protect the World Order by altering their appearances, others not so much.

A lot of these were actually really hard to draw. Terra especially- I had to redraw him about 3 times because while he looked like a bear, he didn’t look like Terra. I had to go right back to basic shapes and work from there!

Vanitas’ clothes are of my own design. I’ll keep it short here, but I based them off Ventus, Roxas, Sora and MX’ clothes- the characters Vanitas has close ties to. I have his actual outfit drawn out normally, but I haven’t posted it yet and I’m not sure I will.

The animals they’ve magicked into are on the pictures if clicked on, but if that doesn’t work; I’ve listed them along with musings under the cut. I’ve bolded the names and their animals for easy skimming.

Sora is an African lion- due to both call backs of him being a lion in Pridelands, as well as his concept art. Kairi is a chinchilla, because they’re cute, fluffy and bite hard when irritated. Riku is a spotted hyena, due to his ties to the darkness and Disney really not liking hyenas much.

Vanitas is a Lynx. I just thought he suited a lynx. Ventus is a Rabbit. If you’re familiar with my KH/HDM series, you’ll recognise Ventus’ design as it's similar to his Daemon in that series. It's also why he’s the only character related to Sora who’s not a feline. Aqua is a River Otter, it's no big leap in logic to figure out why, since it's in her name. Terra is a Grizzly Bear because he’s big, imposing and strong as well as protective.

Roxas is a Serval for the same reason as why Ventus is a bunny. Xion is an African Leopard (Panther). Axel is a Maned Wolf, due to his lanky appearance and snarky attitude. Isa is a Grey Wolf for his ties to the moon, but also the same reasoning as Ventus and Roxas.

I started off with the BBS trio +Vanitas, with Vanitas and Ventus first. I then did the Destiny Trio and the Sea Salt Family last; the opposite order to how I usually draw Trio/family sets.

Lost potential in Archie: The Egg Bosses

I miss a few things from Archie Sonic. I don’t miss Sally or the Kingdom of Acorn. But I do miss the Freedom Fighters as a whole although I thought they were misnamed. I do miss Bunnie and Antoine and Rotor. I don’t miss Sally at all but with a reduced role or being a completely separate thing from Sonic, I am okay with her. I even miss Meropolis and it’s eccentricities of its denizens.

Archie left a lot of dangling threads on the table and I agree with Archie sympathizers that it is disappointing that these characters aren’t coming back.

But my main grievance of the several narrative casualties are the Egg Bosses.

The Egg Bosses were interesting in that Eggman, in both the games and comics, isn’t against working with anthros to further is goals. In fact, his greatest successes contributed to working with anthros like Knuckles, Shadow, Infinite, Mimic, and Dr. Starline. So it’s no surprise that Archie Eggman would use the denizens of the areas that he is trying to conquer and there are anthros that are sympathetic or sympathetic enough to fight for Eggman.

What makes the Egg Bosses interesting in that they have varying allegiances towards Eggman as well each having their agendas or justification as to why they do. If I had to rank who is the most loyal to him, it would be:

1. Thunderbolt the Chinchilla

2. Maw the Thylacine

3. Nephthys the Vulture

4. Axel the Water Buffalo

5. Abyss the Squid

6. Ahklut the Orca

7. Tundra the Walrus

8. Conquering Storm the Lynx

9. Lord Mordred Hood

10. Cassia the Pronghorn & her sister Clove

11. Battle Lord Kukku XV

Not including Wendy but you can configure her in yourself.

But you shouldn’t base this on loyalty. Of all the Egg Bosses, I’d say two actually like him and support his conquest. A few only support him because they are amoral criminals and have the most to gain fighting alongside him i.e. Axel and Abyss. Others have their own agendas and Eggman assisted them in their own goals i.e. Ahklut and Conquering Storm. Others did so out of fear i.e. Tundra and Lord Mordred. And only two did so to help and protect loved ones ie Cassia and Nephthys. 1 is looking to outright betray Eggman and is looking forward to the day the tables are turned ieBattle Kukku.

Each of the Egg Bosses had their own motivations and modus operandi. How Eggman kept them in line is good ol’ fashioned control chips that function like slave collars. This showed the sinister side of Eggman in that he wasn’t just a cartoonishly evil villain. He was one that was aware that he couldn’t do it alone and employed others to assist him in his goal of his means weren’t enough.

Eggman forming the Egg Bosses showed that he learned his lesson. He was competent and a persistent threat with the formation of the Egg Bosses.

Because Flynn felt he spent too much time setting up things only for his work to end prematurely, I feel like we aren’t going to get Egg Bosses because that involves too many moving parts and pieces. Also, none of these characters save for Battle Kukku because he is a game character actually could be in IDW so these designs and characters were scrapped.

But they did bring back the idea of the Egg Bosses in characters like Dr. Starline, Rough and Tumble, and Mimic. Dr. Starline is an amalgamation of Thunderbolt and Maw with his fanatical loyalty to Eggman. People say he is a Snively clone forget that Snively was only loyal to Eggman to a point. In fact, Maw was the character who was given the Zombox Virus and tested it on behalf of Eggman. Mimic is a mixture of the hopelessness of fighting against Eggman motivations of Nephythys and Lord Mordred with a mix of selfishness and looking out for himself. Rough and Tumble are just amoral criminals like Abyss and Axel without the implied intelligence. The Zeti are the back stabbed who don’t really work for Eggman anymore like Battle Kukku.

With that being said, there are talks of another female villain being introduced and it won’t surprise me if she is of the same mold as Cassia and Conquering Storm.
