To my fellow autistic artists,
If you're dreading doing creative work today, it's likely that you're dreading the masking that comes with it.
Thinking of the audience's reaction, playing music to force a certain mood, being "on" all the time in your breaks, trying to stim to make yourself get back to work...
It's just as exhausting as social masking and inhibits your relationship with your craft!
You don't deserve to mask in your sacred alone time 💜

Introducing Bathrobe Gal, a webcomic.
Maybe you relate. Or maybe you'd just like to follow along on my adventures. Maybe you're stumbled upon this by accident (in which case, I hope you’ll stick around!) In any case, I’m so glad you're here.
Origins of Bathrobe Gal:
I started drawing comics to better understand myself and my unique brain. And, also, to give my husband some good-natured chuckles. Family members encouraged me to share.
Origins of the Bathrobe:
I’ve pretty much lived my life in a bathrobe…Okay, as a little girl, I’d wrap blankets tight around myself and wear them around like clothes. I liked the feelings of security and squeezing pressure. One day, my parents realized there was an item of clothing for this very purpose. To this day, I’m always wrapping up in my bathrobe. I’m wearing it right now. Hence, Bathrobe Gal is the evolved (adult) form of Blankie Girl.
Want To See More?
You can follow me here, on Instagram, or Bluesky. I look forward to sharing with you :)
Thanks so much for your support!!

All those "just because you're autistic doesn't mean you can be an asshole posts" are just telling autistics to mask.

Why do I say things I completely mean, neurodivergence edition
Them: You can ask me anything! I'm an open book *encouraging tone and vibe*
Me: Oh! I'm a choose-your-own-adventure book. *is 100% serious and then proceeds to give examples of how diverging dialogue could lead to different outcomes in a situation* Me, continued: *examples of how this conversation could diverge given different dialogue*
Me, continued: *somehow ends up going on a monologue about determinism and how all things could be and are probably all interconnected*
Them: *changes conversation topic or leaves*

See the biggest question about being social with new people is…
Do i lead with the autism?
Do I save that as a surprise character trait?
Whats the play here

Black Autistic Culture is listening to your mother's friends talk about how crazy their kids are and when they describe their behaviors they sound very similar to how you behave unmasked.

start unmasking in safe places like your room. then with your therapist and friends. maybe evem family and in public
we had autistic regession, and a lot of alters in our system lost a lot of skills and the ability of mask.
so this is forceful unmasking. it was hard. it was scary. some of us can still mask, just not as well as we use to, so that's hard.
i'm still learning to accept myself as an autistic and how to support my system with us being mid to high support level autistics. i am trying. - HoneyLily

First art of the new year is all about re-structuring your internal monologue.
In my early 20s I was working full time in London with many social commitments and a variety of hustles and side projects.
In my later mid 20s I cater to many sensory and social drain needs I have and indulge in special interests while respecting my lower energy reserves and celebrating my different way of processing the world.
Did I get more autistic? Nah. I got less fake.

[Art description: Three panels showing figures on a black background. Long descriptions follow.
1. A drawing of OP as a person with hip-length hair and a dress standing sadly with her hands clapsed together in front of her. She is coloured a muted rainbow gradient. Behind her, two pairs of nondescript figures chat while smiling. White text says, ‘I’m getting more and more autistic the older I get.’ 2. OP’s colours are brighter, and her expression looks happier. Crayon-like scribbles have crossed out the text from the previous panel. 3. OP’s colours are vibrant, and she balances on one leg and throws her arms out as she dances. The text above has changed to say, ‘I’m becoming more and more myself the older I get.’ \End descriptions]
