Forgive me for having a hard time seeing this scene as Criston's horrible rape, abuse against his will, and portrayal of Rhaenyra as a monster when it was decided to present the scene like this:

For me, it's the scene in which Criston agreed to sex, quickly jumping from "no" related to duty to "yes" related to desire, and he began to regret only when he realized that he had done wrong. If Criston were a woman, it would be the same for me. For me, it is not related to gender, and certainly not to skin color, but to the fact of how it was presented on the screen. I don't read script leaks or anything, I judge what I see.

Rhaenyra did wrong, yes. But don't make her out to be a rapist like Aegon, because these scenes are completely different. Criston was clearly showing that he wanted to be part of the act and was enjoying it. This wasn't a situation where Rhaenyra forced him and forcibly created a purely physical erection in him in order to abuse him. The above scenes show otherwise.

And what do the scenes with Dyana show?

That if you put them on par with what you see above, and think that Aegon's drunkenness is justified, then you are disgusting and defend rape. Not me.

Driftmark and Dragonstone had fallen once more and what was left of the loyalists scattered making the Battle of the Gullet a victory for them but comes at a great price.

Only a third of the fleet was able to survive and no one is surprised that it was Lys’ part that was left untouched.

The Lyseni Admiral brought gifts and two dragonseeds who turned cloaks seeing the battle lost.

Hugh Hammer and Ulf White would be given lands in the Reach if they managed to quell the rebellious lords.

Addam of Hull and Nettles had regrouped in Celtigar Isle before joining Daemon in the Riverlands, but not after ordering the dragons in the Dragonmont be unchained.

Perhaps having Silverwing here will aid Aemma’s spirits now that Jacaerys is dead.

Baela would likely escape and avenge her betrothed, but Dreamfyre would return to Helaena and provide some safety for the city when Aemond leaves it unguarded.

She loved Jace, they were set to wed on her six and tenth nameday because Jace wanted her to be sure and have the power to refuse if she didn’t wish to marry him.

Their dragons had chosen each other as mates and Vermax was supposed to bring forth a clutch of eggs on the next moon.

Now all those hopes and dreams Jace and Baela had for their future had died with him.

Eventually, Baela would be made to wed a man loyal to Aegon because she is a ward of the crown. Perhaps this husband will be a good man and deserving of her, but Aemma doesn’t think it likely.

All is bliss in the court of Aemma the Great, Alys Rivers’ words become more ironic and crueler with each passing day.

“I won’t, I promise.” The young queen nods in understanding and pulls herself together.

“Then prove it to me.” The girl said pulling out a hidden dagger and cutting her palm. “Let us swear a blood oath: we will avenge them, and we will take what they have stolen from us. With Fire and blood.”

Aemma takes the bloody knife and repeats the oath as she bites back the pain as they bind their hands with the ribbon Jace gave Baela, “We will avenge our dead and take what is ours with fire and blood.”

When Sharako Lohar enters the Throne Room as a hero, Aemma knows Baela’s knife won’t be the only thing to kill him the moment he is alone.

Criston clearly has every right to be upset with Rhaenyra (of course killing Joffrey and abusing her sons is obviously disgusting.)

It’s pretty clearly portrayed on-screen that she came home horny and drunk, lured the hot servant that she hired into her room, prevented him from leaving, continued to pressure him even after he said “Stop it”, and he was disinterested and conflicted because of his vows and consequences he could face (like exile).

But she gave zero fucks about his agency as a human... didn’t care about his feelings or the consequences to him. She needed a warm body to get her rocks off and Criston was the most convenient one for her, because, as Daemon told her this episode, “Targaryens take what they want.”

It’s the entire theme of the episode... Daemon takes Rhaenyra, Viserys takes Alicent, and Rhaenyra takes Criston. All immoral sexual acts done by powerful Targaryens so they can satiate their sexual urges, at the cost of those less powerful than them.

Criston has every right to be pissed with her considering she basically just used him to get her rocks off, then a short time later asked if he’d be her whore... completely tone-deaf and lacks empathy towards the person who sacrificed his honor and position (and even his life) just to be with her when she pressured him. Rhaenyra led Criston into making one mistake after another, she led him to despair and darkness.

Obviously Criston shares his portion of the blame for his eventual choice to give in (conflict within the human heart and all), but Rhaenyra’s immoral actions and serious consent issues in regards to sexual assault wholly make Criston the victim in this encounter, regardless of age or gender.

And I would never tell a victim of something like this they aren’t entitled to be angry or show hatred. People would sympathize more with Criston had their genders been reversed.

Second, anon, HotD's writing has hypocrisies on hypocrisies imbedded in it, so I don't absorb (nor do I try to) any ethical "lessons" or messages from this show, esp b/c it constantly contradicts itself and/or reduces the nuances of several characters' motivations, relationships, and actions. All the while trying to reduce as much as possible the fans' factionalism...when they should have just left well enough alone as this entire story asks us to weigh actions held against a woman for being a woman looking for power. HotD is not "deep"--it's colorful images and a pretense at "deepness" while removing all the "deepness".

You can read this post about my thoughts concerning how the writers wrote Rhaenyra & Criston's relationship, sex scenes, and their characteristics; why they vacuum real meaning from the scene in comparison to what is suggestible in the "unreliably-told account of the Dance"; etc. I also address "if the roles/genders were reversed". Other than that, I don't really have anything to say to you until there's a real counterargument to my arguments.
