imo a core part of the newmann dynamic is like... you've got these two very very intelligent people who have spent most of their lives being Smartest Guy In The Room. which feels great! but also, it's very hard to form close and trusting relationships when everyone else sees you as Smartest Guy In The Room. and if you maybe don't have great social skills to begin with, you can't figure out how to compensate. and it's hard to build up solid self-esteem when the only thing people value you for is your intelligence, and a lot of them resent you for that, too. so really it is very very lonely.

and then they meet! and neither of them is the smartest guy in the room anymore! and that is both EXHILIRATING (omg! someone who gets me!) and TERRIFYING (the fragile pillar i built my whole self-esteem on is crumbling! help!).

they do NOT know how to cope with this. best they can do is being obsessed with each other.

+ personally I don't care for cjshipping discourse? if your hms are brothers that's one thing, but i feel like the "chonny would feel weird if they kissed" argument kind of positions romantic relationships as uniquely More than other dynamics. it places romance on the top of the hierarchy as something that would be inherently deeper and thus more wrong than them being like... friends who cuddle?

what's the difference? none of my posts are "shipping" in a romantic sense, but why does the word "ship" have to exclusively refer to romantic relationships at all? a qpr is still a relationship. friendship is a relationship between people. undefined relationships are, obviously, a relationship. so why can't those be shipping too?

if you see them as family or are just personally uncomfortable with their relationships being romantic, that's fine! I don't see them as dating either! cultivate your online experience as much as you like, genuinely. but romance isn't above or more intense than other types of relationships. y'know?

Just realised Hiccup and Jack Frost as a ship fall into the trope of double identity preternatural dude W white/pale hair obsessed with a normal dude that gets pulled into his bs because of it that's so common in Japanese media cuz of Ryokira from Devilman by Go Nagai.

You could basically make a hijack au of any piece of Japanese media that adopts the Ryokira relationship dynamic and they would fit.

I'm about to fall down a plotbunny hole I haven't gone down since I was 13.
