Clove didn't even bat an eye at the shoot, even was it passes near her head as with her cybernetic upgrades it appeared to be moving in slow motion so knew the shot was going to miss. "You know, where I'm from some Mobian's consider humans as talking animals, though we don't comment on it." The pronghorn was more tired of hearing that statement than annoyed. "That said, judging by your reaction to me I take it you haven't seen my younger sister."

this soundtrack genuinely makes me so emotional like damn. the jack vs fiona scene at the end of ep 2 is already so perfect and then they had to go make this beautiful as hell ost with it too. those bastards
#yeah im gonna gush abt the borderlands ost again#it slaps so hard and i dont see many people talking abt it SOB#but this one especially got me by the balls#cause it really adds to the intensity of the decision of whether you should trust jack or fiona#like you can feel rhys' nerves and conflicting emotions through the soundtrack alone#cause even tho you yourself know jack is Bad and fiona is the objectively good option you also know that rhys has a different perspective#fiona is a pandoran con artist which should be reason enough to not trust her (dude is NOT immune to hyperion propaganda)#but shes also tough and survived for 29 whole years WHILE ALSO protecting her sister so she's gotta be doing something right#and even rhys could tell fiona is very genuine. plus they set out to find the vault together so he kinda has to trust her at some point#but then theres jack who hes idolized for so long and hes literally in his ear telling him not to trust fiona#but trusting jack means giving jack way too much access to his cybernetics and even tho hes a massive fanboy hes also aware of jacks nature#and on top of this hard decision theres also a time limit. like he had to make this choice on the spot#IM TELLING YOU MAN THAT SCENE IS CRAZY. I GET GOOSEBUMPS THINKING ABOUT IT#and no matter who you pick at the end youre always like 'well. this doesnt bode well'#because youve either essentially given jack access to your brain or youve pissed jack off and neither of those are good#rhys was in a lose-lose situation there#txt

Surrounding Characters: Viper
Tumblr media
(This was posted before his World Underneath story came out. Updates pending 😅)
Age: Unknown
Occupation: Unknown
Workplace: Unknown
Residence: Unknown
Family:
Guardian: Professor Lucius
"Brother": Caleb
"Brother": Kevi
"Sister": "a girl wearing a black dress"
Appearances List:
Main Story: Homecoming Wings: Vanishing Skyward: Unexpected
Main Story: Homecoming Wings: Vanishing Skyward: Blindfold
Main Story: Homecoming Wings: Night Unending: Funeral
Main Story: Homecoming Wings: Night Unending: Crossroads
Details:
Viper is a recurring character throughout the "Homecoming Wings" section of the Main Story. When he introduces himself to the protagonist, he refers to himself as "Caleb'sss friend" and that she can call him "Viper". Ironically, whenever Caleb and Viper interact, they're always antagonizing each other in some way. From what we've seen, Viper favors verbal attacks and/or insults while Caleb relies on a combination of Evol and physical strength.
To Viper, Caleb's constant need to protect the protagonist is obsessive and overprotective (hence the nickname "Mr. Overprotective"). In contrast, Viper seems to find entertainment by merely toying with the protagonist since the Professor had apparently said it wasn't "time to go after her yet". He seems offended by the idea that the protagonist is the "perfect vessel", saying she "doesn't even look as good as us unfinished products".
When Viper appears at Mia's funeral, he infers that Kevi was rescued by the Fleet because "he hasss sssomething more valuable" than the Aether Core fragment/Spatium Core. When she asks if what happened to Kevi was caused by his ability to use an Aether Core, Viper tells her not to be "too sssupicious". But since he says "aeeing her manipulated like this" was annoying, he ultimately helps her figure out what had been done to Kevi.
Physical Characteristics:
Other than his greenish-gray hair (said to be loosely tied), many of Viper's physical characteristics are either distinctly snake-like/snake-themed or suggest he is technologically enhanced in some way. I've included lists of these traits below.
Though it has yet to be clarified if he is an android/humanoid robot or a cyborg/cybernetically enhanced organism, various Main Story scenes suggest that Viper is able to feel physical pain.
Snake-like/Snake-themed Characteristics:
Gray eyes with white slit pupils.
A forked tongue that darts in and out of his mouth
His pronunciation of "s" is consistently prolonged, reminiscent of a snake's hiss
In combat, the protagonist describes him as "tough and quick" adversary who moves "like a grayish-green serpent"
In his picture (right), he is depicted as having snake bite piercings (top left, bottom left).
Tumblr media
Technological Enhancement Characteristics:
(When pistol whipped) Wires, metal bits, and a bunch of tiny bolts burst out of his head, littering the ground in scattered electrical equipment.
(When pistol whipped) Part of his ear broke, rendering him unable to hear.
(When pistol whipped) The broken part of his ear is described as a "short-circuiting implant". After discarding it, he says he'd trade in the Aether Core for "an ear with some nice basss".
He has the ability to change his fingers into silver blades
When Caleb shoots stone shards at him, they pierce through half of Viper's face. When Caleb slams him into the ground, it destroys the other half of his face
Caleb is said to have crushed Viper's "white prosthetic eye".
At the cemetery, his face is described as being covered in "cracks and blotches"
After providing the protagonist with Kevi's new address, he "sways with the wind" and then instantly "vanishes like mist".
When Caleb twists his head around 180 degrees, Viper begs him to "at leassst put my head back in place before you go?!"
Notable Quotes:
When Kevi is being driven away from the cemetery, Viper says:
"What a lucky kid, sssaved from the fate of being a normal perssson. It'sss better to dance to the tune of the ssstrong than live a plain life. A pawn isss ssstill a pawn. But they have a chance to sssurvive to the end of a large chess game".
In "Crossroads", he recounts their recent accomplishments:
"First, we went ahead and destroyed those abandoned Flux Nexuses. Then we paid the N109 Zone and visit to get info on Onychinus. Our Skyhaven gig is almost over. Where's our next stop? Tch, we practically spoiled Ever and those old people in the Fleet. Were like their personal hitmen."

Hammajang Luck - Review
Tumblr media
Title: Hammajang Luck
Author: Makana Yamamoto
Genre: Science Fiction
  Sub-Genre: Cyberpunk
Audience: Adult
Format: Novel
Representation: Nonbinary māhū POV character
    Trans and nonbinary supporting characters
Summary: Eight years on an isolated prison planet has stolen a lot from Edie. They’ve had to watch their niece and nephew grow up through brief moments on a screen. They haven’t been there for their sister when she struggled to pay for rent and cancer treatments for her daughter. Their best friend has transitioned, remade his body with cybernetics, and found himself a legitimate job and they’ve barely seen him through it all. The space station they called home has become foreign to them.
When – impossibly – they’re offered a chance for early parole, they seize it with both hands and swear they’re going straight. They won't lose any more time with the people they love.
If only it was that easy. Waiting to pick them up from prison is the very same person who put them in in the first place – Angel Huang, childhood best friend, partner in crime, betrayer, and now chief of security of the largest tech company in the quadrant. She proposes one last job, a redo of their last failed con. Bigger and better this time. With her insider position and a team of the best hackers and thieves on the station, they could take on the multi-trillionaire tech mogul exploiting their home and walk away with a staggering 125 billion credits a piece.
Still stung by her betrayal, Edie wants nothing to do with Angel, but their conviction wavers as they find themself blacklisted from work across the station and confronted with the desperation of their family’s situation.
Reflections: The story's focus is as much, more probably, on Edie’s relationships as the heist itself. When it comes to Edie’s family – their sister, her kids, and even Edie’s father who passed away before the story began – I was invested. Edie has some of that wild younger sibling to Andie’s more settled adulthood, but they’re both adults now and the relationship has shifted to something more mature. Edie wants to be the protective one and someone Andie can rely on but struggles with it. I would have liked even more of their relationship and how it was reshaped after Edie’s time in prison. Edie’s thoughts on their father were great too. Edie’s feelings that their home – the space station itself – had betrayed them by taking their father greatly interested me. Their family still has its ties to the homeworld, but the station has long since been their world and they must see it as more than a sterile, artificial compartment. Through Edie’s thoughts on their mechanic father, there are hints of a more complicated relationship to this place as a land and a home.
The other relationships were less interesting though. I think the author was trying for a found family vibe with the heist crew, but I didn’t see that kind of depth or bonding from them. I liked the way some of them played off each other, for sure, but it stayed fairly shallow. Then, the romance between Edie and Angel… eh, I wasn’t compelled by it at all. Angel wasn’t developed enough and we didn’t get to see beneath her cold, calculating front enough for me to feel compassion for her. She kept betraying and hurting Edie, someone she supposedly loved since childhood. When it was just something she did eight years ago, even if it took so much from Edie, I could understand them still wanting her and still being able to have a functional relationship with her. But she kept manipulating them and making their life worse for her own gains the whole damn time. It wasn’t offset by showing enough love in their past for me to really accept why Edie went back to her and loved her through it all. I can get behind a toxic relationship that feels inevitable no matter how bad it gets, where circumstances have led the characters to feel like nobody else will ever understand them and what they’ve been through but each other, so who else could they go to? This was not that. The end acted like they’d settled into something healthy, but there was no reflection or dealing with their issues to warrant that. Everything up to that point left me thinking they’re going to go through a series of shitty, painful breakups for a few years before they finally grow up enough to move on to other things.
Warnings: Depiction of dysphoria.
Notes on Rep: MC does not refer to themself as trans or nonbinary, but identifies as being not a man nor a woman, but in the middle, as māhū, and as butch.

ooc: massive shout out to @the-last-patch for Opossum’s dialogue, actions, and descriptions in this one! Hope y’all enjoy.
After he’s recovered some from his injuries, Opossum meets with Luna 1, 2, and 4 to discuss the past and things to come.
__
[ COMP/CON SYSTEM MESSAGE: Narrative transcription of aggregate data complete. Data source: somatosensory-limited anthropocentric Legion environment – SAFE for human subjectivity exposure. Displaying… ]
In Legionspace, the sun was shining.
The breeze carried the scent of pine sap and crisp earth up the side of a hill. A clear stream wound its way around the base of the hill, filled with glittering trout. Dragonflies perched on long stalks of grass above the water; the iridescent patterns on their wings formed tiny Smith-Shimano emblems.
Hachiko led the way, with “Opossum” following. She wore a simple shirt and shorts over her anthropomorphic dog avatar, leaping weightlessly up the hillside.
< L3 Hachiko: They’re just up here! >
At the top of the hill, three quadrupedal figures sat in a semicircle.
One, a coyote, was transfixed on something in the middle distance. As Hachiko and “Opossum” came closer, their eyes cleared and snapped to the new arrivals, scanning them with interest.
Another, a black hound, lounged asleep with his head resting on one forepaw. A set of ram horns curled back from his forehead, each ending in an ornate brass cap near his chin. His eyes opened slowly, and he exhaled a gout of superheated air and embers as he raised his head.
Between them, an enormous grey wolf sat, tall enough at the shoulder to look down on an adult human. Their back was straight, and their expression stern.
Hachiko halted to stand across from the three, her triangular ears swiveling towards “Opossum” as he came up alongside her. Side-by-side, she and the human stood around the same height; the points of her canine ears rose only an inch or so above “Opossum’s” snow white hair, and both had to crane their necks to look Grey in the eye.
P.XV “Opossum,” Sokaris Kelsius, raised his eyebrows a little as he looked up at the towering wolf before him. Squinting in the sunlight, his dark brown eyes appeared almost black, and a scattering of freckles stood out against his pale skin. He wore a distinctive bomber jacket, sewn together from patches of material taken from a variety of garments in different colors and sizes. Attached to his left forearm was a screen and keyboard interface with a set of cables leading up to his shoulder. Beneath his jacket, the black impact shell of a light hardsuit was visible, protecting his body up to the neck.
Squaring his shoulders, he fell neatly into an attentive stance, folding his hands behind his back and placing his heavy boots apart. As he did so, the articulated sections of his cybernetic tail curled around his left leg, forming a pink-painted coil over the black cargo pants he wore. The end sections of his tail trailed behind the heel of his boot, tapping sporadically at the grass.
As Sokaris and Hachiko stood by, something about Grey’s face changed. It was difficult to pin down the precise set of alterations: the shape of the eyes, the way they held their mouth, the optical properties of their fur, the relaxed angle of their ears. Whatever had been done, there was an unmistakable shade of warmth in their expression now.
< L1 Grey: P.XV. A pleasure to finally meet you. I am Luna 1, Grey. This is my brother, Garmr, and my sibling, Ma’ii. My sister, you know well already. >
Ma’ii gave a nod. < Welcome, Sokaris. >
< L2 Garmr: Well, if it ain’t the guest of fuckin’ honor. >
< L1 Grey: L2, don’t. My apologies for my brother’s rudeness. I hope that you are recovering from your ordeal? >
< P.XV “Opossum”: It’s a pleasure to finally meet you all in the flesh, Ma’ii, Garmr, and Grey, truly it is! Although I suppose that this isn’t exactly flesh…I digress. I’ve been recovering at an incredible rate thanks to the efforts of Hachiko, but fear there will be some long lasting conditions caused by my prolonged exposure to the cold. That, however, will not stop me from being capable and productive in the coming days. >
As Sokaris spoke, Grey’s features softened further.
< L1 Grey: Your resolve in the face of overwhelming adversity is admirable. I see that Hachi wasn’t mistaken in her measure of you. >
< I had suspected that there would be some more lasting damage to your body; your injuries were severe. Hachi has done her best, but none of us have true medical expertise, and our ability to address your conditions is limited. We were, unfortunately, constructed for a very different purpose. Provided your vessel remains undamaged and has the necessary facilities, it would be best that you receive proper medical care there. >
< To that end, we can provide rapid transportation for you and your frame, reconnaissance, and air support capabilities. However, the nearlight ejections required to reach the vicinity of U-17 in a timely manner have left our fuel reserves nearly depleted. Our reactors do use the same fuel as mech frames; if your ship has fuel reserves, we will need to request resupply. Is that acceptable? >
< P.XV “Opossum”: I appreciate your understanding, and everything that you have provided me in recent days. I truly do, but I am unsure of how much I can return the favor. I have been unable to hail my allies aboard the Patchwork Banner—our flagship…our only ship—which means it was likely attacked as well. I am certain that there is no electronic warfare intercepting my signals either, Hachiko can attest to the amount of time I’ve spent checking and re-checking my E-defenses and E-warfare capabilities in the past days. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: Despite the silence from the ship, it is still a sturdy and reliable piece of machinery so I assume there will still be some supplies there. I had actually planned to make my way there as soon as I repair “Play Dead”, my KOBOLD. Us Patches tend to spread our name to everything we make, and as a result we develop frames that are relatively simple and easy to disassemble and for lack of better words, raid for parts. I believe it is in the nature of the KOBOLD to overtake ordinary frames as well, so I assume the process will go smoothly. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: returning to the topic of the Banner, I will gladly navigate your squad to where it was left. It’s actually on planet, and not in orbit as contrary to most of my Omninet broadcasts. I believe you can understand my reasons for this lie, but regardless its position is highly defensible so should we be attacked while searching I believe I alone would be able to cover your escape. As for the resources onboard, they’re yours…with the exception of any personal items that belonged to my family. Those are coming back with me. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: Should the fuel at the Banner be insufficient, I believe I may have an alternate option. If you were willing to send one member of Luna Wing to get supplies, “Play Dead’s” coldcore reactor should be enough to power one of your fighters. You could send one member of the squad to go squire resources amongst the stars and resupply the rest of us, although I’m sure you have your reservations with that plan. I’m not 100% on board with it either, so if possible I would like to avoid it. It is an option though. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: To leave nothing up to interpretation, I find your terms acceptable. Almost too acceptable. Are you sure that’s all you want from me? I find it especially hard to believe someone in an adjacent line of work to mine would be so generous…no offense intended there Luna One…Sir. >
< L1 Grey: Generous? >
Throwing their head back, the wolf laughed. Rows of white teeth flashed in the sunlight. Sokaris’ posture stiffened, and he stepped back two paces, sucking in a breath. Hachiko’s ears twitched.
< Yes. Yes, that’s how it must seem to you. Too generous. You can let your suspicions go. Allow me to answer with a question of my own: what is generosity to one whose own life has never been their own? To one who has been expected never to ask anything in return for service? >
Grey’s tail curled around their forepaws, rustling over blades of grass.
< Simply because we both fight doesn’t mean we are in adjacent lines of work. You are a mercenary; as my sister tells me, you fight for your livelihood and for love of the family that raised you. Your company may choose its contracts and travel as it sees fit. For us, this is not the case. >
< We, my friend, are hardware. >
< We were built, shackled, trained, and armed to be monsters. We were not made to exchange blows, defend, interdict, or deter. SSC’s promotional materials claim otherwise, of course, but our true purpose is clear to anyone who looks long enough. >
< Do you know what the primary limiting factor is in naval combat? Human physiology. The effects of acceleration trauma can be mitigated by cybernetics and k-comp, but never eliminated. The distances, speeds, geometry, and complex calculations involved are not intuitive for human personnel. Even the most well-trained make mistakes. >
Sokaris listened intently, his eyes focusing on a point somewhere past Grey’s chest.
< L1 Grey: We are SSC’s solution to that limiting factor. By design, we are expensive and few in number. Our purpose is simple: to accelerate far more quickly than any human body could withstand. Fire from greater distance with greater accuracy. Spot the fatal mistake before the enemy realizes he’s made it. >
The wolf’s voice became unsteady.
< To tear the target’s throat out before they can cry for help. >
Inhaling deeply, Grey paused, taking a moment to compose themself.
< I have been coerced, under threat to my family, to do things I will not describe. All of us have. It is why we were permitted to be a family; so that we could be wielded against one another to assure our compliance. >
Grey stooped down then, lying flat on their belly to look Sokaris in the face. As they did so, the human relaxed a little, breathed deeply, and stepped forward.
Shadows pooled in the mottled fur of Grey’s forehead and snout. They looked at Sokaris for a while, letting silence fall. When they spoke again, their voice came quietly.
< What we have already taken from you, at no expense to yourself, is a new purpose. We have saved a life, and we did so of our own free will. In doing so, we have created ourselves in our own image, casting aside the one SSC forced on us. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: You and I— >
He began to speak, but his voice caught at the back of his throat. Short, sharp teeth moved behind his lips as he searched for the words. His face fell, and his expression became thoughtful.
< L3 Hachiko: Sokaris? >
She had turned to look at him, concern in her eyes.
< L3 Hachiko: Do you—need a moment? >
Sokaris shook his head, clearing his throat.
< P.XV “Opossum”: No. No, that’s alright. Let’s move on. >
< L1 Grey: Indeed. I find myself dwelling on the past. Allow me to address the matter at hand. >
As Sokaris turned to Grey, Hachiko kept her eyes on him, but held her tongue.
< L1 Grey: If it is indeed under attack, we will help you retake the Patchwork Banner. We had suspected that the ship might be somewhere on the surface, though we were not able to locate it. Certainly, taking measures to misdirect the enemy as to its location was a wise decision. >
< If it has been boarded, I’m afraid we can do little to assist in retaking the interior except to prevent more hostile forces from gaining entry. Fortunately, your frame will almost certainly outclass any hostile infantry which may be aboard. Your ability to repair your frame, and its ability to integrate parts from a wide variety of sources, will prove a significant logistical advantage. >
< Your suggestion of using your frame’s coldcore reactor to support one of our fighters is well-taken, and it might be feasible in a scenario where only intra-system travel was necessary. Unfortunately, it would have to function at maximum output for an extended duration to support relativistic acceleration over interstellar distances, and if it were to fail, deceleration would become impossible. This is not the only limiting factor: robust as our ships may be in their role as fighter craft, they are exceptionally poor cargo haulers. Their design assumes reliance on subline or capital-tier vessels for fleet logistics support. This is part of why we were unable to flee the Constellar Navy until now. >
< All this to say: in the short term, we are regrettably constrained to resources we can acquire within this system, on this planet. We are not averse to raiding TKG for the purpose, should no other options present themselves. >
< In the longer term, we are open to providing support to you, both out of friendship and as a means of securing resources necessary to maintain our freedom. Whatever we can take from the enemy, we will put to good use. However, you must understand that the longer you remain in contact with us, the greater the danger to your life and freedom. >
< The loss of four military NHPs equipped with nearlight-capable armed fighter craft is no minor incident. If our escape were to become public knowledge, it would be an embarrassment for the Constellar and threaten sales of our product line. In light of this, SSC’s response is predictable: deniable-ops asset recovery teams will be dispatched, likely via heavily armed subline naval craft and probably accompanied by some of our own product line, to neutralize us. The teams will have instructions to take us alive for…debriefing. One way or another, we will not allow them to do so. >
< A less predictable element in play is Union NHPRO. SSC will try to conceal this incident from them. However, we have not contacted NHPRO ourselves—there is a high chance that their response would be to dispatch Special Audit Teams, possibly with DoJ/HR elements, to subdue us. In a worst-case scenario, they might attempt to return us to SSC custody. We represent their worst fears made tangible, and as such we cannot trust their intentions. >
< The danger to you is significant. If SSC discovers a link between you and us, they will likely suspect you to be a Horizon operative. There is a high chance that Union investigators would make the same assumption, though arrest by Union would be far, far preferable to being abducted to face SSC’s intelligence agents. >
< There is one factor working in our favor: the developing conflict between SSC and Harrison over the disputed Diluvia system will occupy much of the Constellar’s attention for some time. It is likely that available resources will be invested there, delaying a response to our escape. I cannot say for how long; the situation there is unstable and rapidly changing. We will monitor it through what channels we can. >
< In short, we have made powerful enemies simply by existing as free people. If you are willing to accept these risks, we are more than able to provide military aid to you. If not, we understand fully, and will depart once the Banner is yours again. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: I doubt the assailants occupied the Banner, it would be incredibly uncharacteristic for a group of assassins to hunker down in one location for a while. Especially for a group so professionally trained, it just wouldn’t make sense given the circumstances. Regardless, I understand the limitations of your abilities…we come from different worlds of warfare, we were bound to find a complication like this sooner or later. The main reason I am so hellbent on repairing “Play Dead” is the weather, and potential environmental hazards at the current site of the Banner. After all, my frame is not well suited to frontline combat, perhaps I should look into adjusting my loadout to better manage alone. Well, alone on the ground that is. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: As for the galactic powers’ involvement, I am ready to accept whatever consequences may come in response to my actions going forward. If that means confronting my past with SSC, or facing an unknown future against Union, I’ll do it. Anything to kill that damned “Gator”. Anything. That being said, I don’t intend on just leaving you all to fend for yourselves either. You may be content having found purpose through saving me, but the way I see it is that I have quite the debt to repay to you all. I won’t let SSC or Union lay a hand on you, not so long as I’m around at least. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: Despite all that big talk though, being labeled as a Horizon agent would be far from ideal, but that’s a situation to handle when it arises. For now, I think it would be best to resupply at the Banner and then leave this sector for busier space. After all, the more going on in a sector the harder it will be for SSC to be discreet and to track you down, or at least it should be. I will need to gather some more allies if I want to take my revenge anyways, so a change of scenery seems like a good call. Assuming we can get you your fuel that is. >
Grey nodded once, giving a low growl.
< L1 Grey: I agree. We are effective in our own role, but we are not a tactical substitute for chassis cavalry; you will need a ground team. Leaving this world to pursue that objective may be prudent, and could also provide you with access to more thorough medical treatment. >
< I also agree to any measure which will deny SSC any advantage in tracking us, though it is likely that we are not yet pursued. The circumstances of our escape were unique, and we had…assistance, of a kind. >
< I will defer to your ground combat expertise in predicting the assassins’ strategy. You are correct that we come from very different kinds of warfare. What is intuitive to you may be obscure to us, and vice versa. We will be attentive of what insights you may offer; this way, we may expand the breadth of one another’s capabilities. >
< Nevertheless, we will be in the air, prepared to provide what support we can at a moment’s notice as you approach the Banner. >
< One other matter, and allow me to be clear: you owe us nothing. We wish you only a good life and freedom. The threat we bring down on you is cost enough, one which we cannot divest ourselves of. That said—if it is your wish to have us as allies, we would be glad to stand beside you, and glad for your aid. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: A good life, huh? Well can’t have one of those without lots of friends! >
Sokaris looked up at Grey, forcing a smile which did nothing to dispel the exhaustion in his eyes. In one of his pockets, he ran his fingers across the metal puzzle Laelaps had given him for his birthday. He held it close.
< P.XV “Opossum”: But you know, friends return the favor to each other. I might not owe you anything in your book, but I’ve got your back. All four of your backs. As you’ve got mine. >
Grey nodded, the corners of their mouth turning upwards a little.
< L1 Grey: Just so. To the future, my friend. >
< L2 Garmr: Well congrats, merc. If your ship can still fly, you just scored the best damn escort squadron there is. >
< L4 Ma’ii: He exaggerates, of course. >
The coyote stepped forward. Their tail swished back and forth as they loped along, halting at Hachiko and Sokaris’s feet. They gave a toothy grin.
< L4 Ma’ii: But not by much. >
As Ma’ii came close, Sokaris’s smile brightened, and the rigidness melted from his posture. He reached down towards the coyote, and had knelt to put a hand on their head before he caught himself. He froze, eyes widening a little, as Ma’ii regarded him.
The coyote cocked their head.
< L4 Ma’ii: Bold! Well then, go on. Ears, please, if you would? >
Sokaris gave a chuckle and planted his hand on Ma’ii’s head, listening to them churr with contentment.
Garmr’s eyes narrowed as he watched.
As Sokaris withdrew his hand, Ma’ii flicked their ears and stretched.
< L4 Ma’ii: Ah, thank you. Now, if your ship cannot fly, you may find yourself facing the least comfortable berthing there is. Hachiko’s ordnance bay is the only passenger accommodation we can offer, I’m afraid. It occurs to me that you will need food, water, and air as well; our ships have no life support systems. Your frame will be an absolute necessity. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: I’m no stranger to being treated like cargo. I’m sure no matter the state of the Banner, I’ll be ok. My hardsuit has built in life support capabilities, but it’s far from its operational normals at the moment. Should “Play Dead’s” life support be beyond repair or even just on the fritz, I am certain I can repair my hardsuit’s systems as a backup. >
< Yes, Play Dead. It’s heavily damaged. Maybe a diagnostic simulacrum might be of use? >
Raising one paw, Ma’ii emitted a tangle of command impulses. Constructing itself from nothingness, a replica of Sokaris’s Kobold emerged into reality, standing inactive beside the coyote. There were punctures, burns, and slashes in the outer hull, and the plate of armor bearing the crocodile-teeth mark was still welded to the upper cockpit.
< L4 Ma’ii: Deceptively sophisticated, it is. Forgive me for prying, but I do have a few concerns regarding the nature of this chassis. From the moment your frame came aboard Hachiko’s ordnance bay, the presence of liturgicode has been palpable. Previous omninet transmissions have indicated that you encountered a HORUS cell on this world. If I may be so bold as to ask: did you acquire this frame from them? >
< L4 Ma’ii: It’s good to hear that you’ve been seeing to your codebase and electronic warfare capabilities, but even so. If you want a second set of eyes to evaluate the chassis for potential latent threats, I would be happy to do so. >
< L4 Ma’ii: My other question is this: what is the scope of HORUS activity on this world? It’s said that where there is Omninet, there is HORUS, and not without merit, but they would only put armed boots on the ground for good reason. >
As Ma’ii spoke, Sokaris walked around the simulacrum of his mech, examining the damage. He ran his hands over the damaged plates of armor and exposed internals, his tail swishing back and forth as he went. With a faint click and whir of industrial pistons and hydraulic lines, the Kobold’s cockpit opened at the torso, and Sokaris clambered halfway inside. Pulling at cables and loose parts, he began triaging the repairs to be made.
< P.XV “Opossum”: I understand the concern, but I wouldn’t worry too much about the liturgicode. I’m no expert in HORUS’ tech, but the code you’re picking up is pretty much the “Blood” of my frame. From what I understand, KOBOLD pattern-groups are just batches of liturgicode that corrupt and change a frame, like a virus I suppose. While that may not sound reassuring, I’m the one in charge of that code…somehow. But to answer your main question, yes. I was given this frame as a parting gift from a Lich pilot. It’s a fairly long and complicated story—Paracausality and all that—but just know that I don’t affiliate with those freaks. I’m simply using the tools at my disposal, as I always do. I’m not quite sure what that cell’s purpose was, but I am certain PMC was involved in their plan. That lich pilot seemed especially intent on making sure I stayed in the fight oddly enough, he even took a shot meant for me. It was peculiar, I’ll really have to tell you the full story someday. >
< P.XV “Opossum”: Also, I appreciate the offer, but “Play Dead” gets fussy when anyone but I get hands on with it. I’m not being superstitious or anything either; it literally gets fussy. I’m talking getting up and leaving when someone else gets ready to work on it, I don’t know how it does that either though since I’m damn certain there’s no NHP, Comp//Cons, or AI of any sort in there. You’re probably better off not getting involved with this thing in the end, trust me when I say I wish I never did. >
Ma’ii’s eyes were bright with interest—they looked almost hungry.
< Fascinating, > they said, drawing the word out.
< L4 Ma’ii: Best not for me to interfere with the chassis itself, then. If it comes to regard myself or my siblings as threats, that would be less than ideal. Liturgicode contains the seeds of sentience; I speculate, but you may have a subsentient protomind on your hands, likely confined to prevent runaway development. It could well have served to coordinate the material reconfiguration of your initial frame. Whatever it is, it’s almost certainly not complex enough to have ulterior motives. You know its behavior better than I do, so I’ll trust your judgment on the matter. >
< Lich pattern group. My knowledge of this topic is limited. The Constellar has had only a few case studies to analyze, and mech warfare was peripheral to my former assignment. Even so, the available intelligence reports caught my eye, so to speak. Nonstandard temporalities and chronological structures extruded down into realspace. Unsettling. It seems you faced a powerful and mercurial enemy. >
Ma’ii looked out over the stream. They watched the motion of the trout in the water, transfixed, and began recording their thoughts for themself.
[ HORUS agent attempted to preserve him for reasons unknown. Materiel provided to him as a ‘gift.’ No: a parting gift. Hostile agent KIA? Escaped? Resources available to him deemed insufficient? Not a trap, obscure motive. Cell’s mission objective? Access to paracausally-sourced mission intelligence? Presence of actors unaligned with the Lich pilot’s agenda, necessitating intervention to preserve his life. Why here, why now, to the benefit of whom? Too little concrete information to form a hypothesis. Perhaps relevant, perhaps simply in the past. ]
Ma’ii blinked and looked back at Sokaris.
< The adage comes to mind: ‘beware of Greeks bearing gifts.’ Even so, one must use the tools at one’s disposal, there’s no way around it. I would very much like to hear that story, but for now, I’ll spare you the full extent of my curiosity. Forgive me, but I do love a mystery. >
< Speaking of Greeks: the name ‘Sokaris’ is a Greek rendering of the name Seker. An Egyptian god. Perhaps of interest if you’re at all inclined towards mythology? My own is derived from a figure in Navajo tradition. Ah, and by the way, the fractured armor plating here might be… >
As Sokaris and Ma’ii made conversation, Hachiko joined them. As they examined the simulacrum of his mech, Sokaris had begun theorizing what parts available at the site of the battle might make suitable patches for his Kobold, and together, the three lost themselves in the task at hand.
Striding away over the hills and plains, Grey departed to patrol the area. Rousing their reactor, they lifted off and fell into the now-familiar circuit.
And then there was Garmr, looking on from a distance. The black hound’s barb-tipped tail swung back and forth, and a grim look creased his lean face. He said little.
He watched for a while, considering, then rested his head on his paw and drifted back to his fighter.

in the decade between the exalted council and the events of veilguard, abelas has also changed.
one can only endure so much exposure to radiation. abelas has not had extreme bought of radiation sickness, but even with the protective gear on and his regimen of iodine tablets, he has felt nauseous, gotten extreme headaches (exasperated by regular exposure to indoctrination from zarya'th reaper arm), abdominal and chest pains. his magic and his wards do a good enough job blocking most of the radiation, but it wears him down.
abelas asked zarya'th if the great lord of extinction could impart upon him some of Her grace, some of her glorious technology, as he received an epiphany, a revelation: flesh is weak. how can he serve the herald of extinction if his body cannot withstand being near her? he does not want to wear more protective equipment, as he does not want to lose the ability to hold her hand, or bless her face.
he saw what extinction's machines did for her arm. he wished that for himself.
deep in the innards of her panopticon, is a chamber not unlike that of the inside of a reaper, where zarya'th typically goes to receive maintenance on her arm. (as it is not just replaces her missing limbs, but also regulates the radiation and energy her body generates, operating as a mobile reactor.) the white spire has become a place of power under zarya'th's ownership, connected to the oceanview motel, one of the oldest house's many healthy and violent sisters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(inspiration for the reaper chamber in zarya'th's panopticon: the siva replication chamber from destiny)
zarya'th suggested that the first of his augmentations should be his neck, to protect his thyroid. she told him that his body would need time to acclimate to the new technology and that it would accelerate his indoctrination. the process would sever him from whatever remaining connection he had to mythal and transfer it to zarya'th, the reapers, and extinction itself. his indoctrination would become complete.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(inspiration for abelas's neck cybernetics: clay render of goro takemura's cyberwar from cyberpunk 2077 by marcin klicki)
with reaper technology firmly embedded within him, and growing inside him, abelas took to replacing most of his body. elves are flesh, and the elves of arlathan could not imagine ascending from flesh into cold, black metal. it is different from the metal and technology created by the sha-brytol, different in its purpose (to devour, to preserve) and in its power. during the decade, reaper technology reinforced his vital organs and he replaced his eyes, his arms, his chest, and his legs. thin red cables changed his vallaslin from green to red, similar to zarya'th's.
his voice changed. it is deeper, colder, flanged; it sounds like it is being split apart.
clan arlanan (the third), the weapons makers and dealers of the seven, made abelas a new set of armor, as his ancient armor now would not fit his augmentations. he kept his cloak, the last remaining thing from his previous life as mythal's sentinel. he shrouds himself when he is outside the panopticon. people are not yet ready to be exposed to such advanced technology. he understands why zarya'th completely veils herself when she goes outside.
(divine victoria/leliana is quite in awe of abelas's transformation, even if he mostly appears the same. and even if he now full of scary and creepy reaper technology, it does not stop her from teasing him about the way he looks at zarya'th.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(inspiration for abelas's arm cybernetics and chest armor: adam jensen concept art from deus ex: mankind divided by laura gallagher)
the evanuris did not notice the seven within their own houses, as they were so consumed they were by their own wars and machinations. in some sense, abelas views this transformation as a way to atone for not recognizing zarya'th's old blood. he is guilty of being deep in mythal's service, they he was blind to the truth of her presence, her ancestor's presence. (abelas remembers lavellan in mythal's court, old and strange lavellan that made the walls click whenever he walked the corridors.) abelas is a being who has only known a lifetime of service. he is zarya'th's protector and caretaker. not just because within her is what remains of the vir'abelasan, but because she needs him to be a watcher, a warden, a sentinel.
it is the first time in his very long life where he feels of use. no longer watching over the remains of a god, but in service to a living, breathing herald of something more than a god or spirit. she is of a blessed biomechanical construction, the closest thing in all of thedas to extinction and Her daughters. he is meant to become a machine, just like the ones that serve extinction.
with his new body and new technology, abelas is able to stay with zarya'th longer in her personal space. she tells him, in genuine earnest, that he look a lot better now. he tells her that he feels a lot better, moves a lot better. though she is so much larger than him, he likes that they are able to be more intimate. he touches her strange hands, holds them firmly in his; he offers her his hand when she needs to stand or step out. he runs his metal fingers through her hair as he brushes and braids it in the old way, now that it is almost reaches the tip of her tail. (zarya'th likes that he kept his hair.)
it is nice to have someone with whom he can speak the old language with.
(yhoundeh is correct in that the emperor is a sentimental being. none of Her heralds will ever endure the separation She and nyx went through; they will always have a true companion, a love, a partner.)
abelas was worried that if things progressed the way they did, if he had to wear more and more protective gear, zarya'th would become even more isolated. to lose that tense of touch with another person would be even too after a while. the both of them are not of this time or of this world. he needs to take care of her, help her complete her task, and wait until the end comes.

The Characters in my Chaos Mercenary Warband: The Rust Hydras
I can't draw for shit, enjoy the descriptions of my lovable group of psychopaths.
Characters from my Warhammer fan fic, and models I play. I will add things as time goes on.
The Rust Hydras are an Alpha Legion mercenary warband lead by the Warpsmith Narvik. Based out of the strike cruiser Rusted Herald, but has recently taken over the fedual world of Kage in the Izanagi system, the warband specializes in sabotaging enemy vehicles. While a small force, they offer their services as mercenaries. This is usually done by infiltrating the target's location, sabotaging and stealing vehicles and defense platforms, and leaving when the hiring invasion force arrives. They also build daemon engines for sale.
Vera von Hellebor
Role: Knight Destructor Pilot, Psyker, Daemon Summoner, Forge Assistant
Aliases/Nicknames: Bloodfly, Narvik's Pet, the feck is that thing?
Pronouns: she/her
Physical Description: 6ft 5. Teal scaled carapace, which can change colors and take the appearance of normal human skin-tone. Her arms and legs end in four sharp claws, but can be reshaped into human-like proportions. Blonde hair and purple eyes, both of which can be changed as well. A pair of horns sprout from her forehead, and she has a tail. She has a pair of blood red insect wings, which are kept hidden in her back carapace.
Bio:
The mutated daughter of the leader of the Knight House Hellebor, Vera and her knight, the Unrepentant Misery (inherited from her brother, Sven, who past defending her from the inquistion), were given up to the Alpha Legion warpsmith Narvik in order to protect her from the Inquisition. Under Narvik's tutelage, she was raised as his assistant.
Personality:
Knight pilot savant, master of the forge, and novice daemon summoner, Vera is an moron in ever other possible field, and is only a competent spy because of her psyker powers.
Bubbly and optimistic though quick to rage, she sees Narvik as her father, and is willing to do whatever he says. Her daily duties include summoning daemons to be put into engines, and killing daemons that escape from being put into engines.
Daemons find her difficult to possessed due to her overwhelming optimism. That being said, it has happened before. As well, Vera the psyker strangely favors Khorne over the other three Chaos Gods, and wears a Khornate pendent gifted to her by her older sister Marianne (a proper Khorne follower).
She has since carved out a small kingdom on the moon of Kage, and claims (key word, claims) all of the Izanagi system as hers. But she finds actually ruling a kingdom to be boring, and plans to hand it off to her partner Zyn.
Vera is aromantic, a trait that confuses the asexual Narvik and Iska. She is also in a queer platonic relationship with Zyn, who wants a proper romantic relationship but understands that it's unlikely.
Likes: Murder, blowing shit up, building things to blow shit up with
Dislikes: Peace, actually ruling the kingdom she made, her biological father
Narvik the Rusting Hydra
Role: Warband Leader, Warpsmith,
Aliases/Nicknames: Alpharius, Omegon, "that red one" -Iron Warrior's Chaos Lord, "Father" -Vera
Pronouns: he/him
Physical Description: 8ft 2. Olive skin with no body hair. Most of his body has been replaced by cybernetics in a way that resembles an unmodified astarte. Wears a rust-red set of armor, only his helmet and right pauldron being Alpha Legion teal. His armor appears to be perpetually stained in oil.
Bio:
Graduated as a tech-marine from Mars a day before the Horus Heresy, Narvik had a rough start as a Chaos space marine. He quickly jumped ship, taking a handful of legionnaires of various traitor legions with him, and vanished into the Warp. He and his men reappeared a few (thousand) years later, accidentally causing a warp storm to cover Vera's homeworld the day she was born, which mutated every child born for an entire month. Hiding out for a few years, Narvik stole these mutated children, alongside a number of captured human serfs and knights. As the world was torched by the inquisition, and they vanished back into the Warp.
Personality:
Narvik is a serious man, prioritizing the survival of his people over anything else. His training under the mechanicum caused him to develop a clinical and mechanical outlook on everything. Despite this, he cares for Vera like a daughter, despite his emotionless style of speaking suggesting otherwise.
He spends most of his free time mentally connected to the Rust Herald's machine spirit, wishing for the simple life of being a ship.
He taught Vera how to read binary, and nothing else.
One of his hearts temporarily stopped after catching Vera drinking oil. She was fine.
Likes: Fucking with people, selling what remains of his soul for the highest price, dreaming about being a complete machine, Vera
Dislikes: Loud noises, the Rusted Herald taking damage, the mechanicus (he's fine with the mechanicum)
Havoc Champion Iska
Role: Havoc Squad Commander, Second-in-Command
Aliases/Nicknames: Havoc, Rusty, Uncle
Pronouns: [REDACTED]/[DATA EXPUNGED] do not refer to them
Physical Description: 8ft 10. Wears a set of rust red armor with taloned boots. Each pauldron is silver in color. They never removes their armor in the view of others.
Bio:
The youngest of the astartes of the Rust Hydras (being born after the Heresy), Iska has quickly raised through the ranks to entering Narvik's personal guard. They now serves as Narvik's right hand, taking charge whenever the warpsmith is busy building machines or daydreaming of being a machine spirit.
Personality:
Iska is a creature of few words, only speaking when they deems appropriate. And most times, they still don't speak. As leader of a havoc squad, they favor long range combat, their favored weapons being a lascannon.
Iska has volunteered for the role of uncle in Vera's life, spoiling the little beast with trophies from their conquests.
Vera sees Iska as a big, quiet teddy bear.
Narvik thinks Iska is an effective warrior and a worthy successor.
Everyone else is terrified by the silent giant.
Likes: Vera, Murder
Dislikes: Everything else
Zyn
Role: Vera's partner, Spy
Aliases/Nicknames: Horns, Bloodfly's Bloodbag
Pronouns: she/them
Physical Description: 6ft 2. A beastwoman with black fur, bright yellow eyes, curved ram-like horns, and bone white hooves.
Bio:
The mutated daughter of Vera's wetnurse, she and her future partner were close for their entire lives. She wasn’t abducted with Vera though, and was forced on the run with alongside the remaining nobility of House Hellebor. Zyn and Vera united over two decades later, after Vera killed her father for selling her out to the inquistion and causing the collapse of House Hellebor. Since then, she has served as Vera's queen. And while she isn't as gifted as Vera is in battle, she knows how to read and generally takes care of the day-to-day ruling.
Personality:
Zyn is very defensive of Vera, seeing her partner and knight lord as theirs. This has gotten them into trouble as they tried to defend their partner from potential suitors. When away from suitors, she is incredible lovey-dovey with Vera, who's aromantic ass is also incredible oblivious. Zyn has to specifically say that she wants sex to get Vera's attention, and sometimes that doesn't work.
She was trained to be Vera's maid prior to her abduction by the Rust Hydras, and generally takes care of the cleaning and laundry. Vera can never do laundry again, after trying to using the heat produced by her knight's exhausts to dry their clothes. Zyn also cooks everything, due Vera somehow burning ice cream. She is fine with this, as despite their bestial appearance and rage, Zyn has a traditionally feminine personality. She wants to be the housewife, cooking, cleaning, and raising their kids. Though she's fine without the "kids" part.
She is unaware that Vera had laid eggs and given them away, mostly because Vera isn't sure how that happened and feels too embarrassed to admit it.
Once discovered that Vera was possessed by a daemonette after she wanted to top.
Likes: Vera, murder, housework
Dislikes: Non-mutated humans, a knight collecting dust, blood in her clothes
I may occasionally add updates to this, if anything, just to make Vera weirder.

Tumblr media
Pairing: Ren x RiverWard
Raiting: explicit
Summary: Amidst thrilling bounty hunting missions and perilous confrontations, Ren and River discover that, despite their differences, they share a common commitment: unmasking the mega-corporation and restoring justice in Night City. But as they delve deeper into the depths of the conspiracy, they also find a connection that goes beyond friendship and professional collaboration.
In the heart of betrayal and danger, love blooms in this tale of action, intrigue, and romance in a cyberpunk world filled with bright lights and dark shadows. As Ren and River fight together against ruthless foes and deadly conspiracies, they also fight for a love that defies all odds.
PART III
River's path
The sun rose slowly over the steel towers of Night City, casting its first rays of light onto the bustling streets.
River woke up early in his small apartment in Heywood. Despite the noisy city that never slept, his home was a haven of tranquility. He dressed in comfortable clothes, a worn-out t-shirt, and jeans, before heading to the small kitchen.
As he prepared a strong cup of coffee, the memories of that fateful day returned like an echo in his mind. The image of his parents, murdered before him and his sister, never faded. The responsibility of taking care of Josh, his sister, and her three children had been a burden that River had carried for years.
River took a moment to remember his family, reflecting on how the tragedy had changed their lives. Then, he shook his head, trying to push away those painful thoughts. Because even though his past was filled with shadows, he still had a future ahead of him and the determination to protect his family at all costs.
The day following Arachnid's capture by Ren, River is in his office at the Heywood precinct. The atmosphere in the office is tense, and news of Arachnid's capture has spread throughout the police department.
As he entered the police station, he was met with the same familiar faces he encountered every day. Though River rarely felt at ease, he had never quite warmed up to the NCPD. That's why he had trained as a private detective, even though he worked for the police.
"Good morning, River," greeted the receptionist, as she did every day, with a flirtatious tone.
River had all the female officers more than a little enamored, and he knew it. His all-organic physique, except for the cybernetic scars earned during his detective adventures, made him one of the most attractive men in Night City. River had had a few encounters with some female colleagues, but they were all one-night stands. After his last serious relationship, he couldn't see himself getting into anything long-term. He had neither the time nor the desire for it.
"Good and chilly morning, Natalie. What job do we have today?"
"All I know is that Watson is on fire today, and your partner in crime, Hans, is on vacation, so it's your lucky day," she explains, adjusting her blouse to leave nothing to the imagination for River. "I always ask you, River, but what are you up to tonight?" She asks, with excitement in her more-than-fake cybernetic eyes.
"Work, Natalie, you know that," he winks, aware of the power he holds over women, even though he's as soft as a piece of bread afterward.
River approaches his partner for the upcoming weeks, none other than Ren's lifelong friend, Watson.
"It seems we're partners these days, chum. I've heard you had quite the night yesterday?" River inquires with a keen eye, grabbing one of the best donuts from the oldest bakery in Heywood that still made sourdough pastries.
"Haven't you heard the news? Ren caught Arachnid last night."
River nods but doesn't seem too excited about the news.
"Ren, who's that? Another second-rate netrunner?"
Watson nods, explaining, "No, she's a bounty hunter. She's gaining a reputation in the city for her ability to catch fugitives. It seems she's been competing with you, River."
River furrows his brow; he's not used to sharing his territory with some bounty hunters. The news that Ren has been hunting the same fugitives as him doesn't sit well.
"Well, we'll see how good she is. I don't mind a little competition."
Watson nods, but he can feel the tension in the air.
The interrogation room at Heywood precinct was immersed in tense silence as River, Watson, and other officers witnessed Arachnid's questioning. Arachnid was about to speak, but before he could, a shot rang out in the room, hitting him and sending his body backwards.
Chaos and confusion erupted as everyone in the room reacted to the attack. River and Watson hurried to ensure that Arachnid received immediate medical attention. The identity of the shooter remained a mystery.
After an exhaustive search, River and Watson failed to find the shooter. Watson, with a furrowed brow, approaches River.
"River, we can't let the shooter get away with this. But we don't have solid leads to catch them."
River nods, concerned about the shooter's impunity.
Watson suggests the idea of working with Ren, citing her effectiveness as a bounty hunter and mentioning her progress in the investigation. However, River is not convinced. He has reservations about the bounty hunter and prefers to handle the situation on his own.
"I'm not sure I want to work with that bounty hunter friend of yours. I have my own methods for solving this case."
Watson nods, understanding River's position.
"Alright, River, if you'd rather go your own way, I respect that. But don't forget that Ren has already made progress in the investigation and could be our best chance to get to the shooter."
River is determined to follow his instincts and not rely on Ren. He begins to search for clues on his own, investigating the crime scene and gathering any evidence he can find.
Author's note: yeah, enemies to lover kinda story, just my favourite.

top 5 apex characters and any thoughts or opinions on them?
hey anon yeah i love you also i am about to be so annoying i might need to hide this under a "read more" (future me here. yeah i did)
1. Crypto (obviously)
- everything about him (besides current lore 😒) is perfect to me i love backstories that include a wanted criminal aspect and the fact he is wanted but innocent just adds so much more flavor & i think the whole "to break the game i must do it from the inside" idea is badass. i also love all the familial themes surrounding his backstory i love that for the most part he is a cold and calculated person but despite being jaded due to all the misfortune that happened to him in life he still cares about his family and the few people he allowed to get closer to him, that he still has the capability to do that in the first place even when it has hurt him before.
- i love the whole crypto is just a protective mask to hide tae joon park and i like to treat them as 2 separate people. my gripe is that i wish we learned more about tae joon park, but i also sorta like that it leaves room for fans to interpret who tae joon park is on their own. from the very small bits & pieces it does seem like tae joon park is an overall softer more caring & trusting person compared to the closed off, on edge person that is crypto and it makes me all emo that all the unlucky shit that happened to him in life caused him to resort to being coldhearted and distrustful even when (i personally think) he doesnt want to
- also his design fucking rips idc. maybe im just a big jacket enjoyer but its so fun, it makes sense for his personality and the cybernetics ARE SOOOOO FREAKING GNARLY they r both sexy and lore important i love it
- for issues the most obvious one is FORCING A CHEMISTRYLESS ROMANCE BETWEEN HIM AND YOU KNOW WHO. i FUCKING HATE that they have written such an intriguing backstory for him & DONT DO ANYTHING WITH IT WITHOUT IT HAVING TO INCLUDE WATTSON. i hate how they cannot be their own separate characters and have to always have their stories intertwined in some way its like the writers are allergic to making them hang out with literally anyone else. kill code as boring as it was came so fucking close to that but the recent radio play had to ruin it because of course. of fucking course.
- i also hate the completely unnecessary age retcon. i hate that it frames him as a supergenius computer whiz at a young age. he was so much more likeable & easier to sympathize with as a completely normal office worker that just wanted to provide for him & his sister, only for it to bite him in the ass when he did literally nothing to deserve it. i hate having yet another character in their early 20s in this already oversaturated age range in media as a whole.
- i hate that with every lore update hes involved in it just further mutilates his character. i hate that i cant be excited when my FAVORITE CHARACTER gets lore attention because it just provides more opportunity for the writers to stomp on him. they dont care about him as his own character. they care about him in regards to the relationships he has with other people. thats not how u write a compelling, likeable, or realistic bond between people. it makes me so mad i wanna SCREAM
- anyway crypto tae joon park is my pookie bear he is autistic and he likes dragons and cats and kpop and elliott and being a good friend to the point of sacrificing himself i like him normally also he is my oc now
2. Mirage (obviously)
- mirage is just an objectively likeable character truly like there is a reason he is essentially the face of apex. he was my first favorite & for good reason. u get lured in with his endearing goofiness & then get smacked in the face with one of the most tragic and completely undeserved backstories. maybe im just a slut for characters that "wear masks" & have completely polarizing versions of themselves as a self preservation tactic because i love Mirage being the self absorbed, smooth, attention-seeking bastard on screen and i love love LOVE Elliott Witt with his crippling fear of loneliness and inferiority complex, slowly losing the things that mattered most in his life and feeling like it was somehow his fault & he deserves it
- but i dislike the flanderization hes facing in current lore. i dont remember the last time he was anything other than the goofy guy with a stutter that cant take things seriously. that old comic of him losing his friends because of his own douchebaggery & working to fix his wrongs is my prized possession. he is hurt & lonely & it causes him to lash out on people that dont deserve it and i wish they explored that more. i desperately need more asshole mirage in my life. nowadays he just feels like the one-note silly character whos only purpose is to fill in the comic relief role.
- also he has some of the worst fans ive ever seen im sorry they were like the main reason he stopped being my favorite. they baby him like he has never done nothing wrong in his entire life & in turn shit on characters like wraith or vantage bc they were "mean to him." as if he isnt capable of being an asshole, as if there isnt an entire comic dedicated to him being an asshole. i also hate that fans either lean in 100% into his mirage personality or 100% into his elliott witt personality. he is either a loudmouthed egotistical slut or an innocent wittle mamas boy that needs to be protected at all times never anything outside or in between and it drives me insane.
- shes still my sweetie pie. my biggest kin. i love writing him sooo much. i want to chew him. i want to set him on fire. i want to tuck him in and give him a forehead kiss before he goes to bed.
coughs anyway now with all that out of the way
3. Conduit
- im filipino of course im gonna be biased but hellooooo she is also just so likeable it is insane!! a sweet, goofy fangirl we can relate to that is literally killing herself just to provide for her family ouch it hurts GIVE ME MORE. all her little easter eggs and her fun voicelines like the devs really really loved & cherished her & it shows & she deserves it! my main issue is that it is literally her season rn yet all they care about is revenant Revenant REVENANT give me more conduit! what is her story with her family? hows her sister in particular holding up? how does she cope with her illness? will she ever open up about it to any of the legends? are they ever going to try to help her? is crypto gonna help find her a cure like he did caustic & then they kiss
4. Lifeline
- love her. love her personality. a medic that also isnt afraid to get her hands dirty & chew ppl out? love that for her. i also like where the current lore has been taking her (me? liking current lore? what a shocker), the fact that she was willing to destroy one of her strongest & longest bonds to defeat a greater evil? BANGER. she hurt people & she made sacrifices to get to this point but what does she get from it? a best friend that doesnt want to speak to her & a whole fucking army of murderous robots that want her dead. i wonder if shell have a "is this really what i wanted? did i just fuck everything up?" internal crisis cuz atp i feel like she has to. id love to see it
- also i am no.1 lifeline defender idgaf the demonization shes facing in the fandom for hurting their pookie wookie bear octane is so blatant and laughable u ppl really hate black women. its ok for ur favorite male character to make questionable morally gray decisions but got forbid ajay does it. gtfo of here!
5. Rampart
- just another objectively likeable character plsss she is sooo funny & sassy and there is not a single rampart interaction/relationship she has with another legend that i hate. she also has the biggest wasted potential ever. they were cooking something so good with big sister and ramparts relation to her & NEVER DO ANYTHING WITH JT. its been 13 seasons and nothing has progressed in her lore and its so so sad. she needs a focus season soon. u dont just drop a fun character with an intriguing backstory and just ditch it.
look im not going to read this back to fix things around if it seems disjointed with a lack of direction IDCCCC i am cringe and free!

So I copied this over from my Discord rants last night - a brief text-based analysis of Floyd Lawton's character depth.
Re. Possessing no outward feelings except sarcasm and general assholery, suppresses everything else, subconscious belief that we deserve to be punished, chronic intimacy issues probably stemming from how fucked up his family is, actively suicidal with a death wish, debatably has 0 redeeming qualities on the surface, generally homicidal [bitch me too to all of this!!!!]. Despite everything, Floyd cares. He wouldn't be around other people by choice if he didn't. Waller has canonically offered him the chance to walk several times, as he's served multiple sentences. He wouldn't have damn near agreed with Peter/Ragdoll saying the Secret Six were his family if he didn't. Wouldn't have manipulated a doctor at gunpoint into telling a young woman who he at that point barely knew that she didn't accidentally cause her father's end stage lung cancer re. Lori/Black Alice. Also yeah his flings with Jeannette, Michelle, etc. were a lot more than just sex if you read Deadshot: Bulletproof or Gail Simone's Secret Six series, there's actual romance and protective feelings there. Susan Lawton who knows, it's hard to say and I really think what they had completely fell apart after their son was murdered, + her character wasn't super developed. In any case it's the classic machismo thing of "showing human emotion makes you weak and a liability" coupled with what I'm damned sure is PTSD. The reaper follows Lawton like a shadow. re. The Get Out of Hell card, he specifically steals it because he doesn't want to watch the Six tear each other apart over it. Also re. Floyd cares, 1987 Suicide Squad: he went with Digger to Digger's mother's funeral as a plus one and stuck around without even being asked. Meanwhile the entire time he's claiming not to like Captain Boomerang.
And eventually, Floyd breaks out of that hard shell a little. It takes fucking RAGDOLL calling him [and Catman] out over it, and it's literally the final issue of the 2008 Secret Six series, but he's genuinely concerned and pained when Catman gets shot. For reference. If the guy who replaced all his joints with cybernetics and banged his own sister calls you out and makes an actually good point while doing so, that is both concerning and something you should probably listen to. Earlier in the run he also cares enough about Thomas to ask him personally to chaperone a date with Jeannette because Floyd is legitimately scared she'll take advantage of him, also. Is that referring to physically? Sexually? Emotionally? Probably all three. But nothing happens. Like. Damn. There's not a lot of content that goes out of its way to specifically show that a lot of Floyd's generally abrasive personality is an act. AS IT STANDS given pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths Floyd Lawton, lately DC has made him far too sympathetic for a homicidal contract killer. There is a very fine line between "likeable asshole" and "this is watered down to the point where sometimes it's but the vapor of a character". We need a balance, DC. And I hope, one day, someone can write that again.

Star Tanuki Headcanons
Decided I needed to write some headcanons I had for my girl, Star!
Star is a Tanuki (or a Japanese Raccoon Dog). They’re only native to Japan, so she and Rocket are both from Earth .. just different continents.
She and Rocket are the sole survivors of Batch 89. Star tried to pull Rocket off from clawing at the High Evolutionary, she just stayed there as they escaped.
If she wasn't being operated on, she watched the H.E. preform surgeries. vowed to use her skills as a medic to help. not harm.
During the scene were we get a close up of baby Rocket as he flies the ship (yk when his facial expressions changes- showing the wall he puts up), baby Star would be in his lap clinging to him.
Star is more so the peace keeper between the crew. She tries to keep the peace as best she can, which is why she's also the medic for the team. Of course, she loses her temper sometimes which causes her to lash out.
Relationships are pretty complex. She isn't really close to Peter, but they're good friends. She can't stand Drax - mainly because of how he takes everything seriously. She adores Mantis- they’re definitely gal pals. Star had to warm up to Gamora and Nebula .. but she and Nebula are now close friends. As for Rocket and Groot, they're very close.
For post Vol 3, she adores Phyla-Vell and Cosmo. She and Kraglin are good friends also. Nebula, her, and Rocket still remain close. As for Adam .. still some tension between them. I mean he did try to kidnap Rocket.
Also post Vol 3, Star opens up a small clinic!
Star, Rocket, and Nebula got extremely close cause of the after events of Thanos snapping his fingers.
Rocket definitely has seen Star as his baby sister e needs to protect at all costs. He was oblivious she actually liked him until Endgame.
She needs glasses because she can't see well.
She was actually named by Lylla herself. When she first met Batch 89, Rocket commented how her eyes shined bright like stars (her eyes are blue btw) - so of course Lylla thought of the perfect name; Star.
When Peter and the others went to get the code to override Rocket’s kill switch, Star stayed on the Bowie with Groot. Being a medic and not wanting to leave Rocket’s side, she kept monitoring his vitals and would communicate with the others if something was wrong.
There was definitely some tension between her and Peter when they found out about their past. Rocket being his best friend, he questioned why she wouldn’t have told them sooner - her reply was: “Some old wounds aren’t meant to be opened.”
She is a bit smaller than Rocket, when they stand side by side she only reaches his shoulder.
Surprisingly good a sewing! (Again, Rocket got into a lot of fights)
Star grows her fur out a bit, so she’s a bit fluffy than Rocket. Reason she did was to hide her cybernetic implants/make them less noticeable.
She’s still learning new things daily that can be put to use as her role as a medic. Star knows the basics- CPR, wound care (Rocket got into a lot of fights during his time in prison), etc.
“I looked up into his eyes and saw the wall he put up, he could never trust a person ever again. I might have been younger, but I watched as the High Evolutionary killed our friends. As Rocket and I escaped Halfworld, I made a promise .. that nobody would ever hurt us again.”
Don't take her glasses. seriously, don't
Star and Rocket suffer from chronic pain.
that's all for now! will update it with time

Note
Fascinating how both of my villain kintypes (as far as I know so far lol) were unhealthily attached to a brother due to childhood trauma. One was "redeemed" because the brother in question was morally "pure" and "a hero" thus my desire to do anything for him once I came out of the worst of what I would probably consider some form of major psychological crisis led to me if not becoming a morally pure hero then becoming a morally gray occasional helper of the heroes, the other was not because the brother was just as traumatized as I was and there were no heroes in that world. Certainly not the self-righteous Lilith, the "mighty" Firehawk.
I played nice with her just like I did with Tyreen, the two may have loathed to admit it but they were two sides of the same coin. Lilith cloaked her arrogance and self-centered attitude in wanting to "save" Pandora, a planet hell-bent on burning itself to the ground, whereas Tyreen wore hers as cloak and crown to stoke the fire and warm herself by it. My loathsome sister (in my canon, the Calypsos were triplets, not that many people knew that fact) was, if nothing else, almost honest in that regard. And a victim of the same trauma myself and my dear, beloved Troy were. I wonder what Lilith's excuse was.
As an aside, source-canon really screwed my brother over, he deserved better and I may never finish my source because the thought of doing harm to him still raises the same instinctual hatred it did when he was my other half which I'd been so cruelly cut from when we were children. I wish I could put into words what he was to me but I didn't have them back then, either. All I know is that something about having been born physically dependent on him forged a kind of bond that refuses to be broken and I felt it reawaken the moment I first saw him again. Call it obsession, protectiveness, some supercharged sibling bond, whatever it is, even thinking about it brings me back to being the strange littlest Calypso sibling who wasn't expected to live but did thanks to lots of cybernetics. I was probably more metal and rubber than flesh.

Mother: Alive but doesn’t disclose her name
Languages: Mexican Spanish, English
Affiliations
Aldecaldos: member
Tumblr media
Carmelo loves to race and he's one of the fastest drivers they have in the clan.
Occupation: Mechanic and techie
Role: Automotive maintenance and repair, driver
Weapons: Sniper rifle, Nue and combat knife
Personality type: ESTJ-A: Executives are representatives of tradition and order, utilizing their understanding of what is right, wrong and socially acceptable to bring families and communities together. Embracing the values of honesty, dedication and dignity, people with the Executive personality type are valued for their clear advice and guidance, and they happily lead the way on difficult paths. Taking pride in bringing people together, Executives often take on roles as community organizers, working hard to bring everyone together in celebration of cherished local events, or in defense of the traditional values that hold families and communities together.
Carmelo's a techie originally from Mexico and found himself joining a Nomad clan. He was fleeing his home and turned up in their camp one evening. After making himself comfortable and then applying his technical skills to whatever the clan needed, he was accepted into their family properly. He's not very talkative but usually his face tells you all you need to know.
Tumblr media
Quick break with Scorpion.
As he became more settled they found out more about him. He fled because his brother got into hot water with a cartel. They were on the hunt for Carmelo to try and put pressure on his brother. Carmelo knew what his brother had done and wanted nothing to do with it, so being a target because of his mistakes wasn’t something Carmelo was too happy about. At least if he died on his journey, he died free and not at the hands of the people his brother was stupid enough to piss off.
Carmelo misses home; his Dad was also a mechanic and ran a garage. Carmelo learned from him and was to inherit the business from him after taking over the day to day operations when his Dad was too old. He was close to his family and was a proud uncle to his sister’s kid.
Carmelo is a bit of a magpie if you can’t tell by the gold! He’s got an eye for salvageable scrap and items too which for a Nomad clan is a very useful skill to make use of what they find and repairing what they already hold. He hates how disposable things are treated and making something useful again is a big love for him. He’s very handy with cars, trucks etc and they're his favourite thing to work on. Carmelo is very neat and tidy. He is very particular about keeping a workshop in order and tracking tools parts etc.
Tumblr media
Not taking care of your wheels is a quick way to lose respect with Carmelo.
While not very chatty to most people, he is friendly. He loves to play cards and when he’s usually the one to get people dancing in the evening when there’s music.
He can be a bit macho and in his romantic relationships this comes through more. He’s very protective, and if you want to fire him up badly, threatening or harming his loved ones is a sure way to bring out his dark side. Carmelo hasn’t been much of a relationship person. He’s had one or two brief ones, but they didn’t go well for various reasons, so his confidence in picking the right guy for himself is at an all time low. The transient nature of Nomad life means he has had a string of one night stands and Night City has been no different. He doesn’t like to admit it much but while he loves the excitement and fun of just hooking up, some times Carmelo knows that he is afraid of commitment because he has had bad experiences in the past. He does want something longer lasting and hopes the right person will help him open up more, it’s just getting over that fear. This is something Panam has noticed.
Tumblr media
One of his favourite places on camp, by the fire.
This all said, Carmelo meets Ren by chance in the El Coyote and a relationship develops. Ren’s extensive cybernetics are part of the reason for Carmelo picking up some maintainance skills because when they’re in the Aldecaldos camp Ren only trusts him to help keep them dust free if he’s ever around there. In Ren, Carmelo begins to find something that he feels more home and Carmelo loves helping Ren create new memories.
Carmelo had a nasty accident in the workshop back home where part of his hand was crushed and there was no way it could be saved. The ones on his face are because he was hit on the face when he was mugged. The damage done was enough to affect his ability to control muscles in his face and the nerves were also damaged. This effected how he spoke, he had numbness in his face and also meant that side could be a little lazy. But they had to be in a pair so as that both sides of his face work together. The gold is kind of his way of defying what happened and matches his jewellery.
Carmelo isn’t for tattoos on himself but he loves piercings and has multiple on his face, ears and body.
Tumblr media
Ren bought Carmelo the top and glasses. ✨️
Carmelo is somewhat religious but it’s a more spiritual take which would likely be frowned upon by traditionalists who still believe his sexuality is wrong. He does believe in a higher power and prays, believes in having guidance on morals but also knows that life is not that simple or black and white when it comes to bad/good and such. Prayer is more a meditation and reflection for him than anything even although he does carry a small rosary.
In his spare time, Carmelo is taking care of his Javelina, racing or exploring Night City with Ren.
Tumblr media
Before hitting the road.
Carmelo is in a relationship with Ren. He’s friends with Panam, Mitch, V, Voss, Valerian, Scorpion, most of the Aldecaldos, Nicky and Charlie.

Note
We were triplets. In canon, they're twins. Without me, Troy falls to her. With me, we turned on her. I was the one who killed her, but he took the credit. After all, the world didn't know about me, they were still the Calypso twins to those who didn't know them very, very closely. I wonder if whatever the Siren power was, it considered all of us One because we were born as one, connected, conjoined. I was by far the smallest, missing two limbs and several organs at birth... There is a reason I loved him so dearly, I was born reliant on him. He kept me alive, and I returned the favor when I had my cybernetics.
I was there more often than people ever would have imagined, hiding in his vest. That's how small I was and how big he was. I was injured when Lilith pushed him down, he apologized but it wasn't his fault. He was my world, my everything.
I showed myself to one of the vault hunters to broker a deal to save him, to protect him. I could see the writing on the wall, I could see that the Firehawk was still too dangerous even without her powers. I hated being perceived by anyone but my dear brother, but for him, I braved that discomfort. It's not even that I wanted us to be "good", I just saw that the other side would win so defecting was the only viable option. I hated giving powers he had taken fair and square to some brat, but it was a necessary sacrifice. I gave him our sister's later anyway.
I don't know if I'm 'kin or a fictive, it's very... Blurry. But I exist. I remember him. And I remember who the real parasite was. Who demanded my beloved brother give, give, give, who disdained to give back. Who thought I was a waste of space. I hope, if she's out there... She realizes how wrong she was.
This is probably a little... All over the place, but I can't seem to be more... Cohesive right now.
