Avatar [of the Vast] Archetrope
Tumblr media
A flag for archtropers whose archetrope is an avatar of the Vast from the Magnus Archives.
This color pallette has been sitting in a folder. For years. Waiting for the moment to torture my fellow vastards with REVELATION.

I’m so obsessed with how Martin Blackwood casts himself as Pylades/Horatio/Samwise Gamgee, deciding early on that his role within the narrative is to Be There for Jon as he descends into tragedy and that he can’t really affect the narrative otherwise. He doesn’t fully consider the consequences of his actions because he’s so confident that he doesn’t matter enough to impact the events around him. He hurts people because he doesn’t think he has the power to hurt people. His fatal flaw is his absolute conviction in his own unimportance. WHAT a character

I just want to know what is this obsession with some ATLA fans on making Katara "The Mom"? She's 14. We start with Aang saying she is just a kid so what on Earth is this weird take?

More about the archetypes under the cut!
Taken from "Writing 101: All the Different Types of Characters in Literature".
Characters in a work of fiction can usually be grouped into archetypes. These archetypes have been categorized by Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, the American literary theorist Joseph Campbell, and generations of authors, screenwriters, and storytellers. Here are the 12 commonly discussed character archetypes:
1. The Lover: the romantic lead who’s guided by the heart. Their strengths include humanism, passion, and conviction. Their weaknesses include naivete and irrationality. Some famous lovers are Romeo, Juliet, and Scarlett O’Hara.
2. The Hero: the protagonist who rises to meet a challenge and saves the day. Their strengths are courage, perseverance, and honor. Their weaknesses include overconfidence and hubris. Some famous heros are Achilles, Luke Skywalker, and Wonder Woman
3. The Magician: a powerful figure who has harnessed the ways of the universe to achieve their goals. Their strengths may include omniscience, omnipotence, and discipline, while their weaknesses center on corruptibility and arrogance. Prospero, Gandalf, Morpheus, and Dumbledore are famous magician characters.
4. The Outlaw: the rebel who won’t abide by society’s demands. The outlaw can be a bad guy, but not always. The outlaw’s strengths include independent thinking and skepticism. Their weaknesses may include self-involvement and criminality. Among the famous outlaws are Han Solo, Dean Moriarty, and Humbert Humbert.
5. The Explorer: a character naturally driven to push boundaries and find what’s next. Their strengths: They are curious, driven, and motivated by self-improvement. They are weak in that they are restless, unreliable, and never satisfied. Famous explorers include Odysseus, Sal Paradise, and Huckleberry Finn.
6. The Sage: a wise figure with knowledge for those who inquire. Strengths of the sage include wisdom, experience, and insight. In terms of weakness, the sage may be overly cautious and hesitant to actually join the action. A few famous sages: Athena, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Hannibal Lecter (an evil sage).
7. The Innocent: a morally pure character, often a child, whose only intentions are good. Their strengths range from morality to kindness to sincerity. Their weaknesses start with being vulnerable, naive, and minimally skilled. Famous innocents are Tiny Tim, Lennie Small, Cio-Cio-San.
8. The Creator: a motivated visionary who creates art or structures during the narrative. Their strengths include creativity, willpower, and conviction. Their weaknesses include self-involvement, single-mindedness, and lack of practical skills. Famous creators include Zeus, Dr. Emmett Brown, and Dr. Moreau.
9. The Ruler: a character with legal or emotional power over others. The ruler’s strengths include omnipotence, status, and resources. Their weaknesses include aloofness, being disliked by others, and always seeming out of touch. Famous rulers include Creon, King Lear, and Huck Finn’s Aunt Sally.
10. The Caregiver: a character who continually supports others and makes sacrifices on their behalf. Among their strengths, caregivers are honorable, selfless, and loyal. Among their weaknesses, they lack personal ambition or leadership. Sometimes they even lack self worth. Famous caregivers include Dolly Oblonsky, Calpurnia, and Samwell Tarly.
11. The Everyman: a relatable character who feel recognizable from daily life. When it comes to strengths, they are grounded, salt-of-the-earth, and relatable. In terms of weaknesses, they typically lack special powers and are often unprepared for what’s to come. Famous everymen: Bilbo Baggins, Leopold Bloom, Leslie Knope.
12. The Jester: an intentionally funny character who provides comic relief but may also speak important truths. Strengths include the ability to be funny, disarming, and insightful. Weaknesses include the capacity to be obnoxious and superficial. Famous jesters range from Sir John Falstaff to King Lear’s Fool to George’s parents in Seinfeld.

ATLA Phantom of the Opera AU
I know the knee jerk reaction is to make Zuko the phantom because of his face, but if you think about the themes and characterization, consider:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jet honestly is perfect for this trope.
Both characters were orphaned at a young age and forced to fend for themselves
Both are poor commonfolk who are mistreated and disadvantaged by their societies and rebel against the people in power as a result
Both operate by knowing their environments well and using it to their advantage, they fight against more powerful forces by being resourceful and working in the shadows
Both have obsessive personalities and are fine with hurting innocent bystanders (for the greater good, in their minds) if it means getting their way
Both have good intentions that they take too far
Both ultimately are driven mad by their obsession with seeking revenge and end up causing catastrophes in which they harm innocent people in their attempts to strike back at the powerful people who harmed them

thoughts,,, abt the cowboy as american mythology vs the reality, per chance,,,
#ooc;; mun barks#//to be deleted;#it swims in my head time to time but i think i shld sit down n organize my thoughts abt it#n i suppose i wld also talk abt it in regards to rdr2 n rdr1 bc they both share/embody commentaries on the western genre#particularly rdr2 takes a shining to the cowboy imagery w Knights#Men upon horseback with some sense of Noble Honor etc etc while peeling back the veil of it to the men beneath#but then here is cole cass/idy n how i want to convey the part of that mythology of rugged individualism while he is also-#part of this organization that has a nasty habit of mythologizing its people – while he himself to me#represents an avatar of People - the everydays person - the boy scraped up from nowhere;#n how he will Defy this mythologization for better or for worse; always the homeless homebody stranger#too imperfect to be made immortal bc he refuses convention n facade#bc part of this blog is stabbing fingers into what is this archetype n masculinity n i suppose what it is in my lens :///#but also smthing abt the fact that ppl dont think cowboys still exist 💀💀 that they remain#some storybook piece in movies n novels–#there's a lot to UNPACK tho cos i do also relate the gratuitous VIOLENCE in the old west proper n its depictions in westerns to#its normalcy n mundanity in COLE's life n how he receives it as such - that he's not necessarily#haunted by killing bc he grew up w it being a normalcy; kill or be killed was apart of his life n he - really doesnt blink twice abt it

Avatar [of the Lonely] Archetroper
Tumblr media
A flag for archetroper's whose archetrope is an Avatar, specifically an Avatar of the Lonely.
Had a colour palette, didn't like the colours. So I made my own to properly represent london fog rolling beneath the grim rainy sky. (The palette I had saved had. REALLY bright colours.)

It’s interesting to note the similarities between atla/lok and dragon age: absolution. It has a similar appeal and similar weaknesses. It sets up an interesting premise and draws frustrating, reductive conclusions to villainize radicalism and (this is particularly a lok thing) inspire sympathy for figures of authority 😑

Toxisches Material, was uns insgeheim davon abbringt, all dem Guten weiterzufolgen, was die Menschheit bislang hervorgebracht hat.
