Hey Australian Heathens!
I'm thinking of making a discord server for heathens/norse pagans in Australia, but I want to know how many people would be interested in joining (if anyone)
I've been feeling kind of isolated being a heathen in Australia. Almost all related content is based in the northern hemisphere, the servers I join are dominated by people from the US and Europe, which makes proper interactions difficult due to the time zone differences (at least for me).
It would be an inclusive server, welcoming all LGBT+ and BIPOC people! (and anti t*rf, r*cist, f*cist)
(please only answer if you're in Australia!!)
If you have any questions or concerns, let me know! Although, keep on mind I'm still not 100% sure I'll do this!

I take a moment to thank the Theoi for orchestrating the series of events that lead to me moving to "Little Greece" in February 2023
Tumblr media
And I make my trip to the local pharmacy that's owned and run by a Greek family an Apollo devotional act.
Especially given that he made today perfectly clear blue skies despite the forecast for rain.

Now I don’t go in for these American traditions (actually European) as an Australian. Bad influence on our youngsters. But being a Trade Unionist and a bit Bolshie, I couldn’t go past this.

Rememberance Day 2024
Each year I like to take time out of my day on this day to refelct, mourn, and research on the fallen and forgotten soldiers that died in not only WWI but in any conflict. Today however, my scheduele has not allowed me to do so, barely being able to have a one minute silence. So instead, I thought I'd share this small post of commemoration; Lord Ares on my shoulder this time.
Remembrance Day is one of the most important days on our commemorative calendar. It's a day when we acknowledge those who died or suffered while serving in wars, conflicts and peace operations. Remembrance Day is held on 11 November each year. This is the anniversary of the Armistice of 1918 that ended fighting in World War I. The war didn't officially end until 28 June 1919 with the Treaty of Versailles. People in Australia and many other countries observe one minute's silence at the 11 th hour of the 11 th day of the 11 th month because that's when the Armistice came into effect. It's a time to honour our service personnel who died or suffered in service of Australia. - https://anzacportal.dva.gov.au/themes/custom/commemorations/favicon.ico
The Ode: "They shall grow not old as we who are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condem. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."
-'For the Fallen' [this verse is merely a section of the full poem, but this is what is most commonly said at events] Poem by Robert Laurence Binyon (1869-1943), published in The Times newspaper on 21 September 1914.

My personal favourite Rememberance Day poem is the famous 'In Flanders Feilds' by John McCrae. It never ceases to make me cry (or at least tear up).
[excuse the poor spacing]
"In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,     That mark our place; and in the sky     The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,     Loved and were loved, and now we lie,         In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw     The torch; be yours to hold it high.     If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow         In Flanders fields."
This all being said, I wish everyone that lost someone dear to them in any war or conflict or act of violence is well and healing; and is allowing space to feel the emotions that come with grief.
I also believe it is a time to reflect upon ourselves and the present. Service people put themselves on the line for a better world, and they continue to, we should honour them. However, we should not need soldiers in the first place; although victims of war and violence do, the acts themselves hold no space in my heart. No oil, land, profit, business, religion, sexuality, race, gender, or anything should result in mass amounts of senseless violence, because well, it's just senseless. No innocent person deserves these attrocities.
My heart goes out to those in Gaza / Palestine, in Congo, in Lebannon, and in all other places where war, conflict, slavery, and discrimination is rife. This now too includes America since the recent election results.
Although donations and volunteer work is AMAZING. Being just an advocate or sharing information is essential as well and helps just as much; it spread it to the people who CAN make those big world decisions, it spread it to people who CAN donate, who CAN volunteer. So even if you can give money or too much time, which neither can I, please just spend even a few minutes to research or spread awareness, that too helps.
In conclusion; War sucks. It has no place in the world.
LEST WE FORGET

australian raven
Tumblr media
disclaimer: the following information is purely my own interpretation of what this animal means on a spiritual level, due to my own experiences in both witchcraft, and general knowledge on wildlife and wildlife behaviour in my area. i encourage people to do their own witchy research if they feel compelled to, you might learn something different from me! additionally, i feel it is right to reference the original tales of the australian raven, but i will not appropriate from first nations people.
Tumblr media
the australian raven is a bird native to australia from the family corvidae. they are considerably smaller than their northern hemisphere counterparts, and always are pure black with a blue or green sheen. they have a connection to trickery and ancestors in indigenous australian stories, and are highly intelligent birds that tend to appear in populated areas. in some parts of western parts of australia, they are regarded as declared pests of agriculture, and they often feed on carrion and tend to flock together.
the energy of the australian raven is heavily connected to the energy of the dead, and the spirit world. additionally, they are birds of high intelligence, and are often found scavenging - this points to them being a sign of being advantageous and cunning. in other parts of the world, ravens can additionally be a sign of bad luck (or good luck, depending on how many you see), and the dead - this carries over to the australian raven, as well. they are messengers of spirits, and in my personal practice, due to their shadowy appearance, i associate them with the intelligent presence of devils, demons, and night + death entities/deities.
if you see an australian raven, it can indicate a multitude of things depending on your situation. it could be an indicator of:
a message awaits from a spirit, deity, or demon.
an ill omen, as they feed on carrion.
an upcoming trial of wits, intelligence, and cunning.
an upcoming test of adaptability.
a potential haunting.
the spirit wishing to aid you in some form of spirit work.

I'm realising now (studying theology) that I'm such a prick for saying I follow Greek Gods and not the spiritualities I do, the Norse Gods and The Dreaming. Not only have I fully blocked out my Indigenous Australian half, but just? Blocked out a part of me so I'm "easier to understand". WHICH IS BULLSHIT. Half of religion, and spirituality is understanding that there are multiple world views, and none are wrong, so why did I think my own so disgusting and hard to hold that I should cover it from the world? Why did I see my own faith as a thing to be shunned, and hidden, as if my people, have no suffered enough.

Magick of Australian Fleabane
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Considered a noxious weed by agriculturalists, Fleabane and it's varieties are actually some of the most potent spiritual plants.
Used for exorcisms, protection and chastity magick, Fleabane is a great alternative to burning Sage for cleansing and Spiritual purposes as this baby packs a punch when it comes to cleansing negative energy.
It's completely resistant to pesticides which makes its protective quality incredibly strong and can grow in some of the most inhospitable environments, making it extremely resilient.
Harvest and dry it to use in regular smoke cleansing just like you would sage or other herbs.
Happy Witching

It's the most minor thing to be annoyed at but I'm obsessed with this person saying that they don't like Easter Bilbies (alternative to easter bunnies because rabbits are an environmental disaster here) because it "erases the pagan roots of the rabbit"

Me, playing music as I'm about to shower: "Dear Hermes Mercurius please guide my music"
DJ Hermes: *Plays Dirty Deeds by ACDC*
Me, grinning: "Hey Hermes! It's been a while. I hope you're okay"
DJ Hermes: 🥺 *plays "a little bit off" by Five Finger Death Punch*
Me: 🥺 aw... that's right, we're heading into Mercury retrograde on the 25th
DJ Hermes: "Time of Dying" by Three Days Grace
"I will not die.
I will survive.
I will not die.
I'll wait here for you
I feel alive
When you're here beside me"
Me, now naked about to step in the shower: 🥺 my heart though that might be the Mango Loco monster I drank in his honour
DJ Hermes:
Hey, yeah, I'm the one that you wanted
Hey, yeah, I'm your superbeast
Hey, yeah, I'm the one that you wanted
Hey, yeah, I'm your superbeast
He's been away lately while Apollo has kept me busy, but Apollo likes to duck away during New moons to make me focus on my intuition.
Hermes might also be a bit upset because Cassius (world's largest croc) died
I used to try and pet the river crocodiles when I was a toddler during fishing trips 🥺🐊
This might explain the Ibis that stalked me a little on Friday (thinking of Hermes' kemetic form, Thoth) so I'll ponder this a bit...
(Mum resolved the issue of me trying to "pat pat pat" the big arse River crocs by making me hold her unopened can of beer)

I don't know if I should be happy or sad that I can't find any online presence of the Path of Light, the Australian pagan coven I was a part of in 2005, and a bit a few years later, that started to fall apart because of inappropriate behavior and weirdness.
And the lies!
Number one warning sign for anyone: if your coven leader is like 'we have an unbroken tradition stretching back hundreds of years'
...just leave. If people won't admit the truth, that modern western paganism is reconstructionist, then they are either insecure, or con artists
Also it was my first experience with someone trying to and absolutely failing to gain a hook on me. Gave me a lot of relief honestly, protected by my deep and complete distrust of authority.
If I can't find anything maybe they disappeared. If not, I'd like to warn people.
I'd also like closure, I guess, understanding of what was going on for others.
I mean I live in agonistic land. Doesn't change the years and years I spent in pagan land. Doesn't change the affinity I feel for them.

the magpie-lark
Tumblr media
disclaimer: the following information is purely my own interpretation of what this animal means on a spiritual level, due to my own experiences in both witchcraft, and general knowledge on wildlife and wildlife behaviour in my area. i encourage people to do their own witchy research if they feel compelled to, you might learn something different from me!
Tumblr media
the magpie-lark is a bird native to australia from the family monarchidae. they are medium-sized, black and white pied birds, known for being particularly territorial against larger birds, and sometimes people. an interesting fact about them is they're one of the few species of birds to sing in duets with one-another!
the energy of the magpie-lark can be worked with surrounding magic of the home and hearth (the territorial behaviour), particularly keeping a safe, homely environment. for this reason, they can help inspire protection magic, or aggressive magic of any sort. due to their marbled appearance and singing behaviour, they can also be interpreted as being a spirit of communication, with others who are alive or deceased.
the black and white being both present on the bird can also indicate working with extremes and opposites - thus, as the magpie-lark can be an animal of aggression, it can equally represent much-needed compromise and seeing eye-to-eye.
if you see a magpie-lark, it can indicate a multitude of things depending on your situation. it could be an indicator of:
overreaction, due to its extreme territorial behaviour.
a need for cooperation between yourself and someone else.
a spirit or family member wishing to communicate something important with you.
peace being needed in a situation of conflict.
the spirit wishing to assist you in defensive magic.
