This took a while. It may have just been two days but I spent that entire two days working on this non-stop so

I've almost never drawn astrotrain so this was a bit of the challenge. His design may be inconsistent/wrong

This was full of experimentation...you can kinda figure it which parts I was lazy and which parts I struggled the most :p

Oh yeah and he has sharp teeth. Cuz it looks cool.

Upon which they comment about how gorgeous and advanced his interior is and how they’ve never seen so cool a train at which he turns back, dumps them into his hand, and goes “go on”

So Transformers is a thing I like. Mostly "Transformers Animated". Because TFA Blitzwing is my favorite. I've got a backlog of stuff I've been meaning to share but just never got around to.

Like others, I have speculated what he must've been like before he became a triple changer. My current headcanon is that he was similar to G1 in appearance. His face is white, and is shaped like if Icy wore Hothead's visor. And his personality is a mix between all three of his faces. He's rambunctious and loud, but surprisingly strategic in and capable in battle, but also has a relatively short temper.

Becoming a triple changer basically ripped those aspects of his personality apart, and each one became an extreme version of those traits. To have any semblance of his original personality would require rapid shifting between the faces, but that's disorienting for everyone while also not really succeeding.

Blitzwing does not have DID(Disassociative Identity Disorder), nor a fictional variant of it. The faces are not different characters, and none of them are the "original" face. And they are all equally intelligent and aware(meaning Hothead isn't dumb and Random is not a innocent baby). The main difference is how each face makes decisions and expresses himself. They are all the same Blitzwing, each face just represents an isolated aspect of his original personality, and the jarring mood shift between them.

Icy, Random, and Hothead are not their names. They're just labels to clarify what behavior set is being referred to. He'll get upset if he's referred to them as if they're his name. As he said in the first episode, "The name's Blitzwing!" Using them as a descriptive prefix is acceptable (ie "Icy Blitzwing" is calm and calculated), but just barely; it's a reminder of how fractured his mind has become.

Despite the everyday struggles, each face has its benefits.

Icy is strategic, observant, and calculating. Hothead is powerful, resilient, and persistent. Random is versatile, quick-witted, unpredictable, and adaptable.

On the downside, Hothead and Random are prone to brash decisions. Hothead is easily provoked, and Random is easily distracted and is distracting. Icy lacks passion or ambition and is overall subdued.

Overall, Icy is the most stable of the three. And is the most tolerable for the other Decepticons to deal with(more tolerable than his original personality, even). Blitzwing used to switch between the faces more wildly and leaving him more disoriented. So he had to train himself to switch smoothly and default to Icy(partly so he doesn't piss off Megatron too much).

And as a final note! He was best buddies with Astrotrain. But things ended tragically. I don't have details set in stone, but I have a few ideas I'll throw out later.

BEHOLD! The Son!!

So I was trying to come up with a name for him cause since he doesn’t have that second Alt mode yet, calling his Astrotrain doesn’t make sense. Then I found out trains have naming conventions and gave him the model name Capricorn Num. 3 (so he at least has some “stars” in his name)

Then my friends started calling him Capri, Cappy, Cap’N (his favourite) and then someone said “would Blitzwing call him Caprison?” and that person is a fucking genius.

His personality is very much based on the humans that have been around that train, so many museum staff that give train facts and history to guests and train technicians.

As such, he is obsessed with trains! He eventually becomes like a novelty tour train for Detroit and doesn’t really join any factions (much to his dad’s insistence). He lives in that museum and is treated with the outmost care, prob because he tech is one of the exhibits but also now a valued staff member :3

His other alt mode is something he doesn’t really mind not having because in his mind he is just train.

But perhaps future circumstances will force him to make a decision and get that second form of his 👀

Transformers G1

Now there are four of them!!

Astrotrain and blitzwing, blitzwing and astrotrain the local triplechangers in the decepticon faction, had been acting weird or at least weirder than normal.

It's not until a few days later than the duo bring in two new recluits, a pair of twins that look like they would fit better with the autscum that the decepticons, it isn't until a few months of them being in the decepticon intel department that some cons realize why the triple changers brought them, or at least it's their theories.

Carrying, both twins are carrying, and either they are already months in or that just a big sparkligs, the first theory is brought down by the constructicons who asure seeing blitzwing making out with the younger twin in a not so empty hall, the second theory is respalded by thundercracker and skywarp who assure seeing cliffjumper kissing with astrotrain in the groundbridge when they though no one was around to see them.

Megatron decides to wait till the emergence day to see if the triplechangers are the actual sires or if those two just found the minicon twins hot and decides to be step sires.

A few months later and yes they are in facts the sires and the sparkligs are theirs, both had mechs,one year in and when the sparklings are suposed to transform into their alt modes for the first time and you got a little train and a tank doing wheels all around the decepticon base until blitz jr decides he wants soundwave's visor and transform into a jet and goes and almost bodyslams soundwave and his cousing follows already transformed into a spaceship.

Megatron is delighted, they already had an advantage with blitzwing and astrotrain and now with the triplechangers sparklings they will be unstopabble (the sparklings still need to grow, but eh let the old man dream)

Astrotrain is such a beautiful Decepticon, his eyes are very unusual, you can look into them for a very long time. Has it ever happened that people are afraid to look a train in the eyes?

"Reflector like to pick on Astrotrain. Reflector pick on everyone. But he have a harder time with pulling pranks on Astrotrain because he scared of Astrotrain's eyes. Astrotrain not sure why! Whatever keeps the pest from mucking up Astrotrain's paint job though! Hmph!"

Thinking about who would succeed Megatron as Decepticon leader

Like, okay, I have two very specific scenarios in mind: one where Megatron and Optimus are basically teleported away and locked away somewhere and their respective teams have to rescue them (alive!! They all know they’re alive because that changes the scenario a lot) and so someone must lead. The second scenario would be a proper passing of the torch, which I’ll get to later. These both take place in the Generation One Cartoon continuity, also before the 86 movie. No one is dying lol

But…. yeah, who would?

Before we can get to that, we do have to ask: what makes a good Decepticon leader? Like, why does Megatron lead?

My short answer is the fact that Megatron has been the defacto leader for so long now, plus the ideals he embodies. The Decepticons are less like an organised team in the cartoon and are more akin to a pretty dysfunctional military family bitter rivals… who also have space guns. Yeah. As we can see in many episodes, Megatron’s leadership tends to default to ‘Yell And Threaten And Hit’ which works! Some of the time! <Cue One!Starscream saying his bit about strength over another, yada yada.> Megatron pretty much just hits anyone who tries to overthrow him.

… which leads to a pretty nasty power vacuum, like what we saw in the 86 movie, though less intense due to how he’s still There.

Obviously, Starscream tries to swoop in immediately with his ‘MEGATRON HAS FALLEN’ spiel. Cue Shockwave hitting him.

Starscream fails as a Decepticon leader because, despite the fact he’s wickedly smart and does have the firepower and a few followers to back him up, he’s very shortsighted. His flaws lie in how impatient he is, really. Screamer is smart but doesn’t have the (semi) wisdom in leading that Megatron has acquired. Short term gain vs long term consequences hasn’t clicked in his mind yet, and it probably won’t for a while. I believe in one continuity Megatron specifically stated that he was kind of training Starscream to take over as leader for the qualities I mentioned but that he wasn’t ready yet, as evidenced by everything. He has a long way to go before he can lead bots like the Decepticons, even if he won’t admit it.

So, Soundwave, yeah? Dude’s the glue holding this army together, whenever he leaves it all goes to scrap, he’s probably puppeteering Megatron behind the scenes. While very funny, I honestly doubt he’d ever take full control in the cartoon world. He did have a bid for power in the 86 movie IIRC but was content enough to follow behind Starscream when he won. What gives? Soundwave works best as a spymaster/communications guy. He’s in Megatron’s ear as a trusted advisor and someone to fall back on, but he never takes full control. Soundwave flourishes when he’s not in the limelight like Megatron does, dude goes on whole stakeouts where he just chills in altmode until someone gets curious and picks him up (or the infamous lamp transformation). Laserbeak is also a very specific spying tool. Considering how it seems like he has to go at least partially AFK during those sessions, it’s best he works in the shadows to help out the leader behind the scenes. He also strikes me as the kind of guy to really believe in the Decepticon cause beyond Megatron, so he would be forthcoming to a leader who can actually lead (looking at you, Screamer).

Then… Shockwave? Absolutely not, I love my guy but he’s a bit of a joke (CARTOON ONLY. I’m aware he’s actually scary in the comics). My mans got relegated to guard duty on Cybertron, which he fails at REPEATEDLY all the time once the space bridge is open and also those female Autobots kept stealing from him. Dude can’t shoot to save his life, he tries to bid for power and goes down after Astrotrain and Blitzwing make a 5-klick treaty to beat him up a bit. In the situation where Megatron is still alive, I suspect he might even split off from the main ‘Cons to stage his own rescue mission, because half the guys are arguing and the other half are scheming to get rid of Megatron. My favourite girlfailure probably gets captured almost immediately, but it’s the thought that counts.

So who leads the Decepticons? Ahah, clickbait, because I’m saving that for tomorrow. Though a quickfire:

Astrotrain does not get very far, I’m sorry. We saw how he turned out.

Blitzwing, if he had the opportunity, might be somewhat competent accidentally. With his SIC the former coach, he interrupts some Autobot plans and has a basic outline for rescuing Megatron before he’s stopped, either by another ‘Con or the Autobots.

The Constructicons self-destruct. They’re barely functional together and now they have to compete for leadership? Done for, over with. They’re saved by the fact that they form Devastator and can wreck the competition, but Hook complains about the state of the Decepticons, Long Haul wants to best up Autobots, and Scavenger’s best isn’t good enough.

Skywarp and Thundercracker don’t really have personalities ): My boys follow Starscream, being terrible advisors (one moreso than the other).

Waahoo. More to come tomorrow, might mess around and do the Autobots too, who knows!

More TF One storyboards released and I feel even more now that a lot of the issues I had with the movie wouldn't have been anywhere near so extreme if the earlier versions of the scenes had been used. Just a few things I noticed:

Optimus doesn't banish Megatron and the High Guard, which I thought seemed especially bad given they could be killed by Quintessons out there. In the storyboards, they all decide to leave basically by their own volition.

Even after their battle, Optimus stands back and lets Megatron make his case to everybody in the crowd! It also makes more sense then that the High Guard has a very "might makes right" mentality yet chose to follow Megatron even though he seemingly lost to Optimus there; they were swayed by the argument.

Megatron chooses to blast Orion through the spark as Orion is standing there. The way that's framed makes it feels so much more intentional and it would make complete sense for Elita-1 and B-127 to be horrified and enraged.

Orion explains that maybe Sentinel Prime does deserve death, but that it should be a collective decision made by all. This makes much more sense and is what I see defenders of the movie claim the vibes were, but it's really not in the final film. I also noticed that Sentinel reacts differently when Megatron beats him here. Instead of bargaining, he basically just says he surrenders.

Megatron's character arc seems like it would've been less sudden. In these earlier versions, he was always the leader of the friend group and seemed much more rash, making it seem more logical for him to fall into authoritarian leanings. It almost seems that traits of Orion and Megatron were swapped in the final movie!

I noticed Elita-1 mention she always wanted to be a soldier. This is an interesting detail that would've been cool to see.

Airachnid seems really cool in the earlier version of her fight scene and I appreciated how much she kicked ass and how hard everyone tried to take her down only to fail.

I felt more love for the franchise as a whole in these boards, I liked Orion's nerdy worldbuilding scene in which he explains the organic biomass on Cybertron and how it got there, and the fact that the train is led by Astrotrain.

This all being said, I don't think this version of the movie would've been perfect or anything, I still always find it to be a poor choice when Megatronus is associated with the Decepticons in this way. Assuming it's still Megatronus's t-cog Sentinel had, the fact that Sentinel doesn't transform but Megatron can using it suggests to me that Megatronus, despite not being the Fallen in this movie, signs off on Megatron's philosophies even if he was fighting Sentinel. I don't like implications that the War in TF is a religious war or that the Decepticons are backed by robo-Satan. Although I do still feel this issue wouldn't have been quite as extreme in the early version given that the Matrix seems like it requires confidence and for Orion to have grown a spine more than it seems like Primus's validation.

Alright, I just randomly discovered your blog, and I inhaled like all of the Local Trains AU content in less than half an hour. It makes me so happy and I can't wait for how it continues! I'm still incredibly new in the Transformers fandom and it's artists like you who make me want to learn the lore(s) even faster so I can also do silly stuff with my own little guys properly.

(Sentinel didnt want to kill them since they were too over powered) SO instead he placed them on the surface in a prison where all of the bots(non believers) or others who know about his plans go. My hand slipped~

“I like small things.” The warframe says, a crystal bud in the earliest stages of bloom pinched between his digits.

The bud would look small in any average bot's servo, but in the triple changer's hold, small is an understatement. The sight is ridiculous..... If impressive. A testament to the mech's control over his strength.

The diminutive thing glittered as it's stem was delicately rolled back and forth, reflecting rainbow hues into red optics.

The big mech continues to admire the colors, not bothering to flinch when a cluster of tangled cables and fluid lines are tugged free of their little nook within his chassis and left exposed to the cool evening air. His contemplative smile is steadfast and the crystal bud remains unshattered.

“You don’t say.” Gears grumbles as he begins to disentangle the cables and clamp damaged fluid lines shut. Primus knows the big mech lost more energon than the entirety of the mini’s own frame possessed. Now even the smallest of leaks risk lulling Astrotrain into an emergency stasis.

The purple mech gives an affirmative hum, his gaze then slides to the Autobot and his harried work.

“Why are you helping me?” Astrotrain asks.

“Of all the–!” Gears’s vents expel an irritated puff of air and he mutters, “In case it escaped your notice, I’m stranded on an uninhabited planet. My ship totaled. Absolutely wrecked! Fortunately, a person with a space shuttle alt mode is stranded here with me. Less fortunately, he’s a Con. But by some miracle he rather play with flowers than crush me. Too bad he ALSO rather play with flowers than stop himself from bleeding out. How are we supposed to get off this Primus forsaken rock if you're underfueled, huh?”  He shoves the bundle of lines and cables back into their rightful place. And maybe he does so with a bit more force than is necessary. “If you weren’t so big, you’d’ve gone grey by now!”

Astrotrain chuckles. Just like his voice, it’s an all encompassing sound with a slight echo type quality to it. Only, this sound rattles his internals along with the mini digging around inside them.

Gears curses, trying to steady himself. Coated in oil, coolant, and energon as he was, it took effort to avoid slipping.

“Once again, my size serves me well.” The triplechanger's chuckle peters off into a sigh, “Stature is a point of pride among Decepticons. A sign of strength and innate power one cannot achieve through any length of training.”

Of course it is.

Even to Autobots, bigger frames are better. For the time being. They’re at war after all. The only real draw to minibots and lithe frames are their lesser drain on resources.

Gears rolls his optics. “Telling me you’re a real catch, are you?”

“I suppose…..” Astrotrain smirks and looks back to the crystal bud. “Even among warframes, there are so few that can match, much less exceed, my size…… Makes it difficult to imagine myself with a bigger partner.”

“Oh boo-hoo.” The mini chides.

He’s begining to think he had a better chance escaping this planet with smoke signals than wasting his energy on the triplechanger.

He growls, “Big mech can’t find someone bigger to hold him.”

“Weren’t you listening?”

Gears feels something settle against one of the armored nodes protruding from his helm. He just knows it’s that crystal bud sitting there. Perfectly balanced.

He tilts his helm up and the bud slips. It shatters somewhere behind him against the other mech’s abdominal plating.

Astrotrain is staring at him. Expression soft.

Then he smiles.

“I like small things.”

The mini is suddenly aware of a massive servo coming in behind him. Four blunt digits curl around his left side while the fifth slips under his right arm. Gears is pulled up as the purple mech shifts damaged plating back around the inner workings of his chassis. The sizeable puncture is no longer weeping fluids and spitting sparks.

Astrotrain brings his other servo up under the red and blue mech. Gears finds he can sit quite comfortably in the triplechanger’s palm. He also finds himself at optic level with said triplechanger.

“And you-” Astrotrain pauses. He retracts the servo holding Gears’s sides, gently (ever so gently) caressing the minibot’s frame in the process. “-are quite small. Even for an Autobot."

So, in the midst of drawing transformers, I got it in my head that I must turn it into a character design project and start making human designs.

Naturally, I start with my favorites. Which is Blitzwing, Astrotrain, and my beloved OC, Smokestack. More about them HERE and HERE

Smokestack's human design came instantly. Then he became a kid so I could have Blitzdad. Then I started crafting backstories, and it became a whole thing. I'll make another post to get into more detail with that.

Overall, this managed to escalate into something separate from transformers and these are now all OCs in their own right.

Gunther Arnold Kriegsler, aka "Blitz" or "Blizter". He's a veteran with PTSD, particularly from the time he spent as a prisoner. He escaped with the help of Andrei Tomaski. The two are now best bros and roommates. Then social worker people call and tell Blitz that his now-deceased girlfriend had a kid while he was away, so now he's suddenly a dad of a four year old son he didn't know he had. And he doesn't really know what to do about it.

Samson Kohler (he has his mom's last name). Born while Blitz was a prisoner, mom dies when he's four. He bounces around foster homes for a little while until Blitz returns and gets to move in with his dad. He LOVES trains, hyperfixated actually. He is autistic about them, and I don't use that description lightly. He especially likes steam trains. He can tell you all about the 4-4-0s and the 2-8-0s and what the various personnel do. He taught himself math so he could count the wheels, and he could read the word train before any others. Blitz always has the Thomas the Tank Engine theme song stuck in his head now. Their house has become overrun with train stuff.

I'm unsure of if I should still be tagging this as transformers since it sorta evolved itself out of it. But I am for now. Maybe I'll stop after I post the various other human designs I've come up with.
