I said I would eventually post my Lars-centered Steven Universe AUs and I will not disappoint

I may have said this before but whenever I like a character I tend to pour a bunch of extra trauma on them as a way of showing affection 🤷 I have a weird obsession with Lars so… this happened

This AU doesn’t really have an official name, I just call it my Villain Lars AU. Pretty self-explanatory 😅 I think this one is my all-time FAVORITE that I’ve created!

The base of this AU is basically “what if Steven’s revival powers didn’t work immediately? What if they took a couple hours or even a couple days?” The Diamonds discover Lars’s body, he comes back to life inside the palace, Yellow takes interest in him. Some stuff happens and… villain Lars 😈 White tried to mind-control him, but it didn’t work since he’s not a Gem, but she can very much influence his thoughts and actions.

I've been really nervous that Lars Pinfield would be a carbon copy of Egon Spengler, and hearing that the directors told James Acaster to watch Egon in the first film confirmed my concerns massively.

But knowing that James has put his own spin on the character has filled me with hope.

I really, really love Egon; he's my favourite Ghostbuster and I really resonate with his character. And knowing that Harold Ramis isn't able to be in the new franchise still breaks my heart. And I really didn't want a "new" Egon Spengler.

Here's hoping that Lars Pinfield is his own character that got into parapsychology because he saw himself in Egon's passion for the trade, rather than a Hollywood attempt to replicate the character that we can't have on screen anymore.

I am aware this is just me being really autistic and struggling with change and still grieving for Egon and Harold, but it's been worrying me, I'm sorry.

Steven quartz universe is autistic and here's why

I present to you a full course meal of autism evidence for all you autistic goobers who see yourself in steven (like me)

He has the need for sameness/safe foods

Literally in episode one (gem glow) the whole beginning of the episode shows steven super upset over his favorite ice cream (safe food) being discontinued (meaning it had to be super unpopular.) An allistic child wouldn't be as upset because there are hundreds of other brands of ice cream sandwiches out there, but steven liked this SPECIFIC brand. He even memorized the commercial for it. (also he likes to eat the ears first which is SO real)

also, throughout the entire series he orders the same exact thing from the fry shop, the bits, which i've noticed a lot of autistic people find it easier or just prefer to have food in smaller pieces. he orders it so much that everyone that works there knows exactly what he's gonna order every time he comes

Not having friends his age

Most of steven's friends are either literal aliens, or adults/people way older than him, and the only friends his age that he has is connie (who I think is autistic too don't even get me STARTED) and peedee (who is also probably neurodivergent.)

I can heavily relate to this, as a child I only really hung around adults and one or two other neurodivergent kids. It's much easier to hang out with people older then you when your autistic because there isn't really the same social rules compared to the kids your age, and the older people don't really mind how you act since your younger then them

Also I kinda see how the reason onion and his friends like steven is because he's autistic. If I go by my headcannon that onion and his gang are all non speaking autistic kids, then it makes sense they connect with steven. My autistic little cousin loves playing with me because I understand her, and I think it's the same way with steven and onion, he understands onion and plays with him in a way that makes him feel understood

He doesn't understand social ques

There are SO many moments where steven doesn't understand social ques, at least one moment every 2 episodes. One example is in onion gang when onion and his friends were pretending one of them died with LITERAL KETCHUP and steven didn't understand that was a joke (silly guy)

I also see this a lot when he's with lars and sadie, he doesn't really understand which moments he should include himself in like in island adventure when he was constantly coming in between lars in sadie when they had their moments

Theres so much more but im not gonna list more since this happens like every episode

He wears the same clothes everyday

steven has been rocking the same fit for YEARS. I know it makes sense because he wears his dad's merch, but it's not like if he asked for more of a variety of clothes, the gems or his dad would have said no. Also the band shirts doesn't excuse the fact he wears the same jeans and flip flops every day. Autistic people love consistently especially when it comes to clothes

Even in future he doesn't really change up his daily attire, except for the jacket. He still sticks with the t shirt, jeans, and flip flops combo and honestly he's so real for that

Special interests/hypertixations

Steven definitely has hypertixations/ special interests. I can definitely see his main one being crying breakfast friends, he literally started a whole youtube channel to record his reaction to new episodes, and has very emotional reactions to them (same)

He also definitely infodumps about it a lot, Mostly in the form of trying to get people interested in it, like when he was trying to get the gems to take a personality quiz to see what crying breakfast friends character they are and when he used crying breakfast friend stickers to mark the warp pads inactive

And finally, just look at him and tell me you don't see the autism radiating through this creature

AUTISTIC LARS HCS!! Like my other Bridge Kids hcs lists, some of these r subject to change since the show is still going :>

•Lars didn’t talk much while growing up which concerned his parents. After going to a few doctors & whatnot, they figured out it was because he’s autistic. When Marc Anthony came around and they found out he’s autistic as well, they felt a lot more at ease and prepared this time around. (Not saying they didn’t want to meet all of Lars’ different needs and whatever as he was growing up, they were just kinda anxious because they were first time parents and didn’t know what to expect & what would be different than the ‘usual’ parenting experience)

•His parents are very accommodating to his and his brothers needs & preferences. If Marc doesn’t like his foods touching, they’ll be extra careful when putting together his dinner plate for example.

•Lars doesnt like clothes that are form fitting or in the slightest bit tight. All of his clothes are baggy. Even outfits for ‘formal’ things like tuxedos and whatnot. When he was made to wear stuff that he didn’t like (before his diagnosis), he’d be picking at his clothes every 5 seconds and trying to adjust them until they felt right or he’d just cross his arms and refuse to wear whatever his parents were trying to get him into.

•He’s very monotone, never shows that much emotion, and can be blunt every now and then. Some people can think he’s rude or that he doesn’t have feelings sometimes because of how he is and can get frustrated with him :/

•When he smiles, it’s small and not very noticeable unless you’re standing close to him.

•His special interests is in music and he is one of those guys who can get a little too technical about music genres. Like if you said “yeah that bands great. I love deathcore” he’s the type to be like “uhm. I dunno- I would say they are more post hardcore than deathcore.” But he’s not gonna be an ass about it. He just is particular about it.

Speaking of this, Fug goes out of his way to look up and learn about all the different genres of metal just because it’s something that interests Lars even though he himself isn’t really into metal. Sometimes they’ll talk about all the different genres or bicker over whatever genre a song Lars put on is lol

•Since the school is made aware of Lars’ autism, they are pretty lax with him wearing headphones when a teacher isn’t actively teaching since it helps him focus and drown out noises that can make it hard for him to focus. It’s actually how Fug found out how Lars is autistic. He was jealous that Lars was able to wear them around all the time and one day was complaining about it not being fair and against the rules until Lars just told him why he’s allowed to. Fug was just like “oh… sorry.” and never brought it up again 💀 well besides every now and then when he’s sharing random facts he saw online about autism.

•Regarding meltdowns, at the worst he self h*rms (he tries not to do that anymore) or pull his hair. But more often than not he just curls up somewhere and closes his eyes until he can calm down and doesn’t feel as overstimulated.

•You can catch him always messing with something in his hand like a pen or eraser at school. I already talked about this before but I think he’s always gotta be moving some part of himself even when he’s calm.

(Kinda random but I feel like he would wear multiple rings every now and then and he definitely plays with them while zoning out or listening to someone)

•He prefers not being touched or hugged especially out of nowhere but it isn’t too much of a big deal for him. He just tries to end it quickly and casually.

•Him and his little brother have this kinda silent bond and understanding of each other. Lars is really glad there’s someone around who’s like him :,) They try to take care of each other during those bad moments and they bond just by being in the same room as each other doing their own things.

Visual Novel and Otome Recommendations for the Discerning Artem Enjoyer

So, recently, I've been playing a few other otome games. And you know what? I've had to sludge through a lot of crap! It literally took me months to be able to compile a list of four games I feel confident recommending.

Also, each of these games have an aspect that might appeal to Artem fans, especially a-spec ones. Of course, your mileage may vary, but here are my recommendations.

C14 Dating: You're a college student participating in an archeological internship. The game includes friendship routes as well as romance ones. It's very chill and laid back! I have played through all of the routes and enjoyed them greatly. Though, I am specifically recommending this game for one character - Hendrik, a young geologist who is a TA at the dig site. He is canonically asexual, and is the only character of his kind that I've encountered in a dating sim. The subject matter is also handled very well. This game was actually recommended to me by an anon, and I thank them so very much for it!

Trouble Comes Twice: Adrian. That's all. I'm kidding. Unless? But for real, he feels like if you took Artem Wing, but put him in the childhood friend role. It works so well. I am being entirely serious. Sexualities aren't usually outright stated as most of the characters are bisexual, but in Hazel's Adrian route, Adrian explicitly mentions never having had romantic or sexual feelings before. And Hazel is very chill about it. Which makes Adrian canonically a-spec to me! As for the protagonists, Jace and Hazel, they're an acquired taste, but they get much better as the plot goes on. The game is also a little short, but I enjoyed it very much!

Our Life: Beginnings & Always: Part of me regrets playing this game because now I will never get the chance to play it for the first time again. It is so fucking good. The amount of customization is unreal and unmatched. Cove is a wonderful love interest, and honestly? He might even beat Artem in the blushy boy department. He's also canonically demisexual and embodies the "me and the bad bitch I pulled by being autistic" meme. And on top of this, the game is free. DLC (which includes more memories and two additional love interests) is also extremely cheap, and the price of it all combined is still a lot cheaper than most games.

Lovebrush Chronicles: Definitely the closest to Tears of Themis in terms of it being an otome gacha that finally got its global release back in October. Artem fans tend to be drawn to Clarence and Alkaid, but will find reason to also like Ayn and Lars. For instance, I love all of them. Please send help. The game's localization is excellent and makes the love interests feel more human. The game also has no qualms about making fun of its own characters, and the MC will frequently have the chance to lovingly bully the boys. Speaking of the MC - she is incredible and I love her. She takes no shit and is the only otome MC that has made me think, "yeah, I would definitely say that too," and I love her for it.
