Cliff Notes Version of Main 616 Verse
Some of these events have happened through plotting, discord, and wire, and why you may not find the threads on my blog.
ZERO Upon clint's return to new york post freefall events and the headcanon/blog lore events of ohio (reason for going sober) [ see this post ]
ONE He has been attempting to go sober, he's had a few relapses and has almost given up a few times, his longest stretch and it'd the one he is on now is five and a half months
TWO He was recruited for the Thunderbolts after several rejections from trying to start a new team or move back out to the west coast
THREE Carol Danvers is his sponsor, who has helped him out and been a friend toward him when he hasn't thought he has had any left. ( @ / danversiism is the Carol )
FOUR Even after the months and time he has dedicated to the Thunderbolts, he still has not felt that it is his team or that they are doing anything meaningful and he has been an unhappy "leader" om probation
SIDENOTE Additionally, I think TBolts 2022 did a shoddy job with the whole PR centric team and in general, it'd a short read with poor attempts at call backs and does not treat clint with respect. So in taking inspiration some other comic events and media at the time
FIVE Roxxon is the parent company of the PR agency that Mayor Cage is using for the Thunderbolts. Helen is a very good PR manager, and perhaps doesn't realize, that Roxxon owns her agency, as Roxxon is generally a corporate evil and anti superheroes, Roxxon had funded the Underage Hero Welfare Act which wasn't a good thing, as it genuinely arrested children / young heroes and vigilantes and put them in "schools" and mistreated them and attempted to brainwash them.
SIX So based on that, you imagine the idea of if Marvel had given Tbolts 2022 an actual plot and cared about the team, if they had perhaps taken an angle like introduce Roxxon since in past few years, it seems we are gearing towards a crossover wild Roxxon takedown event (Tony's new run is literally going to be Roxxon-Stark war. Thor's run has Roxxon trying to slander Thor to the public)
SEVEN While Clint has been quietly back in New York, he encountered a disheveled (for lack of better term) Hank Pym ( @ / pympartic ) and takes him in. Gets Hank to doctors and Doctor Strange, and manages to confirm this Hank alive and Ultron free. Not wanting to alert everyone, due to his own worries about Hank and respect for Hank's wishes, he tells no one about his appearance and takes Hank in. Hank Pym becomes his roommate rent free, and honestly has helped Clint find some stability by having someone living with him. He's kept Hank a secret, letting Hank be the one to dictate who knows he is alive or not
EIGHT Additionally, consequences for Clint's actions, he truly does not own the Bed Stuy building anymore and it's one of his biggest regrets. He does not live in Bed Stuy anymore, his new apartment is a two bedroom in a different neighborhood in Brooklyn arranged by Tbolts PR Manager, Helen, who happens to have a key by the way (canon fact).
NINE The combo of asking Carol's advice and her becoming his sponsor along for the fact, Clint has been living with Hank Pym and seeing him recover from his traumas, has lead to Clint really trying these days, and always managing to get back go sober because he likes being sober after his slips, as well as it has led Clint to opening his eyes with how dissatisfied with the state of the Thunderbolts.
TEN His roommate, Hank, has begun to make contact with more and more of their mutuals friends, letting them know he's alive and doing well amd this eventually leads to Clint getting back in contact with a lot with a more people.
ELEVEN Such as Tony ( @ / transistorized ) whom Clint has since asked for help from and announced he wants to be an Avenger again and is in the process of quitting the Thunderbolts, once he gets out the contract he signed but didn't necessary scruntize over details. Additionally, Tony has been kind enough to offer to help Clint and Hank out by allowing them to move into an old brownstone he still has (since your pr manger/boss having keys to your apartment is a red flag).
IN SUMMARY Clint's sponsor is Carol, he's sober and going on 6 months soon, he is quitting the Thunderbolts, focusing efforts to be Avenger worthy, he's moving into a vacant brownstone Tony owns, his roommate is Hank Pym back from "the dead" and he'd reconnecting with people such as kate bishop ( looks at dani @ / purplearchcr ) , steve rogers ( looks at dean @ / shieldslinger ), as well as making new connections ( looking at Cass spider zombie @ / spiderz0mbie ). Clint's in his recovery and redemption era.
This is in general the details I am working with when I write with everyone, and is my main 616 setting and plotlines I am developing or have had an increased interest in writing. So if you see these mentions in other threads, now you know.
There is going be shipping in this main verse in which Clint and Hank are gonna smooch (aka Pow and I are severely brainrotted over Hawkant. Clint should kiss his friend, should marry the old Ant Man and adopt kids with him).
Yet here's a little disclaimer / reminder. I am still multiship
(I love all my ship partners and the verses we develop 💜💕 shout out to lynn, aurora, archer, rain, rocky, pom, and ce. I love our ships so much i am looking at all of you)
I do have other 616 verses beautifully crafted with other writers/friends and based around my ship partners and our ships, and I have posts for those somewhere, or I will make a new own when I redo my connections page, but hey if you're writing partner you're my bestie and we could develop verses too).
#[ about tag ]#[ about ; verses ]#[ verse ; main 616 ]#i need to sort my tags out#[ SHIPS; PYMPARTIC ] What did you bury before those hands pulled you from the earth?

Loose Threads (Marvel AU)
Back Story
Description: In a marvel alternate universe Vision was killed during the Thanos battle leaving a grieving pregnant Wanda. (Natasha survived, and also Reader is an Avenger) Reader was there to help Wanda through it and raised the twins, and eventually married Wanda. Twelve years after the battle Tony found a way to bring back those who were lost. What will happen when Wanda is stuck between Reader and Vision? And what about Readers best friend who has strong opinions about Wanda?
Warnings: Mentions of grief and loss of loved ones
A/n- Hi there, I had this idea stuck in my head and am finally getting to write it. Here is a little back story so that it isn't confusing when I start the book. Side note I will be changing and adding/removing things as I go so there will be something's that seem off.
Y/n's parents were two of the strongest hero's to ever exist the crimson and emerald wizard who were the past generations of power holders. After they pass their powers are passed down to the next chosen people.
Shortly after Y/n was born, their parents passed and Y/n was eventually given to their aunt for care. After five years they were sent to the Red Room for money. The red room trained young men and women to become obeying killing machines. There is where Y/n befriended Natasha Romanoff. They stuck together and protected each other until they were 17 and Y/n was discovered to have powers of telekinesis and was isolated to continue training and working on their powers. They became the strongest and most skilled member.
After escaping the red room Y/n spent a few years on the run before being recruited to become an Avenger. Y/n chose to keep their powers hidden from the team and stayed close to Natasha. Eventually a certain ginger joined the team and Y/n quickly became attached. But as Y/n longed for Wanda, Wanda longed for Vision. So they kept their distance.
After a certain battle concerning the world there were some tragic deaths. Clint jumped off Vormir to save Natasha. She feels guilty for his death and continues to try and help his family in any way she can. Carol Danvers snaps the gauntlet and due to her strength and powers remains unharmed. Throughout the battle there are many other deaths of friends and family and Tony works everyday to try and find solutions.
Vision passed leaving a pregnant Wanda to mourn his loss and try to get by. She was sent spiraling into a deep depression and was lost. Through this time Y/n helped and comforted Wanda to the best of their abilities. They grew closer and closer through the years and Y/n was always there to help Wanda. They even helped raise the twins Tommy and Billy. They were there so often that the twins started calling them O'pa. Eventually Wanda and Y/n's friendship turned into something more as they started dating and then got engaged until finally they got married. They live a happy life as avengers and parents together.
That is until now....

Consolation
Fandom: MCU
Pairing/starring: Loki Laufeyson x gn!reader.
Word count: 1487
Content: Mourning/grieving, death (nothing visual), sadness, fluff/comfort/consolation, referenced injuries, life threatening injuries, near-death situations, referenced combat, heartbreak...probably more sad stuff that I’ve blocked out. This is not a feel-good story.
A/N: Okay I’m really nervous what you’ll think about this one because it’s so different from what I’ve written before. Please let me know what you think. Also: sorry.
Consolation
... Reader ...
Not all missions go as they’re supposed to.
The mission you and Loki are returning from had been a co-op between Asgardian forces, the Avengers and the elusive Carol Danvers who had identified a hostile party of Sovereign. A splinter group out to bugger things up for both realms. And you had been honoured to be among the chosen ones that set out to combat them.
The plan had been to defeat the enemy.
That plan had been completed.
But at a steep cost.
There had been injuries, of course. It was to be expected when you’re up against a strong force that are unwilling to accept defeat, fighting until their last breath. But there had been fatalities on your side too. One for now but if the healers couldn’t help then the number would double.
A shuddering breath calls your attention back to the person next to you. Loki. He’s sitting with the elbows on the knees, dark leathers and creamy skin still smudged from the combat. He’s avoiding eye contact with everyone, just looking down at the floor between his boots, black tendrils of hair falling to shield his face.
From your seat onboard the spaceship, you glance towards the narrow cot where Fandral is lying, the white bandages already soaked through and with tubes sticking in and out of him – the Midgardian methods of healing are barbaric but they are all you have at your disposal right now.
Moving your gaze along it finds the figure lying completely covered under two capes – a red and a green. Immobile. Lifeless. Somehow your mind can’t quite see it and you’re not sure it would have made any difference if you’d gotten up to move the green cape in order to reveal the face: you’re not ready to accept the death yet.
You want to say something to him...but what can you do? Fandral, one of Loki’s few friends, is hanging on by a thread and...you glace once more towards the deceased. No, there’s nothing you can say. So you just sit, hoping that your presence will bolster the god just a little bit.
...
Loki gets up with zombie-like movements when the spaceship lands and he walks into the light of the setting sun without noticing the hubbub about him: healers rushing onboard with gurneyss to recover Fandral and help him, the returned heroes stepping off with tired movements – none of them celebrating the vanquish of the foe. But the victorious party does pause, all of them gathering up to watch Fandral and the covered body being brought away.
All of them with the exception of Loki.
You call for him gently, hoping to instill some hope or at least to get him to be checked by the healers himself...but your words fall on deaf ears.
Following the raven-haired god, you’re overtaken by Thor who clasps a large hand onto his brother’s shoulder, making him stop and turn. It takes a moment before Loki lifts his eyes to meet Thor’s gaze and you don’t hear any of them saying anything to precede the fierce embrace Thor gives.
By the time you come over to them, Thor has released Loki once more.
You trail behind Loki to your shared chambers and watch him lean against the door with his back. Slowly, his legs give way and he slides to the floor, his shoulders quaking but not a sound crosses his lips. Not even as his hands bury in his tresses, the long and strong fingers you love to feel against your skin now pulling at the strands.
Kneeling beside him, he doesn’t seem to sense your touch at first but at least it calms him after a moment and he picks himself off the floor. Rather than using his usual magic, Loki undresses piece by piece, discarding the clothes on his way to the bathroom.
Only as he stands under the cold water do the tears start falling, the salty trails immediately washed away from blueing cheeks. The frigid stream doesn’t bother you as you reach for him, your mind focused on consoling your love and easing his distress.
“I’m sorry,” Loki whispers.
“Don’t be,” you answer, stroking his back.
He keeps repeating the words.
...
He doesn’t bother to dry up, simply wraps a towel around his hips and then goes to collapse in a chair in front of the cold fireplace. It’s your favourite chair but this time you don’t insist on reclaiming it, knowing that Loki doesn’t need the squabble.
...
It’s late by the time a knock on the door rouses you both from the stupor you’ve fallen into.
“Yes?” Loki calls out, voice clipped.
The door opens to reveal Thor. He too has cleaned up though it hasn’t washed away the serious expression on his face. Stepping into the room, he looks around awkwardly before nearing his brother.
“What?” the raven-haired god demands though the usual emotion (often disdain) is missing. He sounds hollow. Broken.
Thor clears his voice. “Fandral will make a full recovery.”
You see Loki cock his head as though it’s the first time he hears the name. They briefly look each other in the eyes but then your love reverts to staring at the dark fireplace. “Good.”
It’s evident to you that Thor wants to say something yet he refrains and simply pats Loki on the shoulder before leaving.
“Darling,” you murmur once the door has closed, “you can’t stay like this.”
A shiver runs through him. Getting up, he brushes past you and only hesitates minutely at your side before magically dressing himself and stalking out of the room with you in tow once more.
He makes his way to the healers’ wing where he first visits Fandral who is lying unconscious in an intricate, golden cradle filled with the light of the healing magic. A healer explains that it will take time before the warrior will be well enough to wake up and Loki accepts silently.
Then the god turns and is pointed into a separate and cooler room.
There, covered in silvered and golden sheets, lies the only casualty of the mission. You can see Loki’s hands are shaking as he reaches out to pull the shroud aside and he hesitates.
“You don’t have to do this, my dear,” you whisper in his ear.
“I’m sorry,” he croaks, tears streaming freely once more, “I can’t...can’t do this. Not yet.”
You understand. “It’s all-” you begin before with a flicker of indigo clouds, he vanishes from the room, forcing you to hurry through the castle to find him.
He’s not in your chambers once you get there and you have to hope that he’ll return on his own because if Loki doesn’t want to be found then no one can find him.
...
You don’t see the love of your life before everyone assemble at the docks where a single ship has been prepared to set out towards the edge of the world. It will be burning as it tumbles over, the pyre on board will see to that.
Loki arrives together with Thor and you take your place next to the younger of the brothers, fingers discreetly stroking his knuckles. He looks tired. Paler than usual. And you can tell that he’s been crying yet no one dares break rank and embrace him. Not even you.
Without a word, the crowd splits to allow half a dozen Einherjar to pass, carrying the shrouded fallen. Carefully, they lay the body on the pyre before retreating and allowing Loki to step up.
You shouldn’t follow him but you do and no one stops you. Everyone are too sombre to want to make a scene and after all...why shouldn’t you be there for your love?
“I’m so sorry....this is my fault,” he croaks quietly.
“It’s not,” you whisper.
And still...something seems off as Loki stands by the shrouded corpse. This time as he reaches out, his hands still shaking, he doesn’t hesitate to fold away the fabric to reveal a familiar face.
Your face.
It’s your forehead that he leans down to kiss, salty drops landing on once lively cheeks.
And you instinctively know: this is the last time you’ll see the face of your beloved so you keep close to him as he steps back on the docks. You don’t take your eyes off of him as the ship is set afloat, riding the currents. You memorize his features as the pyre is set ablaze by flaming arrows...
... Loki ...
His heart is breaking all over again, shattering into dust that never will be reassembled and he feels so unfathomably empty. Yet...the moment the burning ship tips over the edge of Asgard, a gentle breath of wind caresses his cheek and he could swear that for just a moment, the scent of his beloved is in the air and it consoles him.

≛ main ≛ bio ≛ face ≛ muse ≛ starters ≛ wishlist ≛
about:
This is a sideblog, and I follow back from my main @grimmusings. Please direct IMs there, since it's easier for me to keep all my messages on one blog. It's also easier to start interactions with me there, where I regularly post open starters and meme prompts. For a full list of rules, see my main. Honesty hour questions will largely be answered IC and treated as anonymous unless signed by a muse.
Rhodey is a mix of Earth-616, MCU, and headcanons, all of them meshed them together for Earth-3490. All details vary based on verse, and I'm happy to write him into AUs and fandom crossovers. His characterization is heavily inspired by The Components of Construction. All post-CW threads in an MCU timeline are written with the faceclaim Gabrielle Union. I do not acknowledge any of the D+ shows in my verses.
wanted connections:
This is by no means a comprehensive list, and I can roll with most muses as far as basic interactions. I'm happy to ship Rhodey with other Marvel characters and OCs/fandom crossovers based on chemistry, but unless they're on my OTP list, they need plotting and interaction first. There is never any pressure to ship with me, even if they're on my list.
OTPs: Carol Danvers, Clint Barton, Tony/Natasha Stark Possible Ships: most Avengers NOTPs: n/a Family: Safe to say he'd love to be the Cool Uncle to all of Tony's various canon and AU children, but given the age difference, this is probably not the Rhodey they grew up with. Other: TONY TONY TONY. Whether it's bros, romance, or platonic soulmates, I'd love all the Tony connections.
default verses:
616: A mix of comics and headcanons where Rhodey and Clint Barton were dating pre-Civil War and chose opposite sides, ending the relationship. As this is not an MCU verse and Vision was not involved, Rhodey wasn't seriously injured.
3490: A blip universe in the comics where Steve Rogers and Natasha Stark are married, and the Avengers' Civil War never happens. I'm most comfortable writing this version of him, so feel free to have your muse playing tourist in his dimension or vice versa, especially if the age is off.
multiverse!madness: Various comics universes collide, whether Marvel/DC/etc. have always existed on the same Earth, or other-dimension shenanigans are at work. Duplicate friendly!
verses by request only:
I'm happy to write these, but since they're more specific AUs, I don't default on them for asks/memes. Please feel free to request them.
alt!3490: A blip universe in the comics where Stephanie Rogers and Natasha Stark are married, and the Avengers' Civil War never happens. (fem!rhodey / fc: vanessa morgan)
alt!postblip: An MCU timeline where Steve Rogers stays in the present timeline, Tony Stark doesn't die, and the snap brings back Natasha Romanoff. Jane Rhodes was paralyzed from the waist down in the Avengers' Civil War and uses Stark tech leg braces to walk. She identifies as homosexual and only ships with female muses. (fem!rhodey / fc: Gabrielle Union)
college!verse: A modern/realistic AU where Rhodey is an engineering and ROTC student at MIT.

Endgame (Chapter Two)
Summary: Armed with coordinates and a solid battle plan, the Avengers hunt Thanos down in the hopes of retrieving all six Infinity Stones to bring the Vanished back, but are quickly met with a shocking discovery.
Pairing: Steve Rogers X Reader
Word Count: 2.1k
Warnings/Disclaimers: None
A/N: This chapter’s on the shorter side but if you know what’s about to happen then you already know why (obligatory heads-up for sadness and angst in this one lol) Thank you for reading, I hope you all enjoy!
Chapter Two (Previous Chapter)
“Looks like you’re one of the ones with an added leg-up on this mission, hot-shot,” Natasha commented, casting a wary glance over at the towering Benatar while they waited for Rocket and Nebula to finish up their last-minute repairs to the spacecraft. “I’ve done a whole lot of things as a Black Widow, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and an Avenger, but I can’t say that I’ve ever traveled through space before.”
(Y/N) cracked a small smile as she fastened the last of her Asgardian armor over her new tactical suit. “Well, imagine you’re on the world’s fastest roller-coaster in the middle of a kaleidoscope and that kaleidoscope is trapped in a 9.5 magnitude earthquake, and that’s sort of what it’s like. Oh, and there’s a slight chance that you might pass out; that’s what happened to us after we escaped Sakaar and traveled to-” As she spoke, Natasha shuddered and Steve’s face paled, so she thought it best to quickly backtrack her words. “That’s only when you’re traveling through a jump-point, though! Normal space travel’s just like flying in a Quinjet or a helicopter, only the view is much prettier than anything you might see here on Earth and spaceships are a hell of a lot safer than a damn helicopter.”
“When I was a little kid, I always used to daydream about going to space…” The super-soldier sighed as he tugged his finger-less gloves on, the sorrow filling his features telling her that he was thinking about Carina. “Never thought that something like this would finally get me there.”
“Ship’s ready, humies!” Rocket announced across the manicured lawn of the Avengers Facility. “We just gonna stand around staring at each other all day or what?”
(Y/N) rolled her eyes at the raccoon’s attitude but followed Natasha and Steve as they boarded the Benatar for the first time. The trio took their seats in the second row of the spacecraft’s roomy flight deck, sitting in front of Rhodes and Thor and behind Rocket and Carol while Bruce and Nebula were seated on the lower level; for the first time in three weeks, the Asgardian didn’t look away when (Y/N)’s gaze met his and judging by the hint of a smile he gave her, he was feeling confident in their plan to acquire the Infinity Stones from Thanos and bring the Vanished back.
The spacecraft’s engines roared to life and once all of them fastened themselves into their seat harnesses, Rocket piloted them off the ground and up through the skies towards the planet’s upper atmosphere. Noticing how both Steve and Natasha were tensing up in nervous anticipation, (Y/N) nudged their shoulders and rested her hands palms-up on their shared armrests in an open invitation; the spy immediately latched onto her hand without taking her eyes off the flight deck’s viewport ahead but Steve was slower, tightly threading their fingers together and bringing their joined hands up to kiss the exposed skin above her engagement ring. They shared a knowing look before glancing over at Carol as she remarked with a reassuring smile, “Trust me, you get used to it.”
“Easy for you to say, Danvers, you glow and fly around shooting plasma bolts out of your fists for a living…” Natasha grumbled under her breath and (Y/N) bit back a smirk of amusement.
When Earth began to grow smaller through the flight deck’s viewports, Rocket turned around in his seat to address all of them. “Okay, who here hasn’t been to space?” Steve, Natasha and Rhodes all raised their hands. “You better not throw up on my ship.”
“Approaching jump in three…” Nebula called out as Steve’s hand gripped (Y/N)’s with a bruising force. “…two…” Natasha held her breath and braced herself against the back of her seat. “…one!”
The Benatar shot through the jump-point at breakneck speed and they were encased in swirling shades of blue and purple, speeding through space so quickly that all the stars around them appeared as fleeting streaks of white light. (Y/N) glanced over at Steve in time to watch his azure eyes widen in awe and despite the seriousness of their situation, she felt herself smile at the endearing sight. The moment they exited the jump-point at their final destination, however, her smile fell; the spacecraft hovered in orbit before the orange-colored planet where Thanos intended on living out the rest of his days, happy and satisfied in the knowledge that his plan to balance the universe had succeeded. He won’t be happy for very much longer, she thought as her jaw clenched tight, not if we have anything to say about it.
“That’s my cue.” Carol unclasped her seat harness and disappeared into the bowels of the Benatar; moments later, she appeared outside of the spacecraft and her voice spoke through their comm links. “I’ll head down for recon.” The captain flew off towards the tranquil planet while the rest of them finished planning and preparing for their impending fight with the Mad Titan.
(Y/N) had gotten up to help Natasha reboot the newly-repaired Hulkbuster armor for Bruce and was in the middle of adjusting her worn golden-yellow cloak when she saw Steve staring down at the familiar faded photograph of Peggy Carter pasted into the lid of his old compass; several years ago, she would’ve felt a pang of jealousy at the sight but now that she was older and their relationship had matured, she understood Steve’s connection to the remarkable woman and that there was nothing to feel insecure about. Throughout her groundbreaking life, Peggy Carter always seemed to know just what to do and if (Y/N) were being honest, she’d give just about anything to hear Peggy’s advice if it meant they’d win against Thanos and succeed in bringing everyone they’d lost back.
Natasha, who also noticed Steve and the weathered compass clutched tight in his hand, pursed her lips as her green eyes filled with sympathy. “This is gonna work, Steve.”
“I know it will.” After a moment, Steve closed the compass lid and looked up at the spy, the barest hint of fear in his gaze and a wavering edge to his voice as he continued. “Because I don’t know what I’m gonna do if it doesn’t.”
(Y/N) crossed over to where her fiancé sat and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pressing a kiss onto his jaw before nuzzling into his neck and listening to his steady heartbeat. “I promise that whatever happens down there, sweetheart, you won’t have to face it alone.” She tightened her hold on him as he leaned into her embrace. “I love you.”
Steve sighed and maneuvered his head so he could kiss her lips. “I love you too, sunshine.”
“No satellites, no ships, no armies…” Carol’s voice announced through their comms and they all turned toward the spacecraft’s viewport to see her fly up to it. “No ground defenses of any kind. It’s just him.”
(Y/N) and Steve exchanged a look as Nebula’s raspy voice filled the flight deck. “And that’s enough.”
The Benatar’s thrusters activated and Rocket piloted the spacecraft down through the planet’s upper atmosphere and into its clear blue sky littered with snow-white clouds; it was a tranquil planet, covered in trees and grass and peppered with stunning waterfalls of crystal-clear water, and (Y/N)’s blood boiled in rage at the thought of Thanos retiring to somewhere so beautiful after committing such heinous atrocities throughout the entire universe. The raccoon landed the spacecraft behind a dense forest of trees, out of sight of Thanos’ small hillside farm but close enough to journey there on foot, and they wasted no time, gathering their weapons and making their way through the trees towards their destination.
“Nice retirement project.” Once their group stopped by the trees bordering Thanos’ crops, Carol squared her shoulders and turned to face them as her body began to glow with cosmic energy. “Let’s pay this loser a visit, shall we?”
Carol shot off into the sky and blasted her way into the Mad Titan’s spacious farmhouse while Rhodes and Bruce followed in their respective armored suits; the sounds of battle echoed throughout the once-silent farm as all three heroes worked to restrain Thanos, and the rest of them began making their way up the path to the farmhouse. Once Rhodes gave him the signal through the comms, Thor burst into the farmhouse and Thanos bellowed in pain as the Asgardian severed his gauntlet-clad arm off with Stormbreaker.
(Y/N) exchanged an anxious look with Natasha and gripped her blaster’s shoulder strap as they followed Steve up the steps and into the farmhouse; inside, Thanos was kneeling on the floor and being restrained by Carol and Rhodes, while Bruce held him at repulsor-point and Thor brandished his blood-soaked battle axe. Rocket was the first to reach the severed arm but froze in shock when he flipped the heavy limb over to reveal six empty settings where the Infinity Stones once rested. “Oh, no.”
(Y/N)’s heart jolted in her chest and she glanced up to meet Steve’s eyes, an unsettling feeling beginning to form in the pit of her stomach; her emotions were reflected in her fiancé’s face but he did his best to bury them as he turned to face Thanos. “Where are they?”
When Thanos didn’t immediately answer, Carol’s glowing arm tightened around his neck. “Answer the question.”
“The universe required correction. After that, the stones served no purpose beyond temptation.”
“You murdered trillions!”
Bruce shoved the Mad Titan across the room, where he landed hard on the ground and spat out, “You should be grateful!” The Hulkbuster’s metal fist slammed into his charred purple face and stopped him from saying anything more.
Natasha’s green eyes shone with unshed tears and her voice shook as she took a step closer to Thanos and repeated Steve’s question. “Where are the stones?”
“Gone. Reduced to atoms.”
With her panic steadily rising, (Y/N) impulsively slung her blaster’s strap off her shoulder and aimed the weapon directly at Thanos’ smirking face, unbothered by the sudden threat of violence she found herself displaying. “We know you used the stones two days ago, so tell us where they are. Now.”
“I used the stones to destroy the stones. It nearly killed me, but the work is done…it always will be.” Her blood ran cold as the Mad Titan’s self-satisfied smirk widened, obviously relishing in their growing dread as they realized what had happened. “I am…inevitable.”
Hot tears formed in (Y/N)’s eyes as he repeated the same words he spoke to her back in Wakanda and she forced herself to look away, her knuckles tightening painfully around her blaster and her breath coming out in uneven puffs while all around her, the others were struggling to grapple with the seriousness of their situation. “W-We have to tear this place apart, he has to be lying-”
“My father is many things,” Nebula interrupted Rhodes’ rambling, her gaze trained on Thanos as a grim expression overtook her features. “A liar is not one of them.”
There was a subtle shift in Thanos’ demeanor and he looked up at his adoptive daughter with an emotion akin to pride written across his face. “Thank you, daughter. Perhaps I treated you too harshly.”
The sudden sound of Stormbreaker slicing through the air barely made (Y/N) flinch, her body entirely numb as she watched the Mad Titan’s decapitated head roll across the farmhouse’s floor. The others were in various states of shock, with a horrified Rocket being the only one to break the heavy silence engulfing the room. “What did you do?”
“I went for the head…” Thor replied, his voice shaking with grief and his eyes filling with tears. Without looking at any of them, the defeated Asgardian turned and walked out into the field of crops, his bloody battle axe still clutched tight in his hand.
Nebula, with the blood of her adoptive father speckled across her face, knelt down beside his severed head and closed his vacant eyes. Natasha and Rhodes were crying silent tears while Rocket sat on the farmhouse’s steps and buried his face in his hands, and both Carol and Bruce were at a loss for words as they stood and stared at Thanos’ body. (Y/N) hadn’t realized that her blaster was still raised until Steve’s hands came into view and gently pulled the weapon out of her bruising grip; her own hands were trembling as she covered her mouth and her shoulders shook with suppressed sobs, the feel of the super-soldier’s arms wrapping around her waist from behind proving to be the final straw. (Y/N) spun around and buried her face into Steve’s chest, her muffled cries echoing throughout the farmhouse as his own tears dampened her hair.
Steve held her against him even when her legs lost their strength but no matter how tight his grip on her was, there was nothing he could do to prevent her heart from shattering as she grappled with the knowledge that they’d lost. Their friends – some of the only family that either of them had – and their own daughter were truly gone forever, all because of Thanos.
“I am…inevitable.”

Escape them part II-
description: Carol Danvers was going to make her move. Whether you liked it or not.
Warnings: chasing, violence, cussing, gun play, fingering, primal/prey, attempted kidnapping, non con
After your one month anniversary with Agatha, Carol hardened. You wouldn’t answer her phone, shut everybody out, and excessively trained. Carol was going to make her move on you. To your surprise, “her move” would be quite terrifying.
Following a long shift at the coffee shop you worked at, you were finally ready to lock up for the night. As you turned the key in the door, a hand came up on your shoulders causing you to jump. You rapidly turned around and were met with a familiar face.
“Oh my god, Carol you scared me”. You playfully punched her shoulder. As you pulled your hand back, Carol roughly grabbed it. “Hi baby”. Her grip tightened on your wrist. “Carol, what’s going on?”. The fear in your voice was evident.
“Nothings going on sweetheart, just taking what’s mine”. Your breath caught in your throat. Sensing something wrong you began to struggle in her grip. Unfortunately for you, Carol was extremely fucking strong. The blonde quickly caught your other wrist causing you to be stuck in place.
You were terrified at this point. Carol was much stronger than you and you knew it. “Carol please, you’re scaring me.” Your voice caught in the back of your throat. Carol’s grip loosened a bit but she didn’t set you free. “Don’t be scared my love, I’m here to save you”. You rapidly shook your head. “No, there’s no one you need to save me from except yourself”. Carol’s nostrils flared.
“Let me go you psycho bitch”. You screamed at the woman. A smile crept on the kree woman’s face. “You shouldn’t have said that honey”. Without a second of hesitation, the two of you found yourself airborn as Carol gripped you tightly. You tried squirming out of her grip but it was useless.
When the two of you landed, you found yourself outside the compound. Carol was practically dragging you inside. You struggled as much as you could but she was just stronger than you.
Quickly, an idea came into your head. Before Carol could react, you kicked her in the shin and stepped on her toes. “FUCK”. You took off dashing at her reaction. Carol was faster and stronger then you and you knew it. You were hanging onto that thread of hope that you could beat the woman.
As you ran, you kept looking over your shoulder. Carol quickly caught up to you. You ran straight into her chest without knowing it. She was quick to grab you before you could go anywhere. You sobbed into her chest as her iron grip remained on you.
Carol wiped your tears with one hand and held both wrists with the other. The blonde woman pushed you against a tree and held both hands over your head with one of her hands. The other hand unbuckled your jeans. “You should know better than anyone sweetheart, I always get what I want”.
You began to fight under her grip as her fingers softly brushed your clit. “p-please Carol”. The blonde released your wrists but not before retrieving a gun from the back of her pants. “Beg”. The avenger raised the gun to your head and began fingering you at a rough pace.
You moaned as Carol wasted no time bringing to orgasm. Right as you were about to cum, Carol pulled her hands away. You began to sob as she licked her fingers clean. “Clean yourself up, slut”. Carol said coldly and left you go fix your clothes.
Tears cascaded down your cheeks as you held a gun to your back, directing you towards the compound. Once inside, the gun stayed. As the two of you walked to what you assumed would now be your shared room, you stopped at the sight of Natashas door.
Carol jabbed you with the gun as a means of telling you to keep moving. Instead you pulled your first trick again. Once again you kicked her and bolted towards Natashas door. You knocked profusely until the door open and you ran into Natashas arms. You were quick to shut and lock the door, breathing heavily. Natasha held your face in her hands and studied your appearance. “Don’t worry detka, I won’t let you go”. You sobbed into the redheads chest. She meant what she said, she wouldn’t let you go.
Deep down you knew, Carol wouldn’t give up that easily.

Hellhounds and Supersoldiers (Part Three)
Based on this request: “Teen Wolf and MCU crossover. The reader is Captain America. Y/N goes to a local café and meets Jordan Parrish, who offers to treat her to dinner. They go on a few dates and become a couple. The Avengers coincidentally encounter Jordan, Stiles, Scott, Lydia, Kira, and Malia after fighting the Chitauri and everyone eats together”
part two / masterlist
You find out the full truth soon enough. It takes you leaving the battlefield, barely waiting long enough to change into something that isn’t your Captain America gear, and sprinting to Jordan’s police station for the truth to finally sink in. They’re gone, all of them- not just Jordan, whose loss would have devastated you by itself, but the entirety of the pack. Scott, Stiles, Kira, Lydia, and Malia. All gone.
You knew it beforehand, though, didn’t you? You could tell on that battlefield when you couldn’t reach any of their phones, when this mind numbing pain crept around you. You knew that you wouldn’t be coming home to any of the people who mattered most. Now, all you have are your few remaining coworkers and your brother. The people from this century who truly knew you as Y/N Rogers and not just the girl with the shield are all dead.
You spend your days in the Avengers compound, not doing anything in particular, just listlessly trying not to remember what you’ve lost. You can’t seem to force yourself to go back to the apartment that you shared with Jordan- you keep expecting to see him walk through the door after a late night, or appear around a corner to smile again. Eventually, you stop returning home altogether. It just feels so empty that you can’t stand it.
Steve, Nat, and the others are trying their hardest to figure out something to do. Surely you can track down Thanos, force him to undo the Snap, and get everyone back, right? No one says the one thing that’s on everyone’s minds: if you couldn’t stop him before, when you had your full team, how are you supposed to do it now when he already has the Gauntlet and you’re down half your allies?
Then again, this is what the Avengers do best: they hope, even in the worst situations, and they find a way to get at least some fragment of a win out of a grievous loss. All the same, this one feels like it might be a little too wild of a chance for it to fully work.
You do get one good thing, a little later: the arrival of a new and extraordinarily powerful ally, Captain Carol Danvers, who arrives bearing gifts of a broken spaceship with Tony Stark on board. He’s emaciated, barely even alive, but it is enough. Maybe you can scrounge up some hope after all.
Carol’s all ready to set sail. She talks about a farm where Thanos could be, based on information from Nebula. This could be your one shot to get everyone back. Was there ever a chance that you didn’t go along with it? Even when you arrive and realize that something is wrong, that there’s no way the Mad Titan would ever let you get this close if he had the Stones, you still hold on to that one fragment of hope. Surely, after everything, you’ll be able to get Jordan back.
But you don’t. Instead, you walk away with the rest. You can still hear the thunk of Thor’s axe decapitating Thanos, but even the Mad Titan’s death won’t help you. It’ll feel good, maybe, to know that he’ll never be able to take anyone from you again, but the damage is done. In the end, even a sea of blood won’t bring back those you love. You don’t know that anyone ever can.
You bid Tony goodbye after that. He walks with you to the car. Does it hurt to see him like this, noticing how his usually unshakeable grin now has a grain of reality to it? Tony has known incredible loss, and on that ship, he expected to know death as well. That’s not the sort of thing that you tend to forget.
Tony claps you on the shoulder. “Well, see you later, Cap. Call me if you need anything.” You shake your head. “Get some rest, Tony. We owe you that much.” Tony chuckles, but you can hear the threads of exhaustion running through it. “That would be nice, wouldn’t it? You were always my favorite Rogers.” You snort, unable to stop yourself. “That’s just because I didn’t try to blame you for everything.”
Tony points a finger in the air in agreement. “Exactly. You should get some rest too, you know? Go find your officer.” He sees your wince, and his shoulders drop. “Not Parrish?” Your voice is cracked when it finally manages to escape your throat. “All of them. Everyone in the pack is gone.” Tony slumps a little, then walks forward to embrace you with one arm. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I know it won’t do anything, but I’m sorry. We should have won this fight.”
You hug him back. “I’m sorry too. I’ll call you if anything changes, alright? I know my brother, and I know he won’t stop looking for a way to fix all this.” Tony chuckles quietly. “He won’t, will he?” He steps aside, putting a bag in the trunk of his car. Tony opens the door then pauses, knuckles white against the handle. “Take care of yourself, okay? Don’t let this consume you.” It’s hard to muster up the energy to fake your smile as you watch him go. “I don’t know what else it could do.”
At first, you don’t know how you could possibly move on, how you could continue drawing breath as if nothing happened and you hadn’t lost almost everyone you’d ever held dear. Yet one day passes, then another, then another. The years flip forward before your disbelieving eyes. Before you know it, it’s been five years. Something in the back of your mind tells you that you should move on, but you don’t. You might be a victim to time, but this kind of hurt isn’t the type that lets the years heal it.
Then, out of the blue, you get something. In the middle of the stormy ocean, you’re thrown a rope. Scott Lang appears, spewing stories about the quantum realm. You can see it in Steve’s eyes, can’t you? He’s thinking the same things you are: this is your way back. This is how you save everyone: through time travel, of all things. Only something this absurd could possibly work, but it’s precisely the absurdity of this plan that stops it from working.
Tony doesn’t want to believe you at first. He shakes his head, muttering things about how he’s tried to move on and you should too. You smile over at Morgan when you visit Tony’s house with Steve, Nat, and the rest. Tony’s quietly invited you over a few times, on the main principle that you don’t talk about Avengers work. You’ve been able to see Morgan as an infant, then a toddler, and now. You can understand why Tony is afraid to leave.
That doesn’t mean that you don’t regret walking away. There’s nothing you can do to convince Tony, of course, you’ve spent enough time working by his side to know that. In the end, it is Tony and Tony alone that will shape the way he thinks. If you give him enough reasons, he might come to see your point of view, but in a purely Tony-filtered state that you couldn’t even dream about.
That’s why you smile to see his car pull up outside the Avengers complex a few days later, not from surprise, but a quiet relief. Tony flashes you a wink as he walks inside. “Don’t give me that look, Cap 2. We both knew I still had a little fight left in me.” You grin broadly. “I think it’s more than a little, Tony. It’s good to see you back.”
Before you know it, you’re being suited up in new white uniforms, ready to travel back in time and retrieve the stones. You’ll be going with Tony, Steve, and Scott to New York to get the Tesseract. After parting ways with Bruce, you head towards the old Stark Tower. It’s strange to see yourself as you were then: still unused to the modern world, but trying to fit in nonetheless. You didn’t realize when you’d fully embraced the world of today, only that it had happened sometime since that fight. This is your time now, and even if you were given the chance to return to the 40s, you’re not sure that you would take it. There’s just so much good about now that you don’t want to give up.
Good things like Jordan, actually. Just before you reach the tower, you freeze in place. There he is, across the block, running with Stiles and the rest of the pack to safety. This must have been after you saved his life that first time, as Malia is trying unsuccessfully to get him to explain why he’d kept your status as Captain America a secret.
You duck back into the shadows of a partially destroyed building so he can’t see you. The sight of him is like a knife slicing through your heart. It hurts to stumble upon him like this. How could you have ever thought that he would always be there, that his presence was a reliable gift? You’ve spent so much time missing him that you almost want to run to him now, and say all the goodbyes you wish you had time to say before.
Instead, you snap your eyes shut, opening them once he’s gone. You can’t afford to be distracted, even if it’s by the one person you most want to save. Despite your best efforts, though, the plan still fails- Loki gets the Tesseract, of all people, and now you’re down one Infinity Stone. Tony and Steve come up with a last ditch attempt to get it from a 70s-era Camp Lehigh, and you go with them.
You know that Steve isn’t ready to see Peggy. He stares at her through the window of her office like he’s never seen her before. You give him a moment of peace, then gently touch his arm. “I know, Steve, but we have to go.” When your brother looks back at you, you’re almost torn apart by the sheer hurt in his eyes. This is his love, the one he had to leave behind. How can you ask him to go away?
In a way, you’re glad that you have your brother by your side to force you to stay on track. He’s not the only one with someone they loved in this decade- you had a soldier, once, and he’s here too. You’re almost relieved that you don’t run into him, yet at the same time you find yourself searching for him in the crowd. Would it be better to see him again so you could say goodbye, or worse, because you know you’d have to leave?
Eventually, you make your way out, and meet up with Tony once more. He’s got a shell shocked expression on his face, likely because he’s just had an impromptu reunion with his father, but he manages to pull himself together and head back to the modern day once more. You’re just feeling like you and your team might have been able to win this when you look around and realize that you’re missing somebody. Nat went to Vormir and never returned.
Clint tells you what happened eventually, but you just feel numb. How many more losses can you take? You are human, despite the best interests of the doctors, and right now you feel every inch of your mortality. You mourn with your friends. It is not enough.
The only thing you can do now is what you set out to do in the first place: to bring everyone back. Maybe it will work, and maybe it won’t. You find you don’t care much about the consequences anymore. Bruce assembles the Gauntlet and snaps his fingers. You almost don’t think it worked until your phone begins to vibrate in your pocket. You take it out with trembling fingers, unable to hide a quiet gasp when you read the name of the caller: Jordan Parrish.
You accept the call and hold the phone to your ear. For a moment, you can’t do anything except stand there. “Jordan?” A man’s voice filters back through the phone, and a silent tear runs down your cheek at the sound of it. “Y/N? What happened? I-” He says more, but you can’t hear it- a sudden explosion roars around you, and suddenly the entire Avengers complex is sinking beneath the earth.
As it turns out, you weren’t the only ones aware of your passage through time. Thanos is back with an army, and he’s ready to take back the Gauntlet and snap his fingers once more. You take a final stand with your brother, Tony, and Thor. You’ve come this far; to give up now would be far worse than dying. You won’t let Jordan leave you again.
However, you won’t have to fight alone quite yet. Around you, portal after portal erupts into being as the Masters of the Mystic Arts bring back everyone to the battlefield. You can see everyone you thought you’d lost in the Snap, and it’s enough to make you break out into a wild grin. This, at last, is how you win.
And you do win, at a price. You kneel at Tony’s side when he dies. There is no end to the losses you must endure, is there? In the end, when you finally manage to get your wounds bandaged and you’re out of your armor, you start to walk away from the Avengers complex. You’re not entirely sure that anyone else knows where you’re going, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is the car that finds you after a little while. Hellhounds tend to know things like this, don’t they? If anyone could find you in the middle of nowhere, after a battle like this, it would be Jordan.
He parks the car, then comes out hesitantly. You stare at him for a moment, unable to believe your eyes, then run to him. You pull him close, treasuring the feeling of him in your arms once more. After so long, it’s like being in a dream. Maybe you were the one to die on that battlefield instead of Tony, and this is what you’re going through in the afterlife. Or, by some stroke of luck, Jordan is back and you’re both alive.
Jordan leans back to stare at you. “You look different.” You manage a broken gasp of a laugh. “It’s been five years, Jor. People change.” He shakes his head slightly. “Five years. I’m so sorry.” You reach out to take his hand. “Don’t be. You didn’t make the choice to die. Just promise me that you won’t leave again.” Jordan smiles resolutely. “Never again.”
He sticks true to that promise, as it turns out. You get married within the year. It’s a simple ceremony, including the pack, the Avengers, and a few friends you made along the way. Jordan’s smile could outshine the sun when he sees you begin to walk down the aisle. You’re pretty sure that a few tears are shed along the way. You end up adopting a child a few years later- a girl, Natasha Parrish, named for the woman who made all of this possible. Every time she grins, you swear you can see your friend in her eyes.
You end up retiring after that. You’ve sold your soul enough times to make it through the fights, and for once, you want to rest. Tony taught you that, didn’t he? Your brother ends up making the same choice, and the two of you solidify your decision after you both go back in time to return the stones. Steve elects to stay in the 40s, after saying goodbye to you. You choose to return to the present time, although you do not fault your twin for his decision. You could see it on his face when he walked away- he was happy then. You will not hold his happiness against him.
You see him again when you return. Is it strange to see your twin brother gray and wrinkled when you’re just as young as always? You smile to see him with his laughter lines and generations of stories. Steve gives his shield to Sam, but you give yours to Bucky. They’ll need them in the years to come. The bad guys won’t stop coming just because a few of you retired.
Jordan also seems happy to see you return. He admits that he was afraid that you would make the same choice Steve did. Jordan knew you had a lover back in the 40s, and he feared you would want to stay with him instead. In truth, it was a hard decision to make. This time, you weren’t able to avoid seeing your old love, but instead of feeling the soul-crushing pain of leaving him, you felt closure. You said your goodbyes and came back to the man you truly loved. Your soldier from the 40s may have been your past, but Jordan is your future. In the end, that’s what matters most, and you tell him so yourself.

Can I Be Him? (Carol Danvers x Fem! Reader)
Summary: You and Carol have been the bestest of friends for years and years, to you it’s simply platonic. Whereas for Carol, she tortures herself constantly pining after you. The situation only gets worse when you get engaged to your boyfriend of three years and Carol has to leave for a mission (that could more or less take her six years to get back from).
The day before Carol has to leave, she admits her feelings for you, giving you two choices: to leave him and go with her or stay with him and get married.
Who will you choose and what will be your outcome?
Author’s Note: Yeah, I’m gonna make this a two parter lol since I wanna be dramatic. But stay tuned for tomorrow’s add on! 😁
Fic inspired by James Arthur’s song Can I Be Him? Which was 1000% the reason I wrote this.
Warnings! ANGST
Part Two Here!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You walked into the room and now my heart has been stolen.
You took me back in time to when I was unbroken.
Now you're all I want.
And I knew it from the very first moment,
'Cause a light came on when I heard that song and I want you to sing it again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Carol, stop! You’re cheating!” You shriek as her Mortal Kombat character starts to pummel yours into a bloody pulp.
“How is it that you’re the one that taught me this game, yet—I’m kicking your ass.” The blonde says with a cocky smirk. “Guess you just suck.”
“Or my controller’s stuck.” You shot back.
“Yeah, okay,” She rolled her eyes playfully.
You two were at your apartment, it was your day off and you wanted nothing more than to relax at home, Carol just happened to sweeten the deal with a case of beer and some pizza.
The Captain and the Avenger, or as the others like to call you—Bert and Ernie. You and Carol were about as thick as thieves and you were never really seen without each other hardly ANYWHERE around the compound. It all started when Carol had been assigned a partner to accompany her on a mission to The Garden back in 2018. Everyone swore that you two wouldn’t get along, with your ability to plan ahead and Carol’s ability to...not plan ahead it was bound to be a recipe for disaster. But after a few jokes here and there and a battle later on you two became inseparable.
Nothing could shake or disrupt the bond that you two had, all except for one thing...him.
Carol had beaten you three times in the past five minutes, she offered a final round after noticing your frustration only to win again within seconds.
“Well, well, well,” Carol throws her arms behind her head. “What’s my score again, four? And what’s yours, zip?”
The playful challenge in her gaze stirred your competitive edge, the one that hated to lose and absolutely hated being out of control. Especially in the game of your choosing.
You cross your arms over your chest and pouted like a child, “It’s only because you cheated.” You huffed.
“Yeah, keep on telling yourself that, babe. Don’t be mad because you’re a sore loser.” She teased.
“Re-Match then.” You challenged with a grin. “If I win, you’ll do whatever I say. Same thing goes if you win.”
Carol’s brows lift up in intrigue, “Oh yeah? Like what?”
“That’s something we’ll have to figure out on our own time.” You say. You extend your hand out for Carol to shake. “So, do we have a deal, Danvers?”
She takes your hand, shaking it firmly. “We do.”
Her grip on your hand lingers longer than she meant to, yours were baby soft compared to hers, each callus and dry patch were a layout of her life, each held a story and meaning.
You slid your hand out from her grasp when you heard the door open and shut. You turned your head in the direction of the approaching footsteps, a smile forms on your lips when you hear, “Sweetheart? I’m home!”
“Hi, honey!” You call out.
Kevin Davis, your boyfriend of three years. A man as sweet as they came, someone that would move Heaven and Earth for you. He was a doctor helping out at the compound and you just so happened to come back from a mission with some severe battle damage. Long story short, you two fell in love and moved in together.
Carol forces her best smile before her eyes met with your boyfriend’s. “Hey, Kevin.”
“Hey, Car.” He greets with a small smile.
Carol hated that nickname. Much more than she hated him.
Not that he was a bad guy. Kevin was actually a great guy, always able to help out and very friendly. She didn’t hate him for that though, she hated how you would look at him when he told a joke or how your eyes would light up when you talked about him. But what Carol had hated most of all...was that it wasn’t her.
A portion of her heart dies as she sees you stand up to kiss him, you two talked and acted as if she wasn’t there, which made her want to scream and cry until her throat went raw. These feelings began the first time she met you. After the Snap, everyone was expected to mourn and remember the loved ones who vanished. Carol was dealing with losing a loved one as well. Her best friend, her rock, and the only family she had, Maria Rambeau, who had passed away from cancer.
You were there when she went and comforted her immediately after. Your bond strengthened since that day, as well as Carol’s feelings for you.
“I should be heading out,” Carol drew herself to her feet. “I gotta get up early for a meeting.”
“No, Carol you don’t have to leave, we can continue our game.” You tried to convince her.
‘I’d rather chew on barbed wire than to be in the same room with him.’
But instead of saying that, she bites her tongue and simply shakes her head. “It’s okay, Y/N, I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
You gave a soft smile. “Okay.”
“Bye, Kevin.” The words produced the taste of bile to spread on her tongue.
“Bye, Carol.” Kevin says with his unrelenting smile.
Carol manages to make it to the car before she bursts into violent tears.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I swear that every word you sing, you wrote them for me.
Like it was a private show, I know you never saw me.
When the lights come on and I'm on my own,
Will you be there to sing it again?
Could I be the one you talk about in all your stories?
Can I be him?
I heard there was someone but I know he don't deserve you.
If you were mine I'd never let anyone hurt you, no, no.
I wanna dry those tears, kiss those lips.
It's all that I've been thinking about.
'Cause a light came on when I heard that song and I want you to sing it again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Six years.
Six years on recon for a planet held hostage by some alien heretics, a distress call was sent and Carol was the only one who had answered. Six years and a million light years away from Earth, and a million light years away from you.
Carol had to leave early the next morning and wouldn’t have the chance to say goodbye to you before she left. So she decided to head over to your apartment for the re-match, once there; she found saying goodbye to be much more difficult than anticipated. Especially when you would greet her with such a smile that was now burned into her memory.
She tried not to think about it at all while you were playing the game, she tried not think of anything while playing.
“How are you beating me again?” You cried in disbelief watching Carol’s character slice yours in three parts.
“I told you I was good, you just didn’t believe me.” She smiles smugly. “Looks like I’m gonna win the bet.”
“You can try,” You challenged as you poked your tongue out at her.
Carol regained her focus back to the video game, having you on the ropes and your character’s life bar hanging on by a thread. It wasn’t until you lifted your left hand to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear that she caught glimpse of the gold engagement ring practically beaming up at her.
That was when she paused the game.
You gave a puzzled look. “What’d you do that for?”
Instead of answering you she stood up quickly, turning her back to you as she tried to fight the tears that threatened to slip down her cheeks. Engaged, how could you be engaged? And why with him?
“Carol?” You called softly.
“You weren’t gonna tell me...about the ring?” She asks, doing her best to hold off on crying.
Your eyes dart down to the gold band on your finger, fiddling with it gently. You yourself were quite shocked about it, the second that Carol left was when Kevin had proposed to you.
“I didn’t know how to say it,” You murmur. “I wanted to tell you first before I told everyone else.”
“So you decided to wear it and hope that I’d notice?” She chuckles.
“I was gonna talk to you after the game, ya know...if you hadn’t paused it.” You say as you awaited some form of a retort from your best friend, only to get no response. “Are you okay?”
Carol remained quiet for a few minutes, allowing the warm streams of water to fall down her cheeks. Burning as they did. Before you had the chance to ask again, Carol’s lips part to speak, the tears evident in her voice, “Why’d you say yes?”
“What?” You blinked up at her. “What do you mean?”
“I’m asking why him?” Her lip trembles.
“And I’m asking what brought this up?” You retort. “Because you’ve never said anything about this before and...and I don’t understand why now?”
She sighs before turning to you, her eyes pink and swollen. “Why now?”
You nod.
“Because I loved you since the beginning but I didn’t know it yet, and I especially didn’t know that it would hurt to love you this much.” Carol tells you, crying harder. “Especially when you talk about him.”
“Why didn’t you say anything sooner?” Your throat constricted as unshed tears stung your eyes. “Waiting until now to say something doesn’t change anything, Carol. You can’t just—“
“I’m leaving for a mission tomorrow,” She says abruptly. “...for six years.”
The words that formed on your tongue evaporated instantly, gazing up at her with quiet intensity. “When we’re you going to tell me?”
“Today.” She replies.
“And that was supposed to soften the blow?”
“I thought—“
“No,” It was your turn to cut her off. “You can’t just drop a bomb on me like this.”
“You’re one to talk, when were you going to tell me that you were engaged?” She shot back, your silence being the response that she needed. “I thought so.”
You fiddled with your ring again, the band was heavy now feeling as if it would constrict your finger. “I loved you too...from the start, and I still do. I waited for you—to step in at any moment. I pushed Kevin away multiple times because you’re the one that I wanted. And...I still want you. Only you, Carol. If you would’ve said something then I wouldn’t be engaged. But now it’s too late.”
“Come with me,” She cried. “Please...”
You shake your head slowly, your tears flowing down your cheeks with haste. “I can’t—“
“Yes, you can. Leave him. Leave him and...and come with me. Please, Y/N.” Carol begged. “You say it’s too late but you still have time. We still have time. Come with me...please.”
“Carol, I—“
And before you were able to finish your answer, the door opened and Kevin walked in, “Hi, baby! I’m home!”
“Hi, honey.” You reply quietly.

| muse: Carol Danvers | open to: canon or oc | sexuality: bisexual | suggested connections: crime fighter, avenger, someone with powers
After she listened to them vent and bitch for a good while, which they deserved to and she was glad they’d come to her, she just couldn’t help her response. “You know, I don’t know where you got the idea that this would all be easy but,” She adjusted at the table. “It’s not. Life’s tough get a helmet.” She shrugged then lifted her drink to her lips, “It’s not fair, nothing’s ever fair. Once you get that out of your head, it’s less of a struggle.”

You truly think that you’re going to throw up.
You haven’t moved out of your apartment since you came back from James’ apartment.
Your phone has been non-stop vibrating since you got off your phone call with Natasha, and she’s the only one you’ve kept updated on the situation. You told her she could... vaguely explain to Wanda and Carol what happened, but you couldn’t bring yourself to leave your apartment.
You were a mess, to say the least.
Natasha had tried to come by to see if you were alright, but you couldn’t let her in. You were embarrassed. James kissed you, and he made you look like a fool. He thought he could make things better by kissing you, but every time you remembered what his lips felt like on yours, all you could feel was humiliation.
Did he think you were that easy? That if he kissed you and slept with you, that it would erase your past with him?
You didn’t know what to think, and it was eating you alive.
You usually knew. You knew how to think rationally, to think things through, and to make the right decision.
But now, you felt like you knew nothing.
And now, you have to show up to class next week and teach alongside the man who made you look like a joke.
-
On the other hand, James was quite literally losing his shit.
He felt like an idiot.
After he kissed you, he realized two things.
One, he was idiot.
And two, he liked you. A lot.
Well, it was more or less Steve that led him to both conclusions, but hey, he got there.
When he called Steve after you quite literally fled his apartment, he realized just how fucking stupid what he did was.
“Buck, you gotta see this from her perspective. For a year, you ridiculed her every chance you got, and all of a sudden you spring all this shit on her that you didn’t mean it, etcetera etcetera. And then you kiss her. She’s quiet, shy. I don’t talk to her about personal things much, but Nat knows. She trusts her, and she tells her about everything she’s been through. A week ago, she thought you hated her. You just humiliated her and made it look like she was easy, someone you could kiss and fuck and move past your history with her.” Steve spoke through the phone to his friend.
After listening to everything that Bucky said, Steve couldn’t understand just how stupid his friend was.
“I- I never meant for it to be like that. I do like her, a lot. And I feel like such an idiot for what I did before. She- After watching her sit in my house, after seeing her with Alpine, I just... I realized just how fucking wrong I was... And now she’s never gonna talk to me again.” Bucky realizes, and it hits him like a ton of bricks.
“Okay, you’re being dramatic, Buck. You guys still have to teach together next week. You just need to find a way to straighten things out with her by then, or else someone’s gonna report back to Fury that you two aren’t doing what you’re supposed to. And we all know that you don’t wanna be in trouble with him.” Steve continues to explain.
‘You’re right... But how do I even reach out to her? She’s not gonna answer a text or phone call, but I don’t think she would appreciate me just showing up where she lives... And I don’t even know where she lives.” He tells him, trying to think of any way to reach you.
“Well... I don’t how much I can help you from here. Just... be careful, Buck. Don’t end up doing more harm than good. Okay?” Steve carefully warns him.
“Yeah, I know, Steve.” Bucky tells him. “I gotta go, I’ll talk later man.” He concludes, promptly ending the call.
-
It’s Saturday, and Bucky’s panicking.
Why, you may ask?
Well, other than the fact that he made a dumpster fire out of his relationship with you, he singlehandedly made all of your friends who were staff at Avengers University hate him.
He’s spent the morning calling Natasha, who promptly picked up and hung up right after. Then Wanda, who didn’t even bother answering. Finally, Carol. Carol didn’t really give away much, but she did want to help.
Carol didn’t tell him which apartment you lived in.
But she did tell him what building you lived in.
“And why should I help you, Barnes?” Carol asked, well on her way to her meeting.
Bucky was running to catch up with her, clearly walking faster to avoid him.
“I- Listen, just, give me something. Natasha and Wanda ‘ve been avoiding me, and I know they’re not gonna help. I-I’m desperate.” Bucky practically begs, and Carol can’t say she’s not shocked.
“Well... how far are you willing to go?” She stops her walking and asks.
“I-I’ll do anything. Please, Danvers. I’ll buy you coffee for a week. Y-You can have my parking spot! Anything!” Bucky was ready to get on his knees if he needed to.
And that’s exactly what Carol wanted to see.
“Hmm... I don’t know... How do I know you’re actually sorry for what you’ve done?” She questions, nose in the air.
“Carol, I know I fucked up, alright? Steve and Sam can barely even look at me, Natasha and Wanda are ready to rip my head off on sight, and plus...” he paused, trying to lift the weight off his chest, “...plus, Y/N means a lot to me. And I know I acted like a goddamn idiot before, but it’s different now. I... I like her, a lot, and I never meant to hurt her. I... I need her to understand that.” Bucky was out of breath from his rant, and Carol squinted her eyes at him.
“I’m giving you one thing. You have to figure it out from there. Or else Y/N, Nat and Wanda would kill me.” The blonde says after a moment of silence. “She lives in the Livingston Towers. That’s all you get. I’m late to my meeting, bye.” She says, flipping her hair while strutting away.
Now, it’s Saturday morning and Bucky’s at the lobby of your building. Although it’s definitely not half as lavish as his own, it was still lovely. Warm, cozy. The man sitting at the desk watches him as he approaches his small desk, and Bucky looks pale as a ghost.
“H-Hi, I’m looking for someone who lives here?” He asks more than he says, making the man even more weary of him.
“Does this person know you’re coming to see them?” The young man asks dismissively.
“No, but uh, I was hoping I could see them anyways? I just need to know what apartment they’re in if you don’t mind-” Bucky speaks but is cut off short by the young man with the name tag that reads “Adam.”
“Listen, man, you’re not the first shmuck to show up here, begging me to let them up to see their ex that they ‘need to make it up to.’ If she’s not answering her phone when you call, maybe that’s a sign you need to let that shit go, dude.” Adam tells him, looking at his phone screen.
“Hey, kid, listen. She’s not my girlfriend, but I do need to make it up to her. I fucked up, but we’re colleagues, and we have a project that we’re supposed to work on starting tomorrow, but I don’t think she’s gonna show. I-I just... I need to see her. Please.” Bucky’s about to get on the ground, but instead another idea pops into his head.
Just as Adam’s about to dismiss him again, Bucky pulls out his wallet.
He pulls out a crisp $20 bill, slipping is across the counter.
“Please?” Bucky’s voice is hanging on by a thread.
“Fine, man, this girl better be worth it, I could lose my job-”
“Yeah, yeah, get on with it. Her name’s Y/N Y/L/N.” Bucky says, waiting for the boy to type in the name.
“She’s in 10C. Good luck, bro.” He says, sitting back lazily in his spinning chair.
“Thanks,” Bucky can barely say before he clicks the button to call the elevator, hopping in and pressing on the 10 button.
He finds your place with quick ease, but he stands there for a few seconds, pondering. If he knocks, will you even answer? If you know that it’s him, will you open the door? What if you’re out, what if you went to grab coffee or something for Lucy? What if-
And before he could think even further, the door swings wide open, shocking Bucky.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Your voice was hoarse, like you hadn’t used it in days.
You looked... horrible, to say the least. But James was glad he was even looking at you right now.
“I-I we need to talk. Please.” He says, hoping you’ll hear him out.” Just give me five minutes. I’ll leave after that.” He pleads.
Wordlessly, you walk away from the door, leaving him just standing in your doorframe. He assumes this means you’re agreeing to the five minutes.
“Well?” You say, sitting back down on your couch, waiting for James to plead his case.
“L-Listen. I... I can’t even begin to explain to you how fucking sorry I am. I’m a complete idiot for thinking that kissing you was going to fix everything between us, for making you feel like I was trying to embarrass you by kissing you. I just- in the moment I thought it could’ve been the right thing to do, but after it happened I realized just how dumb I was to think that. And you have every right to be upset with me. Also... we still have to do our lessons together starting tomorrow, and I just wanted to know that we could still work together.”
You sat in silence, petting Lucy who was curled up into your side. You held a mug of coffee in your hand, watching James intently.
“Also, how did you know I was here?” He asks, brows furrowed.
You snort at the question, shifting in place.
“Adam called me to warn me that a very persistent man was coming up, and that if I needed to escape to go out the fire escape or the storage closet and hide.” You say, giving no indication as to how you were feeling.
“He may be easily swayed, but he’s not a complete idiot. But you... you are a complete idiot.” You tell him.
Bucky’s chest tightens in an uncomfortable way, in a way that makes him want to throw up his breakfast.
“Did you just come here to see if I was still going to work with you?” You ask, waiting to see what he’ll say.
“Well, that wasn’t the whole reason. I needed to know that you were alright. I hurt you, and I understand that. I also don’t expect you to forgive me, but I need you to know that I know I fucked up. I’m sorry I didn’t realize it right away. And I’m even more sorry for making you feel like you weren’t enough this past year. I guess...
I guess it was just my way, albeit childish, of coping with my feelings for you. When I first met you, I thought you were so beautiful, and I wanted to get to know you. But you were so quiet, and I just thought that was you rejecting me... So, I’m sorry. For everything Y/N.” James concludes. He stands up, moving towards your front door.
“James, wait.” Your meek voice rumbled out as you stood up.
“You... you did embarrass me. Borderline humiliated. You shouldn’t have acted that way with me, I’m worth more than that kind of behavior. That being said, I appreciate you coming here to try and work things through. I... I was so hurt. You hurt me so bad, James.” He opens his mouth to apologize yet again, but you shake your head, continuing.
“I liked you too. When I first met you, I thought you were so attractive. Intelligent, handsome, friendly. But then you started acting so... so different around me. I- I didn’t know what I’d done to make you so angry with me, enough to tear me down every chance you got. I was new, lost, fresh meat. But when you started saying those things, I was reconsidering my contract with AU. I appreciate the apology, but I’m going to need some time to process... whatever this is. Of course I’ll still do the lessons, but that doesn’t mean we’re buddy-buddy now, okay?” You finish.
He’s looking at you. It’s like there’s something more you want to say.
“I just... I- how do I know you’re for real? With all this, I mean. How do I know you’re really sorry?” You ask, finally letting it out, your voice crackling.
“Y/N... How about this; this week, while we teach together, let me make it up to you. Let me show you just how sorry I am, that I’ve really changed. Please, let me make it up to you.” Now, he’s literally on his knees in front of you.
Lo and behold, James Barnes. In front of you, on his knees. On the floor of your apartment.
“James, get up, please.” He promptly stands back up. “You have one week. One week to show me you’ve really changed, that you really mean what you’ve just told me. That’s all you get.” You tell him, staring at him.
“Okay. One week. I’m not gonna let you down, Y/N. I promise. You’re gonna see how sorry I am, I swear.” James says, slowly making his way out.
“Okay. I’ll see you at work tomorrow, Barnes.” You say, holding the door, ready to shut it.
“Here I was, thinking we were on a first name basis.” He jokes, already outside.
“Watch it, Barnes.” You put extra emphasis on his last name, shutting the door as he steps into the elevator.
As you turn back into your house, you look at Lucy, who’s watching you with big eyes.
“What the hell is he gonna do, Luce?” You ask, plopping back down onto your couch and mindlessly turning on the TV again.
You couldn’t even pay attention to it, just thinking of what this week will bring.

This tumblr thread reminded me of how I felt about Captain Marvel.
On the surface it's a fine Marvel movie with some flaws and a few funny jokes. On it's own it's too busy setting up Captain Marvel as a badass for Endgame that it fails to develop Carol Danvers as an actual character. The movie is almost afraid to give her a real personality outside of "action chick".
She gets some surface moments, but it never really embraces her as a person. She never really grows. She doesn't really have much of a reaction to her past and her heel-face turn comes far too quickly to feel natural.
The relationship between her and Nick Fury never really develops in a meaningful way. Instead she becomes almost a goddess to him as opposed to a friend. She becomes the inspiration for the avengers initiative but not someone that can be called upon for it outside of XK-class-end-of-the-world-scenarios. In far from home Peter gets scolded for even daring to mention her. In endgame She's just the quippy action chick who keeps everyone at arms length.
She's more of a mascot than a superhero at this point and her movie very much reflects this status. It doesn't delve into her as a person, it keeps her at arms length, and while as a Marvel movie it's decent, as a Captain Marvel movie it's not good.
