KRASHLYN FANFIC

One where Ashlyn and Ali have the unfortunate unavoidable run in at Kristie and Sam’s wedding. (In this Kristie isn’t pregnant yet)

"Ali, what the fuck is she doing with my kids?" Ashlynn's voice was sharp, her anger rising as she glared across the lobby. Talking about a picture that has been circulating online.

Ali, trying to keep things from escalating, interrupted her with a calm but firm tone. "Ashlynn, our kids," she corrected, glancing around the lobby to make sure no one was paying attention. "Can we at least take this up to the room? I don't want to turn this into a scene."

Ashlynn shot her a glare, clearly irritated, but with a frustrated sigh, she nodded. "Fine," she muttered, following Ali into the elevator, her mood still simmering. The ride up was tense, neither of them speaking as the elevator hummed its way to the top, the silence heavy as they made their way into Ali’s room.

As soon as the door shut behind them, Ashlynn didn’t waste a second. ��She’s a stranger to them, Ali,” she snapped, her voice tight with frustration. ���I don’t care who you fuck, but she doesn’t need to be around our kids.” The last words came out through clenched teeth, her jaw tight with barely contained anger.

Ali exhaled slowly, a deep breath she’d been holding back, and couldn’t stop herself from letting it slip. “Oh, I’m sorry, Ashlynn. I should’ve chosen to date someone we both considered a friend, so the kids would know her better.”

The room went silent, the words hanging in the air between them, heavy and sharp.

Ashlynn’s eyes flashed with something like hurt, but Ali didn’t back down. Instead, she took another deep breath, trying to steady herself before speaking again. “Look,” she began, her voice calmer but still carrying the weight of the last few months. “We’ve been dating for a few months, and I’ve been careful about your feelings.” Not that you ever really thought about mine, Ali thought but didn’t say. “I told you beforehand that they’d meet her briefly. At lunch. In a public place. This is only the second time they’ll meet her outside of, you know, saying 'hi' or me talking to her on the phone.” Ali paused, looking Ashlynn directly in the eyes, her voice taking on a steadier tone. “And you’re here with Sophia. So, I don’t see what’s wrong.”

Ashlynn clenched her fists at her sides, the tension in her shoulders obvious. "I do care, Ali. You don’t get it." She took a breath, her eyes flicking to the side before locking with Ali’s. “I just want to protect them. From this.”

Ali didn’t have a comeback. Instead, she let the silence stretch again, the weight of their unspoken thoughts hanging in the space between them.

Since their divorce, Ali and Ashlynn had barely spoken without tension, especially after Ashlynn’s recent interview about how their marriage fell apart. Ali had tried to keep things civil for the kids, but it was hard when Ashlynn's bitterness seemed to seep into everything.

But today wasn’t about them. Not about old wounds. Not about Ali dating someone new. It was about Sam and Kristie’s wedding, and Ali wasn’t going to let Ashlynn ruin it.

“We’re going to get along, Ashlynn,” Ali said, her voice calm but firm. “Whether you like it or not. This is about them, not us.”

Almost on cue, Ali heard the hotel door click open, and two overly energetic kids came running straight into her arms. She smiled, hugging them tightly, but she knew once the chaos of affection died down, she’d look up to find her brother Kyle standing in the doorway with a surprised look on his face, wondering why her ex was in the room.

But when Ali finally pulled away from the kids and looked up, the surprise wasn’t on Kyle’s face—it was on hers. Standing in the doorway with him was Sophia, making her way toward Ashlynn, and Jen, who stood by the door with a shy smile, looking uneasy with the different relationships in the room.

Ali’s heart skipped a beat, the tension in the air palpable. It was one thing to deal with Ashlynn and her own complicated feelings, but now it felt like everything was shifting again, and none of them had the chance to catch up.

To everyone's surprise, Jen spoke first, her soft Scottish accent breaking the silence. She gave a small, warm smile as she turned toward Sophia and Ashlynn. "Hi, I’m Jen," she said, "It's really nice to meet you both."

Sophia blinked, momentarily taken aback by Jen’s easygoing nature, her own smile awkward but genuine. Ashlynn, however, stayed quiet, her arms crossed tightly, clearly not quite sure how to respond to this new dynamic.

Jen, sensing the tension but remaining unfazed, added with a light laugh, “I know this is a bit of a strange situation, but I thought it’d be better to introduce myself than just stand here feeling all awkward.”

Her accent, rich and soothing, seemed to add a layer of calm to the room, disarming the moment in a way that only someone like Jen could do. There was a softness in her tone, a kindness that didn’t quite fit with the usual intensity of Ashlynn’s guarded demeanor.

Ashlynn finally uncrossed her arms, though her expression remained cautious. "Nice to meet you, I guess," she said, her voice still a little stiff but not as dismissive as before.

Sophia nodded, a little more at ease now. "Yeah, nice to meet you."

Jen’s warm smile never wavered as she responded, “Thanks, both of you. I know this whole thing isn’t ideal, but I’m sure we can make it work, right?” She glanced over at Ali, who gave her a small nod, grateful for Jen’s ability to ease the moment.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was a step in the right direction.

The internet had already exploded with pictures of all of them together—Ali, Ashlynn, Jen, and the kids—each snapshot sparking a wave of comments and speculation. People were quick to share their opinions, and Ali had already received a handful of messages from her friends and former teammates, all asking if she was okay. Some were supportive, others were a bit more pointed, but all of them wanted to know how she was handling it.

Ali couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the notifications lighting up her phone. She had gotten used to people weighing in on her life, especially since the divorce, but this felt different. This wasn’t just about her and Ashlynn anymore; it was about new relationships, new faces, and a whole lot of uncomfortable conversations.

Thankfully, though, there was a small silver lining. Besides today and the wedding, Ali knew that she wouldn’t have to deal with spending much more time with Ashlynn. They would be operating as separate families, as always. As much as the idea of being in the same hotel together felt like a recipe for disaster, it wasn’t like they were going to spend their days socializing. Both of them had their own groups, their own agendas, and honestly, Ashlynn wouldn’t want to be around for much longer than necessary.

Ali glanced at Jen, who was talking quietly with Kyle, and then at Ashlynn, who had retreated into a quiet corner of the room. There was a clear divide between the two worlds, even within the same space, and Ali was resigned to the fact that the only time their paths would cross was when it was unavoidable. Like today. Like the wedding.

But for now, she could breathe. It wouldn’t be perfect, but she didn’t expect it to be. At least they were getting through it, one awkward moment at a time.

“How do you feel?” Jen asked softly, rubbing her face in exhaustion.

“I’m just glad we got the kids’ schedule with Ashlyn finalized,” Ali replied, looking up at her girlfriend with a tired but satisfied smile.

“Do you want to get some dinner?” Jen suggested, her voice gentle.

Ali laid back in bed, the weight of the day pressing on her, and she let out a sigh, clearly not in the mood to go out.

Jen took the hint and smiled, her decision already made. “Room service it is,” she murmured, reaching for the remote and turning on a movie. As the soft glow of the screen illuminated the room, she slipped under the covers, pulling Ali in close, the two of them settling into the quiet comfort of the evening.

i was rewatching hsmtmts s3ep6 because i was bored and i needed something to fill the silence. then the scene where ashlyn and ms. jen were talking started.

when the topic was about love, ashlyn said, and i quote, "but that's the way it's supposed to be right? no one can tell you what to feel,"

then she follows it up, "i've been yelling at a FEW people this summer,"

note the capitalized word 'FEW'. not one, but few. back in camp, the only person that ashlyn has vocalized her admiration for while at camp, in s3 with val. but her acknowledging that she's been 'yelling' at a few people, and not just a single person shows that she was mildly aware of how she wasn't being apprehensive and screamy with val, but with someone else too. and that someone else just happens to be her future gf maddox.

therefore, with this i further the argument that ashlyn in fact had felt something for maddox way back in camp but it had been overshadowed by the more loud and extravagant crush she had on val. but nonetheless, the feeling was there.

The stark difference between the HSMTMTS cast and the TNS cast is with HSMTMTS I'm picking literally any character that has been shown to dance at least passably well and with TNS I have an entire cast of dancers but I'm mostly sticking with just the ballet dancers (and the dancers that can dance en pointe) so it's not too heavily skewed in that direction. It's a very odd cast of characters.

Because I don't have enough projects I'm working on (sarcastic) I decided to vaguely plan out a HSMTMTS/TNS Nutcracker crossover fic for next year. And with how everything is shaking out we've got Michelle and Emily as teachers along with Ben who is 1000% done with them.

There’s no tea. Just Ash stans trying to smear Ali to justify that idiot Ashlyn. As if it were the same thing then, even if it were true.

i did a binge of hsmtmts s1 to s4, and it really struck me how much i missed having the school musical as the that held all the plots together

in s1 all of the characters are motivated by that musical. Ricky and Nini getting cast as the leads and it means a lot to them because its first time anybody has believed in them. Gina and Ej dont get the leads and it hurts their egos. we get to watch all of the kids bond over the musical, and when miss Jen is going to be fired all of the drama club do a performance to save her.

in s2 they have the menkies, where the club feel the pressure to beat North High who is actively sabotaging them. getting cast as Belle makes Ashlyn insecure, Gina choreographing with Carlos causes tension between them, and Ricky wanting Nini to be the show makes them fight. in end they don’t open the results because they only cared that they put on a good show

in s3 the doc adds pressure on them. getting cast as the lead makes Kourtney confront her anxiety, getting cast as ensemble sends Ashlyn into an identity crisis, Ej having to direct the show puts a rift between him and Gina. rehearsals and the doc puts characters in situations that move their story forward. in the end they all came together to say forget the doc because putting on the best show was more important to them

in s4 all of the characters are in separate plots with nothing holding them together. Rina are in a generic Romeo + Juliet/star is born story, Kourtney has the mandatory college storyline, and Ashlyn and Carlos get B plot relationship drama. all of the stories feel disconnected because none of them really relate to each other. there was literally no narrative reason for any characters to be extras in the films, they were just props in the back (even Ricky, because he was only there to react to filming in jealously or awe). the only character that talks about the musical is Ricky (and Gina), and we only saw one rehearsal

and like… all of that is fine, but they found their magnum opus in s3. the pacing was better and the dramatic irony had great pay-offs, the themes, the balancing of storylines and characters was infinitely better (it’s shocking how downgraded Ashlyn was in s4) and it had a shorter runtime. this season wasn’t about high school kids putting on a musical. with the exception of Kourtney and miss Jen this seasons not really about high school. a part that of me really missed watching a group of kids grow together through the school year while they put on a musical (especially if their ‘senior’ year😭)
