What I love about mitski albums is that you listen to them the first time through and think hmm interesting!! And maybe there’s a handful of lyrics that stick out to you but slowly over time the songs come back to haunt you like dreams and creep into your consciousness and you feel compelled to play them again and again

Reading up a bunch of myths for the Apollo fic and... what's the deal with him and the metamorphosed lovers?

Like Kyparrius apparently becomes the cypress tree, but the cypress also exists before/at the time of Apollo's birth. Hyacinthus becomes the greek hyacinth (the iris) but irises are also one of the flowers that Persephone collects?

Even if we take it that Kyparrius was metamorphosed into a cypress tree, instead of the cypress tree; and Hyacinthus was an iris instead of the iris, there is no way to explain the spring.

Castalia is either a nymph that fled from Apollo's pursuit and turned into a well, or was the feminized name of a son of Apollo (how do you make the jump from unwilling lover to son😭), or just existed presumably even before Apollo was born??

I don't want to discount any myth/story simply because it came later, but dear gods. The writers are not making it easy for me.

Oh happy to oblige! It is a screenshot from this scene in Haunted House Hang-Up, one of the best og Scooby Doo episodes. I have posted about it before.

I highly recommend watching the full episode (all parts should be easily findable from that link) for some prime 60s cheese, but my favorite thing about it is the villain. uhhhh spoilers for Haunted House Hang-Up (1970) start below I guess.

This freak lives in a dilapidated old mansion alone, and gets tired of people bothering him about his ancestor's legendary treasure supposedly buried on the property, so he invents The Legend of the Headless Specter himself to??? deter people from trespassing I guess? He never actually says why in his denouement, and he admits that he doesn't believe the treasure is real, so it can't be that he was trying to scare away treasure hunters as competition.

Anyway he spends every night wandering around his empty house in costume and in character to scare anyone who comes by and chase them around, and lend credence to the legend he made up, along with several magician-style tricks to add to the hauntedness. Which is just very #goals to me. That is absolutely what I would be doing if I lived in an old and storied house.

This exact behavior of course causes the Mystery Machine to break down right outside his house due to the plot gods. Idk man if you live in the Scooby Doo universe and want to be left thoroughly alone, inventing a ghost story is probably the last thing you should do.

Just bought laurel and I had to remove like 4 plugs worth of her hair because it was knotted so bad. Felt like they just submerged the poor girl in a pool of hair gel too. She smelled like burning plastic and other such chemicals. It’s a shame, I was excited to get her bc she looks like a humanized version of my favorite color changing del sol nail polish.

people saying laurel hell was their least favorite album/the fact that it's mitski's least streamed album is insane. to me, personally, because that album had me in a grip when it came out last year. 4 of my top songs were from laurel hell. i wouldn't listen to anything else except for like. punisher maybe. or one of my playlists. but no according to everyone else they didn't really like laurel hell or they straight up hated it o(-(
