hey, i say this with genuine concern because i don't think it has been pointed out to you yet - but the way you draw asian characters is incredibly inappropriate. they look like racist caricatures. they have yellow-y skin and yellow eyes that are incredibly slanted. this is not an appropriate way to portray asian characters, regardless of art style.

i wish you the best and i hope you can take this in good faith despite my bluntness, this is just how i talk! :) /gen

Actually I quite struggled how to response as such thing never happened to me before! As I was always a pretty small artist, mostly ignored by the fandoms I was at so my first thought was to explain myself with "every skin I draw leans orange just that it's mostly visible with pale skin and pale characters I draw the most these days are Shiro and Keith" or with "Was goong for smilling with eyes look on Shiro" but then I thought that would be the wrong move in this situation! Deflecting the criticsm just beacuse I did not want to do something bad, not aknowlaging I maybe did, getting too carried off with warm tones I like and funky expressions

So the only defence I'll use is that yellow eyes are something I do for every single character (even myself on autoportraits) as I don't see that one as an issue just something I picked up looks sick from drawing mutants

Thanks for pointing that out as truly I never had wrong intentions and I REALLY like coloring skin light orange and then shade it with diffrent orange as oposed to using pinks. And I'll still do that but try to lean more into peachy teritory eeeeven if it hurts a bit as I prefer the yellower tones (maybe I'll reserve them for drawing white chatacters or something)

With eyes idk what to do? As I still want them expressive and I still really like this kind of expression oposed to more default smile

Maybe it was the higher eyelid that was the issue?? With the eyeliner shape I picked for Shiro being pretty unfortunate?? (With Keith I draw his eyes diffrent any time I draw him anyway) so just changing that and lowering the bottom eyelid tiny bit is enough???

Or maybe it's the angle??

Also on yellow sclera thing just to test things out (even tho I'm not letting them go) as I was curious what you meant with them being part of the issue

I think they do make the whole thing seem more yellow! Like if I cover one eye with one hand, they do seem to pump up the color. Huh. Will need to work extra hard picking skin tones if I want to keep I guess

But I'll have to figure something out!! As even tho I never meant wrong I do not want people clapping my back being like "there was never issue" after seeing me whine for half post about itent as aparently there was

Please give me feedback on my ideas for improving, especially the eye shape, or maybe ways to keep the skin more orange yet still not read as yellow

Yep tho funfact? Actually there's like no evidence of that actually happening and I did try to look for it, so it's most likley just our version of Sharpie bath or Reylo crepes that we just all choose to believe beacuse it sounded like something vld fandom would do (if anyone who sees this actually has evidance please give them to me I looked for it, I publically asked for it on vld groups noone had it and in case I'm wrong I would love to get more educated on the matter)
