Weekly Rant - December 1st 2024

Alright!

Since it's the first day of the new and last month of the year, I guess I'll just rant about whatever I feel like, because why not!

This past week was so stressful because I had to edit my entire graduation essay, I sent the e-mail to the teacher and she still haven't answered me. I'm so stressed because of all of this, it's not even funny anymore. Mainly because the last day to post the essay was november 30th, and still no answer.

Yesterday was my best friend's birthday and it was actually so cool to take my mind off of this and seeing my old highschool friends I haven't talked to since 2019. It's insane to think its been almost 5 whole years since we last saw each other, I felt like — even though we have changed as people, there's always the notalgic feeling that never changes. We grew up together, we know each other for over 10 years, so we are prone to fall back on old habits when we see each other again, right?

Yesterday was just pure joy, even with how stressed and anxious I was, and for that I'm grateful.

Came back only the next day, after 12 hours of gossip. Love that.

Also, I fell back into my Harry Potter phase. I think it's the time of the year, it always strikes me in the end of November to December.

I've decided to read a Tom Riddle fic, which was actually a great one! There's a few details here and there that made me unnamused, but it's worth the read if you're more than willing to push past the angst and some characters behaviours. Sometimes ooc, but aren't they all? So well written, made me extremely impressed, but the ending is bittersweet, Zelda deserved better than what she got, and so did Orion and Clara. It's called Catharsis by daffydarling

They have a James Potter fanfic also, so I'll give it a try!

I also been thinking of creating here a fanfic recommendation! Tell me what you think!

Aside from that, I'm playing Pretty Little Liars on my TV today and going to start to clean my room, since that's also a mess… tomorrow I have work, and I'm gonna try to talk to my course coordinator to talk about the essay… wish me luck, everyone!

Hate the whole 'Dumbledore created a child army!!!' thing. He absolutely didn't

The marauders joined on their own, and yes, he raised Harry as a pig for slaughter, and yes, it was obviously not right morally, but a) what choice did he have, save 1 person over the whole ww? and b)he hardly did it out of spite, he did what he had to do for them to win the war. Again, it's not moral but it is what it is. Ig it's understandable to hate him for it, but the claim that he created a child army is simply not true

But uk who did create a child army? Tom fucking riddle, ur uwu misunderstood baby who was traumatized by Dumbledore

He literally wanted to apply to be a teacher just so he could radicalise children

So much of his forces consisted of people who were either just out of school or not even of age yet

Snape, Avery, Muliciber, Rosier, Barty Crouch jr, Regulus (who became a DE at 16 btw), someone named 'Wilkies' (acc to Sirius in gof), and it's said that he tried to recruit james and lily too, and later Draco(even if it was only as a punishment)...

Lyk... that's a surprising number of fresh graduates. I don't mean to say that all these characters didn't have varying degrees of agency in signing up to be a part of his army, or that they're completely absolved of any responsibility, but given that his initial plan was to teach at a school just to recruit children, this is hardly a coincidence

The Hogwarts Library

The getting together of Remus Lupin and Sirius Black was a big deal. Or at least, it should have been. 

I mean, the first openly gay couple at Hogwarts was pretty earth shattering news, and not only that, but Sirius Black was part of that couple, and you gotta know people LOVE to talk about the Blacks. 

So, when Sirius and Remus started being public, you would have thought that the students would have yelled at the scandal, the papers would have reported the news, howlers would have been sent to them, calling them all sorts of names. 

Instead, the only thing they got in return was a good load of support. Obviously not everyone was thrilled by the news, but mostly they were left alone. 

The effect they got on all of Hogwarts was the most optimistic they could have hoped for: queer couples started pooping out from every angle. Lesbians, non-bianries, gays, polycules, asexuals and any kind of non Heterosexual pairing started to freely roam the halls of the castle, even some very unexpected ones (Sirius almost snapped his neck to do a double take when he saw Avery and Mulciber making out in an empty classroom).

All in all, it was good, thrilling even, that they could live their relationship freely. 

So they just behaved as they thought the most fitting: Remus wasn’t big on PDA, and Sirius was extremely jealous, so he liked to have the most romantic and private parts of Remus (like what he looked like drunk on kisses) all for himself, that meant that the boys would not make these grand public gestures à la James Potter. 

Obviously they were both very territorial, so it was hard to see them detached one from the other, they would always have to be touching in some way: a hand on a knee, hands holding while walking, pinkies intertwined while eating… things like that. 

But the absolute biggest change that this relationship brought in Hogwarts, was seeing Sirius Black in the Hogwarts Library. The boy deemed everything the regarded studying or revising dumb and useless, he would get top marks without ever touching a book (a thing that made Remus both swell with pride and burn in jealousy), but since those two got together, in the farthest corner of the library, in the most secluded table, near the tallest window, besides the painting of the dancing foxes, you could see two boys, one hunched over a book, the other just looking at him, with their hands locked on the table, chocolate wrappings all around them and, if you squint hard enough, little hearts floating all around them.

Hello, I just bindged watched all of The Purge movies so here's what I think certain Marauders characters would be doing during the Purge

(for anyone who doesn't know the purge is when anything is legal for 24 hours)

Remus Lupin wouldn't want to be outside for the purge but would go out to rob a bank or some shit. do some really small crime so he can get a bit of money for his sick mother

Barty Crouch Jr is fucking insane. He's fully out there in masks and covered in blood and is torturing people for his own entertainment. Yknow during the movies when you get little glimpse of people being strung to a car or being set on fire or some shit? yeah that's where Barty is and he's having the time of his life

Evan Rosier is part of those really rich clubs that kidnap poor people and hunt them for sports. He's just as insane as Barty but likes it to be a lot more contained and safer for him

Charity Burbage is at a purge party that her family hosts. The idea of the purge scares her but coke half way through the night she feels safe enough to let loose and not worry so much

Lily Evans is out during the purge helping people and killing the rich people who are trying to target the poorer areas. She hates the purge

Mary MacDonald is trailing Lily in hopes of protecting her because she's worried that Lily is going to get herself killed

James Potter and Sirius Black are out during the purge just for shits and giggles. If anyone comes after them they're dead but they're not going to actively harm anyone unless they really piss them off

Regulus Black is indoors and not coming out. He supports the purge and approves of everything that's happening but he doesn't want to be in it. His house is on lockdown and he's chilling at home while listening to people scream outside of his door. He doesn't help anyone. It's not his problem

Bruce Mulciber, Edmund Avery Jr and Juliette Wilkes are all out together targeting people who they don't like and earning money by kidnapping people to be given to the rich as a sacrifice. They're also just destroying building and shit whereever they go. they're having a lot of fun

Severus Snape was invited to go out with Mulciber, Avery and Wilkes but decided to stay home to protect his mother. His father went out during the Purge and Severus has his friends to kill him for him

Marlene McKinnon and Dorcas Meadowes have a business where people give them the names and addresses of people they want to be killed (for good reason. not any petty bullshit) and they go out and either kill them or scare them enough to right their wrongs

Pandora Lovegood is at home waiting for it all to be over. She hates the purge and will never participate

Peter Pettigrew was at home but was forced outside after his block was raided. He spent the entire night outside with no protection or plan

Aurora Sinistra is with her entire family round her aunties house. They're on lockdown and are playing board games and listening to music to pass the time

I know i always harp about how i prefer canon but by god I adore fanon Snape Gang so much. like yes they are blood purists hanging around with Hufflepuffs biggest muggle sympathiser Charity Burbage. She's the acception. Also shes rich. Aurora? She gives them study prep. She's dating Charity. She gets them into all the Ravenclaw partys. She is basically their big sister despite being the same age. Snape? He is HIM. Charity NEEDS to put him in her pocket. Mulciber wants him so bad. So what that he's a halfblood? It means they have diversity! Wilkes? What a dork. Every friendgroup needs a blonde or two. Who cares that he's demented, have you met Avery! Mulciber? This guy, amiright. What an asshole. Snape can't stop gawking. So handsome... so rich??? Chad alert. Avery? Also, asshole. We gotta love him. Again, handsome. Basically Mulcibers brother. Will put his damn life on the line for these guys then act all cold and distant.

Idk man. I think they are fucking dumb and completely not canon compliant but you gotta let a guy dip his feet in the canon divergence pool every once in a while right. Also the visualisation of Charity smuggling in tons of Muggle supplies to show everyone and none of them have a clue what any of it means except from Snape, halfblood, who thinks it's funny, and Aurora, a pureblood, who just has a hunch that you aren't supposed to use that walkman to make toast.

But hey, let's not pretend they are suddenly saints. They still all wanna become death eaters (Charity and Aurora as the exception) amd they still are all blood purists. I just think a little push in the right direction of character growth, a triwizard tournament, and unexpected allys could really create some yummy scenario's ^_^

(Also I'm a huge Charity Burbage fan so any content with her just makes me happy)

"Merlin, [name], can you stop that?" Professor Slughorn let out a sigh. You had a mischievous look on your face when you saw him. The books were floating in the air because of your doing.

"Stop what, Professor?" 

"Honestly, do you have to rearrange my entire library every time you get bored? Some of us happen to enjoy a bit of organization," he said, raising an eyebrow.

You tried to stifle a laugh. "I was just trying to help, Professor."

"If this is your idea of help, I'd hate to see what your idea of chaos looks like. Although," he added with a twinkle in his eye, "I must admit, you have a certain flair for it."

You huffed and leaned back in your chair as the books began to return to their places. "Sorry, Professor. I'll try to keep my flair under control." you rolled your eyes, a playful smile plastered on your lips.

"Much appreciated," Slughorn said, settling into his chair with a satisfied sigh. "Now, you better prepare yourself for this coming semester," he continued, steepling his fingers and peering at you over them. "It will be your first time at Hogwarts. And you're starting your fifth year."

"Oh yeah," You said before glancing at him. "What house do you think I'll be in, professor?" 

Slughorn chuckled softly, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Ah, now that's the question, isn't it? Well, my dear, considering your remarkable talents and keen intellect, I wouldn't be surprised if you found yourself sorted into Ravenclaw."

Horace Slughorn had been your mentor and caretaker for four years now, ever since Dumbledore suggested he take you under his wing. His guidance and wisdom have been invaluable, shaping you into the person you are today.

Of course, hearing a child that could do wandless magic and time-travel into the future but can't turn back into the past is clearly music in Slughorn's ears.

"How about Slytherin?" You wiggled your eyebrows causing him to laugh shake his head and point at you.

"Even better," Slughorn said. Slughorn was the head of Slytherin house 

You haven't seen your parents for a year now. You come back to London every summer to visit them but you didn't this year because you need to focus more on your study. You sent them letters though.

Gosh, you miss your friends in London.

And then there's Riddle.

Oh, Tom Riddle. The thought of him hits you hard. You left without saying goodbye, and the guilt gnaws at you. You tried visiting the orphanage once, but he was nowhere to be found. Mrs. Cole mentioned he got accepted into some school and had to stay there.

Does he wonder why you disappeared? The memories of the times you spent together flood your mind. ou recalls his intense eyes, his lack of empathy, and his cold shoulders to everyone. And, of course, how he was such a weird kid. 

His piercing gaze seemed to look right through you, but there was always something unsettling about it. He never showed much emotion, and his interactions with others were often distant and detached.

But the way he could speak Parseltongue really bothered you. You read about it in a book about the founders of Hogwarts. It was a rare ability, associated with Salazar Slytherin himself. The idea that Tom could talk to snakes made your skin crawl.

"It's quite difficult to catch him bullying other children," Mrs. Cole said as she put the laundry basket beside the laundry machine. "I'm sure your mother told you there have been incidents here?"

"Yeah," you replied, hopping onto the table and watching her. "Is he involved?"

"I believe so, indeed," she sighed. "Like with Billy's rabbit. Tom insisted he didn't do it, and I can't fathom how he could have, yet the rabbit certainly didn't hang itself from the rafters, did it?"

You stayed quiet, thinking about what she said. Riddle was a mysterious kid, always keeping to himself and giving everyone the cold shoulder. But he'd never been outright mean to you. You couldn't help but wonder.

"You're fourteen now, [name]," Mrs. Cole said. "You know what's right and wrong."

"Why so sudden?" you asked with a nervous laugh, uncertain of her direction. Your fingers fiddled with the hem of your shirt.

"Well, dear," she said, softening her tone but maintaining her serious expression, "you've known Tom for some time. If he's doing things that harm others, you must consider whether it's safe to remain friends with him." She paused, her eyes searching yours for understanding. "Though I must say, I'm really glad he made a friend." She added, a hint of a smile softening her features."

A wave of discomfort washed over you as her words sank in, and you furrowed your brows. "Is that what the staff here think of him?" you asked, your voice tinged with disbelief. "No wonder Riddle doesn't like any of the staff, except for my mother." You crossed your arms defensively.

FIRST PERSON POV

The bustling commotion of King's Cross station was in full swing today, as children exclaimed heartfelt farewells to their parents before boarding the train.

"[name]," Professor Slughorn's voice rang out, catching my attention. I returned his nod, signaling my understanding as he motioned for me to join him on the train. "What has got your wand in a knot? The train leaves in a matter of minutes!"

"I'm sorry, Professor," I replied, a nervous laugh escaping my lips as we settled inside the compartment. He looked at the hallway for a second before closing the sliding door completely.

"now then, I want to say something before we arrive at Hogwarts." He said before taking a seat across from you. "It's crucial to remember, that your abilities are not a toy to be flaunted," Professor Slughorn continued, his voice dropping to a low, hushed tone.

"Don't worry, Professor," I said with a smirk, my eyes gleaming with a mischievous glint. "I'll make sure to keep my powers under wraps. After all, I wouldn't want to outshine Merlin himself." A playful chuckle escaped my lips as I settled back into the seat.

"Jesus Christ." He shook his head with a low chuckle."Well, my dear, you may not have a charm-your-way-out-of-trouble spell, but you certainly seem to possess a rare gift for humor and wit," Professor Slughorn complimented, leaning back in his seat.

As the Hogwarts Express sped along its path, my gaze was drawn to the breathtaking landscape outside the window. The lush green hills seemed to roll on endlessly, each undulation illuminated by the warm rays of the sun.

"Oh right, I forgot to ask," I began before I glanced at Slughorn. "You mentioned that you've been mentoring someone at Hogwarts. When will I meet her?"

"Him," He corrects with a chuckle escaping his lips. Merlin, this guy really is a big chuckler. "You'll meet him soon enough. Don't worry. He's in the same year as you. He's quite a talented student, and I'm sure you'll have the opportunity to cross paths before long."

"Okay," I shrugged nonchalantly. He talks about the guy very often when he's mentoring me and trust me, it's annoying. Like come on, you're mentoring me and your mentor keeps talking about his other student? who wouldn't be annoyed by that?

I sat there, growing increasingly frustrated as Professor Slughorn's words buzzed around me like a swarm of persistent nifflers. "Brilliant young wizard," "exceptional student," blah blah blah.

But one thing that I've noticed is that he never told me his name.

~ part of nash’s personality is what I like to call “grandma nash”. he calls everyone ‘sweetheart’, he knows how to knit, he plays candy crush, he doesn’t know how to take a selfie, and his hearing isn’t great.

~ jameson loves dogs and always asks to pet a dog whenever he sees one. he’s not scared of any dog, big or small.

~ grayson likes to act all tough like he’s immune to everything but in reality, he has a bunch of allergies and is severely allergic to nuts, fish/shellfish, and blackberries. he’s also lactose intolerant.

~ max has an auditory processing disorder and can never hear what people are saying correctly. she’s the friend that asks ‘what?’ every time you say something.

~ while jameson loves to drink, avery hates the taste of alcohol and never drinks. she’s always the designated driver at parties and events.

~ jameson can do a bunch of crazy voice impressions - kermit the frog, elmo, kronk, and a bunch of other celebrities and cartoon characters.

~ when xander is in the sun for a long period of time, you can see that he has quite a lot of freckles and they’re so cute.

~ when the hawthorne brothers were little, tobias constructed a massive indoor playground for them to play on as kids. they still play on it as adults. ~ libby likes to do nash’s eyeliner, and god, does he look good

~ max cannot spell for her *life*. her texts to avery always look like gibberish and no one can tell what she’s trying to say.

~ grayson hated middle school pe but jameson was that one boy that was just a complete show-off. he could do a hundred push ups and sit ups, run the mile in five minutes, do the most laps on the pacer, etc. it made all the ladies swoon ofc.

~ oren is the KING of just dance, convince me otherwise. xander is a close second place.

~ avery is a ravenclaw, jameson is a gryffindor, nash is a hufflepuff, grayson is a slytherin, xander is a hufflepuff, max is a gryffindor, and libby is a hufflepuff!
