A cigarette case that @kharrisdawndancer gave her many years ago, shortly after Lily returned... a changed woman. In the face of so much rejection from so many others she looked up to/cared for, Kharris was one of the very few who stood by her, and the words that their crew had sworn by: "Once crew, always crew." And this motto is also inscribed inside the cigarette case - a sort of bittersweet reminder of a found-family that's more of a 'lost-family,' these days. That, and a constant reminder that she's really torn on whether or not she should reach out to K - as much as she would like to, she's always felt like a burden to the people around her... and showing back up in someone's life after a long time away could just cause more harm than good.

There's a flash of a fanged grin... and a lazy shrug to follow, "I don't know, rather mundane things like 'being accepted as I am'... but then, everyone else isn't literally half a demon, when they ask for acceptance. It's a different kind of ask, in my case. To be at peace with who and what I am? I guess? I don't sit around and harbor secret desires - I go fullfill them when the time and place is right. So what I'm left with are things like 'I'd like some friends who accept me' and 'maybe a lover who isn't freaked out by what I am', and that sort of thing. Those are much more difficult things to fulfill than the spicy things most other people tend to bottle up, and hide away." A softly-heaved sigh accompanies the slackening of her shoulders, and a soft grimace, "I guess I wish most of all... that... that a very specific someone would forgive me. Accept me back. My personal headcanon for the WH Mirror World is that Ishmael agreed to be a maid under the Edgar Family because she knew the heir was a sickly waif of a man who would probably croak from TB in a decade or two and she can train up to face Ahab in that amount of time, but unfortunately she got really attached to the sickly waif of a man she was banking on dying young.

Rough weather last three days, and all hands busy with sails—no time to be frightened. 

It's really good that there is a mention of how when it comes to work in a precarious enviroment like a ship, people simply don't have the option to abandone their duties because of a fright, or in this case a dead crewmate.

It sounds cruel since the crew, and the captain have to pretty much ignore the situation in order to get into the heavy rhythm of sailing, but when it comes to working there is no choice. The Demeter won't pilot herself all alone.

All well.

Enjoy this little moment of peace captain, something tells me that what comes next won't be good.
