i think my latest fanfiction sojourn might be what finally pushes me over the edge into actually writing again. mostly because i haven't been so at odds with the popular fanon interpretations of a main pairing in uhhh actually possibly ever. it would mean having to subject myself to another rewatch of a movie for which I have the world's most tepid feelings but. Honestly I haven't felt this motivated to write in years. and it's not that the fics I've been reading are "bad" some of them are certified bangers I've just had the most unfortunate onset of 'nobody understands this character but me' syndrome come over me and like! i can either fume silently, complain about it annoyingly, or write what i want to see in the world. so! gonna ride this wave of irritation all the way to the bank baybee!!!!
#oh it's inception btw lmao#why does 90% of the fandom write eames Like That#this isn't my first time riding the arthurxeames carousel i have no idea why it's bothering me so much this particular go around#so many fics have him as this like. loudly obtrusive and gregarious fop doling out pet names and oscar wilde witticisms#i mean i also don't vibe super heavy with an eames who's been pining after arthur for years pre-canon#but i at least can see in the canon how a fic author could arrive at that interpretation#not that you need canon justification for whatever dynamic you want to play with these are paper dolls we're gluing outfits on for funsies#but i am irritated! it's honestly very exciting!#gonna incept myself into writing again by reading fic from people who have fundamentally opposing character interpretations!

also like. after that last reblog i thought to myself belatedly, okay, but given that i'm always saying it's more responsible to examine a snippet in context i should probably practice at least a little bit of what i preach, so i went and looked up what wilson had done with the rest of that sentence and uh—
εἰ δέ τις ἀθανάτων γε κατ᾿ οὐρανοῦ εἰλήλουθας, οὐκ ἂν ἐγώγε θεοῖσιν ἐπουρανίοισι μαχοίμην.
in her rendering apparently becomes
If you are one of the immortal gods descended from the sky, I come in peace— I am not one to fight the heavenly gods.
'i come in peace'???? not only is that made up out of whole fucking cloth, it's giving jarringly incongruous first-encounter-with-aliens vibes. 'take me to your leader (priam).'
and then there's that 'descended,' which first of all is, imo, a pretty heinously baroque way to render what's ultimately a form of the language's most straightforward word for 'come'? but it also, even less forgivably, introduces a new and confusing ambiguity to the sentence, such that it's now unknowable whether the descent in question is literal or lineal unless you refer back to the original greek—like, hello, it's entirely possible for a god to be descended from ouranos in the genealogical sense! that's a perfectly plausible interpretation of wilson's english! but it's absolutely not a possible interpretation of homer's εἰλήλουθας.
obviously you can't judge a whole translation on the basis of one sentence, but. can't say i'm too impressed with what happened to this one. :/
#like if i wanted an english translation that was neither wholly comprehensible without consulting the greek#nor wholly trustworthy in its rendering of it#i could just read lattimore#at least he wouldn't offer me eg 'nonentity' as a rendering of οὐτιδανοῖσιν#like. what a weirdly aesthetically incongruous choice!#and then in wilson's footnote she points out that οὐτιδανοῖσιν sounds an awful lot like οὐτι-Δαναοῖσιν‚ which is to say roughly#'nothings of danaans'—which is a neat‚ smart observation! i hadn't noticed that before!#but at that point i felt like‚ okay‚ so if you weren't contented with the dictionary's 'worthless'—#doesn't something like‚ idk‚ 'do-nothings' very immediately suggest itself for the sonic echo?#or like‚ dare-nothings is worse sonically but maybe better semantically#but 'nonentities' just seems like the worst of all worlds to me—an active‚ obtrusive choice that doesn't seem to add anything!#idk‚ guys. wherefore all the hype…#ktema terpnon#translation#emily wilson#the iliad

why do you drown your screenshots ?
at least for me if theyre screenshots of other tumblr posts sometimes they tend to blend into the rest of the post in my mind and make it a little confusing as to where the post starts and ends, so its mostly for visual distinction. i also think its funny though
#the water filter is one of the least obtrusive thatre built into the tumblr app and i cant be assed to#actually edit pjotos for this reason. so. theyre going in the water

This is what the early internet was like - the early 90s was a perilous time online, except most of the intrusive and loud ads were ALSO installing trackers and malware and -
Oh. Wait. We've come full circle, except people are just kind of okay with being constantly tracked online, now.
One of the paradoxes of the modern internet is that I genuinely understand sites need to get revenue somewhere, and while I don't love ads I'm actually okay seeing relatively unintrusive ads on a free site, hearing words from sponsors, etc.
But the modern internet is so full of modal popups and video ads on autoplay and trackers that using it without an adblocker is basically impossible, so everything gets blocked.
#I've 100% realized that ads are as bad now as they were when I was like 10#loud and obtrusive and they block shit you're reading or watching#at least adblock plug-ins exist in this era

i really thought "the cycle" stopped at gen 5 because it's still getting so much (mostly deserved) hype that gen 6 just hasn't? but i think- hold on this is gonna be a real haterism ill put a read more
the cycle just kinda skipped gen 6 (because there's nothing worth defending besides megas LMAOOO) and went straight to gen 7. so now everyone is lauding it for how good it is (at having a horribly unsatisfying region layout and grinding your forward momentum to a halt every 10 steps to tell you about another location or character)
the story isn't even THAT GOOD there's just more story relative to other pokemon games
popplio my baby i gotta get you outta there you are the only thing in alola that matters to me [realizes i can only move it to swsh or scvi] aw balls
#ive actually been having a lot of fun in swsh finishing the dex and shiny hunting#but it is NOT a good game without the dlc and i can't defend the whole package from being a ninety dollar game#the story is awful too but its got style and its at least a little less obtrusive to you actually playing the game#but the postgame - if you DO have the dlc - has a lot to do and places to run around and things to collect and etc#so i cant hate it

Simon Riley who causes readers jaw to lock mid giving him head? ( or maybe an individual reaction list thingy for the tf141?) (please stay w me here)

simon riley causing reader's jaw to lock mid blowjob the image is cracking me up T-T (simon can lock my jaw any day...)
simon wasn't going easy on you. hips fucking your face with primal ferocity bordering on feral. your chin coated in saliva and pre, glistening under the low warmth of the bedroom lights.
the angry tip of his cock repeatedly slams the back of your throat, your nose brushing the trimmed hair at the base of his length. your breathing is labored, chest heaving up and down as you do your best to breath through your nose.
your scalp stings from the tight grip simon has with his hands tangled in your hair, only further pulling down on his dick while he uses your mouth. your pussy is sopping like you've sprung a leak between your thighs, throbbing and begging for a hint of stimulation.
a throbbing pain aches throughout your jaw, and, instinctively, you try to shut your mouth despite the obvious obtrusion in the way. it only serves to make the aching worse, a wince making your eyes twitch and water further.
simon is too fucking gone to notice, but three taps on his thigh makes him wilt like all blood rushed away from his previously swollen cock.
his vision clears from the haze, his tight grip on your hair becoming a soothing massage against your scalp as he looks down at you.
you're a mess—and the prettiest thing he's ever seen in his life—but his heart stops as you clutch your jaw. the guilt he feels once he realizes what happened is immense.
he grunts. "fuck, baby, y'okay?" he's profusely apologizing, cradling your face in his hands as he works to clean you up. "sorry, love. jesus, should'a been more careful, hm? fuck, yer gonna be okay."
he swipes the tears from your face with his thumb, his touch gentle as he dresses you and himself. simon isn't taking any chances as he rushes you to the nearest medical center, restraining himself from squeezing the life out of you in fear he could hurt you further.
the nurses ask you what happened when you arrived, and leave it to simon because you obviously can't speak. the stuttering, flustered mess he becomes is comical, you almost laugh—you try to, actually, but the pain makes you cry out softly.
lets just say, simon bans blowjobs for at least three to four months after that. he doesn't want to take the chance of hurting you, so actually make that all intimacy because he's scared he'll cause you pain in some other way—regardless of if its deliberate.
he's not taking his chances.

Miller's Law Snippets
Snip 1 💤
And so she stayed like that. One arm curled around his torso, face nestled into the narrow space between his shoulder blades. — A protective barrier, shielding him from the darkness of his own mind.
Whenever she sensed that he might be submitting to it again she’d move their conjoined hands to his chest/heart, trying to imbue as much warmth and comfort and… well, love, as possible. Willing his heart-rate to return to a normal rhythm. And she'd speak to him. Using the same soft, consoling timbre she reserved for anxious patients. It seemed to work, for he’d soon grow still again, drifting back into what she hoped were pleasant, happy dreams. Dreams of things and people and places he loved. The rose garden at Frost Manor. His favourite memories with Jacqueline and the Twins. Endless games of Elemental Ball…
He was fully-thawed now, but his fingers remained icy, frost creeping from his palms, across the counterpane, and after awhile Lucy’s own fingers began to ache and burn. But still, she didn’t let go. She stayed there for hours. Hours upon hours, watching dawn crack over the horizon like a robin's egg, spilling its golden light across the Canton de Bern. Watching the sky shift from pale blue to silver-grey and snow begin to drift down in large, fluffy flakes. Watching morning bleed into afternoon, and afternoon into evening, and night settle into all the room’s nooks and recesses like the ink in the creases of her palms.
Still, she didn’t let go.
Eventually the clouds cleared, and the sky stretched before her as a great, glittering vault. The silver river of the Milky Way was so much more vivid out here. She never saw this many stars in New York.
And Jack stayed sleeping, snoring softly, stirring minimally, his hand tightening in hers, every so often, the odd murmur drifting from his lips. Sometimes they were unintelligible. Other times she could make out certain words. Names, more oft than not. His mother’s. Jacqueline’s. Even her own, on one occasion.
She was overexerting herself, she knew. Using her powers to excess. He was going to be cross with her, when he did wake. Chide her, lecture her. But she hardly cared. She would make sure he got the rest he’d been so sorely deprived of if it killed her.
How long had he been suffering like this? she asked herself, again and again. He’d said they came in cycles, but how long had they been this severe? And how bad of a doctor — a friend, moreover — was she, for not having uncovered the truth sooner?
After a full twenty-four hours she was forced to get up to use the washroom, as well as grab something to eat and drink, all of which she did as swiftly as possible, before returning to his side (his other side now, seeing as he was one of those people who tended to gravitate, catlike, towards the centre of the bed) with her laptop in tow. He had begun to look a little strained in her absence, so she carded her fingers through his hair, pressed a kiss to the groove between his brows. And that seemed to do the trick.
She put on Season One of Gilmore Girls, keeping the volume low, and settled in for another long shift.
The room was well-lit and warm now, a fire crackling merrily in the hearth, and Lucy couldn’t help muse that, amidst all the grief and the horror — the gaping, cavernous knowledge of her own infirmity -- she felt… oddly at peace. Like they were living in a kind of vacuum, away from the rest of the world. A perfect, snow-capped bell jar.
It helped, she supposed, that Gstaad had a real fairytale feel to it. Like something out of a Hans Christian Andersen story.
Finally, around fifty-three hours after he’d first fallen asleep, and while she was almost-but-not-quite drifting off to Monty Python and The Holy Grail (a favourite of his), she felt a groggy chuckle reverberate against her left side, and glanced up to find him grinning at the screen. His hair was a complete mess, thanks to her ministrations; making him look a bit like a lion coming into its mane.
‘I love the Pythons,’ he said, huskily.
‘I know.’
‘Most people don’t know why they named it “Monty Python”. It was because they thought it sounded like a really bad theatrical agent. Did you know that?’
‘I didn't,' Lucy said fondly, angling the laptop more towards him. ‘Good Fact. I'll remember it for next time I see dad.'
He sat up a bit, rubbing his eyes with the hand that wasn’t connected to hers. A little colour rose in his face, when he took notice of the fact, but he didn't let go. Quite the contrary, actually -- he gave it a gentle squeeze, running his thumb over her knuckles.
‘Mmgh. Jeez. My joints are killing me. How long was I out for? Couple hours?’
'Uh... little more than that, actually.'
'How much more?' His fingers trailed over his chin, which was noticeably stubbled. He frowned. 'Wait a minute...'

Snip 2 📱
‘Christ, I know. She’d be beside herself. But there’s very little we can do right now to—’ Melusine was cut off by the sound of a phone ringing. ‘…Do you hear— ? …Who’s is that?’
Lucy’s, it transpired; recognisable by its bright pink, flowery case. It lay abandoned on the kitchen table, half buried beneath a tea towel. The contact flashing on the screen made Jack’s skin crawl with dislike.
“Matt (Weird Sevens Guy)”.
‘Oh, he can bugger right off! The rotter,’ Melusine growled, tossing her empty bowl into the sink as if it had just declared itself a close associate of said "rotter"(...?). ‘That’s the LAST thing Luce needs right now. I can’t bleedin’ stand that man, Jack. Always sniffing around her, like a hyena.'
'Yeah, what's up with that? It's like, uh, hello? Get a hobby, maybe? ...Preferably one that involves heavy machinery and very lax safety regulations.'
'Too right. He's trouble, I swear. You know what I’m going to do? I’m going to answer, blow a raspberry down the phone and then hang up.’
‘W-- now, Melusine,’ Jack chided, yanking her back by the hem of her blouse.
‘What? That’s funny!’
‘Funny, sure. But somehow I don’t think Lucy’d thank you for it.’
‘So? She’s not here to nag me about it, is she? And what’s more, she’s not the boss of me. Or you, I hasten to add. …Actually, scratch that.’ She smirked at him. ‘We both know that’s not true. You’d stand in the path of an oncoming train, if she asked you to. Oh wait—’
‘Yeah, yeah—’
‘--You did do that! What a lark.’
‘Hmno. No, no. SHE did that. Charged full tilt towards it, in fact. I just happened to be clinging to the back of her broomstick, at the time.’ Jack shook his head ruefully. ‘It was—’
‘Attractive?’
‘—terrifying.’
‘Terrifyingly attractive. Tell me I’m wrong.’
‘…The woman has a screw loose, is-is what I’m saying.' He cleared his throat. 'Stark raving bonkers, as you Brits would say. And here I’d been under the impression that she was the better adjusted, of the three of us.’
‘Oh come now, you always knew she had a reckless streak.’
‘A reckless streak, yeah. Mm-hm. Totally. The key word there being "streak". What I didn’t know was that she was the second coming of Knievel. Sectionable, by all accoun… what’re you doing…?’
Melusine now had Lucy’s phone in hand, and Jack was concerned to see her typing up what looked like a—
‘Virtual curse,’ she explained, casually. ‘Nothing too serious, of course. Won’t do him any real harm. Just turn a very specific part of his anatomy into an eel. Eheh. See what me makes of th— oi! Give it back!’
‘Are you serious right now?’
‘Look, I know you’ve developed a “conscience”, or whatever, since your thaw,’ she huffed, standing on her tiptoes to try to snatch the phone from his grasp (a difficult feat, given their difference in height). ‘And that’s lovely — bravo. Very happy for you. I, on the other hand, misplaced mine centuries ago and have yet to rediscover it. I suspect it’s buried at the bottom of a sock drawer somewhere, though I really can’t be arsed to look… I’ve therefore ze-ro scruples about giving our mutual nemesis the ol’ what-for.’
‘This has absolutely nothing to do with “conscience or whotever"; I couldn't give less of a shit about what happens to that guy. In fact it would give me no greater pleasure to watch him have to waddle his way to the DMI ward. I'd just rather not end up in Lucy's bad books, as a result. Things are going really well between us right now, if you hadn't noticed? And I'd prefer to keep it that w-- ...don't look at me like that.’
‘Oh, but it’s just so sweet.' Melusine simpered, clasping her hands together kittenishly. 'The Great and Powerful Jack Frost, all… twitterpatery. Never thought I’d see the day!’
‘I’m not— i-it’s not because I—' She raised a sculpted brow at him. 'Look, shut up, okay?! I just can’t afford to lose any more strikes! I only have the one left! And I really don’t wanna find out what happens when I reach naught.’
‘She’ll probably just make you do lines or something. I wouldn’t worry.’
‘Or, she might jinx me! Put me in a full body bind.’
‘Don't act like you wouldn't enjoy it.’ Melusine sent him an arch look, making him flush. ‘But fine. If you're that much of a jessie, I'll take the brunt of any potential Miller ire.’
‘Pfft. As if I’m going to trust that.’
‘It’s the truth!’
‘You’ll have to forgive me for being the slightest bit dubious, given… you know. Every single one of our interactions over the last two centuries.’
At her mulish look Jack sighed, realising that he was fighting a losing battle. Though he truly didn’t want to buy himself a one-way ticket to the dog house, he couldn’t deny that seeing what’shisname (Mason? Murray? ...Sketchy, overly-solicitous guy who didn't come anywhere close to deserving the object of his "affection"?) receive a good cursing was an attractive prospect.
A very attractive prospect.
Hm.
‘Y'know what...? Fine,’ he relented. ‘Whatever. You reap what you sow, Melville. Do as you please, just leave me out of it.’
‘What I’m sowing is chaos, and I have my fingers crossed for a bountiful harvest.’
‘…In that case, an electric eel would be far funnier. Just a thought.’
‘My, my!’ Melusine's brows did the milage to her hairline. ‘Two good ideas in under twenty-four hours. That must be some kind of record! Remind me to mark the occasion in the official "Jack Had an Idea" Excel spreadsheet.’
Jack was just about to respond with his own (far more cutting) witticism when a sleepy voice from the doorway said, ‘Why do you guys look like you’re scheming?’
The two of them jumped, turning to find Lucy standing over the threshold, looking charmingly dishevelled.
While Jack smiled dotingly, all other thoughts fleeing his mind at the sight of her, Melusine, startled by her appearance, grabbed the phone from his hand and lobbed it at the window, which shattered.
There was a moment of confused silence.
‘…Bollocks. Could’ve sworn that was open.’
__
Snip 3 ⏳
‘What’s the matter?’
And there it was, Lucy thought. The Look. The one that always made her feel like he could see under her skin. The familiarity of it, after all these years, was like a blow to the jugular.
‘N-Nothing, I--’ She drew in a shuddering breath. ‘I’m just... having a bit of a hard day, s’all.’
‘Why?’
‘…I… miss my friend. ...A lot. I haven’t seen him in a long time, you see. A very long time.’
‘Where is he?’ The boy cocked his head curiously, resembling a bird listening for earthworms. ‘Did he die?’
Kids. So forthright.
‘No. No, honey, he didn’t die.’
‘Then why can’t you see him?’
Lucy’s lips twitched.
Hiking up her skirts, she knelt down to his level, studying his narrow face. The same face she mapped out in her mind each night, before she went to sleep, so that she wouldn’t forget. Every line, every furrow. Every repressed spasm or overexertion of emotion.
Piece by piece, the memories settled around her. Like snowfall. -- A worried grimace as he sat at her bedside, holding her hand through what, at the time, had been her worst surge to date. A sleepy grin, as he watched Monty Python over her shoulder, while the world outside faded to white. Deep concentration pulling his features taught as he tinkered at his Steinway. The panicked, pleading look he'd sent her when she left him slaving over a hot stove with her mom and Nana, while she, Charlie and her dad retired to the basement to "assemble furniture" (drink beer and watch the Bears game). Countless looks of gentle reprove, mixed with grudging amusement, whenever she teased him about his eccentricities. The brief flashes of pride and adoration she'd grown increasingly better at catching, in the months preceding her "Jump".
The mingled shock and delight, that afternoon at the cottage, as the heady scent of magnolia drifted in through the window and the rain thundered on the roof. Arguably her favourite memory of him.
...The abject terror, as he lay writhing in pain--
No.
No, that one she would not think of. That one she made a concerted effort to bury, stifle. Locking it away, in the deepest, darkest recesses of her mind.
This face, though… this face was smooth and bright, filled with the earnestness of childhood. The lofty bone structure, the crooked nose, the dimpled cheeks. The blue, blue eyes. It was all him. And at the same time, it wasn’t. Not quite. Not yet.
To look into his eyes after all this time and not have him recognise her, even a little bit...? Hurt more than Lucy would've ever thought possible.
‘It’s… it’s complicated, kiddo,’ she said, eventually. ‘Grown-up stuff, y’know?’
‘Well.’ He drew himself up to his full height, puffing out his chest importantly. ‘I don’t wanna brag or anythin’, but I happen to be very mature.’
‘Oh, is that so?’
‘Yep! My teacher said so. Said that I’m the most prec-- prero--'
'Precocious?'
'Reprocious boy in my class. And that's why I find it hard to make friends.'
'You do?' Lucy put a hand over her heart. 'Oh dear.'
His ears turned a little pink, as if he'd disclosed more than he'd intended to.
'N-Not that I care! Why should I? They're all dunderheads anyway. And I'm special. I'm gonna do Big Things when I leave school!'
‘Really now? Golly.'
‘Mm-hm! And then they'll ALL wanna be my friend. But by that point it'll be too late, 'cause I'll be rich and famous and everyone will know how great I am.'
It made so much sense, in hindsight. So much sense. All he'd ever wanted was to be accepted. Understood. Lauded for his intelligence, his studiousness, his unparalleled talents. To make the people he looked up to proud. He'd just gone about it in a totally roundabout way, steered off-course by his wicked old uncle. His deepest insecurities warped into something far more sinister than they would've been otherwise. At his core he was just a troubled little boy.
It would be so easy, the thought came to Lucy suddenly. So easy to simply scoop him up in her arms -- thaw him there and then. The curse wasn’t overly evident yet; not to the untrained eye, anyway. But it was there. Lurking just beneath the surface. His big blue eyes had a near-imperceptible chill to them. His face, though more flushed than that of his adult, frozen self, was nevertheless quite pale. He was a ticking time bomb.
If she diffused that bomb now none of it — none of the pain, the heartbreak, the guilt and the regret — would come to pass. He would have those years his present self mourned so dearly. He would have his family. His sister.
He would be happy.
And oh, how she wanted that for him. For all of them. The zany, ragtag family she'd grown to love so dearly over the years.
But she couldn’t. She knew she couldn’t. She’d been given strict instructions by Father Time. Though it went against her every instinct, she had to let things play out the way they were meant to. The way they already had, for her to be here in the first place.
'Annnnyway, point being: I think I can handle “complicated”. So if you need someone to talk to, I'm your guy.' He grinned at her, all dimples and charm, and Lucy’s heart swelled with affection. She found herself caught between laughter and tears. It seemed inconceivable that her love for him could continue to grow any more than it already had, and yet... in that moment, it did.
It might’ve been easier to believe him, on the "maturity" front, had he not been talking with a subtle, but nevertheless noticeable, lisp — most likely a result of his missing front teeth. To say nothing of the sizeable blob of jam in the corner of his mouth.
‘Even so, lil' man; I wouldn’t wanna bring you down,’ she said, with a gentle smile. ‘Plus, I… I don’t really feel like talking about it right now.’
‘Hm. That's understandable, I s'pose.’ He nodded seriously. ‘Welp. If it makes you feel any better, I’m sure he misses you too. Your friend.’
'You think?’
‘Sure! I mean... you seem like a nice person. I think I’d miss you, if I were him. Or he were me. Or whatever.' A little more colour rose in his face, and he glanced away bashfully, scuffing the ground with the toe of his shoe. 'I think... I think I'd be really glad to have a friend like you, actually.'
When he looked up again it was to find silent tears running down her face.
'Oh! Ah… was it… something I said?’
‘No, no, I just… that’s very s-sweet,’ Lucy warbled, dabbing her eyes with the sleeve of her cloak. ‘Thank you.’
In the next moment she found a familiar, embroidered foulard being thrust into her grip. She took it gratefully, letting it sit in her hands for several seconds. The silk was softer than she remembered it being.
‘This is l-lovely. Are you sure you don’t mind me using it?’
‘'Course not.' He waved her off. ‘My father says a gentleman always gives a crying lady his kerchief. It’s the chirivus-- chivrulus-- honourable thing to do.'
‘Oh and he's quite right. Your father’s governor, isn’t he? Governor Frost?'
'Ya-huh! That's the one.'
'He's a great man. I mi-- like him very much.’
‘Sometimes he takes me to work with him, and I get to boss people around. It’s really fun.’
‘Mm, I bet.’

Yes! Thank you for reading <3

roommate!James x shy!reader ♡ 804 words
“Honey, I’m home!”
A smile tugs at your lips, even as you roll your eyes to yourself. James has become more and more fond of these pet names, and of announcing his comings and goings like he’s worried you’ll miss him. (He’s never gone long enough for that, though you might actually miss him if he were.) If you don’t respond in some way or another, he’ll—
“Hey.” He pokes his head through your cracked door. “You alive in here?”
You pause in folding your laundry to give him a deadpan look. “I could have been in my underwear.”
He looks mildly horrified. “I’d hope if you were, you’d close the door all the way.”
“You know, I did manage to stay alive even before you moved in.”
James leans on your doorframe, giving you the sort of lazy grin you have to pretend doesn’t scare butterflies into flight in your stomach. You really hope that wears off soon. “See, but now I’m convinced if I don’t check on you, you really will die and it’ll be my fault.”
“How would it be your fault?”
“Classic case of roommate neglect. I smell the rotting coming from inside your room, the police come, they ask How did you not know your roommate was dead for a month? I reply, Well, officer, she said she could be galavanting in her underwear at any moment. They put me in handcuffs and I spend the next five to fifteen years having Sirius bring me cigarettes I don’t want so that I can trade them for ramen noodles in the yard.”
You scoff, fighting a smile. “As if you would ever eat ramen.”
“That’s what I’m saying, sweetheart. You’d be forcing me upon desperate times. But hey,” he raises his hands in a show of surrender, “I didn’t come in here to discuss prison currency. Would it be alright with you if I had friends over tonight?”
“Of course,” you say, looking back down to match a pair of socks. “You don’t need to ask every time, it’s always alright.”
“Thanks,” he says warmly, “but it makes me feel better to ask. What do you want on your pizza?”
You blink. “Me?”
“Yes, you.” He smiles. Butterflies all over again. “You don’t have to hang out with us to eat it—though we’d love to have you—but I’m not just going to order pizza to your own apartment without having any for you.”
“It’s your apartment, too,” you remind him. “That’d be a very normal thing to do.”
“Irregardless.” James waves you off. You wrinkle your nose at the word choice. “What do you want?”
You swallow a sigh. There are some things, you’ve found, James is nearly impossible to argue with about. If you really dig your heels in, sometimes you can make him move first, but you don’t feel like it right now.
You do the next best thing you can think of: choosing the least obtrusive option. “Cheese is good with me, thanks.”
His eyes narrow like he knows what you’re doing, but he says, “Got it. I’ll let you know when it’s here.”
“Thanks.” You turn your attention back to your laundry. James lingers in the doorway.
A month ago, you would have kept ignoring him, working on the (unfounded) hope that he’d go away. Now, you look up.
“Do you think you might come downstairs and hang out?” he asks. He has a strange look on his face, one you can’t quite decipher. “You know you’re always invited.”
You give James a terse sort of smile. He’s not stopped inviting you to do things since the day he moved in. Your open invitation has been made very clear, and you’ve been accepting it more often lately. James is someone who makes it easy to feel close to him. He tosses pet names at you like they’re nothing, comes to check on you when he gets home, pretends he needs to go grocery shopping just because you need a ride to the store. Last week, you’d sat down to watch a movie with him and woken up to a black screen, your cheek smushed into his shoulder and his head resting atop yours.
Somehow, you’ve let him spill into your life without meaning to, and now you have these childish, crush-like reactions whenever he smiles a certain way or calls you pet names with that familiar bent to his voice. You know you just need time to sort these feelings out. It’d probably be ideal to keep yourself from spilling into his life as much as possible in the meantime.
But it’s hard to deny James anything when he’s so sweet to you. And he’s nice. His friends seem nice.
“I might,” you say.
“I’ll take the win,” James replies, smiling. These butterflies are seriously inconvenient.

kid megumi starts a fight. you and satoru finish it.
being fresh out of high school while simultaneously taking care of a second grader was an interesting experience, to say the least. today was no different.
"oh my god; he what? i'll be there in a second, fucking hell," you sputter as you all but shoot upward from your desk, sweeping the post-mission paperwork to the side and grabbing your car keys from the bedside table. the car makes strained vrooms while you impatiently pump the gas pedal, accelerating down the street like a bat out of hell. swerving into the nearest parking space you could find, you forcefully swing open the door to the front office to find satoru waiting in a plastic chair. he mutters an exasperated oh, thank god under his breath before standing and taking your hand, leading you down the hall to the principal's office.
"is he okay?"
"he's fine, i promise." you look at him skeptically, remembering all the times megumi was "fine" yet had scrapes that satoru didn't know how to clean up. "i'm serious. i saw it myself. the nurse cleaned up his nose and iced the hit on his face."
"he got hit in the fucking face?" your jaw drops in shock and you quiet your voice to a hushed whisper outside the principal's office door. "what the fuck happened that he got punched in the-"
"fushiguro's guardians, please come in. we're ready for you," an irritatingly nasally voice calls from inside and it takes all of your willpower not to blast the door open until it's shredded to pieces. megumi's principal sits behind an obtrusively large wooden desk, with the boy sitting by one end and two empty chairs at the other. you immediately drag one of the chairs over to sit by his side, but a wrinkled hand stops you. "please sit across from him, not beside him. he must receive proper punishment and that begins with accounting for his own actions," the principal instructs you and you catch satoru's jaw clench in restrained anger. he wanted to tear the principal's head off for telling you what to do, especially since it was regarding megumi.
"i'll decide where i want to sit, thank you," you reply with forced politeness, sliding the chair next to a defeated megumi. he scoots as close to you as he can and links his pinky finger in yours. it's small, but you know he's trying to manage his anxiety along with yours. satoru shrugs indifferently at the principal but shoots you a proud wink when no one is looking. "they cleaned you up, yeah?" you ask megumi softly and he nods, wincing slightly when your knuckles lightly brush the bruise on his cheek. "i'm sorry, baby-"
"fushiguro instigated a fight with three sixth grade students, all of them older than him. we believe he may have developed issues dealing with his emotions, specifically anger," the principal informs you and you make a great deal of effort to wipe the glower from your face. "student witnesses say that he struck first, and-"
"do you know why he started the fight in the first place?" your eyes narrow on the scrawny, shriveled man behind the oversized desk and he shrinks away slightly.
"no, b-but we believe that violence should not be-"
"violence or not, shouldn't you be responsible for understanding why this occurred outright?" your voice is strained and tense, slightly shaky with repressed anger. you stare daggers into the old man's sunken eyes and catch satoru watching the whole scene with pride. here was a man who knew nothing about a child you considered your own, trying to argue that he started a fight for no reason when you knew megumi would never harm a bee, even if it stung him. before you're able to start a physical fight with the idiot school official that probably saw more board meetings than actual students, satoru's voice cuts in.
"forgive me, but i don't appreciate your tone-"
"we'll be sure to properly discipline him at home, sir," he states emotionlessly, and you wordlessly thank him for wrapping the meeting up quickly. after a few more glares and aggressive signatures on paperwork waiving the school of any responsibility for megumi's injuries, you walk out of the office with satoru's arm around your shoulders and megumi's hand grasping yours. "alright, firecracker. you fizzled out yet or do we need to take you to a kickboxing class real quick?" he presses a tender kiss to the side of your head, clearly unbothered by the way you barreled through that ridiculous meeting.
"put me in an empty field away from people, and i'll make a kickboxing class look like a fucking knitting circle," you mutter vengefully as satoru chuckles under his breath.
"alright, megs. you gonna tell us what happened or are we actually going to need to get you a therapist?" megumi glances off to the side, irritated, but you squeeze his hand once in reassurance that, no matter what happened, you'd figure it out together.
"they were hurting tsumiki," he says quietly and both you and satoru freeze, looking at each other in careful understanding. "she was saying it was just a joke, but i caught her crying while we were walking home."
"so, you decided the best option was to fight them," you say slowly. satoru's hand rubs loving circles on your shoulder and you ask the question you've been holding onto since he called. "well, did you beat them?"
"i did, and that's why everyone is so angry," the boy shrugs and you huff a tired exhale. "are you mad at me?"
"no, megs. i'm glad you defended your sister, but i wish you'd told us what was going on before acting on your own."
"yeah, we could have helped you," your boyfriend whispers and you elbow his stomach lightly. not yet, you mouth to him. let's drop him off first.
"the kids said they were going to get my parents involved. is that why you're here?"
"yes and no," satoru says, opening the car door for you as you slide into the passenger seat. he could have warped back to the school, but he'd silently indicated that he wanted to drive all three of you back. "yeah, we're here to come get you; but, unfortunately for those shithead kids-" you turn to face him in the backseat, a conniving smile creeping onto your face.
"we're not your parents, and we're gonna need those kids' names."

hey what DO you watch on youtube? seems like you'd have some neat recommendations :3
i really loathe the like super-highly edited sound effect post-mrbeast slop most of youtube is now so i mostly like stuff that's like... calm and sedate. stuff i've been watching lately in no particular order:
northernlion vods and clips. he's an OG. i especially like his react court series, i must have watched all of them like five times.
speaking of OGs i've been watching zero puncutation (now fully ramblomatic) for like ten years and if anything it's only gotten better. best game review content on the internet. been really enjoying his more recent, slightly longer and more thoughtful 'extra punctuation/semi-ramblomatic' series too.
any austin's skyrim unemployment rate videos. instant classics to me, it's just a guy going around in skyrim trying to figure out the unemployment rate in every town. it's a very dry kind of humour, he plays it admirably straight, and it's weirdly calming.
kitten arcader's foot the bill videos. in a kind of similar vein, he watches the saw movies and then produces an itemized bill for everything jigsaw needed to buy to make his traps. it's kind of like... if cinemasins was fundamentally curious instead of fundamentally incurious, it scratches a similar sort of nitpicky detail-oriented quantifying itch but without inimical to the concept of art.
shuffle up and play. it's a magic the gathering play series that has enough editing that the gamestate is actually legible but not enough editing (or at least, not enough obtrusive in-your-face editing) that its annoying. i also like that they reguilarly play non-edh formats like cube and pauper.
spice8rack. i'm pretty picky about video essays but spice8rack has very obviously actually read books and has interesting things to say about the topics it discusses (mostly magic: the gathering). sometimes it has a kind of grating Theater Kid Energy but the fact that it actually meaningfully structures essays and analysis to earn the silly long runtimes is a rare delight from a video essayist.
jenny nicholson is a long-time favourite and another permanent fixture in my rotation. she's just extremely, remarkably funny which makes her the only 'basically just summarizing a thing' youtuber i think is worth the time of day.
i watch some sketch comedy, mainly wizards with guns and aunty donna, who both consistently put out really funny stuff that's kind of ITYSL-adjacent in its barefaced absurdism and contenmpt for concepts like "stopping a joke at the logical punchline". i also really like alasdair beckett-king and binging the old clickhole backlog for short-form comedy on youtube.
wolfeyvgc is right on the edge of the level of editing i find tolerable but as a long-time fan of multiple esports he Has It, he's absolutelyt fantastic at t elling the narrative of a tournament, explaining plays clearly, and generally making competitive pokemon esports thrilling and interesting ti someone (me) who#s never played it and doesn't care about pkoemon that much
i religously watch every elliespectacular/dathings YTP, the absolute best in the game right now, top tier snetence mixing and really good at actually setting up and paying off jokes in a way it feels like a lot of ytp doesn't. verytallbart is also pretty good.
trapperdapper is a channel i recently binged, it's a really fucking funny parody of minecraft challenge content that veers slowly from obvious angles of parody into pure absurdism with tons of blink-and-you'll miss it subtle visual gags.
too much future is a great youtube series where the two guys from just king things/homestuck made this world play through every fallout game and analyze them in that context. extremely funny and also just top-tier very sharp analysis. really good
another one of the rare good video essayists is jan misali. they're really funny and will go into topics that kind of seem narrow or strange to begin with in such depth and make them so interesting that it's consistently astonishing.
oh and finally sarah z makes pretty good videos. 'the narcissist scare' is an absolutely brilliant deconstruction of one of the most annoying pop-psych phenomena of the last couple years. and remarkably well script supervised i think did anyone else watch it and think 'wow the script supervisor on this must have been, a mind geniuse'
ok i think that's all i've been watching lately. hope you like whcihever of these recs you check out :)

love your writing about hsr characters as a cat can we have more of them please 😭🙏🏻?
reader x jiaoqiu, castorice, sunday + robin (separately)
possible ooc
part 1, part 2, part 3
Jiaoqiu
Your most (not)calm and most cunning cat. If you have other pets, he gets along well with them.
He likes his food to be at least a little more spicy than it should be. One day, he managed to steal a couple of hot chili peppers and added them to his main "dish." I take it it's logical that he then lay with indigestion and suffered?
He's crazy about cooking in general, so you cook exclusively with him. However, you need to make sure that he doesn't bring anything sharp to your hand. But hey, it's fun to cook with him.
Once you were cooking soup and you had to step back, and you jokingly told Jiaoqiu to meow if the soup started to boil. What was your surprise when he actually came and started meowing and the soup was boiling. You looked at him a little askance.
He has a very fluffy coat. Like, really. Especially the tail. He had to buy a lot of hair care products: shampoos, conditioners, various balms. But it's worth it, after a couple of hours after bathing and spa treatments, it looks like it's from an exhibition. P. S. He is calm about bathing.
If this guy does something wrong, in most cases he can get away with it. You swear that you sometimes notice his smirking gaze.
If you are working, he will sit next to you in the loaf position and wait patiently. Your movies go like this - you're sitting on the couch, and Jiaoqiu is lying on your lap. Go to bed with your arms around each other. Bonus points for fluffiness and quiet purring. You don't want to get out of bed afterwards.
When you feel bad or sad, he comes up to you, purrs and licks your face. You hug him, and after a while you feel better.
He treats visitors neutrally. He will either lazily sit on the couch and watch them, or he will sit next to you in the loaf position.
You love and appreciate each other very much. Like, really.
Castorice
A very affectionate and sweet cat. At first, she shunned you when you took her from the orphanage, but gradually warmed up to you. She started answering to her name and "talking" to you.
She's well-mannered, so she has her place at the table. You have breakfast, lunch and dinner together.
She loves it when you brush her fur. You bought her a nice comb that doesn't scratch her skin. Castorice purrs softly because she likes it when you pay attention to her.
She is not afraid of water because she is a strong girl. The same goes for cutting claws and going to the vet.
You once bought a small crown, put it on Castorice's head and shaped it. Now this photo is on your phone wallpaper. She looks so adorable that you can't resist taking a couple of photos.
She usually treats guests neutrally, but if she notices that you're uncomfortable, she'll glare at that person until he feels uncomfortable. But the most interesting thing is that when you look at her, she looks like a little angel. This man, suddenly fearing for his life, hurriedly leaves the house, and you exhale with relief.
Castorice loves to cuddle with you. Whether it's cooking, watching movies, doing work, or reading a book, she'll be there for you. She's not obtrusive, she's just like that.
So that she won't be lonely while you're away, you made her a plush cat. Sometimes when you come home, you find her sleeping and hugging this toy.
Castorice has become very attached to you, as well as you to her. One could only dream of a better life.
Sunday + Robin
Do you know these "take one item, get another as a gift" promotions? We can say that this case is about them. Your furry little siblings were overexposed at first, and then they stayed at your home.
Robin is a little more playful than her older brother, and a little more talkative. Sunday is more collected, but this does not negate the fact that he also likes to chat from time to time.
They listen to you attentively when you can't contain your emotions and you just need to tell someone about what happened. And how can you resist when you have two wonderful listeners?
Your water treatments are quite fun, although sometimes they take a long time. They play with water and bubbles, and of course they play with you. Then they relax in a soft towel in your arms and gently dry.
They have the right balanced diet, and sometimes you buy them treats. They also have some cool toys.
Siblings once fell asleep hugging each other on your bed. You took a picture of them before they woke up, and put the photo on your desktop.
They immediately notice the difference in your behavior and feelings. Therefore, to make you feel better, they will come up to you and start purring. It relieves all stress immediately.
They react differently to the guests. If Robin can get to know a person there, or greet them, then Sunday keeps his distance and makes sure that this/these person/ people do not try to harm his family members (Robin and you).
You're also traveling together. You save up a certain amount of money and when you have a vacation, you go to different places with your cats. Once you were at the sea, in the forest on a picnic and many other places. They are very comfortable to ride with, you definitely won't get bored.
These siblings love you very much, and so do you. There is always a cozy and peaceful atmosphere in your home.

delirious
does a confession count when it comes from someone delirious with fever?
alhaitham x reader
you’re clearly sick with fever, you know it, alhaitham knows it, and even your professor to whom you’ve never said a single word knows it. so why are you, wearing a black mask, coughing up a lung, and a second away from sleep, in lecture?
alhaitham has his own hypotheses to that particular question, but the fact remains is that there’s still about ten more minutes of lecture and he doesn’t know if you’re going to make it. not because of death—at least, he certainly hopes not—but because he meant it when he said you’re a whisp away from dreamland. one blink might send you head first into a fever dream, and you honestly think you might be in one when alhaitham silently packs his bag and silently moves through the lecture hall to sit next to you.
“what are you doing?” you whisper.
“taking you home.”
you cough before responding, and alhaitham cringes at the sound.
“home?”
“back to the dorm,” he clarifies.
you and alhaitham both live in the same dorm, though you only realized it when he came knocking on your door, with only the message of “you’re being too loud, i’m trying to study, please quiet down” when you opened it. your roommate was understandably annoyed by his obtrusiveness, and you were too, to an extent. until you told your roommate the very next day you thought he was cute and recognized him from lecture.
a lost cause, your roommate called you.
a lost cause was right.
“why?” you ask again through another cough.
alhaitham shrugs. “consider it me doing something nice.”
“but you’re not nice?”
alhaitham raises an eyebrow. your face is pale and laced with confusion, and if the statement didn’t come out as a sincere question, alhaitham would be much more offended. presently, he’s a little miffed—of course he’s nice, just when he wants to be, which may or may not be less than the average person—and has just realized something very interesting.
you don’t have much of a filter when sick with fever.
you’re also not very… present. he had to nudge you when the lecture ended and the professor started packing up. he had to subsequently coax you to pack up, because you told him you were so tired you could fall asleep right there and then.
“you can’t do that.”
“but why?”
“it’s too warm in here and lecture chairs are uncomfortable, and another class is coming in.”
“i don’t care,” you told him, a pout gracing your features.
“well, i do,” alhaitham says, standing. he looks down at you. “now, are you going to let me walk you back or are you doing to stay?”
“stay.”
so you have a streak of stubbornness when you’re sick, too. alhaitham rolls his eyes and starts packing your stuff himself, tossing in your laptop (which hasn’t been touched the entire lecture) and notebook (which also has remained unopened) and even takes your phone, plopping it in before zippering the bag shut, tossing it over his shoulder, and heading towards the exit.
it takes you a second in your hazed state to realize what happened before you pull yourself up and out of your seat and into the hallway. alhaitham’s nowhere to be found and you’re about to unleash a string of curses on his good name before you hear footsteps behind you.
“ready to go?”
you glare at him. “isn’t it a crime to mess with someone who’s sick?”
“a crime? no. morally wrong? maybe.” alhaitham shrugs, a slight smile tugging on his lips. “but that’s something for the philosophers to decide.”
you huff as you walk along side him, out of the lecture hall and onto the main campus. it’s a cold winter afternoon and you pull your sweatshirt around you tighter. maybe you wouldn’t have gotten sick if you didn’t insist on not wearing a winter coat when the temperature is near freezing. but then again, if you hadn’t gotten sick, then this serendipitous exchange might not have occurred.
as if reading your thoughts, alhaitham asks, “did your forget your jacket?”
“i didn’t wear one.”
“why not?”
“i am immune to the cold.”
“i assume that’s why your sick.”
“i’m not sick,” you tell him. a following series of coughs proves you wrong and has alhaitham raising his eyebrows. “okay, maybe i’m a little sick.”
“maybe just a little,” alhaitham agrees with you.
you spend the remainder of the short walk in silence, and it’s only when alhaitham leaves your side to open the door to your dorm that you realize you’re back. you think that, if this were any other time, you’d be thrilled and blushing that your crush walked you back to your dorm. he even insisted upon it. a part of you is, but it’s unfortunate you can’t outwardly show it—that is, you don’t really have the energy to.
you also can’t believe this is actually happening and real. your mind is currently afloat in a realm of feverish haze, a sign that you need a nap, but before you can unlock your dorm door, alhaitham pauses ourside of it.
he clears his throat and looks down at you staring up at him, like he’s a comet in the sky. “why did you come to lecture today? you’re clearly not feeling well.”
you stare at him through a sick-filled haze, like you might currently be lost in a fever dream you can’t quite wake up from. like you don’t know if it’s him asking or a fragment of your feverish imagination playing a trick on you.
“because i wanted to see you.”
the words, said so innocently, echo in alhaitham’s ears. you look as if you’ve either forgotten what you just said or unsure if you said anything at all. in the back of his mind, alhaitham wonders if him prying you for your feelings on him would also be a moral debate for the philosophers, but decides to press a little harder, dig a little deeper.
“why did you want to see me?”
“because…” you hesitate, tilt your head, consider the question. “because i like you?”
like the statement from earlier, it comes out as a question. as if it’s something obvious that you’re having a hard time believing alhaitham doesn’t know. as if it’s a simple truth, like the sky is blue, so simple it shouldn’t need explanation.
if you weren’t so sick right now, you might have blushed and looked down at your shoes before blinking up at him through your eyelashes and saying something coy. but like alhaitham realized earlier, you have little to no filter right now.
“i’m going to take a nap,” you tell him, before unlocking your door, waving goodbye, and shutting it firmly in his face.
alhaitham blinks, looks around for a second, then focused on your closed dorm door. he thought you might have liked him—especially when you started glancing at him more during lecture, and even asked to be his partner for a homework assignment. but could he really trust a confession from you in your addled state?
alhaitham shrugs and turns away from the door and walks down the hallway to his own room. when he enters, his roommate looks at him inquisitively, because alhaitham’s blushing, and alhaitham never blushes like this, but he brushes him off. alhaitham decides he’ll ask you again for confirmation when you’ve recovered, just to make sure.
but now he’s starting to feel sick, and wonders if he also might have a fever—from whatever sickness you have or a newfound lovesickness, he can only hypothesize. (it’s probably the latter.)

Honestly what's keeping me going in this very moment is the idea that someday relatively soon I will absolutely inundate your dash with pictures of literally every single pokemon and it won't matter if I do it in the least obtrusive way possible because that's still 1025 (one thousand. TwenTy Five (enunciate that)) individual crochet works of art that I will Make You See. Imagine the chaos.
#text#i have always liked to assert my existence in this way#when i played dfo i abused a text glitch to spam megaphones and clear the chat and it was so delightfully stupidly chaotic ❤️#but this way is going to be absolutely insane#blogger lore
