So idk if I’m missing something, but I’ve been learning more about cars and I looked up how to change my spark plugs, and I think I could totally do that…… I know the one thing is you want to be careful not to crossthread or break them bc then you can get into some deep doodoo depending on how bad it is, but that’s pretty avoidable if you’re careful in certain ways.
It’s the difference of like $30 if I do it vs the $460 the shop quoted me - fucking ridiculous, and I need a bunch of other work done on my car too that I know I mostly can’t do myself (yet 😈). I’m so tempted to just do this myself, it’s not a huge ordeal at all and I’d really like to learn more about doing car stuff on my own as it is so I can go to the mechanic less and therefore spend (way) less. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to learn to do an oil change and the like. Tbh it feels so wrong partially just since I’m a woman lol - it’s so dumb and normally I don’t feel affected by gender roles like this, but for some reason this one is ground in so deep that it’s not my territory and I “can’t” understand. But that just makes me want to do it all the more!
But car people - am I missing something big that makes this much harder than it looks?… The spending difference is so insane, it seems too good to be true. I don’t want to be hasty and fuck something up but I’m really struggling to find a reason why not to go ahead with it. And my spark plugs are reallyyyyy needing it at this point.

Ford GT40
The Ford GT40 is one of the most iconic cars in automotive history, renowned for its dominance in endurance racing during the 1960s. Here's the full story:
Origins:
In the early 1960s, Henry Ford II, known as "Hank the Deuce," was determined to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world's oldest active sports car race. Enzo Ferrari had rebuffed Ford's attempt to buy the Italian company, which led to Ford's determination to defeat Ferrari on the racetrack.
Development:
Ford tasked its newly acquired subsidiary, Ford Advanced Vehicles, with developing a car capable of winning Le Mans. The project was named GT (for Grand Touring) with the intention of building 100 road cars to homologate it for racing. Carroll Shelby, who had been involved in motorsports and had success with the Shelby Cobra, was brought in to manage the racing program.
GT40 Mark I:
The first iteration of the GT40, known as the Mark I, debuted in 1964. It was powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine and showed promise but faced reliability issues.
GT40 Mark II:
Ford made significant improvements with the Mark II, featuring a 7.0-liter V8 engine, and refined aerodynamics. In 1966, Ford achieved its goal when the GT40 Mark II, driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, marking the first time an American car had won the prestigious race outright.
GT40 Mark III:
In 1967, Ford introduced the GT40 Mark III, a road-going version of the race car. It featured a more luxurious interior and was intended for homologation purposes.
Continued Success:
The GT40 went on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans three more times consecutively from 1966 to 1969, solidifying its place in motorsport history. Notably, the 1967 race saw an all-American victory with the GT40 Mk IV driven by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt.
Legacy:
The Ford GT40's dominance in endurance racing and its rivalry with Ferrari became legendary. It remains an icon of American automotive engineering and a symbol of Ford's determination to compete at the highest level of motorsport.
Modern Resurrection:
In the 2000s, Ford resurrected the GT nameplate with the Ford GT, a modern supercar inspired by the original GT40. The new Ford GT debuted in 2004 and again in 2017, paying homage to its predecessor while showcasing cutting-edge technology and performance.

A word on Wardpark/Cumbernauld Studios
@docsama left a comment, on S's birthday, under one of my posts and I promised her an answer with more information, as soon as I got the time. Anyway, here goes - and @docsama, sorry for the delay:
Tumblr media
Question is: who owns the Wardpark Film and Television Studios?
The answer was quick to find, in the not-so-old specialized media:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The story begins in 2013, with an ambitious Scottish entrepreneur, Terry Thomson - this guy (courtesy of The Herald, https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/15984820.analysis-three-projects-pipeline-help-productions-make-big-picture/):
Tumblr media
He is the owner of the Thomson Pettie Group, based in Carluke (https://www.thomsonpettie.com/about-us), which has nothing to do with cinema:
Tumblr media
You've read that right: they are 'manufacturers of fabricated metal parts and assemblies', primarily for the national automotive industry. Yet, in 2013, Mr. Thomson agreed to rent what he described as 'a dormant industrial property' - a warehouse, to be exact - to Sony, in order to host the filming and production of OL. Thus, he became the CEO of a newly created entity, The Wardpark Film and Television Studios (https://www.hackmancapital.com/scotlands-largest-most-iconic-film-studio-acquired-by-hackman-capital-partners-and-square-mile-capital/).
By 2017, Wardpark was doing so well, that a big expansion plan was announced, with the direct support of the Scottish Government, which invested £4 million via Scottish Enterprise, its business support, advice and funding agency:
Tumblr media
And then, in November 2021, the little engine that could was sold to those two big US investors, Hackman Capital Partners (HCP) and Square Mile Capital Management LLC (now globally rebranded as Affinius Capital). In this montage, Hackman Capital Partners brought its own confirmed film studios and media management expertise...
Tumblr media
... while Square Mile most probably funded a sizeable portion of the acquisition, simply because this is what they do best:
Tumblr media
Perhaps an interesting detail: HCP owns and manages both the Culver City based Sony Pictures Animation Studios' Campus and the legendary Culver Studios, now rebranded by Amazon:
Tumblr media
Back to Scotland, Wardpark Studio's sale made just about everyone happy. Mr. Thomson kept his CEO job and look who was more than thrilled about the juicy transaction:
Tumblr media
Currently, the studio is operated by HCP's subsidiary, The MBS Group:
Tumblr media
That means that MBS probably manages just about everything, as far as daily management is concerned, from business operations, staffing and/or property management, to lighting and grip, trucks and generators' fleet, expendables and props. Unless I could see a contract and have a precise idea, I can just enumerate all the services they offer.
At no point in time did S and C own anything of those studios. As for the Executive Producer part, that is another discussion entirely. I could be coaxed to write something about it, if you really want to know why Those Two are EPs and what does that really, really mean - because once again, I have seen and read a LOT of bullshit in here, especially in the Desperate Housewives Disgruntled Tumblrettes' corner.
Thank you for asking. It was fun to research and write and I hope it brought more clarity to you.

I think "A.I." is having a Cybertruck Effect on all algorithmic computing, and that's not necessarily a good thing.
Like how people trusted Tesla and thought they were the future of the automotive industry... and then the Cybertruck came out and it made people reflect on the past with new perspective. Therefore, the Cybertruck retroactively obliterated everyone's trust in Tesla. People don't just distrust the Tesla Cybertruck, but anything Tesla is doing or making these days.
That's what "A.I." has done. Neural Networks and computer learning tasks have been around forever. Apple has been including Neural Engines on their phone CPUs since 2017. Enabling computer's to make "intelligent" decisions is nothing new, and it could actually be extremely useful in specific fields.
But because capitalism jumped the gun and started calling really bad LLM's, GenAI, and "smart" features "A.I." it's retroactively made everyone distrustful towards ALL computer learning tasks, even if they've been around for years or could be useful in the future.

Robron Fanfiction Recommendations (Jun-2024)
Tumblr media
The below were recommended on Twitter during the month of June 2024
Sink Hole (2016) 6.6K words, robron_til_the_end
Aaron and Liv are home when there is a rumble. When the literal dust settles, they realize their home is in ruins and they are trapped. Those in the pub, including Robert, hear the rumbling and what seems like an explosion. To Robert’s horror, he sees his home has fallen into a sink hole. What’s worse, a call from Aaron confirms the worst… he is in the sink hole. Now it’s a race to save the siblings before it’s too late…
The Thrill of the Chase (2018) 3.2K words, livesybaby
Robert is known as the serial dater by his sister. But to himself, Robert sees it as the Sugden charm that makes him able to have whoever he wants… but for Aaron. He was the exception and that made the chase for Aaron even more thrilling to Robert as it was no secret he set his eye on the elusive mechanic. Will he catch Aaron in the end?
Was it you? (2016) 11.5K words, jamesm97
The fic covers a couple of areas which, in the end, is all about trust and not keeping secrets whether it’s for the other’s own good. That said, we focus on Liv calling the coppers on Robert for supposedly having the vile one killed and Aaron having believed it, both Aaron and Robert revealing their insecurities about their future (and fearing not having one), as well as Aaron learning about the Andy/Ross connection to Robert’s shooting.
Fight to Survive (2015) 6.3K words, Elle0555
There’s a big blaze in the pub and Robert realizes in horror that Aaron must be in there and it’s his fault because of another squabble. Not thinking about himself, Robert’s sole focus is saving the man he cannot live without. Will Robert be able to save him? There’s a twist at the very end.
It Happened in Norway (2018) 12.3K words, brokenspell77
Robert’s had enough of having barely any alone time with his husband (thanks to Liv, Gerry and their families) so he surprises Aaron with a week away in Norway. Join the lads as they enjoy snow sports (think a giraffe and snow 🫣), swimming and simply having time to themselves without a care in the world. Oh, and Robert has a little pressie at the end… It’s simply the lads being happy and carefree.
Car Wash (2015) 7.4K words, robronsugsy
Cain decides to expand the money coming into Dingle & Dingle Automotives by opening up a car wash service on a country road and that means grumpy Aaron is first up on duties there (luckily he has mate Adam to help him out in the start). Soon enough a white Audi shows with a blonde haired prick behind the wheel who likes what he sees. And so we have a brief journey to the start of their affair.
Your Body’s a Message (2017) 12.4K words, lovesnarf (snarfette)
Takes place during hell year when scumbag/creep/nimrod/etc Jason comes looking for Aaron (who is in Ireland) and encounters Robert instead at the Mill… things don’t turn out well for Robert. It brings Aaron flying back to his estranged husband’s side posthaste after hearing a voice message and fearing the worst for Robert. Will the circumstance lead them to a path of reconciliation?
Pinkpetrolheads (2015) 4.0K words, Stulot
Takes place after Aaron returned from France. Adam gives Aaron a membership to a website. It’s here the lads meet online (and soon enough start texting) forming a close and unconditional friendship. When they decide it’s time to meet, neither know the other are from the same village. When circumstances change at the last minute, will Robert be willing to return so he can finally meeting Aaron? Better yet? No Whites in sight 🙌!

Bruce Wayne’s financial history (minus the Batman expenses)
DISCLAIMER: THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE OTHER BIG AND OR UNNECESSARY USELESS PURCHASES!!!!
For example, in The New Batman Adventures episode 10, Bruce Wayne goes to an auction with Tim Drake. He ends up buying a rare magical artifact for his friend for one million dollars. Or another time like in Gotham the TV series season 4 episode 3, Bruce buys a knife for Two Million dollars. This also does not include any of his Batman expenses. Only Bruce Wayne’s purchases. Because I know the Bat-cave, the Bat-mobile, the Bat-computer, the Bat-suit, the bat-gadgets, etc, blah, blah, blah, all had to have costed a pretty penny. It would take forever to track down all of his expenses.
”How many companies does Bruce Wayne own?”
He owns six companies, not including any co-companies. He owns:
Wayne Enterprises (along with other Wayne companies)
Bruce Wayne has many companies under the Wayne name. Such as:
Wayne Biotech
Wayne Industries
Wayne Aerospace
Wayne Shipping
Wayne Foundation
Wayne Medical
Wayne Steel
Wayne Botanical
Wayne foods
Wayne Corp
Wayne Automotive
Wayne Pharmaceuticals
The Daily Planet
Yes, Batman actually gives Superman his salary. Bruce bought the ownership over the Daily Planet. Why? I dunno. He just did.
A Disco Club
In the Gotham TV show season 4 episode 7, Bruce Wayne has bought a disco club when they refused him entry.
A Hotel
Bruce bought a hotel in the movie Batman Begins because the two women Bruce was with wanted to swim in the pool but the manager asked them to leave so Bruce bought the hotel to change its rules.
A Bank
In The Justice League 2017 movie, Bruce bought a bank to pay off Clark’s debt.
Clark Kent : "Thank you, Bruce" is not enough for what you did.
Bruce Wayne : I just undid a mistake, that's all.
Clark Kent : How did you get the house back from the bank?
Bruce Wayne : I bought the bank.
A Record company
In the 1970’s Batman comic issue (Batman #222) Bruce Wayne invests in a record label known as Eden Records.
Questions:
“How rich is Bruce Wayne?”
This is a tricky question. The thing is, there isn’t really a set-in-stone answer. It depends on the comic, the writer, etc. but from what I have found, Bruce Wayne’s net worth is $80 billion dollars in Batman #93 (2018). Wayne Enterprises is estimated to be worth at around $31.3 billion dollars, and I’ll have to assume the rest is from his other smaller companies and or his investments that have been proven to be profitable and successful.
“How did Bruce Wayne get so rich?”
He was rich even before he was even born. His wealth comes from his long line of family. When Bruce’s great, great, great grandfather bought property back when Gotham was more of a small town and less of a busy city. This real estate fortune grew rapidly overtime and was passed onto Bruce’s great grandfather, Alan Wayne. Alan was the one who developed the railroads as well as the shipping ports and chemical plants in Gotham city. And this all happened during the Industrial Revolution. Bruce’s grandfather, Patrick Wayne, then inherited the companies that Alan had built. Patrick then created the Wayne Corporation, AKA Waynecorp after the Great Depression and the company expanded into technology. They then supplied the American army with aircraft’s and ships during the pacific war. Then this company was passed onto Bruce’s father, Thomas Wayne, who built Gotham’s monorail, and then Bruce eventually inherited it himself.

Porsche Panamera
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The presentation of the first generation (code name 970), which took place in April 2009 in China, revealed only part of the model range (3 versions), later expanded to 9 (including a diesel and a hybrid). Furthermore, there is a version with a 15cm longer wheelbase, called Executive.
In April 2013, a restyling was presented which, in addition to modifications to the headlights and bumpers, introduced some new engine features.
The 400 HP 4.8 V8 was replaced by the more powerful and high-performance 420 HP 3.0 V6 biturbo for the S version.
Car body
edit
The Panamera is a 4-door coupé approximately 5 meters long, with top speeds ranging between 259 km/h for the Diesel version and 310 km/h for the Turbo S version. The four seats consist of single seats; the external style deliberately recalls that of the Porsche 911, especially at the front, so as to make the Panamera immediately recognizable as a Porsche.
Production takes place in the Leipzig plant, the same one where the Porsche Cayenne is assembled, demonstrating the presence of many points in common between the two models (starting from the engines and the integral transmission on the 4S and Turbo models).
The markets for which the model is intended are, in addition to Europe and the USA, above all the emerging markets (Russia, China, Middle East): for this reason the presentation took place at the Chinese show in Shanghai.
In April 2013, the restyled version of the Panamera was announced, which then made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. The plug-in hybrid version, called Panamera S E-Hybrid, was introduced on the US market in November 2013.
Tumblr media
The second generation Panamera was unveiled on 28 June 2016 at an event held in Berlin. The code name is Type 971; the car, built on the VW Group's new Porsche MSB (Modular Standard Drive) platform, is 35 millimeters longer and 5 mm wider than the first generation, with 30 millimeters more wheelbase. The interior features a redesigned dashboard, with center console instrumentation made up of touch-sensitive surfaces replacing the previous generation with physical buttons. The tachometer, the only analogue instrument, is mounted centrally on the instrument panel and recalls that of the 1955 Porsche 356 A. The new car is equipped with two seven-inch displays instead of the classic pointer dials in the dashboard, with another screen 12.3-inch touchscreen that also acts as a satellite navigator with Apple CarPlay integration present in the center console. The new instrumentation is called Advanced Cockpit. Under the bonnet is a new range of engines, with only the Panamera 4S, 4S Diesel and Turbo versions available at launch.
Tumblr media
In March 2017 Porsche presented the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, a plug-in hybrid car. The Turbo S E-Hybrid features the 4.0-liter V8 engine from the Panamera Turbo, but it comes paired with an electric motor. The total system output is 680 hp, making it the second most powerful production Porsche ever built, after the 918 Spyder.
In this new model the torque of the overall system rises to 850 Nm, reaching the torque level of the Diesel version. Performance also increases, 0-100 is covered in 3.4 and 0-200 in 8.2 seconds.
Tumblr media
The new Panamera aesthetically no longer features the rounded tailgate that had divided automotive critics of the previous series, but now the tail with a more tapered and squared style recalls that of the 991 through the headlights and the longitudinal rear LED strip. This improvement in design helped clarify the model's identity as a touring-oriented sports car.
In March 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show, a shooting brake version of the Panamera II series built on the same base, called Panamera Sport Turismo, was presented.
The restyling of the second generation Panamera was presented on August 26, 2020.

Can Volkswagen survive? | DW Business
Volkswagen faces mounting pressure as it battles declining sales and profitability in China’s fiercely competitive electric vehicle (EV) market. As the European market also faces challenges with incoming tariffs, Volkswagen’s long-term strategy will be crucial to its survival. DW Business speaks with Beatrix Keim of the Center Automotive Research to find out more.
P.S. Good question! With current mindset in Germany!? Most likely not! The last time the Germans could save VW was 2017, but instead of innovation, they chose to play political games and spread the propaganda of the Russians and other oil traders (and it's not just VW's problem, Stellantis - in exactly the same situation, and only because of their own fault. Even back then in 2017, it was known exactly what car manufacturers had to do to survive... but they didn't do it...)...If VW survives until 2030, it will be a significantly smaller company... The West failed again...
In addition since 2016/2017, the Western mass media space diligently hid the fact that traditional car manufacturers have a growing problem - backwardness in the field of electric car production technologies. Instead of informing the readers about technological innovations in the electric car industry, the Western media threw dirt at Tesla and the new growing car manufacturers in China... then when the problem can no longer be hidden, everyone "surprised" asks the question: "How to save a legacy automaker like VW?"

#VoxPop The long-running radio interview program Vox Pop highlighted many aspects of American culture during the 1930s and 1940s. One of the show’s favorite themes was college life. From 1940 to 1947, Vox Pop broadcast from 23 college campuses all over the country, interviewing students, faculty, administrators, and coaches.
On January 25, 1940, Vox Pop broadcast from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Here, hosts Parks Johnson and Wally Butterworth pose with Jean Wiltberger at the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity House while admirers look on. Wiltberger, a student at Northwestern University, had recently been selected as the “typical American co-ed.”
After graduating from Northwestern, Wiltberger married fellow student Robert Osborn. During World War II, she worked at the Studebaker automotive plant. After the war, she and Robert settled in Fort Collins, Colorado. She retired in San Diego, California, where she died in 2017 at the age of 96.

Man I used to love my car. 2017 Chevy Volt.
I'd reached a time in my life when I had the financial stability to make a large, nonessential purchase that would make my life more comfortable. Buy in to the automotive future. Experience the vaunted peace of mind that is said to come with owning a vehicle still covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Wrap myself in performance, environmental responsibility, versatility, and unlimited range. I bought it two years old in 2019. I loved it for about five years.
Owning a car that is still within warranty comes with certain expectations about parts availability. And service availability.
First things were okay. Infotainment died: in warranty, replaced. Exhaust chafing and wearing holes in itself: recall, replaced. The car charged reliably. EV range seemed factory new.
Then the EGR valve went bad in 2023, taking the ECU with it. Chevrolet stonewalled me and the independent shop working on the vehicle for me, leaving us with no ETA on the new part. It took six months. FOR GM TO START MANUFACTURING THE PART.
Last week the BECM went bad. Total propulsion loss. Can't even charge or start the engine. This one, thanks to a *~*drumroll~*~ class action lawsuit is actually being manufactured and should be a week out, and covered by a newly extended warranty. Except that the dealership doesn't have availability for a technician to see the car until the week after next.
Turns out the Volt also has an electric brake actuator which can fail, leaving the driver unable to fully stop the car, or slow the car faster than the regenerative braking. This, again, is a part that GM seems to think it is no longer responsible for providing.
So my nice car that is meant to be two cars in one is now functionally a shitty car, thanks to GM's refusal to take responsibility for their product.
Oh and the radio antenna hasn't worked for three years. Replacement would cost $600 with no way to tell if it would even work.
My current thought is, instead of owning one expensive shitty car that is meant to be two cars in one, why not buy two cheap shitty cars? An internal combustion manual for long trips (I hate automatic transmissions so much you don't even know) and a stupid EV for going to work. Then if one shitty car breaks, I'll have a backup. And I won't be...disappointed.
If I find a cheap enough shitty manual car, It'll pay for myself in like five cross-state trips to see my mom.
I'm a single adult. I get to have a midlife crisis and buy a stupid coupe and an equally stupid Fiat 500e.
