The Dai Li give jet to Iroh verse

1. One day, a flier lands on the street in front of Pao's Family Tea Shop, and Zuko picks it up. He takes in the information, about the missing bison, and completely misses the fact that it actually has an address on it, and makes his plans. That night, he sneaks out, wearing all black except for a theater mask of a monster. He lays a trap and ambushes a Dai Li agent, forcing him to open the way to the Dai Li's secret base. And in the dark, unbeknownst to Zuko or his erstwhile captive, Jet follows.

2. This Li kid is terrifying, Jet thinks to himself as he follows him into the depths of the Dai Li secret base beneath Lake Laogai. No wonder he thought he would make a good member of his gang. He's probably some kind of highly trained Fire Nation super spy. Then Li reaches his quarry, an extremely familiar sky bison. Oh shit, he wonders. What has he stumbled into.

3. The answer comes sooner than Jet could have ever expected, when Old Man Mushi shows up and calls Li by his name. Which isn't Li. It's Prince Zuko. Now Jet is really freaking out. When they leave, without the bison, Jet slips out behind them and bolts for their apartment in the lower ring. He throws a blanket over himself and pretends to be asleep when they come home not long after. Old Man Mushi, who called Prince Zuko his nephew, gently wakes him and tells him they have to get ready for work.

4. The three of them stumble exhausted through work that day, it's a good thing Zuko and Mushi are just as tired as he is, or they would have noticed that he's not acting like a boy who got a good night's sleep while they were out doing super secret royal Fire Nation business.

5. That night, they sleep heavily, much more heavily than they ever have before. And Jet is so tired. He hasn't slept in a day and a half, but he sneaks out, and when Longshot and Smellerbee come to him, he leads them into the apartment complex's empty courtyard, underneath the washing lines, and tells them what he saw and heard under Lake Laogai.

So, apparently Smellerbee was a trans icon this whole time, and I just never noticed.

And I love how Iroh immediately realises his mistake and corrects himself

And how Longshot is non-verbal, yet Smellerbee understands him perfectly! This is clearly a conversation they've had a thousand times, which indicates an unreal amount of trust between these two

aang

-unlabelled or pansexual, also incredibly gnc. he/they methinks

-he never questioned it, he never thought about it. the air nomads were chill with everything, so he was too.

-he simply loves people, and he loves them deeply. he's the sort of person who says "i love you" very fast. and he doesn't have a specific type, either. he simply connects with people.

-he definitely had a bit of a thing for kuzon back in the day. kuzon taught him all the fire nation dances he knows, and bumi cheered them on.

-he also kinda digged teo, the mechanist's son, but by that point he already had his heart set on katara.

-as for girls, he DID like on-ji. in different circumstances, they would might have dated for a short while. but with katara it was love at first sight. the sort that makes you giddy and stupid.

-he's a lot worse at rizzing up katara because he is just THAT into her and he keeps fumbling

-growing up, she never really questioned it. she knew she definitely liked boys and never had feelings for another girl.

-she's certainly fully cisgender. happily says “she/her/hers” when asked for her pronouns

-on the contrary, she was somewhat attracted to haru and jet both—and might've even considered zuko in different circumstances. like she definitely felt something akin to attraction in the crossroads of destiny.

-she always thought of herself as straight but said that, if she had the chance, she would be willing to kiss a girl—as an experiment. she just sort of always admired pretty girls, in the sense of "do i wanna BE her or DATE her,"

-at the end she decides to keep it all behind closed doors as per water tribe tradition. she's happy with aang, some girls are hot, it's nobody's business but her own.

-he fell for yue, he fell for suki. he definitely found like, ty lee attractive, but he didn't LIKE her. He was involved with suki, and they hadn't had any conversation about the exact status of their relationship so he wasn't about to fumble it.

-suki and him are both bi. and if yue were alive they'd BOTH be dating her. at the same time.

-zuko was sokka's bi awakening. seeing zuko and suki run around in the boiling rock absolutely changed his brain chemistry.

-he had a hard time accepting it, because of how the water tribes roll. he had a preconceived notion of manhood that he obviously had to challenge alongside his initial sexism.

-but then he realised that 1) his dad had been in a secret poly relationship with kya and bato, and then with bato and malina-- 2) his grandma had a fling with hama--3) master piandao and jeong jeongwere a thing--and 4) his girlfriend herself, suki, was bi. so bro had nothing to worry about.

-his identity became clear to him with suki's and his father's help. unlike katara, he was a bit more open and public with it. being poly, him and suki had many opportunities to explore it, always respecting each other's boundaries.

-sometimes suki does his makeup and he grows to enjoy it. he experiments with gender expression until he becomes totally chill with it.

-big part of his character is learning that he doesn't have to be a “man” in the way that patriarchy imposed on him his whole life

-toph has crushes on boys: sokka, zuko, the duke, satoru, sun, kanto. but i think non of them are really legit.

-toph would also flirt with girls, like, yaling

-had a 'not like other girls' phase

-she/they/he vibes, has a very complicated relationship with gender

-because she was made fun off by other girls as a child, it was harder for her to blend in and talk with them

-she was also raised sheltered within the walls of aristocracy which contributed to her not thinking about it

-so she's unlabelled and perhaps in the aro spectrum. like, demisexual. but being both demi (aka needing to like someone as a person and getting to know them before feeling attracted to them) AND having commitment issues and a bunch of failed relationships is like, a DEADLY combo.

-the gaang made him realise that it's totally okay and since they are all so queer he felt very safe with them

-made gay marriage legal in the fire nation

-made pride a thing in the fire nation inspired by the rainbow fire because i said so

-definitely felt attracted to both jet and sokka in the guy department.

-now, when it cames to girls, mai was his childhood crush.

-he definitely found song attractive but he was NOT in that headspace obviously

-same thing with jin although he was in a better headspace then. he introduced jin and song to each other post-war and they dated each other.

-i could so easily claim she's a femme lesbian and that sokka was comphet, and I could even CONVINCE ya'll, because he is SO comphet coded, but I really love yue's storyline as it is and the lasting affect it has on sokka,,,,

5hc for the Jet/Zuko swap?

1. Zuko is not the only child of Gaipan who felt the full brunt of Iroh's warmongering ways. Of course he isn't. Longshot, Smellerbee, One-Eyed Lee, Baoshi, all of them can lay the worst moments of their lives at Iroh's door. They lost their homes, their families, the people people they loved and who loved them. They were scattered into the forest, forced to take care of themselves and each other, because no one else was left. Gaipan was rebuilt. Now there is a Fire Nation garrison and supply depot, but most of the people who live there now are the same Earth Kingdom villagers who lived there before. But that doesn't matter, because the Gaipan Zuko, Longshot, and Smellerbee knew, and the ones Baoshi, One-Eyed Li, and The Duke are too young to remember, their lives, their families, are gone, and they're not coming back.

2. Which is all to say they can't just forgive Iroh, accept his change of heart and move on. Longshot nocks an arrow whenever Iroh enters the room. Smellerbee watches him balefully. One-Eyed Li runs away to hide whenever she sees him. It's the first time in his life Iroh has ever had to look his victims in the eye, and see what he has done to them. And it forces Katara to look at the nice old man who always helped them, and wanted to see the world change the same way they did, as like the man who killed her own mother, and it forces her to ask herself, if he had become a better person in the meantime, what would she do about it? How would she feel?

3. Zuko tells Longshot about what Iroh said, about Azulon leading the raid against their village, about how much he looks like him, about what he said about Prince Jiten recognizing him. And he tells him about the offer Iroh made him. Longshot, who knows what it means to be the child of war rape, who rarely talks, but always listens, puts his hand on Zuko's shoulder and looks him in the eye, and Zuko knows he understands, and he will never tell.

4. Iroh has a trump card, one he is willing to use shamelessly. Zuko is having more and more accidents. Untrained firebending and strong emotions are a bad combination, and Iroh elicits powerful emotions indeed from Zuko. The last straw is when he accidentally sets fire to Smellerbee's hair. She's fine. Longshot grabs a mop bucket full of dirty water and throws it on her. She lost a chunk of hair, and she's covered in floor juice, but she's okay. But what if she hadn't been? What if it had been Baoshi, or The Duke, or One-Eyed Li? He's forced to go to the only master firebender he knows, even if it's The Dragon of the West.

5. And then Aang wakes up.
