- all three of the brothers would be very impressed with your records and awards. you are a decorated member, and the fact you are decently younger compared to your coworkers impresses them further

- Tomas asks you questions. lots of them. where you've been, what you've seen, the kills you have (it surprises you he knows the difference in the terms), he even asks others about you

- Bi Han wants to inspect every piece of modern equipment you have. he asks incredibly well-informed questions about the weapons, he even sketches ones that pique his interest the most so he can show his clan back at home

- Kuai Liang is the lucky brother who gets to hold and try the equipment. you and your team watch over him in the gun range as he shoots down practice targets with ease (ninja precision is crazy)

- Tomas and Soap might get along the best. he'd definitely be thrown off by how vulgar the team gets, but he and Soap are very friendly with one another

- Bi Han, Ghost, and Price. those two would be having a blast together talking about manly adult leadership stuff

- Kuai Liang might get along best with Gaz. Something about these level-headed men having a normal conversation in front of neanderthals is refreshing to you, snd you really appreciate that

- teamwork wise, not including the 141, they'd work pretty good with you. you're a great all around: sniper, foot-soldier, hand-to-hand, you know the drills for the shit they go through on the daily

- specifically, you and Kuai Liang would work together with a knowing silence. something like Price and Ghost since those two knew each other for so long. something about you and Kuai covering each other's asses without saying a word means you guys are in perfect sync. i can imagine it (can't you?)

- working with Bi Han is like Price and Soap, or Ghost and Soap. You definitely would try and liven up the mood as you off enemies left and right. Bi Han might actually scold you mid battle, too, expecially talking about distractions

- Tomas is Gaz, and working with him is like nothing but butter sliding smoothly on bread. Tomas is everything in a package: smart, skilled, quick-witted, and level-headed. Tomas knows when it's the right time to do things

- i think you and Bi Han would get into the worst spats and fights when discussing how to further push into battle. i'd say it gets physical, with you ordering him to stand down as the "professionals handle this"

- Kuai Liang and you could also get into some hefty drama and fights too. i think Kuai would actually apologize too, considering that maybe you might have seen more than him

- outside of the missions, everyone gets along well (maybe). when the three lin kuei bros are out drinking with you and your team, that shit is fire. Tomas probably gets drunk first, but that's after maybe five cups of hard ass liquor

- Kuai is next drunk, then Bi Han

- back to mission stuff, when you and the Lin Kuei trio aren't fighting, you guys agree on strategy rather easily. in fact, they like how you pull your strats. Bi Han takes mental notes to implement to the clan

- yeah, that's it

Facts, Anon. Absolute facts. Kalim always behaves like this is the best moment of his life and it’s all about how awesome it is for him to be with Idia and to do what they are doing right now!!! How does one even react to that?..

But also I’m not sure if Kalim knows how to do aftercare... He is very used to just falling asleep afterwards and then suddenly waking up after a nap to continue the cuddles. Idia would suffer either way because he would try to carefully run away while Kalim is asleep… instantly waking him up and prompting him to start cuddling him with the widest smile possible!

Ohh, interesting; honestly, it kind of sounds like an anxiety that Ortho could have. Similarly to how he usually treats Idia being in a relationship with someone: he is very happy, excited and supportive, but also very jealous because he actually really doesn’t want to share Idia with anyone.

In a way, I think he could make peace with Idia being with someone by thinking that what they have with Idia is special and totally different from what Idia and his boyfriend have. So if Idia’s boyfriend suddenly passes away, and Idia grief pushes him to shut away the world and focus on recreating that person, Ortho would feel horrible on many levels: both because of Idia pushing him away and because of Idia doing for that person something that was supposed to be special and their thing. And even though Ortho would recognise that Idia is hurting, and it’s probably selfish of him to be so against it, he might even try to act supportive, like “isn’t it cool, there will be the second one like me”, but he would probably hate that thing. I don’t know, I feel like it would end badly lol

Oof, I wonder if he would be better or much worse than Idia… I feel like Idia tortures himself for the most part (mentally), but with Ortho, even though he would still torture himself because of guilt, could also be more of a danger to others. At least because he is less secluded and more sociable in general.

Hmmm.

Ortho was younger than Idia when the incident happened + he isn’t as insanely skilled as him, so I don’t think he would be able to build a robot and write an AI as fast as Idia (even for Idia it took a couple of years), but he would still try to do it. I think it would be his work-in-progress at the age of 16; he would just have a bunch of junk on his floor + an android torso with a silicon face that doesn’t move, because it’s not done yet. Ortho would still talk to it a lot.

I think Ortho would combat his grief and guilt by thinking that it’s up to him to honour Idia’s legacy, and he’ll talk about it a lot: about how he tries his best to be a good technomagician and a mechanic, and he would indeed be the best at his dorm, but not quite as good as Idia would’ve been in Ortho’s head.

Ortho would almost look like a normal guy, somewhat similar to Ace in the way he acts at times, but there would always be something uncanny about him because he is never 100% genuine and his heart is clearly closed from others. He would be the type to say “what? I’m friends with everyone” but have zero people whom he actually trusts. He prefers to talk to his half-built robot-brother more anyways.

Now, what I mean when I say that he is more likely to be dangerous is that while Idia is in terrible shape and his coping mechanisms aren’t the best, Ortho would bottle up his emotions more, as if he can’t allow himself to grieve properly because it is his fault. It would become very clear that he is still not over it once something triggers him and he becomes super resentful towards everyone and everything that isn’t Idia, or rather an idea of Idia in his head that gets more vague with every single day because he gets older, and he hates himself for “losing” him that way too. I think Ortho could express this frustration by being destructive because he would be in a very bad mental space…

My idea is that Azul is surrounded by a faceless mob and he is forced to sign contract after contract. None of them are for his benefit, though, they are basically trading away any and all of his skills and talents while the crowd laughs at him. After a few times, the contracts start ripping away body parts that correspond to his talents (I.e. singing would be his vocal cords, swimming would be his tentacles/legs, etc.) until there’s barely anything left of him. Whatever is left is then served up as delicious takoyaki.

It takes a lot to set me off, but after reading a comment from the OP of this YouTube video I was watching, that just did it for me. The OP really had the nerve to say that they deliberately cut out the clips with Elena because they wanted to "focus on the Transformers". Yet, they failed to also cut out the clips of Vivian from TLK, the clips of Noah or the clips of other human characters from TLK. Mmmkay. 😒 Sure, buddy. My top 5 Bleach women and why I love them: Part 1

(Some of this based on what makes them awesome, or how they're written. Also, this is Part 1 of the entire post, so it'll only show the first 3 characters, due to Tumblr's limit on how many links/media I can use.)

5/5. Ikumi Unagiya \~ Owner of Unagiya Shop

Why?

It’s an unique choice since she doesn’t get that much screen time compared to the others but I really think she’s got a fun personalty and somewhat of a good adult character in a shonen manga that doesn’t have many adults that’ll be there for the MC on an emotional level.

In the Fullbringer arc, she’s one of the only adults in Ichigo’s life who tries to be there for him even with her unawareness of shinigami and hollows. Ikumi still reminds him that he is a kid and he should be able to rely on her, and I think it’s really profound that she says this but Ichigo hasn’t ever really believed in that for most of his life.

Another underrated moment is her getting Ginjo to stop subtly upsetting Ichigo and made him leave her shop. Ginjo wasn’t even a villain at this point but Ikumi still knew the questions he was saying about Ichigo’s dad and his family were screwing with Ichigo’s mind. Maybe I’m giving her too much credit for being a reliable adult for a shonen manga, however it still puts her in my list.

Even in the TYBW arc, she’s still there to be a form of stability to Ichigo who goes through hell before visiting her. Her personality between a dependable, intuitive adult and a stubborn woman who kidnaps teenage employees in broad daylight is what stands out to me as a character.

4/5. Tier Harribel \~ Tres Espada

Why?

Her whole look with the jacket and the hollow mask is honestly pretty cool to see in the series and her serious, calm personality is nice to see among the Espada. Plus her motif as the ‘Espada of Sacrifice’ adds a whole new layer of her concern for her Fraccion, like Nel who was the former 3rd. Her sword release is also dope, “Tiburon”.

In the Arcancar arc, she only gets one main fight (which she got done dirty on) and then gets betrayed by Aizen, but at least I have to appreciate the moments throughout the arc that build her character.

Again, it’s really rare here to see an Arcancar care about their own considering the whole process of Hollows devouring each other from Menos Grande - Adgjunchas - Vasto Lordes. Plus, having the balls to go up to Head-Captain Yamamoto and say you’ll avenge your subordinates is pretty insane.

The series could have used her more outside of the Arcancar arc but in TYBW arc, she was the ruler of Hueco Mundo and saved Nel & friends from Yhwach. However, they forgot about her for the rest of the TYBW arc which I’m hoping the anime will fix, maybe adding a scene. In the timeskip, she’s adjusted to the role of it all and looks OP af, I personally love this look on her.

Appearance-wise, it’s obvious how stunning how she is honestly.

I used to think “Harribel” was her first name but Tier is actually her first name.

3/5. Unohana Retsu \~ Squad 4 Captain and First Kenpachi

Why?

Almost every Bleach fan loves Unohana but besides the obvious mommy vibe she gives, I really appreciate the dual traits she's had. I really love how she’s a healing captain whose committed to the Gotei 13, and how it’s revealed later that she was one of the original Gotei 13 and the First Kenpachi. The way she holds herself from the beginning of her debut to her death, she always been caring to those she healed and worked with but held a intimidating demeanor around her.

Battle is everything - Bleach Vol. 59

Kubo’s character design is something that took me a while to realize there’s certain symbolism in it. Unohana’s mainstream design is much more meaningful when you find out the core of her character and how she started. The braid she puts her hair in resembles chains that Unohana put on herself to hide away her past of immense bloodlust as the First Kenpachi like the scar on her chest.

At the core of her character, fighting is everything to her considering the environment she’s grown in. The Soul Society and Yamamoto has harnessed her strength and killing prowess for the sake of protecting their interests. One of the themes of Bleach is the “The Heart” where many characters and groups have revolved around the belief of what the heart means to them. Unohana’s role in TYBW shows how her heart is centered around fighting and how her sin is the foundation of her persona as the kindhearted, healing Captain of Squad 4.

I always heard criticism about how Unohana got centered around Kenpachi and got killed for Kenpachi’s development, but I point to the overall themes of the story and how shinigami like Unohana who had to fight harshly to survive in the Rukon district. They often centered or associated themselves around another person who brings a feeling, emotion or sensation within them, that drives them to do actions in a story.

Learning healing kido to extend a fight for who knows how long is a pretty unique concept for the whole medical character trope. It’s so riveting to me that even through healing others, Unohana was helping the other shinigami live on for another fight which is something Kenpachi advocated to Ikkaku, besides doing her job. In her final battle, she was doing that not for Kenpachi but for the sake of the Soul Society’s survival. Thus, her heart and purpose might be with Kenpachi now, but she found meaning outside of her original role for centuries, and briefly enjoyed peace from being a fighter of bloodlust until the Wandenreich arrived.

So I was looking through your art tag just to vibe cuz your work is fab and I came across the awesome Sabo Cauterizing His Own Wounds piece post Reverie and ended up thinking about how it's a common theme in One Piece that scars will hurt when the one who caused them is fucking around or getting up to no good.

And now all I can see in my minds eye is Sabo clutching at the scar on his stomach and clinging to the wall or the back of a chair because he had to treat the injury himself so it probably healed weird first of all, and second the five elders and Im are definitely up to no good.

Sabo knowing that one of them is nearby because he can feel it in the scar tissue that tears through his insides.

Also cuz I'm soft, imagine Sabo clutching his stomach over the scar mid hanging out with Ace so Ace gets to comfort him and hold him and I get to roll around squealing cuz they are so tender.

Well, a top 3 show of summer 2023 comes to a close and what a ride it’s been. This show simply put, just hit different and had an air of mysticism and fantasy to it that you don’t see a lot these days.

I think the combination of the somewhat modern setting and the magical elements along with the amazing cast were the big reasons. Also the fact it was adapted from a proper novel where writing tends to be more mature. I’m gonna miss Aya and Tsugaru jokes on Wednesdays 😭

Onto the episode itself, had a little of everything that makes this series so good. The shorter runtime concerned me a little at first, but the decision to open with the OP theme during a sakuga display was really cool. Carmilla and Shizuku in particular was awesome.

There’s so much unsaid sexual tension between the two of them that comes through in every scene. They paid off the fact that Shizuku wasn’t wearing underwear in a pretty funny way too. Carmilla lucky af for getting that view lmao.

And the culprit finally revealed! Wow what a twist, again, the author has such a good way of subverting expectations. I would’ve never imagined it was Jute masquerading as Nora. It makes sense now how Nora reacted when Shizuku suggested it could be an inside job. Alma, the doctor, etc., all misdirections. Aya’s walkthrough of the case put everything into perspective and is a riveting tale of deception. Masterclass from Jute really.

Her hatred of both villages is understandable I can’t lie. Her mother got screwed over by her own people and then the humans didn’t even want them. Even Louise supported her in her quest for revenge. She would’ve gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those meddling kids 😂

I love how creative the final fight between Tsugaru and Nora was. Using that unique sketch style animation in the dark was cool. I don’t mind them letting her off because she was a victim tbh. Movement Project Week 3 - Animation 01 - Trust the Process...

So like I wrote before, I expected to begin Week 3 actually participating in a Workshop and I feel the need here to preemptively defend myself a bit and mention that I did in fact show up on Monday morning. I even emailed Mary Conroy who suggested I join the workshop on Week 4 instead, so I'm hiding behind that excuse for the moment.

Anyway with all the workshops halfway through their two week block structure, I realised I could now only attend a maximum of two workshops for this project or in other words, I'd missed the boat on one entirely. And even though I love animation, it was also the easiest to do at home by myself and thus received the boot.

So now I just have to produce some animated work at home by myself to the standard of quality expected from a hands on workshop with expert tutors... walk in the park... :(

I guess the first thing to do is refer back to my mind map and explain my thought process here. I think by now as I write this at the end of Week 4, I've come to understand "The Spiral" as my central theme, but the dumber version of me who existed a week ago somehow beat around that bush without ever landing on that keyword. I was seriously drawing spiral staircases while still unable put words to my thesis. Anyway...

My train of thought basically went from "Kinetic/Parabolic/Geometric" to "Rotation" to "Spiral Staircase". This later led me to wider influence of the "Op Art" (or optical illusion art) world.

Actually looking back on I'm slightly abridging the timeline here, after all this was whopping week-ish ago. The staircase idea likely took seed in my head after seeing the above gif online by indie animator @PunchUsagi on Twitter. The quality of their work speaks for itself obviously, but it was less the stellar character acting that captured me and more the (seemingly) simple* five frame background animation loop of a camera tracking down a spiral staircase. You can even see how clearly my sketch above borrowed from this animation.

*definitely, absolutely, factually, 1000% NOT easy...

Trying to replicate PunchUsagi's work led to a couple of complications. First, I tried so many times to imitate this looping staircase effect but short of tracing I just couldn't get it right. Second, even though I know I've seen this kind of effect in animation before (Yu Yu Hakusho) I can't for the life of me track down any good reference material. Short of having some kind of Dewey Decimal ass brain for animated staircase scenes, there's really no good way to search this kind of thing.

So having (temporarily, at least) shelved that after a series of attempts, I moved on to similar but slightly less challenging prospect; animating a revolving staircase, except from a static, head-on view. I thought this would be a good exercise to stretch my 3D muscles in Blender as I'd never attempted to make anything like that before. I had a rock solid plan though, it was called "The Array Modifier"

So naturally I made a cylinder as the column of the stairs and a step whose height was an even divisor of the cylinders length to ensure an proper fit. At time I had no idea how engineers and architects measured the amount of steps need to encircle the circumference of the central column, and as you might accurately infer from that sentiment, was in over my head as a certified stair expert...

A column and a step, all I need now is my trusty, handy-dandy, 100% absolutely failproof companion; the array modifier...

So I realised that the array modifier is great for making straight, linear, decidedly not-curving stairs. Of course this clashed greatly with my idea of a y'know, spiral staircase. It was back to the drawing board...

But not for long! As this slightly outdated video showcased a method where you create an empty Plain Axes object at the centre-point of the cylinder and use that as the offset for the array modifier. I don't know why it wouldn't work using the cylinder as the offset value but I'm going to assume it has something to do with God challenging me.

So with that figured out we were home free...

Basically this was a result of me not understanding the engineering or architectural design behind spiral staircases, as I alluded to earlier. In fact I've actually been recreating all the screenshots for this post cause I'm stupid and never document anything, and I actually couldn't even replicate this mistake at first. That's correct I am unable to succeed at failure...

Anyway the problem was that I failed to align the steps to the centremost point of the cylinder, which is necessary for it to coil properly. The other mistake I made while less important structurally was equally displeasing aesthetically. If you want the steps to perfectly encircle the circumference of the cylinder, you have to actually plan ahead and do the math to ensure that outcome. This particular math has already left my head (to make room for all my clever thoughts, no doubt) but this video by a real guy with actual qualifications sums it up better than I could:

And finally we're on to the end result. I am now a master 3D staircase maker, capable of bending geometry to my will... I can also make little animations like this cool turnaround!

Tumblr looks to be fucking up that video so I'll re-render it and try again tomorrow but for today I honestly can't be arsed.

Looking back I've probably spent too much time covering the "How?" and not enough covering the "Why?". I'll rectify that in a later post and get more into what I want to accomplish using spirals in animation, but for now you can probably gauge my overall mental energy level from the second half of the above paragraph's lone sentence. For now, me tired, me sleep.

Don't even try to mess around, she would ABSOLUTELY have the Hana Hana fruit! I think she would eat it by accident of course. She'd have to come to terms with her new abilities, traveling the seas. (Also Sam would just have purple hair in the OP universe. Like, naturally.)

Would Sam like reading One Piece? And if so which is her favorite character?

I don't think Samantha would see herself as a shonen manga-liker, but if she were to give a good one a try, she'd be captivated. Sam wouldn't dig into any themes or deeper meanings, but she'd like One Piece for the comedy and the parts that make you cry/get you hyped.

I think Max would be the biggest fan... He'd be SUPER hardcore about consuming media lol, like fans who fight over which popular series is the best. But he'd also be super critical whenever there are gross/poorly-written/etc. moments.

If you watched anime with Max and Sam it would be SO not fun. Abby would have to be there and then everything would be in balance.

Sam's favorite character would probably be based on looks at first... She'd definitely get attached to some other one later on. I feel like she'd think Chopper was cute, and Robin and Franky were cool, and not have strong opinions aside from that; she wouldn't realize how invested she'd gotten till the Impel Down/Marineford Arcs. She'd REALLY like Jimbei and Bon Clay.

Favorite One Piece Character?

Jeez, I honestly don't think I have one at all. I usually like the main character(s) the best, because they have the most time to be developed in the story. But OP is 1000+ chapters, so there are a ton of characters who have really interesting aspects and time in the spotlight.

I like pretty much every reoccurring character, haha. Antagonists included. Even the super shitty ones have cool designs and funny quirks...

More than fav characters, I just like to watch character interactions! Hmm, outside of the Straw-hats, I really really liked the Impel Down/Marineford cast. That was a big surprise to me even when I first read it years ago, bc I'm usually less interested when the main cast is absent for an arc. But that was like my fav story arc.
