AU where when Morgan goes to the police to report Roman’s disappearance and Karadec is the cop she talks to. He knows it's a typical open and shut case - clearly this guy was overwhelmed by being a new father and ran. But Morgan Gillory is so terrified, and Karadec can't bring himself to send her away. He can't do much, but he decides to run Roman's license plates. And that's when he realizes the case might not be so open and shut.

The next several years, Karadec quietly works on Roman's case. The investigation is techncially closed, and his research goes at a snail's pace bc he doesn't have any free time, but he's still trying.

Initially he stops by to give Morgan updates, no matter how small, bc he can tell they give her hope. And then somehow, he's not sure how it happens, they become friends. He babysits Ava, Morgan bakes him a cake when he passes his detective’s exam, they somehow start celebrating holidays together.

Bonus: Bc Karadec and Morgan are human disasters that take forever to realize they are in love with each other, Morgan still ends up dating Ludo and giving birth to Elliot and Chloe (although there’s a shorter time span between Elliot and Chloe’s births). Karadec is dying of jealousy and ready to hate Ludo when he first meets him…only for the guy to actually be super nice and earnestly tell him that he’s glad to meet Karadec (bc anyone that’s important to Morgan and Ava is important to him). So now in addition to pining and being jealous, Karadec feels guilty for being jealous.

Bonus 2: As he gets deeper he gets into the case, Karadec brings in his co-worker and sometimes partner Selena Soto to help bounce ideas off of. Soto and Morgan hit it off and become close friends too.

Katniss realizes she'll have to marry Peeta and she's obviously upset so Haymitch tries to comfort her by saying "you could do a lot worse" and Katniss is like "well DUH of course I could do worse than Peeta he's the best & handsomest person on the face of the planet but that's not the POINT I want to be able to choose for MYSELF". Then she goes and chooses Peeta anyway lol. Comedy gold I tell you
