Your fan, San (part 1)
(part 2) (your fan ml)
💬 pairing: san x interpreter!reader 💬 genre: romance, fluff, mutual pining 💬 summary: a bulletpoint-style wordstream of what it would be like if san was stanning you 💬 wordcount: 5.3k 💬 warnings/tags: language, simping, hopeless romantic, linguistics, interpreter/translator reader, duo bird terrors, ateez wingman alliance, concerts, public speaking, job stress, slow burn, falling in love hard and fast 💬 taglist: @acciocriativity, @senpai-of-doom, @layzfeelit @jcngh0-hq @black--awsum @honey-lemon-goose @i-luvsang @jackinmyarea💬 a/n: Hello there <3 we all know the standard languages, but how will Choi San, our next Fan in the series, go about learning the language of love? Let's find out! Thank you so much for your love and support, biggest hugs and stay tuned <3<3<3
ATINY were overwhelmingly supportive when San spoke a foreign language.
But he disliked it.
Because it meant that you had to stop.
And San loved nothing more than to see you gaze at him, fully focused, professional, and practically reading his mind as you translated his words at record speed.
Well you did that for every single member of ATEEZ, but that was besides the point. His focus was always on you.
You reminded him of a river. Gentle in your appearance and demeanour. At the same time, you possessed a unique turbulence, you could stand strong and proud, a fire in your eyes - the embodiment of passion as you spoke.
But exclusively if you felt the moment called for it. You were always transforming. Fluid. You were an ever-changing season. An unstoppable current. San wholly believed you had the power to see right through people because of how well you captured their sentiment.
San had always valued communication, and wanted to be on the same page as anyone he talked to. But unfortunately, that meant spending long hours hunched over books and staring at a demonic green owl on his phone.
In the early days of his career, that had been enough, but as the fanbase grew larger and more international, the pressure he had begun to feel when it came to simply talking and delivering a message was unprecedented.
He was not able to joke around, not able to say exactly what he wanted, and more often than not gave up and said something easier. But the passion was still there. Very much alive. So, San kept at it. Trying not to make Duo sad.
Of course, he was well aware that no matter how hard he tried, he and the rest of the members would not be able to become perfectly fluent by the next promotions and world tour, so having an interpreter on board was a must. This was so that they could focus on connecting with the audience on a much deeper level, so they would not be hindered either by vocabulary or by worry (even if they could explain themselves well).
Hence why it had not come as a surprise that the selection process for an interpreter, according to some staff San was friendly with, had been immensely difficult. So much so that apparently, a high percentage had quit before even making it close to the final rounds, and then those in the last selection stage had to risk facing humiliation, the test being interpreting at a live, high stress event.
And then, with only a few days before ATEEZ were meant to depart to Japan, they had received the news that an interpreter had been picked out. Prior to the concerts, you had barely interacted - only a couple of waves here and there. San noticed that you were on the quieter side, an avid reader, and had a habit of making notes on your phone.
He had initially assumed you were always texting someone, but after curiosity got the better of him and he had decided to at least become acquaintances, he was shown the insanity that was literary Japanese, reviews of honorifics and formal speech, colloquial phrases and translation of slang. You had even gone so far as to create your own guide for finding local analogies to different mythological or popular media references.
That was strike one.
Every single concert you were adaptive, and attentive to ATEEZ. You had even begun to check in on them prior to know what emotional landscape they wanted to deliver. You knew the setlist off by heart, had memorised the pauses between songs and when the members were to have live interactions with the audience that would require your participation.
When in your role, your demeanour changed entirely. Your voice was level, pronunciation like that of a native, and well measured out. San swore even he had begun learning Japanese passively simply because it was so easy to understand you.
Then, after the concerts were done, you did not take any compliments, merely smiling them off, instead being proud of everyone around you. You thanked the sound engineers, the technical staff, the security... anyone who you had the chance to thank, you did. It was a given that you congratulated ATEEZ after their performances, commending them for their hard work. When San had attempted to return the praises, he was met with that same bashful grin, and you explaining that you were merely extending their hearts out to the audience.
That was strike two.
And finally, there was the last concert. Sold out, with tens of thousands of ATINY, there to spend this amazing time together with the idols. And then, to deliver a surprise gift in the form of an animated video created by a group of dedicated fans who had painstakingly adapted submissions into the style of an animated film. It was a story of how important ATEEZ were to the fans, how they were heroes, how they deserved infinite amounts of love.
Each of the nation's prefectures had been represented, and at the end there was a 'handover' to the rest of the world, sending appreciation to other ATINY who will be meeting ATEEZ next. The majority of the group was tearing up, and while delivering their speeches, struggled to control their emotions. Each phrase was a cry from the soul, and San was not sure how it was possible to translate something like this.
And yet, you did. In that mellifluous voice, now holding a tinge of melancholy, you patiently collaborated with each member, listening to them pour themselves out, and pouring yourself out eightfold. Those who were able to understand Korean had already been misty-eyed, but as you included the others, the atmosphere changed completely.
It was a total unity. That complete understanding. The communication that San was always seeking. It did not matter how many people there were in a given place. What mattered, was that you were the key to reaching them all. So, on a whim, instead of letting Hongjoong do the honours like he normally would, he overtook the leader in announcing you. In thanking you for your hard work and for being the link between them and ATINY. Please applaud L/N Y/N, master interpreter.
That was strike three.
San was ready to risk it all, became the president of your growing fan club, and hearing your voice stopped being a want. It became a need.
--
To this day you were confused as to how your life had unfolded. To an extent, it was like you were put on standby and then watched someone who looked just like you go and do cool things with your life.
You had joined KQ Entertainment on a contractual basis to support ATEEZ in the Japan leg of their tour, and technically, were supposed to part ways as soon as it was over. But as luck (or someone else's unfortunate series of events) would have it, due to the incredibly short time between schedules, unexpected illnesses and conflicts, you were offered to join the group in the US as well.
It was an easy decision for you.
Firstly, because you had gotten close enough with the members, since your job was to deliver not only the words, but also their emotional weight.
Secondly, bold of anyone to assume that you had other job offers lying around when most companies had hiring freezes and could not care less for your work experience and skills.
But no one needed to know about that second part.
Instead, you simply agreed, and as such, signed yourself up to way more than you had ever expected.
And what was that exactly? Your own strange version of fame in the form of ATINY calling you the ATEEZ Megaphone, the Voice of Reason, 8 Makes 1 Voice, Miss Worldwide (which officially imprinted the rapper Pitbull into your head), ATEEZmind... among many, many others.
You had become a kind of staple to ATEEZ performances abroad, with fans cheering when you made appearances for the interludes between songs. And the couple of times that you had been asked to be on standby for fan signs, there had been some ATINY who came up to you, as though you were the ninth member of ATEEZ, just to thank you for being there for the fans, for making the connection so much more special, and for working so hard to make ATEEZ global.
Did you cry a bit in your hotel room after that had happened? Yes - what could one say? You were very sentimental, and this kind of softness just did it for you. Also you had made a small plushie, a big-eyed, adorable kitten that an ATINY in the US had given to you, a permanent travel companion.
--
At the very start of your time at KQ, your insecurities had been running high, and you would spend sleepless nights reviewing just what you had translated, convincing yourself that you could have done a better job, writing ceaselessly on receipts, envelopes, in notebooks and in notes on your phone the myriad of alternatives your could conjure only after the event.
You had never thought that after completing your higher education in linguistics you would end up being a moderately high profile interpreter. At best, you had laid out a peaceful, uneventful life as a translator in some publishing house, spending your days in front of a computer and stacks of dictionaries. You imagined yourself to be a theorist, a silent practitioner of the craft rather than an attention-demanding performer.
That was how you had been throughout your early years. Reading. Writing. Speaking when necessary, afraid of saying the wrong thing. It was a vicious cycle. You dedicated yourself to classics, finding tranquility and reassurance in complexity and archaic passages (a stark contrast to the slang and inside jokes that you were now having to process at high speeds).
It was only in later years of university that you started breaking out of your shell, after you and a couple of your peers had been scouted to aid in an international conference. You had agreed since it would be a glorious add-on to your CV, but did not expect for it to take you as far as it had done.
If you had to use an analogy for how you felt, it would be like a surfer who just kept on living through fluke after fluke. The waves that you were being hit with were more and more menacing, approaching tsunami heights, but you were still standing, amazed that you had not been swept under.
Maybe no one was going to stop you, or talk to you on the street, ever, but the sheer thought was enough to throw you through a loop. You were not there to be a persona, nor a star. You were there because you loved languages, for goodness' sake, and had been selected to use that love in a way that helped those who actually wanted to be and were stars to connect with their fans.
Interestingly, from the beginning of your journey, you had found reassurance and comfort in one of the unlikeliest people. And really, it had been him who had ended up making a lot of things in your life just fall into place.
San.
Aside from Hongjoong, who, being the captain, was constantly interacting with all staff even outside of the immediate circle, San had been the first to take an interest in what you were doing, and why you were loitering around the corridors backstage, eyes glued to your phone.
You had at first assumed that he was going to scold you, having seen a couple of live shows where he was more than displeased about fellow members not paying their full attentions thanks (or no thanks) to the mobile phones in their hands.
But the look of genuine curiosity in his eyes quickly cleared up your concerns, and when he had begun to ask questions... you had gone on a roll. Conclusion: if someone were to ask you about linguistics, they better prepare themselves for a TEDx Talk because you were not going to serve them any less.
Although you had tried to convince yourself all throughout your higher education and work life that you did not need validation, the passionate encouragement that San had given you that day was a big driving force for you to try even harder for the Japan concerts. And even to you, your own biggest critic, the change had been noticeable. And nothing short of exhilarating.
By the last concert in the country, you were excited to step on the side of the stage. You wanted to speak to ATINY, you wanted to share the beautiful words ATEEZ were sending their way, with them. It was your duty and your desire. And it is a commonly known fact that a job that is loved, is a job that turns into fun.
It was that exact concert that had become your 'break'. Right at the end, when everyone was saying their goodbyes, San decided to give you a special mention, to which the lighting team had responded by, quite literally, putting the spotlight on you.
Over thirty thousand people in the arena, and even more online, now knew who the woman behind the voice was. They knew who was, effectively, dubbing their favourite K-Pop group.
The shoutout had been entirely unexpected, sure, and it had made your confidence crumble a little as you struggled to find the right words to both thank San and translate what was happening. It felt like two conflicting signals were entering your brain at the same time.
But at the same time, it made you feel real. It made you feel like you really had been speaking. And that you had been heard. The beauty and the curse about language, was that it was a tool to connect. Even in written form. It's perception and appreciation could only be achieved if there was a person to do it. And in spoken form, seeing the nods, hearing the sighs, any reactions from another, that was the way you knew you had done your job.
So instead of cowering away, like you would have done only a couple of years ago, you stepped into the light, in front of the audience. You thanked them from the bottom of your heart, bowing, and then, turned to do the same to ATEEZ, with perfect grace, and honest appreciation. The photographs of you had rapidly made rounds around the internet, and the hashtag #thankyouYN had climbed up in trending on Twitter for a short while.
It was odd to think that you felt at home in the environment that you had been afraid of, and that people praised you for what you had been insecure about all your life. At the same time, you did not want to be a star, and even when ATINY sent you messages, or cheered for you, you kindly tried to switch the attention back to ATEEZ. You were there because you loved languages, and had been selected to use that love in a way that helped connect the real shining, talented and hard-working stars with the loyal, brilliant and kind fans.
If your short progression from a nervous new hire to a fully-fledged interpreter with a tour under your belt were to be simplified, one could say that San had been a catalyst for your opening up. Thus, he might have been the reason why you had been made a permanent member of staff.
it was only so far that luck could carry you, and without having the skill and dedication to your name, KQ had the power to dismiss you with a click of a finger. There were undoubtedly thousands of talented interpreters out there, who would have dropped everything to go to the US and beyond. But KQ had settled for you. And you wanted to do your best to do everything in your power to make ATEEZ perfectly international.
And just like that, a whirlwind of a world tour had passed, and you, plushie in hand, and heavy luggage rolling behind you, were on your way home to an apartment that probably forgot that it even had an owner (who - shocker - still had to pay rent even when continents away). You were told that you were to have a 'bit of a break' since the group was to firstly rest, and secondly focus on local promotions for the next couple of months.
What did that mean for you? It was time to become a social recluse and freelance some translations. Another side benefit that had come from your increase in popularity was that you had come to get more commissions both through your independent channels, and through company requests.
It was easy enough to plough through the standard documents that publishing houses sent you, the only difficulty being if say, you had been translating from Korean to Japanese for hours on end, and then your next project asked you to translate English to Spanish, you would need a moment to rewire a bit. But at the same time that was the fun bit - keeping up fluency to a top-level professional standard in as many languages as you could.
What was a little less easy, but had grown to be your guilty pleasure, was the private commissions you received. Of course, you had your set of rules, limitations, restrictions - whatever one wanted to call it, but undoubtedly, the individual was more creative than the corporation. You had received requests to translate long paragraphs of breakup texts, fan fiction - though you did have to put an end to that era since you had begun to receive... interesting ATEEZ content, love poems, dark poems, essays... if it was written, you had probably received it at least once.
Since starting this little side adventure, you had been quite selective, as this was still a portfolio of your work, and you needed to keep a good image. So you were no stranger to dismissing orders if they did not sit right with you.
This was exactly what you were doing, early morning upon your return. The sun was streaming into your bedroom as you were sat at your desk, clicking and typing away response after response, deletion after deletion... until one particular request had caught your eye.
It had been sent at an odd time of night, but who were you to judge - you had not even slept yet. The writing felt familiar, friendly, open. The greeting and explanation were all respectful, and they had even commented on some of the work you had previously done.
They were also honest about how they had discovered you - they were a dedicated ATINY, and a big reader, so when they found out who the skilled Korean to Japanese interpreter for ATEEZ was, they really wanted to get to know your work better. And after doing so, felt it only right to request your services.
You were flattered, and after looking through the file they had sent - which turned out to be an excerpt from a very recently published Korean book that had not been translated to any language yet, you agreed to help. With a smile on your face, you sent back an email accepting the order, adding a reminder of expected timescales and fees.
--
"OH MY GOSH YOU GUYS IT IS HAPPENING IT IS HAPPENING IT IS HAPPENING SHE RESPONDED AND SHE ACCEPTED AAAAAAH"
San yelled at the top of his voice, nearly approaching Wooyoung's witch laugh register. Seonghwa, who had made the mistake of sitting right next to him rapidly covered his ears and winced as the action did not help - the man took him by the shoulder and started shaking him excitedly, while rereading the standard business email from you as though it was a Nobel laureate's magnum opus.
With the hoots of support from the rest of the members, they were sure to have scared off any form of wilderness and other visitors in the vicinity - since they had a few days off, on a whim they decided to get out of the dorms and enjoy nature by going on a camping trip.
Though this action seemed to result only in higher phone use than usual, particularly from San, who had reached his breaking point when it came to you.
It was obvious from the start that he was not indifferent towards you. From the quick glances in your direction, to the efforts that he had made in secret to try and improve both his English and Japanese (to the point of changing language settings on his devices and getting some novels and textbooks in the respective languages), he was always paying attention to what you were doing.
During concerts, when he knew you were out there on the stage, ready and in place before a talking segment, he would perform with even more vigour, sending the cameras his most alluring glances. He knew you would be looking at the screens, and he wanted you to focus on him.
And then there was his new role as president of the interpreter fan club. This was an inside joke floating around the fandom, becoming more popular when during a concert in the US, he had decided to jokingly test you by saying pickup lines he had learned in different languages. Everyone had taken it to be 'classic San being playful', but his intention was to just shamelessly flirt with you.
But he was the one who had ended up being flustered as you translated all that he said without your eyes leaving him a single time, a hint of a smirk on your face. It was almost like you were saying it all right back to him. Only him. He hoped that were the case.
If he were to be any more obvious, Hongjoong personally would make a public service announcement about San being all up in his feelings for you. He had busted through the wall of being just a fan like a monster truck, and was already a few months deep in the infatuation phase.
"Who's the simp now, huh?" Hongjoong could not resist taking a jab at the younger member, out of respect for the nerve cells he had lost.
The only downside was that San was not even denying it, nor fighting against the label. Instead he just kept on showing those near him the fact that he had an email from you, and in the future he would have a translation, done just for him, by you. And what fun was it if the person you were trying to roast had no verbal ammo at the ready?
"At least it's not bath water he is buying..." Seonghwa whispered, still unable to fully recover from the shake-up and massaging his now sore shoulder.
"We couldn't find it, that's next on the list." Wooyoung picked up on the retort. He approached San and patted him on the back, "Isn't that right?"
"Oh fuck off... but for real this is so cool. She is going to be doing what she loves, and doing it for me~" in a sing-song voice, he recounted, again, the battle plan that he and the rest of ATEEZ had conjured.
"See? I told you it would be a good idea." Yunho commented proudly, while climbing out of his tent. Mingi followed suit, though he did not get out fully, instead choosing to sit right at the entrance and applaud himself from there:
"And look at me go with that perfect book choice."
It had been a very spontaneous decision to pick it, but he did not have to market it as such. Since he was the one to actually go into book stores at least sometimes, the members trusted him well enough to go with what he proposed.
"Well executed, lads. Mission successful, we are levelling up." Wooyoung clapped his hands and gave a quick salute, while San was still in his own reality.
A rare silence fell upon the group. But, just as they were about to move on, with some of the members being on 'response-crafting duty', Yeosang, after much pondering, stated:
"Senpai is finally noticing you after like... a year," which finally snapped San out of his enchantment.
"HEY it's only been like... nine months... and a bit... that isn't a year!" he tried to sound convincing, but it just came out as desperate. At least he stopped himself from saying the exact number of weeks and days since he had first met you.
"Yeah, yeah, keep saying that."
"This is exactly why we are doing operation 'Love Language'." to come to the smitten one's defense, Yunho piped in, now having managed to wedge himself between San and Seonghwa, the latter mouthing him a 'thank you' with a pained smile.
"I thought it was because we are sick and tired of his shit?" Jongho asked monotonously, head perched on his hand while he had at the far end of the picnic table ATEEZ had expropriated.
"That too! But-"
"And that if he goes any harder on stage he'll turn into Magic Mike?" Yeosang took Jongho's side in a split second, them exchanging a knowing look of comrades in misery.
"Careful, ATINY might ask for that."
The captain attempted to get the discussion back on at least some kind of track, while being well aware that this group had a special talent in de-railing. And his comment did not help a single bit, instead provoking Wooyoung.
"They already do, ever been online?"
"I have, and it's either cursed conspiracy theories about our lore or thirst edits." Hongjoong pinched the bridge of his nose, getting flashbacks to an impossibly long Twitter thread that he spent half an hour of his life on, just to confirm that at this point, him and CEO Kim Gyu Uk were alone in big-braining the universe.
"I bet you watch demon line edits Joongie-" Wooyoung winked at him, and sent some finger guns.
"Right this is OFF TOPIC!" the captain attempted to rein the kids in, albeit half-heartedly.
"There's a topic?" Yeosang leaned over to Jongho and asked him, not expecting a response, since it was obviously 'no'.
"Yeah, and it is that Y/N and San are going to be in closer contact now." Wooyoung addressed the group, stretching his hands out, every bit a narrator on stage.
"But isn't it more like: Y/N being in contact with San who is parading as an ATINY with an interesting taste in books?" Mingi raised an eyebrow and questioned.
"Tom-ay-to tom-ah-to, whatever. At least they're going to be talking more personally."
"And not in front of my fuckin' salad," the maknae asserted, "I am seriously surprised she has not caught on that you are trying to pull moves all this time."
"Maybe... just maybe... I have a sneaking suspicion... that it could be the million-person audience that does it. Really sets a romantic, and intimate mood." Seonghwa added, words dripping with irony.
"Well, you guys, there isn't much that I can really do about that, can I? This is what our jobs and lifestyles are."
With an exasperated sigh, San shut off his phone and slumped down on the bench, just nearly missing Yunho. He cupped his head in his hands, and gazed off, wistfully, into the distance. As of late, when he was not practicing or performing, he would be be daydreaming, just like this.
"Maybe you could just forget that and... ask her out?" Hongjoong verbally knocked San back into the ring,
"SAYS WHO? My man, do you want me to remind you of a couple of things?"
"Yeah, please do, and I will remind you of your shamelessness and the death wish you apparently still have."
"Gents, gents! We still have a 'thank you' email to write, we need at least one brain cell for that."
Yunho's call for action ended up being the most effective of all, as the group gathered around San, and commenced shouting over one another in an attempt to write a single coherent line acknowledging that the information has been received, and that they will be paying half the fee shortly.
Why had the call been effective? Because San managed to do the impossible. He managed to drive his fellow members up the wall with his pining to the point where they could not take it anymore, and made it their mission to save San.
It was Y/N this, Y/N that. All. The. Time.
"Y/N taught me some English slang the other day, do you want to hear?"
"Did you know that Y/N co-translated this bestseller?"
"Have you heard her speaking in French? I am out here only knowing 'Paris Baguette' and she is like a native - while saying that she barely knows it."
"Did you see how she looked at me after that performance? Told you it was a good idea for me to change the outfit up!"
"Wait I'll be back in five minutes I want to say hi to Y/N!"
Even Wooyoung minimised his teasing, simply because the man was totally gone. There had been a phase for about a month where his affection towards you maybe was within the realm of reasonable, and 'light' enough for the rest of ATEEZ to poke fun at him.
But San being San, that changed fast. The more chances he got to speak with you, the more he got to find out what you liked, the more certain he became that 'you were the one', you were 'talent and skill itself' and you were the dream alive.
At the same time, San being San, he was not verbal about his feelings. Not even a bit. In his mind, that was over-stepping, and was off limits. So he did everything else 'over the top' instead.
The peak of it had of course been the 'putting you on a (well-deserved) pedestal' in front of ATINY. That had been a cry of a man who fell hard and fast in love, and that same night, ATEEZ had hosted a UN-level meeting around how to proceed. Hongjoong had already been aware that you were going to be extended a permanent offer, so timelines did not matter much - except for the remnants of the members' sanity.
Wooyoung ended up interrupting the proceedings with his screech of "IT IS OKAY TO FALL IN LOVE", and as such, the action was let go, only to see it become a much adored trend in the fandom. The members thought that this would mean major progress. But no. No, you had to be the oblivious one.
Had to be the one so dedicated to her job that you interpreted San's signals as general friendliness and support. You respected him, yes. You most definitely were grateful to him, and out of all ATEEZ members you spoke to him the most. But to none of them was it ENOUGH.
Even when he had made you to interpret his flirtations (as prompted by Wooyoung), you took it just as 'a regular day with ATEEZ', whilst making him nearly go into cardiac arrest.
That was when the plan came about. To strike through literature. Through language. To express love through the pages of a book, in the hopes of translating that to real feeling. It was convoluted, and had no real outcome except trusting chance, and fate, but San was enough of a hopeless romantic to agree to it in a heartbeat.
Because what was the fun in confessing over text, right? He had your number, you messaged one another before, but again, 'what if he ruined something by messaging the wrong thing'? Besides, he could not think of an excuse to text you outside of work without feeling like he was being too pushy.
Thus, operation 'Love Language' became everyone's problem, and everyone's daily dose of drama.
Except for you, without a clue, having brewed some tea, sat down like L from Death Note on your chair, and got to work.

International Atiny Rant
Here is my random rant as an International Atiny. These are just my thoughts as an American Atiny. Yes they will no doubt be controversial.
It's can be very frustrating being an Ateez fan who is
#1 not korean or
#2 doesn't live in Korea.
Why? because we are truly not even a thought. Now I understand that Ateez is a korean group, based in Korea, for K-pop, and everything. Yes, I understand that. I am not blind to the situation. I understand that most things being done (event wise, merch wise, concert wise, etc.) will be done in Korea or Japan. Why? because that is there home base. That is who they want their main audience to be. With that being said. Ateez is not that big in Korea and some of the people that show up to these fan events either dont know their music, dont know who they are, or straight up ignore every member they dont like. Has anyone ever noticed the full on horror stories about K-tinys and how they treat the boys? I am not saying all K-Tiny's treat them like this but there is always a story after one of their events. And now, people are making abusive threats and death threats against Hwa for the fan meet happening tomorrow. Like wtf.
It's just frustrating when Ateez is MUCH more famous internationally yet International fans get NOTHING. And if we do get something it is in LA or sometimes NY. At least give us Aniteez where we dont have to pay for worldwide shipping. Put them in a warehouse in America and give us normal shipping. LIKE GIVE US SOMETHING. The people who provide you with the most support.
And I understand that might be hard, they might not have the means to do that but sometimes it just feels like we support these groups (not just Ateez) and unless you are korean or live in Korea, you are literally not even considered a fan cause they dont give you any sort of attention. The only group that has ever , in my opinion, felt FULLY inclusive when it comes to fans all around the world (when it comes to experiences in different places) is BTS and honestly Stray Kids ( and I barely Stan them).
These are just my thoughts as an American Atiny. Feel free to leave yours. Please dont attack me. I am just venting. I adore Ateez and will always support them .

Could you do a reading on ateez thoughts on the brazilian show that they just made or what they think about the contry please?
It may seem like a little dumb question but i genuinely got curious about it
Thank you in advance love😀
ateez tarot reading
the member's thoughts on brasil and it's concert
ALL ALLEGED
somebody else asked for each member, so I'll combine both readings here hehe
general (all members, kq and staff)
they definitely feel that they were robbed a little, of opportunities, jongho wasn't there, the venue was not as big as promised, they didn't have time, fans were rude, bla bla bla. it was very reassuring tho, their first stadium, on the other side of the country, they felt energized, strong at work. but they had 0 time to enjoy, brasil is such a beautiful country, a tourist's wonderland, and they couldn't, it's a shame. I heard mingi bought a keychain.
seonghwa:
seonghwa was impacted frrr, he felt that he was dreaming, he really did wish to come here since childhood but he couldn't enjoy much, which made him upset. the concert, to him, was a dream come true, he's giving me sparkly feelings, he was really in love with the vibe and stuff, dude loves performing and the whole routine around it. he thought the rain was beautiful for the concert, but he wished to have met brasil in its tropical weather (cmon he's a tourist, why would kq do that with him 😭) he thought the place was dangerous, the 4 of pentacles comes up, holding his bag very tightly; the concert was also, the stage was a bit slippery and the boys saw many fans leaving the venue sick. he thought it was a beautiful beautiful place, he's so easily impressed, he loved it there because it was interesting to see completely different cultures, ways of living, literally night and day; the crowd and the staff are very different feom what deals with in korea, not that one is better than the other, it was just nice to see those contrasts. he also thought it was crowded, both the concert and the city, they couldn't go anywhere because fans followed them, they had to eat in super unknown places to not be seen. "I loved the meat, very salty, crispy, juicy" he wants to return as a tourist.
hongjoong
bro was so tired, he couldn't think straight, everywhere, all the time they needed him to talk and represent and work. working. all. the. time. my dude is 🤪 his mind is like shutting off, trying to stay awake, telling me his experience he was saying a bunch of nothings that he rehearsed and said millions of times before. "the entire time I was thinking 'I want my beeed I wanna go hoooome'". he is so tired, poor thing, I don't think he even knew where he was, what he was doing. he said it was beautiful, but he got near a head rest, he slept. he was not thinking straight, but my spirit guide said that he's sleeping HARD now kmkkkkkk somehow, tho, it was refreshing to him, like restoring his strength or passion or something, the feeling of achieving something new, seeing different people, different places. he just felt bigger, stablished, "I fucking did it". that's what he said. (before they came to latam, they were in LA and Japan again, and as much as they like it, it renewed his spirit to go and see what he hasn't, it didn't feel as limiting)
yunho
hes very angry, he did not enjoy, I won't go further because it's ugly. it's his own issues with the company. he said everyone's a son of a bitch, I'm laughing my ass off. he did say and show that he drank alcohol there "so icy", he's very very funny, wish yall seen it, dude's cool. he said he wanted to walk around the stadium and he couldn't, they said it was dangerous, he said he'll burn the stadium now because why not "just make it safer????" he said delicious beer and coffee, allegedly he brought home a few bags of brazilian coffee. he hates everyone and every company ever, yall please have patience with him, he's going through puberty.
yeosang
DUDE IS SO PROPER, HE IS SO CUTE.
he kept repeating he was so tired and he already forgot what happened in the concert. he loved the food, allegedly, farofa and guaraná were included and he wants more for his whole life, best part of the trip, he'll never forget. so cold, allegedly he forgot it's winter in the south and didn't pack accordingly.
san
san was feeling himself, he felt hot and sexy and desired (my whole body is cringing). the country looks nice to live in, he liked when it was calm, he liked the melancholy of the weather, it inspired him. coffee again, a hot topic, pão de queijo, allegedly, he liked the cheese itself, he said cheese puffs, I think he means bolinhas de queijo, but I am not sure cause I wasn't there. he liked his room, he liked the view of the stadium, the fan lights were beautiful. he wished fans would've been less physical, in every way, he had his space invaded and he thought fans only cared about their looks and bodies, which made him disappointed. san said he has lost his faith in humanity a long time ago and brasil solidified that. he knows he doesn't have a fair opinion tho, because his stay was so quick and packed, he wants to give it a second chance when he can just be san, hiding in his thoughts and melancholy.
mingi
mingi had the best time in brasil, mingi loved samba, mingi tried paçoca and coxinha, salgado de presunto e queijo. mingi didn't like the infamous brazilian soda, "too sweet", he said, underwhelming. such a mess, crowded, unorganized, mingi was stressed!! he was tired as fuck, people in that town are rude, fans give him no space, he was so annoyed, but he loved it there. there's this bit of plinc, like a little yellow light in his heart, he had such a bad experience but he feels so sweet, and calm, satisfied. mingi is an angel on earth, he said he had a spiritual experience there, he felt at home, which is very very interesting. he wants to know the country more personally, less expensive and rushed, more familiar. he felt at peace, although all he had were bad experiences everywhere, so tired all the time, he wants to return, it's very interesting. he loved the rain, he likes that weather, oh mingi said before that he loved the shower in his hotel because it felt like a sauna, and the fans are cool too, just too annoying, in his ears, screaming and demanding more of him, he's like "I'm just a dude! I can't" very softly, my god this man is an angel. mingi fell in love there, he really did, I think he found his second home. he feels so calm, so peaceful, at rest, familiar, so comfortable and truly happy. I have never read ateez like this before, it's insane.
wooyoung
"just another day, just another country, I just wanna go home". he seems to have dissociated a lot, he's tired, I won't bother him.

CHICHI AND THEIR SHIPS
inspired by @cafemilk-tea ♡
------ ♡
Miyawaki Sakura (LE SSERAFIM, ex. HKT48, IZ*ONE) - Sakura really liked Chichi's work and vice versa, they met through Changbin who knows Chaeyeon (soloist, ex. IZ*ONE, JYP trainee). Since then, they spend a lot of time together (as much as their busy schedules allow). They often play console games and watch dramas together while expanding their Korean vocabulary. Chichi also confessed that she had watched Sakura on stage since HKT48.
Komiyama Haruka (AKB48) - The girls met not long after Haruka confessed in an interview that Chichi was her ideal type. Both are big fans of the "Love Live!" series.
Ushio Sarina (HINATAZAKA46) - The girls met after one of Stray Kids concerts in Japan where Sarina attended. Chichi quickly "fell in love" with her gentle personality, and they have exchanged letters frequently since then, which they both find very cute and more personal. As part of promoting Stray Kids with "Circus", Chichi received a 15-minute segment on Japanese radio, "I Can Say It!", with Sarina as co-host. The program was broadcast twice a week for 2 weeks (4 episodes). During the show, there were many cute interactions between them, which ultimately stole the hearts of fans.
Myoui Mina (TWICE) - The girls obviously know each other from the label. Both are trained in ballet, sometimes spending their free time recalling some choreography. In addition, they often bring each other gifts from Japan whenever one of them is there. Both Mina and Chichi have mentioned multiple times on Bubble that they are currently together - they both always send then a short text message: "🐧🤝🐯".
Changbin, Hyunjin & Jeongin ➡️ ♡♡♡
Song Mingi (ATEEZ) - They became friends during Guerilla choreo making period, where they quickly became the loudest duo, mainly due to their loud laughs. They also often teased each other, to the point that most of their conversations, taken out of context, would have indicated that they hate each other - which only shows how similar their sense of humor is.
Choi San (ATEEZ) - San was the first one to approach Chichi during Kingdom. He then complimented her amazing dancing skills and unimaginable condition. Achieving something similar, he stated, was his goal. Chichi was very touched by his words, and after the show, away from the cameras, they quickly became inseparable. The two often train together. Chichi on one of her vlives confessed that she and San often like to tweak existing choreographies by making them more difficult. They like to feel tired and see how far they can push their limits.

— WELCOME TO THE UPSIDE ! !
with a total of 22 shows and 16 stops across eight countries, MIRAGE finally takes center stage at their very first headlining concert series: ENTER THE UPSIDE! the setlist is an attempt at performing the group’s staple hits (and solos) while feeding fans with the most beloved b-sides since debut—it also features the unreleased songs monster + shooting stars (their latest english song). the live songs will share a glimpse of MIRAGE’s lore, friendship, and lessons learned in real time. the members were able to promote their english hits at broadcasting stations and festivals throughout the many countries they visited.
tickets were in high demand before the presale period opened, especially due to the fact that the majority of booked venues were smaller-scale arenas (minus south korea, japan, united kingdom, and indonesia’s stadiums). VIP, meet & greet, and standard tickets sold out within hours overall—some instantly in certain countries— and it’s reflected MIRAGE’s overlooked global popularity beyond south korea. since the announcement of the tour, netizens have been discussing whether or not KQ ENTERTAINMENT, their small label, has the strength (and money) to continue managing/supporting MIRAGE as they continue to climb to the top of the charts… or would a different label ruin the group’s strategies?

[ . . . ] IXLUVS FANDOM BREAKDOWN
EXILE HER would announce her fandom name on JULY 1, 2018 just SIXTEEN days after her debut. named IXLUVS, the soloist explained that it’s a play on word for “I LOVE” which combines I + EXILE + LOVE all together.
NICKNAMES : ixluvies, you little fuckers, luvs, my demonic fairies
LIGHTSTICK : X-LIGHT
IXLUVS SELCA DAY : the 16th of every month
IXLUVS EMOJI : 🧚♀️
OO. FAN DEMOGRAPHICS
AGE RANGE : ixluvs demographic is wide for its age range. ranging from teens to people in their early-60s. the wide age range comes from the fact that you try a new concept with each comeback, which also sometimes involves a new sound. many fans in their twenties enjoy the more darker and dance centered tracks while older and younger fans enjoy your more light hearted and even retro-inspired tracks.
GENDER : compared to the age demographic, ixluvs are made up of a majority of females and people who identify as nonbinary or genderqueer. you have struggled with having male fans since debut as most of your aesthetics have been geared more towards females rather than males. it’s also been revealed that most of your fans are apart of the LGBTQ+ community.
REGIONS : you are most popular in east asia, north america, oceania, and europe. your largest fanbases are found in korea, america, japan, ireland, italy, australia, and new zealand.
OTHER FANDOMS THEY ARE CLOSE TO : atiny ( ateez ) midzy ( itzy ) revluvs ( red velvet ) orbits ( loona ) ujung ( wjsn ) stays ( stray kids ) moa ( txt ) insomnia ( dreamcatcher )
OO. FAN REPUTATION
ANTISOCIAL : many ixluvs have revealed themselves to be quite antisocial which mimics you and your homebody behaviors. while they are friendly and close with other fandoms, it is mostly because of said other fandom.
CLIQUE : probably one of the few bad traits. ixluvs have been known to stick together especially on social media platforms. only multis are often seen interacting with other fandoms especially on twitter.
NONCOMPETITIVE : to the older ixluvs the numbers have never been a thing. there are a few newer fans who are obsessed with streaming and voting, but most fans have learned that winning isn’t that big of thing and that you just want to make music and have a good time with them, performing.
HUMOROUS : netizens labeled them as one of the funniest fandoms due to how often they are making memes out of you. they are also well-known to use spongebob memes to represent you, much to your fake annoyance. if you see a spongebob meme floating around on kpop twitter, please go ahead and assume it’s an ixluv clowning you.
OO. FAN FAVORITES
ANTHEMS : forgive me, mmmh, obsession, mago, mama
FAVORITE ALBUMS : temptation: roots, connections: paradox, planet eater
FAVORITE ERAS : twit, psycho, mago, mmmh
FAVORITE TITLE TRACKS : gashina, twit, forgive me, psycho, black swan, mmmh
FAVORITE B SIDES : obsession, anywhere but home, naughty
FAVORITE COVERS : bang bang ( big bang ) so hot ( wonder girls ) bohemian rhapsody ( queen ) gentleman ( psy ) fire ‘ spring day ‘ blood sweat and tears ( bts ) bubble pop ( hyuna ) abracadabra ( brown eyed girls )
OO. FAN TRIVIA
ixluvs have a strong relationship with ateez’s fandom, atiny.
ixluvs don’t tend to get into very many guess however one notable fued was when they got into several arguments with dive in the past.
their nickname “you little fuckers” came about when you were on a live and a sasaeng kept calling you to which you said “yah, you little fuckers, stop calling me i’m trying to talk.”
there’s a subculture of ixluvs that involves stay-at-moms who are die hard fans. the moms have a very parental love towards you and few you as their own daughter. they have been dubbed as “IXMOMS” by other fans. ixmoms are often seen with bringing their own children to fansigns and concerts.
ixluvs are most well-known to be very respectful towards you and your privacy minus a few bad eggs here and there. netizens also labeled them as the fandom that is the most open as seen when your relationship with yeosang was revealed.

Wooyoung's Chaperone
An ATEEZ fanfic by AbsentCaryatid
Wooyoung's ankle injury requires him to make an early return from tour. You are the staff member given the difficult task of wrangling the impulsive idol.
2.8K words, Content note: gender neutral reader with a Richie brace, no romance, teen and up due to mild language, real world hassles relating to using a wheelchair

The assignment had been pitched to you as something so simple any low-level KQ staffer could do it. In fact, that was why the task had been given to you. While not a manager yet, your training had been successful so far, and the reason you ended up being picked for the unusual job of escorting a member of ATEEZ home to South Korea from Japan. The perk of one-on-one time with an idol might have sounded like an honor so early in your career, but the reality would be far different if the copious warnings to brace yourself were anything to go by.
When Wooyoung twisted his ankle on tour, he had first tried to work through the pain. Hongjoong noted his friend was not giving his best performance and pulled him aside during a break to get an answer. After hearing the reason, Hongjoong ruled, “You need to sit the rest of the concert out.” Sensing Wooyoung's objection, he added, “This is not about how dedicated or strong you are. I've seen the way you practice until exhaustion. You need to heal, and while injured you pose a risk to the rest of the team if you fall on any of us while trying to keep up.”
'For the good of ATEEZ' was an answer Wooyoung would accept. Loath to disappoint ATINY, he bargained to remain on stage as long as he was seated. The leader accepted that accommodation and Wooyoung's voice was present while the usual B.B Trippin dance crew member who rehearsed Wooyoung's choreography in the development stage seamlessly filled in as understudy.
Unable to stick to the deal, Wooyoung was soon spotted far too active and being carried piggyback by Yunho to get closer to the fans during the finale. Hongjoong caught Wooyoung's grimace when the injured man was finally let down, so Hongjoong slowly walked a limping Wooyoung off stage at the concert's end with some caring but stern words for the misbehaving member.
After being checked out by a doctor it was concluded Wooyoung needed to be off duties completely for the best chance at a full recovery from what was determined to be a sprain. Heartbroken to miss KCON Japan, Wooyoung was already feeling down. To be shipped back to the dorm before his members made him inconsolable.
With a reputation as a lovable rogue, even in his subdued state Wooyoung was still considered a somewhat difficult charge. It was not through malice, and his heart was always in the right place, but things always seemed to get out of hand around him. Each of the senior managers in turn passed the chaperone task on to a staffer of lower seniority. This is how the assignment finally landed in your lap. Your first international travel was now cut short, but the perceived prestige of the new job being temporarily responsible for Wooyoung made up for leaving Japan earlier than expected.
Showing up at his hotel room bright and early the next day, you were met at the door by a frustrated Hongjoong. “I hope that wheelchair you brought has a lockable seat belt. The way my roommate keeps hopping up for one more thing when he is supposed to let me do all the packing for him, I'd glue Wooyoung to the chair if I could.”
An innocent looking Wooyoung reclined on the bed nearest the door with the injured foot propped up on some pillows, wrapped in an elastic compression bandage and under a flexible ice pack. Glancing up from his charging phone, he tiredly gave a small wave in greeting.
Surely Wooyoung was not as much trouble as Hongjoong implied. As a recent hire, your duties for KQ had not included much contact with the idols themselves yet so their off-camera personalities were mostly unfamiliar. The managers you worked with were professional and tended not to complain, though occasional groaning about Wooyoung had been overheard from time to time. Perhaps they had exaggerated, for the man before you seemed nothing but sweet despite his saddened condition.
After introducing yourself, you got straight to business. “The sedan will be here soon to take us to the airport. Do you have all your things?”
“Just one more to go.” Wooyoung swung his legs off the bed to walk the half step to the wall socket.
“Freeze.”
Before he could put weight on his feet, Wooyoung stopped in his tracks. Hongjoong's eyes widened at your commanding tone, and he nodded in approval.
Moving to unplug the phone's cord yourself, you handed it to Wooyoung who stashed it in his bag on the bed. Unsure if it was the right tack to take with your charge, you rolled up your trouser leg, revealing a black plastic brace around the calf which was held in place with two Velcro straps over the shin.
Looking at you curiously, Wooyoung joked, “Are you going to kick my ass with your robot leg if I don't behave?”
Hongjoong snorted.
The temptation to say 'yes' was strong, but you resisted, remaining serious instead. “I used to turn my ankle all the time as a child. After so much damage I now have a pinched nerve that requires my foot to be stabilized to keep the pain away. You keep clowning around like that risking reinjury and you might need a Richie brace too.” Realizing you made your orthotic sound like a punishment, you amended, “I love my brace for the mobility it returned to me, but my own dancing career was sidelined and I don't want the same to happen to you. I have been told you are going to need to baby that foot for four to six weeks as it is. Don't let it get worse.”
Wooyoung looked cowed, making you wonder of you had gone too far, but then he grinned a moment later. “I like it when you are firm with me. Everybody else outside the members seems a little intimidated by my idol status and ends up being lenient. No wonder you got this job of babysitting me.”
This time Hongjoong's laugh was far stronger.
Your unexpected skill was far from the reason you had gotten stuck with Wooyoung, but you weren't about to lose face when he was considering behaving, so you let the comment pass without correction.
“I see you are in good hands,” Hongjoong noted. Looking to you he pled, “Please take care of Wooyoung and see him home safe.” He then turned attention again to his member. “We will follow you in a few days. It will go fast. Be good.”
Wooyoung reached from his seated position on the edge of the bed for a hug before departure, but Hongjoong deftly stepped back with the reflexes of both a dancer and someone with a lifetime of avoiding most physical touch. Seeing Wooyoung's face fall, Hongjoong relented and gave a partial embrace. You suspected it would have been warmer without your presence, so you busied yourself wheeling the suitcase to the door and getting Wooyoung's shoes from the entry.
Your own medical history had well prepared you for the role of temporary caregiver. Transfer from bed to wheelchair as lightly on the bad ankle as possible was something you had mastered long ago from the patient side of things, so it was an easy matter to reverse roles this time. After gently placing Wooyoung's shoes on him, you explained how you were going to move your patient with a minimum of stress to his injury. With the newly purchased manual wheelchair now opened and locked in place alongside the bed with footrests swung aside, you asked for permission to touch Wooyoung.
He looked at you with wonder. “I'm so used to staff just touching me for wardrobe and makeup that what you have described won't be a problem. Thank you for asking though. Not everybody would think of my boundaries like that and I appreciate it. I should do the same for you. Are you okay with my hands on your shoulders like you described for the transfer?”
It was now your turn to be awed as you nodded consent. With fans cheering their every move, it would have been easy to become self-centered as an idol. Instead, the two men today had been very thoughtful and humble. Hongjoong had responded immediately to your earlier request to get a belt from Wooyoung's suitcase to make transfer easier. Actually, it had been more of an assignment to the leader of ATEEZ since your attention was solely focused on Wooyoung's needs. Hongjoong had kindly accepted your apology as soon as you realized the mistake.
On the count of three, you gripped the belt and smoothly helped pivot Wooyoung on his good foot to the chair while he held your shoulders for stability. Being so closely face to face with a star like this was unexpected. You had seen Wooyoung's charms in performance videos. In person his charisma was even more impressive. But, that was not why you were here, and it was distracting. In different circumstances you might have welcomed his approach, but not on the job. Still forming the words to ask Wooyoung to tone it down, Hongjoong noticed your quandary and stepped in.
“Your chaperone is working. Can it with the flirty looks.”
Chastened, Wooyoung explained he had unintentionally been in fanservice mode. Taking Hongjoong's advice to heart, he even checked his shirt buttons and secured the last one over his chest. “Sorry, it is a habit,” he admitted.
“I'm taking care of you because it is my job. You don't need to be pleasant to earn it. In fact, it would not surprise me if you feel grumpy or down because of the pain and that is okay.”
Reminded of his need for medication, Wooyoung set an alarm for the next scheduled dose then returned the phone to his pocket. “All set,” he announced. As Hongjoong held the hotel room door open, Wooyoung was given the task of maneuvering the rolling luggage by the handle while you pushed him in the wheelchair. His light bag for the short flight was placed in his lap and your gym bag, the totality of your own luggage for the trip, was already in the transport KQ had rented for the tour.
Hongjoong joined you in the elevator for a final goodbye before heading to the day's activities for the remaining members. Working well as a team already, you successfully transferred Wooyoung and his suitcase into the vehicle then collapsed the wheelchair and placed it in the back. Hopping in, Wooyoung patted the seat at his side and you relented, even though you would be alongside him for the duration of the flight soon enough. With a skill for storytelling, he was soon revealed to be a good travel companion.
“You know, as a trainee before my first international flight the others teased me about what the plane would be like.”
Laughing at the antics of his teammates Seonghwa, Jongho, and his specially noted friend of many years Yeosang made the ride to the airport pass quickly despite thick traffic. Hefting the wheelchair out again, for a moment you wondered if there had been a more convenient way to get Wooyoung off the injured ankle. Back at the dorm he would begin using crutches, perhaps Jongho's on loan until he was fitted for his own, but to make travel less tiring he had agreed to the wheelchair for now.
Once the luggage was checked you made it through the arduous security process for wheelchair users. Wooyoung's jokes and pleasant demeanor kept your own spirits up through preboarding for people with disabilities and their attendants. He appreciated you dealing with the hassle of insisting the wheelchair be stored in the plane's cupboard for that purpose rather than risking damage in the cargo hold.
Now settled, you both pulled out anything needed in flight then stowed bags under the seat. There was a moment of silence before Wooyoung launched into chattiness. He did have a lot to say. Any lull in conversation was filled by facts about ATEEZ and anything else that caught his interest in the moment.
“Did you know Jongho's left ear is higher than the other? He is left-handed too, but I don't think that is related. And Mingi has a mole below his eye but it is only makeup to be like me. Mine is real though. Try and rub it off, you'll see!”
“No, thank you.” You shook your head, dazed by the steady patter. Now that you were getting used to it, it was pleasant though. The constancy of his attractive voice was like gentle rain punctuated by harsher thunder of surprisingly high-pitched cackles that caused other passengers to turn heads.
By the time the plane began a descent toward Seoul, you realized all the warnings about Wooyoung had been for nothing because the two of you got along so well. It turned out your charge was not a troublemaker so much as a nonstop talker. Perhaps Wooyoung's instantly friendly approach might have been off-putting to some of the other employees, but you had not minded his style at all. The conversation had been reciprocal too. Wooyoung had listened attentively in turn, and by the end of your flight you recognized a feeling of warm friendship toward the idol.
Luggage claim went smoothly, but the trip to his dorm was another introduction to disabled life. With ATEEZ scheduled to be in Japan for another week the driving staff was either with the tour or had the time off. Wooyoung fumed when the first rideshare passed you up with a dirty look once they saw his wheelchair. You couldn't help but agree with Wooyoung that the frustrations of dealing with a health problem are compounded by unnecessary grief from other people. Luckily, another person came along soon enough.
Two people, luggage, and a wheelchair were confidently loaded into the vehicle by the able driver. Garrulous as ever despite the wear of travel, Wooyoung had made yet another friend by the time his dorm's building was in sight. With one final transfer to the wheelchair from the car, Wooyoung was back home.
Once you settled him on the couch you checked in with your boss. “Mission accomplished. Is there an aide coming? I don't want to leave Wooyoung alone when he needs to stay off that foot.”
“One should have been there by now. Let me check my messages. Okay, looks like I have some good news and some bad news.”
Having very quickly figured out the bad news, you first decided hear the part you didn't know.
“You are promoted to manager now due to this assignment. You've had a trial by fire and come through with flying colors, and the approval of Wooyoung too by the sound of his glowing texts to San that were passed along.”
You resigned yourself to confirmation of what you already suspected. “And the bad news?”
“Looks like the caregiver booking fell through due to nobody currently available at the agency we usually use. Congratulations, you are assigned Wooyoung full-time for the week until the rest of us get back.”
Overhearing the speakerphone conversation, Wooyoung whooped and let out an effusive, “Bestie!”
You put your gym bag down on the coffee table. Clothes packed for the trip would do just as well for working in the dorm. “I guess I am home now too then.”
The situation actually wasn't so bad. Schedule already cleared while expecting to be in Japan, you had nothing planned outside work. The recently purchased couch of the new dorm looked comfortable enough for keeping yourself available round the clock until other staff returned. It turned out not to be needed, though. Hongjoong offered his own bed one room down the hall once he heard about the situation from Wooyoung. It had taken some convincing on Hongjoong's part, but being better rested to serve Wooyoung was a compelling argument.
Not one to brag, you wouldn't be revealing to anyone you had slept in Hongjoong's bed, as innocent as it was with him still in Japan. At any rate, it was a far better offer than sharing with Wooyoung as he so kindly suggested. You would do a lot for your job, but you wouldn't go that far. While you trusted he would keep his hands to himself despite a tendency toward clinginess, you knew he would keep you up all night with talking and laughter. Fun in other circumstances, but not when you had a week of caregiving work to be well-rested for.

Music Monday #237: ATEEZ - Everything release: December 2023 genre: Kpop, K-R&B cw: flashing, arson, a relationship dissolving on screen
And now for something completely the same: ATEEZ's final unit MV from WILL, in which everyone cries and things end up on fire. Look, no one ever said K-dramas lacked in, well, drama. ;) The lyrics spoil the story, but if you really don't want any spoilers, watch the video before continuing further.
Obviously a solo song from Jongho was going to be a ballad - in previous years, when the team was less busy, his solo content was a series of covers for kdrama OSTs. He's main vocalist for a reason and don't even get me started on his Mayfly-V stage during Kingdom. Everything is every bit as soulful and heart-wrenching as any ATINY could have expected, a song about loss and regret and knowing you can never make right the things you did wrong, but oh, if you could.... The soft piano opening, the way Jongho pours his whole heart into his voice from the soft opening to the soaring high notes of the climax that then trails off into soft wistfulness once more to the end ... you may need to keep a tissue close for this one.
This music video, unlike previous unit videos, is almost entirely story mode, as Jongho flexes his acting chops once more, now with less baby face. Most of the flashing is at the very start, where the video flashes through snapshots of the scenes we'll see play out a bit more in the video, so the bigger warning is really if watching a relationship fall apart on screen is a bugbear of yours. The lyrics already spoil the narrative, since the song starts out talking about never being able to see the other person again, but the video offers more context to why things ended up that way.
Interestingly, this video was shot entirely on sound stages - yes, even the snowy night scenes, which was a surprise to me, too. And it's not CGI snow - watching the behind the scenes, I was surprised and impressed at the number of practical effects where others would have gone with computer-generated. Some of the fire at the end is very obviously computer-added, but it's combined with actual on-set controlled fires that the old-school film fan in me quietly appreciates. Plus the snow. So much fake snow, it's a delight ... until Jongho told me how they made the fake snow and now all I see is that. XD
And now ... the lore paragraph! As with Youth, Everything is firmly planted in the A 'verse, with Jongho as a former basketballer living with his girlfriend until they break up because he's been a shit boyfriend. This means we've moved along the timeline a little bit, though that fits with the lyric in Youth talking about being in their twenties - Zero Fever implied Heroteez were still in high school. Of course ATEEZ lore has never been entirely linear and considering ATEEZ were already in their twenties during Fever era, the warehouse scene from the diary could just as easily be happening closer to this than first appearances lead us to believe. So once again we're left with more questions ... and the recent teasers ATEEZ have released have been no help at all - I have no idea where Not Okay is going to fall and ANITEEZ are in Halateez garb, soooo. Who knows. Not me. XD
This is the last WILL unit MV ... so of course yesterday KQ put out a performance version of MATZ which has almost no footage overlap with the original MV. I had initially assumed the difference in shooting days (Everything was one day, the other three shot for two days each) had to do with Jongho being on his own for this project. But now I'm wondering if secret performance versions also contributed, since the other three have dances and Everything doesn't. I suppose we will have to wait and see.
WILL is still available for purchase, ATEEZ just wrapped a two day concert extravaganza (based on what I've seen from it so far) in Seoul to kick of another world tour (additional dates in Japan in February, further tour details to come later), and oh yeah, Coachella in April, so another busy year of travelling the world, kicking butt and taking names.
