okay time for my magnus archives x genshin impact crossover au breakdown

in this au, each of the archons are split into two, typically their “human” selves and “demon” selves, for lack of a better word (so like, Barbatos and Venti are different). each of these selves are associated with a unique Entity at the highest level, they’re basically equivalent to the Entity’s Avatars for this au, but extra powerful since there’s only one per entity. these two halves collectively rule over a single element - except in the case of Hydro, which used to have only Focalors, except then Neuvillette was born awhile back and was taken up by an Entity, and then Furina had her Becoming (at the trial during Fontaine Act 5) and Became an Avatar as well so now it’s Focalors Neuvillette and Furina. Also, those from the Archon War… didn’t have a choice about it, let’s say.

vision holders are basically magnets for the Entities that are served by the associated archon, and they must feed their patron to use elemental power. except again each element has two Entities associated with it, so you have to feed the right Entity. You’ll know which by which Entity you fed when you got your Vision. In this au, Visions are commonly kept a secret and/or shunned.

So. I assigned Smirke’s Fourteen, plus the Extinction, to the Seven, their demon selves, and Neuvillette! Let’s have at it, shall we?

To Venti, I assigned the Web: the Spinner of Schemes, the Story Spinner, the Hidden Machination (perhaps for Venti ver, the Spinner of Ballads, the Timeless Machination, That Which Guides). I really couldn’t help myself mostly, the Web is my favorite concept so I had to give it to him. But also, I think it serves Venti’s role as one of the most hidden among the Seven, the purportedly asleep one, one who often sets things up but doesn’t like taking credit for it, the one who makes deals in the back with incredibly powerful players, and the one who puts the most importance in his ability to tell the stories. Also fits with sayings of Mondstadt like “let the wind lead” or “wind guide you” etc etc etc. Very much fits with corrupt Venti theories and theories about how Venti might end up controlled by Celestia. It also is fitting for an Anemo-aligned Entity imo as the wind reaches pretty much everywhere, there are no secrets hidden from the wind.

Some Web-aligned Anemo Vision holders would include the Wanderer, Jean, Lynette, Sucrose, Heizou, and Xianyun. I’ll put Yae Miko here instead of with either of the Electro Entities (and in this au, it means she would be an Anemo user!).

To Barbatos, I assigned the Coming End That Waits For All And Cannot Be Ignored. Of course, my theories of Barbatos as a death god are extremely strong, so I had to give it to him. Just like. Check my top posts to see why Barbatos is easily the god best fit for the End.

Some End-aligned Anemo Vision holders include Xiao (au Xiao’s karma is that the more he saves people from imminent death, the more likely someone he has met will die soon), Faruzan, Kazuha, and Sayu. Also Hu Tao, who fits the End better than either of the Entities assigned to Pyro.

To Zhongli, I assigned the Buried: Choke, Forever Deep Below Creation. Obviously, the Buried is associated with coffins, so I gave it to the guy who works as a consultant for a funeral parlor obviously. Then there’s the Buried’s association with financial debt and poverty, which works great for Zhongli who is just. A black hole of money spent on him by those around him. Also, the Buried’s got dirt and caves, so that’s more Geo associations for it. And then there’s also the idea of being stuck in a bad contract, so Zhongli gets to keep his contract associations.

Buried-aligned Geo Vision holders are: Navia, Itto, Noelle, and Kachina

To Rex Lapis/Morax, oldest among the Seven, I gave the Lonely. “Osmanthus wine is the same as I remember… but where are those who share the memories?” Need I say more? He is the one who remains, who has watched so many others erode and leave and change. Yes, I gave him Forsaken.

Lonely-aligned Geo Vision users include: Albedo, Chiori, Ningguang, and Yun Jin.

Note that I did not assign Xilonen anything as I don’t know her well enough yet

For Electro, I chose to separate Ei+Beelzebul’s era from Makoto/Baal’s. So Ei and Beelzebul have inherited their respective patrons from other gods (not necessarily Makoto+Baal’s) but their reign has been of the two of them, it’s not Ei and Makoto.

Okay, Ei is Flesh and Viscera. I think she has this thing going where she just sees herself im the Archon role as the bodily protector of Inazuma in the main storyline, and that’s why she feels it acceptable to step away mentally. She just thinks the only thing she needs to give is her flesh, and that’s why I assigned it to her.

Flesh-aligned Electro Vision users include Clorinde, Dori, Beidou, Razor… and that is it lol Flesh is hard to assign to. Maybe I don’t know some of the Electros well enough. Gah.

Beelzebul/the Raiden Shogun is the Slaughter. I don’t really know what else to say lol she is a creature that is pretty much exclusively known for going to war for Inazuma’s sake, she existed to be the fighter of the two, and even if we consider her rules, she’s so so ready to fight and show her dominance by drawing blood.

Slaughter-aligned Electro Vision users are Lisa, Shinobu, Cyno… and that’s it lol again even these were pretty much a stretch. I could reassign Shenhe here I guess it would also work for her. Yeah let’s do that, Electro Shenhe instead (I really wanted Lonely Shenhe though… rip).

Note: I have not assigned Sethos because I don’t know enough about him.

Nahida, she who Knows due to her giant database that is connected to her and her status as the Avatar of the world computer, she who Watches from within a million different dreams, is the Eye: the Beholding, the Ceaseless Watcher, It Knows You. Again I don’t really think this needs further explanation it’s very clear.

Eye-aligned Dendro Vision holders include Emilie, Tighnari, Haitham, and Baizhu.

Buer is the Vast. I think this is fitting for a god who can lose herself among various minds, who has never seen the world in all of how large it is for herself, and who also is extremely intimidated in regards to her ability to actually achieve something meaningful for her nation at first. Also fitting for the god of the Vast expanses of Sumeru, which in some cases are thick forest and others are barren desert.

Vast-aligned Dendro users include Kaveh (Ikik he’d be perfect for Choke but I think this works well too in terms of his determination to ig leave a legacy and his inability to believe in his own accomplishments), Yaoyao, Kirara, Collei, and Kinich.

Alright, to Hydro! Like I said earlier, this is a weird one. Let’s settle Neuvillette first, shall we?

To Neuvillette, who relentlessly prepares for a day when he can put all the Archons on trial and who condemns criminals in his spare time, I assigned the Hunt. Imo he would’ve taken up the Hunt about 400-500 years ago, when he came to the Court and first began acting as the Iudex.

Hunt-aligned Hydro Vision holders include Yelan, Kamisato Ayato, Candace, and Tartaglia (the bloodlust for him to be assigned to Slaughter hadnt settled in yet at the time of Vision gaining iirc).

For Focalors, the lone god of Hydro all these 500 years, I assigned the Stranger: I Do Not Know You. Straightforwardly I did this because she’s the only god who tries to pass off someone else as herself, but it fits well. Both have associations with theaters and performances. And Hydro is said to have the ability to take many shapes by Rhodeia, and Focalors herself was originally an Oceanid.

Stranger-aligned Hydro Vision holders include Fischl (!! Yup I didn’t forget about her), Kokomi, Sigewinne, Barbara, and Xingqiu.

To Furina, I assigned the Extinction: the Terrible Change, the Future Without Us. Of course, it’s the most recent Entity to emerge (just like how Furina is the most recent to take up an Entity - and that happened the moment she cries during the trial… meaning that in order for Fontaine to survive, she condemned herself to a terrible fate again, and has never been freed in this au), and it does not yet have any Vision holders for that reason.

All the entries from here on out will be aha… shorter.

Mavuika is the Desolation, the Lightless Flame. Frankly I couldn’t just like assign this to someone else (even though she totally could’ve swapped Furina for the Extinction), especially since the resurrection flame burning with Contending Fire in Natlan almost fails beneath Mavuika’s purview. I think it does fit well as a fear associated with hopelessness and the destruction left behind by senseless and continuous war (that perhaps Mavuika is leading everyone to..? I don’t know lol)

Desolation aligned Pyro Vision holders include: Diluc, Dehya (I think? Lol I know nothing about her), Bennett, Chevreuse, Gaming, and Klee.

The Pyro Archon, whatever their demon name is, is the Spiral: Es Mentiras, It Is Not What It Is. I based this off how the Spiral is associated with stuff similar to how those exposed to the Abyss break down.

Spiral-aligned Pyro Vision holders include Lyney, Yoimiya, Amber, Thoma, Yanfei, and I’ll throw in Xiangling, there’s nothing better for her. I’m also gonna throw in Mika, since he’s a tracker, so getting lost in those awful hallways sounds perfect for him (or maybe even dragging people in without realizing it? He can navigate it perfectly but he feeds the Spiral every time he does so and those who he guides often end up mad at the end).

The Tsaritsa is the Dark, which I based wholly off us not having seen her face yet XD also this I assigned last.

Dark-aligned Cryo Vision holders include Qiqi, Wriothesley, Freminet, Layla, Rosaria, and Charlotte.

The Cryo Archon is the Corruption, which I did because she’s apparently rebelling against Celestia (not that that is corrupt, but she did help out the Abyss to do it), and also due to the Corruption’s associations with unhealthy love (and she’s the Goddess of Love, or was at some point).

Corruption-aligned Cryo Vision users include Ayaka, Eula, Kaeya, Diona, and Chongyun.

Again, haven’t assigned Citlali because I don’t know her well enough

A second long lost parent appears and this is where I check out. I've made one small post before and I wasn't going to make another but for some reason I can't stop myself so here it is.

Go Ahead is good. I mean it is so good. I just finished episode 7. However, there's this pit in my stomach every time I watch it and honestly I don't really need that right now. To explain this I'm gonna get a bit personal so if you don't care just don't read.

My father left when I was in the womb. So that alone made this show right from the start perhaps too relatable for me. I'm a grown woman now and I don't think about it all that much to be honest but it's a whole other thing to have it shown back to me in series format.

Let me talk a little about episode 4.

This was when I knew I couldn't really binge this show. If I actually wanted to watched it all, I needed to take my time and choose wisely when to watch it.

See I have a half-sister, younger by about 12 years I think, from my father's side. I've met her exactly once, and after that, when I was in my twenties I got an email from my father saying his father had died and he made sure that in the same e-mail he made me feel like shit because apparently I didn't care enough about my sister to go see her or ask about her. Can you believe this shit? This was a man that left me and my mom, who I saw maybe 4 times total in my whole life and he had the audacity of putting that on me.

And the thing is, just like it's not Ling Xiao's sister fault, it's not my sister's fault. But to care about her would make my father happy and that was the last thing I wanted. So to see Ling Xiao have that exact same struggle was a lot.

Cause this is not an easy thing. This child has done nothing wrong. She's absolutely adorable, at first anyway, and wants a brother. Understandable. But it's what she represents. When Ling Xiao is helping her with homework, I can see him being completely split between wanting to be a good person, because he is, and not wanting to give his mother that satisfaction. This girl becomes an avatar and not just a little sister. There's a lot of reasons I've still haven't met my own sister, and really all the relatives from that side of the family, but one of the reasons I didn't at first, was that I didn't wanna project on her my issues with her father, because he was good to her. Why would I ruin that? And can I really separate things? At this age, probably, but at eighteen or in my twenties when I was first confronted with this? I'm not sure I could. I'm an expert in avoidance so we may never know. And that's what Ling Xiao is battling at that moment. He has a family, he has a sister, and although he understands on a rational level that this kid is his sister and he could have a relationship with her, there's just too much baggage to consider.

So after that I continued. I was only 4 episodes in and I honestly thought it was so well done. And I mean I did consider the possibility that this could happen again. God knows there's enough children abandoned in this show. But still I wanted to watch. The scene in episode 5 where Li Hai Chao is drunk and talking about his sons had me in tears. And those moments sustained me. Because this family is one of the most beautiful depicted families I think I ever watched. You can feel the love in every scene. I have my own 'brother' that I've known since I was 2 and that relationship got me through everything. So these 3 have my whole heart.

That is until the fried chicken in episode 7. Zi Qiu's father came back and I thought I was okay. Like it couldn't get any worse right? But then that whole scene with the guys eating the fried chicken and making absolutely stupid comments, and then Zi Qiu throwing it all on the floor and then... well pretty much everything in the episode after that...I was sobbing. It was a lot. I don't know about other people, but ever since I was a kid until I was in uni there was always a part of me that wondered. What if he came back? What if he had a good reason? Which is absolutely ridiculous cause eventually you realize there's actually no reason that would make up for everything. And Zi Qiu's father did come back and every time he opened his mouth, I wanted to scream at him.

The thing is. It's one thing to be over it, in this 'I don't really think about it a lot' kind of way. It's a whole other thing to willingly sign up for a reminder. Yeah I'm "over it" and I healed some but the scars are still there and I just don't need to be forced to look at them. I have enough triggers as it is and this is a long investment that I don't think I'm able to do right now.

I have absolutely no doubt this show holds up throughout, because this was a recommendation from @lurkingshan so I have no doubt about the quality. And maybe one day, when I feel more up to it I might try again but not right now. Maybe never. I'm not kind to myself enough as it is and it takes a lot for me to stop watching a show once I start. But this time I think I really can't do it. Maybe I will never watch it. And that's okay.

Bedroom wedding

It was the biggest event of the year. Your wedding with Xiao from 6breeze.

But hell rained down. Your cake was destroyed from the fans, the venue destroyed from the stampede, your dress ruined because the jealous Xiao fans dumped red wine down it, the police arresting every single fan of sixth breeze, a small fire that burned the wedding gifts. You were crying Xiao screaming bloody murder at the people who were getting arrested, he friends trying to calm him down, the officator confessing what he had done.

So how did it end up like this?

- a week before the wedding-

Sunday

'X-xiao?' You stuttered quietly.

'Yes?' He smiled as he looked over at you.

'My viewers have been b-bugging me to get a special g-guest on s-stream.' You said very anxious and nervous.

You were a vtuber. A very popular one. You little character was a cute human wearing a very adorable butterfly jacket.The character had a small septum piercing and a spider bite piercing. A pair of butterfly wings attached to your character. They were black and teal.

Xiao choose the colors off the wings awhile back when you choose to update your look.

He also drew the current models hairstyle.

'When?' He asked.

You looked at him surprised. You thought he'd reject the offer.

'Is tomorrow ok?' You asked.

He nodded.

He knew this was coming. It why he drew up a design as well. He had it set up too.

His avatar wore a giant black Hoodie, hair the same color as his, the avatar had cat ear with piercing going through them.

Monday

The next day came Xiao was in the shared room setting up his model. He got it set next to yours. He had another motion capture camera next to yours.

You were very nervous your stutter getting worse. Xiao started up the stream.

He whispered in your ear. You nodded calming down.

'Hi guys!'

He smiled as the stream went into a frenzy.

Tuesday

You were adding the finishing touches to you wedding dress. You were a seamstress when not streaming. You made your wedding dress by hand. Same with the brides maid dresses. Hand made.

Xiao knocked on the door.

'Yes?' You said. You had your days were the stutter didn't show up.

He entered the room.

'Hey I have some seats reserved for wangshu if you would like to have a date night.' He said scrolling through his phone. 'After that we can go to the new desert shop that just opened up.'

He looked up. God you looked so beautiful. Pin cushion on your wrist tongue slightly poking out revealing a tongue piercing. Your tongue peiricng glittering in the light. It had a small butterfly stopper something Xiao got for your anniversary. It was a matching one to his ear piercing.

You looked up.

'Sounds great...ow' you poked your finger.

Great seamstress bad habit of sewing with out looking.

'Put that down. Come on let's get going.' He said. You nodded putting everything away.

The date was nice. It was relaxing. You were able to iron out a few details.

Wednesday

You looked lumine. Something had happened and you were in full panic mode.

'B-b-b-but th-th-they said it would b-b-be here' You stuttered out. 'I-i-i need the arch h-here!'

'Its ok. I have kaveh working on something. The wedding is this Saturday. He says he'll have it done by Friday. All he asks is that you be patient. Hell do it free. Think of it as a gift.'

You nodded.

'Hey I know this a a multi million mora private wedding you'll pull this off. Besides what the worse that can happen? A few late guests.' She said patting your shoulder.

Oh how wrong she was.

Thursday.

You stared at the venue door. You weren't picky you really weren't, but you had a very very bad feeling. So you demanded extra security for Saturday. The wedding planner tried her best to assure you that it would be ok. After some convincing you dropped the subject.

Xiao ripped the wedding planner a new one that fateful day.

Friday.

You gasped. The arch was pretty. Kaveh smiled.

'From your reaction I take it you love it' He said. 'I looked at the original one and changed the design a bit.'

'Thank you' You said. 'I'll pay you.'

'Please don't. Think of this as a wedding gift.' He said smiling.

'But you had to rush to make it' You started but he cut you off.

'Please dont.' He said.

Friday evening

That night you and Xiao were at the hotel across the street from the venue. Your wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses in the changing room at the venue.

You stared at the building the feeling getting worse. Xiao was in the shower.

'Why won't it go away?' You asked quietly.

'Why won't what go away?' Xiao asked causing you to jump. 'Sorry.'

'Its f-fine' you said averting your eyes.

Xiao was out of the shower towel around his waist. His hair was still dripping.

You hid behind your hands.

'Youve seen it so many times' Xiao said small smile appearing. 'Why do you hide everytime?'

'I-i don't know' your voice muffled by your hands.

Xiao just smiled walking over to you. Wrapping his arms around your body he looked at the building.

'What feeling were you talking about' He asked.

'I asked for more security on Thursday. Wedding planner said not to worry about what they have is plenty. ' You said looking up at him. 'I have a bad feeling that this wedding is going to end in a disaster. We spent so much money on it. Lumine agreed with me on the security when I texted her.'

Xiao nodded pulling away.

'Ill see what I can do. Go shower.' He kissed the top of your head. 'And wear this.'

He gave you something. You looked at it then him.

Xiao was a man with very few demands but he knew what he wanted and when he wanted it.

You smiled.

'Ok.' You said closing the curtains heading for the bathroom.

Saturday.

It was the big.

You woke up first. You didn't have to be up till ten and it was currently seven thirty. Xiao sensing you awake woke up as well.

'What's wrong?' He asked pulling you close.

'The feelings back' you said sitting up slowly.

Xiao followed the action pulling you into his lap.

'I'll take care of it' He said.

You nodded.

'Lets sleep a little more' He said kissing your cheek.

You smiled at the thought.

'Huh?!' Your mom was here? You never gave her an invitation. 'But she threw me out at sixteen. I haven't spoken to her in over ten years! Who fucking spilled! I haven't spoken to my family in ten fucking years! Who fucking told her'

You were mad. No one answering lumine leaving to kick your mom out. The other girls scrambling to figure out how.

The make up artist made a face before she turned you to face her.

You kept silent lumine returning holding what looked like an invite.

'She says she bribed the mail man for this. Turns out she lives next to me.' Lumine said.

You made a noise. The make up artist looked at you smiling.

'And done. What do you think?' She asked holding up the hand mirror.

You had turquoise eye shadow, the wings small but big enough to suit your face nicely. The inner eye lid had a nice green.

'Wait...did you color match my fiance hair to do my makeup?' You asked.

She nodded.

'Thanks.' You said.

She smiled back as you handed her the check.

'Have a lovely day and heres to a long and happy marriage.

With that she left. Lumine approached you.

'Come on love, let's get you in the dress. Everyone else is waiting for you.' She smiled.

'Lumine. Your the best maid of honor' you said.

'Aw thanks love come on' She said pulling you up.

You looked around the room. A strange noise coming from outside. The whole room dead silent. The officator not talking.

'Xiao...somethings not right' you said.

Xiao nodded. He had called for extra security but he felt the same.

You both looked out the window just in time for something to shatter it. A girl climbed through. Suddenly windows started breaking more girls climbing through even boys. You looked on in horror then heard a Crack. Looking at the door you cursed yourself quietly as the door broke.

This was a private wedding. Yes it was the main event of the year but it was private. Only your fellow classmates from teyvat university were allowed.

'XIAO NO! YOUR MINE' a girl shrieked running towards you.

More followed.

Suddenly the whole building was over run by 6th breeze fans. Your guests scattered around trying to handle everything. You looked over at the gift table. Some fan had set it on fire. You looked at the cake just in time to see someone knock it over. Fans grabbing bottles of wine. They ran toward you opening them. Xiao was suddenly carried off. You watched as the fans dumped the wine on you. You were in shock you just let them.

Aether, kazuha, kazuha fiancee rin, lumine, tighnari, and ganyu were on their phones calling for the police. Itto was trying to put the fire out with kuki and yan fei. Zhongli was prying girls off Xiao with venti scaramouche and cyno. Dehya was tackling the girls who had dumped red wine on your dress.

All of your guests were trying to get the entire thing under control.

You started crying the banquet of flowers falling from your hands so you could cover your face.

It went dead silent everyone looking at your shaking figure. You fell to the ground.

There you sat on the ground.

'I have something to confess.' The officator said. 'I- in my excitement- may have leaked the location and time'

You sobbed harder.

It was ruined. Three and a half million mora down the drain. Three and a half million mora you couldn't get back. All because some dumb ass decided to leak the location.

Soon the police arrived. They came in big numbers having been told what the situation was and how bad it was. Without a glance they started handcuffing the fans. Xiao had managed to escape the girls and run to your side. He tried his best to comfort you. Your wedding planner next to him.

He stood up and looked at her.

'Thanks to you trying to convince my fiancee that it was safe we now have no wedding ceremony! If you had just shut up and done something about her feelings we wouldn't be in this situation!' He began.

The wedding planner trying to utter an explanation but he wasn't having it. 'Don't you start I have her word. Next time someone says something you listen. And you!'

He turned to face the fans. Aether kazuha scaramouche, heizou and venti trying to calm him down.

'You are all insane! Your my fans?! Last I checked they don't make my fiancee cry! They don't destroy a wedding ceremony, they don't ruin a dress my fiancee spent two years working on. You will be hearing from my lawyers and you will be paying the damages.'

Xiao bent down scooping you up.

'Wedding is off. Someone call the cleaners tell them I'll pay them double if they can clean up this mess. I'll triple it if its too much.' He said walking away with you in his arms.

You were still crying. Xiao did his best to calm you down. He walked across the street to the hotel.

You were in the middle of the bathroom Xiao undoing the dress. It was stained from all the red wine.

'There we go' He said undoing the zipper. The dress fell off your body slowly. Xiao prepped the shower as you stood there.

The only thing that could be salvage was the garter. It was white with a turquoise flower sewn on it.

You removed it dropping it next to the dress. Xiao stared at you. You were a mess. Eyes red, make up running hair in a loose messy bun. You smelled of wine.

'Come here love' He said.

You approached him slowly. He hugged you.

'Let get you out of these and in the shower' you nodded doing as said while he stripped down.

You stood under the shower head crying quietly. Xiao hugging you trying his best to comfort you.

That night you slept breathing uneven. Xiao scrolling on his phone one hand one your back.

New of the wedding made it, news of your face being revealed to be the famous blind butterfly vtuber, news of your agency cutting ties with you due the incident, news of Xiao loosing his cool.

So he went of social media calling out his 'fans' the wedding planners company, the vtuber agency.

*I want to give a very big FUCK YOU to the people involved in today's disasters. Thanks to you I now have an inconsolable fiancee who won't stop crying. She not only lost her dream wedding but has also lost her vtubing career. Her streaming days are now over because you couldn't keep the picture off the internet. The officator is stupid for having leaked the location of my private wedding. The wedding planner for not listening to my baby girl. I'm beyond pissed. You don't crash a private event. You definitely don't pour wine down someone's significant other. That dress was coming in at a million mora. Trust me she had an official dress designer take a look at it. That was two years of work down the drain. Two year of work only for me to see her in it for an hour. You will be paying for the damages. You will make an apology to my fiancee and it better be a sincere apology. I'm canceling the meet and greet as a punishment to those who caused this disaster.*

He watched as the media went wild. 6th breeze sharing his post. The guests reposting it. Fans pleading begging him to not cancel the meet and greet. The vtuber agency you were signed with responding to the post stating you had broken an agreement in your contract. Xiao called bs doing what he could to save your favorite thing in the world.

Eventually he went to sleep pulling your figure close.

Morning came and you had your dress on the hanger.

Xiao had woken up because your side was cold. He sat up spotting you on the ground. You had several bottles of cleaner next to you. You were dabbing at the red stain trying to get it out. Tears stained your cheeks a bunch of tissues surrounding you all red. But the damage was to big for you to clean.

Xiao slipped off the bed quielty approaching you. He sat next to you grabbing a tissue to help you. You thanked him quietly. He just nodded and started dabbing at the dress.

'I don't even know if the dry cleaners can save this. I had the dress design in my art book for years! Now it's ruined.' You said.

'Yes my time to shine.' She said. 'I can clean this. It'll be a couple days. But I can get this cleaned off and looking like it just came off the shelf.'

Xiao did as told then left. He walked up to the car and entered.

'She says she can rescue the dress.' He heard you sigh in relief. 'Would you...like to get something to eat?'

Initial thoughts on the Natlan characters now that I've had the day to simmer on them

Disclaimer: I am white. I figured I should make that clear. I just want to get my thoughts out there.

In general, I think the more modern look is very unique and something we haven't seen in Genshin Impact before, but they do feel kind of safe. They're very vibrant too, which fits all the color we've seen from the Natlan previews. Unlike a lot of the Fontaine designs initially there's few I actively dislike, but perhaps they'll grow on me, like many characters have. They just sorely need some melanin given the cultures Natlan takes inspiration from.

Ranking each character we've seen individually based on my initial impressions, from best to worst, under the cut (pictures included).

1. Xilonen

Out of everyone in the teaser she immediately caught my eye. The jaguar (or possibly other big cat) theming (as well as being a proper catgirl) and image of her lounging in a tree, bathing in sunlight gives off a sense of power. Kind of like a real big cat! But you guys probably know I tend to like the tall women a lot.

2. Mavuika

I think a lot of people, myself included, expected the Pyro Archon to be a Himeko expy and/or light-skinned. And well, she seems to be both of those. The leaks of the Pyro Archon in a conquistador outfit did have me worried given real world history, but I'm very relieved to see that isn't the case.

Seeing her in a bodysuit when I first opened YouTube did have me puzzled at first, but seeing the full outfit really brings it together. Hoyo does put a lot of research into things, so I'm interested to see any analyses on her design, too!

And the sunglasses are peak. From what I've seen it's a controversial design element, but I think it really adds to her character. She really seems like a friendly archon all around. I wonder how "war" plays into all of this.

She's also the first archon without dark or white hair--it's just straight up red. Which makes me hope she'll change up the common tropes archons tend to have (please i don't want the two archons plotline for the 4th nation in a row). is really I really liked the flame hair concepts from her leaked designs, so it's nice to see we still got that in some form here.

3. Kinich

Kinich has a pretty cohesive design, and the color palette is pretty pleasing to look at, too. But I can definitely see the Xiao comparisons. I hope his personality makes him stand out from him.

The most perplexing thing about him though is how his design focuses a lot around pixels--Ajaw is a pixel dragon. The Sumeru Dendro characters do have their computer/tech themes (Alhaitham and Nahida especially, the latter of which is Irminsul's avatar), but this seems a little...much. Even when considering Natlan characters have more modern designs.

Taking the "Teyvat is a simulation" theory (and similar) in mind, I feel like Ajaw is going to play into that. Or they're just a pixel dragon because Hoyo thought it would be cool.

4. Mualani

Her design makes me think she was originally designed with a darker skin tone, but late in the development process someone told the designer to make her skin lighter, so we got the tan she has today.

Honestly her and Kinich are pretty close, probably interchangeable. But the main thing that bothers me are the orange highlights on her hair. They're a little off-putting.

But overall, I think her design is cute! As a character I get the impression she's going to be chill. Like "girl next door" vibes.

5. Iansan

I really don't have much to say given we've seen her before, and I didn't have much to say back then either. I do hope they give her a good amount of focus given she is a Teyvat Travail character, and I think they will, given it's a pattern they haven't broken. But Hoyo does like breaking patterns... I'd rather be optimistic, though.

Iansan is, however, the first character on this list we don't know the element for. I remember thinking initially she would be Geo, but now we know of two Geo characters, surely they won't have three Geos in the Pyro Nation, right?

I think she's most likely to be Pyro, but I've seen people throw around Electro too since I heard she's named after a lightning spirit. It would make sense--she has a lot of purple in her design. But I'd like to throw out my wild guess that she's Dendro. Why? Well, her eyes are the Dendro green, and if she isn't, then it's impossible for every element to be represented by a Teyvat Travail character. And I highly doubt Pulcinella is going to be Dendro.

6. Ororon

yeah that sure is a genshin character. cool cape though.

He's probably important given he's with Capitano of all people. Maybe he's a Fatuus, but I don't see any Fatui symbol on him. It would be nice to have more playable Fatui.

One thing I'm noticing just now is that he has heterochromia. Hoyo doesn't give out heterochromia willy-nilly. Definitely a mysterious character for sure.

As for element I'm pretty sure he's Anemo with how prominent teal is in his design. If that's true, he'll be our first tall Anemo man! Only took four years...

I am curious about his name, though. It every other language his name is Olorun. I wonder if the misspelling in English is intentional, or if it was just a localization error.

7. Kachina

She's cute...but that's really all she has going for her. I will say, though, the big fluffy ears are unique.

8. Citlali

The only reason she's at this spot is because of what we've seen of her personality so far. I can't think of a particularly hot-tempered female character in Genshin, and I think she might fulfill that niche.

But her design... I think the main thing that bogs it down is the dull pink color used for her hair. With the light skin tone she has it's kind of clashing. It's nice to see another character get colored eyelashes, at least.

I...really don't know how to put my dislike of her design in words. I don't think she's the worst design in Genshin, but she's far down there.

9. Chasca

I'll be honest she just feels like Natlan Clorinde. She stands out from her as a distinct character, but they still give off the same vibe.

I like her design better than Citlali, I will give her that. She just feels kind of boring compared to everyone else.

There are a few small details that are neat--the shoulder mole, textured eyebrows, elf ears... But yeah. She'd really have to impress me to make me want to pull her.

So yeah, those are my thoughts. I think this will be fun to look back on later down the line, when Natlan's story is done and we've gotten to know these characters better.

I am excited to see where the story goes, but honestly I'm more excited for the exploration than anything else. It looks super fun, and I can't wait to finally get my hands on the Saurians.

Yang Xiao Long vs. Akihiko Sanada (RWBY vs. Persona)

RWBY's heavy hitter and Persona's bruising boxer duke it out!

(I wanted to use "electric emperor", but Kanji Tatsumi can also be called that)

Fighter 1: Yang Xiao Long, the blazing dragon from RWBY.

Fighter 2: Akihiko Sanada, the specialist boxer of Persona's SEES.

Wiz: We may lose our loved ones to events out of our control, but that only leads us down a path to finding a new family to look after and care for.

Boomstick: And the best way to do it is by saving the world through punching! He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.

PREFACE:

We had Weiss vs. Mitsuru as an actual episode and Yates did a commission for Penny Polendina vs. Aegis, so why not our hard-hitting punching people? P.S., Don't think I hate RWBY. I just love the idea of certain RWBY characters fighting, nay, interacting with other fictional characters that are similar to them, especially if they have some sort of connection through crossovers.

WHY:

Connections:

1. Both fight via boxing and punching.

2. Both lost family members that served as motivation for their actions. Yang lost her stepmom and was abandoned by her birth mother, which led to a rough childhood for Yang, resulting in her thrill-seeking lifestyle (essentially living her childhood later on as she couldn't do it as a kid). Akihiko's sister died when they were both young and his best friend Shinjiro died, but he steeled his resolve which led to his Persona's growth. You can also add in Blake leaving Yang.

3. Both have a specific trait that they don't exhibit much but are now seen as the chore trait of their personalities due to side material. Those are their passions for puns and protein respectively.

4. Funnily enough, both have powerful connections to a younger sister (Ruby and Miki respectively).

Personal reasons: I'll be blunt, I want this to be another Balrog vs. TJ Combo. I think it could work, but the only other way I see this match starting would be an encounter similar to those of Tartarus, the Yellow Trailer, or Yang's interactions with Shay. What I want the most from the fight is for them to compliment each other's physical strength, treating the fight first like a friendly spar and then turning up the heat (like All Might vs. Might Guy). The encounter could happen in the open since both have a history of wandering in search of something (Yang would be on her bike, and she has searched for info on her mom and Akihiko traveled the world, searching to become stronger), which would come into play in the Notable Events. If Akihiko is shown in his P4A model, I'd want him to use his knife, but it'll likely not happen. I also want some lighting and hothead puns, and I think the golden colors of Yang's Blaze and golden colors will complement Caesar's blue and violet lighting as well as Aki's scarlet and black clothes.

THE FIGHT:

Art and animation: This one will either be 3D like Weiss vs. Mitsuru. It could also be a 2D fight like a potential BBCTB fight, but I think they'll go with the former because all RWBY fights (as of me writing this) have been in 3D so they could distinguish themselves from BBCTB. I think the animation from All Might vs. Might Guy or even Blake vs. Mikasa could work with the CQC involved, but the former is the better option.

Possible setup:

OPTION A: They're part of a tournament like the Yang vs. Bakugo DBX (Yang would look like she did in Vol. 1-3 and Aki would look like he did in P3 for some reason) or a boxing match a la Balrog and TJ Combo, or even Heihachi vs Geese. The prize is cash, which Yang wants for her bike and Aki wants for equipment, be it for boxing or the Tartarus quests. Or ramen.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! Introducing our fighters! In one corner, you have the blazing sunny dragon from Beacon, the fiery and explosive Yang Xiao Long! On the other, Gekkougan High's boxing captain, the shocking protein junky, Akihiko Sanada!" The announcer mumbles, asking someone near him whether or not this is the chick that broke a kid's leg even after she won a tournament match, but quickly gets back into the job.

Yang: "You better not go easy on me."

Akihiko: "Same to you, blondie."

They walk back to their corners and prepare themselves.

OPTION B: They encounter out in the open, likely in an urban scene like the Kingdom of Vale or Tatsumi Port Island. Yang is riding her bike, searching for something, be it info or thrills. However, a screaming man falls in front of her and she swerves out of the way, only to find more people falling out of the sky. She hopes to find the source of the commotion and see Aki punching out thugs. She speeds in, excited and ready for a fight.

LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!/FIGHT! :

1. If the fight starts with Option B, then Yang enters like in Vol. 6's fight against Adam, so away goes her bike! Aki notices, and either punches away the vehicle or dodges out of the way. Yang skydives in, reeling in a punch. Aki prepares his own strike, and BOOM!

2. They both relish the combat. Their competitive natures lead them to be ever so slightly boastful, but they'll complement each other's power.

3. Akihiko summons Caesar and lightning is launched. Yang makes puns as a result: "Well, that was shocking."

4. Yang uses Ember Celica and Aki dodges.

5. Combos from BBCTB and P4A/U.

6. Yang takes advantage of both their up-close approaches and uses her bombs. The explosives catch Aki off guard.

7. Eventually, a strand of Yang's hair falls, and she notices. She thusly activates Blaze, and Aki is in awe of the increase in firepower (ba-dum-tss), even if momentarily, but he then embraces the challenge and rises to the occasion. "Bring it on!".

8. The ending is a clash of fists like in the cover of Brandon Yates's Blazing Fury, and it would pay homage to the Yellow Trailer and Akihiko's one-hit KO from the Arena games. If it's option A, then the arena, the spectators, and the announcer are blown away (ba-dum-tss) by the impact, and the winner is left standing, panting, and tired. However, they thank the loser for the fun and challenge. I want the winner to take one of the loser's weapons as a memorandum, but I don't think it'd be in character.

RESULT:

Strengths and weaknesses:

Yang:

+ Blaze allows for strength increase

+ Has ranged weaponry

≥ Has slight versatility due to her kicks and weapons

≥ Likely has longer experience due to her training under Taiyang

≥ Can likely dodge Caesar's lightning if scaled to Mercury

- Aura takes a long time to recharge

- Cannot activate Blaze without Aura

- Cannot exploit any weakness

Akihiko:

+ Caesar can quickly recharge if broken

+ Stronger and more durable

+ Has greater support due to Caesar's support spells like Power Charge

+ Has faced more dangerous opponents in Straega, the Full Moon Shadows, and the Red Fog clones.

= Can likely keep up with Yang as he has avoided lightning attacks

Ending puns:

"Don't Celica short; Akihiko went out in Blaze of glory."

"Yang was handed a defeat and Akihiko Caesar (see-zar) victory."

I wanted to use "got beaten to the punch" but Roshi vs. Jiraya had that as a punch line. Dio vs. Alucard used the "owned" punch line like Mario vs. Sonic 2018 but then added to it.

MUSIC:

Name: "Beat You To The Punch"

The title makes reference to Yang's love of puns and both their primary methods of fighting.

Art: The art would depict the two arm wrestling, Yang's arm blazing and Aki's having lightning coursing about it. There could be a Strawberry Sunrise with Caesar's sword in it in the background.

Sound: I Burn + Mass Destruction. The beginning is MD but with a rock vibe, and the climax has I Burn, like in Yang vs. Mercury.

Another fascinating idea, but sadly, one I can't really give my opinion on. First, I'm not familiar with Persona (Saw bits of 4 and 5 and that's it). Second, after the last Death Battle, I'm hesitant to pit RWBY against them, since Persona characters seem a bit... OP compared to RWBY.

Still, I will honor your submission with at least this...

On the one hand, I feel Yang may have an edge with her kickboxing, bombs, AND durability compared to Weiss.

However, Persona also has, well, personas, which kinda give an unfair edge over their opponents (like a stand VS a regular person). Then again, I don't know the exact details.

Still, I like the idea you brought up.
