Twenty years ago, I posted a tribute to Rick Rude and his patented finishing move -- the Rude Awakening -- on my Wrestling Arsenal website. My gallery included the "Awakening" of this sexy jobber, Billy Woods.

I was not able to locate that particular bout, with Woods in the tiger-striped trunks, to create an animation of Rude's deadly Finisher. However, I did find a different Woods-Rude match on YouTube. Same handsome jobber, different neck-breaker...

Chapter 2: Blind Rage

(Trigger warning: This post contains extreme brutality and maiming. Viewer discretion is advised.)

Our Americanized version of this violent Japanese graphic novel continues with the champion, whom I've named "Rattlesnake Drake," beginning to dominate the young fan favorite I'm calling "Teddy Valor." One of my loyal readers sent me these images years ago and I recently found time to overwrite the Japanese text with my own English commentary and post the updated images here.

I appreciate the artist for drawing both fighters in black trunks and boots (I love the classic pro look). So far, we've seen the Rattlesnake putting his tall boots to good use, repeatedly kicking young Teddy in the head, followed up now with a big haymaker.

Teddy collapses against the steel cage, leaving visible wounds on his handsome face. Now that he is dazed and helpless, we see the brutal Rattlesnake drag him up by the hair, as depicted in this full-page close-up. This is getting sadistic now (and I'm digging it!)

The sadistic brute presses and grinds Teddy's face into hamburger against the fencing -- a staple of violent cage matches actually. Then Teddy finds his eyeball approaching a barb wire spike. This ain't your grandad's Steel Cage Match!!

Now keep in mind, one advantage of comic books over "real" wrestling is that the most violent acts can be portrayed purely for fantasy, without any real humans actually being harmed.

Whoa-- was this brutality actually intended for impressionable youngsters? Or was this drawn as pornography for adults with violent fetishes? Hopefully the latter -- this shit is DARK!

I guess we shouldn't judge. Here in the USA, plenty of bloody cage matches involving real people (not just drawings) have been viewed by minors -- including myself as a horny teen. And look how I turned out...

Saturday Scissor Series

In the Tiger Mask animated series (1968-1971), the titular hero's boyfriend, handsome young Ken, is defeated by the evil White Tiger as our hero looks on in impotent frustration. The defeat of Ken is remarkably brutal, especially in a cartoon meant for kids.

This YouTube video depicts the unusual (and sexually suggestive) Hanging Headscissor used by the White Tiger to finish off poor Ken.

Back in 2011, I posted screen captures of this same pivotal match on my old Wrestling Arsenal blog in a 3-part series:

In Part 1, the cruel White Tiger busts Ken's balls, then repeatedly gut-punches him until he bleeds internally.

In Part 2, Ken endures significant leg punishment and is blinded when his eyes are dragged across the ring ropes.

In Part 3, the White Tiger chokes Ken out with the awesome Hanging Headscissor depicted in the video posted above.

Let's take a closer look at one frame from the graphic novel, posted earlier today, with an updated caption. In the foreground, we see the rookie -- "Teddy Valor" -- in a submissive position with his girlish long hair spilling over his shoulders. He gazes up at the hyper-masculine Heel, "Rattlesnake Drake." Their bodies are idealized as Greek gods, with huge bulging biceps and abs like washboards. The sexual tension is implied in Drake's clenched fists and in their straining muscles. Their black trunks and boots (and their positioning inside a cage) only add to erotic tone.

Below is the original image as sent to me by my loyal reader, so you can see the edits I've made. If anyone can read Japanese, maybe you can translate the text and let us know what's really going on in this scene. Is it as gay as it seems?

Caged Heat: A Wrestling Manga

Chapter 1: First Blood

Several years ago, one of my loyal readers sent me this violent Japanese wrestling manga. We see a cute young hero in the cage with a brutal Heel having a 70's porn stache. I don't know all the details because the original text is in Japanese, which I can't read.

I finally found the time to update this comic book for my English-speaking audience, replacing most of the Japanese characters with English text. I tried to imagine what the wrestlers and ringside commentators might be saying during this vicious brawl -- see what you think.

The Heel brutality ensues right after the bell. There is no space in this comic book for any needless Babyface Shine! The young fan favorite, "Teddy Valor" as I've named him, is blatantly choked, then kicked in the jaw -- his skull crashing into the cage frame (which happens to be wrapped in barbed wire.)

Whoa, I think whoever drew this manga likes it rough! Contact me if you're the artist -- I've got some twisted thoughts for the sequel!

The blood starts to flow as the Champ slams his thigh into young Teddy's face. This youngster won't be so pretty after Rattlesnake Drake is done with him!

I posted a tribute gallery to Rick Rude and his devastating neckbreaker on my original Wrestling Arsenal website 20 years ago today. That gallery, titled "A Rude Awakening," featured a number of screen-captures (including the one posted here) showing Rude snapping his opponents' necks.

Now that I'm able to create Animated GIFs, I decided to revisit these scenes to show these Rude Awakenings in motion. Here is Rude finishing off Lanny Poffo, who sells the brutal move beautifully.

Man oh man. Even 20 years later, Rude still does it for me.

Eddie Gilbert faced jobber Davey Haskins in a Best-of-3-Falls contest on the 2/19/1985 episode of Championship Wrestling. Haskins had the audacity to pin Gilbert in the second fall, which is why Gilbert is pissed off and totally destroying the jobber as seen here in the third fall.

He pulls Haskins up by the hair to slam a good half-dozen Jumping Knee Strikes into his skull. Rather than pin the man, Gilbert drags his ragdoll up on the Two Count for more abuse. Then things really get brutal!

The match is over, "Hot Stuff" has triumphed, but he is still not done humiliating David Haskins.

Eddie Gilbert was far ahead of his time when it comes to sexy Heel dominance, even dragging his opponent out of the arena to the parking lot! It's winter and there's a foot of snow on the ground. Shirtless and exposed, the jobber is made to roll in the cold snow before having his face spiked onto a parked car!! Now THIS is the sort of jobber punishment and humiliation that really trips my trigger!
