Hey! Sorry it took me so long to get to this. It was because my body was basically BEGGING me to take a break... I had a pounding headache and my drawing arm and hand felt heavy and sore. So to any artists out there... don't be like me. Take breaks. In fact, I'm probably not gonna be posting any art for a few days so I can give my body time to rest. Unfortunately, I inherited my father's workaholism...

ANYWAY. Glad you like it! Meet the Robinsons needed more... gay. So, I provided! When I first revisited this movie and saw all four of those characters I knew my gay ass brain was gonna do something with them. And that, it did.

The piece I did was them within the AU. Let's give the characters some brief summaries before going into detail (under the cut)... - Lewis is a nerdy finger gun bi disaster. 'Nuff said. - Goob is a jock type. - Lizzy is the goth girl, with a hint of weirdcore influences. - Franny is the choir girl. - All of them are 16.

Lewis He was the one Goob, Lizzy, and Franny had in common. Essentially, all three of them liked Lewis "in that way." The three of them had kind of silently agreed they all wanted to get with Lewis. Nevermind that Lewis was completely oblivious to all of this and deep within his own bi panic! In this AU, he attends high school like everybody else, but he does go off campus for a couple of periods for college classes. He's a star student! Not popular in the sense that he's the school hot shot, but in the sense that everybody knows him for being very kind and an overachiever. Oh, and Lewis was never given up for adoption! He lives with his birth mom and about-to-be step-dad.

Michael (Goob) He's the ACTUAL school hot shot. Star baseball player who holds the school athletics records. I'll admit, Goob was kind of my way of making Jock Paperjam from the OG NaJ AU not problematic, and like how I imagined him being. To channel the trauma and come out from it, y'know? (Heh, I even gave him his face shape...) He's the tallest of the four, and the strongest, too. Only his girlfriends and boyfriend know how sweet and loving he is. His love language is definitely physical touch and protection. I specifically imagine him holding Lewis close to his chest while laying on the couch. Goob is not a bully, I want to make that clear. He's just a little cocky.

Lizzy Ah yes, the goth girl. I expanded her special interest from ants, to bugs in general. Her favorites are still ants, obviously. I imagine she has a couple of creepy crawlies in resin sitting on top of her dresser. Like a tarantula named Nacho. She's not necessarily full goth, because in the image I drew she has purple as well. So she's more of a pastel goth, maybe nu-goth. Lizzy is definitely a teaser! Her favorite to tease is Goob, because she likes to see him get worked up. She may be small, but she's a fire cracker!

Franny Last - but certainly not least - Franny. She's in the school choir, and is overall very musically gifted. Both of her older brothers are away at college, so it's just her and her mom in the house. Within the relationship, she's the one who showers them with kisses and hugs. She's very bubbly and energetic, and she has no bad bones in her body... except when you talk shit about her boys and girl, then you better hope you're not karate chopped in the throat. I also turned up her love for frogs into a hyperfixation, hence the froggy bucket hat. You have no idea how tempted I was to buy that hat when I saw it in Hot Topic...

I could write an essay about how Andrew is literally the best goalkeeper ever and how that title goes beyond his talent.

I played soccer in high school, and one thing I learned is that a goalie can see everything on the firmed and something that can make a bad goalie better is using that perspective to their advantage. A goalie can make or break a team because, with a goalies influence, a team can be more informed than their opponents. A goalies ability to work with their teammates is just as important as their athletic ability and we are able to see Andrew using that ability in Jeans perspective during tsc (what the op is referencing).

I didn’t notice it in the og trilogy (mainly because Neil is an unreliable narrator) but his influence on the team and how they play reached Andrew too. I think Wymack saw that and it’s one of the reasons he made Neil vice captain.

5 Anti LO Asks

1. I just saw some post about body diversity in Lo and how it is grat and that they loving it, and it was just like 5 background characters that said only one sentence.

2. I feel like a lot of the couples are kinda not interesting no matter how much drama Smyth puts into them.

HXP gross, cheating, boss and employee, awkward for the work place, too many people are involved, and still isn’t grabbing it for me. Like I know other people root for them, but I don’t, it’s hard to root for a dumpster fire.

Hera and Zesus. The constant cheating was expected, and the bad communication, but Echo doesn’t spice it up or anything I would have been fine if Echo was a friend that shit talked Zeus with Hera (I know that’s not the story but still does Rachel care about accuracy? No) even though Zeus cheats we do get to see him actually care, BUT Idk Hera doesn’t draw me in, like they both suck, but Zeus is a bit more complex for me (with the bad husband, the cheating but still caring for Hera and being jealous)

Eros and Pysch. The beginning was interesting even knowing the myth, it was getting just a little stale and then bam he finds out on accident and I lost interest. Like they talked too much about HXP too much to feel like their own thing later on and now that he didn’t complete the test right like what now. Is Aphrodite gonna get in trouble or are we gonna forget? Idk they lost their spark for me.

Minthe and Hades. Toxic relationship that needed more time to expand explanation. Like yeah we know they are/were together but like that backstory wasn’t much. Sorry #minthedeservesmorescreentime.

Daphne abs Thanos are interesting and I can actually see why both like each other, where they started and I wanna know what’s gonna happen next for them. Like they have the life and death balance that HXP wishes even. And even tho Daphne isn’t a god, she told Apollo she was gonna ruin him, she bit him, she was awesome! And it was believable too since she’s an athletic influencer. Thanos has an interesting plot line that will probably be a problem for them later but I’m excited. Like both characters affect the plot outside of their relationship AND are interesting

Aphrodite and Ares feels like RS dropped the ball with them. Why is Ares flirting with Persephone? Sure they’re open but like idk Persephone doesn’t seem like a good fit for him at all. They were set up interestingly since we knew Aphrodite was looking for him, but that one little hug scene did no justice for either character. Like we hardly see them interact positively towards each other.

Crack ship Minthe and Hecate would have loved to see! My crack fic before I think a lot of season two was out was After Minthr parties Thetis and leaves her, she doesn’t snitch on Persephone and just tells Thetis to back off, returns to work all humbled out and Hecate and her work together on just personal shit and work stuff. Minthe asks Hecate stuff on how to get over Hades and how to be better and that’s when we learn Hecate always loved Minthe’s chaos. But yeah that didn’t happen. When I saw some crack headcanon s about those two I was like “didn’t know I needed this till now”. (I was hoping Minthe was gonna be like Petra from Jane the Virgin, starts out bad, doesn’t like the main character for most of the time but still gets a happy ending)

3. i like how LO fanss defend it like "well its no more problematic than the myth its based off of!" which like sure, thats an argument to make, but idk, the original myth didnt have persephone be nearly underage with no experience so hades can take advantage of it, demonizing several mother figures for the sake of a guy, a huge class divide thats frames the rich and powerful as the oppressed to the poor, and you know, ACTUAL SLAVERY. like cmon, it's honestly worse than the OG myth in most ways.

4. youd think if hades is self aware enough to know he was the wrong party to get into a relationship with minthe in the first place, that he'd at least be a little concerned over minthe being stuck as a plant, especially when persephone almost dropped her which would have killed her. the two of them just left her alone in a dark, empty room while they went to dance and goof off, not a care in the world. he seems more relived she's out of his hair now for him to hook up w/ his intern. its so gross.

5. I hope Demeter is pissed at her daughter for just like EVERYTHING. Taking a step back, Persephone is having a grand ol time at Hades’ place for god knows how long while her mother is worried about their situation and then gets kidnapped and Persephone makes 0 effort to try and get in contact with her or anything (hey hectare you saw my mom laying low as a bird, but any chance can you try and find her again and maybe we can arrange something since the literal god of gods is out for our blood so maybe let’s get the story straight)

Demeter going against her own comfort and parenting beliefs to left Persephone like with Artemis. It’s not Persphones fault that Apollo happened, BUT Demeter probably let Persephone live there after the murders to settle some stuff out and then 1 month of living there or so Persephone runs away to live in a motel and then has a power control issue. Let’s pretend the power control issue didn’t happen yet, what the hell was she gonna tell her mother? “Hey mom Artemis’ brother makes me uncomfortable so you can find me at this motel IN THE UNDERWORLD NEAR HADES YEAH THE GUY I FIND PLEASANT LOOKING” I know Demeter is suppose to look like an over the top mom, but yeah how was that suppose to go down? If she found out her daughter was staying with hades?

Getting an internship with Hades/underworld and not telling her mom. Idk if Hera made it a secret, but again Demeter would probably want to know that stuff being strict as she is, she probably would want Persephone to excel at a job BUT maybe not with Hades idk I forget, again it just shows there no trust between either mother nor daughter. Hera also sucks for testing her friends daughter with out actually having the intention to help perpshone and test if Hades is actually okay.

After everything Demeters gonna be like “this is why I wanted you to commute, I wouldn’t have been shoved in a bird cage if you you just have just commuted to school.”

Like I know persphone has to go out and make her own mistakes, but a lot of it boils down to Persphone was a brat. She demanded she leaves and then later killed some people got her way and then went behind her back and didn’t even want to stay in Olympus. Demeter isn’t blameless in this situation but Persephone is a murderer, glorified side chick, and I just feel that all of Demeter’s worse nightmares about her daughter leaving all happened and worse

Let's do a style analysis of HBO max's gossip girl,shall we?

Hey upper east siders!! All I have to say is the outfits are *immaculate*

Note: The points I make are solely mine and I am trying to be as straightforward as possible in this post so kindly ignore any inarticulateness this post may convey😁.

The amount of vibrancy that the above photoshoot is radiating is something really refreshing, with people all around me dressing in a usual and similar manner (blue jeans and white tank top duh!), the extravagant yet not extravagant clothing that these wonderful people are donning is something that caught my eye instantly. Yes!! from the moment the first picture came out I looked forward to more behind the scenes pictures of the cast and of course its fashion(actually I looked forward to ONLY the fashion, not because I don't trust the storytelling or the future plot but because the uniforms like these shown below made my inner fashion enthusiast *shake* to her very core.

● Now clothing or a style statement is very necessary for a film or any cinematic art form because in a lot of cases it is something that makes the show stand in the future or something which shares the iconicity of the art itself. The particular fashion becomes something exclusive and a trendsetter for that show or a movie. Yes! it does happen because the first thing that pops up in my head when somebody talks about clueless is the Cher and Dionne's plaid outfit or when i am reminded of mean girls one of the first things that comes up in my mind is a pink skater skirt or just you know pink outfits in general.

● When we as an audience are mesmerized by the "attractive" outfits or statement pieces our favorite characters wear onscreen we are influenced to wear similar pieces too. Such a thing happened with Blair Waldorf's iconic headband which made a lot of people wanting to don that too.

00's Vs Present

What I primarily want to do with this post is compare gossip girl's iconic fashion moments with the upcoming gossip girls' fashion and eventually compare 00's fashion to the fashion we have seen emerging in the past year, basically fashion 2020 onwards.

● There was this "rule" I learned and tried to follow which is no outfit should have more than 3 colors together , I did try to religiously follow that but it seemed a bit difficult so I increased the max number of colors I could have in my outfit to 4 .

● My biggest pet peeve regarding fashion would be too many mismatched colors in an outfit or simply lots of different colors in an outfit unless its a multicolored outfit. The example is given below.

• Outfit 1 above aesthetically looks good but if the handbag were of a pastel color(pink or even yellow to match the shoes) the whole outfit could have looked way better.

• Outfit 2 strains my eye at the very first instant I look at it, was that necklace really necessary? I am confused whether it is a athletic outfit or a casual one?

Minimalism

Not very recently we have been obsessed with and have been looking out for this style in fashion. Kuwtk also played a role in promoting this form of styling which is minimalism because they are donning outfits of neutral colors like white,khaki,brown,beige,cream and mostly they happen to be monochromatic. Also with tiktok( I am saying tik tok because I have seen many tik tok videos with most people wearing this staple outfit),the easy and comfy outfit consisting of a white tank/crop/shirt or a T-shirt paired with blue skinny/wide legged Jeans and compulsory white sneakers. I honestly thought the new gossip girl would show include current elements of pop culture fashion elements like minimal jewellery ,claw clips or tie dye outfits but seems like they are trying to set up a fashion statement of their own in their own creative way ! which is very great.

● But after looking at the behind the scenes of gg reboot and the promotional pictures,it seems they are approaching a more "colorful" approach to the outfits and I hope they are able to set new style standards too as the og gossip girl did. The new gossip girl has fashion inspired by the 2000s and subtly the 90s but yet feels modern?The outfits look formal yet very practical and easy to recreate?The outfits look smart yet not very extravagant(of course barring the fact that all the products are high end but nothing thrifting and matching our outfits cant solve) ? a big YESSS!! to all the questions raised! It's really refreshing to see how well put together and actually comfortable the outfits look . Although the huge bags that blair and serena used to carry are making a statement in this show as well as can be seen from the pictures. In the upcoming show the jewellery is not exaggerated nor the colors mismatched,basically they are beautifully following the notion "less is more". I had an aversion to blue colored clothes and I always gravitated towards black and white while wearing formal but the actors and ofcourse the characters wearing blue formal outfits(to school I know) is making me think differently . 👀

I redesigned Momo bc her canon costume sucks! Info and details under the cut, including reasoning behind my redesign for all those critics. Speaking of critics, constructive criticism is welcome! “Hey, [blank] is nice, but I think [blank] might work better” is 100% welcome! I want to hear your ideas! 

But if you’re gonna clown about how you can’t jack off to your teenage waifu anymore bc the Nasty SJW Puritans killed her you can just go. Eat some bread, maybe you’ll calm down. This is a clown-free post.

Her hair is about the same, but I gave her a clip to keep it out of her eyes.

Her top is a halter crop top with an open back. I liked the look of the yellow strap on her chest but it got in the way of the zipper, so I changed it to a stripe on the cloth. The front of the top zips open and shut. There’s a large opening on the back, but if that’s not enough space to create something, the back is held together by a powerful magnetic clasp that will pop open to make room for a large object, then go back together with little trouble.

I gave her elbow and knee pads bc scrapes on those aren’t fun! The gloves are part for handling weapons and part bc I think they look cool. She makes things from the palms of her hands sometimes so there are openings there.

Shorts are comfortable and easy to wear! They are athletic and easy to move in.

I actually like the clunky belt from the og design. So I kept one of the two belts and made it a bit more belt-like, so it isn’t sagging off of her hips. The pouches are detachable and there’s plenty of room for more pouches. They hold high calorie snacks to fuel her quirk, first aid equipment, and other generic hero tools. She could make her own, but it’s best to keep some already with her just in case.

I threw the book and the bookshelf out. That was an abomination. Why does she have a bookshelf on her ass. I replaced the heavy clunky ugly stupid book with a sleek, easy to use, compact, durable, voice-commanded, solar powered, high tech tablet! (in an extra-padded pouch, the one in the back view)

Under the tablet pouch is a poncho, rolled up small and compact. The poncho is light and easy to move in. It can be used to cover the occasional wardrobe malfunction, create things without being seen, and is perfect for wrapping around a scared child.

The boots! I gave her combat boots, and lowered the heel a bit because twisted ankles suck. I also wanted to give them more design than just blank red, so I did that too.

Why, you might ask, did I do all of this? The answer is simple. Momo’s costume fucking sucks. For starters, she is 15 when introduced (she’s 16 in canon now.) I’m 17. She’s 1 or 2 years younger than me. Her costume, designed by an adult man, is incredibly revealing for anyone, especially a teenage girl. Momo did not choose her costume. She is a fictional character. Her choices are written by an adult man. Her costume was not “designed by her.” It was designed by the author. Being an AFAB (assigned female at birth) person only a year or two older than this character, I am deeply uncomfortable with how she has been dressed by the author. 

Her being a teen does influence this redesign, but I would do it even if she was an adult. Why? Because her canon costume is just garbage. It’s super impractical for any kind of physical activity, and IMO just pretty ugly! The leotard is a chafing nightmare and would give you a wedgie after taking a single step, the belt is about to fall off, there’s p much no fat on the chest area, one of the only open spots on her upper half, the back is closed despite being what she uses to make large objects, it offers absolutely no breast support which anyone with tits will tell you is awful, especially for ppl with larger chests. The bookshelf on her ass is just?????? why??? i can kind of vibe with the aesthetic of the book, even if it’s super impractical, but a shelf????? a fucking SHELF????? (i will never not be over the ass bookshelf) its just a huge mess that the author obviously put no thought into other than “hurr durr sexy gurl” (and even failed to make it sexy!) It’s a stupid costume.

Because he is so Lucky like his uncle , but I don’t think he really Likes to be Lucky....I think he just wants to be a normal kid , Like other Kids

(In my headcannon , nobody wants to be friend with shamrock , because they think he is so greedy and selfish and because he is like his uncle gladstone and he is really sad about this , and only Dugan is his friend because he understands shamrock’s feelings![ Huey , Dewey and Louie will be his friends in the future ]

2-do you think minima and shamrock would be friends?

1-Hm...Somehow, as you said, I'm thinking in that direction. I haven’t written fanfiction yet, but I could. I have some ideas in my headcanon and have been thinking about it for a while. Yes, Shamrock Gander has those traits like his Uncle Gladstone, that kind of constant happiness, but both his uncle and he sometimes have the same misfortune. This is how my story about him goes in part (one day I will write a fanfiction about it, when I am free):

“Shamrock was abandoned by his parents as was his uncle Gladstone, when his parents left, whose fate is still unknown. Gladstone has adopted his nephew as his son and protects him from various threats. In time, Shamrock becomes similar to his happy uncle and imitates him. But the guests who visited Gladstone were constantly patting Shamrock on the head, but over time as he got older, he no longer wanted to be anointed like his uncle. Gladstone understood him, because he himself lived in the modern world and followed what was happening. He was an actor who once acted for Hollywood movies and bragged to his cousins ​​about how famous he was and how he followed fashion. By doing so, Gladstone allowed his nephew to change and Shamrock no longer wears a small cap or wore smaller clothes resembling his uncle's, he decided to change his image, wearing a hat like some hipsters, for whom he did not know what they were, as well as a hoodie jacket wouldn't you act like a cool boy. He also changed his hairstyle. Although he is 9 years old, he was really popular at school and was often proclaimed the king of his class. Like his uncle, he began to behave very arrogantly and a bit jerkily towards his fans. Dugan Duck, who was a naughty and clumsy boy, but had a brave and gentle heart to admit his mistakes, often did tricks for Shamrock. Shamrock, whenever he got into trouble blamed Dugan for it, and Dugan was unfortunately often punished. Gladstone thus often told his cousin Fethry that he (thinking of Fethry) is a terrible parent and that he does not know how to take care of a boy in the right way, unlike him (thinking of Gladstone) who knows what his boy (Shamrock) needs. Fethry is often sad and doesn't even know how to take care of Dugan, but he had his cousin Donald, who taught him how to take care of boys the right way. Dugan was often friends with Donald's nephews, especially Louie, who was an athlete and knew a lot about pranks, but he was an honest and naive boy and in a way a moral vertical for Dugan. Dugan also helped Newton. Dugan also has some other friends. But Shamrock? Not at the moment, but one day that will change. 

One day, the Beagle Brats (nephews of the main Beagle Boys gang) found him alone and tricked him by stealing his clothes, and Shamrock was alone and sadly naked. Many laughed at him and teased him about it. The Beagle Brats also had other problems for him. Shamrock didn't know how to get out. He cried all week, Gladstone didn't know how to comfort him. However, there were Dugan, HDL and Newton who comforted him. Dugan prepared a good revenge for the Beagle Brats and with the help of HDL and his friends, they forced the Beagle Brats to admit their guilt and were embarrassed after that joke in which their pants were taken off and taken off. They realized they were wrong and apologized to Shamrock, and they went home embarrassed. Shamrock then realized he was wrong and apologized to his classmates, as well as Dugan and Donald’s nephews and Gyro’s nephew. Dugan, HDL and Newton forgave Shamrock and hugged each other as if they were brothers. Of course, Shamrock will continue to be partly a jerk, but he will always get into trouble because of that. However, he realizes that he can't do anything without his relatives and admits that and his relatives (Dugan, HDL) help him with that, even though the years between them are different. This is just my interpretation of how I would see those things. This is more of a mix of Disney Duck comics with OG Ducktales and Quack Pack, set these days and has nothing to do with the DT17 universe. So, my headcanon.

Certainly, your idea is good and you have the right to create your canon as you see fit. It would be good to write a story about it, if you are free to do so. Which universe you choose is up to you.

This is just the beginning of what I said, so I will further develop the idea of family relationships between Shamrock and his relatives, as well as making some friends.

2-Certainly they would be friends. Maybe Shamrock would change his idiotic behavior for the better, so that he would no longer be a jerk, but a good and cheerful boy, but he would probably get bored if he hung out with Minima all the time. But surely Minima would have a lot of influence on Shamrock, but not in the way of a loving couple, because I don't ship children until they become older teenagers. Hey everyone!! Man, when was the last time I wrote a review. I hope everyone is doing okay and staying “socially distant.” We can combat this together!! So in this difficult time, I was so glad this episode happened, it got me so hyped up and made me forget the grim reality. So let's dive in!!

So about this episode, Ash wants to enter into the World’s Championship Tournament. He wants to compete so he can have his chance to battle with Leon, the current world champion. There are over 10,000 participants, and Ash needs to battle trainers with a high ranking in order to move up. With this in mind, he finds someone in the area with a high ranking, Visquez. She is currently the Vermillion gym leader and subbing for Surge while he is away.

Ash and Gou go to the Vermillion gym. On their way, Gou encounters a Spearow and wants to catch it. He and Raboot runs offscreen. Meanwhile at the Vermillion gym, we get our first look of Visquez and her Raichu against a trainer with a Hypno. She makes quick work of this trainer and notes he lacks “spirit.” She had Raichu to finish with Volt Tackle and easily won the battle. She was hoping to have a challenger that was participating in the World Tourney. Within seconds she got her wish and heard Ash and Pikachu outside!

Ash comes, introduces himself to her and wants to battle! She and the lackeys are taken back when they hear his name. This gets everyone excited. Visquez tells Ash that he is well known. She explains Lt. Surge had told them about their spectacular battle. She says she wanted to meet him and Pikachu. She was very honored to be his first opponent. Gou came back on time and was able to catch the Spearow!

The first battle takes place, Pikachu vs Raichu (classic). They both ordered a thunderbolt which was even. Visquez orders Raichu for Volt Tackle which then Ash orders Pikachu to counter it with Iron Tail and use it as a grounder. Visquez and her Raichu proved to be more formidable opponent then Ash realized and was able to overcome easily. Raichu was able to use his tail to stop Pikachu in its tracks. Ash tried several techniques to land a hit on Raichu, but couldn’t come up on top. He notices Pikachu is getting tired, and calls him back (smart).

Next Ash switches for Gengar. Ash starts off Gengar with Night Shade and Visquez has Raichu use thunderbolt. Gengar proves to be faster and easily overtakes Raichu. Visquez has her Raichu uses its tail to grip Gengar, but Gengar can easily make itself disappear. Ash has Gengar use Psychic and was able to finish Raichu off! 1 down, 1 to go.

Visquez sends her ace Pokemon, Electrode. She and Electrode had their own tricks up in their sleeve. Electrode uses Magnet Rise and uses the field to resist the ground. With the debris of the battlefield, bounces off and picks up speed. This combo overtakes Gengar and finishes off with discharge. Now Ash is down to Pikachu.

The final battle takes place on the ground and Visquez orders Electrode to use Rollout. At first Pikachu had trouble keeping up with Electrode, but Ash was able to regain control. Pikachu slowed and stopped Electrode by using Iron Tail. Pikachu got in several hits before Electrode reached it’s limit and activated its ability Aftermath. Ash orders Pikachu to use Electroweb as a shield and wins the battle.

Visquez smiles at Ash with defeat and promises to contact Lt. Surge about their battle. She thinks he would love a rematch against Ash one day. Ash gets his new rank of 3763 from 10,000, ending this episode.

Thoughts

Omg, where can I start?! This episode delivered a lot more than I ever anticipated. I went into the episode with very low expectations because I was bummed that Lt. Surge wasn’t making an appearance originally. The summary preview didn’t explain a whole lot. But I am glad I was wrong and it delivered beautifully. So let's talk about the humans first!!

Visquez

So when I heard about her, I have to admit, I was expecting to be a guy. When I first saw the preview, I was like okay, I am getting more so guy vibes. It wasn’t until I saw Rohanite twitter’s post, I read she was a woman. This was where I started to re-evaluate her. I noticed she has a plug as her hairstyle.  After watching the episode, I ended up loving her. For one, she does have a killer design. I want to say her design was definitely inspired from Lt. Surge OG anime design. And she has a killer body, I can’t recall if other women in the Pokemon anime with muscles have appeared before, so huge props to Pokemon. I think the reason I love her look, she gave me instagram vibes. There are women I follow on Instagram who have beautiful athletic bodies and I wouldn’t be surprised if inspiration was taken from there.

Her personality was very likeable. She has a very tough exterior. She is very serious and aggressive when in battle, but passionate for spirit. This was pointed out when she was first introduced. Her personality slightly mimics from Lt. Surge, except she commends her opponents for their hard work. She loves to workout with her Pokemon and train with them. Both her Pokemon, Raichu and Electrode share the same vibes as her which I will mention more in detail. She does have a soft side and cares about her Pokemon a lot.  

One thing I did not expect to hear from her was wanting to meet Ash in person. Lt. Surge told her about his battle with Ash. I really loved this callback and was my favorite moment in the episode. Ash was considered an inspiration to Surge, and everyone in the gym. They started to train harder and it shows through Visquez. The tactics Ash used originally against Surge did not work with her Raichu. She had some great counters and brought out unique strategies from her Pokemon. She proved to be a very formidable opponent.    

Ash

Ash surprised me in the episode. For one, he remembered Lt. Surge, so continuity!!! And he actually made a huge impact on Lt. Surge that he was a mini celebrity to Visquez and her lackeys. When I was younger, I used to write fanfiction. One of my fanfics, I did have Lt. Surge as a support character while Ash was abroad in America! I would picture Surge admiring Ash out of box battling style. Ash’s influence would push Surge to be a better trainer. Never in a million years this would happen in the actual anime which gave me goosebumps. From the original episode Electric Shock Showdown, this was a beginning of Ash getting more confidence in battling and a milestone for winning his first legit badge. Surge did give Ash a standing ovation.

Anyways back to the episode, it made me smile how confident Ash was going into this battle. He seems so confident in his abilities, and he still has these creative strategies to take control of the battle. He is able to quickly analyze the current situation and think quickly on his feet. I was glad Ash battled smart in this episode. All honestly, if he didn’t switch Pikachu with Gengar, he would have lost the battle. Gengar vs Raichu was my favorite battle in the episode, and will get to the Pokemon soon.

Plus, Ash’s smile is so contagious. I just love the energy he brought into the battle.

Gou and Raboot

Gou did take a backseat in this episode. He was super adorable cheering for Ash in battle. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took pics of Ash -shot-. I loved Gou’s reactions throughout the episode. He did say at one point, “That’s insane Satoshi” with the ehhhe.. look. One thing I did notice was that Raboot stuck around with Gou. In the last episode, Gou completely ignored Scorbunny when it was learning his fire move, which made Scobunny upset. Both Gou and Raboot have different ideals and goals. After Raboot evolved, it ignored Gou. This carried over to the following episode. Raboot acts like a moody teenager, and it acts like it doesn’t care. 

But during the battle, Raboot couldn’t resist, especially if it involved with Pikachu. Raboot cares so much about Pikachu and shows its support. Raboot is very interested in battling more vs Gou who at the moment not sure if he wants to stab at it. We will see in the future.

Pokemon

Raichu

Visquez’s Raichu is super adorable. I literally died how he got to shine in this episode. I loved how it had this admiration to train and battle hard. I found it super cute when it was training it’s tail with the dumbbells (my favorite part). This Raichu is no slouch either. Visquez revealed that it was trained under Surge. Apparently he did not make the same mistake with Visquez’s Raichu as he did with his own Raichu, and this showed in battle. This Raichu was able to counter Ash’s past strategies with so much ease. It did throw in some callbacks. One was utilizing it’s tail which was a callback from Pika and Goliath. The breaking of the glass when using Volt Tackle, throwback to ESS. It was nice this Raichu had the upper hand for once and it was a major threat!

Electrode  

This Pokemon over here, the anime made it look cute and threatening. This was the first time I have seen Electrode to be an actual threat. With that said, it broke out of the typical mold it was stuck for 20 years. Throughout the episode, they hinted quite literally the dents on the walls. This was all due to her Electrode. I really loved the Magnet Rise and how it uses that to it’s advantage. When using magnet rise, debris was lifted as well. It used the debris as pillars and gave Gengar such a hard time. At the same time, utilizing the speed Electrode has, it was super difficult to slow it down. Electrode vs Gengar was my 2nd favorite battle for that reason.

Pikachu

Pikachu had some great moments in this episode. For once, Pikachu didn’t have the rivalry with Raichu. He was level headed in this battle, and I was happy he was able to switch off. There were many callbacks. Ash has Pikachu use Iron Tail to ground himself just like ESS. The spinning Iron Tail was from Pika and Goliath. During the Electrode battle, Pikachu went on top of Electrode and used his iron tail to stop Electrode which was very clever, and then run in reverse like a hamster. This was a throwback from Pokemon snap where Pikachu was on top of Electrode. There was a callback how Pikachu used ElectroWeb as a shield from Sun and Moon.

Gengar

Wow, Gengar was able to shine. I didn’t think I would love Gengar in this episode. It was able to shine, highlighting all it’s strengths against Raichu, and he looked like he was having so much fun. Ash was able to use Gengar intangibility to overwhelm Raichu and it’s tail. Psychic to finish it off to show such display of raw power! Kinda bummed it lost over Electrode, but I can’t wait for more battles for Gengar in the future.

Battles

Wow, the battles did not disappoint at all. I was pretty much hooked on every battle. If I had to rank, my favorite out of the bunch was Gengar vs Raichu, and the least would be Electrode vs Pikachu. Pikachu vs Raichu and Electrode vs Gengar were in the middle for me. The reason I loved Gengar vs Raichu, it was so much fun to watch, the BGM was killer, and it ended on a hilarious display of Raichu getting smushed in midair and then getting smashed into the wall.

Pikachu vs Raichu battle is always a joy to watch. I already highlighted them, but I enjoyed seeing for once Raichu giving Pikachu a hard time.

Electrode vs Gengar was such a joy to watch as well. I really loved the Magnet Rise strategy that Visquez and her Electrode displayed. She was able to utilize all of Electrode’s strengths and I thought it was pretty genius and was able to overwhelm Gengar. I wished she did the same with Pikachu

Electrode vs Pikachu would be my least favorite, but I did enjoy the battle, it was smart for Pikachu to slow down Electrode which was a feat itself. I didn’t think rolling Electrode in a different direction would mess its vibe up, but who knew. I love when Electrode tried to use it’s ability Aftermath, it tried to take Pikachu down with it. This was quickly countered with Electroweb thanks to Ash’s quick thinking.

References

There were many ref and callbacks in this episode, I mentioned a couple in the Pokemon themselves so I won’t highlight here. So here are some major ones.

Lt. Surge

I had very little expectations he was going to be mentioned or even make a cameo, thank you episode for proving me wrong. He was one my favorite gym leaders growing up and he was one the reasons why I got into Pokemon thanks to Electric Shock Showdown. Also his cute Raichu. I always believed Surge was one the reasons that he shaped Ash into who he is today. Ash and Pikachu had to dive in deeper to draw out Pikachu’s strengths, and of course help from Brock. (Plus Ash more likely wouldn't be able get a pity badge from him if he tried. So he made Ash work for it). So I was so happy he was referenced and made the highlight for me. He wasn’t in the episode but he was referenced several times. The first time referenced was from Ash, and then when Gou asked Ash if he got the thunderbadge from him. Later Visquez retells the story of Surge and their fantastic battle.

One thing for sure, his design has changed. Lt. Surge definitely is not the 8 ft, tan, and super ripped compared to his update. In a way, I wasn’t surprised that they decided to go more with his game design. He is more white and normal sized in the games. My only complaint, I wished he had a bit more subtle skin color, like he could be a similar color as Ash or a happy medium, but ehh you can’t have it all. But his redesign isn’t too bad. Pokemon has been shying away the real world references, so it was inevitable that Surge would be getting a design change. He is no longer the Lightning American, he is now referred to as Lightning Lieutenant. And his most recent appearances, he has been shown in his game design more often..

I loved that Ash was able to influence Lt. Surge. Who would've thought that Ash was able to do that at someone. He was mentioned training to master the electric type more and trained Visquez’s Raichu. It was hinted that he might come back in the near future since Visquez was going to let Surge know about the battle. **Please, please, please, make this happen** One my dreams battle literally is a rematch in this current artstyle.

The other gym leaders were all shown in silhouettes.

The badges

The breaking of the glass. Both Raichu and Electrode did this.

Also towards the end, when Electrode destroys all the windows and smoke. Pikachu protects itself from huge attack. Callback to ESS when Raichu destroys the gym and Pikachu blocks the attack.

Final thoughts

This episode has given me a lot of hope of possibly bringing back old characters from the past. I love the World Tournament that regardless of class, everyone starts in the bottom. It’s still early into the series, but if they could bring back Surge for a cameo, I would love to see the other gym leaders from other regions, and some past rivals, such as Gary or Paul. I am not going to hold my breath of pokeani keeping this promise. The subtle callbacks were so great to see. Ash and Pikachu were mini celebrities in Surge’s gym,  it was almost a perfect episode for me which is rare. I didn’t think I would enjoy it so much especially the corona crisis going on that kept my mind off of it.  If I would rate this episode, I would give a solid 9.75 out of 10 and my favorite of this PM series. Maybe top 5 all time favorite episodes… (wait what!!)

Random Season 4 Wishes

Here is a random list of things I want to see in season 4 in no particular order. Some of these are more like predictions than wishes, but at this point, any prediction made is just a wish. 

A break from all out romance. The romance wasn’t really handled all that great last season. Other than the looming monster danger, it was the forefront of season 3. I would like a return to a season 1/season 2 formula where while there is still romance, it is never the focus. Stranger Things excels with subtle tender moments and meaningful physical contact. 

Character growth over character drama. Another issue season 3 had is too much conflict between character. Hardly any of it really contributed to character growth. The only character growth to be seen is Mike being a little less clingy and El being a little more independent. Nothing else noticeably changed, not on screen. Conflict is important... but it should be pushing our character forward, not locking them in place. 

Recapture the importance of family. Our cast has been divided in two. The Byers + El are somewhere new while the others stayed behind in Hawkins. This leaves an excellent opportunity to revisit old threads long forgotten. I would love to see Nancy and Mike actually interacting. Not just one conversation or exchanging a glance. Full out brother and sister duo. I feel similarly about Jonathan with his own family. I would like to see a plot where all the Byers + El are in it together. 

Return of Kali. Kali, I feel, is a very important piece of El. While season 3 would have us forget her influence of El, I hope next season doesn’t completely ignore her presence. It would be interesting if Kali’s prediction comes true, that no matter where she hides or who she’s with, “they” will never let her live in peace or have a normal life. Not because I want harm to come to El, but because I don’t for a second believe the government is done with her or the other experimented children.

Proper strategist Michael Wheeler and proper action man Lucas Sinclair. I would like to see the return of the strategist Mike who always seems to have a plan and can get everyone on the same page. In season 3, he was fumbling around distracted. I feel normally, Mike would have set a trap for the Mind Flayer or would’ve formulated a proper plan to escape the mall or the cabin. In Lucas’s case, they did ok with him in season 3 actually, but it was really out of character for him to freeze up while El was being choked out. I want to see a more forward athletic Lucas. 

Will to make new friends. In season 3, we saw at least 2 of the 4 boys interests changing drastically and the other was all too eager to go off and hang around new people. Given Will’s situation (new town, new house, new school, distant old friends), I’d like to see Will gain some new friendships. That’s not to say he’d drop the old ones. They’re the OG after all. But, before all the drama of next season picks up, it would be nice to see Will being happy and acknowledged by new friends.

US Government becoming a threat again. Personally, I did not enjoy the Russian plot. Everything seemed like a joke. When the US government were the bad guys, everything felt more dangerous and dire. You never knew who was listening. Who was watching. What would happen if they found El or if they would hurt the boys and their families. Next season, I feel they could make the Russians feel like as much of a threat as the US government if both governments are clashing and in a race to the bottom. By that, I mean the government should become a major foe again racing against the Russian government to do bad things. Open a gate? Control a demogorgon? Allow the Mind Flayer in again? Both these governments should screw up equally. 

A slow return of El’s powers. I want El to get her powers back, but I want it to be a slow daunting process. It’s like she starts back at square one. She can move and pick up small things, but even that has taken her months. She’s stuck between being seemingly normal with no powers, but also missing the power she once had. 

Casual power training. As we know, Will is really into comics. El might be too since Max introduced her to them. A classic of comics is the super hero training to regain their strength or to become stronger. It would be really interesting if Will contributed to El slowly regaining her powers by setting up obstacles and challenges just for her. Maybe on the weekends, he designs a building and she must use wooden blocks/legos to make it with her powers. Or, build a house of cards. A game of darts using powers only. A game of catch. (I was going to say Jenga, but it looks like that didn’t get released in the US until 1987) Anything Will can creatively come up with that he thinks will help her regain her strength. (whether it does or not is up for debate) It’s mostly casual fun. Some bonding opportunities. Who doesn’t enjoy training the hero/super hero? (basically, it’s roleplay) 

Will’s power expanded. I am writing a proper theory page on Will’s/the Byers’s powers, but let me explain exactly what I mean here. It’s clear Will has powers, but they severely limited them in season 3. Examples:

Instead of only sensing the Mind Flayer when it’s nearby, he should be able to close his eyes, concentrate, and locate the center of activity

Will should have great insight into the Mind Flayer’s intentions even if it’s just honest guesses on what the Mind Flayer wants and what he’s trying to do (like in season 2)

Will’s danger senses should happen immediately, not delayed like we saw in the hospital or in the mall. He should be able to tell the Mind Flayer is coming for them from miles away or even across dimensions.

Will should retain true sight, the ability to see into the Upside Down. A dangerous ability to be sure, but can be useful if we’re going to have gates popping in and out around the world like what’s been implied.

Karen possibly discovering the truth. Honestly, Season 1 Karen is such a good mom. And in season 3, that discussion with Nancy was superb and beautiful. I would love for Karen to learn a little more what her two eldest kids have been up to. If not that, I’d like for her to at least give more guidance to her kids. I’d like for Nancy and Mike to vaguely come to her for advice and she’d grant it, no questions asked. (ok, Karen used to be very nosy so maybe she does ask questions, but takes a step back and respects their privacy)

Joyce to be believed right away. I honestly do not understand why people doubt Joyce, you know? She’s been right 3 years in a row now (Nancy too). I swear if anyone questions her intuition next season, she should give them her classic Joyce sneer until they realize how silly they’re being. In order of “alarm bells”, I think it will go like Will >> El >> Joyce >> Jonathan in quick succession. All 4 family members should be very sensitive to weird things as this point. 

Jonathan gets a plot. I want to see things from Jonathan’s perspective again. After season 1, we’ve barely gotten anything. I want to see Jonathan putting forth plans or leading the charge, at least for a little while. There is a great opportunity for this next season since he’s the man of the house about to graduate from high school if he hasn’t already. (*sobs remembering Will is taller than him now, officially). Heck, if we want to switch around the order of “alarm bells”, maybe Jonathan becomes alert of something wrong before Joyce does this time. 

Less product placement. In season 1/season 2, there was product placement, but that was because they were really setting the scene. It was 1983. This is what products used to be like. This is what was popular at the time. But season 3? They cranked that dial up 2000% when they didn’t need to. It really made it feel less serious and set in reality. Don’t dare use Lucas to spit out a damned Coke ad ever again. 

Genuine friendship moments. I’ve mentioned this earlier, but with less romantic drama and stuff, I’d like to see genuine friendships return. The El and Max friendship was great and all, but it’s really a shame it was so heavily focused on Mike. I hope in the future, these two girls are able to share screentime without the boys being mentioned or thought about. Same with the guys, it would be nice if they could hang out like before without splitting off into pairs or focusing entirely on their romantic lives. They don’t really feel like a friend group anymore, just a group of double dates (hence why I’d like for Will to make friends outside the original group.)

Proper use of the supernatural. Season 3 was weak when it came to the Mind Flesher imo. They had this whole idea of the Flayed who seemed to be totally normal (and sweaty) just walking around town living their lives until a flip was switched. Whyyyyy in the world weren’t they used to try to get at our cast? The only time they did it was in the hospital, but we saw dozens and dozens of people who could’ve served the same purpose except it could happen anywhere. Maybe there were other ‘patients’ in the waiting room that also turned on the kids that they had to fight off? Maybe strange people came to all their houses trying to find them or break in? They could’ve gone full creepy like season 1/2 but they didn’t. I’d like to see them fully use the horror aspects next season.
