What are your thoughts on Ben/Looma or Ben/Attea?

Well, I think it should be obvious that I, personally, don't ship either. I've touched on the reasons why before in this essay. 

But, I guess I'll elaborate. 

First of all, I don't usually ship Ben with someone when I can tell that he isn't too fond of the idea himself. 

Let’s start with the whole forced marriage thing in Looma’s case...

As you can see in the screenshot above, literally none of Kevin’s friends were too fond of allowing that to happen to him. I mean, why would they be? 

So, Ben, being one of those who wouldn't want to let it happen, steps in to help him because, presumably, Ben wouldn't want it to happen to himself either.

Would that not imply that Ben wouldn’t want to be shipped with Looma?

I can understand that things like Looma’s strength and personality appeal to some people, but realize that she is very aggressive by nature. 

The same thing could be said for Attea when she is armed and has backup. Maybe it’s just me, but it also most seems as though, if we are to put Ben in a relationship with either of them, it may become physically abusive. He doesn’t need to put up with that. 

However, I will say that Looma might even have had a little more affection (in her own way) for Ben in comparison to Attea.

But, then again, the whole calling him “beloved” thing is strange when, eventually, she blurts out that she doesn’t “want him” any more. 

Makes you wonder how “beloved” he really was. Or, was it just a figure of speech? 

Not only that, but, similarly to Kai, Looma and Attea both prefer Ben as a Tetramand or Incursean, respectively. This is shown by them both fighting over the device to transform him into either form in “Catfight”, and then being visibly disgusted or displeased when he is turned into something which they do not particularly like.

Not to mention that quite...’cringey’ “yes, Bullfrag, my love” line from Attea which was stated just moments from “I don’t want him!” again, directed at Ben while he is in human form.

As I mentioned in the essay I linked above, many of Ben’s love interests had the same problem - not seeming to know what they want. Being hot and cold.

And, these two are an extreme example of that because they are more than just indecisive. They are impulsive and reckless. These are things that Ben himself is also accused of being (as I go over in that essay), but, as I’m sure should be obvious considering the way Ben always finds a solution to the conflict in any given situation, Looma and Attea’s impulsive, reckless, selfish, and irresponsible attitudes are dangerous since they are supposed to be leaders of their own respective kingdoms, empires or armadas.

In this particular episode, they made it seem like Ben’s good deeds, namely helping Kevin out of his previous engagement to Looma in “Many Happy Returns”, and returning just in time to stop the Incursean invasion in “The Frogs of War”, should just be glossed over and forgotten because, now, he’s supposed to be seen as some kind of “philanderer” who’s got all these women out of their minds chasing after him.

But what does Ben himself say about that?

Something quite mature, reasonable, and level-headed, if you asked me. 

Ben: “Listen to yourselves. You’ve both defeated me at some point or other. Neither of you need some trophy guy hanging on your arm. You’re both strong, capable leaders on your own. And it’s high time your four-armed and froggy followers respectively, well, respected that.”

So, I’m sorry, but I can’t ship Ben with girls who I don’t really think deserve him.

Silhouette Challenge - #7

Our seventh character is:

All hail Princess Attea, light of the Incursean empire, destroyer of galaxies, keeper of the conquest ray, all beings tremble--(knocked out by the smell of burning rubber)

Bit of a mix on interpretations. Character-wise and costume-wise, it's OV, but in terms of actual age and dynamics with the rest of the cast, it's UAF.

But one of the main things I aimed for was designing her to better reflect Incursean physiology. All the males of the species look like frogs with sunken eyes, but Attea (the only female Incursean that I think we've seen) has none of those features. You could misinform someone completely uninitiated in Ben 10 lore that Attea was a mutant like Toad, and they'd probably believe you.

So this was my attempt to give her some more alien features. Plus a Skrull chin, cuz I thought that was fun.
