This place can get fucked.

No, seriously. You’re seriously starting to hate this place.

You’ve been hanging on one of your last threads of self control for the last day. And really, it’s fraying so fast that you can feel your muscles twitch from the lingering stress in your body boiling over into anger.

But you’ll bite your fucking tongue bloody to make reason and maybe correct this. 

You’re not confident that'll happen though.

“W-Wait! You can’t just throw them out over a tart! We’ll just take it and go!” You try to make him see reason but so far, reason is the last thing this world sees. After all, if it did, you wouldn’t be so terrified of Ace and Deuce. And yes, you’re only defending them because the sooner this mess is over, the sooner you can actually sleep tonight. But still, this is completely outrageous. 

But since this dorm’s rules come straight from the loony bin from a tyrannical dictator that got what she deserved in the end, and the person enforcing them is about as oppressive megalomaniac as the inspiration…what the hell were you expecting?!

“Yeah! If you want the tart gone, let me eat it!” Grim makes a dash for the tart, but all it takes is for an angry glare from Riddle for one of those terrified card soldiers to quickly take it and throw it out. Isn’t that just great? All that hard work for nothing.

For the first time since this mess started, Trey takes responsibility for messing up Ace’s apology, and sending his dorm leader into a tizzy. “Dorm Leader, allow me to apologize. I was the one who suggested making a chestnut tart!” 

Thankfully, Cater takes a little responsibility too, considering he was the one that caused this tea party to turn into a mess. “I was a part of that too. We had no idea there was a rule about it!”

But Riddle’s just as uncompromising as he was at lunch yesterday. “The making of the tart is not the issue. The issue is bringing it HERE. Today. THAT is the transgression!”

“We were going to bring it earlier, it’s just we were unexpectedly..” You grind that out as you glare at Cater for that stupid detour, “distracted! How can you be so mean and uncompromising after he worked so hard! You have to think it’s at least a little stupid to live by these foolish rules!”

“Yeah! All you do is cite one stupid rule after another! You sound totally foolish!” Yes! Thank you Ace! At least someone else disagrees with this complete insanity.

Riddle’s face goes from angry to furious, “What did you just call me? ‘Foolish?!’” 

Cater grabs you and Ace by your arms to pull you both away from the rising argument, “Everyone, stop! Don’t dig this hole any deeper! And Riddle, please try to remember that these are new students who’ve only been here a few days!” but you wretch your arm away. You already know that Riddle hates excuses IN apologies, and you’re not apologizing to this self-righteous pain in your ass.

Thankfully, Ace doesn’t buy the BS being spat out right now, “Nah, bro. I’ve got a shovel and I am DIGGING. Throwing away a tart to obey some insane rule is about as foolish as it gets.” 

“I agree with Ace. Of course, I understand that rules do need to be followed, but…This is going much too far.” Deuce is on your side too, thank the seven. Someone else isn’t going to stand idly by for this fever dream.

“Too far is an understatement.”  You say point-blank. “You’re acting like a crazy person over a tart! You can't deny that you're being foolish!”

Riddle’s angry glare falls on you “A person like you has no right to tell me what is and isn't foolish!” 

Is he referring to you? And why is he- “Though I can't say I'm not surprised by your reaction, considering how your kind tends to act” Oh no.

To the ears of others you hope that they think that he's saying that you're just a troublemaker, but you know that he thinks otherwise. Because he already knows you're a darling. And he knows that you know that. 

Which means that if he wanted to, he could reveal who you really are to anyone within earshot. Which is especially bad considering that Ace and Deuce are already suspicious of you.

This isn’t good…..

Maybe you should shut up for now.

Probably satisfied that he shut you up, he receptors his focus and rage back on Ace. “And you…Are you attempting to debate me? Bold move, but I’ll bite. By breaking even the smallest rule, you are throwing wide the gate to anarchy.”

You feel the urge to point out the obvious about how insane he's acting over a tart, but instead you bite your tongue. 

Regardless though, Ace is there to say what you can't. Now very fed up, Ace gestures to the silent audience to this ‘debate’.. “Everyone, I know you’re afraid of getting your magic sealed away, but you know this is insane, right?”

But instead of speaking their minds, all of them jolt at being put on the spot, fidgeting and squirming in fear of the dorm leader's wrath. “N-No, we, uh….”

Some actually look like they’re willing to speak up against Riddle’s leadership, but whatever attempts at resistance there are in the crowd, they are squashed as soon as Riddle’s angry glare is set upon them. “Well? Isn’t it?”

“Far from it, Dorm Leader Riddle, sir!” One brave/cowardly soul says from the crowd and the bystander effect comes into effect full force. Because as soon as that one person gets his words out, the other card soldiers follow suit. “We trust in your judgment, sir!”

Once again, it’s just like your dream with the card soldiers standing idly by next to their fellow cards’/ dormmates’ abuse. You hate your dreams, stupid bad omens. Stupid self-serving card soldiers…

“You little…”

“You spineless, fair-weather cowards…” Ace mutters at the betrayal of his dormmates and fellow victims.

Now probably overconfident from the residents’ denial of his tyranny, Riddle starts some spiel. “In the year since I became Dorm Leader, not a single student from Heartslabyul House has dropped out or been held back a year. We are the only house that can boast such a feat. Furthermore, of everyone in this dorm, I have the best academic standing.” Whatever point Riddle’s getting to, his statements aren’t really the proof he thinks it is, just because they’re still here doesn’t mean they aren’t planning to leave. Also, doesn’t the fear of failure push you to break the rules to avoid failing?

“What does that have to do with anything?” You Someone can be super smart and still be very wrong.

He pauses in his tirade, speaking slowly, like you're a child incapable of understanding what he’s saying. “Hence I am the most correct! If you would simply obey me without question, we wouldn’t need to contend so.” Okay, rude. You bite your tongue to stop yourself from offending him further, but seven only knows you want to.

“Listen, we-” 

Riddle interrupts Deuce, isn’t there a rule about interrupting someone while they speak? “It’s not off with their heads because ‘I’ want to do that. I do it because rules must never be broken.”

Still completely pissed about the fact that you might have In the corner of your eye, you see Trey cross his arms looking guilty. There has to be something wrong between the two of them. Because what Trey wouldn’t defend Riddle so much  and then not tell him when he’s wrong if there wasn’t something strange or tense between them. 

“If you will not obey me, then I will have all of your heads!” This isn’t just being a control freak, this is being a total dictator. Even some of the most overbearing control freaks can understand that mistakes are a human characteristic.

Cater intervenes again, to play peacemaker, “Okay, let’s all say, “Yes, Dorm Leader Riddle.” and screw that. Revelations be damned, you can't just agree with him because you're scared about what he'll do. That'll make you no better than the others staying silent.

“I can’t.” Deuce 

“Me neither.” You cross your arms in indignation. “What you’re doing is just unfair.”

“Yeah, ____ we don’t bow to self-important tyrants!”

Riddle’s cheeks turn red as his anger grows.

“What did you just call me?” 

“He called you what you are. A tyrant.” You repeat, what you're doing is very risky but still he can stay mad about it. Darling or not, you're not going to leave this alone.

“Yeah Henchman’s right! You wanted to destroy good food just ‘cause you’re throwin’ a tantrum!”

“Guys, I don’t think we need to escalate this-” It’s much too late for that. Because before Deuce can finish his sentence….

“Off! With! Your! Heads!” 

There’s a flash of light and in seconds there’s a tight pressure around your neck. You cough in surprise and “Aw shit.” There’s a collar like Ace’s around your neck. And Deuce and Grim are wearing them too. Why? Speaking your mind isn't against the rules!

Still boiling mad, he spits orders like the tyrant he is. “Trey! Cater! Eject them from the premises!”

For the two very lively people they were, they immediately turn to the reluctant drones that the other card soldiers are once Riddle starts yelling at them, “...Yes sir, Dorm Leader.”

You shrug Trey's hand of your shoulder and glare at him in distaste. He doesn’t want to meet your eyes 

“You’re supposed to be our ‘mentors’!” Ace objects vehemently at the betrayal. And all the two can do is spill empty apologies. 

“Sorry, but we can’t disobey our dorm leader!” 

“Sorry, man..”

They  were fine with it yesterday. Glad to know that was all for nothing.

“Oh, that’s how it’s gonna be? Then bring it on!” Somewhere in this conversation, Ace must have forgotten that everyone about to be thrown out either had no magic to begin with, or can’t cast it thanks to the stupid collars. So obviously, they get trounced. It was kind of sad really.

Before Trey pulls you out, you yell at Riddle “Hey Rosehearts! I don't have magic. Take the collar off!” It’s already unfair that Deuce and Grim got one for questioning his authority, you getting one is just cruel and unusual punishment. 

He gives you a snide look, “Perhaps you should wear it for a while too. Since you seem to have forgotten it, it might help to properly remind you of your place.”

 This little…..

Trey and Cater kick you out before you can paint Riddle’s ears with the full capacity of your swear dictionary.

So. Now what?

“I'm gonna kill him.”

“_____-”

“No, Deuce, no, I’m serious.” It’s one thing to saddle Ace and Deuce with you for another fucking night, but then to collar you, an non-magic user, just because he got butt hurt. You hope someone chops off his head to see how he likes it. 

Though now that you think about it, you really feel bad for the darling he’s meant to have in this world. If he’s this strict over a tiny thing like a tart then there’s no telling what he’ll flip the hell out for. You’d hate to be them.

“Stop, tryna be an honor student about this Juice. She’s right, we should just kill him. We can get away with it.”

“See, Deuce. Listen to Ace, we might just get a parade for ridding the dorm of that menace.” You don’t really want to encourage them to murder, but you’re pissed and the twerp deserves it. 

“Yeah, even without my magic I’ll kick that guy’s butt so hard that he’ll regret collaring the Great Grim for the rest of his life.”

So you were all kicked out thirty minutes ago. And here you all are in the rose maze, with the music of the unbirthday party in the background. All of you had collars on your necks, and you were really pissed about this nonsense if you couldn’t tell already.

With you no longer there to be the voice of reason, because you were fuming, Deuce was trying to calm your bloodlust before you do something you might regret. 

Which you probably might, if you keep encouraging Ace to kill someone. 

You take a deep breath, or seven, before finally sighing in defeat. “Ugh. We probably shouldn’t kill anyone.”

“But-”

“We really shouldn’t kill anyone Ace.” You finally say,

Ace huffs in displeasure. “Fine. Still, who does he think HE is, the Queen of Hearts?” Ace kicks over one of the empty paint cans in his rage.

“Probably, Ace.” You tug at your shirt to give yourself more room to breathe. This stupid thing is super claustrophobic no wonder Grim hates it. 

Speaking of, “Stupid collar! It’s so tight! GRrr!” Grim fights with the collar for the umpteenth time, and you sigh.

“We should probably go see Crowley. If Riddle will listen to someone, it’ll probably be him.” You huff, things just keep going downhill-

A voice pops up from the ether. “You’re really racking up those collars. Quite the impressive collection.”

“Who-?” You jump at the sound of a new voice, scanning the hedges and rose bushes for a source-”AH!”

“BWAH?!”

It’s a head, a floating head in the middle of the garden! Seriously, who did a line of cocaine before making this world! 

“Myah! A ghost head!” Grim freaks the hell out, retreating into the safety of your arms, his fur standing up on end. 

The head tilts to the side, one of his ears twitching,  before looking down, “Oh dear. It seems I’m not all here.” He laughs as the rest of his body fades into view. Oh, it’s magic. Thank goodness. You breathe a sigh of relief. 

“What? Er, so you do have a body, then?” Deuce’s brain finally catches up to the shock he’s just seen. “Who are you?”

“The name’s Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker.” …….Wha? Forget the other names so far, did his parents have a stroke writing his name? He circles you all while starting a confusing spiel. “As for what I am….Am I a cat? Am I a purrrson? A mimsy borogrove, perhaps? A mome rath with a knack for magic?” 

Great riddles. You already had an infuriating run in with the human Riddle, now you had to deal with the non-human kind. Wonderful. “Your name is…Artem- Could you say that again please?” 

He laughs, with a cheshire smile, “People usually just call me Chenya. And let’s just say I’m not from the other side of the looking glass.” …..The hell does that mean? Is he from here? Or not? Either way, like everyone else here, he’s very weird.

“Yet another weirdo…” you mutter. You’re starting to wonder how in the hell Alice didn’t lose her mind in wonderland. 

He must’ve heard you but he doesn’t take offense, instead he gets up close and personal, stopping right before your noses touch. “You think so? I’d say by the standards here, I’m no more mad than anyone else.”

Ace pulls you away from Art- Artemi- Chenya, by your arm and asks you as Chenya the other question that was on your mind. “Uh…what dorm are you from?”

He hums a laugh. “Why don’t you try to guess?” The animal ears remind you of Savanaclaw, but he’s not dressed in any yellow. 

Grim takes the opportunity to display his intellect, “Oh, I know! He’s got animal ears, so you gotta be from….uh…Bananaclaw, was it?” No, wait a second, his uniform doesn’t even look like NRC’s. Does he even go here?

“Bzzzt! Incorrect. Bananas grow on trees, do they not? I, on the other hand, am a cat.” He reminds you of someone, just who exactly are you thinking of….

Deuce contemplates the question at hand. “And besides, other dorms have students with animal ears, too.”

Ace, on the other hand, is still pissed. “After that insanity that teapot tyrant put me through, I’m not in the mood for whatever this is. Just leave us alone.” 

His ears twitch at the mention of a tyrant. “Riddle the teapot tyrant…Heh Heh. Well, I can’t dismiss that perspective as wrong.” He knows Riddle? Wait, you never mentioned Riddle. “He’s always been quite strict.”

“How did you know we were talking about Riddle? And do you know something about him?” You ask.

Chenya doesn’t answer, giving you that ear-to-ear grin, “Perhaps there are things that I know, and perhaps there are things that I don’t.” Yay….confusing riddles.

“That’s not an answer!” Grim objects.

Still smiling and still laughing, Chenya asks “Is there something you wish to know about Riddle?”

“Yeah, what created such a control freak?”

Chenya tilts his head in thought at Ace’s question, tapping his chin with a finger. “I believe his four-eyed friend may have the answer.” Wait, Trey? Also, Riddle has friends?

“Four-eyed friend? You mean Trey?” Deuce asks.

“He’s known Riddle since we were all little boys. If you want to know more about Riddle, I would begin my quest there.” Well that was uh, helpful. But if they all have known each other, why is Riddle so uncaring to Trey? If they’re supposed to be friends, they don’t act like it. 

“They’re childhood friends? I didn’t get that impression.”

“Me neither,” You agree, “Could have fooled me, I didn’t think Riddle had any friends.”

Chenya laughs, his body starting to turn translucent“If you’re so perceptive, then what are you asking me for? Buh-bye!”

“Hey! Wait!” You try to stop him from disappearing, but Chenya only laughs before his head vanishes.

Well, that was something.

“I tell ya, no one makes any sense around here.” You nod in agreement. Nothing makes sense here.

Well, if talking to Trey will clear this whole thing up, then you need to speak with him soon. And from the sounds of music in the garden. That won’t be for a while.

“We should wait to speak with Trey, and then..”

Ace interrupts Deuce. “If you’re gonna say “Apologize to Riddle,” you can forget it!”

“I don’t think you should. Riddle’s clearly in the wrong here. But we might have some trouble speaking with Trey if he’s still in the dorm we’re kicked out of. But…”

“We might have to set up a little ambush…” Ace and Deuce don’t disagree, in fact Deuce is cracking his knuckles in preparation. 

Now all you need to do is plan and wait.

“Hello Trey.”

Your group of four hadn’t exactly figured out what to do after Chenya told you about Trey and Riddle’s childhood friendship. Being banned from Heartslabyul and then watching another unfortunate student get thrown out minutes later with a magic collar around their neck told you that going in to find him wasn’t going to end well.

It was luck that you noticed Trey's tart cookbook yesterday, and even luckier that you remembered he probably hadn’t returned it already. 

So you all staked out the library until he came back after the unbirthday party. Which Trey thankfully came alone for because you needed  him to trauma dump on Riddle’s past very hard.

“You four!” He doesn’t seem surprised to see you. This must happen a lot.

“We figured that if we waited at the library, you’d show up to return your tart cookbook eventually.” Actually you figured that part out. You just thought you’d let Deuce be the one to say it, he’s had a rough day with his honor student problem.

“We still got a problem with the way Dorm Leader Riddle is handling all of this.” Ace has more than a problem with this, considering you had to calm him down enough to even have this conversation.

Trey shakes his head in exhaustion. “Yeah, I thought you might say that.” The more you hear about this the more you think that Trey was just hoping the problem would go away on its own.

Ace thankfully gets straight to the point.“Come clean with us. What’s your take on Riddle? Is it true you’ve been pandering to him since the two of you were kids?” 

Trey recoils like he’s been struck across the face. “What?! Who told you that?”

“A Chenya popped up in the garden and explained the whole thing.” You say.

He sighs in exasperation. “Chenya…Huh. That explains it.” 

“What I don’t get is, aren’t you older than Riddle? Why haven’t ya told him off already?”

“Grim’s right. If you’re supposed to be friends then why don’t you say something. If you’re friends, he might listen to you!” Trey better have a good reason for letting this get as bad as it did. Because he probably could have stopped this way earlier if he just did as Grim said.

“I do when I need to. I don’t think the situation calls for it.”

Well, that’s a load of BS right there. “No offense Trey, but are you blind?!” You’re done being reasonable about this. He needs to hear this as it is. “He’s ruling over your dorm with an iron fist, collaring anyone that slips up even on accident, and the situation doesn’t call for it?! How can you call yourself his friend if you aren’t telling him when he’s enforcing rules like he’s a tyrant!”

Trey shakes his head and averts your eyes. If he feels ashamed then good. This could have-“Because these sorts of strict rules…They’re what created Riddle.” -been…avoided…?

“I don’t follow.” You say.

You knew that Riddle probably had some serious trauma to make him the way he is, but as you were expecting he did.

As Trey was kind enough to inform you, Riddle’s mother was one of those mom’s who pushed her legacy onto her kids, and wouldn’t give them an inch unless they met her incredibly and unfairly high standards. 

A childhood scheduled down to the last possible second sounded awful, and because kids are biologically inclined to care for their parents, Riddle did as was expected of him. But to have no freedom of choice your entire life, because of your mother’s rules, no wonder he followed rules so strictly, it was all he ever knew.

But still he had to rebel at least once, find fun in something outside the heavy rules that constricted around his life, after all he was no perfect child, he was only human.

“I can’t even imagine how hard he must’ve had it.”

“That…” It’s horrible that his mother messed him up that bad, but it isn’t just her fault anymore…Now Riddle’s, as he’s now being his own worst enemy and he’s not even aware of it. And even worse, the most unfortunate part of this was that this horrible childhood gave you the upside that at the very least this was proof that even with this society’s ridiculous laws and beliefs, life wasn’t perfect. And to be honest, to you that doesn’t sound like a victory. “That sounds horrible.”

Trey nods, “Riddle sees the enforcement of strict rules as a service to his dorm members. In his eyes, being bound by rigid guidelines by fear- is a fast track to personal growth.”

“But he has to know that’s not the same for everyone,” You point out, “either you make them ‘better’ or you teach them to break the rules without anyone noticing.” You’re not an expert on this, but you’re pretty sure this won’t end the way Riddle wants it to, which adds an extra edge of sadness to this downward spiral Riddle’s unknowingly put himself in.

Trey shakes his head, and he keeps talking even though he sounds so pained,“He might but, it was that strictness was what worked for him. And on the flip side, he sees the violation of those rules as an inexcusable offense.”

“I guess that makes sense, since rules made him who he is.” At least Ace is able to understand that Riddle’s situation sounds terrible to grow up in. 

“Look, I totally get why you see Riddle as a tyrant, and why you disapprove of his methods. But for me…I can’t hold that against him, you know?” Trey may be right in thinking Riddle is a delicate situation to handle, as no one would like being told their childhood was emotionally abusive and they didn’t notice, but that doesn’t make this okay.

Being oppressive over people that don’t share your ideals isn’t okay no matter what childhood you have.

“Myah…”

“So that’s why he’s like that.”

Deuce and Grim might not have been able to pick up on what you have, but this isn’t a reason for Riddle’s madness. 

It’s an excuse for why Trey hasn’t done anything.

“All right, now I get it.” Ace says finally. “It’s YOUR fault Riddle’s like this.” So he understands it the same way you do.

“What?!”

“I agree with Ace. This IS your fault, Trey. Sure, he had a hard childhood. But you’ve known that what his mother did to him was wrong and you let him repeat it, because you’re too afraid to stop him.”

“_____’s right. You’re going easy on him because he had it rough as a kid? Don’t you see where that’s leading? You’re letting him make a pariah out of himself!”

Deuce tries to shut Ace up before he offends their upperclassman, “Ace, man, come on…”

But Ace ignores him. “So why don’t you say something? Are you just afraid you’ll ‘lose your head’ too? That’s pathetic! You guys are supposed to be childhood friends?! Then act like it-”

“YOU THERE! BE QUIET! YOU ARE IN A LIBRARY!!!” 

Headmaster Crowley comes out of nowhere and  takes you completely by surprise, as it echoes throughout the library.

“But you’re yellin’ louder ‘n any of us, though!” Grim points out exasperated.

“Oh!” He clears his voice before hushing into a whisper, “Yes, my apologies. But let us strive to maintain the library as a quiet place for reading.”

“What are you doing here, Headmaster?” You ask.

“I’m researching methods to send you back home. Precisely as I promised I would.” 

That gets your attention! “Did you find anything?!” You say hopeful, if he has then that’s one step closer to you returning home. You’ll accept any news, even horrific news!

Crowley hesitates for far too long. “Uh, No, unfortunately…But I am gracious! And the library is, of course, an ideal place for serious research.”

“Aw.” Your mood deflates like a balloon. Ah, well at least he’s trying.

“It’s not as if I came here just to secure the newest book in that popular series of novels. No, certainly not.” Wait, what did he say?

“Wait, what-”

He clears his throat and brushes you off, “Incidentally, what are you all discussing with such grim faces?”

“Wait a second. What were you not actually-”

“Now I understand, you are resistant to the idea of apologizing, but unable to devise any other method to get the dorm leader to remove the collar.”

“Yeah, that’s pretty much it.”

“I see, If you and the dorm leader are truly unable to reconcile, you could always transfer. However, this is the dorm that the Dark Mirror chose for you based on the essence of your being. Any attempt to relocate would necessitate quite a burdensome process, as well as a new ritual.” Of course, they are strings attached to this nonsense. You might as well just let Ace move in, which you really don’t want to do with what happened this morning.

And Ace is stubborn, so transferring is the equivalent of saying Riddle’s right and that means that transferring is not happening.

After some thought, Crowley finally responds. “Hmm. Then it sounds like you should challenge Mr. Rosehearts for leadership of the dorm.”

“WHAAAAAT?!” That’s a thing?! Even Trey is surprised for shit’s sake and he’s a third year! Does Crowley just withhold information for the fun of it, because seriously he just refuses to tell people things just to make a joke later?!

“Lower your voices! This is a library!” Crowley whisper-yells.

“But what you said was…insane?” Ace whisper-yells in complete disbelief. But to be honest, Whatever He’s said much more insane things to you….You probably wouldn’t have noticed if Crowley hadn’t spelled it out for you. Maybe this will lead to a solution somehow?

“There is nothing remotely ‘insane’ about it. After all, that’s how Mr. Rosehearts got the position.” Wait, how did Trey not- nevermind.

So dorm leaders can either be named by the predecessor or duel for the position. Well, this could be worse. If Riddle became housewarden within a week it could be possible for Ace or Deuce to do it. 

Plus, it would get the collars of them before the duel because they need their magic to- Wait. 

“But if you fight Riddle, then-”

“So what do you say, Mr. Trappola? Will you challenge Mr. Rosehearts?”

“But wait, if you fight Riddle-”

“Sure, I’ll give it a shot!” 

“Ace, if you duel Riddle then he’ll-”

“Then I will too!”

“Me three!”

“I’m afraid not, Mr. Grim. You cannot challenge a dorm leader of a dorm to which you do not belong.”

“Myah?! Then how’m I supposed to get this buzzkill collar off?!”

“About that, if-”

“If I become dorm leader, I’ll just order Riddle to remove it! Easy-peasy!” 

“But I don’t think you’ll w-”

Some musing on the Wanderer!Branch AU

(Okay, bit of a chaotic lore dump incoming, as this is probably the first time I am putting it to words)

Okay, important info first:

I headcanon it that Branch- and thus the other Brozone bros- are half-pop half-rock in their herritage; this headcanon is an old one, ever since World Tour dropped, and honestly only supported by the fact that Total Eclipse of the Heart that Branch sung as trolling is considered a Pop Rock song XD But hey, one doesnt need to have many reasons to make headcanons pff

(I have some tentative lore about his parents- and his grandparents- too, and how that would effect Branch and his Bros growing up, but I will leave that for a separated post)

But anyway, with Branch's Pop side being moderated by his Rock side, he would have always felt a bit out of place among his tribe, even he grew up perfectly happy with no tragedy in his life (I know switching Branch's and Poppy's place when it comes to being grey is all the rage right now, but I still feel most are missing all the necessary nuance to really make it work, but lets not get into that pf)

Obviously, that feeling of not fitting it only got hundred fold worse since his PTSD and him being grey, as Pop Trolls doesn't seem to be known for mental health support. Branch eventually leaving is not him going 'Screw you all, I will find someone who appreciates me' (much like Clay did) but more of a 'I am sorry, I won't get in your way anymore, I wont be a burden'

Basically massive amount of self-loathing and severe lack of self-worth. When Branch had his final breakdown and decided to leave, I don't think it would be with the precise goal of finding anyone (yes, part of him hopes he would be able to find his brothers and at least find closure one way or another, no matter how much it terrifies him).

Honestly, Branch probably didn't dare to examine his decision to leave any closely than he needed to, lest it would stand out to him for what it really was- a suicide trip.

This was Branch that doesnt know anything about the wide, outside world; he knows Bergen Town, knows of the old Troll Tree, and now knows the Forest and their Troll Village. But everything else is uncharted territory for him. He knows of the Neverglades, because of a faint memory of John Dory constantly talking about them when he was a baby, but has only a vague sense which way they are (I headcanon they make up for the border of Pop and Rock territories)

His preparation for the trip was abysmal, and so was his plan in general. He just picked a direction- opposite of Bergen Town, away from them- and started walking. When he first encountered the towering high peaks of Classical Territory, he immediatelly recognized that they can't be the Neverglades- very much not fitting the description that he remembered, so he walked past/around them, smack dab into Country territory.

Compared to others, I don't think the Country Trolls would have been very welcoming to him at the beginning; used to hard life, inhospitable land and abundant death, Branch would be an unexpected disturbance; obviously not a Classical Troll, who borders with them the closest but never comes down from the skies, obviously not a Funk Troll, who with their technological advance might as well be myths at this point- and obviously not a Pop Troll, since he doesnt shower them with obnoxious music and doesnt even look the part.

Had he been at his 100%, they would have probably been quite content to send him packing, figuring he was just a Rock Troll going solo career (little insert headcanon: Rock Troll Rite of Passage is going on a Rock Tour, and sometimes the more adventurous Rock Trolls strays into other territories to bother and cause mayhem other trolls. Barb's Rock Tour was her Rite of Passage, and being a freshly fanged Queen, she took it to another level)

But Branch quite helpfully collapsed on their doorstep, half starving and dehydrated, and they weren't so callous as to leave him there for the elements to take care of him.

Naturally, their help hardly came for free, and even if they didn't ask, Branch would have already feel indebted to them for wasting resources on his wellbeing. A Survivalist himself, he easily spotted the tight budget they were running, and felt guilty for being a burden yet again.

To his surprise, when the country trolls found out he was a hard worker, a skilled architect and wiz engineer, they completely turned their wariness around.

It was the start of his 'finding himself' journey, but for the first time, Branch started to feel... appreciated. Yes, these trolls didn't know him- but they looked at him, looked at what he can do, and called him accomplished; they were praising his skills, and called him valuable.

(But some sense of danger remained with him; as far as he believed, 'Branch' was left behind to rot away in his bunker. So when introducing himself, and habit got better of him, he started with "Bra-" but caught himself and finished "-mble"; and that new name, 'Bramble', stuck XD Still a plant name, still close enough that he can learn to repond to it- and honestly, feels like fits him better right now, as he feel all out of sorts)

It was only the first step, maybe, but it was a step toward feeling that he had some worth.

I think, out of all the Tribes, he stays with the Country trolls for the longest; yes, the life there is hard, but that is perhaps why he feels most welcomed there. There are no useless nonsense parties, no senseless dancing- the times when they can finaly wipe their brow and relax is when the community gathers together and they just... talk. Sit around, share food, look at the stars and reminiscence.

It's all very subdued, and even though Branch is the most obvious outsider ever, he feels like one with the community, and that by itself is already healing a deep wound he didnt know he had.

When the country trolls finally start singing on their good day, Branch is rather taken aback (He forgot, that Trolls are Trolls, and Trolls sing)- but the sombre and slow melody and topic of the country speaks to him, and while he doesnt join- and they dont push him to join- he listens, and he appreicates.

It is with Country Trolls that he heals most of his trauma when it comes to music. His Grandma and his Brothers leaving him are still a big guilt that weights him down- and something he wont address for a long time- but Country trolls shows him that music can be wildly different. He still doesnt sing, but when offered to be taught to play a banjo (XD), he probably doesnt refuse- mainly out of fear of insult, but also because for the first time in his life, he wants to actually try.

As time passes, his more curious side comes out- he asks questions, wants to know everything- up to this point, he didn't even know that the Country trolls were country- and to them it was obvious what they were, so why would they need to introduce themselves?

That line of questioning leads to the explanation of the other Tribes existing, and that each Tribes' music is different.

And for the first time in his life, Branch felt something alien to him- burning Wanderlust. (Bit of his Rock herritage showing, eh? Solo Rock tour, Rite of Passage~?) The thirst for knowledge was always there- after all, his bunker had many journals filled to brim with information about what he discovered in the foods, helpful tips for survival and many plans for inventions- but those were always done out of necessity, discovered and noted down so that he could live another say. Never before he had a desire to discover simply for the sake of discovering.

Never before he also actually felt like he had the option to do so; the world has always been an inhospitable wilderness to him, only filled with a small handful of trolls and a town full of monstrous giants. His childhood was filled with memory of a large iron cage, and that trapped feeling didn't change; after all, his Bunker, for all that it offered him safety, was a different type of cage too. The whole Troll Village- Pop Village, as he learned now- was another cage as well. Gilded one, made of ignorance.

And so he knew his time with the country trolls came to an end- and it was because he grew to respect them and appreciate them, that he doesnt disappear in the nigh and haltingly tells them his decision to leave and explore.

Memories of his Brothers' argument echo through his mind as he waits for the inevitable blow up, but.... he is once again surprised when the trolls just accepts this decision and wish him all the best- going as far as to help him pack- properly this time- and wheedling out of him a promise to check in once in a while, whenever he is in the neighbourhood.

Equipped with a non outdated map, he decides to make visit all the other territories one by one, starting from Country and heading right towards Classical, going around in one large circle around Pop Territory- Going to Techno after Classical, and to Rock right after that. Funk is largely a mystery to him- the Country trolls are at this point content to believe they are just a myth- much the same way a unicorn is to us- but Branch wants to keep an open mind.

After all, he himself had no idea other kind of trolls existed, so why dismiss the Funk Troll existence right away?

His travels to Symphonyville proved to be as challenging as was the start of his trip towards Country territory. Being high in the mountains- higher than anywhere Branch ever went- really showed him that walking is easy only when the road is straight and flat.

The air growing colder and thinning, he probably doesn't make the best first impression neither- especially in his dishevelled state, he is once more mistaken for a Rock Troll, and it takes a gargantuan amount of effort to convince anyone that he is simply there to learn music, and not cause any trouble.

Out of all the Tribes, he would stay with the Classical trolls the shortest. They are strict teachers, and their culture is very frigid and traditional- and Branch knows that he would have to wildly change himself to fit among them. Yet looking around, seeing the tall spires of the buildings around him, he finds he doesn't really want to. The grandiose of everything is rather intimidating- but even if he tried his best, he would never fit well among the classical trolls, always limited by something (like his ability to fly)

And realizes that was okay. That was acceptable. And that the classical trolls knew he wasn't a good fit now, and would hardly ever be a good fit ever- but they never expected him to become someone he is not. He asked them to teach him and so teach him they will- but you cant force a white sheep to grow black wool anymore that you can force a black sheep grow white.

The moment they realize Branch is there to learn and not wreck their peace like wandering Rock Trolls tend to do, they definitelly warm up to him more- but it still with the mildest of disapprovals since compared to them, Branch looks like a scrunkly kitten and all of them are just itching to groom him properly XD

Branch himself is amazed at the variety of musical instruments that exists and very quickly finds that he is not a progidy in plaing them all pff. Wind musical instruments are most likely completely beyond him, and after some attempts gives them up for a lost cause. Percussion fairs a bit better; he definitelly has some idea how to keep a beat and a rhythm, but even there he finds playing piano the most comfortable out of them all, with drums being a close second.

It is with string instruments that he trully shines, especially those that he can play with his own hands, without the need to use a pick or a bow; a tentative hint at his connection to music, the vibrations just send shivers down his spine and makes him feel more close to the sound his playing produces. (Guitar and Harp becoming his favourite instruments from the get go).

Getting to Techno was trickier. Them living underwater makes access to their territory rather impossible- unless Branch happens to meet someone willing to cross then bridge between Land and Sea XD

It makes for a rather convenient introduction for minor genres; the land bordering Classical and Rock seems to be as the perfect land for various minor tribes to cohabit in peace.

Are there Techno Opera trolls? Siren like beings, that found their homes on the deck of boats, sailing from and to an island after island? Techno Classical that built their living on the coast line, wanting to be close to both land and sea?

In any case, Branch discovers that even with music it's not so simple as shelving it into labels, and that it is ever growing, ever evolving. He never manages to actually visit Techno Reef, but he doesnt' need to; compared to other trolls, the Techno Trolls are not insular, and quite happily come to the surface or to the coast, both to vibe with the offshoots of their genre, to discover what they came up with, but also to simply make friends and have fun.

It was the first time Branch encountered a large party not unsimilar to that of a Pop Troll one- and yet for all that the party was just as loud and wild as he was used to seeing, the sight of it didnt really fill him with uncontrollable panic. It definitelly helped it was once again more about the music and the beat itself, and about the mood of the partygoers than it was about the singing; it was about experimentation and trying out new things- and yet not every troll was dancing around like maniacs. They had the stage for sure, and large crowd was gathering there- but there were also the fringe areas and corners, where Trolls just sat and chatted and bopped to the beat. Not forced to do anything they didn't want to, simply allowed to have fun in their own way.

He doesnt really interacts with the Techno Trolls that much, beyond when there is a party happening on the surface. Gravitates more towards exploring the Minor Territory, and discovering that it holds more than just Techno Classical/Opera. Not wanting to stray too close to the border with Pop, he nevertheless encounters encounters various offshoots of Pop as well- and the K-Pop gang as well

This definitelly allows him to learnt that even the Trolls Kingdom are not free of corruption and the bounty hunters are not starving for contracts- crime does happen in the troll kingdoms, and when the local police force comes short, the bounty hunters are the next best thing to employ.

Speaking with the K-Pop gang, he learns- with a bit of unease- that there was an old contract unfulfilled, that searched for all the Brozone Brothers, and thanked his lucky stars he can in no way be connected to them. It was considered a cold one, where there was no hope among the communities of it ever being cashed in- but the knowledge someone was looking for them- specifically for the younger of the brothers (Him, Floyd and Clay) made him wonder who could it be.

(Part of him entertained that it could be John Dory)

(Other part dismissed it right away. After all, JD did specifically state 'Goodbye Forever'- why would he make the effort to employ bounty hunters to find three of his brothers, if he was even alive to do so?)

That meetings seems to set of a string of bad luck- at least, that's how he feels. Continuing down to Rock territory- of which he is most wary (after all, he was constantly being confused for one, and expected to cause mayhem and destruction- so what kind of Trolls Rock Trolls were to earn that reputation?

A very specific kind- wild and chaotic.

Compared to other Territories, no-one blinks when he just walks in and continues deeper into the Kingdom; and he can finally see why he was mistaken for a Rock Troll. Muted colours, sharp smiles and even sharper claws, it was like walking into uncanny valley, where nearly every troll wears his face. At that point, unknown to him, his colours are not completely grey and black, so he is sporting some faint hues, and very quickly learns that thanks to the direction he came from, Rock Trolls think he is from an Offshoot genre; either Punk Rock or Pop Rock (though they obviously hope for the former) They reconsider him to Folk Rock when he brings out softer tunes that he plays on a borrowed guitar; and for the first time in a while, Branch is asked to sing.

He panics, obviously- playing musical instrument is one thing, but getting over his trauma from singing is another- and quite swiftly and bluntly refuses, cringing after to wait for the inevitable "You are a Troll, why don't you sing?"

Only... it never comes. There are shrugs, and one "Cool." and then he just gets invited to an Indie Rock show, and that is that.

Completely baffled at this easy acceptance, Branch agrees out of shock, before he can trully think it through- and realizes it's the first time since he left Pop Village (at this point probably nearly two years ago) that he thinks back on its inhabitants and namely Poppy.

He feels rather guilty, for taking this long to really give them a concrete thought. Like yes, he did think of them at the beginning, when he lived with the Country trolls- but that was only in general way, comparing the different livestyles. He never really chose to think about the people he left behind.

Now, no longer blinded with grief, self-loathing and rampart paranoia, he does remember that not all adults in his life went out of their way to activelly fail him. King Peppy, for all that he was unequipped to deal with Branch's issues, tried to check up on him regularly; his Grandmother's friends or those who knew her, made it their goal to be kind, even if Branch tried to avoid them out of reminder what he caused

Hype, Trickie, Boom and Ablaze were old friends- his childhood friends- the ones he made after his brothers left, and the ones he pushed away after he went grey- and yet they still managed to be around, noticing them from a distance, even as he stopped speaking to them.

And then there was, of course, Poppy.

Just starting to mature when he left, it's not quite a crush that he feels for her (not yet anyway), but there is still some sort of appreciation for her- some part of him, that subconsciously aches at the need to be close to her, and feeling just that bit of her warmth and positivity- one that made him wistfully keep all her invitations and listen to the sound of her recorded voice.

For the first time, he wonders how they reacted to his disappearence. Wonders if they miss him- or if they curse him. If they do both- like he felt conflicted towards his brothers, the older he got and the more obvious it became that they are not coming back.

It was that thought- the comparison to his brothers- that pushed him to hesitantly think about returning back to Pop Village; to his bunker, to his old life- to Poppy.

It was a tentative thought really; truthfully, the desire was a half hearted spur of the moment, and not something he would drop everything for. He didn't miss his old life; where he was the village hermit, the outcast, the weird one. Besides, he just arrived in Rock, and he still had a whole adventure ahead of him, trying to find the Funk trolls.

And so, When in Rome, do as the Romans do- and so Branch steeled himself to attend a party, one that he was specifically invited to; after all, he had been at parties before now, within the reach of Techno Reef, it's not like this one is any different

Only it kind of felt like it- yes, the music was harsher, the beat went harder- but the harmonizing of voices reminded him so close of his own tribe that it just left him feeling jittery- and at first, yes, the party made him tense and hardly participate, but as it went on, song after song, he could feel himself slowly relax.

(Besides, there was something about rock music, that send warmth straight to the core of his being; something about it resonated with him more than any other music did, besides Pop- and where before he fought hard to not allow it to do that, perhaps, just this time, he could try the opposite)

(After all, they were underground, where Branch always felt the safest, and the Bergens had no idea other tribes even existed- he could indulge a little)

Of course, fate has a funny way of entertaining itself, and in the second of his indecisiveness, he gets bumped into and trips and falls- or he would, if pair of hands didn't steady him, and familiar voice asked him if he was okay

And Branch suddenly felt altogether three years old, getting fed empty promise and watching his older brother disappear through the entry to his Grandma's pod

And he is now in present, left staring at nearly 15 years older Floyd, his brother clearly living the best life, happily away from Pop Territory (away from Branch)

His name drops from his lips before Branch can stop himself, and that has Floy pause and squint at him- obviously not recognizing him, obviously trying to place him- before something clicks and his eyes widen and he goes pale

Branch most likely punches him- and then finds he cant stop heaving in fury and goes punch him again, not allowing Floyd a word in (honestly, he is not punching very hard, not apart from that first one)

Of course, Floyd is hardly alone, probably in a band, and his band mates are not keen on having their member be attacked by a random troll

Brawl very easily breaks out- honestly nothing new among the Rock Trolls- and ends up with all of them, especially Branch, thrown in a cell for their troubles, much to the protest of Floyd's bandmates, who curses and claims innocence

For the first time in forever, Branch feels hollowed out; yes, he had been hoping for a closure- but honestly, he had expected to find all of his brothers dead; not finding any of them living happily away, their youngest brother not even a blip of concern in their mind.

He certainly never expected it from Floyd, who essentially lived a stone throw away; who clearly was able to cross the distance it took from Bergen town to arrive in Rock troll's territory, just shy away from the Pop one.

Obviously there are more things to add; Barb would make appearance, not yet as a Queen but definitelly in charge of keeping any Rock Trolls in line (she is not called a Princess because the Rock Trolls don't use that title for their heirs) and while Floyd is aware she is the future Queen, that information doesnt get shared)

The discovery of Funk Trolls still awaits as well, as does Branch's return to Lonesome Flats, as he had promised to do

Dazai

He sees his own misery inside of you, which he thinks is romantic. He thinks its beautiful that the two of you can understand each other's suffering in a way no one else can.

I don't think I need to state that while this is romantic in a literary sense, it's a major red flag

Dude would 100% want to do things that he thinks are "romantic" for couples to do together.

For example - murder-suicide, robbing stores together, double-suicide, arson, planning each other's funerals-

Man has a sick sense of romance and death

But he can be romantic!! Sometimes.

Despite being young he knows how to actually take care of his lover - at least in technicality

What he really enjoys, however, he has to suppress

That cold cold sick heart of his wants to isolate them, keep them away from everyone - but he knows that isn't really a human thing to do

So the type of lover he really is the kind of guy who can really only bond over either sex or when you're drunk/sad over the past

dude wouldn't even be able to have sex without crying or would have to do it in the dark, like he just gets too emotional and insecure

First, the ranking based on the anime only:

1) Toji--> I know he's not part of the yanderes but hear me out THIS HOMELESS GROWN-ASS MAN HAS BEEN HAUNTING MY DREAMS, MY DAYS AND MY NIGHTS FOR ALMOST A YEAR, THIS IS NOT FUNNY ANYMOOOOOORE 😰.

2) Suguru--> Me trying my best not to cry seeing my all time favs not being included 🥲. Joke aside, really liked the fact he wanted to "mercy kill" Mizu cause he knew what it was like to be Satoru's prey. Really heartbreaking, my poor babies.

3) Choso--> Well... my type is hard working, muddy guy 😅. Finally we enter the yandere grounds 🥳. Fun Fact: Absolute first jjk man who stole my heart, seeing only 2min of him in season one.

4) Sukuna--> Me looking at my RoR Ranking with Shiva on top 👀💧. What can I say... Four-Armed Men=Best kind of Men, certified Monster-Lover here.

5) Yuuta--> My sweet cutie babyyyy 😭😭 made me scream when we saw him at the end of season 2 with his big ass weirdo eyes...

7) Megumi/Yuuji--> I love them as characters, really, but the ranking is mostly based on the HoRnY... they're adorable, but... not in a sexy kinda way?

8) Kashimo--> To be honest, like every character introduced during the Culling Games (the only exception being Gigami Chadguruma) , this one absolutely never impacted me in any kind of way. I'm utterly neutral about him. Nice buns tho.

That being said... oh boy, time for the Tsunami ranking!

(1) Megumi/Yuuji--> Look at my bois, how sweet they are😭. They climb at the top because I just reaally loved their interactions with Hime. They have yet to disappoint me, and I just feel they would treat her the "best" out of all the suitors. I could be wrong tho. Also the way you write Megumi😳, it made me realise the potential of HoRnY- Was wishing he would fu** her in front of Yuuta's camera-

(2) Sukuna--> I stayed up all night just to read your Shisui flashback. It may be my favorite segment of your story, how talented can you be? Ryomen Sukuna... he is the one who has the most reason to be obsessed with Mizuhime, he helps her with exorcism when Gojo puts her down, he has four arms 🤤... He could have been my favorite but to be honest, I feel like his ending would be the absolute worst for Mizuhime (being the King of Curses, the final antagonist etc...). And I just love her so very much, she needs at least one good ending 😭

(3) Choso--> Ok hear me out- I know I may be biased, we hadn't really seen him yet, but it seems he would be kinda like Yuuji. I think he could treat her well. And he's just so clueless, how cute🥺. I makes me wonder: would he be aware of Yuuji's love for Mizuhime? If so, would he try to be a good "big bro" and support his little brother, or would he be selfish and try to keep her for himself? (I think I already know the answer-)

(4) Satoru--> Like someone famous said: "Certified LoverBoy, Certified Ped******"! Maaaan, no wonder Hime wants him to stay in his box, he's so nasty🤣. Gross, disgusting, pathetic, obsessed, overpowered, terrifying... He's the worst, but he's so funny to read at the same time. Let's not even talk about his Heian counterpart... As I said, I never was a big fan of this character, but with all the Jjk fic I read, I can say your portrayal of Gojo is my favorite in all the FanficVerse. It may be the same with other characters, but especially for him. How dreadful, to be the object of obsession of the Strongest in the World... He is still at the bottom tho, we don't need this creep around Hime ever again.

(5) Kashimo--> I have no expectation with this one, as I've said earlier. The electricity power seems interesting, but honestly write him however you want. Seeing your blog he seems like a little shit too.

(6) YuUtA🤬--> Well... if you paid attention in the Pjo/RoR ranking, you already know where this is going. Don't you wonder, what's the point of the dual rankings anyway? I use this to compare how high can a character climb (Megumi/Yuuji, Loki) and how low can he fall. And man, HOW LOW DID YUUTA FALL. It breaks my heart because during the first part I was the biggest YuutaHime apologist. He has seen her fucked up family, he bought her books, plushies, he was sweeeet 😭... If he was a yandere "on his own", maybe I could have let it slide, but how can you go from "Damn Hime your relatives are a bunch of creepy weirdos" to "No u can't unfiance me uwu cause I'm ✨️Daddy's Special Boy in Law✨️" Do you know what happens when you do shit like that? I know this is a silly question about fictional media: but I wanna know WHY people think fighting the avatar is a good idea and WHY they think they can even take them??? Not just villains or the big bad, I mean like regular people and NPCs.

for reference, I just started season 3 of tlok, so there will be some spoilers there (but don’t spoil me for seasons 3 & 4 please ;0;). This is also gets pretty ranty fair warning.

like with Aang it wasn’t really a problem. Cause for a while no one knew what he looked like. Then, he wore a lot of disguises, so they didn’t recognize him. Then if they did recognize him, they were usually on his side because everyone was against the Fire Nation. And if they did recognize him and were against him, they thought he was weak because he was a kid, which is a foolish assumption, but I will admit it makes sense! Aang doesn’t really give off threatening vibes. Except for when he goes into the Avatar State, and at that point I don’t see anyone thinking they can take him. They’re all terrified of him when he’s in the Avatar State. The only thing they’re doing is fighting for their lives.

but with KORRA, EVERYONE knows she’s the avatar because of her time’s modern technology. She doesn’t hide it either. She’s loud and proud. Everyone’s gotten comfortable cause wartime is over, so accordingly she has a lot of haters for no reason.

So, accordingly, they try to defy her and what she stands for. But like, historically, the Avatar has ALWAYS been regarded as a hero. Maybe not to some specific people who they offended because the Avatar is not perfect, but ultimately they have a record of fulfilling their duty of being the people’s hero. Historically, the Avatar is always in the right, and if not, they switch up real fast. Historically, the Avatar is the harbinger of light. Historically, anyone who opposes the Avatar is eventually crushed by the heroic and righteous choice being made. So if you recognize you’re opposing THE. AVATAR. your first thought should be: “Am I corrupt? I’m opposing the world’s most consistent and renowned hero of light. If I’m up against them, and they haven’t changed their mind yet, am I in the wrong? And will I have to face the wrath of the Avatar?” And if that’s not your first thought: natural selection, buddy.

And then, there’s not only tons of people trying to defy and undermine Korra, THE AVATAR, but there’s also tons of people just straight up trying to fight her! Korra!! THE AVATAR. They know she’s the Avatar, and they know all her epic feats, and they know she’s faced threats WAYYYY larger than them and WON, and they know she’s saved the world and THEIR LIVES (or at the VERY least, their lives as they know it) on multiple occasions. And it’s not that she looks nonthreatening, CAUSE SHE DOESN’T. Unlike Aang, Korra isn’t a harmless-looking pacifist child. She’s a 5’7 HEAVILY BUILT FULL OF RAGE WOMAN EXUDING THE MOST THREATENING ENERGY KNOWN TO MAN. But APPARENTLY, that threatening energy means NOTHING cause these ONE-OFF CHARACTERS think they can take HER. SHE COULD TAKE THEM BARE HANDED??? SHE COULD TAKE THEM BARE HANDED BUT DID I MENTION SHE’S THE AVATAR AND SHE CAN ALSO BEND ALL FOUR ELEMENTS TO BOOT? AND SHE’S REALLY GOOD AT IT CAUSE SHE’S ANNIHILATED MULTIPLE THREATS??? PLEASE. WHAT MAKES YOU SO CONFIDENT, WHAT MAKES YOU SO UTTERLY DELUSIONAL, THAT YOU THINK YOU CAN TAKE THE AVATAR IN A FIGHT, MUCH LESS DEFEAT HER?

I personally think this boneheaded-ness of the characters only really makes sense for the first season because Korra is new to the outside world and this is her first time really doing any Avatar stuff. No one met her yet to really get to know her, and they all knew she was a green leaf. Plus, Amon really COULD take her. Bro could bloodbend with his mind anytime he wanted. AND he could take away bending. And he was mysterious, so they couldn’t like immediately track him. Plus, Amon obviously had a greatly disturbed mind, so him thinking he could defy and fight against the Avatar and WIN made sense.

I’M TALKING ABOUT CHARACTERS LIKE THAT PRESIDENT. I understand it’s like supposed to be the world vs Korra or something, but if characters like the President are supposed to be mentally well-balanced people who are trying to do good, they’re just on the wrong side of the fight, I’M SORRY, BUT IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR THEM TO BE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE FIGHT. Maybe at first they’d be reluctant to trust Korra, right, like she may be the Avatar, but what if she’s been manipulated to be evil or something? But after proving herself to be the great and righteous Avatar that she is, IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR ANYONE MENTALLY WELL-BALANCED, TRYING TO DO GOOD, AND SPECIFICALLY FOR THE PRESIDENT: SMART LIKE A PRESIDENT SHOULD BE TO THINK THEY CAN IGNORE THE AVATAR AND EVERYTHING BE OK.

It’s really getting repetitive and annoying, and I don’t want to be judging something before I’ve finished watching it because tlok has been really entertaining and fun to watch, but these plot lines man, I’m sick of them. and I LOVE watching MIRACULOUS LADYBUG so you know something’s up 😭😭😭

Though I haven’t finished it yet and can’t absolutely positively be sure, I simply just do not believe that the boneheadedness of the characters is intentional. I really feel like that part is a writing flaw, and even if it’s not, it is making the show a bit hard to watch man.

I really want to go into the character motivations for each character in Chapter 5 of the Amnesia Branch AU. So I am going to go in depth. Characters are in no particular order. (Readmore, because this is so very long).

Poppy- Hers is the most obvious. Mostly, because we see the entire chapter through her POV. She wants to be there for Branch. More importantly, she wants to help Branch in ways that she couldn't the last time he was gray. Now, she has such a deeper understanding of why he is the way he is, and what he needs.

While she is doing her best to be there for Branch, she herself is struggling immensely. She's heartbroken that Branch doesn't remember their relationship. That he's closed off from her again.

She doesn't really let anyone know how much she's struggling. Sure, Viva and her closest friends saw that she was sad in Chapter 3, but they didn't see depths of her sadness. And she tries so hard to keep it together this entire chapter.

She pushes away every single negative thought and emotion that comes up. Forcing herself to be the happy and cheerful despite how she truly feels.

That is until the very end. Branch has broken up with her. Every single bit of sadness that Poppy had been holding back comes crashing down on her.

Branch's Brothers- As a base, all of them of in pure shock of what they just witnessed. Up to this point, they have only heard stories of what Branch used to be like. Seeing Branch gray for themselves was eye-opening.

Bruce- I think, because he is a father, he really carries a lot of guilt about Branch becoming depressed at such a young age and having to raise himself. He constantly has thoughts about how different Branch's life would have been if he came back in time.

And because of this guilt, he is terrified of ever hurting Branch ever again. So when Branch broke down after Bruce said the very wrong thing, it sent Bruce into a spiral of guilt. The guilt and terror combined caused him to believe that Branch is genuinely better off without any of them.

In his mind, Branch has Poppy and loads of friends to support him. People who haven't hurt Branch like they have. Who won't stir up tears as soon as he sees them. Who can help him far better than Bruce ever could.

Clay- Now, Clay did not talk that much in this chapter. Like Bruce, his guilt made him think that Branch doesn't need him. Though his guilt is a bit different than Bruce's. Unlike all the others, Clay stayed in the Troll Tree up until the time of the escape. The fact that he could have gone back anytime to check-up on Branch but didn't, haunts him.

While his "the Putt Putt trolls needed me" comment wasn't immediately addressed by Branch, it was what Branch was referring to when he shouted "I needed you!".

He wasn't as eager to leave as Bruce was. In fact, if Bruce hadn't said that he didn't think they should be there for Branch, I think he would have stayed or at least waited to say what he thought until later.

John Dory- The guilt manifests differently for John Dory. He has come to terms with it. In fact, he came to terms with a lot of it before the events of TBT. When he came back to the Troll Tree and saw it completely barren, he thought that all his brothers had died. The worst of it for him was Branch.

In his mind, Branch was still a baby, and when John Dory returned he still would have been a young child. While there was a chance that the others got out, which he learned when Bruce sent that postcard, he didn't have the same hopes for Branch.

His brothers were athletic teenagers. The odds of them surviving was high. But Branch was a little kid who lived alone with an old woman in a town of giants who want to eat them. They'd probably be first

And John Dory carried this guilt for years upon years. Until, he heard about what happened with the Rockapocalypse. He was so relieved to hear that Branch survived. But then more guilt set in.

Guilt that he didn't know. Branch is in his twenties now. He missed out on his baby brother's entire life. In his mind, Branch clearly turned out fine without him if he stopped the literal apocalypse, and he didn't want to ruin that for him.

It wasn't until he had to save Floyd, that he decided to initiate any sort of contact.

He genuinely enjoyed having Branch around again. But for most of the movie, he still believed that Branch is far better off without him. That all the brothers being apart was better.

It wasn't until the fight in Rhonda that he realized he might be wrong. That was the first time he truly saw how much leaving had hurt Branch, and how his life might not have been as great as he thought it was.

He doesn't want to hurt Branch like that ever again. After the whole reunion leaving didn't even cross his mind as an option. He's going to be there for Branch whether Branch wants him to or not.

Floyd- Similar to John Dory, Floyd did come eventually come back. Seeing the dead Troll Tree was completely devastating to him. He went gray over it.

The memory of him promising Branch that he would be back kept replaying over and over in his mind. He agonized over and over again about how he failed to keep his promise. He never came back. Branch died waiting for him.

Unlike John Dory, he didn't hear about how Branch was still alive nor did he know if any of his other brothers were alive either. It wasn't until John Dory came to save him that had any hope of Branch still being alive.

And the joy and relief he felt when he finally saw Branch was unlike anything else. In that brief moment, he swore that if he survived that he was never going to leave Branch again. This time he intends to keep that promise.

Branch- The reunion with his brothers severely messed him up. It really reignited his abandonment issues. He truly believed that they wouldn't stay. That they'd leave him again, so him pushing them away was to spare himself the heartbreak of getting close to them again just for them to leave.

Hearing from Poppy that Bruce and Clay left, though devastating, wasn't surprising. He really didn't have any faith that they would stay. Though he is surprised that both John Dory and Floyd didn't immediately leave, he's still convinced that they will soon. It will just take a little longer for them to go.

And it's been touched on in earlier chapters, but he does believe that Poppy is going to leave him too. That any moment she's going to decide that she's done with him and leave.

The worst part is that he believes that he deserves it. In his perspective, he's been dating Poppy for about 2 days. And during those two days, he's seen her act in a way that she never has before. Mostly, he's never seen her sad, and he's never heard her scream in anger like she did in the hallway.

He thinks that cutting off his relationship with her will end her pain. Which is so very incredibly wrong, but he's unable to see that.

okay so i couldn't help but have more thoughts watching s2e8 so here's my further rambles as i get through the episode besides me just going "oomf women <3" - spoiler alert under the cut

listen,,,,, the dark troopers are objectively terrifying and i hate them but man, they're so overkill at times sorry it feels so hopeless to watch that trooper totally annihilate and withstand din like that

on a similar note, din my beloved, how many head injuries do you have? because goddamn that's one hell of a beating and idk that "he has the helmet on!" so???? you think you can get punched in the head continuously by a beskar droid and come out with no damage?? at the very least his ears are fucked from the sound, at minimum my man has a concussion rn, and at the most he's got some serious shit going on (don't get me started on s1e8 because that's how I started writing my mando oc into the show, cause the medical issues that din most definitely would be dealing with are solid and i had to vent those medical frustrations somewhere)

i absolutely adore than din does not give a single fuck about literally anything other than his child. darksaber? don't know it and don't care to, just give me my kid. i respect that so much like, he doesn't care about the power it brings nor does he seem to really understand what the darksaber is or does, he just wants his kiddo to be safe with him and leave all that political bullshit to others. totally understandable

moff gideon is such a cool and complex character, and i think giancarlo esposito was the absolute perfect casting for this because he brings immense nuance to the role. why did he have me genuinely believing he was gonna let din leave with grogu? why are din and me both this gullible? is it because of his masterful delivery, or because we both want to see the best in people? maybe we'll never know

cue one of my absolute favourite fight scenes perhaps from the whole series - obsessed with the choreographie of this scene and the hand to hand combat. the spear kick and flip literally makes me pause and rewind every time like, i can't help but make a "ooh" sound out loud because i love it so much. gods we should have gotten so much more of this style of fighting!!! nothing screams mandalorian more to me than this battle y'all

DIN HOLDING MOFF GIDEON AT THE END OF HIS SPEAR OHHHH MAN yeah this scene really does it for me in so many ways i'm truly just a girl when watching this episode (not to mention he just casually accidentally became the one to rightfully claim the throne of mandalore, i'll never not find this funny as fuck, especially bo katan's reaction later i'm already giggling)

gideon's glee at bo katan not having the darksaber is actually so amusing and it rubs off on me cause why am i also cackling at her seething anger towards din rn. my man does not give a shit about this weapon, is fine just giving it to her, but because of some stupid ass ancient tradition she can't take it?? comedy gold right here. hey remember when i said we never see the dark troopers again? yeah i totally forgot about them coming back to the ship lol sorry y'all i only ever watched this episode once because i'm too emotionally attached to the first season and never properly rewatched the second one until now. i have seen season 3 but i genuinely do not remember a single fucking thing about it so that's also gonna be fun

i think one of the reasons i find the dark troopers so genuinely unsettling is because they give off massive ww2 germany vibes, and by that i mean they visually feel reminiscent of the helmet style and it gives me luftwaffe vibes. in holland we get a lot of education on that stuff, especially since i'm from the east so we focus on that quite a bit since we were the first to be invaded (if my opa was still alive i think he would have hated star wars because of the overtness of the real war implications) so idk it sets off massive red flags and bells in my head and sends a bit of a chill down my spine. the music isn't helping though

also luke is so damn dramatic with it, i love this kid <3 i was not a star wars child because my parents were never into it, so the mandalorian is what got me into star wars, but i really enjoy the original trilogy! a new hope is probably my fave, as simple as that sounds, just because i adore the trios dynamic in it so much, and i never thought i would get so into the lore and fandom but it's so cool?? i'm glad i could get into star wars even if it was later than most people

gods the fight choreographie *MWAH* i love it, obsessed with watching luke swipe through these troopers with such grace and ease, using the force so sparingly yet so effectively, it's not even that showy or anything, it's (mostly) very practical and i adore that!!

BRO IVE BEEN WANTING TO DO BJD'S FOR AGES its only recently that i kinda want to make the sandersons sbndndndnd. i still wanna do the plushies first cuz im not super great with making things by hand and i dont have the materials to make bjd's of 'em yet. i do have some old dolls, but i get the feeling that if i try to work on them, theyre gonna get really badly messed up

initially i wanted to make the redesigns i have for some of my fave monster high characters so they look more monstery, mostly headmistress bloodgood cuz i am determined to make her look more like a dullahan cuz i have so many thoughts about that in particular and im a lil saddened they never really took that route, but its understandable cuz a) that'd probs take a lot of time to animate and b) dullhahan are actually really terrifying and i dont think they wanted to make her so scary that she'd frighten kids (i feel like if they did go that route, lil kid me wouldve fallen even harder for her than i already did and that is saying something sbdbdn)

i feel like you could probably use some kind of sculpting or modeling clay to add on to the dolls to make them fat, but idk what types of clay would work for that dbbdbd. like, ive seen so many people use clay to sculpt out horns or thicken and/or lengthen a doll's arms or legs, so i dont see why you couldnt do somwthing similar for mary

i swear its something about creating a 3 dimensional thing that feels so exciting and so intrinsicly human, if that makes sense? like, being able to make dolls and figurines and charms and stuff out of clay and puting it together onto something sturdy to make sure it doesnt fall to pieces, something people have done since forever and changed it over time with new materials to work with and new processes to use it just. idk if im maoing a lick of sense, i just woke up shdjdnnf

i dont really have much experience in the sculpting area, but i think thats what makes working with new mediums so much fun. just being able to mess around and learn firsthand what works and doesnt work and learning from that, using your old creations and inspiration for something new. thats part of the reason why i keep a lot of my sketches, even if theyre really old. i always wind up inspired by it, and i wind up recreating the thing with how i do art now, or i try to put it into a new medium i learned as a sort of testament to how much that thing meant to me

aahh, i rambled on too shdjjd. i really wanna make dolls of them now. maybe i should see if my community college has any sculpting classes, that way even if we dont quite learn to make human/human adjacent things, it might give me just the help i need to be able to do it

thoughts while watching Happy Merry Ending (episodes 4-6)

Episode 4:

This creep this creep omg I'm finding this CEO viscerally disturbing. Even when he's just sitting there. Kudus to the actor (and to the production in general). Oh no, he was Seung Jun's CEO too? This show is breaking my heart for this man, and the open-hearted person he was Before. He once was going to be an idol himself. And now I'm worried for this new idol that the CEO is probably trying to groom.

This actor can actually dance! I'm guessing he's an idol himself? I haven't checked.

One thing this show does very well is instantly create a feeling with the blocking, camera work, lighting, music, editing, etc. Yet subtly enough to not hit you over the head with it. It's immersing me in the emotions, and I think is also an important way of being efficient with the storytelling in such a short show. Anyway, the CEO here, all in black standing between Seung Jun and the mirror, is mildly terrifying.

Still feeling undecided about Jae Hyeon, and his aggressively inserting himself into Seung Jun's life with very few green lights from SJ. Still, he does have his awkward charm.

That final moment has me mostly convinced that Ho Yeon does have a crush on Seung Jun. Which, on the one hand I ship it cause I love Ho Yeon. But in the other hand, knowing his backstory now, I also wish for Seung Jun to have a good platonic friend solidly in his corner.

I've become quite impressed with Seung Jun's actor in this. This might end up being another one of those shows where I fall head over heels for one of the main characters, and the other one is... just kinda there. Not as much as in the last KBL I watched [redacted so I don't have to tag it], but my main interest in him is how he makes Seung Jun feel. (Unsurprisingly, it's another golden retriever seme paired with a reluctant uke that makes me feel this way.)

Episode 5:

Oh Ho Yeon. My baby. I changed my mind. I ship these old friends. The sadness on his face. The way he tried to rally for Seung Jun and be happy he was coming out of his shell.

Ok Jae Hyeon. The sunglasses get you MAJOR points. And them walking together after is cute. You're right, JH, it is nice to see SJ smile. But also. You keep apologizing for being intrusive, but then you do it again. I realize the seme in this sort of plot needs to be this active or the story won't go anywhere. But idk, I guess this character doesn't have quite enough charm to completely pull it off. At least for me.

What the fuck bro! Did you just KIDNAP Seung Jun?! And confiscate his fucking phone? I get it's supposed to be sweet caretaking, but y'all don't know each other like that yet. Are we sure this is a BL? I am NOT getting good vibes from this guy right now. And I was just thinking I really liked the show. How it wasn't my favorite trope but it the whole thing was well made. Please don't ruin in for me with an indistinguishably rancid new love interest to replace the rancid ex. 😩🥺

Unfortunately, that beach scene has converted me fully to second lead syndrome. They have so much better chemistry! I can see their connection. I could maybe imagine that eventually Jae Hyeon could develop that with Seung Jun, but he's rushing things along way too fast. That love confession left me completely cold. Which is not what I want from my love confessions! As for the kiss... 😂 well at least they tried, bless their hearts. They avoided a dead fish kiss. Did it look like either of them were paying any attention to each other as they moved their mouths? No, but I'll still give them credit.

I think at this point it's best for me to just watch this show not as a BL but as Seung Jun's story of healing. With Jae Hyeon just one of the people around him. And cross my fingers that the beautiful Ho Yeon, love of my life, doesn't end up being creepy and possessive too.

Episode 11: And then Seung Jun, having gained confidence from this whirlwind romance but realizing he doesn't actually know or even like this man very well, dumps Jae Hyeon and sees that the one he's been searching for has been there all along, steadily supporting him, quietly loving him. And he and Ho Yeon live happily ever after. No? That's not how it's gonna end? It already does in my mind. (I will SHRIEK with joy (and shock) if Ho Yeon turns out to be end game.)

Seung Jun telling Chan Wu that he can call, offering support to this new idol who could be in the same vulnerable place he was, Before. (I'm not entirely sure that's what the show is going for, but it's how I've decided to read it.) Also, I've really liked seeing Seung Jun's confidence when he's in teacher mode. This actor is giving him layers.

*whimper* every time this ceo is on screen I feel actual dread in my stomach. He doesn't feel like a cartoon villain, like many abusers on screen, he seems horrifyingly plausible. But Seung Jun manages to tell him off, which I'm guessing took a lot of courage. (But also, I'm still confused about what their relationship had been. Were they involved sexually? Did Seung Jun think they were dating? The episode title called him the "X" but also everything they've shown could just be Svengali-like grooming with no official lines crossed.)

Episode 6

Oh my darling. You were finally starting to heal and take risks and the this evil piece of shit comes to try and ruin you again. But you can be proud of yourself for holding it together while he was standing there. (Both actors are so good.)

You can see how much Ho Yeon is aching for him and wants to make it better but doesn't know how.

(Honestly these scene with Jae Hyeon don't manage to penetrate my brain, now that I'm not thinking about it as his story)

You evil manipulative shithead. Brave Seung Jun for facing down the source of his trauma to help this next generation of victim.

Oh Chan Wu. I can't even be mad at you. Poor thing is going to have to live with the guilt; I can see him feeling it, even if he doesn't understand what the manipulations are all about.

This confrontation scene was very well done. Too much to write about briefly.

But I'm also pretty sure that it clarifies that they were "romantically" together.

A brief bright flare of hope that Jae Hyeon was going to recognize his creepiness and the second half of the show should be a reckongk g. But no. Deflation. It seems he's just reminiscing fondly about it, and inspired to a second round of invasiveness. (Yes, Seong Jun ghosted him and yes he has the right to be concerned and sad. But. Still.)

So. This show is kind of odd. First of all, it's very well made. But it also seems to trying to tell two stories that are at odds with each other? There is the very classic seme-uke BL, with an extreme version of those roles. But then they went and made the "uke" way too complex for that, with too realistic a backstory to be fitted in to that trope-y slot. So Jae Hyeon is chugging along being a BL hero, unaware of all the undercurrents, while Seung Jun, who's been kind of drifting through life in a PTSD haze, seems like he's drifted into this relationship because it's there, and it's something new to try to escape the fog. But not because he had any real connection to this person who wants him but doesn't understand him.

Like this fight scene. It was well done. But Jae Hyeon comes running up like the hero seme protecting his uke from Generic Threat. Which feels kinda irrelevant to the work Seung Jun has done to heal and face his abuser. Not that he shouldn't get help; I appreciate the assist. I guess it just feels off to turn this complexity into a Romantic BL Momement. Or a possessive pissing contest between the alpha men. "I don't know what it was like before, but now I'm not letting him go." Like. How is that the right line for this situation?

I don't have PTSD, but this portrayal of it also feels grounded and real. Just to add to the dissonance. Not that there couldn't be a good BL involving a healing character. But one with this sort of genre-constricted seme ain't it. Not just my personal dislike, tonally and structurally it makes no sense. (I like this show a million times better than LITA. But this is a much gentler version of that same problem.)

Well. 40% or the show remaining, and I'm not really sure how they're going to use it. I know what I wish for, but doubt I (or Ho Yeon) will be that lucky. But with these two conflicting genres we're in, I can't guess what story will take precedence.

(Also, these eps are only 15 minutes and yet my notes keep getting longer and longer. Oh well, c'est la vie.)

We're going to try to talk/answer any of your questions or theories without spoiling anything we have planned but firstly! You should definitely listen to The Magnus Archives it's such a good podcast. You don't have to worry about our fic containing spoilers for any of the events in the podcast (to my knowledge, at least. Anyone is free to correct me).

____ 1) Our main reason for having him wait a day before respawning was so THIS MAN COULD SLEEP. This man hasn't had a proper 8 hours of sleep in weeks at this point and needed the rest. The Universe spoke and said he needs to sleep.

2) We're actually going to start to explore people dying in the next chapter and we are VERY very exciting to start on that. What I think will be funny even going forward is seeing how terrified Jon is of seeing people die verse how laid back the hermits are about it. Cause realistically this is what, their ninth season so I'd say they're pretty desensitized to it.

3) I think about his reaction to Doc a lot cuz here comes this shirtless creeper goat cyborg with crocs. IT'S JUST TOO PERFECT. We haven't pin pointed when we're going to introduce the two but when we do it's going to be so much fun to write.

4) Cub <3 <3 <3 So far Cub has been our favorite hermit to write cuz he's just so chill. He could say the most out there sentence and you'll be looking at him and he's just got a blank expression. You'll look at him like did you not just hear what came out of your mouth and he'll look like he's said nothing wrong. Love his guy

5) It's just a few things we think about the difference between hermits and non hermits. For hermits mining for resources is an (at least) a once a week things. Non hermits haven't needed to mine for resources by hand since what, since heavy machinery was introduced on the scene. So it's not something they think about unless their job is to mine for those resources / work those heavy machines.

6) I wouldn't say it's foreshadowing but mainly a light jab at Jon cuz maybe he looks like the kind of guy who you'd give him simply directions and he still gets lost.

(We are those people. Driving downtown is confusing even with a gps)

But yes, maybe Jon does have an encounter with some mobs later on. Who's to say? Hehe.

Anyways, I'm super glad that you've been enjoying our fic so far! Super exciting to get back to writing it more often now that we have a lot more free time.
