So I copied this over from my Discord rants last night - a brief text-based analysis of Floyd Lawton's character depth.
Re. Possessing no outward feelings except sarcasm and general assholery, suppresses everything else, subconscious belief that we deserve to be punished, chronic intimacy issues probably stemming from how fucked up his family is, actively suicidal with a death wish, debatably has 0 redeeming qualities on the surface, generally homicidal [bitch me too to all of this!!!!]. Despite everything, Floyd cares. He wouldn't be around other people by choice if he didn't. Waller has canonically offered him the chance to walk several times, as he's served multiple sentences. He wouldn't have damn near agreed with Peter/Ragdoll saying the Secret Six were his family if he didn't. Wouldn't have manipulated a doctor at gunpoint into telling a young woman who he at that point barely knew that she didn't accidentally cause her father's end stage lung cancer re. Lori/Black Alice. Also yeah his flings with Jeannette, Michelle, etc. were a lot more than just sex if you read Deadshot: Bulletproof or Gail Simone's Secret Six series, there's actual romance and protective feelings there. Susan Lawton who knows, it's hard to say and I really think what they had completely fell apart after their son was murdered, + her character wasn't super developed. In any case it's the classic machismo thing of "showing human emotion makes you weak and a liability" coupled with what I'm damned sure is PTSD. The reaper follows Lawton like a shadow. re. The Get Out of Hell card, he specifically steals it because he doesn't want to watch the Six tear each other apart over it. Also re. Floyd cares, 1987 Suicide Squad: he went with Digger to Digger's mother's funeral as a plus one and stuck around without even being asked. Meanwhile the entire time he's claiming not to like Captain Boomerang.
And eventually, Floyd breaks out of that hard shell a little. It takes fucking RAGDOLL calling him [and Catman] out over it, and it's literally the final issue of the 2008 Secret Six series, but he's genuinely concerned and pained when Catman gets shot. For reference. If the guy who replaced all his joints with cybernetics and banged his own sister calls you out and makes an actually good point while doing so, that is both concerning and something you should probably listen to. Earlier in the run he also cares enough about Thomas to ask him personally to chaperone a date with Jeannette because Floyd is legitimately scared she'll take advantage of him, also. Is that referring to physically? Sexually? Emotionally? Probably all three. But nothing happens. Like. Damn. There's not a lot of content that goes out of its way to specifically show that a lot of Floyd's generally abrasive personality is an act. AS IT STANDS given pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths Floyd Lawton, lately DC has made him far too sympathetic for a homicidal contract killer. There is a very fine line between "likeable asshole" and "this is watered down to the point where sometimes it's but the vapor of a character". We need a balance, DC. And I hope, one day, someone can write that again.

Integrate The Shadow
The Shadow Psyche
What if i told you, that there is a side of yourself that fosters evil and macabre within your soul. Well, swiss psychologist Carl Jung claims that there is, he calls this side of the psyche, the shadow. His concept or “map” of the psyche is similar yet different from his mentor, Sigmund Freud. He believes that there is consciousness, personal unconscious, and collective unconscious. In consciousness there lies the persona and the ego. In the personal unconscious are the archetypes, and in the collective unconscious lye the self, the mana personality, soul image, and today's topic, the shadow. In many ways the shadow may be similar to Freud's, “ID” concept. To find out more on these other topics you can find information on sources such as, www.verywellmind.com/what-is-the-collective-unconscious, www.thesap.org.uk/articles-on-jungian-psychology, and books such as “Jung's Map of The Soul”.
Now, in this segment we will focus mainly on the concepts of the shadow self, and the process of individuation used to recognize and overcome your toxic shadow.
What Is This Shadow?
The shadow is a complex and one of the deepest parts of the self, or psyche. It can be categorized as the side of yourself that you hide from yourself, its the force behind your behaviors that you disagree with, your insecurities, your repressed memories or emotions. The shadow provides shelter to all which you banish, or to what you may believe you have overcome. The shadow creeps up whenever you may wrongly judge people, project, or allowing unconscious urges and drives to take over.
The Evils in The Urges
You may have heard plenty of people justify unacceptable behavior by saying “It’s a natural urge” or “Everyone does it”. This is an obvious sign of the shadow coming out to gain control over the person as much as possible. You see, urges, impulses, and instincts all originate in the unconscious, so if you succumb to these impulses you are allowing them to take control over your life, striping you from any freewill you may have had otherwise.
Some perfect example of what most people would play off as “natural urges”, or “animal instincts”, would be some toxic behaviors such as, overeating, staying up late, and worstly, even brutal aggression.
Individuation
In reality, the subconscious drives most all action and movement, so if you allow the unconscious to control the subconscious, you will not have any conscious control over your own life and outcomes. In order to gain any sort of control it is crucial to learn to program these subconscious drives. But in order to do this you must accept all the thoughts and emotions you may be blocking out and may even be unaware they exist. You must accept them when they come but do not allow them to overcome you, instead you resist and know your morals.
This not seem like a difficult process. But it is, and a long one at that. But well worth the effort to achieve individuation. You may be asking “What is individuation?”. Well, in the words of Jung: “It is about the realization of the Self.” It is to integrate the conscious with the personal and collective unconscious to become a more whole and well rounded person, with more self awareness and understanding, resulting in a more unique, individual, self.
Achieving individuation
You may be left wondering, how it is possible for one to achieve such levels of self understanding and unity. This process requires immense commitment and courage, so if you are cowardly i would not recommend this process. But, for those with the courage to continue, the steps go as follows; firstly one must recognize the shadow, encounter the soul image, meet the mana, and finally see the ‘self’
Shake Hands With The Shadow
Now, this process does not involve eliminating the force of the shadow, we know that would be quite impossible, for as we learned through physics, energy cannot be created or destroyed but it can be manipulated and changed. So, in this same way, the energy going towards negativity cannot be destroyed but we can control that negative energy and foster it to spread more positivity in our lives. The rose cannot suddenly cease to exist, but it can be striped of its thorns with meticulous attention and resilience.
Some common shadow behaviors to be aware of are harsh judgment, unwanted impulsive behavior, quick temper, projection, victimizing oneself, throwing others under the bus for personal gain, unknown biases and prejudices, and having a superiority complex.
Though an important disclaimer to address, is the risk aligned with this process is potentially becoming overcome by it, due to weak will and low self control. One must be prepared to battle with the unknown and you may prosper.
“And the longer thou gaze into said abyss, you may begin to see the light shine through.”
Dr.Jordan Peterson
An Encounter With The Soul Image
The Mana Personalities
Think about the wisest person you know. Likely an older fella. What would he say to you? Why is he so wise? What if i told you that the wisest person in your life, may just be you. Only that you may have suppressed that part of yourself out of self awareness of your own ignorance, and you may even project your wisdom onto other and call them wise. Of course there is nothing wrong with recognizing the wisdom and intelligence of others, but it is crucial that we also recognize our own. The word “Mana” originates from the Melanesian people, meaning “divineness”. In this context of Jungian psychology, It is a part of the psyche that holds a strong presence of wisdom and power. To gain greater insight on this concept one can relate this to a force that contributes to your intuition. Although it is noteworthy that the risks aligned with allowing it to take over, instead one must always stay in control. For example, usually when people allow this mana to take over, many people begin to form a messiah complex or consider
themselves gurus or superior. It feeds the ego and inflates without limit. Nevertheless, it is not all bad when cultivated properly. This mana is the core of the internal wisdom we all hold. You see, we all hold some wisdom internally. Of course, there is tons of knowledge and wisdom we are taught by life, people, or books. But, what can explain the fact that we can learn more about the world and make better choices purely by listening to our intuition and rationalization. This part holds great power that is very important to cultivate. So, it would make sense to not give that power to others or to suppress it, but instead to keep it for yourself in responsible moderation. Many of the evils in the world we have learned about, are people who allow this Mana and rarely the “self” to consume them and inflate there ego endlessly.

Billy Pseudotsuga Character Sheet
"What is it that within your mind you seek?"
Name: Billy Pseudotsuga
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown (but more than 400 years)
Species: Fae
Birthday: June 15th (Gemini)
Height: 180 cm
Eye Color: Yellow
Hair Color: Somewhere in the magenta. Think gills of a pink axolotl
Homeland: Pine Hills (same island as Briar Valley)
Family: Cyfrin Pseudotsuga (twin brother)
Dorm: Octavinelle (was in Diasomnia for his first year)
School Year: Junior (Class C)
Club: Film Studies
Best Subject: Magical Analysis/Enigmics
Favorite Food: Canned meat
Least Favorite Food: Brightly-colored cupcakes
Dislike: Being locked in
Hobby: Playing piano
Talents: Psychoanalysis
A cunning fae often twisting words and minds to get what he wants... or so it would seem. Fairly good at seeming convincing at a glance, and has a tendency to voice your thoughts before you can even get a word in. Secretly insecure about his abilities, and has no idea what to do with his life. However, he can be reliable and brutally honest when needed.
Twisted from Bill Cipher, with a side of Grunkle Stan and Dipper Pines.
Trivia:
Is way better at flight than he makes it look during class
Rook's nickname: Monsieur Providence
Only wears his eyepatch in his Dorm Uniform
Wears a lace shirt in his School Uniform
Floyd's nickname: Axolotl
Nicknames people using their coffin symbols, or their 10 cards titles.
Unique Magic: Mindscape Haunting
"The muse comes, inspiration strikes. Now in the dream, let's seal the deal."
Allow Billy to enter the mind of whoever he thinks of. For that, he either needs to place a marker on that person (which he usually does via a handshake), or to enter via the dream world.
Billy himself is unmoving and acts unconscious during it, same as his target.
________
FINALLY, I'm starting to get these guys in! Billy's twin brother should come tomorrow if everything goes well.
I affectionately nickname them as "Twills", portemanteau of twins and Bill, being both based on that lovely triangle demon in one way or another. Also it's shorter than "Pseudotsuga twins".
Now, for Billy himself: I'll admit, he can be hard to pin down due to how much he changed since I first created him. To the point when I struggled with the first quote.
"Billy" means "Will helmet" or "Protector", surprisingly ironic considering what his UM does. "Pseudotsuga" refers to the Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), or Oregon pine, an invasive species of pine tree that isn't in the Pinus genus.
There's a long-standing inside joke in the RP I'm playing him in that he adopts freshmen on a semi-regular basis.

Pink Freud T-Shirt
Merge the worlds of classic rock and psychology with the Pink Freud Shirt. This shirt is a playful twist on the iconic Pink Floyd album cover, bringing a touch of humor and irreverence to the world of psychology. The design features a clever play on words and imagery that merges the legendary rock band with the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud.
Made from soft and high-quality fabric, this shirt is not just a piece of clothing; it's a conversation starter. Whether you're a fan of Pink Floyd, psychology, or simply enjoy a good laugh, the Pink Freud The Dark Side Of Your Mom Shirt is a unique addition to your wardrobe that showcases your eclectic taste and wit.

I have a teacher who is a huge Pink Floyd fan so when he was talking about psychoanalysis and the unconscious he used the Arnold Layne music video to make an example about the human mind, he also showed us the High Hopes music video and he was so euphoric talking about Pink Floyd that I felt happy for him, I wish I could share words and talk about them with him but I'm kinda shy to have long conversations with my uni teachers yet.

I'm at that point in the classic rock fandom where none of their charm, wit or dashing good looks work on me anymore.

Okay so um, this is a WIP of my Yuusona. I’m not sure how I feel about sharing my art online yet so please be nice lmao. (Also pls excuse my messy handwriting thankiess)
Information on the sketch!
Comet “Yuu” Yuusonya
She/Her pronouns / 16 years old
5’1 (155 cm) / about 100 lbs
Birthday: July 18
Dominant hand: right
Homeland: Unknown
Grade: Freshman
Class: Class A
Club: Gargoyle Study Club
Best subject: Astrology
Favorite food: Ice cream
Least fav food: Bacon
Talent: Psychoanalysis
Comet is a shy individual. She has really bad social anxiety and upon first arriving at NRC (much like canon Yuu, being transported from another dimension), she pretended to be a boy to blend in with the rest of the students. She’s skilled in cosplay and makeup, so it was a relatively easy task for her. She went by Kuiper (pronounced like Cooper) because it’s a space related name, much like her actual name. She’s asexual, heteroromantic, and considering the possibility of her being polyamorous.
Comet loves space and has studied constellations for years now, and she’d love to talk to someone about them. Her whole aesthetic is a mix of cottagecore and space academia. On top of cosplay and astrology, Comet loves art (including drawing, writing, theatre (she’s a little too shy for the stage though), dance, singing, fashion, all sorts of stuff—she especially loves writing poetry!), architecture, and caring for other people. Consider her a very *very* shy mom friend. She also loves animals.
Comet’s got major trust issues. And she’s Terrified of Men. And she doesn’t like it when people touch her unprompted in any way, shape, or form. So anyway things are going grEAT FOR HER /s
There’s a lot that goes into Comet, but that’s just some basics I suppose. I’ll make lots of posts about her lol.
Now for some important relationships! Since she came from another world and has no damn clue where she is or how to get home, she had to start completely over from scratch upon reaching Twisted Wonderland.
Crowley — she resents him because to her, it seems like he isn’t even trying to find her a way home, and he hasn’t done basically anything to help her. Ramshackle is falling apart on her and he isn’t doing anything! She sleeps in fear of the ceiling collapsing in on her.
Ace & Deuce — her first friends. If you can even call them that, that is… she tolerates their chaos/j. They’re kind of the only people she feels comfortable around, if that. She’s kind of scared of their chaos though.
Trey — they both enjoy baking. It’s like one of Comet’s Favorite Things To Do Ever so when she found out that not only was Trey an older brother, but a baker too? She tried her best to subtly tell him she wanted to be friends without actually having to tell him.
Floyd — Tbh one day Floyd just picked her up and took her home and she hasn’t been able to shake him since. (Except not literally because she would not hesitate to kick a tall and intimidating man who tried to touch her without asking first.) Anyway she realized pretty quick that she couldn’t get rid of Floyd and just accepted his presence. They’re best friends now.
Jade — Met Jade because of Floyd. She thinks he’s alright. She thinks he’s pretty too but she’d never say that. Okay maybe both the Leechs are pretty. Shhhh. Anyway she admires Jade’s passion for the things he likes and enjoys his presence.
Idia — they played Minecraft together once (barely talking) and now she’s decided that they’re friends as a result
Malleus — she never understood why people thought he was so intimidating. Since she’s in his club, she’s spoken to him several times. Yeah he’s tall and kind of scary-looking, but he seems nice so she considers him a friend.
Sebek — bro she hates Sebek, like she’d never say it but she finds him so annoying. Like please stop sir she’s just trying to ask Malleus what his favorite flavor of ice cream is… what do you mean he hasn’t had ice cream before??
Grim — she was so annoyed by him at first and wanted nothing to do with him, but once she got stuck with him in Ramshackle, she was quick to adopt him as her cat and now she takes care of him like she’s his mother.
So yeah! There’s an introduction to Comet! The tag “CometYuusonya” will be used to keep track of all info or shitposts I make regarding her!! Tysm for reading ^^

Quote
[Floyd Dell] saw what he wanted to see. And then he saw some things he really preferred not to see. According to an “unpublished interview” Dell granted to Norman Britten…Dell was uncomfortable with Millay’s “preoccupation with lesbianism.” When he asked her to address the “problem” through psychoanalysis, she refused, saying she disliked Freud.

Reflecting on Contextual Studies Lectures
The fifth lecture is Psychoanalysis. This is a system of psychological theory and therapy which supposedly treats mental disorders. This is done by exploring interaction with the conscious and unconscious mind and includes techniques such as dream interpretation and free association. A good example that was shown to us was the ID, the ego and the superego. The ID would say ‘eat all of the chocolate’, the Ego would say ‘just have a small piece of chocolate’ and your Superego would say ‘you’re meant to be on a diet’. Freud believed that infant’s psychological development is linked to five psychosexual stages, these are: the oral phase, the anal phase, the phallic phase, the latent phase and the genital phase. I found these lectures very interesting and was good to earn about psychoanalysis through other people’s beliefs.
The sixth lecture is Global Discourse, and this covered topics such as culture, race and displacement. With recent events this is a topic that many people are aware of at the minute, such as the Black Lives Matter movement and George Floyd’s murder. This is an important part of history that I think will always be remembered, mainly because so many people’s eyes were opened to a part of life that they have either never experienced or been aware of. Racism is still a big problem and happens everywhere, even in the UK and as tragic as these recent events have been they have raised awareness and made a lot of people realise how big of a problem it still is.
