I know I mostly deal in fluff but hear me out.

Imagine Tommy going down in a helicopter crash, similar in nature to the one Owen and Hen have in the crossover episode. Right down into an active forest fire, no gps, no radio, no backup. Just him and the flames and a few broken bones.

Now imagine Buck, at home, knowing Tommy is on scene at the fire upstate and keeping the news on while he does chores, cooking dinner, maybe even babysitting Jee-Yun so Maddie and Chimney can have a date night.

He has his mac and cheese half way out of the oven when the news anchor of the hour reports on the presumed death of one firefighter who went down in a helicopter just moments earlier. Ear ringing, heart racing, mind spinning as he sees the footage of the helicopter Tommy sent him a selfie in front of earlier plummeting into a flame filled valley hours away.

Before he can even stop to turn off the oven, Bobby is calling him and Hen is texting the station group chat, but all Buck can think about is his Tommy, his boyfriend dying alone in the middle of the helicopter they met inside.

And Tommy? He’s limping towards high ground, up the side of the valley away from the fire line, praying to the smoke filled sky that the casual peck he gave Evan before leaving the loft that morning wouldn’t be the last, even as the fire rages around him and his adrenaline begins to dwindle.

ATV driver found dead after elderly man is struck while putting up Trump sign

The 80-year-old victim was struck by an ATV in his yard, and a 22-year-old who later reported being involved in an ATV incident was found dead by suicide, officials said.

After an 80-year-old man was struck by an ATV while he was putting up a Trump sign in his yard in Michigan on Sunday, a 22-year-old man called authorities saying he was involved, then killed himself, officials said.

An ATV driver ran over the elderly man in Hancock at 5:45 p.m. following other vandalism incidents appearing to target those expressing support for former President Donald Trump or law enforcement, authorities there said.

On Monday, a 22-year-old man contacted Hancock police and said he wanted to “confess a crime involving an ATV driver within the last 24 hours," the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The man asked someone to respond to his home in Quincy Township, the sheriff's office said, where deputies found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The ATV, also known as an all-terrain vehicle, believed to be involved in the crash was also found, as was clothing the suspect had been described as wearing, the office said.

Authorities did not identify the 22-year-old man.

The victim struck by the ATV was in critical condition, Hancock police said.

Statements from the police department and the sheriff’s office did not identify the nature of the political sign the victim was putting up when he was struck.

But Hancock police said that there were three incidents — two involving vandalism to vehicles — believed to be connected and carried out by someone in an ATV and that they appeared to target those expressing support for Trump or law enforcement.

The sheriff's office said the victims had displayed Trump election signs or "thin blue line" stickers and flags.

The sheriff's office said it and the Hancock Police Department were still investigating the case.

Hancock is a small city of around 5,000 in northwestern Michigan, in the state’s Upper Peninsula.

You Did What Over Winter Break?! (Lando Norris/Oscar Piastri, 900 words, drabble)

Jon storms into the hospital room like a man possessed, eyes wide and hair on end. He stops at the foot of Lando’s bed, eyes flickering between his face – oddly relaxed –, his reset and casted leg, and his hands. More aptly, his and Oscar’s hands, fingers intertwined and resting on the thin hospital sheets. 

Oscar flashes him a closed lipped smile from his place beside Lando’s bed; Lando doesn’t even look at him, blown pupils trained on Oscar’s profile. 

“I –” He says, somehow at a loss for what to ask first. “What the fuck?”

“Broken ankle –” Oscar responds, cut off by Lando before he can elaborate further. 

“I almost died, actually…” He starts, the words over dramatic and loud. 

Lando smiled as Oscar hesitantly climbed onto the back of his ATV, sitting as far back in the seat as possible. He could practically feel the nerves radiating off of him, back stiff and shoulders up by his ears. 

“Too much for you?” He teased, passing a helmet back before securing his own. Oscar rolled his eyes and followed suit. 

“Track looks fine,” Oscar said, peering around Lando to peak at the dirt trail ahead of them – moderate jumps at best, he’d seen better back home. “You driving? Different story, mate.”

“I resent that.” Lando scoffed, turning back to the front and testing his grip on the clutch. “Hold on tight, I don’t bite.” He felt Oscar shift his weight forward slightly, sliding down the seat until they slotted together; Oscar felt big against his back, the few centimeters difference between them somehow so apparent as he pressed his chest against his shoulder blades – wrapped his arms around his waist.  

Had they ever really, full blown hugged before? 

“Gonna wait all day?” 

“Shut it,” Lando smiled beneath his helmet, face hot at Oscar’s voice so close to his ear, and tore towards the first jump. 

“You crashed your ATV?” Jon interrupts, stress pitching his voice higher than Oscar had ever heard it. “We’ve talked about you riding those, mate, I just –”

“We didn’t crash, first of all…”

“Is it meant to storm like this in the winter?” Lando asked, the two of them hiding under a scraggly tree alongside the track. The packed dirt quickly turned to mud as the heavens opened above them, making even the more sloping corners too slick to take safely. 

“Well it’s summer down here, so.” Oscar bumped their shoulders together, just a bit mocking.

“Fucking Aussies,” He grumbled, crossing his arms and looking distinctly away from Oscar and his shiteating grin. It would be endearing, and he knew it would make him blush, so he cut his losses and looked up at the rain. 

The clouds looked infinitely darker, growing heavy and angry before his eyes, when he heard it: a roll of thunder nearby, so close that it reverberated in his teeth. 

“Jesus Chri–” Oscar jumped, cut off when lighting struck down immediately after, splitting the tree behind them. Lando moved fast, pushing Oscar away as the tree gave way, falling directly onto –

“You got hit by a tree?” Jon sounds moments from a panic attack, eyes flashing between the boys with renewed fervor.

Lando didn’t get out of the way in time, lower leg pinned to the ground by a massive branch. He couldn’t get enough traction on the mud to pull himself away even if he wanted to, the rain continuing to pool around him. Something may have snapped, it may have been another roll of thunder, but Lando could feel it shooting up his leg like wildfire.

“Oscar?!” He called out, voice panicked and clearly fueled by pure adrenaline. 

“I’m right here,” Oscar popped into his field of vision, soaked hair falling over his eyes as he leaned over Lando’s field of vision. With delicate, shaking hands, he held Lando’s head still – keeping him focused on his face. “I’m gonna go get help, ok? Just don’t — don’t move.”

“Wait! Wait,” Lando blurts out, rushed and urgent. Oscar stills, hands still in Lando’s muddied hair and eyes still trained on him. “If I don’t make it, I just. I love you, yeah?” 

“What?” Jon’s looking directly at Oscar now, then back down to their intertwined hands. 

“I was dying, Jon, I couldn’t just not –”

“You weren’t dying,” Oscar cuts him off with a stern look, the hint of a smile fighting to come out. Apparently ready to put Jon out of his misery, Oscar clears his throat. “We were playing paintball, actually, and Lando tried to jump off one of the obstacles –”

“I did jump, not ‘tried’.”

“Sure. Lando did jump off an obstacle and slipped. Broke his ankle, got two…?” He looks over at Lando, who nods in agreement. “Yeah, two pins.”

“And the…?” Jon asks, motioning ambiguously towards their hands. 

“Yeah no, he actually did that. Crying and everything.”

“I wasn’t crying,” Lando defends with a pout, Oscar can’t help but laugh at him, throwing his head back. 

“Sorry, you were ‘just so in love’,” Oscar quotes, tightening his grip on Lando’s hand and brushing his hair back with the other. Jon stares, wide eyed, aware that he’s becoming an intrusion to a moment that feels significantly too private to be happening in a hospital. 

“Right then, I’ll just… doctor. Yeah, talk to the doctor.” He stutters out, drawing the attention of neither Oscar nor Lando in the process. Lando’s whispering something in Oscar’s ear by the time he rushes out of the room, the other blushing deeply and choking back a laugh.

Kaidan: listen, everyone who claims Canadians are so polite and demure has never seen one drive. years of pent up anger come out when Kaidan drives. no where near as bad as Zaeed, he still follows the rules and laws. extremely animated when raging, and comes up with the most creative insults.

Garrus: as much as garrus loves to rib Shepard about their driving, he's barely any better. his time at c-sec at least drilled basic rules of the road into him, but he's still an asshole who'll cut people off.

Thane: prefers to drive in complete silence, maybe plays some white noise while he drives. do not try talking to him he's not listening. very careful on the road, hasn't been in an accident once.

Jacob: generally a good driver, just doesn't use his turn signals. good at multitasking while driving, so talking, listening to the radio, eating, he can do it. will gladly take the role of designated driver

Mordin: I think he hates driving, he get too in his own thoughts and forgets he's driving. would rather let shepard drive than do the driving

Zaeed: worst driver here. worse than Shepard in that he doesn't even try to follow the rules of the road. his road rage is horrific, has fully gotten out of his car to fist fight someone. would drive a pickup with trucknuts.

Cortez: best driver here. very relaxed when driving, very in his element. this man is a Saint on the road, not an ounce of road rage in his body

Vega: it's a miracle he hasn't been killed, he never wears a seatbelt, never uses his turn signals, and pulls illegal turns all the time. drives with his windows open and radio absolutely blasting music.

Joker: would be the best driver if he wasn't such a jackass. regularly flips off other drivers he thinks are being stupid. thinks he's the best driver on the road, and he is, just don't tell him that

Jaal: has an angaran license, though I don't think he drives a traditional vehicle. more along the lines of some sort of atv or motorcycle type thing. a good driver, has definitely modified his vehicle.

Liam: I honestly don't think he has a license. he prefers public transit or to let other people drive. he's not that great of a driver when he does though.

Gil: has zooped up his car and treats it like his baby. will not let anyone else drive it, ESPECIALLY not Ryder. will fight someone if they hit his car. follows the rules of the road religiously.

Reyes: Street races, will try and goad other people into street racing. has lost his license multiple times. amazingly enough has never crashed.
