The stark difference between the HSMTMTS cast and the TNS cast is with HSMTMTS I'm picking literally any character that has been shown to dance at least passably well and with TNS I have an entire cast of dancers but I'm mostly sticking with just the ballet dancers (and the dancers that can dance en pointe) so it's not too heavily skewed in that direction. It's a very odd cast of characters.

Because I don't have enough projects I'm working on (sarcastic) I decided to vaguely plan out a HSMTMTS/TNS Nutcracker crossover fic for next year. And with how everything is shaking out we've got Michelle and Emily as teachers along with Ben who is 1000% done with them.

i was rewatching hsmtmts s3ep6 because i was bored and i needed something to fill the silence. then the scene where ashlyn and ms. jen were talking started.

when the topic was about love, ashlyn said, and i quote, "but that's the way it's supposed to be right? no one can tell you what to feel,"

then she follows it up, "i've been yelling at a FEW people this summer,"

note the capitalized word 'FEW'. not one, but few. back in camp, the only person that ashlyn has vocalized her admiration for while at camp, in s3 with val. but her acknowledging that she's been 'yelling' at a few people, and not just a single person shows that she was mildly aware of how she wasn't being apprehensive and screamy with val, but with someone else too. and that someone else just happens to be her future gf maddox.

therefore, with this i further the argument that ashlyn in fact had felt something for maddox way back in camp but it had been overshadowed by the more loud and extravagant crush she had on val. but nonetheless, the feeling was there.

i did a binge of hsmtmts s1 to s4, and it really struck me how much i missed having the school musical as the that held all the plots together

in s1 all of the characters are motivated by that musical. Ricky and Nini getting cast as the leads and it means a lot to them because its first time anybody has believed in them. Gina and Ej dont get the leads and it hurts their egos. we get to watch all of the kids bond over the musical, and when miss Jen is going to be fired all of the drama club do a performance to save her.

in s2 they have the menkies, where the club feel the pressure to beat North High who is actively sabotaging them. getting cast as Belle makes Ashlyn insecure, Gina choreographing with Carlos causes tension between them, and Ricky wanting Nini to be the show makes them fight. in end they don’t open the results because they only cared that they put on a good show

in s3 the doc adds pressure on them. getting cast as the lead makes Kourtney confront her anxiety, getting cast as ensemble sends Ashlyn into an identity crisis, Ej having to direct the show puts a rift between him and Gina. rehearsals and the doc puts characters in situations that move their story forward. in the end they all came together to say forget the doc because putting on the best show was more important to them

in s4 all of the characters are in separate plots with nothing holding them together. Rina are in a generic Romeo + Juliet/star is born story, Kourtney has the mandatory college storyline, and Ashlyn and Carlos get B plot relationship drama. all of the stories feel disconnected because none of them really relate to each other. there was literally no narrative reason for any characters to be extras in the films, they were just props in the back (even Ricky, because he was only there to react to filming in jealously or awe). the only character that talks about the musical is Ricky (and Gina), and we only saw one rehearsal

and like… all of that is fine, but they found their magnum opus in s3. the pacing was better and the dramatic irony had great pay-offs, the themes, the balancing of storylines and characters was infinitely better (it’s shocking how downgraded Ashlyn was in s4) and it had a shorter runtime. this season wasn’t about high school kids putting on a musical. with the exception of Kourtney and miss Jen this seasons not really about high school. a part that of me really missed watching a group of kids grow together through the school year while they put on a musical (especially if their ‘senior’ year😭)

HSMTMTS has ended which means that we won't get any other song from the cast. Some HSM songs weren't sung, so here's a list of who should have done it:

- Bop To The Top: I remember a version with Nini and Kourtney that wasn't in the show but on the season 1 soundtrack, so I wouldn't change that.

- What I've Been Looking For: In HSM, there are two versions, by Ryan and Sharpay and by Troy and Gabriella. We got EJ and Nini doing a (not very good) version of the Troyella's one to fit the storyline of the characters, but there was never a Sharpay and Ryan's version. I would have loved a version with Seb as Sharpay, and because Ryan in the show didn't sing, I would have put Carlos just to have a Seblos duet.

- Work This Out: This song concept is Troy's friends complaining about their lousy jobs that they thought would be great, and Troy convince them that they're not that bad. The kids in HSMTMTS didn't work, BUT I think it could work in season 3, with the Frozen musical storyline. Everyone is complaining to EJ because of the TV, they all thought it would be amazing to be on a documentary in Disney+, but they realize that Channing and Corbin are doing too much, and they take on their frustration on EJ because he's the director of the musical. EJ will takes on Troy's part and convince them that it's great to do Frozen and all they have to do is let him talk to Corbin.

- I Don't Dance: It's not easy to find who could be Ryan and who can be Chad in this song. So I was thinking of Ashlyn trying to convince Maddox to have a part in the musical because Maddox is more confident in the backstage. I could take place in an eventual season 5, where Miss Jen announced a new musical and Ashlyn wants to see her girlfriend having a role, even of it's small because the world deserves to know her voice.

- Gotta Go My Own Way: This time it's simple: it's Nini's goodbye song. I wasn't very happy that she left without a word, and I think it would have been great if she left singing a song that is about goodbyes. The Troy in song could have been Kourtney, wondering what she would do without her best friend.

- All For One: A song for the entire cast, that they could have sing it at Shallow Lake, maybe before the musical. An acoustic version like 'Everyday' where they could have sing the chorus before going on stage.

- HUMUHUMUNUKUNUKUAPUA’A: It's a trick song because it wasn't included in the movie itself, it was a delete song that they also included in Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure. The song is very particular and I don't know in what context it could have been sung... Maybe at the beginning of the season 3, for Lily's TikTok and she would have wanted Ricky to do Ryan's part? I could have been funny and be another reason for their breakup.

Now there's only HSM3 and if the songs weren't all shown, they were on the soundtrack. We got a reprise of Right Here Right Now so it would be logical that Ricky and Gina sang it at the beginning of the musical. Just Wanna Be With You in the soundtrack is performed by Ashlyn and Carlos, then Ricky and Gina. The Boys Are Back wasn't shown either but is the soundtrack, and it's Ricky and Jet who are singing it. We also have Last Chance in the soundtrack, sang by Ashlyn and Carlos. The song Last Chance is featured on the HSM3 soundtrack on a track named Senior Spring Musical, so any other song from that track would have been sung by Ashlyn and Carlos as it's Kelsi and Ryan, and Kourtney and Dani for Sharpay's and Tiara's song.

OKAY SO it may be almost two hours past midnight for me and it may be season 4 in 2 minutes BUT I am going to make this post lol. So, it's time for HSMTMTS Appreciation Week Day Four: Favorite Episode/Season!

Honestly I don't think I have one of either xD

I love all the episodes, and most of the time when someone asks me for my favorite of something (like books or movies) I just go with the one that has the most rewatch/reread quality/potential. So, some of these episodes may just be the ones I watch the most lol.

Each season has their pros and cons for me, but I will say I think I enjoy season 2 more than most people! The ending isn't amazing, sure, but it has some really great music, ship moments, acting, and Wildcat family moments :).

Season 1, they're not all family for a little while, and we don't have as much development on some of the others, nor most of the ships. But it's also fun that it's the most grounded season lol, and it just has a special charm. Also, it really focuses on the musical lol!

And season 3, obviously I miss Seb, Big Red, Mr. Mazzara, and half Nini and Ms. Jen from it :). And sometimes the drama is a lot, but at the same time, there's so many cute and fun moments, it is absolutely HILARIOUS, and the change of setting is super cool :). Since I'm a multi shipper, it's also a con for Portwell and a pro for Rina lol xD.

Anyway! Now, a few of my favorite episodes :).

Season 2 Episode 5: is this one a surprise even xD. I love Seblos, I love the Wildcats, and I love great music! What more could you ask for? Also, it's just so sweet that they'd throw a big party for one of their friends like that :'). And it's especially cool seeing Carlos be appreciated <3. Plus, it gave us "I never learned how to lie", so you know xDD.

Season 2 Episode 10: LISTEN. Again, is it partly because of Seblos lol? . . Sh xD. But seriously, it's great Seblos drama, the music is once again amazing, and I LOVE the sleepovers :D!! The recipe for my favorite episodes is really just Seblos, Music, Wildcats xD. Lol. But seriously, it's such a good episode <3.

Season 1 Episode 6: Maybe it's just because it hits home, which is weird because that makes it bittersweet, but I love this episode. It's really focused more on them being a family than any of the ships (which is interesting and a nice change of pace :) ) and it has some great music! Plus, the photoshoot lol. And of course, a few Seblos moments, and some lovely Carlos angst xD. Justice for the Seblos deleted scenes 😤😔. Lol, but yeah, I love this episode <3.

Season 1 Episode 7: Again, my Wildcats xD. I was hesitating to put this on here because the end hurts me so much, but it's just too good :). We have Carlos inviting everyone to someone else's house (for the first time, I think, lol), Ricky and Nini being chill for a bit, Gina being adorable, and the start of Redlyn 👀. Lol, remember when one of the half jokingly proposed ship names was Big Rashlyn xD? Bring it baaaack lol, we deserve it. In a good way, not as punishment xD. Anyway! The real star of the show this episode, though, is of course the party :). We love the Wildcats being family, and I seriously love them all so much <3. And again, Seblos moment lol. The music is good this episode (I adore Out of The Old), but there's not too much of it lol, so I forgot to mention it and came back here after the next paragraph xD.

Season 3 Episode 7: LISTENNN. Once again, I can do anything I want xD. I think I said that earlier, or maybe in one of the other posts, but nonetheless lol. I say it a lot regarding things like this lol. Anyway! Obviously, SEBBB!!! HE RETURNS TO ME :'DDD!! But we also have Ricky's bucket list (ADORABLE) and everyone's ICONIC outfits :D. So sorry to Portwell though :( xd. That does hurt throughout the episode lol. Oh, and of course we have the iconic welcoming of Ashlyn to the community :'). And Wouldn't Change a Thing!!! Such a slay :D. Honestly though, I love the ending, like, after the dance. I don't know if I love it more than the prom itself, but seeing the guys come together and support each other, and the same for the girls, with a BOPPING song in the background? Amazing :'D. And, of course lol, Seblos moments <3. And the second Seblos kiss!! I love them so much :). And, like I said, amazing music!!

Season 3 Episode 5: This one is just so hilarious xD. I had to include it lol. Plus, :O drama a bleeped out curse on HSMTMTS!! We don't get many so that's a slay for being unique xD. Also yes, Carlos totally deserves it 😌😤. Like, to get one lol. Just like Natalie, lol. Anyway!! Yeah, this is so funny xD. It also has great music!! The drama hurts, of course, but we love the little moments of supporting each other xd. And again, I just have to mention how FUNNY it is, those moments xD. Plus, the fact that it's all (well, yk. Mostly xD) a plot is amazing lol. I just love this episode lol.

So yeah!! I think that'll do it for today :). I probably won't be on Season 4 for a bit tomorrow, as in it'll take me a little while lol. I still need to finish my rewatch xD. But, I will watch it!!! And I'm so excited :)) 🥰.

Gina sighed as she walked in the large theater when a familiar face met her at the door. “Gina?”

“Carlos? What are you doing here?”

“I’m choreographing this show. You?”

“I’m here for a chemistry read!”

“You’re the Giana they were talking about? I shouldn’t be telling you this but they’re really looking forward to it. Let me show you around.”

Carlos let an assistant director know Gina was there and showed her around backstage. As they walked by the lighting booth he asked, “So how have you been? I saw on Insta you and EJ got hitched!”

“Yeah, and we have a kid now. He’s in Kindergarten.”

“Is he going into the family business?”

“He loves to dance just like his mama.” Gina smiled widely. Gina loved that her son was a dancer just like her. “He’s been taking lessons since he could walk.”

“That’s awesome. Do you guys live nearby?”

“No, we moved out to LA right before Benji was born. Finally got EJ away from the Caswells.” 

“Is he still acting?”

“No, he’s working at his dad’s company. He manages their LA branch. He’s doing well and he’s so great with Benji.”

“Seb has been talking about kids but I’m still not sure.”

“Well, if you’re ever in California, I’m always looking for a sitter.”

“Hopefully, the family will move with you to New York and we can take you out to dinner.”

“Oh I couldn’t do that to them.”

“How will you do the show then?”

Gina laughed awkwardly “Well, let’s not count our chickens before they hatch.”

Gina pressed her phone to her ear as her cab driver took off towards her hotel. “Hey, Eej.”

“Hey! How was the callback?”

“It was great! The theater was beautiful-you would have loved it. Guess who’s choreographing the show?”

“Please don’t say Ms. Jen.”

“No!” Gina laughed loudly. “Carlos! We talked for a while. He and Seb are still going strong up here.”

“Small world!” EJ’s voice cut out slightly. “Hold on, I’m pulling into the pickup line…Benji!” EJ’s loud voice filled Gina’s ears. She heard a door open and close. “B, Mama’s on the phone.”

“Mama! Did you get it?”

“I don’t know yet, Bud.”

“But you did your best, right?”

“Yep, that’s all I can do. How was school?”

“Great! Emily invited me to her birthday party!”

“That’s great! I’ll text Kourtney when I get to my hotel and ask for details.”

“Mama, I’m gonna do a report on a planet-“

“Oh my gosh. I’m getting another call. It’s my agent. I’ll call you back, okay? Love you guys!”

“Love yo-“ The phone cut out before EJ could finish his sentence. EJ looked at Benji through the rear view mirror. “Pretty exciting for Mama, huh?”

“Yeah,” Benji sighed.

“What was the report you were talking about?”

“It’s nothing.” Benji sighed and looked out the window.

“Sarah! Hi!”

“Gina! I hope I’m not interrupting anything?”

“Not at all.”

“Well, I have some good news. They’re offering you the role of Cinderella in Into the Woods! They were so impressed with your audition and it didn’t hurt that your friend was the choreographer. Congratulations!”

“Oh my gosh! Thank you so much! Obviously, I need to call my husband and-“

“Oh, I bet, dear. Rehearsals start in a month so hopefully that will give you enough time to relocate.”

“Relocate…”

“We can negotiate a shorter run but typically those making their debuts prefer a longer run. At least a year.”

“Right. Well, thank you, Sarah. I need to discuss logistics with EJ-“

“How is Elton? And Benny?”

“Benji is great. They both are. Thank you, Sarah.”

“One more thing. Looks like this show will be more of a reunion. I just heard Elton’s cousin, Ashley-“

“Ashlyn? Is she involved?”

“She was also cast! Congratulations to both of you!”

Gina raced to Ashlyn’s apartment as soon as she managed to get off the phone with Sarah-which didn’t prove to be an easy task. Ashlyn opened the door with a startled look. “Gina?”

“Ash! I just got off the phone with my agent. When were you going to tell me you also auditioned for Into the Woods?”

“Come in come in!” Ashlyn hugged Gina. “Wait, I didn’t even  know you were here! New York is my turf!”

“Yeah, the second I got back from my reading, my agent called. She set this all up but I didn’t think it would actually happen! And Carlos choreographing? It’s like an East High reunion!” 

Ashlyn led Gina to the kitchen. As Gina spoke excitedly about her audition, Ashlyn grabbed two wine glasses from the cabinet. She quickly poured two glasses and handed one to Gina. 

“I’m sure EJ is excited to see everyone again! I’m sure glad I’ll actually get to see Benji!””

“Yeah, you’re the only one who knows right now. I need to call him but…”

“But?”

“I don’t know. He already moved to LA for me. I don’t know if he’ll be able to leave.”

“I’m sure he and Uncle Cash will work something out. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, G! You can’t just walk away.”

“I know. I just…I need to call him…I’m happy, Ash. Really. Just nervous about how it’s all going to work.”

“Well, our guest room is always available if that’s helpful.” Ashlyn put her hand on Gina’s shoulder gently. “Go call him and then we’ll have a movie night. I’ll tell Red to bring some food home when he closes.”

“You’re the best. You know that, right?”

THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO END THE SHOW. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SEASON.

It's not only because we have rina, madlyn, jetney, seblos, miss jen x mr. mazzara, the possibility of ej x val and even big red x antoine as a final couple (i mean i love it hsdkhd but it so much more than this). But because we could learn so much about all of the characters.

We learn that ricky's attachment issue is his problem from the start and I'm so glad that he learn to embrace it, start to opening up about his feelings and to grow up more as a person. We could see that gina's mom absent is affecting her life, that she's more vurnerable than what it appear to be and she's finally got the spotlight that she deserve since the very start.

We could learn that carlos is not as confident as he appear to be and struggle with the bullying before join the drama club. We could see that kourtney is a perfectionist and sometimes it makes her life harder and I love how she learn to eased up a little. We could see ej slowly growth as an young adult, how he finally could stand up to his dad and also love how he's the one who make a big speech to ricky and how he and gina forgave each other.

We could learn so much about miss jenn's past and why she's so determinated to be a teacher. And about ashlyn and her sexuality awakening and maddox + jet's being each other bestfriend without they admit it.

We also could learn more about seb's coming out story, big red's sexuality awakening, mr. mazzara's past and even mack and dani's side story about being a famous person.

I can't believe I said this but I'm so sad that the journey is ended and I'm really sad to saying goodbye to all of the characters. This season is a truly gem and tim federle is a legend for this.
