Have you ever thought about the Hero of Spirits for your Creature AU? He drives a bigass train, has a really sweet temperament, and is really strong naturally in his game (routinely picks up boulders the size of himself) so maybe he’s a draft horse?

i never thought abt others heros apart of the main ones, but Spirit being a draft horse sounds really cool! he will be still young but very strong, maybe the one who carries the smallest ones of the gang while traveling

i would love to hear about indie horror rpg number 957!! i adore indie horror rpg games

WELL since u so kindly asked. it is now time for one of my Many corpse party rants ^_^ and yes ik corpse party is not as like. unknown as like, jimmy and the pulsating mass or smth (which is something i REALLY need to get around to playing, actually) but with the recent sequel announcement i have been spinning it in my head much more than usual. more accurately, how bad the writing got by the end and how disappointing the ending to the heavenly host arc was, because it had SO much potential!! the initial game was such a hit for a reason!! (initial referring to the like, DS version era, which feels weird to say but you get my point. initial full version of the main story.)

book of shadows highlights this issue the most for me, because like. it has Such a good concept. the idea that everything is contained in a horrifying time loop in which these characters slowly regain the memories of their past loop, including their gruesome deaths. that’s fucking terrifying!! having to face the fact that not only have you done this before, but you didn’t survive, and maybe you’re fated to never make it out of this alive, no matter how hard you try. that your fate will actually worsen the deeper you go into the loops. that nothing you do matters. it never did and it never will. (it also does some other things i like, such as delving into the alternate endings/realities and fleshing out more characters, dynamics, and backstories. that was good!! i enjoyed that!! largely bc the new stuff they introduced was actually yknow. new. and not characters from a novel they just threw in and acted like you should already be acquainted with them.)

the issue with book of shadows for me is that like. the characters are SO stupid. like. fucking mayu?? she REALIZES the marks on her body are there because that’s how she dies, then just. never fucking tells anyone?? and SPLITS UP??? i don’t care how self-conscious she is i will never excuse that choice. she recognizes the room that killed her. she makes a conscious decision to not enter it. and then enters anyway!!! because fuck you!!! if she’d ended up there again in any other way i wouldn’t have cared so much because like. again. they’re fated to always die in exponentially terrible ways yadda yadda. but the way they got her there is SO stupid. had she not ran into i THINK ayumi and yoshiki(???) it would’ve made everything a hundred times better. have her panic over her situation and not pay attention to where she’s going. running into others and not saying anything just makes it all so frustrating to play through. the concept is fun but it just becomes annoying instead of horrifying because you’re forced to sit through these characters being idiots and get distracted by that instead of the actual horror of the situation.

book of shadows just has gameplay issues as well, like jesus christ did we need such insane completion goals 😭 having to spam click through 30+ endings is more torture than anything they ever put their characters through. it’s not even worth it considering how much the ending sucks either. you had a good premise!!! an amazing one even!!!! why did you do her like that!!!

i think i know what bugs me the most about infinite darkness, which is also just an issue with RE in general.

everytime i think to myself "oh i'll rewatch infinite darkness", i'm only ever really thinking of the first two episodes, not the last two. all of that kinda dawned on me as i got to the end of ep 2.

resident evil has some pretty fuckin cool underlying themes: corruption, biological warfare, politics, treason, foreign policy, etc. most RE entries feature those themes as a starting point behind virtually every problem in the franchise. RC started as a result of the secret development of bioweapons to which the US contributed, damnation deals with the use of bioweapons in armed conflict, etc. then you've got some sillier villain motivations because it's RE and it has to be a little silly. but essentially, it's 1. virus/parasite/mold/BOW is being developed and 2. a private actor who's trying to either make a shit ton of money or just wants to bring about chaos gets ahold of it and 3. the US government is always kind of involved, somehow (and then there's a monster with a bulging eye and the place blows up).

so you've got these recurring themes which are most of the time dealt with in a more lighthearted manner: it turns out to be a big bad guy motivated by money or power who just turns people into monsters.

now the thing about infinite darkness is that it actually has a really interesting premise. you've got the war in penamstan, which features overt commentary on the US' foreign policy and involvement in other countries (callback to wars waged in the middle east), as well as the frequent accusations that the US is trying to get back at china by whatever means necessary. this is incredibly relevant in the international political landscape, and will continue to be for a good number of years. episodes one and two don't shy away from blatant criticism of the US.

and i keep thinking "FINALLY, it's getting serious." but it never does. because it's RE, and i love how unserious it is, yet i can't help but think about how it would turn out if it went through with its themes.

i'm coming back to this draft after watching death island because DI does a similar thing, but better? i think ID is essentially overly ambitious: it sets out too many themes and events and fails to follow up on them properly. you shouldn't start a discourse on imperialism and foreign policy if you're not ready to properly discuss the matter.

DI also weighs in on the bioterrorism vs capitalism vs the US government themes, but less seriously. it's all done through dylan, who has a certain set of views on the matter and wants to use the virus to reset the entire planet. but it doesn't really go beyond that: it's just dylan going "man fuck corporations and the US government" and then blatantly destroying the core 4 by giving them the most obnoxious reality check ever (which was EXACTLY what they needed). that's all. i like this better, because RE is a very unserious franchise at heart, and it shouldn't try to be something it isn't. the climax of any RE movie is always big monster with a countdown, like the games, and there's really only two solutions to that: either capcom starts using the CG movies to expand on the lore in a more serious way by divorcing themselves from the traditional layout of the games, or they keep the same formula as the games, but then they really shouldn't get into as much detail (there's just not enough time).

3. If they complimented each other, what would they say?

So, I'm not entirely sure if this question is meant to be read as "what types of things fall under the spectrum of compliments" or "write some lines of dialogue as a specific example." I have attempted both and fared worse with the latter, so the main post is going to get the former and maybe I'll tack on the latter when this gets archived on the lore blog. Forgive me if that was what you'd hoped for...

There are many things Balthazar can and does compliment Tristian on, although his compliments can sometimes come off like teasing- especially a certain way of emphasizing innocence. But there is sincerity there. When he talks about that innocence, it’s not in a moral sense or an ignorant sense. More a sincere affection seeing someone find wonder in the world and try to navigate it with optimism that hasn’t been worn away. There are plenty of other things to praise as well: that sunlit smile, a beautiful laugh, those soft golden eyes. The adorable huff of indignation or pouty frustration. These are all easy compliments, given lightly. Far weightier is the wonder he feels at Tristian’s sincere adherence to his values even after straying. Even though Tristian has failed to live up to those values in ways both large and small again and again, he remains committed and continues to try. The devotion is something which inspires a kind of awe. And every so often, that’s something that may be vocalized.

Tristian isn't so likely to pay compliments to beauty, but gladly recognizes when something has been done well. Careful diplomacy that avoids bloodshed, defusing high tensions, finding solutions which are compassionate and enrich the lives of others… those are all worth praising, although in some ways that may not be such a personal form of compliment. Less often voiced is the admiration for Balthazar’s confidence and free spirit. He always seems to understand himself in a way that others struggle with, and when he’s set his heart on something he puts everything he has into finding a way to work towards it. There’s something wondrous about that kind of perseverance.

15. What are traits they dislike in one another?

I think it’s as straightforward as you might expect from opposites (or near opposites)…

Tristian is often frustrated with Balthazar’s penchant for being anything but straightforward. What’s meant to be playful can become confusing and exasperating, and that’s before getting to the very large amount of outright lying Balthazar does. Seldom to Tristian, but it doesn’t really matter. The tendency to sidestep responsibility or toy with others through deceit- even having acquired some level of tolerance for it, it makes Tristian uncomfortable and it’s a poor way to treat others. Then there are all the other forms of pettiness and cruelty on top of that… The genuinely sadistic part of Balthazar is something he doesn’t care for. As much as he loves Balthazar, sometimes he does feel exhausted by him in ways that bring him close to doubting whether it was right to devote so much to him. Perhaps worst of all is when Balthazar seems to dismiss his concerns out of hand as naïve ignorance. That jaded condescension is infuriating and despair inducing in equal measure- being treated as a fool by someone you trust is painful.

And of course there are a number of things that frustrate Balthazar more than they charm him. A certain level of uptight moralizing, a naïve condescension that hurts as easily as it amuses, a way of sinking so much of himself in others… Even though these are all things that on some level captivate Balthazar, he can’t help but dislike them at the same time. And he hates feeling like he’s being lectured to or treated as simply misguided. Even though it’s less common than it once was, it still happens here and there, and it always makes him feel like Tristian doesn’t trust him or won’t listen. It stings. Even though he accepts that Tristian will never be like him (and loves him for it), he still wants to feel understood and to feel that Tristian has faith in him. In the end they can both get stuck talking past each other. It’s not the cause of most of their arguments, but it is what tends to escalate them. On a somewhat more petty level, Balthazar does feel some level of jealousy over Tristian’s devotion to Sarenrae… He can’t help but feel insecure hearing the love and wonder that color Tristian’s voice when he talks about his former life and his service to the goddess.

21. How have they changed each other for the better/for the worse?

Tristian’s influence on Balthazar is probably the more obvious thing. It would be easy to say that it makes him softer- and Tristian certainly does rein in some impulses- but more often than not this is motivated more by appeasing Tristian or the pragmatic knowledge that sometimes Tristian’s way just works than real compassion. What might be called Tristian’s influence (at least partly) is a deeper ability to form connections with others. It’s the capacity to care for the suffering of companions, to forgive friends the pains they’ve caused, to make an effort to bridge the gap when it’s difficult to understand others. None of these are skills he learned directly from Tristian (who has his own struggles in some of those areas) or could be said to be solely Tristian’s responsibility, but loving Tristian and choosing to take the risk on pursuing that love has caused him to grow a lot trying to navigate the messiness of a sincere relationship. It’s the slow, painful realization of a long buried hunger for connection. Tristian soothes Balthazar’s loneliness in more ways than just his companionship.

It might be expected that Balthazar is a corrupting influence on Tristian, but that wouldn’t be quite right. Balthazar makes Tristian far more aware of what inside of him can be selfish, short-sighted, or shallow. His insistence on knowing what Tristian wants also goes a long way towards untangling messy, suppressed desires from his desperate sense of purpose. Sometimes there are things Tristian thinks or wants or believes that go beyond what should be thought or wanted or believed as a servant of Sarenrae, things that can’t simply be called angelic for being in the psyche of an angel. And the vague recognition of that frightened Tristian once. It was something that he tried to deny. What Balthazar gives him more than anything else is the acceptance of that conflict between himself and what he believes he’s meant to be. Balthazar’s fierce love of what’s messy (and perhaps quite mortal) in Tristian gives him the safety and reassurance to approach his flaws on his own terms. It takes a long time to internalize the sense that having an ugly, flawed side is natural and not just the sign of someone broken who needs to be fixed. Perhaps in a way Balthazar’s influence makes him a better person; at the least, it opens a path for growth. And of course, all that agency and self-acceptance does foster a budding ability to make selfish choices… at least, every once in a while.

I like to imagine she’s doing the “how many fingers am I holding up” thing, though MC without her glasses is unlikely to have any clue whatsoever.

ꔫHow to Voluntarily Age Regress

ꔫHi all! I wanted to post this, but I can't call it as much a "guide" as I usually would, since it is purely my anecdotal experience!

ꔫNonetheless, I hope this is helpful to you in your endeavors!

ꔫTypically, when I am trying to regress, I start with age dreaming! This comes with a number of things, maybe it's:

Watching cartoons or another piece of media that I find comforting or that I've found puts me in the space

Coloring a picture or doing worksheets

Babytalking with my cgs, babysitters or other in-community friends

^Asking my cgs/babysitters to care for me as if I am already regressed

^^Generally interacting with other littles or friends I find comforting

Scrolling agere tags on here or ingesting other agere content

Using little gear like pacis, bottles, etc.

Playing with toys or playing video games that I've found put me in the space

Listening to a playlist that one of my cgs made me

Writing agere headcanons or making content of my ocs who regress

Daydreaming about agere outings, playdates, etc.

Going shopping and looking at toys

Cuddling, holding hands, getting my hair pet, etc.

ꔫThis is just a short list of things I've put together, there's a lot more that could be done, especially since it's extremely individual! This is just what works for me!

ꔫFrom there, I try to maintain this comforting and safe space by not taking on any work/responsibilities or really anything else not suitable for my small age.

ꔫAnd, it’s not like it’s a 100% success rate either! Sometimes, I’m just not feeling it; sometimes, I just continue age dreaming for the rest of the night! For me, you can’t really force it — it’s okay if it does happen, it’s okay if it doesn’t!

ꔫSome other helpful things:

I find it much easier to slip when I’m tired.

You might feel kinda silly being big and trying to do your small things, but that’s okay!

It’s not just a switch one can flip, so don’t be frustrated if it doesn’t come easily!

It’s different for everyone — for some people it comes really easily, for some people not so easily. Some people need to do a specific set of things and have a specific set of conditions to regress. Going further:

Not everyone can voluntarily regress, and that’s okay, but there’s no harm in trying it out!

Here are some ideas for folks tht may be struggling getting up &&doing the tingz !!

♡ Print off a sticker chart !! Ik for me having external motivation aka cute lil stickers showing how good I’ve been can rly rly help !!

♡ Bring along your stuffie/favorite toy !! They’re your fren & wanna help u do the thing !!

♡ Play age-appropriate music & dance & sing along while u work !! This can make the thing feel less daunting & more silly & fun !!

♡ Have a kid-appropriate movie/tv show on in the background !! Just be sure to not get too distracted, little one !! ଘ(੭˃ᴗ˂)੭

♡ Ask your cg for a reward if u complete all da tingz !! Rewards can be things like regression time w them that night, sweets, etc !! If u don’t have a cg, thts totally ok !! U can also do these things solo !! ദ്ദി ( ᵔ ᗜ ᵔ )

♡ Make urself a snack/meal first !! Ik for me sometimes the energy boost is definitely needed !! Some age-appropriate foods can be apple slices w peanut butter/caramel, mac n cheese, milk in a baba, etc !! Just stay healthy little ones !!

♡ This one’s may be harder for some, but try calling another liddol fren/someone who supports your regression if you’ve got any !! I’m lucky enough to have this option, it’s ok if u don’t !! But sometimes talking to somebody helps me get up & at’em !!

♡ Play a regression podcast !! This one’s good for those of us tht may not have a cg/regression buddies to talk to !! When I’ve been cg-less these have rly rly helped me !! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

Dealing with guilt and shame around age regression

I've been dealing with some guilt towards my regression the past couple days. I have been feeling self conscious and embarrassed about my regression and it's been making it harder to relax and let myself get into little space. I took some time this afternoon to brain storm a few things I can do and I wanted to share!!

🐸 Write it out! I have a "worry" journal. I set a 15 minute timer for myself and just let myself write whatever has been bothering me. After the 15 minutes is over I close the journal and throw it across my room.

🐌 You could also write a letter to someone talking about your feelings. This doesn't mean you have to give them that letter!! Sometimes it is soothing to write to someone who hurt you and then rip it up into tiny little pieces afterwards. Another option is to write a letter to your CG about how much you appreciate them and their support :)

🐸 Positive affirmations! I keep a sticky note on my chore chart of a few affirmations I can say to myself when I am worked up.

🐌 Meditation/Mindfulness. You can do ones that are made for kids if it helps! There are also kids toys that are geared at helping little ones slow down and take some deep breaths. My Furby has a relax mode where he guides me to do some breathing. It is both silly and relaxing enough to distract my brain for a little bit.

🐸 Ask your CG to write you a letter you can read when you are dealing with tough emotions. If you have a fictional CG you can write yourself a note pretending to be them! There are also people out there who will write you letters from your CG. Even if you don't have a CG, you can write a letter to yourself. When you are feeling big, write a letter of all the kind things you wish you could say to little you.

🐌 Age regression can be part of a healthy coping toolbox. You are not doing anything wrong by regressing. It is okay to regress. It is okay to take time for you. It is okay to do something that is just for your own happiness.

🐸 You are allowed to take up space. You are allowed to be messy and noisy and playful. You deserve love and care. You deserve to have your needs met. I'm sorry others in your life let you down and made you feel this way. But it will be okay, and we can heal together, I promi.

🐌 Remember; it is okay to take a break from voluntary regression for any reason. Your stuffies and dollies will understand and they will be there for you when you return. ♥️

If you are continually dealing with feelings of guilt and shame, don't be afraid to reach out to someone. It can hard to unlearn these sorts of things on your own. You aren't weak for needing extra support.
