‘Fuck - fuck - !’

Of course it was a tradition for the task-force to have their own version of the hunting drill every few months, you thought, as you sprinted at full pelt through the snow.

You were lucky that you were smaller, and thus lighter, than the skull-masked man haring after you. The snow was deep, and soft, allowing yourself to skip straight over the top, watching as Ghost slowly sunk deeper and deeper into the snow, growling curses.

‘Cheers, LT,’ you grinned, then disappeared.

Ghost had been a little warmer towards you recently. That was fine - you knew he wasn’t used to the mess of emotions you called your relationship. The big man struggled to thank his soldiers after a mission - you’d cut him some slack, for now.

Besides - being able to rile him up was your favourite pastime, and this was just the perfect excuse.

You saw a figure in the distance, darting in and out of the shadows. He looked like the silhouette of Kyle Garrick, your second sergeant. Going against the other soldiers in your task force meant you’d need to focus and play the long game - but you knew Ghost would be putting some extra effort in. He’d want to get you alone.

Your pace slowed to a walk, then to almost a sneak - you’d spotted the tawny smudge of a fox creeping through the underbrush.

You gave a piercing whistle, and it turned, but too slowly. Your practiced hands wrung its neck and soon enough, the heat was already draining from its body.

You slung it over your shoulder and vaulted up into the lower branches of a tree. Now… you wait.

Darkness fell, all without any notification from the small screen on your wrist. It was supposed to vibrate when a soldier was caught - meaning all three other men were still holding out.

Then, suddenly -

The sound of a body crashing through the scraggly bushes made you sit up, on full alert. Then, a gruff voice -

‘Gotcha, Johnny.’

You bit your lip in excitement as your wristwatch buzzed softly. Johnny lit his flare, grumbling what you assumed were obscenities in Gaelic, before the sounds of an ATV could be heard, and then, there was silence.

Muffled footsteps you could only hear because of the crunch of unblemished snow slowly grew closer.

Ghost was almost directly underneath you when you let the fox drop, the small animal’s body falling silently and landing with a delicate flump on the ground.

Blood soaked the snow scarlet.

Ghost swore in surprise, before his head whipped up to glare at you.

‘You stay there, little fox,’ he growled. ‘I’ll be back for you.’

I know I mostly deal in fluff but hear me out.

Imagine Tommy going down in a helicopter crash, similar in nature to the one Owen and Hen have in the crossover episode. Right down into an active forest fire, no gps, no radio, no backup. Just him and the flames and a few broken bones.

Now imagine Buck, at home, knowing Tommy is on scene at the fire upstate and keeping the news on while he does chores, cooking dinner, maybe even babysitting Jee-Yun so Maddie and Chimney can have a date night.

He has his mac and cheese half way out of the oven when the news anchor of the hour reports on the presumed death of one firefighter who went down in a helicopter just moments earlier. Ear ringing, heart racing, mind spinning as he sees the footage of the helicopter Tommy sent him a selfie in front of earlier plummeting into a flame filled valley hours away.

Before he can even stop to turn off the oven, Bobby is calling him and Hen is texting the station group chat, but all Buck can think about is his Tommy, his boyfriend dying alone in the middle of the helicopter they met inside.

And Tommy? He’s limping towards high ground, up the side of the valley away from the fire line, praying to the smoke filled sky that the casual peck he gave Evan before leaving the loft that morning wouldn’t be the last, even as the fire rages around him and his adrenaline begins to dwindle.

(Buck promptly asks Lucy a favor in getting him, Bobby, Hen, and Chim up to the fire as quick as possible and Tommy finds himself in between two boulders that shield him from the flames as the wind shifts away from him, leaving him stranded but thankfully alive for a full day before he hears the sound of some ATVs and familiar voices nearby.)

ATV driver found dead after elderly man is struck while putting up Trump sign

The 80-year-old victim was struck by an ATV in his yard, and a 22-year-old who later reported being involved in an ATV incident was found dead by suicide, officials said.

After an 80-year-old man was struck by an ATV while he was putting up a Trump sign in his yard in Michigan on Sunday, a 22-year-old man called authorities saying he was involved, then killed himself, officials said.

An ATV driver ran over the elderly man in Hancock at 5:45 p.m. following other vandalism incidents appearing to target those expressing support for former President Donald Trump or law enforcement, authorities there said.

On Monday, a 22-year-old man contacted Hancock police and said he wanted to “confess a crime involving an ATV driver within the last 24 hours," the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The man asked someone to respond to his home in Quincy Township, the sheriff's office said, where deputies found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The ATV, also known as an all-terrain vehicle, believed to be involved in the crash was also found, as was clothing the suspect had been described as wearing, the office said.

Authorities did not identify the 22-year-old man.

The victim struck by the ATV was in critical condition, Hancock police said.

Statements from the police department and the sheriff’s office did not identify the nature of the political sign the victim was putting up when he was struck.

But Hancock police said that there were three incidents — two involving vandalism to vehicles — believed to be connected and carried out by someone in an ATV and that they appeared to target those expressing support for Trump or law enforcement.

The sheriff's office said the victims had displayed Trump election signs or "thin blue line" stickers and flags.

The sheriff's office said it and the Hancock Police Department were still investigating the case.

Hancock is a small city of around 5,000 in northwestern Michigan, in the state’s Upper Peninsula.

Kaidan: listen, everyone who claims Canadians are so polite and demure has never seen one drive. years of pent up anger come out when Kaidan drives. no where near as bad as Zaeed, he still follows the rules and laws. extremely animated when raging, and comes up with the most creative insults.

Garrus: as much as garrus loves to rib Shepard about their driving, he's barely any better. his time at c-sec at least drilled basic rules of the road into him, but he's still an asshole who'll cut people off.

Thane: prefers to drive in complete silence, maybe plays some white noise while he drives. do not try talking to him he's not listening. very careful on the road, hasn't been in an accident once.

Jacob: generally a good driver, just doesn't use his turn signals. good at multitasking while driving, so talking, listening to the radio, eating, he can do it. will gladly take the role of designated driver

Mordin: I think he hates driving, he get too in his own thoughts and forgets he's driving. would rather let shepard drive than do the driving

Zaeed: worst driver here. worse than Shepard in that he doesn't even try to follow the rules of the road. his road rage is horrific, has fully gotten out of his car to fist fight someone. would drive a pickup with trucknuts.

Cortez: best driver here. very relaxed when driving, very in his element. this man is a Saint on the road, not an ounce of road rage in his body

Vega: it's a miracle he hasn't been killed, he never wears a seatbelt, never uses his turn signals, and pulls illegal turns all the time. drives with his windows open and radio absolutely blasting music.

Joker: would be the best driver if he wasn't such a jackass. regularly flips off other drivers he thinks are being stupid. thinks he's the best driver on the road, and he is, just don't tell him that

Jaal: has an angaran license, though I don't think he drives a traditional vehicle. more along the lines of some sort of atv or motorcycle type thing. a good driver, has definitely modified his vehicle.

Liam: I honestly don't think he has a license. he prefers public transit or to let other people drive. he's not that great of a driver when he does though.

Gil: has zooped up his car and treats it like his baby. will not let anyone else drive it, ESPECIALLY not Ryder. will fight someone if they hit his car. follows the rules of the road religiously.

Reyes: Street races, will try and goad other people into street racing. has lost his license multiple times. amazingly enough has never crashed.

Harbour Grace RCMP are investigating the crash of an ATV into a home in Victoria on Monday.

RCMP were called around 5:30 p.m. after a machine crashed into a home on Church Road.

The homeowner contacted police, but was unable to identify the driver before they left the scene.

Did I give O'Connor a phobia that I have... Yes do I care, no! Having perfect characters is so boring! I'm currently cleaning out my drafts I promise I'll start writing my story soon!

O'Connor has never liked riding in cars, very specifically cars. She can handle being on a boat going at top speed, she can handle being in a helicopter making evasion maneuvers, hell shes loved the few times she's driven a motorcycle or ATV. But for whatever reason she hates being in cars, a small part of her knows it is trauma from being in the car crash that killed her mother and crippled her father. But even before the accident she hated being in those vehicles.

Price learned early on into his deployment with Sergeant O'Connor not to put her behind the wheel or near the front. He sees how she clams up, trying her best not to shake like a leaf. She'll never admit it nor argue against driving when told too. Hell there's been a few times where her twitchiness behind the wheel has saved his and his team's asses. That doesn't mean he won't do his damnedest to keep her in the back away from the windows.

Ghost notices his new Captain is a bit nervous, it radiates off her in waves. She was fine up until they had to get into the dingy little pickup, he noticed her hesitation to drive like a deer ready to run at the faintest sound. She only calmed a little when Ghost got into the driver's seat, but her leg is bouncing so hard she might punch a hole through the rusty bottom of the truck. And when he asked if something was wrong, she was short and clipped. The polar opposite of how she interacted with him this entire mission, it's their first time on the field together. It's just them and yet she's never once steamed rolled over him like all his other captains have... Wel not Price but everyone else. No instead she asked for his opinion on every major decision and she actually listens to his suggestions adding to them or just going with them. He's worried but it soon disappears as they reach their stop, he watches her basically bolt out of the truck as soon as it stops. And only then does it dawn on him why the sudden change and he relaxes again.

Gaz is an excellent driver, he knows this, it's a point of pride for him. So he's a bit miffed when he notices the doctor gripping the oh-shit handle for dear life as he speeds through snowy hills of middle of nowhere Canada. He's used to seeing people smiling and enjoying themselves when he drives like this. There's no danger chasing after to warrant this kind of stress from O'Connor but it's there. He slows a bit much to the disappointment of himself and Roach who sat in the back. He watches as O'Connor calms a bit from the corner of his eye and he feels a little hurt. It isn't until he watches her when someone else is driving does it click, it's not just him... Though his speed didn't seem to help.

Roach finds it very odd that at every chance she gets O'Connor sits in the back seats, even though she would be far more comfortable in the front. It baffles him every time she gives the seat to someone else including himself but he's never one to look a gift horse in the mouth. It isn't until Soap and Gaz spell it out to him does he notice the panic she holds in her body even in the back seats. He takes it upon himself to distract the doctor while in transit. He's had varying degrees of success but he's noticed a pattern. When O'Connor can't see the road she's calmer, prefers to not have a window to see outside. He does his best to help her on the more stressful drives, it's only fair she's helped him with a million of his own fears.

Soap is a smart man, he's also observant, despite what people think. So he picks up on O'Connor's tension when she's riding with himself, Ghost, Alejandro, and Rudy through Las Almas. At first he thought it was due to being in a car full of men but he quickly wrote that off as soon as they met the rest of Alejandro's team. Her tension was slow to creep in when they're driving and it's only when they're in the cars. He thought it was interesting how well she handled everything else but as soon as they started driving it was tension. He also knows she calms a bit when they speak gaelic, much to the chagrin of their traveling companions. But if it helped his friend calm down then he'll deal with the confused stares.

The boys all agree behind O'Connor's back that if given the option they won't drive, if they have to she gets the middle seat and either Roach or Soap are to sit next to her. Price feels a bit of fatherly pride when they bring it up to him, knowing they're willing to help O'Connor the best they can without being told outright to do so.
