New headcanon (that is highly specific and very rarely useful but I find highly entertaining anyway)…
Why Sokka immediately distrusts Aunt Wu:
Her Mark of the Wise was upside down so she was obviously not to be trusted.

Has anyone ever written an Azutara fic based on Azula being the person Aunt Wu predicted Katara would marry?
Katara: Actually, it’s about the man I’m supposed to marry-
Aunt Wu: Man? Who said anything about a man?
Katara:…Okay. Is she gonna be beautiful? Oh, I hope she’s tall.

In the end, Meng managed to become a respected woman thanks to the skills she learned from Aunt Wu... And yes, I don't need to consult the bones to give Lin that advice.
Experience is experience.
🦴
Naturally, Lin did not follow the advice.

I'm rewatching Atla and I realized I have zero idea what I am supposed to take away from the fortune teller episode. Like is she legit or a scammer? Because all her fortunes came true through the characters actions like in that's so raven. Sokka actually reminds me of Raven because in trying to prove aunt wu wrong he inadvertently shows that her fortune was right which I believe the villagers pointed out at the end of the episode.
But then the show seems to contradict and prove you can write your own destiny. But it also shows that even pass the episode all aunt wu said was true, like Sokka getting in his own way a lot or Katara ending up with a powerful bender and she is still kicking in legend of Korra.
Also other question do you think Zuko would believe in aunt wu like Katara or be a sceptic like Sokka. Because he seems to believe in destiny and things being pre-planned but I've seen people say he would be a skeptic but I think it depends on when Zuko meets her.
Sorry if this is a lot. I should probably just write it off as comedic and move on.
I think the message we are supposed to get is that we make our own destiny, which sometimes means that we create a self-fulfilling prophecy. That message is kinda muddled because the creators wanted to also use it to promote KA, and there are a lot of excellent zutara metas out there on that already so I won't rehash that. I'll just say that I really dislike the way the episode takes advantage of Katara's faith by portraying her as silly for believing in destiny - unless it's about Aang, that is.
I think the question of what Zuko would believe is more interesting, and I agree that it depends on where he is in his arc. Yes, he talks a lot about destiny, especially early on, but if book one Zuko met Aunt Wu, he probably would only listen if she told him things he wanted to hear, anything that could reaffirm what he already believed about his destiny being to capture Aang and return to the Fire Nation as Ozai's son and heir. I imagine that if she told him something that contradicted that, he would absolutely refuse to believe it, the way he refused to believe Iroh when he tried to tell him the truth about Ozai and his mission.
Book two Zuko I think might be kind of interesting. If Zuko ran into Aunt Wu during his Zuko Alone era, for example, he might be more interested in hearing what she had to say. Book two Zuko is searching for inner guidance and much more open to spiritual road signs.
Book 3 Zuko would probably not be interested, honestly. Zuko in book 3 spends a lot of time confused, but he's not looking for guidance from outside himself anymore. He's looking inward. He can't reconcile who he is with who he wants to be, and that's his big crisis. He's all about being true to himself, and no one else is going to tell him what his destiny is. And I think that remains true post canon. I do think Zuko comes out of the series more spiritually open and aware, but I think as a character he is very centered on reconciling his actions with his own beliefs, so I can't see him looking to someone else for guidance on his future.

I was thinking about Aunt Wu from Avatar the Last Airbender and then I suddenly went
Wait
Hold on
THIS IS A WORLD WHERE MAGIC IS REAL
Like. There are people who shoot lightning and dance with dragons
Sokka's first girlfriend turned into the F u c k i n g M o o n
Spirits are real and they definitely fuck with the real world
Why WOULDNT there be a genuine Divination expert walking around???
Point is, in the context of the setting, it's completely reasonable to assume Aunt Wu is the real deal.
...that village still should have kept sending someone to check the volcano though. Genuine Seer or not, divination is no substitute for common sense.

“Swindled by Aunt Wu” bestie are you being for real rn, what exactly was katara being tricked out of. not like aunt wu was charging money.
you are so desperate to pretend Katara is irresponsible and childish that you insult her character to embarrassing degrees. you are butchering her character to make her appear more romantically compatible with a child who is far beneath her in terms of life experience and maturity. embarrassing. do better.
just admit you hate her and go. i missed the days when you’d slander her for being too bossy instead because at least then you respected the fact she had to take up responsibilities.

Rare pair May, week one
Tea time!!!
The Uncle and The Aunt. His delectable tea and her special bean curd puffs.
@atlararepairmonth this pairing has zero ao3 fics. @oneatlatime mentioned it once :) (which was the inspiration, actually) and other tumblr users too, but apparently no one writes fanfiction about them.
*whisper* Great blogs, by the way, - everybody, check it out!

What is Aang's opinion on destiny?
This ask has sat in my box for well over a year, so I figured I should actually answer it. We see people talk about Aang's destiny to him or Aang talk to others about it a few times. The brief version is that for Aang, his destiny ultimately comes to mean both his duties and responsibilities as Avatar, and also something that he must actively decide and shape, instead of something which is preordained. Aang is "destined to be Avatar" and must do his best to fulfill the duty of that role, but what that looks like and entitles is up to him. It is very different from how Iroh and Zuko view destiny.
"The Storm":
Gyatso: Aang needs to have freedom and fun. He needs to grow up as a normal boy. Tashi: You cannot keep protecting him from his destiny. Pasang: Gyatso, I know you mean well, but you are letting your affection for the boy cloud your judgment. Gyatso: All I want is what is best for him. Pasang: But what we need is what's best for the world. You and Aang must be separated! The Avatar will be sent away to the Eastern Air Temple to complete his training. Aang is shown looking through a hole in the ceiling, shocked at the news that he just heard.
Destiny here is "Aang's duties as Avatar"
"The Fortuneteller":
Wu: [Her and Aang shielding their faces in surprise.] Oh my! [Cuts to shot of the bone lying in the fire and back to Aunt Wu who is fascinated.] Your destiny! This is incredible. You will be involved in a great battle, an awesome conflict between the forces of good and evil. A battle whose outcome will determine the fate of the whole world! Aang: [Casually.] Yeah, yeah, I knew that already. But did it say anything about a girl?
Destiny here is whether Aang ends up with Katara, but that's the only time we ever see Aang treat it as such.
Aang: [Disappointed.] You didn't really see love in my fortune, did you? You just told me what I wanted to hear. Wu: I'll tell you a little secret, young airbender. [Gestures to the sky.] Just as you reshaped those clouds, [Cuts to shot of Aang, who smiles; off-camera.] you have the power to shape your own destiny.
Aunt Wu tells Aang he can shape his own path.
"The Firebending Master":
Aang: Master, I need to learn firebending. Jeong Jeong: Only a fool seeks his own destruction. Aang: [To Jeong Jeong.] I'm the Avatar, it's my destiny to— [Gets interrupted.] Jeong Jeong: Destiny? What would a boy know of destiny? If a fish lives its whole life in this river, does he know the river's destiny? No! Only that it runs on and on out of his control! He may follow where it flows, but he cannot see the end. He cannot imagine the ocean. Aang: Okay, but it's the Avatar's duty to master all of the bending disciplines.
Destiny is again Aang's duty as Avatar.
"Sozin's Comet, Part II":
Aang: I need to look deep inside myself. Close-up frontal view as Aang starts meditating. Side-view of Aang as the spirit of Avatar Kuruk, a male Avatar from the Northern Water Tribe, appears before him. Kuruk: [Close-up.] I am Avatar Kuruk. [Cut to flashback to a close-up view of a younger Avatar Kuruk. The camera zooms out to show him surfing.] When I was young, I was always a go-with-the-flow kind of Avatar. [The camera pans round to follow his movements on the wave before holding steady as he surfs away.] People seemed to work out their own problems, and there was peace and good times in the world. [Cut to shot of the sun and the camera pans down to Kuruk with Ummi and they kiss.] But then, [Fade to a side-view of Koh in the Spirit World. Koh moves in front of the camera to reveal the face of Ummi.] I lost the woman I loved to Koh, the Face Stealer. [Fade back to close-up side-view of present-day Kuruk.] It was my fault. If I had been more attentive and more active, [Close-up of Aang.] I could've saved her. Aang, [Close-up of Kuruk.] you must actively shape your own destiny and the destiny of the world.
Destiny is again something Aang must actively take control of, instead of preordained path.

Berry Ball fiasco
Kya, throwing stuff out her locker: Where is it?!
Ursa: Uh looking for something?
Kya: Yes! Do you have it?
Ursa: You mean right here in my pocket?
Kya: Yes!
Ursa: No I'm just messing with you. I have no idea what we're talking about.
Kya: Ugh! I just spent the last 10 minutes ripping apart my locker for a 5 dollar bill I know I left in there!
Ursa: Hey it's just 5 dollars. No big deal.
Kya: It's a huge deal! I'm broke. I need money!
Ursa: For what?
Kya: Lots of things. Clothes, make up, special cheese, Painted Lady collectable figurines-
Ursa: Wait, why do you need special cheese?
Kya: You know I don't like regular cheese!
Ursa: Okay wanna make some money?
Kya: Yes! Maybe? How???
Ursa: Cactus juice powder.
Kya: *gasps*
Ursa: I'm kidding! My part time job at the Yogurt Joint is launching a new theme called Frozen Berry balls and my boss is looking for someone to work this Saturday. You know, hand out free samples and get people pumped up.
Kya: I can get people pumped up for Berry Balls!
Ursa: So you're in?
Kya: Yes I'm in!
Ursa: She's in!
Kya: But wait.
Ursa: She waits!
Kya: We have to perform at the concert this Saturday.
Ursa: No problem. We'll be done by 8 and ready for the show at 9.
Kya: Ok! Tell your boss they got themselves a Berry Ball girl!
___
[At the Yogurt Joint]
Kya, sneaking up on Ursa working at the counter: Hey kid where's my stupid yogurt?!
Ursa: Hey what's up little coworker!
Kya: Just ready to get start!
Ursa: Great. Aunt Wu will be here soon.
Kya, eating the toppings: Mmm what's this?
Ursa: Coconut shavings.
Kya: And this?
Ursa: Cookie crumbs.
Kya: Ohh! And what's this white stuff?
Ursa: That's what we use to clean the counter!
Kya: *chokes*
Aunt Wu: Hello ladies.... What's she doing?
Ursa: Uh, she ate some counter cleanser and now she's spitting it out.
Kya, still choking: Nice... to meet... you...
Aunt Wu: In the future, I'd appreciate if you don't choke and gag in front of the costumers.
Ursa: It's her first time eating cleanser.
Aunt Wu: Regardless, Kya today you will be giving away 1000 Berry Balls to mall costumers as they pass by. *sets up trays*
Kya: Why do they have green afros?
Aunt Wu: That's green cotton candy.
Ursa: What flavor is that?
Aunt Wu: Green.
Kya, under her breath: Cactus juice...
Aunt Wu: Now go put on your costume.
Kya: Uh sure thing. *gives Ursa a confused look*
Ursa: *shrugs*
___
Kya: *Walks out wearing a puffy green costume with a top hat*
Aunt Wu: Wonderful! What do you think Ursa dear?
Ursa: Uh...
Kya: *shakes head*
Ursa: Well, don't you think it's a bit... hideous?
Aunt Wu: How dare you! I designed it myself!
Ursa: Oh! I...um...
Kya: See these days teens say hideous when something's awesome.
Ursa: Yes like bad means good.
Aunt Wu: Oh. I see.
Aunt Wu: Ah, here come my niece. She just got braces so everyone be nice.
June: Hi Auntie.
Aunt Wu: Hello dear. How was the dentist?
June: Fine I guess. Do they look weird?
Aunt Wu: You look hideous! Don't you two think so? *winks at Kya and Ursa*
Kya, cringing: Y-Yep.
Ursa: Sure do...
June: *Cries*
Aunt Wu, leading her away: Oh sweetie. Let's go buy you some new pants.
Ursa: Well now that we've destroyed a young girl's self esteem-
Kya, sighing: Guess it's time to hand out these berry balls. 1000 to go!
Ursa, finger guns: 1000 to go!
Kya: Hey kids! Yogurt is offering free berry ball samples! Take as many as you want!
Kid: They look disgusting!
Other kid: And so do you!
Kya: *looks at Ursa shocked*
Ursa: 1000 to go!
[Later]
Ursa: If we don't leave now, we'll miss the concert.
Kya: No problem *shows empty tray* Ta-dah!
Ursa: You got rid of all 1000 berry balls?!
Kya: Yep!
Ursa: Did you throw them away?
Kya: No. *glances around* They’re in my hat!
Ursa: In you hat?!
Kya: Yeah! Let's go before-
Aunt Wu: Ladies! Oh did you give away all 1000 berry balls?
Kya: Yes ma'am.
Aunt Wu: Well done. Let me pay you now.
Kya: Oh you don't have to-
Aunt Wu, writing a check: I insist! You did your job and deserve payment.
*Berry balls start melting in Kya’s hat and running down her face*
Ursa and Kya: !!!
Ursa: *frantically wipes Kya's face behind Aunt Wu's back*
Aunt Wu: 100$ for Kya Kaji. Is that spelled with an i or an y...?
Ursa and Kya: *fake smile*
Aunt Wu: What’s happening?
Kya: Uh...
Ursa: She’s crying!
Kya, dramatic: I-I'm just so happy to be getting $100!
Ursa: That her mascara is running!
Kya: *sobs*
Aunt Wu:
Aunt Wu: How much mascara are you wearing?!
Ursa: Oh my! I better take her to the mascara doctor asap! *picks Kya up and runs off*
Kya, still fake crying: My emotions!!!
