#Sometimes work can literally make you forget stuff then after you finished the stuff™ hits you worse

Rough weather last three days, and all hands busy with sails—no time to be frightened. 

It's really good that there is a mention of how when it comes to work in a precarious enviroment like a ship, people simply don't have the option to abandone their duties because of a fright, or in this case a dead crewmate.

It sounds cruel since the crew, and the captain have to pretty much ignore the situation in order to get into the heavy rhythm of sailing, but when it comes to working there is no choice. The Demeter won't pilot herself all alone.
