We as a society should talk more about the rougarou. Catholic guilt werewolves.... you feast instead of fast and thus your hunger becomes your fault. *You’ve* done this to your appetite, let it bloat with unclean food, let your eucharistic go from the Son’s body and blood to your brother’s. Your stomach is full but you’ll never be fulfilled again.
There is no word for ‘man’ in rougarou— not like in werewolf. The latter implies that its a transformation into a beast. The former says that you’ve been a dog from the start. Inner skin becoming outer skin. I think I’m dehydrated
#werewolf#GOD i have gyatt to turn this into actual stuff and not just yap abt if#rougarou#loup garou#ex religious southernqueers let go of the vampires!!!!#forget Lestat LA’s got this funky guy displayed in the Audubon zoo

i hate zoos 90% of the time and will always prefer wildlife sanctuaries and rehab centers but this is still so true. you cannot in the same breath claim to care about these animals and also utterly disregard their actual needs.
doing so shows us nothing but your own ignorance and cruelty. go plant a tree and build a bat box if you really care about conservation, or donate to the fucking audubon society.

Went to the zoo today and was surprised to see like no one there, many with Eagles and Chiefs merch tho! Also saw a little girl with pink cowboy boots and an Eras Tour dress!

Hi! I really appreciate this blog, and it's also been a big inspiration for me to return to school so that I may one day become a wildlife biologist, too! May I ask what other steps (besides obtaining degrees) are helpful to achieving this goal? Are internships and volunteer work required for success in the workforce? Is it important to publish research? Thank you ^-^
Wildlife biology experience:
I can only tell you what I did, and what I have found important personally. Besides just getting a degree, you need to get as much experience as possible.
OK I would volunteer as much as you possibly can in zoology and wildlife biology projects either through local universities nature centers and organizations. Internships and seasonal work can be a way that you can get some of this experience without being already a wildlife biologist, biologist, or zoologist.
have a look at volunteer opportunities at your local zoo, nature center, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, whatever your state wildlife department is… Your local Audubon Society, the Nature Conservancy, groups like that.

Animal of the Day!
Passenger Pigeon (Ectopistes migratorius)
(Photo from Atlas Obscura)
Extinction Date- 1914
Habitat- Eastern United States
Size (Weight/Length)- 200 g; 40 cm
Diet- Nuts; seeds; Berries; Insects; Worms
Cool Facts- Imagine the sky so full of birds that it seemed like night. That’s how John James Audubon described the migration of the passenger pigeon. In the 1800s, passenger pigeons were one of America’s most abundant birds. These huge flocks would feast on acorns, beechnuts, and chestnuts, spreading millions of seeds. Their communal breeding colonies would cause branches to snap by the weight of thousands of birds. When a ‘resource’ seems endless to humans, they always find a way to exploit it. Passenger pigeons were slaughtered in the millions for their feathers to be used in pillows and their meat. Extinction was not defined when the passenger pigeon began their decline. In 1895, the last egg was taken from the wild as a museum specimen and the last wild individual was purposefully shot in 1896. In 1902, the last captive bred passenger pigeon was given to the Cincinnati Zoo, her name being Martha. Martha passed away in 1914 and with her, an entire species.
Rating- 13/10 (One of the most important historical lessons in conservation.)

tell us abt your favorite place you've ever traveled!
Siiiigh my ass tried to answer this and my phone just said no and deleted it ig. Trying again it was a long reply so I might be shortening it
But growing up poor i did a decent amount of traveling but not to many places.
I was mostly traveling from Texas with my mom to Missouri to stay with my Nana lol. Most of my life has been in these two states. And iv been living outside of Texas for round 8 years now. I really do miss it
Im currently returning from a trip to NOLA and I always have a blast when I got. It's of the places iv gone more as an asult
As a kid I have been to Oregon and it was beautiful but I was just there as a kid for a weekend for a wedding lol.
Then I also had one trip to Florida a special special treat from my Nana to go Disney. It was mostly for my uncles 19th birthday so I was probably 8 or 9. I don't remember a lot except spinning my Nana so fast on the tea cups and her immediatly have a heat stroke and having to lay down for a minute. Also my uncle getting water lodge up his sinuses and screaming in pain throughout the day including when they were bringing him our a cake and singing happy birthday lol. Also I remember watching him walk right into a glass door, just watched it happen lol. Probably just wanted to see it happen
But NOLA really is great, just a lovely area. Suuuuch good food goodness. I miss living in the south for the food culture. Living in the 'food belt' its such a scam its all the same shit, no variety unless you going out to the city which i don't got the know how, time or money lol
I also got to see the Audubon zoo during my trip! Haven't seen it since I went for my birthday as a teen, such a fun zoo.
Look at my zoo picture blast!!!

I just remembered some stuff I was scared of as a kid, and looking back, it's pretty funny.
As a kid, I genuinely believed the rougarou was going to eat me and that the one at the zoo was real. I always hid when we walked through that part of the Audubon Zoo and never made eye contact cause I thought it would come to life 😭
My pawpaw and uncles had me scared silly, saying it would come find me...
#i also believed id get jumped by vampires in New Orleans if i looked away from the cemeteries as we passed them#alena's yapping corner
