Ok I'm pretty sure we're on the same wavelength in thinking about MM from Unsettled, but there's another option too so I'll just -- yea. Options.

If Max's mother didn't get sick and end up in the hospital I'm not sure how quickly they would've found themselves to a point where forgiveness was offered. Breathless was such a fun chapter to write for the shift in their dynamic. The stubborn determination to hate him forever, amen finally loosening to the point she can tell him things that she's known and fought against for too long.

If we went that route we would have missed out on the fantastic fun of what follows though... Well. I say fun.

Ok for the other thing that sprang to mind I unfortunately don't have a banner to use to indicate it but... Wine & Punishment? Because she stayed behind, let her dreams get placed on hold to be a caregiver and who knows what life would have been like for her had she chosen otherwise. (Not that she would have. But if said family member hadn't needed the hospital or close care I'm anticipating a different life trajectory would have resulted.)

So if we go to C50 and say that our girl isn't the one that walks in to make the discovery. OH the story would have changed. We know that given the right set of circumstances TWH will react. [ Thank you, worst holiday ever. ] I have to wonder... would Tom have tried to lock Mitch in. Would Tom and John - because John would have been right there with him - have tried to wrestle Mitch to the ground and hold him there while waiting for the cops to arrive? Would we will have ended up with a trashed kitchen, needing tiles and grout work. Would we have seen our girl rush to the hospital to see the nature of Tom's injuries resulting from his attempt at being her white knight. Would we still have gotten to meet our girl's father (and allow Tom to have the discussion about wanting to marry her, the ring he plans on giving her, the battles to let slide and the ones to stand firm on, etc etc etc.)

Oh the possibilities.

in case anyone's curious what i've been doing instead of drawing ponies these past few weeks, i have been slowly creating my dream animal crossing town in minecraft.
